A sample of the gear I proposed.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQFABSAAgYA-TRxTwAw0BwU9HHK/CqEEw+DAA-e

Gear puts you at 21% crit, Decimate Defenses puts you at 71%, Fury puts you at 91%, Food(don’t remember which off the top of my head)/utilities/spotter/banner can cover the rest. No Death Perception needed, still get to rock dhuumfire. Could even take scholar instead of Wurm, I just really like lots of ferocity.

Zerk isn’t really any better than Valk’s offensively for reaper, though, and Valk gives a ton of defensive stats without actually sacrificing any offense due to decimate defenses. Valk armor/weapon with Zerk/valk trinkets and Wurm runes seems to be best.

How much less DPS do minions actually bring compared to, say, Well of Suffering, over a long fight? The well deals high damage for 6 seconds every 35 seconds, while minions keep doing damage with no cooldown. And the guaranteed projectile finishers from bone fiend and flesh wurm might actually be useful now, for a few extra burn stacks.

And I assume this change would make Blood Fiend easily our highest dps healing skill, when the heal isn’t needed, putting it above SoV.

Because people don’t know what raiding is. They think raid as dungeon or fractal.

No, people just don’t equate raiding with endless hours of chest farming in silverwastes. Nor should they.

ANet said there would be some settling time after a patch before they start a league. HoT release will have a patch, so at least 2 weeks before they start up. Maybe more depending on how bad it is.

Whatever it is, I’d like to see it be something we have little to none of right now, such as burn or aegis.

You’re about as likely to see us get stealth as either of those suggestions. Which is to say it won’t happen.

Anet gave rangers a healing elite spec, guardians a bow elite spec, necros a reflect on their poison cloud skill and added a foreign skill type to over half of the classes (Wells, Glyphs, Shouts etc.). At this point, I’d say anything is a possible implementation. Look at Dhuumfire lol. Who would have thought our class would someday be able to apply and sustain burn.

We got a reflect?

Captain Unusual.9163

Necromancers are the only profession with self inflicted conditions, a trait for more self inflected conditions and multiple weapons, utilities and traits to transfer those conditions, so yeah, it is a profession mechanic. It’s designed to work that way.

They weren’t the only ones with revenant, but ANET scrapped it saying it’s a bad design but left it on necros GG

That is not why they scrapped it on Revenant. They removed it from Revenants because their mallyx utilities were stronger when they had a set number of conditions on them, and being near allies would end up removing those, so they were actively punished for playing with supportive allies. Necromancers don’t lose anything when our conditions get cleansed, except maybe a stronger heal. Our goal is still to get the condis off ourselves, we just do it differently from other classes. Revenants did not want to get the conditions off themselves.

I mean it basically comes down to whether or not the extra crit damage is better than the loss in power since both build should be in 100% crit due to fury.

Too lazy to do the math but gut reaction is that power is stronger, not sure how much though.

Napkin maths shows zerk build will do more damage if you do nothing but spam LB. As soon as you cant use shroud and must sue dagger auto for dps zerk wins.

I got the same results, but I am still going with valkyrie and wurm because the difference is relatively minor and being able to camp RS when needed makes up for the loss IMO. YMMV, but either way you will hit hard enough that any trash will melt.

How quickly we begin to assume that every necromancer becomes a Reaper.

For a Reaper, yeah, Valk with Wurm runes is better. But for a base necromancer, zerker will do more damage, because it doesn’t have decimate defenses.

Yup, you and Sigmoid was right, I was referring to Necro.

But it is interesting that it’s pointed out how this build is both more tanky and damaging for Reaper. I also think I could make valk / wurm work for regular Necro in WvW zergs, since most of Necro usefulness in zergs comes from dropping wells > going into DS for that 100% crit. Risky relying on DS while roaming though.

Though, interestingly enough, the build/playstyle you just described is absolute crap for Reapers.

What reaper NEEDS (post BWE3)

in Necromancer

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Disclaimer: plz be constructive otherwise ignore me pz and ty.

Reaper still needs things and the mentality i’m using here is “incentivise me to use it” in terms of skills and traits, so when it comes out and if it is OP (or not) they can nerf it there and then. Otherwise things may never be played no matter how much they buff it.

So ill start with what it needs (for me to use it) in terms of under powered traits IMO.

Augury of death-
-Add a LF% gain on enemy hit, increase siphoning for each hit, or transfer a condi on hit (for allies as well). otherwise the other adepts far surpass this one.

Soul eater-
-Siphon life on all attacks not just Gravedigger and give it a increase GS attack speed like Shiro’s rapid laceration’s. Instead of Siphoning you could go LF gen but I doubt that would happen.

