Is Reaper's Shroud damage really good enough?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

It does about the same damage as dagger once Reaper’s Onslaught gets fixed to, y’know, work at all. It then gives the benefits of being usable with a second health bar, applying a crapton of trait effects on the auto attack (might, vuln, burning, death perception), cleaves more targets, and comes with 4 other useful abilities, rather than dagger 2 and 3 which are kind of useless. And it’ll allow you to take 2 weapons that aren’t dagger, for greatly increased utility.

How do you know it doesn’t work like that in testing? We have so little information on it is probably premature to start making claims like these.

What’s up with people wearing armor and using weapons? Everyone should just run around naked and dodge randomly until someone forfeits.

Now I really want to see a No Armor, No Traits, No Heal/Utility/Elite, Offhand Weapon Only tournament.

No ascended trinkets for Valk?

Captain Unusual.9163

I’m planning on making a Valkyrie Reaper when HoT hits, relying on Decimate Defenses instead of precision. So far I have everything made, except for my trinkets. Apparently there’s no ascended Valkyrie trinkets in the game; the closest we get is a Berserker’s trinket that trades 18 precision for vitality. What do you think would be the best substitute for ascended Valk trinkets? I’d prefer not to use zerk, since I already wind up with around 107-130% crit chance in shroud.

pHIS IS a good thing.

In your opinion. Many will hate this. They played GW2 to get away from raiding and all the associated BS.

Well, the main turnoff for me from standard raiding was the gear treadmill, and we know 100% that they’re not putting one of those in.

Daredevil; super-hard counter to Reaper?

in Necromancer

Captain Unusual.9163

Assuming the Reaper was ever not blinded/dodged/stunned, yes. This is what would happen.

But given the spec gives Thieves even more ways to do those things…

Right, that’s what I meant. Thief will dance around a necro and shut him down, but if the thief makes a single mistake, he’s kittened. Honestly, I feel like catching and crushing a thief is one of the most satisfying things in the game.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the"Elite" specs?

Captain Unusual.9163

So far I’ve been a bit bored with the Tempest, and didn’t try out the Chronomancer since I don’t know mesmer that well, but had a ton of fun with the Reaper and Dragonhunter. Both of them feel different enough from the base class to be new and exciting, while still having the same general feel. Herald doesn’t interest me that much, but Berserker and Daredevil look like tons of fun.

So far, I like all the elites except Tempest and Herald.

The rules specific to this cup are:
- Banned Amulets: Celestial, Soldier, Crusader, Cavalier, Knight, Settler, Barbarian, Sentinel, Cleric and Magi

- Necromancers are not allowed to have more than 20% life force at start

- No elites over 120 seconds

- No Dwayna runes

- Map: Forest of Niflhel – Beach area

- RO32 and RO16 are Bo1, Quarters and Semi-Finals are Bo3, Grand-Finals are Bo5

If you have any feedback or questions, be sure to leave a comment!
Hope to see you there!

So, 10 out of the 17 amulets are banned? And only Flesh Golem allowed as an elite?

Can you just post a list of specifically permitted builds so we don’t have to worry about banning everything?

And why ban Dwayna runes? Did they get OP recently and I didn’t hear about it?

Elite Spec Naming

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Daredevil is an incredibly fitting name, considering what the spec does. It’s built around fighting groups of enemies and surviving via Tons of Dodges. If they kitten up once, they’re dead. Enforcer is a terrible name, because they’re not a tough brawler, they’re a nimble thrill-seeker.

Dragonhunter doesn’t bother me at all, either. Sure, everyone’s a dragon hunter. Everyone’s also a warrior, too. And for the last 3 years, everyone in PvE has been a berserker.

And Bioware didn’t invent the use of “Herald” or “Reaper”, so that complaint is pretty stupid. I’ll admit that I’m a bit peeved that Herald doesn’t get a warhorn, but the name itself is good.

Why isn't anything being done?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

I hear this argument: It is not a necromancer issue, it’s a PvE issue.

Wrong. It is a necromancer issue.

If the necromancer can complete content, but does so in ways that screw up things for everybody else, then everybody else won’t want a necromancer. Further the supposed things that “a necromancer brings that aren’t wanted in PvE” aren’t really necromancer strengths either.

