It works ok 1v1. Id almost always rather use s/d tho
Sounds fun…Isn’t there some runes that also give quickness.
Yeah there’s a sigil too. But the runes are absolute garbage and the sigil is ok at best
At lvl 26 you can get armor with both power and crit. At lvl 65 you can get armor with power, crit, and crit dmg. For leveling using all signets with the deep strikes trait in arms is really good. Greatsword and either longbow or axe are the best weapons for leveling
There is no “best” only best at certain things.
heres my lovely thief. tried to make her look an actual thief
Nothing says thief more than massive glowing blue daggers
After ferocity you can’t really min/max stats anymore.
30/30/0/0/10 has stepped ahead, at least for single target fights with Revealed Training being added as a trait.
Basically, you’ll want to run S/P for trash (sword cleaves, pistol whip cleaves hard, and you can spam a blind field that trivializes anything that’s not a champion or greater) and D/D for single target fights (highest single target DPS).
Below is a great guide for meta PvE:

The thief specific forums can help a lot more with this
Well it is a sigil, be it underwater or on land. So check again
That build is good, but only for pvp yes. And nothing has changed from the patch
Its a sigil on one of your weapons. Each time you kill something you get one stack. There are also sigils that work the same way but with power (bloodlust), precision (perception), and toughness (momentum).
If they add an offhand burst, then 2handers need two burst skills as well
To be fair its always been pretty dead :/
First off, welcome to GW2! Heres a fairly generic post that i copy/paste on to every new player thread, with some basics you should learn. Incoming wall of text.
Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot. You may be somewhat used to this from your old game, since you said you try to ki things before they kill you. The current meta for PVE is to use full dmg gear an traits and wipe out mobs and bosses as quickly as possible, using active defense to avoid dying. If you like that then this game is definitely for you.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
In addition, GW2 is highly unlike WoW in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
Also just some screens of my ele and guard. Asura master race :P

As for class/race, its true race has basically no effect on anything other than looks and your personal story. So just choose what you like the look/feel of most. As for class, i would also suggest either a dagger/dagger ele or a guardian. Although eles are light armor there are at least a few sets that can make you look knight like.
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
That was cool. I have stumbled upon people doing this with regular mesmer clones in an spvp server but the tornado and lich thing were way cool
Wat
Here’s mine

2k condi dmg before stacks, 3k armor, and a ranger with 24k health? Not to mention very high protection uptime, and the evade spam. Your spider can put out 12 seconds of immobilize, forcing people to sit through your entire bonfire and allowing you to quickly put on your condi burst.
Perma weakness from axe 3, bark skin, and protect me combined with your high passive defenses make it impossible for any power build to kill you. Empathatic bond and signet of renewal make it impossible for any condi build to kill. Combine this all with your stupid high amount of condition dmg and youve got an extremely powerful roaming/1vX build.
To answer your questions, yes just straight up condi dmg is often more than enough to kill people. Carrion is very meh unless your going for a kind of hybrid ish approach but even then its meh. The 2 common condi sets are rabid and dire. People use rabid if they have lots of conditions that will proc on critical hits, for example the adept trait in skirmishing, or incendiary powder for engis. If you don’t have many procs like that then yeah dire is by far better
It’s for PvP. On the videos I saw it go for 2k+ (x4 ), which made me curious on how powerful it could be. Are there any good builds you can reccomend for this?
To get it that high tho you need to be full berserker, in which case a thief or any class really simply farting on you will down you. Thats why its not that viable
Honestly I don’t find thieves too bad with accelerant packed turrets and gear shield. There have been countless times where I have been saved by the turret knock backs and the block can stop their backstabs and whatnot. Utility goggles can also make you immune to their blinds. Thieves are a tough fight but there are ways to deal with them. It is a matter of catching them before they catch you.
And what happens after you use up your 20 sec CD block? You get oneshot yes for being full zerker
Asura cus OP.
Yeah based off what you said i would also suggest a staff or scepter/focus ele. If also suggest reading this

Ahh thank for comment. I dont use Black Powder so i can blind with Pistol and Combo Skill. but you true i’m wait for 15+ sec for capture when i’m using Shadow Refuge. This Video my first video. I just wanted to show the style of play. My guess need Shadow Refuge for escape 3+v1 fights and boss steal in Forest Nih. map.
Black powder is the #5 for pistol offhand so you do have it. Im not saying to get rid of shadow refuge, im just saying you probably shouldn’t use it to stomp 1v1 on a point