Deathly chill-
-Only thing I can think of is to make chill stack intensity but that could ruin chill in some ways. otherwise increase damage of chill plz.

Now time for skills

“your soul is mine”-
-make this skill generate 20% LF on each hit otherwise it will never see play ever. even if each hit did generate 20% LF I will probably us consume conditions. this would give it a chance of being used.

“Nothing can save you”-
– how much does this actually do? I can’t see myself run this over other skills because it doesn’t do much at all. Either add an immobilize to this or fear because it is weak right now. also make it corrupt more than 2 condis (maybe 3-4).

“Suffer”-
– This was the most useful shout IMO because it chilled and condi cleansed. It just helped. I do think it could apply more conditions though like bleed or torment. Plz make this a stun break.

“you are all weaklings”-
– This was okay. It could have longer lasting might still. otherwise fine.

“Rise”-
– Just make the minions last longer or decrease the CD. In a minion master build it’ll get used but aside from that it won’t see much action.

“Chilled to the bone”-
– how is this better than lich or plague? I don’t see it. maybe if it was instant activation but right now I wont use it over lich.

Shouts in general need to be instant activation and Reaper shouts need 1,000 damage each. It’s a flavor/quality of life thing and I would use the shouts if they were like this.

Reaper shroud-
– It’s perfect do nothing to it in it’s current state. maybe an slight increase to auto attack otherwise it’s godly..

GS-
-As long as it is this slow it will never see competitive play. It needs to have a traited speed increase or a flat speed increase.

AA- this could be faster

GS#5- have this ground targeted and 900 range plz. it would fix alot.

If all these changes took place necro would be great and if they are OP they can nerf them later. This wold solve any problem’s I have with reaper atm. Again this is what I would like to see happen IMO so take it as you will. plz be constructive so that We can all enjoy the game and so the devs can figure out what to do.

Man. Okay. Wow. This is some pretty overdone stuff.

In PvE, if you’re running shouts, Augury is pretty nice. But, to be honest, none of the adepts are too exciting in PvE, so augury is pretty on par.

I don’t agree with this on Soul Eater. The GS is meant to be a heavy, slow weapon, with high risk and high reward, giving it haste would just require it to get nerfed into basically a 2 handed dagger.

Agree that Deathly Chill needs a bit of help.

YSIM: I suspect that you’re fairly new to necromancer, or you’d recognize why 20% LF per hit on a 5 target skill would be the most powerful skill in the game by a huge margin. 100% life force every 13 seconds is not balanced. The only possible reason you could think the equivalent of a 15k-20k heal every 13 seconds is reasonable is that you don’t really know how to use DS well.

NCSY: It’s good at what it does, which is be a pvp-focused boon strip/damage setup skill. I’ll admit I haven’t used it for more than a couple matches, but it feels perfectly viable for what it’s designed to do. It already strips 10 boons and applies 10 vuln to each target, and the unblockable attacks tend to really catch people by surprise when they’re expecting to be safe for a few seconds. No one dodges Gravedigger when they’re blocking.

Suffer: Actually agree that this would be a good stunbreaker, and I like this one more than most people here seem to. Nothing I’d really change about it, maybe slightly higher chill duration.

YAAW: y=Yeah, this one’s good too.

Rise: I’ll be honest, I really don’t care how good this skill is, it’s just so kitten fun to run around with a dozen undead horrors.

CttB: How is it better than Lich or Plague? How is it worse? How is it even comparable? They have no similarities whatsoever. Comparing it with our elite transformations is like comparing Dagger 2 and Scepter 2, they have nothing in common aside from their location on your skill bar.

I don’t think you know what flavor or quality of life mean. Flat damage buffs are not quality of life or flavor changes. And, aside from the heal and elite, they are all instant cast.

Agree with RS comments.

Disagree about GS. It being slow is the whole point. I’d prefer if the weapon remained as slow as it is, but got additional damage, to keep it as a high-risk, high-reward weapon. If you want something quick and reliable, use dagger. Don’t try to remake Greatsword into something it was never meant to be.

As for GS5, I agree about the ground targeting, and would like more range, but Robert Gee commented a while back that it can’t get more range, because the skill is way more complicated under the hood than it seems like it should be. Changing the range would basically require them to rebuild it. I’ll settle for it being more reliable.

Could we get a dev to shed a little light on their design processes and decisions? Why some professions recieved many more skills than others, why two professions recieved changed profession mechanics and others just got additional buttons. We had initially suspected this was due to the number of new weapons skills gained, but that was not the case. Some elite specializations work specifically to fill a role that a profession was very weak at, and others are kind of just neat things for them to do that don’t really provide a new capability.