What necro brings is fear, chills, cripples, poison and weakness, not in any particular order; as well as second-to-none group condi management. Omitted vuln because while we’re good at it, so are most of the other classes,

What we do bring to the table is a debuff tank. We have the large health pool and undervalued damage of a tank, but instead of buffs we have debuffs and anti-boon skills.
.

Fear isn’t good in PvE since the mob runs away. Its functions the same way as a stun, (which other classes have far more access to), with a run away effect.

Poison access is all on scepter which is too bad to use in its current state (and minions which will not be allowed to be top tier)

Chill seemingly does nothing. Kiting PvE mobs isn’t a thing that exists.

Cripples the same. Plus cripple access isn’t very good, and is mostly tied to terrible axe and scepter weapons.

A necromancer can spec for a good amount of weakness by taking a grandmaster trait. But even this is weaker than more than 100% uptime weakness on autoattack which Elementalists and thieves have (and Revenant will get zero cool down weakness attacks), or stacking weakness by blasting poison fields.

I don’t even know what “group condition management” even is, but if it’s plague signet and unholy martyr, just stop. Those are bad. Real group condition management is interacting with fields for a group condition clear every few seconds.

Necromancer boon rips dont really excel either. Mesmer has boon rip on autoattack of a popular weapon. That’s far better for pvE than the necromancer having a lot of long cool down boon rips. Even excepting mesmer, The necromancer doesn’t outperform the boon rip sigil that anybody can take by much, and many other classes have a trait that boon rips every 10 or 15 seconds, putting them close to necromancer tier, at significantly less lost DPS investment.

(also necromancer boon rips turn stability into fear, which may be unwanted).

So you’re saying that none of those things can ever possibly be made useful in PvE?

What if there’s a monster that moves very fast and has a strong AoE damage aura? Fear, cripple, and chill would be fantastic against it.

What if there’s a monster that needs to be CC’d but also pulses stability? You could bring a bunch of thieves to spam headshot, or you could use a single boon corruption to cc it instantly.

Condition management doesn’t just refer to aoe cleanses. Necromancers can also aoe convert conditions into boons, pull conditions off allies and transfer them to enemies, or just collect them all and eat them for health. Similar to revenant, but a bit less vulnerable to killing yourself if resistance gets removed.

Enemies like the Mordrem Husk Copper (I think, maybe it’s iron) is a fantastic boss to fight as a condition necromancer. It lasts long enough that the necro’s slow stacking but long lasting conditions can really build up to a critical mass, and the hordes of dangerous adds make epidemic an incredibly strong skill, and condi transfers let you save an ally that got caught and slapped with 30 bleed stacks by moving those bleeds onto the boss.

There are absolutely ways to make the necromancer’s strengths meaningful in PvE. Not everything will always be a “blast fire fields then stack and burn” fight.

Drop Rate Precursor Weapon

Captain Unusual.9163

Hi Everyone,

I started looking into the idea of precursors last night after about 6 years/2000+ hours of play and still not a single precursor. That is until last night.

So I got curious and started to look up how hard it is to get these. This thread is the only one I’ve found that seems to talk about this. My searches have not turned up any others so either the search function doesn’t work or this is the only thread that talked about it. I’ve been reading what everyone is saying and I figured I would throw in my experience to see if it might throw up another data point of how I got mine.

I am a WvW player most of the time. So I don’t do dungeons, I do story content and have 2 toons that mapped the world. But really my thing is EoTM to level toons, guild events, and EB and BLs to karma farm.

What made this drop interesting is this: I was in EB in a zerg and we charged another zerg near a tower. Playing one of my Elementalists I was able to AOE a bunch of enemy faction players. What made this attack interesting was one of the warriors was equipped with Twilight. You don’t miss a weapon like that.

In the heat of battle I probably hit him a few times as the waves went back and forth. It was a crazy long zerg battle. Then somehow the warrior with Twilight got separated from his allies and I saw him alone, very hurt, and nuked him with my elemental air attacks in sequence to take him all the way down. I got the kill AND the Dusk precursor.

I don’t believe in coincidences and I do absolutely believe luck was involved in getting the Dusk drop. But I find it extremely interesting I got it after killing a warrior wielding Twilight.

Why would you bump a two year old thread? Why not just make a new one?

Jesus christ you guys are still whining about this?

Why isn't anything being done?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Anet should prioritize getting HoT out first, so that’s why nothing is being done.

