For your average PvE content (what we have now before HoT), Berzerker (Power-precision [aka crit chance]-ferocity [aka crit dmg]) is the “best” for power and Sinister (Condi dmg-power-precision) for condi (hard to get as new player, I would recommend Carrion/Rabid if Sinister not available).
Basically the average PvE content can be done by full-glass builds if you can use dodges/defensive mechanics good (which you will by the time you will gear yourself up) and just use whatever gear you get from mobs until lv80 (I’m too lazy to buy gear while leveling).
You can get a few defensive trinkets/armorpiece if you want, a bit more Vitality/Toughness, but most of the “hard” pve content is 1-hit kills and the simple kill faster than be killed works for every other attack. (You’ll see that most dungeons are run by stacking in a corner and “mindlessly” dps-ing down the boss/mobs.)
Ahoy!
Most ppl are discussing lv80 builds ‘cos:
1) It’s “easy and fast” to level up to 80
2) Mesmer is Trait-heavy, a lot of builds are using the same 2/3 utilities while are “different” (even condi/power is running same utils [Blink/Decoy anyone?
])
so discussing/theorycrafting sub80 builds is.. not worth for most ppl.
Now about PvE:
Weapons:
Open-world – You’ll need AoE damage which is mostly from Shatter (F1) and GS #4 iZerker and Staff is nice for the clone generation/defensive/kite abilities when/if you need it, or you can run sword+focus with more swiftness and another AoE iWarden.
But GW2 open-world is easy so you can run what you want, experiment and still do everything, maybe slower than a meta-build, but if you don’t want to rush things you have time anyway.
Dungeon – You’ll need “sustained” (not just a shatter burst) dps, mostly from phantasms, some dungeon-path need Reflects. Sword+Pistol/Sword+Focus should do it (you don’t have to get 2 swords, just equip only-offhand and it’ll use the other set’s mainhand) but Metabattle is always there to get some idea.
Traits:
You can unlock everything if not earlier, when you are lv80 so you can just take what seems interesting, if you have Dueling already then maybe Domination as next is good, but I think just take what you want to try out faster.
For PvE-builds, MetaBattle should have the “most optimal DPS” build, so either run that or have fun with your own, in Open-world none cares and if you play with friends, it doesn’t matter even in dungeons.
Us ol’ timers call that the 6/6/6/6/6 build.
With the old trait system gone and a sixth specialization getting added, I guess we can start calling it the ‘6 spec’.
Nah, ol’ timers call that the 30/30/30/30/30 build :P
What if you make it so that the elite specs can be bought only with HoT-area Hero Points?
Then it’s the same for pve! :P
I’m an EU player, but:
Eredon Terrace is the last server on NA (source ), so you can’t really expect them to have big population, as the PPT-ranking is mostly coverage-based.
If you want to have more ppl in wvw, you “have to” transfer to a “higher” server with your friends, but if you don’t have a lot of geared-up characters, you can do it for free by deleting all your existing chars and then switching home-server.
Most servers have a server-website and/or “server-TS/Mumble/Whatever” you can check for activity, be it recruiting guilds or commanders playing right now on X map.
On higher servers you can see 60v60 or even bigger fights if that’s what you want, you can find guilds who likes to fight 15v15/20v20 or similar “gvg” numbers, guilds who likes to “roam’n’ninja” with less-than-10, WvW is not dead yet, just going towards extinction.
Just checked my characters, and I’m happy that I did not buy HoT.. If I really had to play that much PvE to unlock the elite-spec/traits/skills for it, then I rather not have them..
I feel like Heal Resonator or Cleansing Snyergy has issues with SkillQ. When I Queue up Toss Elixir while using Elixir H, it will not Toss it, I have to use it again but without Inventions traitline it works just fine.
Don’t know which one has the issue, maybe C.S. as “After using a heal skill creates a Cleansing Pulse.” and these “creates an effect” things are breaking SkillQ a lot.
So our Friday reset will be back around the same time as the “Old Borderlands”… Sometime in the future… Months, years, the usual stuff…
Oh well, I just have to search for other games to play before Saturday Evening as I’m one of those non-existent WvW-only players…
Reset on Saturday morning? I am sorry, but who the heck thought this to be a good idea?
If it was evening I could at least partly unerstand, but mornings almost no one I know is even playing since people are busy with something called real life.
Well originally it wasnt Saturday morning, it was Saturday evening, but this thread convinced them to move it to earlier…
Ppl asked to move it back to Friday evening.. they moved it to Saturday morning… well, yea, the “thread asked for it”…
I believe the unblockable part is only the direct-damage, making the condis popping “Blocked” as they are not applied.
