I read through that post four times and I’m still not quite sure what you’re trying to say.
Portal to Heart of Maguuma = Pointless?

So I’ve been hearing mention that players will be able to buy the “Pre-Order” of HoT which will “grant access to all beta events” and the exclusive title “Maguuma Trailblazer”?
Considering the RNG involved for this Beta Key drop I really feel like the effort I put in to getting this item was wasted and pointless…
Do we get something else for our efforts? Or do we just get to sit here feeling like we got played? I must say it’s not a very good feeling knowing how hard I tried to get that item only to find out that I didn’t need to do that at all since I was going to buy the “Pre-Order” anyways :/
I think it’s a great idea, for those that did not have the time to grind, they have to purchase the beta access with money. For those that did grind and had the time they get it for FREE. I know people that had time and did the grind but no drop either. What are you complaining about?
Just because other people have to pay to get the same privilege I got through luck doesn’t mean they deserve that privilege. They should have to be lucky, too. I don’t want the luckless rabble polluting my glorious beta weekend.
Lol! That’s rofling me! XD 8D Xd
Well, if it’s condi damage, you could run Dhuumfire/Terror/Deathly Chill and go Rabid or Dire and probably do something in the field of a gajillion damage.
Why should Deathly Chill get a special pass? Nothing wrong with having something nice for condimancers and celestialmancers.
Honestly, with all the CC a necro brings, I’m comfortable just going pure Sinister as a chillomancer, assuming they let us use it in PvP when HoT hits.

What I really want is the armour the shroud demo character was wearing; Mix n matching that would be fun!!
anyone know if it’s something we’ll have access to if we don’t already?
Pretty sure it was just the Arah set, plus the Reaper specific hood.
Given ANet’s track record with expansions, I can only assume that HoT will be tiny and have very little content.
Based on which Expansions?
He is likely talking about “More than an expansions worth of content.” If they truly believe what they released during that time was more than an expansions worth of content, we are in for a pretty small sized expansion.
Actually, I was referring to all the other Guild Wars expansions they’ve released in the past.
Given ANet’s track record with expansions, I can only assume that HoT will be tiny and have very little content.
If they really want to promote build diversity, they should make chill scale from whichever is greater: condi or power.
That wouldn’t promote diversity, that would just mean you could be a condition mancer with the berserker bear you already have. There wouldn’t be a tradeoff between power and condition damage. Diversity is not just letting zerk gear be the best.
Hi all!
Just to clear up the confusion: This trait currently scales off of condition damage. The amount it scales with is in-flux, but what you saw in the P.O.I. episode was roughly 25-33% of Terror’s values.-Karl
Thanks for that, but I really have to ask if you expected this to be a point of confusion, or were as surprised as I was that people thought the condition’s damage would not scale with condition damage?
Learn to flash DS. If you get CC’d in a bad spot, shift into DS, hit 3, then immediately shift out. It can be done in a fraction of a second, and gets your foe off of you so you can recover. It’s also good for proccing Fury, if you’re specced into curses.
Tainted Shackles deals a big spike of damage when the immobilize procs, so always try to keep in range for that. You don’t need to remain in DS for it to finish, but Dark Path really helps get the full duration off.
Corrupt Boon as soon as you see someone use a big stability skill. You’ll bring them to tears as it transforms into Fear.
Deathly Swarm can transfer 9 (!) conditions off of you if it’s able to bounce. So consider letting those bleeds tick a couple more times if you know you’ll be able to get a better shot off.
Conditions in general should not be cleansed/transferred too soon. Let them build up, then when you feel they’re at about their peak, send them back with Dagger 4 or Staff 4 or Plague Signet, or just eat them all with Consume Conditions. You’re tanky enough to survive letting them build up a bit.
In open world pve, always bring Epidemic if you’re a condition build. Never let it off your bar. One press of a button can send out a total of 125 bleed stacks, which all operate according to your stats.
Life Transfer doesn’t actually deal that much damage to a single target. Only use it when there’s multiple targets. It is, however, pretty nice for proccing bleeds from barbed precision.
In sPvP, when guarding a point, feel free to pre-place some marks. Put Mark of Blood in a choke point to bait out your enemy’s dodge, and put Chillblains and Putrid Mark on top of each other. Very often, people will assume you put the dangerous marks first, and dodge through the mark of blood only to be hit by a ton of chill, poison, and weakness. Always save Reaper’s Mark, though.
