Lol. You don’t take this rune for the proc effects. You take it for the bleed duration. Makes it super easy to get 100% duration on your bleeds, which rocks for thieves, necros, and warriors. So no, perplexity isn’t the best condi rune set, not even by a long shot.

As the OP, yes this works very well in any solo or small group (2-9ish) setting.and here’s what you would gain and lose by using soldiers

+150 power
+2k health
-150ferocity
-150 toughness

It seems like a valid option to me. Do make sure you use all zerker weapons and trinkets tho, as without these you just wont do enough dmg. However there are some things you should change than what i had in the OP. first off use omnom berry ghosts/pies for food as they pack quite a bit of dmg and sustain. Second would be to use master maintenance oils, as 35% crit chance isn’t quite enough.

First off, the life steal on crit food is really awesome for WvW, especially with how fast thief attacks are. The food only has a 1sec ICD and steals 354 health each time it procs. So it essentially gives a 708 health difference everytime it procs. No other food can add that much dmg or survivability, especially in the same package. Also critical haste is a very meh trait unless your using Sw/p as it greatly speeds up the channel of pistol whip. But with d/p theres no real channeled ability so quickness doesnt do a whole lot. Executioner is an awesome. Trait for sword and nonstealth builds, however any dagger build is gonna use hidden killer as it absolutely SUCKS if backstab doesn’t crit. You can try executioner yourself, but then try hidden killer. Youll notice a significant increase in dmg even when theyre below 50%.

Also i switched around some of the armor and trinkets. If the stuff you linked is all you currently have thats totally fine, this is just what youll want to shoot for in the long run. Strength runes are extremely expensive, but man do they add so much dmg! You can sit at 10-15+ stacks of might permanently with these things which really adds a kick to your dmg.

I main both warrior and thief and i love both of em. All the other classes are meh to me, but this isn’t really strange to me considering i played both a warrior and rogue in WoW. Why not have both? If you really must choose one, use whichever one you feel like playing the most. Then if you end up wanting to play the other one eventually, no buggy just logout and go to town.

Every legendary has a specific gift required to make that legendary ie. gift of twilight, gift of lightning, etc. you need 500 of a specifics dungeon token to make that gift.

To go along with the stealth stomp, with d/p you don’t actually need to stealth up you can just black powder and everything will miss. You do need to stealth however only for mesmers, because they require a target for their clone and phantasms. To go along with what Tachii said, you can also use the mesmer stolen ability to stomp everything but thieves, eles, and mesmers since it grants stability. If you want an example of how this works, watch a few of yishis videos on youtube

The problem with longbow is youll never be able to do the “run away for defense” thing which is very important for WvW. You won’t always be fighting smaller zergs than you, eventually your gonna find a much bigger Zerg which youll have to run from

I agree, it could use a bit of a buff.
Stun break would be cool, but keep the cast time. Would turn it into a great counter to any combo that starts with a stun.
The base heal is just too abysmal, personally I feel that if they’re to change anything, it would be this.
Cooldown could maybe go down to 30 seconds, but I feel it’s the thing that is least viable for a change. First because of the synergy with stance traits. Second because I feel they shouldn’t increase the availability of invincibility effects.
Duration would do well to be increased to 4 seconds(base). 3 seconds is just too small a frame to work with on a skill that has such high cooldown and such low payoff when it fails (which is particularly bad considering this is our heal skill we’re talking about). Do note, I’m distinguishing between availability and uptime, thus the reason I find duration increase ok, but cooldown decrease not.

Obviously I’m only proposing ONE of the above would be changed.

I was looking for a Sword build but couldn’t really find one (a smart man might have taken that as a sign). It seems that P/D is all the rage right now.

Dagger does better because it has much higher burst dmg, which downs people much better, sending everyone into a frenzy/panic, making it pretty easy to clean up once you down that first guy. D/P also has that AoE blind field which helps insanely. Most dagger builds also trait heavily into shadow arts which vastly increases your survivability and sustain. Sword builds dont have that option.

P/D is pretty popular, and effective, but its the most boring, easiest thing to play in the whole game. If you do end up with d/p or d/d (harder than d/p but still ok) then make sure you know stomping techniques like shadow step, BP, CnD, using steal for thieves, etc as thats a huge part of fighting multiples, getting the first guy all the way defeated before his friends can Rez him. If you need me to elaborate a bit in that, just let me know

Whats more important? defense or vitality in wvw. i have a set of zerker gear, knight gear, soldier gear, and Valkyrie gear. i was thinking of using either knights armor or valkyrie with zerker weapons and traits.

