Unfortunately, soloQ remains a no go for those who can’t stand Skyhammer.
Queue solo in team queue. Bam! Mind blown
D/d ele is somewhat like DPS guard. I think its a pretty even matchup
Thanks for the great replies. Do most people just accept normal running speed? Is fleet shadow worthwhile?
Most people will use signet of shadows with shadow step and shadow refuge. However one really awesome roaming partner for this build is a hammer+Sw/Wh warrior with healing shouts. In that case the lot provide swiftness so you can drop the signet for blinding powder (which also stealthed everyone around you). Somewhat off topic but i went on a roaming spree as a d/p thief with this type of warrior and a d/d aurashare ele. We were literally unkilkable for hours, and we destroyed everyone in our path, even going against twice our numbers. We had no team speak or voice comm or anything. This mix just synergizes so extremely well together. So if you roam with friends try that out.
I used to like D/P but after trying the standard 2/6/0/0/6 s/d build into spvp i really love s/d now. I love being able to just jump in and interrupt with steal and burst someone down from full.
D/D is viable for spvp again. And actually reall good. It kittens on thieves especially
I get wrecked by good thieves though !
Wat. D/D has so much PBAoE its thieves worst nightmare
d/d eles should kind of mostly beat thiefs , maybe u arent using celestial amu?
Of course I am. But talented boon stealing thieves often beat me 1v1. I am not very experienced though, so maybe with more training I would learn how to beat them. The thing is duel versus thieves don’t usually last long, so I would have to be a quick learner
!
Try dueling an ele as a thief. Could help you pick up some tricks
Stop playing zergs hotjoins
Wait, your complaining about being focused by 3 full zerkers? What did you think would happen?
Guardians are 3rd for DPS i believe, after elementalists and thieves
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE
So you think a dps guardian could out-dps a dps warrior? Really?
Warriors have much worse DPS than everyone seems to think. Just because you can get massive 100b numbers doesn’t mean its good DPS because its channeled over 3seconds.
Don’t be offended these are just comments, and also bear in mind I’ve been using the build for about an hour, but it’s so weak damage wise….sure it takes a lot to kill me but the power is so low, maybe best for wvw where i can use food instead of pvp.
Well dont be offended, but thats not the build having trouble with dmg
Well first off that trait has a 90 second ICD. Several professions can remove boons, and necromancers can corrupt boons into conditions