You can judge if you’re within 600 range for Life Blast and Doom to be stronger by looking at the range indicator on DS4 and 5. If you’re in range for those, then DA 1 and 3 get better.
Actually, now that I think about it, he never explicitly said in the stream that all those direct damage abilities scale with power. Just like we have no idea if the condition’s damage will scale with condition damage, we have no idea if the greatsword attacks will scale with power.
It makes sense that Reaper attacks wouldn’t cause someone to bleed, instead they just freeze them solid.
I’ve whispered someone in pvp once, and been whispered by other people 3 times. Each time was just a compliment or question about part of our wardrobe.
It really depends on if it counts as hitting with the GS while in reaper’s shroud. Those are all fast hitting, multi target abilities, and if the extra life siphon still procs, it will be pretty nice to have.
“Your soul is mine” seems quite lackluster. It really should scale up its healing based on the number of targets hit, in addition to the life force gain. Kind of like Arcane Brilliance. Though I can see why they didn’t make it do that, because if they did it would basically just be the same spell. It does support a DS tanking sort of playstyle, which may be more valuable now that life siphons work through DS.
“You are all weaklings” is honestly my least favorite of the utility shouts. It has an amazing max potential, but the 4 second duration kind of makes it disappointing. You can basically get off one auto attack chain, or 2 gravediggers if they’re below 50%. It can be good for bursting groups in PvE, like if we need to kill huge piles of Mordrem Menders or something, but the duration really hurts its usefulness.
“Suffer” I quite like. The AoE chill is an excellent initiation ability, letting you launch yourself into a group with DS2 and then hold them there while you unload your GS AoE. The condition transfer won’t be consistent enough to take the place of Deathly Swarm or Plague Signet, since you won’t be able to control what goes on to who, and should be treated more as a condition cleanse, that just happens to also make your opponents sad.
“Nothing can save you” is moderately useful for the unblockable, but is also the only AoE boon strip the necromancer has access to, and the only one in the game besides the mesmer’s two. The 10 stacks of vuln is nice, but its real strength is its ability to completely nullify group buffs. It directly counters guardian and warrior support shouts, and can strip off fire blasted might from an entire group. I will definitely try replacing Corrupt Boon with this, at least on power pvp builds.
“Rise” is almost the coolest ability in the game. It’s not necessarily that great, and I can’t say much more since we don’t even know if they’re going to stick with Jagged Horrors or give something else, but this ability is just SO COOL YOU GUYS. Minion bomber builds will love it, and it can surely at least generate a lot of havoc in a big team fight.
“Chilled to the Bone” is the sort of ability that, if used well, can win games. It has a long cast time, but if you can cover it with our new DS stability, it can tip a fight irreparably in your favor. Yes, the cast time is as long as the stun, but the stun affects 5 people in a rather large area, and chills them for a whopping 12 seconds. A 12 second chill is preposterous. Your opponents need to either have a condition cleanse ready that can take care of the chill as well as the vuln that you hopefully traited over it, or they will die. And with the Resistance you get from each target, you’ll be able to slice through your frozen foes unimpeded.
Alright, having seen the Reaper in the livestream, I’m guessing that the Dagger’s niche is going to be pure single target damage with the flexibility of offhands. It seems like GS will be better than dagger once a foe is below 50%, though, when they can just chain cast Gravedigger, so I’m not sure how much use dagger will really find.
Although I’m hoping that they make some changes to Blood magic to buff up dagger’s lifestealing, since as it is now, the insane tankiness provided by the Reaper and GS kind of blows away any self healing the dagger provides.
They addressed that specifically in the livestream. We’re not getting a bucketful of blast finishers or fire fields, but Blood Magic is being reworked into a support line. One example given was to give allies lifesteal. They know the problems, and are going to give us a necromancer-themed way, rather than just a ton of blasts. We don’t know specifically what, but they did say specifically that it wouldn’t just be blasting fire fields.

ur making a big deal of a boon that can be removed and that lasts even less time than the average quickness boon
What? No he’s not. He expressed no opinions, only a question.
To OP, I would assume the traits still trigger, since the foe is still crippled, they’re just not affected by it.
I really thought this was going to be someone asking for an item that consumes a random thing in your inventory and spits out some bloodstone dust.
That’s what I had hoped. Would have been delightful.
We don’t even know what the greatsword does, we need to chill out.
That’s exactly what the greatsword does, according to the blog post.