It largely depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you wanna be able to actually kill people and deal dmg, or do you wanna be the guy thats impossible to kill? For smaller groups id recommend going more on the damagy side, but anything 15-20+ id reccomend going full on tank

Well you can go tankier with it as well, just at the cost of dmg and earthshaker spam.

That build uses a sword :/ did you even look at it? Any decent build is gonna have a hammer as the AoE stun is invaluable. The sword is there for mobility and finishing with final thrust. The war horn is to buff your group

Signet of malice is horrible for anything PVP related. S/D is also one of the harder to play sets for thieves, and isn’t as great at dealing with multiple opponents (which is the main thing in solo wvw) as a dagger build. Thats not to say you cant kil multiple people at once, its just a lot harder. You also seem to be using dagger traits but with a sword. Yes you can use CnD to go into stealth with s/d but you don’t typically do that very often unless its to escape a fight, buy some time, or get a clutch interrupt. Sword builds will typically trait deep into acrobatics or trickery (or both) to focus more on the evasion/control aspect. Also, that build is squish squish. One missed evade and your gone. So overall id say no, its not that great.

But my suggestion is to just work overtime, gems to gold in a minimum wage job is 60g/hr.

People have to buy food, clothes, pay bills and stuff too ya know. Many also have lives outside of work and videogames so working overtime isn’t an option

I think a shortened season with win move up lose move down would suffice. This way T6 servers aren’t facing T1 servers and while it have some ambiguity in the results they would be pretty minor by comparison to the current system.

Do you understand how this system works?? How in God’s name would Bronze be facing Gold? It is (more or less) winner move up, loser move down….So you are assuming the mighty Bronze servers full of tumble weeds and uplevels are going to move through Bronze, then Silver, then end up at Gold???

So what happens the first few weeks as its sorting itself out?

Signet of malice is pretty bad for anything but PVE. You also have no stun breaks or condi clear other than sword #2. This way you get pain response at 75% HP and shadow step. That said Sw/p isn’t very good for WvW roaming. You’re much better off with D/P SA

A SD build is basically a thief without stealth or blinds

First off, welcome to GW2! Here are some basics you should learn. Incoming wall of text.
Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.

In addition, GW2 is highly unlike WoW in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
All classes #1-5 skills are affected by your weapon choice, with main hand weapons affecting #1-3 and offhand are your 4-5 skills. Twohanders use all #1-5. All classes also have their own heal skills, which is the #6 slot. All classes also have 3 utility skills, which are the 7-9 slots. These youll unlock as you level up, the first at lvl5, then lvl 10, and the last one at lvl 20. Lastly, every profession has an elite slot. These are typically very powerful, game changing skills and as such have large cooldowns. Youll unlock this at lvl 30. In these slots youll put skills that youve unlocked via skill points. Dont worry about spending them incorrectly, as by the time you get to lvl 80 youll have more than enough points for every single skill. If not, skill points are still extremely easy to get at lvl 80.
Triple or dual signets are the best for leveling, btw. Assassins signet, signet of agility, and signet of shadows. For the most part leave them just as passive buffs, but be aware of what they do in case you get in a pinch. For example if you run out of endurance and need to dodge that ettins hammer, you can pop signet of shadows and blind his attack so that it misses. if you get a nasty, long lasting condition on you (aka bleed, poison, burning, and others) you can use signet of agility to remove 1 condition, as well as refilling all your endurance. Shadow refuge is also extremely helpful while leveling, allowing you to grab some tougher skill points guarded by a veteran or champion with absolutely 0 combat. Its also a great skill to reset a bit and refresh yourself.
As for weapons, sword+pistol is easily the best for leveling. You can get up on mobs with Sw #2 and then drop black powder, your #5 skill so that theyll miss almost every single attack and you can just autoattack them down. If there are multiple mobs or ranged mobs, use LoS to pull them behind a corner and do the same thing. The #3 skill, pistol whip, also evades any incoming attacks for the duration of the second part of the skill. If also advise using mighty gear at lvls 1-26, strong at 26-65, and berserkers at lvl 65-80. Update your gear every 10 levels or so by buying green quality gear from the Trading post, with the prefixes i described.