This isn’t a crying thread or a place to whine about how everyone else’s new spec is better, if you’re looking for that thread, just go into your profession forum. I’m just interested to hear a bit about the design process and goals that went into elite specs as a whole.

BWE 3 Reaper Specialization Feedback Thread

Captain Unusual.9163

Of all of the specializations the Reaper is still the one I enjoy playing the most.

All in all it is well done. The theme is there, the skills are there. The play style works, and contrary to other people I can’t report any decline of my damage output. Full zerker still does around 11k with ca. 10 might stacks and around 17k with 25 might stacks on the ususal mobs in pve (15k on most mobs in HoT maps).

The thing that should really be improved is the auto attack on the greatsword. Even for the slow-hitting Reaper it’s too slow. Maybe scrap the second attack in the auto attack chain, maybe make the chill more noticeable or last longer … just something for it to feel more smooth. At the moment it isn’t worth using, sadly.

Personally I don’t mind the shouts. The only one I’m actively using is “You are all weaklings!”. The others are ok, I guess. One of the shouts gave stability in the first beta weekend (don’t remember which), and that was really nice to have on a Necromancer, as the class is still badly lacking stability. Why not make one normal shout give stability again? Especially “Suffer” isn’t that appealing to me at the moment.

YaaW used to give one stack of stability for one second, because it had a one second cast time. Making it instant is strictly better.

BWE 3 Reaper Specialization Feedback Thread

From a pve point of view.
Really nice work since the last BWE. Reaper feels a lot smoother compared to the first BWE.

DS 1 feels good, but i think the dps is still abit too low
DS 2 feels perfect now
DS 3 good
DS 4 good
DS 5 feels a bit weak compared to Gravedigger. Even at under 25% health gravedigger deals more damage. Please adjust the health tresholds and the damage it does.

GS 1 feels good
GS 2 feels good, but 2 things.

1. it feels horribel boring vs foes with high hp pool under 50%. The cd reduction should trigger only one time in a row!
2. pls rework the animation for charr, it looks rly strange.

GS 3 feels lacking. Would need more DPS, has gotten much worse since the change of souleater. I will never use this skill in any dungeon/fractal or raidgroup. Do u really want this?
GS 4 is perfect, i love this skill now.
GS 5 its not reliable at all. Seems buggy at times, doenst pull the full distance sometimes.

Fix GS 2 and 3 and the weapon is close to perfect. But from a pve point of view, classes with two weaponsets are more interessting. I´d like to see a dagger/GS rotation, similar to guardians GS/S oder GS/M.

GS23411123>switch to dagger, just for example!

Shouts It feels awkward that some shouts have casttimes.

“Suffer” is ok but the cd looks abit too long for its use. I will use it sometimes.

“Nothing can save u” feels like a pure pvp skill, vulnerability is not rly needed in pve (groups). I´d like to see a simple aoe boon convert. The casttime is too long for its use.

“U are all weaklings and rise” I could not find a use for this skills in pve, sry

Elite: The cd feels way too long for pve, or the stun duration is too short. Even for trashmobgroups it feels abit lackluster. Can u just reduce it´s cd (and casttime) for pve?

Reapershroud and combo fields - please make leeching bolts work. The majority of our fields are darkfields, it feels so bad when you pop a GS4 for defense, then go RS and DPS just to see my blind leap does blind and my Death Spiral is wasting its whirl finisher.

Wells Wells are the best choice for utilities in pve in most situations. However, seeing the new mesmer wells makes me rather sad. Could we please rework / buff our wells a bit? Even fully traited they arent as damaging, or as supporting, or as fast recharging as the mesmer wells are baseline.

You honestly find spamming dagger auto attack to be more interesting that greatsword?

Same skills at lvl 40 - what's wrong here?

Your first 5 skills on your bar are based on the weapon you have equipped. Skills 6-10 you can train by spending hero points, and each class has around 24 or so to choose from for those slots. Finally, a lot of your customization comes from learning and equipping traits, which you get more access to as you level up more.

I do wish they were distinct though. Minions need a really distinct silhouette in order to be easily distinguished from one another, at this point it would be pretty difficult to tell these guys from the other two rat minions at a glance.

They’re noticeably oranger, though, so it’s not too hard to tell at a glance. And really, if a necro is using Rise, then chances are, there’s going to be a buttload of them, so it’s not like you’re ever going to really need to carefully pick a shambling horror out of a crowd.

It’s not bad, it’s just not exciting. Elite specs were meant to allow a profession to do something it couldn’t previously do, but there isn’t actually anything that elementalists couldn’t already do with their base specs, so Tempest didn’t have any new ground to cover. A lot of people weren’t really excited about it being a frontline support spec, because ele can already support better than almost any other class with staff.