If you want to move around the reset time, make it Friday Reset Time (now) minus 1-2-3h, not quaggan Saturday… QUAGGAN YOU ANET!
(Note: Quaggan > kitten )
Thanks Anet, I love this change!
I had some minor worries that I did not purchased HoT before this change, but now I’m happy that I gave that money to other game(s).
I played this before the “PU-nerf” update with moderate success in unranked.. not great, but was a fun experiment for me.
I got a lot of “burning enemies” during that time, so condi removal everywhere ~.~ Ill.Insp wrecking skillQ is annoying as hell, iWarlock’s projectile is sadly unreliable, but when hit, I loved those 5k+ crits, most ppl didn’t expect that ^^

But in the screenshot he posted, it’s LOWER. His account time is 32 hours and he’s played that one character for 33 hours. That doesn’t make any sense.
Ah, lol, I can’t read. That’s super weird; I’ll try asking around.
My f2p acc has/had the same issue:
Char played 2h38m, acc 2h31m
Later…
Char played 7h18m, acc 7h6m
Even the difference is changing!
This is a reply to both comments:
1) PvE gear costs money.
2) PvE gear takes more time to customize.
3) PvE stats are higher than PvP ones, certain amulet stat combos don’t exist there (marauder).
4) Confusion deals more damage in PvE, GH is PvE.
5) Why should a dedicated PvP guild EVER own a GH? You can’t que from outside HotM, and you can’t even properly use the arena. Just another place to afk in.
6) People with various gear tiers just make this worse.
While playing spvp, doing reward tracks, you get free armor and gold (a lot more than playing wvw as a scout/upgrader) you can just buy exotic trinkets and you still didn’t play any pve.
Certain Amulet combos are not in spvp while they are achievable in pve (Dire?), the other direction is interesting, you can mix gear to achieve if not the same, then similar numbers, so that shouldn’t be a big problem.
But you can’t get a GH without pve (players in your guild), as you have to get the GH while doing PvE, so dunno who thought that GHs are not PvE.
I theorycrafted another reason, but as long as they fix it I don’t really care that I was mistaken
Just made a noob vid: https://youtu.be/ChkGHOISMcQ
1.)Using Lock On while SR is ticking will make the Thief lost Stealth at next Tick.
2.)Using Lock On after SR will not make the Thief lose Stealth.
3.)Using Lock On while Thief is Blasting for Stealth will make him lose the Stealth at the next Blast. (Hard to see, but I believe it’s working this way.)I see it as they coded “Revealed” so you can’t ENTER stealth while you have the buff but it will not remove it.
I’m concerned that the scrapper stomp bot, traited, is a secure stomp versus our terrible downed state even if the downed state is traited.
That’s pathetic.
I see it as a targetable low-HP thingy, which just dies fast to our downed #1.. if lucky CoD proc, even faster… And not like engi with Stealth/Blind/Invul was an easy-to-rupt stomper before.
I’m tickled that, over time, many members of our community have adopted “kitten” as a cover-all word, instead of posting The Words That Should Never Be Written™.
The funny thing is when you say it in public: “I’m pretty kittened off about that!” and your friends give you the strangest looks.
I vote for a change!
Change “kitten” to “quaggan”! Everyone knows that quaggans are The Devil, capable of only evil acts!
And imagine saying “quaggan off!” instead of “kitten off!”, so much better!
Meanwhile, in-game I waste 4-7 min for queue to pop only to lose because it’s that time of the month for someone on the team and rage quits
I would say that time of the hour, but it’s maybe only during my matches..
You can try killing them if you want, but usually these people are much better than you and there are spectators from both enemy servers around that will kill you while your guys stand there watching.
That said, there are specific dueling spots (south camp mill, Obsidian Sanctum), that should be used for dueling.
Ahhh, the hate you can get when you’re backing away from an 1v1 when someone interrupts it and then dies is priceless.. better than enemy tears!
Nice necro!
I believe with the wvw-traits revamp with HoT will come a reset, but we’ll see.. At least we will get back our points which were spent on Guard Stacks as they’ll be removed..
ANet should make playing WvW content required to un-lock PvE content.
Like a PvE Player needs to defend WvW objectives in order to un-lock a PvE based mission.
That way it would be fair trade.
PvE players should bite the bullet & take one for their PvE team & play WvW too…in order to satisfy this un-lock of Guild & Personal PvE missions.
p.s.
