Here are my two tricks to winning in solo queue.
1. Be adaptable. If 2 of your team end up going far, its not very wise for you to go mid just to die. Either help out at far or home since they probably realize whats going on and send a bunch to either of those points.
2. Play in such a way that your team cant help but win. Dont play selfishly. Its all about what the team is doing. This can also vary based on your class, but you can still carry well on almost any class. Some of the best however would be: turret engi (at low mmr), a good bunker guard, and a good thief

hammer/staff/shield are not mediyes you have binding blade but the knockdown is short duration
If you say hammer isn’t a medi build idk what to say. Ever done a precast SoW and mighty blow→JI combo? Staff and shield may not be common but they can work in some builds
Practice. Watch streams of other thieves (sizer and caed). Watch youtube videos posted here on the forums.

You shouldn’t use it in pvp. The only real use is in WvW zergs when you clash into another Zerg. Then its basically a 0-100% heal. But anywhere else its useless since players can see the green numbers pop up when they hit you and stop attacking, leaving you with absolutely nothing.
Exactly, theres an opening combo you use to start off with an advantage, but after that its all based on how the enemy reacts. For example my starting combo is 1. Precast basi venom. 2. Cast CnD while using infil sig then daze with sword stealth attack. Get some autos in until daze wears off or they stunbreak. 3. Use #3 to evade any counterattack and then infil strike followed by a larcenous strike they can’t dodge since theyre immobed. From there it should be pretty easy as theyre at half health and you still have steal available for a finishing burst (Steal while using CnD, swap to SB to immob and cluster bomb spam)

There are no rotations, for any build or class, except on PVE. Combat in this game is reactive and as long as your enemy isn’t a target dummy you won’t land half of your carefully thought out “combo”
If theres even a semi competent thief on the enemy team, you will get rekt no matter what you do as a glass staff
medi guard has no cc
You have binding blade, and depending on the build scepter immob, hammer immob/banish/RoW, shield knockback, or staff LoW. Obviously not all in the same build, but medi guard has a fair amount of CC

D/d, and shadow arts in general isnt viable in spvp. This is because you decap points while in stealth.
Players who says things like this always makes me laugh. SA in PvP is used to travel from point to point in stealth — thus giving them the upperhand when ambushing someone guarding a point. With this advantage, the Thief can dispose of the point guard before the Thief will ever need to stealth again.
Simply put:
Stealth -> go to point 1 -> kill enemy -> cap
Stealth -> go to point 2 -> kill enemy -> capOnly noobs tries to cap a point while in stealth.
Right. Remind me how many top thieves run any SA at all in spvp

D/d, and shadow arts in general isnt viable in spvp. This is because you decap points while in stealth. D/p 2/6/0/0/6 is however very strong and viable
Get the minimum amount of armor and health you need to survive and from there go full out zerker. Everyone has a different minimum based on skills/playstyle. Only you can know what your minimum is.

actually you got me with impale a couple of times but it didn’t stick too long , were you not running condi duration food?

Ive actually been trying out 0/6/0/4/4 in both spvp and wvw and its working wonders. you still have all the dmg of 6 crit strikes while keeping the good survivability from acro and the nice boon steal from trickery. sometimes I miss sleight of hand, but oh well.
Seems understandable to me. If ArenaNet won’t remove the map after complaints from a majority of the competitive PvP community, protesting is reasonable.
2 words. team. queue
theres this guy named “afk cus skyhammer”. whenever skyammer comes up he switches to this char and he sits in base all game autorunning doing nothing. I had my whole team, and all the other team report him for botting. yes, this map is poorly designed and no one really likes it, but this is the wrong way to protest. you shouldn’t screw over 9 other people just because you don’t like a map. if its that big of an issue for you then queue in team. doing this is just silly and childish