Unfortunately it’s part of an outfit and not a separate armor piece, so if you want this hat it’s all or nothing. Like Lambent said, it’s the Hexed outfit.
Thanks for the head’s up ^^ i can mine corn at my friend’s home instance but getting 3000 is going to take a while. I also just found that it is for female characters only. Ah well i guess i just have to wait. Thank you though!
Corn is really cheap on the trading post. Each cob is like 1.5g
Why the hell is that outfit so different on males and females? There are literally no shared traits between the two.
Is there any reason why this change would not entirely fix the berserker meta? When enemies attack more often, players can’t rely on their two dodges to avoid everything, and now players start actually taking damage in fights.
Currently, MH Dagger is taken because it’s our only power weapon that doesn’t suck. Axe has range, but lousy damage. Dagger is melee, but has pretty good damage. But with the Greatsword being seemingly purely direct damage focused, what does that leave for the dagger? Basically everything the GS was stated to do, which is large damage in melee to many foes, along with strong life force generation and oodles of CC, is what the dagger already does. Am I missing something key here, or is the GS just a strictly better dagger?
Well the problem I have is that the build I’m using needs the power to help my heal power
I have no idea what you’re asking, but there is nothing in this game that could make what you just said here true. Lifesteal abilities scale their damage from power, and their healing from Healing Power.
Yes, they’re hard to get, but that shouldn’t give them higher value unopened than the highest possible value of opening them. Near as I can tell, there’s literally no way to buy one and not lose a lot of money.

you got the old skills Diovid, it has been updated, and Sword MH is more a power-based weapon (thank God, I was tired of the stupid Sword=Condition only philosophy).
In my case, I just hope to get a power Sword offhand to dual wield, but since they use axe offhand I guess mace & sword offhand will come in time too.
Of the 5 professions that can use swords, only one of them deals condition damage with it. Hell, among non-warrior sword skills, there is only 1 sword skill that even inflicts a damaging condition (Serpent Strike), and that’s mostly useful for the dodge.
They won’t be giving us new weapons for a while. Right now specializations are just expanding what current professions can wield. There is a Hammer skin that looks like a battle axe though.
Explain yourself and where can I get it?
Human is the only race I’ve never played. I always avoid playing as humans when I can; I see enough of them in real life, I want something different in my fantasy.
Guys look here!!!!
FIRST:

The trait will have a CD of 5 sec and will give you just 2 stack of might for 5 sec. CAMOUN!
SECOND:
Now look the guardian when block the attack (no cd):
http://i.imgur.com/Z6u8QVh.jpg
3 stack of might, no cd and for 15 sec
Maybe I’ve been playing my guardian wrong, but I feel it’s a tad easier to attack an enemy below 50% health than to block an attack.
I really hope the armor piece isn’t that hood. It looks so cool, but hoods will never not look like awkwardly hidden kittens on Charr.
Signet of vampire is the best skill for my Power Minion Master build. I wouldn’t mind it to be better but then it would be really OP.
Why would you think that? I am pretty sure that minions cannot trigger the stacks. And unless you have some allies to trigger the stacks, even blood fiend gives more damage and healing (not that bloodfiend is a good healing skill…).
1. Trigger the stacks? Well, axe does the job good enough for that.
2. I do rarely activate the signet, as my build outheal most damage thanks to all siphons.
3. When I activate signet I do it when I know I can hit the target and when I do I always gets full HP.
4. Bloodfiend is a really unreliable healing and can die.I am on my phone and can’t post my build for now but I will try too remember too put it in here and you can try it for yourself and try other healing skills with it then. So in my opinion signet of vampire is the best healing skill for MY build that I have made myself and I like to go against metas and yet find good builds.
1) You do know it has an internal cooldown per person, right? A single person, no matter how fast they hit, can only proc the mark 5 times. 4, realistically, since it lasts 5 seconds and you’d need to hit literally the instant it gets applied.
2) Minion siphons are neat. The signet siphon heals you slightly when you get hit. It’s just a very bad damage reduction. And if you’re surviving off siphons, that means you’re just not getting hit. Take Blood Fiend for a bit more damage.
3)I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to say here.
4) It is unreliable, but when it does work, it’s far more effective than the signet. And if you’re worried about reliability, take Consume Conditions.
I main a Necro in PvP and alternate between Necro and Warrior in PvE.