Of course this won’t happen…there’s a double standard here.
Map completion for legendary..
WvW rank for legendary..
They got removed ‘cos whining from certain players..
Let’s whine about pve!
Meh, will not work..
I believe it’s this way for years and they just did not changed it.. ’Cos switching out skill points for shard is hardly a change to the vendor basic functionality..
What’s wrong with mes in wvw? Last time i was in wvw most groups ran in big blob spamming one. I am sure mes can do it just as good as any other class.
AoE AA? Where?? I’m searching for it for 3 years now, still couldn’t find that magical weapon which can give us 5 man AoE AA! Or any skill which can hit hard 5 man in 1.2k/900 range.. (Not counting the old confusion condi-bomb-“meta” with glamours, it was a trait + utils combo.)
What is wrong with pve? Oh noes, you are not absolute top in pve. Who cares? Just because you need 1 min longer for dungeon run doesn’t mean you will get kicked from groups all the time. I NEVER saw mesmer getting kicked from any “speed run” groups either, ever.
Nah, they are not kicking mesmer out as they can provide half-guardian.. Reflects with Quickness (worse uptime btw). There is only Portal which can make a team search for a mesmer, others maybe will not kick him out, but that’s only ’cos gw2 pve is braindead easy.. If raids will be “hard”, mesmer will have a harder time finding a spot.
Why would you want to stay in prolonged team fights on mesmer? It is not your job. Your role is roamer. Also, if you want to stay in team fights don’t run squishy build. You don’t see guards crying “Booohoo we can’t roam as good as thieves” because they fill different role and are good at it. Why should mesmers fill every role? If you actually want to stay and win big scale fights, i am sry but you are playing wrong class.
‘Cos mobility = roamer. Guards can play power/condi/support in teamfights, that’s 3 different role. And they can roam with moderate success with traveler runes, medi guards were quite good roamers in wvw during a certain period. Not the best, but good. Mesmer can ONLY roam, that’s all. No other role, if you’re not counting that 1-2 utility the zerg needs from you.. and then a 80 man zerg still only need 2-3 mesmers..
Mesmers have ZERO weapon skills to be effective in combats bigger than ~3v3. Even in gvg when they need mesmers, they are playing the usual shatter to counter enemy squishy eles/necros.. and then it’s again ~3v3 fight and not bigger..
Some are so spoiled really. Other classes struggle to stay in meta, fill any role and you want all of them if i understand you right?
Nope, we want to be effective in pve/large scale battles. We have ZERO damaging AoE weapon skill, and we don’t even bring unique utilities to boost damage. We don’t even have fire/water fields or blast finishers to fill some support-ish role, we have only skipping-tools aka Portal/Stealth.. and some reflects during the few encounters where they are useful.. Even rangers have more damage boost for the party and they have more AoE with Piercing Longbow.. that can hit harder compared to our “piercing” GS..
Didn’t you get the memo? Moa no longer prevents stomps or resses. And I do love a 6/6/6/6/6 build, haven’t seen that for a while really.
Oldtimers know that it’s the good ol’ 30/30/30/30/30 build
Where are they really useful outside of 1v1? Or to say, small-scale sPvP?
In wvw, they are roamers (1v1) or Veilbot/portalbot.. not useful.
In PvE.. are they in meta for other uses than portal-skipping/Reflect?
All of them are utilities.. not even one thing of our weapon skills are needed (well, if you have traited focus, then you can reflect.. but that’s meh)!Oh i am sry, last time i checked mesmers were really good in conquest and were picked for tourneys. Heck, last tourney i won we had a mesmer. Portal is really good for team nukes, decaps, caps, rezzes with vamp rune/ele mist form. Slow/haste on stomps/rezzes is huge as well. Constant ranged pressure and lockdown, especially running pain train together with thief. I love aoe invul from shatter from teammates, it saved me many times. Invul is also great for stomps. Boon/stab strip on shatter. Stealth for teammates. Moa for target spike, preventing stomps, lord kills, removing rampage/plague etc.
Naaaah guize, mesmers are totally useless outside of 1v1. And i totally run p/p and spent my time in hotjoins after playing this game for 2+ years and few thousands of ranked matches. /sarcasm
It seems I was not clear enough, sorry, my english is bad:
“Where are they really useful outside of 1v1? Or to say, small-scale sPvP?” means for me:
“Where are mesmers really useful outside of sPvP/Small-scake roaming?”
’Cos every class which has F1-2-3-4 are next to each other and the only reason 5 is above 1 and not next to it is that there is no space there?
no. mesmer’s f5 is on top of f4.