As for HoT feedback,

Reaper GS is looking very very glass cannon.
Reaper Shroud is melting very quickly due to lack of defenses
Shouts look underpowered, but zero cast time is OP so they are ok
Chill doesn’t cut it as a control mechanic with this amount of access to the condition
Reaper is extremely weak outside of melee range because staff is really weak once 4+5 go on cool down (and focus/axe/scepter are garbage tier)

If this is how it should be, then all anet needs to do is tweak numbers when they want us in or out of meta.

As for necromancer issues:

The condition update made all damaging conditions other than burning garbage
Only Dagger and Warhorn are strong weapons
Damage in PvE is low, Support in PvE is low
Need to be carried by teammates in pvE and Pvp
Taking anything other than staff nerfs your death shroud damage
Condition transfers cause enemies to rally off their teammates
Necromancer long cast/cool down transfers Ill equipped to deal with burning meta

Reaper is Glass Cannon? Have you tried running Valkyrie armor and decimate defenses? 75% crit chance normally, 125% in RS, and 32k health plus a second health bar that will actually fill up pretty kitten fast due to the GS auto changes.

Electro Blue Dye, Why?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

For the case of Electro Blue specifically, there was a small number of people, possibly even just one, who spent a lot of money to buy all the EB dyes in the trading post after they were no longer purchaseable, and then put them back up on the trading post at a much higher price. Since there were no other Electro Blue dyes in the game other than the ones he bought, the price couldn’t come down below where he set it.

NO!

Those wings are probably the only thing that have a kind of prestige status.

You can buy everything in GW2 but the wings are one of the few Skins that cant be bought. If I think about it, they are probably the only skin that cant be bought (except the skins that are unlocked via AP and Karma skins)

So…

NO RE-RELEASE!

nononononononononononononononononononononononononononono

Sorry I have to correct you, the MOST prestigious item in game is the “Endless Fractal Tonic”. Why? It comes only from high level fractal. It’s non trade-able, and has a ridiculously small drop that is even lower than precursor.

When I see someone with that tonic, I don’t think to myself “wow, that guy must be really good at this game to have that. Maybe one day I’ll be as good as he is.”

I think “Wow, that guy’s really lucky. Maybe one day the RNGods will give me something good.”

As much as I want them too, they can’t be released again without releasing other old skins like Ghastly Grinning Shield or other various items, and that could potentially destroy the market while insulting veteran players in one bold move.

Destroy the market? Look at the Ghastly Grinning Shield. There’s almost zero movement in this market, there are 1-6 shields that get traded from one rich player to another rich player maybe once or twice per week. I don’t see how this should be a more desirable market form than one with a little more supply, lower prices and more players participating.
Who decides what ‘destroys’ a market? Rich players with Ghastly Grinning Shields? I don’t think so. Neither do I decide, of course. From an objective point of view rising prices are just as fine as falling prices.
The only markets that I’d consider as destroyed are Tiny Snowflakes, Thick Leather Sections and Medallions, since these are markets that are of use to almost nobody.

I do own the Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings and the Molten Gauntlets. And I don’t care if they re-release them… They weren’t even hard to get! All this ‘I play GW2 longer than you do’ is just bullkitten.
The only truly prestigious items ingame are Mini Liadri, the King Toad skins and the Storm Wizard skins. And maybe the Fractal Capacitor and the Luminescent Armor. If they’d add cheap ways to get them, only then I’d be kittened.

For 10 points the key words were!???

You guessed right! “Potentially” and “Other various items” …. Using Grinning Ghastly skin was but a mere example my friend

Also,

The only truly prestigious items ingame are Mini Liadri, the King Toad skins and the Storm Wizard skins. And maybe the Fractal Capacitor and the Luminescent Armor.

Mind explaining to me why PvE Living story event skins that happened last year are more prestigious than the ones from 3 years ago? Or how a fractal capacitor (which most ppl own) is again more prestigious than a grinning ghastly shield that 100 people can win from raffles from time to time? Personally I would have thought having a low chance of winning something in a blue moon would make it more valueable than a months worth of grinding for a skin that most people have but never use?
I know it generally comes down to personal opinion too which is why I’m curious to hear yours

Generally, prestige is associated with skill, or at least time poured into something, in the case of the fractal capacitor. The only thing the ghastly shield shows is that you got lucky with a drop. No one is impressed with someone who got lucky and had a rare skin drop, but Liadri and the SAD skins at least prove that you were skilled at something.