A thief with shortbow or a ranger with either long or shortbow. Thief definitely has better AoE than ranger, however a full ranged setup is bad, regardless of weapons/class

Yeah necros are very tanky, even using a full glass cannon build. Thieves pair pretty well with them, as they provide excellent ways to escape with shadow refuge and blinding powder. On top of that, the necro is naturally very tank and can easily distract opponents so the thief is free to spam backstab all day. If your friend goes condi necro as well, youve basically got the 2 extremes of both condi and power dmg. Not many people can survive through insane condi dmg and insane power dmg, especially when theyre both happening at the same time

Being sick and work. Its a lethal combo. Feel free to add me to your friends, as id be happy to play with you when i get the chance. I also do pretty much everything, WvW, PVE, and tpvp so we can definitely find something to do together. However, dont add this account, as this is my second account i dont really use for anything but forum posting. Just add “Lyss The Shadow” the account name should be “scarydogie” plus some random numbers

Also the rotation for d/d is CnD→backstab→1 full auto chain→repeat. For Sw/p pistol whip does slightly more DPS than the auto chain, however the difference in dmg is very slight. On top of that the sword auto gives perma weakness, so that if an attack does somehow sneak through, its not going to hit hard at all. so youre better off saving your initiative to benefit from 25 in crit strikes, as well as the blind field helps your whole team stay alive. However if you do somehow get stuck in a boss fight with Sw/p pistol whip is the way to go, since bosses are basically immune to blinds. Dont just spam it tho, watch animations to get the best use of it. In case you didnt know, pistol whip evades all attacks for the second part of the skill. Signet of malice is also a pretty good choice of heal with Sw/p, due to pistol whip hitting multiple times, and healing up with crit procs and that is great when trash can’t even touch you cus theyre permablinded. Keep a shortbow on hand as well, just not as your main weapon. Cluster bomb is essentially a spammable blast finisher, which is awesome to use in fire fields to stack up might, water fields to heal everyone up, or smoke fields to skip a certain part of the dungeon (thats where smokescreen comes in)

I agree with that as well, at least in spvp ^ but in WvW i have more than enough condi clear and sustain to kill them. Shadowsteps are really helpful against engis. If they get all defensive and start spamming bombs everywhere, shadows yep in and immediately backstab, then immediately shadow step back out. The result is youve barely been scratched and they lost 6-7k health, which is nearly half their health pool

6/6/0/0/2 d/d for bosses, Sw/p for trash. Keep signet of agility at pretty much all times, other good ones are SR (for skipping) or smokescreen (for skipping or projectile reflects). Assassins signet is fairly good as well. Save the active on it for bosses <25% HP and spam heart seeker. All berserker gear, scholar runes, life steal food

Thankfully there is PvP which is more balanced and people actually want to fight. If you’re looking for solo/small group engagements I highly recommend it.

I think this is true for all servers/tiers. Ill be watching these guys in a tower and then get bored so i go take a camp. They follow me so i know theyre not afk. Ill be in the middle of taking a camp, and theyll outnumber me 5 to 1, and they still don’t even try attacking me. Whats the point of pvp if youre gonna sit behind a door all day.?

Or another one of my personal favorites, the guys who follow you all around the map, but when you turn around to engage they immediately start going the other way. Its so weird to me. Am i supposed to be just autorunning somewhere?

I wouldnt say it “shines” in those areas. But it is a lot better there than in pve

Actually dodge heals scale extremely well with healing power, almost a 1:1 ratio. With that you wanna maximize your dodges to heal up. That means vigor and energy sigils are really important

Make sure you get a few sword autos in to stack dem bleeds. Make good use of flurry as well, as its an awesome finishing tool. It pretty much has to be followed immediately by a savage leap to land tho. Also with 30 discipline i imagine youre using burst mastery? If thats the case you can combo combustive shot and immediately swap to sword to immob them while theyre sitting in your fire field.

The way i play it is really up in your face, even the bow i rarely use at >500 range unless im chasing with pindown. And you get a lot more out of fan of fire at point blank anyway, since all 3 arrows will hit. Make sure your using doom sigils, as that extra condi is invaluable. And if already you feel tanky with rabid, imagine how much more tanky youd be with an extra 5k health (almost 1/3 of our base)

Condi PU mesmers are really tough for me. Luckily you can outrun them extremely easy. But if your dueling one, bye bye. I play d/p SA