Typo, wanted to write 4 ~.~
’Cos every class which has F1-2-3-4 are next to each other and the only reason 5 is above 1 and not next to it is that there is no space there?
Dawdler, the problem is that so far you could get a guild up and running wvw buffs by only playing wvw.
Now if you need GH to claim, you can’t do that, which is painful for those who just want to play wvw and not pve. If it had require pve from the start, it would be less painful, but this way…
uhm.. I said herald, not revenant. I’m talking about the melee necro.
Melee necro is Reaper.
Because mesmers are absolutely useless outside of 1v1~ /sarcasm
Where are they really useful outside of 1v1? Or to say, small-scale sPvP?
In wvw, they are roamers (1v1) or Veilbot/portalbot.. not useful.
In PvE.. are they in meta for other uses than portal-skipping/Reflect?
All of them are utilities.. not even one thing of our weapon skills are needed (well, if you have traited focus, then you can reflect.. but that’s meh)!
high dmg? check
aoe dmg? check
high ranged dmg? check
blocks, invuls, team/own buffs? check
teleports? check
stealth? check
pets? check
multiple CCs? checkWhat, you don’t have enough yet? Why not just ask for iWin button?
/facepalm
He’s speaking about engis, don’t worry.
Afaik yes, you have to do a HoT pve content to get a GH.. You can invite your wvw buddies to help your scout-guild get one, but I fear the “crafting” of guild-upgrades will need pve-thingies..
This is really like complaining about Warrior with a Hammer having too much CC.
Now that you said it, they do have too many CC skills!
My non-reaper Necro can’t do anything else besides playing the ball role in a game of pingpong! Nerf necros and buff dd eles!
Although it would be funny if you could reveal someone by reflecting the attack of a stealthed opponent back at them
Nononono~
You don’t know how many damage I could do to a pd condi thief with a reflect when they were spamming 1 on me! It’s insane! And acts as a tracker for aoe skills… ^^
I can’t even imagein why the hell Anet removed skins completely.
Because there is a 10,000 post thread dedicated to the removal of hobo sacks
I’ll quote the OP of the 37 page Hobosack thread for you…
“Simplest and most efficient fix: Give us a toggle to hide or show hobo-sacks when we have a kit equipped. It’s probably an easy update, it is optional (so those who want to keep the hobo look can), and it will probably help sales for the new quaggan and charr backpacks.”
Pleasing everyone with the Option would’ve been a solution that everyone would’ve been happy with. Really not sure why they didn’t go that route.
You cannot simply “make a toggle” for utility skills visuals. When fighting an opponent, it is important that you have a consistent visual cue, so you know what is coming and how to counter it.
I am against completely ruining the ability to counter skills in a game. with multiple competitive game modes. over adding something that was overwhelmingly unpopular, as an option.
TBH as long as they have the new kit-weapon skin, it does not really matter if the backpiece is changing or not.. and dunno, most of the time I know which kit they are using only after the first skill, as seeing an asura’s hand with gw2’s visual combat AoE explosions spamfest…
I will present the idea if it was as big a group as you think, good business practice would lead anet to devout the resources. Resources are a finite number and will be devoted to the largest group of players (or that spend $$)….
See, that’s where players get kittened off. Because there was a large group of players who were around. The GvG players are like 5% of what they were these days. They got OS and now finally guild halls. Three years for guild halls, something that not only GvG players were asking for.
The general pop is also a fraction of what it was as well…. Let’s face it, wvw is a minority compared to pve – that is why so much attention is spent there. Gvg players are some percentage of the wvw pop and I doubt it was ever 50% of that… We all know limited resources are thrown at modes that will cater to the majority.
I hope everyone gets what they want and need, but understand why some segments won’t get the love…. I personally thought instanced OS where you can iNvite guilds was the best answer, but I don’t know how much work that would be….
’Cos spvp was a sooo huge majority before reward tracks that they deserved the updates, yup nods
#Esportzzzz
The only difference between rank and unranked is skyhammer.
And kittenyard.. and spirit watch..
- The “Yakslapper” title will remain, but the requirement is being reduced to 2500 yaks.
IMO anybody can get 2500 in a few short months or faster. Heck, a player can easily kill 25 yaks a day (or more) and have this done in 100 days. A good roaming/havoc group kills 25 yaks in an evening. I can personally kill 10 or more an hour.
A great title like Yakslapper should be unique and special.
