This build is tried and true. Practice might stacking off your bow. I commonly sit at 10 stacks (without SoR) thanks to arcing arrow and savage leap. 30 arms may seem weird at first, however it does get you that extra condi dmg, and furious is an amazing trait. You can literally spam your f1s left and right
Why would you waste your sigils for a couple extra stats anyway? I imagine its just like sigils as well. for example, you can’t equip 2 of the same sigil, so i bet they made it you can’t equip 2 of the same orb either

I think Pack runes are viable, though there are better options out there. I don’t care about extra swiftness here and there if I’ll do a lot more damage. As I said multiple times already, you have staff for mobility as well as blink.

D/d is really bad in spvp. D/p is essentially the same thing, but with better utility and flow. The standard d/p build is 10/30/0/0/30 with a berserkers amulet, strength/pack runes, sigil of bloodlust/air/strength/fire/energy with HiS, shadow refuge, infil sig, and shadow step. Be aware tho this is fairly difficult to play well, since someone just farting on you will kill you. In fact most of the time youll actually be using your shortbow. As a thief, you shouldn’t really be focusing on 1v1s, but rather on forcing outnumbered fights, downing the people at half health who are trying to escape team fights, using your many interrupts to prevent resses/stomps, and using your insane mobility with shortbow to fly around the map deccapping points
Just before S1 ANET changed the league format (#s for Gold/Silver/Bronze)…Prior to S2 they changed the scoring format and forgot about evaluating how it affects leagues regarding the previous change.
Perhaps the best way would have been eliminating Gold/Silver/Bronze and just made the tourny 9 weeks of swiss style scoring through all servers.
Except then you have Bronze league going up against JQ and TC. There’s no way the bronze servers would even get close to winning, not because theyre less skilled, but because coverage
How do runes of the pack compare?
Im just curious, what makes something bad at bronze roaming, but say, good at silver or gold roaming? Is there really that big a difference in leagues?
Not getting a 50% dmg boost on your main dmg source for just 2 trait points is bad
Well first off, bulls charge is useless on a condi build. Second, HS and adrenal health scale absolutely horrendously with healing power. For example with 1200 healing power HS only increases by ~50hps. If you do want to use apothecary, you absolutely need to use shouts heal as the GM in the tactics line. However, this really limits the rest of your traits since you need at least 2 in arms for deep cuts and 4 in defense for adrenal/cleansing ire. That leaves you with 2 points left to spend, meaning you can’t get fast hands, one if the best traits a warrior has to offer. On top of that, you won’t have stability or any of the stances a warrior is famous for, youll just have a bunch of mediocre utilities, especially for a condi build. In general id stay away from apothecary and just go full dire id you want a condi tank
I’ve fought a total of 1 p/d thief, and that was months ago on my warrior. Eventually i just decided to run away because the fight was going no where. Maybe its just your server/time of day?

Well spvp doesn’t have dire anyway so rabid is the only choice
So you use a hybrid build, not a pure condi. I use a pure condi. Obviously full dire will suck with a hybrid. Arcing arrow and final thrust (even above 50%) are more than enough to get DS eles below that 85% threshold

Question: Only thing you get from precision is a chance to proc a 6 second bleed from Precise Strikes?
How about:
1. every time you crit, your damage is increased by 50% (base damage for a crit)
2. Sigil of Earth. Another bleed on a 2 second cooldown
3. Sigil of Torment – another layer of conditionsThere are numerous nice choices for sigils that proc on crits.
I am trying to find the right combination of EQ by including Rampager for some pieces…an extra layer of damage. The better player you are the more pieces you can add.
50% of 0 is still 0. Since you have no power then that doesn’t do anything for you. Sigil of earth is nullified by sigil of geomancy. Sigil of torment is ok, but then you give up either corruption or doom for it.
Wow, I have so much problems with Mesmer, I can hardly count thieves as a hard counter to Mes, yet everyone says they are. But if you’re telling me to bring a set like SA : x/D into PvP you’ve got another thing coming to you. It’s such a selfish build to be running in pvp. Assuming this isn’t for PvP, can one show me videos of this high level thief play vs. a good mesmer? Outside of chain CnD’ing, I feel like there’s nothing I can do against them.
This is not a reply of “You guys don’t know wtf you’re talking about”, rather, I’m trying to L2P because Mesmers, Necros, and Engies give me the MOST problems. Wth am I doing wrong?
I have the same issues. Those classes always give me trouble
I pretty much always use basilisk venom. I thought daggerstorm was cool and really helpful at first, but its too situational. It also often kills me as im getting really low on health, but cant stealth up to regen. But a 1.5 sec stun every 45sec is always useful regardless of the situation. Especially now that my build is a bit more glassier. I never use thieves guild. Maybe i should try it, but they don’t seem to do a lot and im very attached to my basi venom now
Full dire. Because the only thing you get from precision is a chance to proc a measly 6 second bleed from the minor trait in arms. On top if that, you already have 23% crit chance with full dire, and 33% with a sword. You also have high fury uptime with SoR, this making it 53%.

