Will HoT's story steps be in order?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Captain Unusual.9163

ANet has come out against a linear storyline ever since the New Player Experience patch, correctly identifying that story steps removed from causality and traditional storytelling methods is easier to understand. Can we assume this trend will continue in HoT, or will they go back to the old, obsolete story model, with all the steps happening in chronological order?

What was *not* anounced for the new expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Captain Unusual.9163

  • Dungeons
  • Raids
  • Races
  • End to all zerker all dps
  • Complexity to dungeons
  • Non-heavy classes

The first two points aren’t confirmed. They may be added to the new region. Not a new raiding system but perhapd, raid-like content in the new maps.

Well, according to their FAQ (https://help.guildwars2.com/home);

Q: When is the next big feature reveal for what’s coming in this expansion?

A: We wanted to reveal Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns when we were ready to talk about every major feature we’re planning. That’s why right now, every major feature planned for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is there for you to check out at http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com. That said, there are so many details left to uncover and share with you, to show you, and to eventually let you play as we take you on the journey from now through launch.

… every major feauture was revealed or mentioned.

As far as I know, dungeons/raids and new races are major feautures in the MMO genre. What would MMOs be without dungeons and races?

Raids are not a major feature of guild wars 2 neither are dungeons. Most of the things they talked about where either brand new. I mean based on your logic are not getting new armor because they never announced it.

That saves us Charr some fresh disappointment.

I know a lot of things point toward Mursaats, however there is a detail that do not fit in, unless it is just a question of design. Original muursats had black “wings”, while the creatures from the trailer sport glowing “wings” made of light.

Can someone explain the difference (aside of a design change) ?

Probably the same reason why trolls look different from GW1 to Gw2

Probably the same reason why the krait look different from GW1 to Gw2

Probably the same reason why irukanji look different from GW1 to Gw2

Probably the same reason why skelk look different from GW1 to Gw2

Probably the same reason why drakes look different from GW1 to GW2

etc.

So, it’s all Scarlet’s fault?

I prefer when Charr run on all fours. It makes them feel more unique and helps them stand out from all the other Humans-with-weird-skin-problems that is every playable race in every other MMO.

But you can already control it by having your weapon drawn or sheathed.

New Soldier Class: Reaper

I think it’s a bit too similar to necromancer. And a bunch of necromancer’s traits have reaper in it.

Maybe the necromancer specialists will have similar mechanics.

Eh, it’s not like there can’t be some overlap. Guardians and Warriors already have a ton of similar mechanics, so there’s no reason necros can’t share some of their neat stuff.

3 new Biomes = just 3 new maps?

Defeating the 5 champions?

in Living World

Captain Unusual.9163

I originally assumed that 5/5 would have awarded an exotic items bag, but then I found out it was only 3 rare bags… I was very disappointed since gold and silver teragriffs required more coordination than the other champions and are typically the last champs to go down and three rare bags just didn’t seem that alluring to aim for 5/5.

Of course, thinking about it now, it could crash the exotics market, probably cause the precursor market to plummet, and cause the t6/t5 crafting mats market to skyrocket.

That sounds pretty nice. After taking a break, the inflation has caught me quite by surprise.

Why no communication on upcoming plans

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Has there ever been a statement from ANet about why they won’t communicate to us their plans? Not specific ones, but just vague directions?

When I look at Blizzard, or Riot, there’s a ton of communication about why they make the changes they do, and what changes they plan to make. Not necessarily about specific things, but they talk direction a lot. I feel that is very lacking here. All the real “discussions” about overall game direction are in the form of Reds either asking us questions and saying “neat” to one or two replies, or just saying “here is where you will discuss the thing. Now discuss, but be nice.”

These forums have grown incredibly uninteresting, because every thread is just the same discussion about problems that have been around since the start of the game that have never actually been talked about by any devs. Even the CDI’s don’t feel worthwhile anymore, since the only official responses in the threads are “that’s a cool idea” and “stop being rude”. There’s no “we plan on implementing something like that” or “we tried that internally and it didn’t work.”

Is the official policy just to not say anything ever? And if so, why choose that, over the very effective and functional policy other companies have?

Wait.. You can't DODGE?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Correct me if I’m wrong… But people are saying that you can’t dodge with low level characters anymore. Is this ACTUALLY true?

This is incorrect, you should be able to absolutely dodge at any level. There is a lot of misinformation (and some bugs) going around about systems the game teaches you about, but are totally available from level 1 if you want to go do them. The level many of the things the new level up system tells you about doesn’t mean they are unlocked at that level, it simply exists as a reminder if you haven’t learned it by then. Feel free to dodge away! You can also go do jumping puzzles any time you want for example, the game just gives you a heads up they exist at level 21 if you haven’t found one by then, etc.