To play D/D effectively you should be swapping in and out of attunements constantly. Dont be one of those eles who just sits in fire, or water, whatever just camping the same attunement all day. Your only using 25% of your skillset this way. Dont be one of those guys. To that effect its essentially perma fury. If you need pointers on when to switch attunement s watch some streams or YouTube videos. Yes ideally tho youd have 2.2k power, 50% crit before fury, 17k health, 700 healing power, 2.8k toughness, and 220% crit dmg. But that simply cant happen. Sacrifices have to be made somewhere.
As for runes, strength are absolutely ideal for d/d. You have so many blast finishers, and 2 fire fields to blast in. Because of this most d/d builds are capable of sitting at 20-25 stacks of might. Battle sigils are also very important
@Falunel You were awfully quick to disparage others for pointing out that something is seriously wrong with this boss. Just having killed him myself, I can attest to the fact that he is above and beyond any of the others in this game in difficulty.
The first phase, where the Spider Lord is in his first form, shouldn’t be too much trouble if you kite a lot to avoid getting eaten by the little spiders.
Maybe that was the case when you did it, but kiting the spiders was the least of my worries. The actual problem was his specialized Locust Swarm. Note that according to the skill description it’s supposed to go away after 10 seconds. He, on the other hand, had two of them up at all times, they stayed until they were killed, and killing those things was no walk in the park. Two of these heal him for 3% every hit pulse and continually own the NPCs to boot. The NPCs are glitched too so they are permanently resurrecting each other. For some reason only one would ever respawn with me, and half the time it wasn’t until I had just about finished the swim back.
Finally I decided to ignore my NPCs and that’s when I made headway. I used my bow to drop AoE fire and just kited him and the hatchlings through that while hoping for my NPCs to draw the locusts away. From time to time my NPCs would heal enough to start beating on him, and that’s when I would temporarily make progress. When the locusts caught up to me I died pretty quickly, but I used the ever re-spawning hatchlings to mitigate that. I constantly kept AoE fire on them so every time I went down there was at least one hatchling that was over half way to dying. Whenever I went down I found one like that and took it down ASAP to rally.
It’s his second form that’s troublesome- once he becomes a spider, he’ll start doing this nasty attack where he’ll pull you to him and immobilize you.
For me this is where the fight devolved into the typical story boss faceroll because he stopped spawning those locusts.
You will either want to dodge this pull or bring a condition remover to escape the immobilize ASAP
This is sage advice for almost any boss that immobilizes. You know that something nasty’s about to come when that happens.
…why? What purpose did this serve? OP has probably defeated the boss by now.
I agree that the first build is much better. Ferocity is really meh after the patch. 100 power adds a lot more dmg than a few %crit dmg does, and it applies it to non crits as well.

Theyre actual weapons. They were rewarded for completing the WvW season 2 meta achievement and cost 300 tickets. If you want one youll have to wait until season 3 when they return
I think the new d/p build is 6/2/0/0/6 with panic strike. Turrets are so easy. You have a SB swap for a reason :P use it!
This isn’t really a bug, but rather an interesting mechanic with how insta revive skills and poison interact. War banner doesn’t actually revive, it heals for a set amount. This is essentially the same thing as a revive, however if the downed person is low on health and poisoned it won’t actually fully revive them. Hope that helps!

Ele is even squishier than thief and takes even more skill to play effectively than anything. Probably not a very good second choice
First off would be to go full zerker. You’re kidding yourself if you think that extra vitality is helping you at all. Second would be to get a sigil of strength on the greatsword. And regarding FGJ, its actually 6 stacks of might for the group, and 3 stacks for you. This is because the shout itself gives everyone 3 might, but since you also get 3 might it shares that with everyone resulting in 6 might. Lastly, get some strength runes. Yes, they’re expensive, but they really are the bet option

Any ideas on how to update that build for current day? It’s set on WvW mode so it’s not exactly clear what to pick for PvP.
He also uses a Sigil of Corruption for condi stacks and only has one sigil on the 2 handed staff. Finally, there are no Perplexity runes to choose from for PvP.

Spamming pistol whip and blackpowder eh? Both of which cost 6 initiative in spvp. A thiefs standard ini pool is 12. So 2 pistol whips. Dat spam too OP. meanwhile for the next 5 seconds the thief can do absolutely nothing while you wail on him because he has no initiative