Maybe it was too slow and tanky because of build?…
For sure. Although guardians still are kinda slow regardless. Unless you use traveler/speed runes
Chill/cripple access
The utility skill isn’t actually a skill and is just really bad wording on anets part. Other professions with a quickness utility skill also have some kind of downside to them, ie warriors frenzy increases dmg, taken by 25%, thieves haste uses all your endurance and stops it from replenishing, or rangers quickening zephyr reduces all healing by 25%. When it says random utility skill it actually means random debuff
Evasion thief is very effective, as is zerker guardian
foosnark ill probably use your guide cause it has all traits i must use and see how it goes..ill probably though take first speedy kits cause i want utility as much as possible ..
My advice would be to use a bomb build for AoE and tagging lots of mobs, big group events, certain skill challenges, and use a SD build for just running around doing map completion
Dont use melandru, use antitoxin if you want the -condi duration
we should like make that paragraph a sticky i swear
There are lots of things i wish were stickied :/
If the whole ferocity thing is your main issue, there are very simple work arounds
Wish it’d be easier to find the Order you joined. I’m always skipping around all my characters finding their Order.
Would it not make sense to put an Order icon on your Hero main menu?!
Its is on the main menu. One of your account medals
OP means they beat me.
Stack power with bombs and a rifle. Buy a sigil of bloodlust for your rifle and use all strong gear (power precision). First 2 trait points go into tools for speedy kits, then just dump them all into explosives/firearms, taking as many dmg modifiers as possible. Rocket boots are good as they really help get around the map quicker. Your 3rd utility is up to you. Bomb kit #4 also practically makes you invincible against melee

Asura. Duh.
Good. Dungeons runes are trash.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Roaming-2handed-Meditation-build
For PVE tho you should switch utilities an traits found in obals hammer build guide. Since you can now switch traits anywhere, and for free its not a big deal
Solid build. Some advice, dont use shadow refuge to stomp when your attacking a point the enemy holds, as you then have to wait 15+ seconds before you can even start capping the node. For all classes except mesmers, thieves and eles just dropping black powder will do the trick
Its not that hard. Backstab has a 1/4 sec cast time. If you use mug as its casting you get a revealed training backstab. But you do have to be quick.
2791 power (no might)
3491 power with 20stacks of mightup to 65% damage modifiers when target is under 50%
if you want pure burst and gtfo then here you go.
You do realize that revealed training doesn’t affect stab, right?
And that strength runes are only decent if you’re taking hits, which is likely a really bad idea if you’re planning on GC signet burst, otherwise making scholars more useful for burst damage.
And that Flanking Strikes causes DPS losses versus Thrill of the Crime due to CnD crits from fury and the might. Thrill also lets you pop your signet of shadows while not losing mobility. You’re much better off with Residual venoms to get the stab more reliably since you’re not using mug to get the stun on steal for a reposition.
With mug backstab can actually benefit from revealed training
Its just a tooltip bug
For WvW
For PVE tho i think youre out of luck

By bars do you mean adding additional skill bars for skills and such? For example in WoW you could add skill bars all over the screen. It doesn’t work like that here. All classes #1-5 skills are affected by your weapon choice, with main hand weapons affecting #1-3 and offhand are your 4-5 skills. Twohanders use all #1-5. All classes also have their own heal skills, which is the #6 slot. All classes also have 3 utility skills, which are the 7-9 slots. These youll unlock as you level up, the first at lvl5, then lvl 10, and the last one at lvl 20. Lastly, every profession has an elite slot. These are typically very powerful, game changing skills and as such have large cooldowns. Youll unlock this at lvl 30. In these slots youll put skills that youve unlocked via skill points. Dont worry about spending them incorrectly, as by the time you get to lvl 80 youll have more than enough points for every single skill. If not, skill points are still extremely easy to get at lvl 80.
Triple or dual signets are the best for leveling, btw. Assassins signet, signet of agility, and signet of shadows. For the most part leave them just as passive buffs, but be aware of what they do in case you get in a pinch. For example if you run out of endurance and need to dodge that ettins hammer, you can pop signet of shadows and blind his attack so that it misses. if you get a nasty, long lasting condition on you (aka bleed, poison, burning, and others) you can use signet of agility to remove 1 condition, as well as refilling all your endurance. Shadow refuge is also extremely helpful while leveling, allowing you to grab some tougher skill points guarded by a veteran or champion with absolutely 0 combat. Its also a great skill to reset a bit and refresh yourself.
As for weapons, sword+pistol is easily the best for leveling. You can get up on mobs with Sw #2 and then drop black powder, your #5 skill so that theyll miss almost every single attack and you can just autoattack them down. If there are multiple mobs or ranged mobs, use LoS to pull them behind a corner and do the same thing. The #3 skill, pistol whip, also evades any incoming attacks for the duration of the second part of the skill. If also advise using mighty gear at lvls 1-26, strong at 26-65, and berserkers at lvl 65-80. Update your gear every 10 levels or so by buying green quality gear from the Trading post, with the prefixes i described.
There are two types of pvp in this game, spvp and WvW. Spvp is equalized, WvW is not. Id actually suggest staying away from pvp until at leat lvl 60, so you can understand the basics of avoiding dmg rather than healing it up.
Battle roar? You mean For Great Justice?
“Viable” for what? Anything PVE related no. Except massive world boss/living story zergs.
In my signature
GS/axe and GS/hammer also are great at 1vX. Just not so much vs thieves
The reason people like strength is mostly for the might duration and stacking might from other sources. So your EP ratios arent really fair at all. And guardians need traveler or speed runes, so pack are meh as they require you getting hit (thus reducing your speed) to proc the swiftness