We’re also seeing a lot of bugs, and unintended functionality folks are reporting in a number of the threads on the new player experience that don’t align with what we announced the system to be. We’re working on identifying and resolving all of these issues as quickly as possible, some of the absolutely legitimate concerns folks are bringing up (like some of the bigger issues with alts) are not intended and appear to have been flagged incorrectly when they moved between development regions. Fixes incoming soon as we can identify everything.

Please continue to give feedback and suggestions, we very much appreciate it as it’s allowed us to identify a lot of not intended issues, as well as bugs.

Thanks!

When you say “the bigger issues with alts”, does that mean that some of these level-based unlocks will be removed for players with higher level characters? So I won’t have to wait till level 40 to get my elite skill, or 8 to go in the water and fight salmon? Or are you referring to something else?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

And this is the problem. A lot of misconception. People grief because they don’t like something so they over exaggerate the truth.

It’s not over exaggerating, it’s assuming that, because being told about dodging is a level-up reward, that dodging unlocks then. Because many people think it’s silly to be dodging and doing stuff for five levels before the game goes out of its way to tell you about it.

Like how it’s silly for us to be able to participate in level 15 world boss fights, and the game gives us specific information about world bosses at level 76. It’s confusing at best, and broken if it works how it looks.

This has been a bad week for gamers who like stories. First, League of Legends threw out all of its lore, and then GW2 threw out some of its story and rearranged the rest into something that doesn’t actually make any sense, putting resolutions and endings before introductions and development.

I guess I’ll go read a book or something. At least then I know if nothing makes sense, it’s a printing error.

Captain Unusual.9163

How helpful, it will give us some information about combos at level 52. I assume most people haven’t used any finishers or fields by that point. Or maybe they have used some finishers, since we get information about THOSE at level 34.

And at 76, it tells us about world bosses! Maybe that’ll help some new players go back to Caledon Forest and Queensdale and Metrica and Wayfarer Foothills and fight those level 15 bosses. This one is pretty reasonable, since probably 90% of players just start in Ashford and don’t leave there till around level 70.

Admittedly, it’s probably good not to tell people about the Mystic Toilet until level 69.

Also, information about the BLTC is listed at level 8 and at 59. Do they just remind us 51 levels after they first tell us?

So. Up until my 4th character got to that point, I never actually realized that the greatest fear we picked was a story division. Silly me, right? I always felt that Krait Orb kind of came out of nowhere.

But then I did the storyline with Apatia and the Krait Orb, and was going to be going through Tonn’s story next. But…I guess now I can’t?

Is my only option now to just read it on the wiki and lament that I’ll never get to experience it?

I’d seriously appreciate if someone from ANet could come tell me if that’s true, or if they’re fixing it.

So, I’ve mained Necro since beta, and I’m interested in getting a bit of perspective.

As a Necromancer, I don’t feel like I can take part in the combo system at all. We have one weapon with two finishers and one field, and that’s all we have outside of a couple awkward to use utilities as far as combo fields/finishers go. Every time I see a group organizing fields and finishers, I just feel awkward and left out (and a bit relaxed that I don’t have to worry about contributing).

What about other classes? What parts of the game do you feel you can’t take part in due to your favorite class?

It’s kind of a neat idea, but a bit overcomplicated for a weapon. It doesn’t seem to really have an auto-attack. Or any sort of life-force generation. Both of which are very necessary for a necro weapon. It’d fit better as a conjured weapon, or some sort of environmental or story weapon.

Repeat dyes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Captain Unusual.9163

Captain Unusual.9163

Have you played since April 15th? If so, then this doesn’t apply to you.

On the April 15th patch, dyes were changed from being learned on each character individually, to being learned for your account. If you had learned the same dye on multiple characters, then they’d compensate for that by giving you an unidentified dye for each duplicate your account would have.

After April 15th, dyes are just unlocked for your account, none of this matters since it was to compensate players who had spent resources on getting dyes on multiple characters.

Oh man, have you considered writing an advice column for a magazine? Or doing motivational talks for underprivileged children?

Anyway, OP, the fight is actually pretty tough, especially if you don’t come with any condition cleanse. It’s really easy to accidentally rack up like 10-15 seconds of fear if you get unlucky and a bunch of fear wards spawn in a row.

My advice is to bring a couple condition cleanses or stun breaks (at least one of each), and to just go slowly and carefully, prioritizing keeping yourself alive. Just because the Imperator is there watching you doesn’t mean you need to be reckless and try to be heroic.