I have 2.5k dollies ESCORTED! Can I get a title for it? I mean it takes more time to escort a dolly than to kill it… I hope that list was only examples and not the full number tweaking changes..
(And true, I killed only 4.5k Dollies… SlacKing too much
)
A few points on anti-griefing measures for guild claiming:
- Guilds without Guild Halls will not be able to claim objectives.
AHAHHAAHAHAHAAH
Why don’t you just say “If you don’t buy HoT we’ll remove most if not all of your advantages making Gw2 WvW semi-P2W”
kittening disgusting
d i s g u s t i n g
“If you don’t buy HoT and play enough PvE to get a guildhall”.. yea.. ’Cos afaik you can get a GH only by playing pve…
Make MI a Glamour skill and TW a Manipulation, giving Mirror in AoE every pulse! xD
Okay, maybe just at the beginning.. ^^
Resistance and Superspeed would be really nice on MI, don’t ya think?
They “fixed” that way some months ago, now you have to have a weapon (not underwater) with the stacking sigil or you will lose the stacks.
But if you don’t have the same sigil in the underwater weapon, getting your feet wet will make you lose your stacks.. sigh.. Try to not lost your stacks while going into bay lordroom!
You really think either of those builds could kill the other before reset?
When people reset on me in fair 1vs1 I count those as wins.
I understood his “reset” as wvw reset on every Friday…^^
Average pve is so easy that full berzerker works. But anything works, everything else is just slower.. and if you can do something faster, most of the players want to do it not slower ^^
They aren’t build to last even if you can cast them on yourself. Why? ‘Cos we’re shattering left and right in spvp while we’re bringing only dps phantasms in pve (maybe shield could be an alternative, but that’s still only theorycraft). In zergs they would die in 2 seconds anyway (not 1 ’cos you have traited invul on them!).
What’s your gain to Reveal an enemy who can just sit in stealth for the duration?
I would assume to counter traits that benefit from being in stealth by limiting how much they can have at a time. But Idk why the cd is so long if classes can access stealth more readily than you can counter it, and any long duration stealths are unaffected.
Let’s see spvp:
Revealed duration when you broke your stealth by attacking: 4 second
Revealed duration from Lock On trait: 6 seconds
Usual Stealth duration from simple Leap finisher: 3 seconds (if traited 4 seconds, but on average we can count it as 3, they’ll not always wait for the last moment to backstab)
That means if you can hit the thief 1 sec after he stealthed, you’ll deny his second stealth for 6 seconds, from which he is in stealth for 2 seconds.
If you have no Lock On, it’s ~3 second stealth and 4 seconds revealed from attacking.
If you have Lock On, it’s ~3 second stealth and 4 seconds revealed from trait after he left stealth.
So if Revealed is not stacking (don’t think so), then you have the same result with or without Lock On.
The only situation when you’re better off with Lock On if you can hit an enemy while he’s stacking stealth.. which is in sPvP most of the time SR.. But then you could just high-AoE the SR and almost the same result, a dead-thief.
Against mesmers.. they’re not spamming stealth so much as thieves, your gain is less. It’s close to useless against other Engis, Toss Elixir S is not spammable.. ^^
Sword 5 actually do quite a nice amount of damage. The block is slightly lackluster but it’s ok.
No, it’s no ok. It’s not so bad to not use, but it’s not ok. That’s not a block-skill, but a trigger-a-sligh-teleport-on-hit channel.. The dmg is negated by blind/dodge/aegis/out-of-range.. You can eat more dmg ‘cos the block is ~rooting you there for 1 second while you could have move out of the damage.. Yes, when somehow you hit the enemy for 5k it’s nice, but then you could say the the engi off-hand pistol skill Blowtorch is nice even if it misses 80%..
It’s not ok and need serious QoL improvements.
F.e. give it ~1 sec of Distortion after block or make it so that you can block the full ~2 second and then you have ~5 second to cast the dmg+clone skill.. Or something to make it a more defensive skill so we don’t have to rely on stealth!
(edited by Bubi.5237)
Would it be so hard to make another f2p restriction? When they try to drop a siege blueprint, they have the usual popup window saying you can’t do that with a f2p acc..
Okay, probably it’s more work than they want to spend on wvw.. I mean it’s more work than no work…
Yeah my thought exactly. I use Power Block for its Halting Strike damage (in conjunction with some sort of burst usualy, such as a phantasm unload), and the Power Block CD on the rupted skill is more the bonus.
Oooopss, forgot to say that I’m using Halting Strike renamed to PB and not PB… ^^ Although the Weakness should be nice, to rupt a thief is too random for me