Except that’s not what happened. Remember all those Mordrem Snipers that killed so many people in the intro mission? They’ve been straight up removed. I haven’t found a single one in the wild except in the blighting tree area and the late night defense events. I have to disagree with that. If you really think .5 seconds will make that big a deal, then that really would be a L2P issue. I play with 250 ping, everything I do has .5 seconds delay or more. It certainly would not matter in PvE unless you are trying to optimize everything about your damage, in which case I would say you are playing the wrong class.

It would hurt gameplay, actually. Adding a half second delay would mean that flashing DS would be the equivalent of a half second daze on yourself. There’s lots of times in PvP (sometimes even in pve) when a half second matters.

You get its cost bundled into the HoT purchase, which is $50 before the base game is added. Fortunately, the core game is free, so it doesn’t increase the cost of the expansion.

BWE 3 Feedback for my 4 hours of Testing Reaper

1: Power Build
2: Condi Build
3: different set of runes

  • IMPORTANT *

Question: Was there any behind the scene changes? Reaper DPS seems 10-15% less than BWE2

Great Sword

Skill 1 Looking good perhaps make Chill +6/8 seconds
Skill 2 G/Digger could do with either a slightly faster animation or make it a double hit (if you look at the animation looks like it should hit 5 targets 2450 × 2)
Skill 3 Love it! could do with a small Life-force increase or perhaps a dot added?
Skill 4 Radius still way to small perhaps we could try something like: Example 1/2

Example 1 Start at 800 Radius and then suck targets in while slowing them then knocking back ?

Example 2 Faster growth up to 480 Radius Change interval to 1 seconds and extend for 8 seconds so it pulses x8

Skill 5 Seems to be working well, the position is critical so very much only thing I could suggest would be a Bigger Frontal Arc

Reaper Shroud

Skill 1 Looking good, would suggest making life-force 2-3% per Skill however

Skill 2 as many people have said Speed up or Knock Mobs down as it charges

Skill 3 n/a

Skill 4 Love it (With Quickness its to die for Literally)

Skill 5 Radius could do with an update or perhaps adding a Tremor effect from the Centre out words when it lands ?

Other feedback

  • If wings or other back-pieces are equipped they need to be part of Reaper Shroud
can we seed about making this possible please? it would really compliment the Reaper form
  • Augery of Death doesn’t appear to be working the Recharge part 7% x5 should be a 35% bonus but it isnt applying
  • Please fix Scythe Scale
  • if possible Allow Legendary effects to work within Reaper Form (Twilight for example) cutting through subspace etc etc

Holy kittening kittens, I’ve never seen a collection of more unbalanced suggestions in my life.

Are you actually suggesting turning the auto attack into a 10 second chill? Or making Nightfall an 800+ radius hard-CC spam? Or wanting RS2 to be kitten cooldown aoe knockback?

I just miss the difficulty. Not having gliding is fine, I understand why I can’t glide right this instant. But the lack of difficulty just makes me sad, because I don’t know if it’ll change. The first two weekends were great, I had to use all my abilities, I was rewarded for using defensive abilities and gear, and monsters felt like actual threats, rather than just things I bump into on the way to somewhere else.

Good to know you gutted the damage values of reaper …it can’t do anything special now typical power build now is greater then what it’s now become. Struggle with anything at all but when I switch back to my old build it’s like someone put it on easy mode. why nerf reaper into the ground revert the damage nerfs

You’re still wearing your celestial gear, aren’t you.

Flashing shroud has tons of uses that we would be very sad to lose. There’s a ton of things that we can flash DS to proclike Furious Demise (5s fury) and Beyond the Veil (3s protection) and Life from Death (decent heal), and Weakening Shroud (aoe weakness and bleed), which can all be done nearly instantly between skill casts, because DS has no cooldown on exiting. We can also flash into and out of it to use Doom to ensure an important projectile hits, or even while being CC’d ourselves, while not forcing us to stay in it for long. And, most important, if it had a cooldown on exiting, Foot in the Grave would go from an incredible stunbreak with a 10 (or 7) second cooldown, to not really acting like a stun break at all if we don’t want to stay in DS.

I know it’s not really helpful to say it, but it really is an issue of you just needing to be more careful. But, if you practice flashing into and out of DS to use some of those traits, then you’ll learn to be much more careful about double tapping.

Don’t forget Foot in the Grave. An instant stunbreaker on 10 seconds + 1 stack of stab. It’s pretty useful for the types of players that don’t use DS other than utility, like Condi-mancer.

…I didn’t.