It is unfair there is no reward if one team gets totally outplayed.
Its seriously amazing that your whole team couldnt kill a single person (even 5v1) or cap a single point (even when you just start the match, you couldn’t cap close) on top of that, you couldn’t even cap or finish a single secondary objective. No way should you get rewarded for that
14. Actually the reward track boxes in spvp are affected by MF. This was done so that pvpers would actually give a hoot about all the luck they get

The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.

The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
All classes #1-5 skills are affected by your weapon choice, with main hand weapons affecting #1-3 and offhand are your 4-5 skills. Twohanders use all #1-5. All classes also have their own heal skills, which is the #6 slot. All classes also have 3 utility skills, which are the 7-9 slots. These youll unlock as you level up, the first at lvl5, then lvl 10, and the last one at lvl 20. Lastly, every profession has an elite slot. These are typically very powerful, game changing skills and as such have large cooldowns. Youll unlock this at lvl 30. In these slots youll put skills that youve unlocked via skill points. Dont worry about spending them incorrectly, as by the time you get to lvl 80 youll have more than enough points for every single skill. If not, skill points are still extremely easy to get at lvl 80.
Triple or dual signets are the best for leveling, btw. Assassins signet, signet of agility, and signet of shadows. For the most part leave them just as passive buffs, but be aware of what they do in case you get in a pinch. For example if you run out of endurance and need to dodge that ettins hammer, you can pop signet of shadows and blind his attack so that it misses. if you get a nasty, long lasting condition on you (aka bleed, poison, burning, and others) you can use signet of agility to remove 1 condition, as well as refilling all your endurance. Shadow refuge is also extremely helpful while leveling, allowing you to grab some tougher skill points guarded by a veteran or champion with absolutely 0 combat. Its also a great skill to reset a bit and refresh yourself.
As for weapons, sword+pistol is easily the best for leveling. You can get up on mobs with Sw #2 and then drop black powder, your #5 skill so that theyll miss almost every single attack and you can just autoattack them down. If there are multiple mobs or ranged mobs, use LoS to pull them behind a corner and do the same thing. The #3 skill, pistol whip, also evades any incoming attacks for the duration of the second part of the skill. If also advise using mighty gear at lvls 1-26, strong at 26-65, and berserkers at lvl 65-80. Update your gear every 10 levels or so by buying green quality gear from the Trading post, with the prefixes i described.
I went into Mists to test this out. 6/6/0/0/2 for funzies, on Hidden Killer. CnD on Med armor, Backstab -> 6.8k. OK. CnD on same Med Armor, 1-> f1 to Backstab, still 6.8k. Didn’t make much of a difference. Am I doing it wrong?
CnD→BS→ as backstab is casting (1/4 second window) hit steal

I would reccomend elementalist
D/P with strength runes, power of inertia, at least 25 in SA, and strength/air sigils is still very powerful for roaming. With these i can basically sit at 10-15+ stacks of might.
Depends if you use hidden killer or not. I personally have 45%, but anywhere from 40-50% with HK is fine imo. I also take furious retaliation so i get that bonus crit chance when in HS spam mode.
Does initial strike (major trait in trickery) work with your 1-3 skills, or is it just 1-2? Im thinking for pistol whip mainly
Im working on getting ascended armor for my thief, and looking on the wiki page i need a lot more Dragonite and other mats then i initially thought. Bloodstone and empyrael fragments are no problem, but as a primarily WvW player i have almost no Dragonite. So what would be some of the best ways to farm this?

Its not a bug, so it will never be “patched”. If your testing this, make sure its on the Sam enemy, same might/bloodlust stacks, same gear/traits.
^ This type of build is actually really fun with a thief, just have them drop a shadow refuge on you. Ninja sniper mode! If you wanted you could even time backstab and killshot to hit at the same time
Those people are idiots and i really suggest never taking advice from them again. There’s a reason almost every single thief build (and i do mean every) uses a shortbows as an off-swap. That said it is more of a utility weapon, something you swap to only when you really need it,, or for bigger groups.
Here is a pure shortbow build i put together. You want to swap bows on cooldown to get initiative, extra dodges, and life stealing. You’ve also got insane initiative regen so you can spam cluster bombs for days

only mobs i know of that are resistant to blind are dredge.

Really the only thing you can do is p/p HGH with all elixirs or rifle HGH/SD. Even those tho are stronger with kits. Is there a particular reason you don’t like kits?

Random question, does the heal from defiant stance proc off of getting hit with retal? If so there could actually be a place for offhand axe.
Venom share is pretty much it, and it pigeonholes you into running 6/x/6/x/x with the last two points wherever. It also pigeonholes you into taking all venoms as utilities, which means you can’t take any of the tricks a regular thief would have like shadow step and shadow refuge. You’re also stuck with bad self healing and no stun break.
Can’t seem to do much against brainless condition spammers T_T