Dont use nades from 1500 range, spam em on your feet

However its also worth noting this only affects warriors with the fast hands trait, as normal weapon swapping is the same CD on these sigils anyway
Maybe a necro? Or engineer? Both of those are the strongest condition(DoT) classes. For specific builds youll have to ask on the profession forums
You have 5 character slots. Why not just make a mesmer with one of your 4 remaining slots and see how it goes?
I think i know how to do it. Ill have to get in game to see for sure though. Cancel?
im a guy.. im not a fan of pine-cones on a stick that shoots rainbows. lmao
But a greatsword that shows a window into the endless void of space, oh yea sign me up for one of those.
Bet you don’t play a mesmer because of purple butterflies aren’t manly.
Thats one of the things that turns me off of mesmer. That and theyre super slow
You can’t join one of the dozens of open duel servers?
Alrighty thank you
My main is a thief. Previously my main was an engi, and then a warrior, but then i fell in love with my evasive rogue. I’ve always liked the stealthy/sneaky classes in games, and i love how your main defense is to not get hit (cus when you do, ouch!). I also LOVE the mobility of a thief. You can port around the map so fast literally nothing can catch up or escape from you. Hey im over here! Nope, now in here. Its so much fun, especially against other melee as they really will be lucky to ever hit you. Ive never really planned on making a legendary as i dont really like any of them. Currently i use a s/d build with Jormag’s Breath and Corrupted shard which IMHO look much better than bolt an incinerator
Anyone know some good eles who stream consistently?
Pack runes are really good as well.
I have a question… if you’re leveling and you’re going to be upgrading your weapon a few times, but want to use the Bloodlust sigil, can you get it out every time if you salvage with a BL salvage kit?
You can, but the minor sigil only costs like 50 copper, and the major a couple silver. Its not worth it to use a BLSK on low level stuff
Virtues 1 >> Radiance 6
That’s very debatable, especially with 2 1handers
First off, welcome to GW2! Here are some basics you should learn. Incoming wall of text.
Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
In addition, GW2 is highly unlike WoW in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
All classes #1-5 skills are affected by your weapon choice, with main hand weapons affecting #1-3 and offhand are your 4-5 skills. Twohanders use all #1-5. All classes also have their own heal skills, which is the #6 slot. All classes also have 3 utility skills, which are the 7-9 slots. These youll unlock as you level up, the first at lvl5, then lvl 10, and the last one at lvl 20. Lastly, every profession has an elite slot. These are typically very powerful, game changing skills and as such have large cooldowns. Youll unlock this at lvl 30. In these slots youll put skills that youve unlocked via skill points. Dont worry about spending them incorrectly, as by the time you get to lvl 80 youll have more than enough points for every single skill. If not, skill points are still extremely easy to get at lvl 80.
Triple or dual signets are the best for leveling, btw. Assassins signet, signet of agility, and signet of shadows. For the most part leave them just as passive buffs, but be aware of what they do in case you get in a pinch. For example if you run out of endurance and need to dodge that ettins hammer, you can pop signet of shadows and blind his attack so that it misses. if you get a nasty, long lasting condition on you (aka bleed, poison, burning, and others) you can use signet of agility to remove 1 condition, as well as refilling all your endurance. Shadow refuge is also extremely helpful while leveling, allowing you to grab some tougher skill points guarded by a veteran or champion with absolutely 0 combat. Its also a great skill to reset a bit and refresh yourself.
As for weapons, sword+pistol is easily the best for leveling. You can get up on mobs with Sw #2 and then drop black powder, your #5 skill so that theyll miss almost every single attack and you can just autoattack them down. If there are multiple mobs or ranged mobs, use LoS to pull them behind a corner and do the same thing. The #3 skill, pistol whip, also evades any incoming attacks for the duration of the second part of the skill. If also advise using mighty gear at lvls 1-26, strong at 26-65, and berserkers at lvl 65-80. Update your gear every 10 levels or so by buying green quality gear from the Trading post, with the prefixes i described.
Why is this a thread?
Warrior is easier to play, but guardian is much better for your group
Use shake it off, FGJ, and fear me with healing shouts in tactics
The dagger or the sword. I cant decide :/ it sucks i play s/d thief so i need both for a matching set :’(
For PVE full zerk/scholar runes with a party that can keep up 25 might 6/6/0/0/2 axe/Ma camping axe auto is best.
PVE, spvp, wvw(solo, small group (2-9), zergs))??
Dont use traveler. Use warriors sprint or signet mastery with SoR.
Here’s a really balanced build i just came up with. Basically perma fury and swiftness with pack runes and SoR. It won’t be optimal for PVE but itll be pretty solid, just dont join any of the zerk only or exp only groups. And its awesome for pvp/WvW. In spvp just use a zerker amulet
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
Well that is strange
Yes, im pretty sure utility dmg is the same as weapon skill dmg. I believe utility power is the same thing as weapon strength. An easy way to test this would be using utilities with ascended weapons, then with exotics and see if the dmg changes
Remind me how many turreteers were used in the most recent tournament, ToL. Oh yeah…
None of this is even remotely likely. Whenever these threads pop up about new skills or weapons theres almost 0 chance theyll ever be implemented. Just have fun with it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates
Those are your friends. There was a really big patch on the 15th, thats where id start
All the classes can be fun and good in pvp. Its just a matter of difficulty learning and how much time you put in
How about this.
Passive: 25% move speed always on
Active: teleport to your target and chill (4s) (60 sec CD)
The catch is you would only get this virtue by going 4 in virtues and selecting it as your master trait. That way every guardian doesn’t have 25% move speed automatically with no investment, but its still there for those who want it
Not a chance … 25% speed increase for nothing. Even the professions that get speed increase have to make a choice to get it. Not even sure the Active is reasonable for a Virtue.
…hence the requirement of 4 in virtues. Reading is OP
Completing the meta achievement is enough to get you the tickets.
They appear in a pop-up chest in the bottom right corner of the screen. If you haven’t already try switching zones, mine didn’t appear when I first logged in but did appear when I switched to a new zone.
Hmmm may i know what do you mean by new zone?
Loading into a different map. Aka being in LA, and then way pointing into kessex hills or something
Whatever the number on the tooltip says
For leveling just Stack power with bombs and a rifle. Buy a sigil of bloodlust for your rifle and use all strong gear (power precision). First 2 trait points go into tools for speedy kits, then just dump them all into explosives/firearms, taking as many dmg modifiers as possible. Rocket boots are good as they really help get around the map quicker. Your 3rd utility is up to you. Bomb kit #4 also practically makes you invincible against melee.
To answer your question, turrets are horrible outside of a turreteer build in spvp. Gadgets are mostly useless but some do fill a niche purpose. Elixirs are only good with an HGH build, but when trained into are really good. Most builds use 2-3kits, and those are our best utilities
You don’t block two attacks, you block an infinite amount of attacks over 2 sec. Usually the dmg you block will be more than you healed with resolve, as well as it having a shorter cooldown and synergizes well with 5 valor. By how do you find the DPS im unsure what you mean? And yes it’s quite tanky, 3k armor is a lot, as well as every meditation heals you for 2k, plus all your blocks, blind, invuln
Yes, you must have your stacking weapon equipped at all times
They need a TP as well

Basically anything with meditations, mostly zerker gear, and a GS, Sw, hammer, scepter, or focus