What? That you can press space bar, dodge, and have very little latency? lolololol Hate to burst your bubble but the moment there were guides to getting those items the skill requirement to get them went out the window lololol. The prestige on the Halloween skins isn’t about that. It’s about being at THE FIRST event for GW2. Being present and having the RAREST items that came from it…

I know you feel like putting in some words in all caps makes your argument stronger, but the fact is that no one is impressed by someone whose only achievements were being present and being lucky.

I know enough about programming to know that this sort of bug arises when something completely unrelated was fixed.

I remember years ago in WoW, some bug made Orc shoulders smaller than normal, and fixing it ended up completely shutting down the mail system and auction house for like a week.

Clipping is never going to go away, restricting items because of the possible clipping is pointless, they might as well never add anything else to the game with your logic because it will add to the clipping.

I’m thinking the people for whom this is a livelihood rather than a hobby have some standards on what they will and won’t release. Almost like there’s a whole spectrum of clipping severity rather than it being a binary state. So far they haven’t solved cloaks in a way that rises to those standards. It’s not like they don’t know the interest is there.

Reaper Chill damage formula

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

I’m not saying it shouldn’t make chill do damage, i’m just saying the damage should be rather low, or else not scale off of condi damage very highly. If it did damage comprable to (for instance) fear, it would be OP because there are far to many ways to apply it (chilling darkness, shivers of dread, plus natural chill applications) and the utility of the condition is pretty good without it doing damage.

Why would that be OP?

Necros have no condition burst, and can only do 6-8k dps from their bleeds max, putting them 30% less dps than the top power builds in the game.

Auto attacks from thieves can easily crit for 2k+ damage, more than double that of a fear crit, is that OP?

Typical chill duration is 2-4s, even at 1k damage per tick that would be 2k-4k total damage. Compare that to the following traits:

MINOR trait: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Burning_Precision (2k damage burn on crits!)

GM trait: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bolt_to_the_Heart (20% damage increase on EVERY attack)

GM trait: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Berserker%27s_Power (20% damage increase on EVERY attack)

I could go on for every class, but I don’t see why every other class should get 2-3k extra dps except 2-3s chills on necro. All of those traits apply in AOE’s and cleaves as well, so I fail to see how spreading a 3s chill is any different. Also remember that chill only stacks 5 times so if you apply more than 5 chills you get no effect (including chills other people apply) That’s right, other classes can literally steal damage away from necros.

Perhaps one day Necromancers too can get a 20% bous damage while under 50% health trait…

That’s actually something that us necromancers don’t want. The ability to flash into and out of shroud in an instant is a very useful tool. Whether it’s for proccing Furious Demise and not interrupting what you were doing, or quickly popping in just long enough to cast our instant-cast fear, or using it as a stunbreak with Foot in the Grave, there’s a lot of reasons why we want to hop into and out of shroud instantly, and adding a lockout period on reactivating it would mess up a lot of useful techniques. Honestly, I’m not trying to sound rude, but this is a case of you just not being careful. Accidentally ending shroud when I didn’t mean to is not a problem I have very often.

It’ll really depend on what the new difficult HoT content is. In their current state, they pretty much only offer a ferocity aura and a few aoe boons, but I’m hopeful that we’ll have some pve in HoT that requires more than just ice bows and might stacking.

Roy, dodge fluff maybe?

Since we’re all getting some fluff then on ele how about the ele turn into whatever element they are in. If I’m in Fire attunement then when I dodge I become engulfed in flames. If I’m in water I’m made of water etc..

Mesmer could have a blurry vision look

Rangers could be wrapped in leaves

Guardians glow white

How does turning into rock help you dodge? The rest of them work, but not that one. Maybe turn to sand/dust?

Mesmers already have the necessary visuals from their sword2 ability.

Guardians could be shielded by a blue/white energy bubble, kind of like a Super Smash Bros block.

Warriors and Rangers shouldn’t have anything fancy, since they’re about physical prowess, rather than magic or trickery.

And I have no ideas for Engineers. A flashbang grenade goes off? A puff of smoke?

Foot in the grave. Break-bar pls?

Infusing Terror is already almost a break bar, but without any of the drawbacks.

The real problem is that all our useful fixes are being bundled into the Reaper.