My thoughts as a PvP Necro:
Warriors: Fairly easy to deal with, just kite them all day until they blow Berserker Stance, then tank with Death Shroud. They look impressive but kind of aren’t.
Guardian: Bleeding kittens these guys are annoying to kill if I don’t hit them with Corrupt Boon. If I miss CB, I’ll just go find another point and not waste my time on them. Not terribly threatening, though. If I’m not in danger of losing, I’ll take the ten minutes to duel them.
Engineer: Full disclosure, I haven’t played PvP since the turret nerf. But before they got nerfed, whenever I saw one, I’d just turn 360 degrees and walk away.
Thief: Am I currently fighting someone else? If Yes: at least I do a lot of damage while downed, until they stomp me from stealth. If No: I’ll fear them to let them know they should just run away, and if they don’t, I’ll just let them slowly bleed to death while they’re downed because they can’t hurt me.
Ranger: On the rare occasion I fight one with its pet, they tend to be pretty strong and hard to deal with, but ultimately a fun fight. However, 80% of the time, I just fight the pet by itself, while the ranger is around a corner or fighting someone else or I don’t really know what. Any ranger mains here, let me know what it is you do all game while your pet is doing the work.
Mesmer: Kind of a coinflip, here. Half the time, they can’t really do enough damage to kill me and I’ll eventually wear them down through aoe bleeds. The other half, there’s a Thief hiding in one of their illusions.
Elementalist: I have no idea what you’re trying to do, but it looks very impressive. I’m sorry you couldn’t finish because you’re less durable than the average bunny.
Necromancer: Whichever of us uses our condition transfer first loses. Fights are a ridiculous montage of stacking conditions on each other, each waiting for the other to transfer them, so we can then transfer a double stack. Typically Necro vs Necro fights are resolved by whichever necro gets ganked by a Thief first.
3 Guardians with consecration traits beat 5 (or technically any number of) longbow rangers.
Deathly Swarm transfers 9 conditions if there’s more than one enemy to bounce to.
PROTIP: There is no reason to panic before you are given any reason to panic.

The profession-specific stat is being changed so that everyone gets 15% baseline, and the other 15% for being in the relevant spec. So, for that in particular, we are 100% certain there is no nerf.
As for stats, just swap gear around. Panicking when they say “gear will be buffed so there is no net loss of stats” and taking it to mean “everyone loses stats” makes no sense. If you’re not going to believe one thing they’ve stated extremely clearly, why believe anything else?
…the same ones that work for dagger? We don’t even know if the GS will be melee, or ranged, or deal exclusively with placing buffs on allies.
I’m loving that minimap.
kitten it, ANet, of all the armor to be extra careful about and make sure it looks kittening fantastic on Charr, why did you have to pick a Human God’s armor?
Saying to just give them aoe protection means you don’t really understand the game.
What counts as an AoE ability?
Lava Font? Yeah, of course.
Hundred Blades? Sure, that sounds like an AoE.
Necrotic Grasp? Uh, it does damage in a line, so maybe?
Every melee attack? They all cleave, even daggers, so do they count?
Non AoE abilities are basically just single target, instant cast CC abilities like Chains of Light and Doom. kitten near everything else is an AoE.
This has been fixed on the latest update!
Charr bug fix and a necro buff? Did you guys fire all your devs and hire new ones? Or is this part of the april fool’s joke?
Longstanding bitterness aside, I’m really glad to see this finally fixed. I’ll run around staring at the ground thankfully all night.
To OP: What armor (combination) is that? I especially like the helmet and the trousers. I know only the hands and shoulders though.
Head is Charr t1 cultural, shoulders and chest are arah, gloves are toxic, pants and boots are flame legion.
And back is Shattered Holographic dragon wings, because I finally found a way to make them not look dumb.
Just saw him while hanging around the Mists. Who wore it better?
And has anyone else encountered their own evil twin?
As much as I hate rng……I think it should remain rng. If it becomes step 1 do that. Step 2 do this. Step 3 do that your done….. everyone will have one making it not unique at all no?
You make it sound like all those steps will be trivial. Chances are, it’ll be more along the lines of getting the Luminescent armor, where each piece requires a boss or special challenge.
Though really, even if it was just “collect a christmas ornament from six different jumping puzzles”, it would still be more epic and exciting than rng.
RNG doesn’t separate the legendary players from the forgettable players, it just separates the lucky from the unlucky. There’s nothing legendary about getting lucky.
EPIC quest.
