I play for rewards. I can level my alts while simultaneously getting cool finishers and titles. I can also take a lot of stuff i learn into WvW when i roam
Ok. So what would be the advantage of a Sw+x setup? Just the setup for shatters?
Strength runes, strength/air sigil, and some combination of valk/cav/zerk
~15k health
~2.5k armor
~2100 power
~210-220% crit dmg
~40-50% crit chance
And then signet mastery for the adept slot
I personally like the Karka shell more. Choose whatever you like more
What does this setup have over a Sw+GS or sw+staff setup? Whats the advantage in using this over one of those?
I have a trolly build in my sig. Never die while trolling mini zergs
I noticed your thread is 9 months old. Do you still use the same build, or did you need to tweak it at all?
Its still the same as nothing has been added or changed
Shorter cooldown. If you don’t have signet mastery use balanced stance. If you do have it use dolyak signet. But for PVE if use balanced stance with or without signet mastery because you don’t need any more than base armor already
Yeah I think i will just go guard. Thanks again guys
Look, almost all these questions can be answered by a quick search on the wiki, or asking in the class specific forums. Sometimes you gotta help yourself.
How are mesmers after the whole empowering mantras thing? Ive wanted to make a full zerk shatter mes for WvW for awhile. Are mesmers helpful in pugs (obv not shatter, but whatever the current DPS/reflect build is)
I made Valkyrie. Sure pure zerker is better in PVE, but i primarily play my thief in WvW anyway, and you only lose a couple %crit chance with valk over zerk which is nullified by HK. So is say ascended valk armor, ascended cav or zerker weapons, and all zerk trinkets
I like the 1handed sword and longbow the most. Shield is ok but looks upside down :/
First off, welcome to GW2! Heres a fairly generic post that i copy/paste on to every new player thread, with some basics you should learn. Incoming wall of text.
Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot. The current meta for PVE is to use full dmg gear an traits and wipe out mobs and bosses as quickly as possible, using active defense to survive.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable. Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
In addition, GW2 is highly unlike WoW in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
Oh…i thought he was talking about putting a CD on being able to change traits and stuff
With s/d pack runes are better than strength
When i say pugs, i mean this is as in the worst possible pug i could come up with. I do say “zerk only p123” but i dont typically ask people to ping gear unless its blatantly obvious the run is much slower or harder than usual, or if i see like a rifle warr or staff guard or something. Those highly coordinated pugs are always awesome when they come up, but thats fairly rare and id much rather be finished with the dungeon than still waiting for one more zerker. Im looking for something that will get me through both the good and the bad end of the pug spectrum. The easier it is to play the better. Also if this helps my most common paths are AC123, CoF1, TAup/f, and CoE p123.
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
Why?
Id like a few more people to comment but i knew it would be a guardian. I like GS+Sw/f, but i really dont wanna have to waste time with people going down and wiping and such. So GS+Sw/f vs hammer which would be better?
I’ve decided to make a character that i use purely for dungeons/fractals and nothing else, so i dont have all these sets in my bank taking up space on my other characters. I pretty much always pug, and so is like something that will make all my pug runs short, and relatively simple and smooth. I dont do PVE often, but when i do i like it to be over quickly so i can return to more serious matters (jk PVE is great too). I realize that there will just be those pugs that are absolutely horrible, but is like to lessen that as much as i can so that every run is rather quick and seamless.
I know one of the top reccomendations will be a hammer guard, however i really dislike just auto attacking with a hammer. I will take that if nothing else really comes close to the ease and helpfulness of a guard tho. Anyways reccomend away!
Does any Race really shine as a Guardian, I know the majority of the time you won’t be using Racial skills at all, but do any of the Racial abilities have any use in builds that a Guardian would be using at any given time?
The elite norn snow leopard for running away in WvW can be handy. Other than that no
0/6/6/2/0 with power of inertia, strength runes, strength sigil, air sigil, and a mix of valk/cav/zerker armor
my bad, traits skills
He also told you that. All signets with signet grant might trait
METAShift, what runes do you run when d/d and full zerk scholar?
He told you. Full zerk and scholar runes
For spvp you have spirits, rabid/celestial trapper, BM bunker, SotF power builds. And those are just the basics of the builds. There are hundreds of variations of those
There are tons.
A Sw/d SB trapper build is really kitten good with celestial
Hambow is 0/0/30/10/30 soldiers ammy, battle sigils, and strength runes. If you really focus on stacking might you can sit at 20+stacks
75%? Where the hell did you get that? More like 10%, maybe even lower
Look at the base you start in. And aspect arena isn’t spvp
As was already said, unlike perplexity you don’t take krait for the 6/6. You take krait for the bleed duration. These are actually useful to warriors. Warriors have no acces to poison other than runes/sigils so the proc is actually somewhat helpful, especially with a low CD elite like SoR. Sure you can already get 90% with food and a trait. But what if you don’t wanna use the food? Then you can use krait and have 95% bleed duration, as well as a nice food like lemongrass or something. And in spvp you can’t use food so its awesome there. Perplexity was also nerfed again so the #6 is on a 15sec ICD. That means youll only have 5(8 if they hit you) stacks of confusion at all times. That nowhere near makes this the automatic best condition rune especially if you have little to no interrupts on your build (a lot of the standard condi builds dont). Even engis with a good crit chance, earth sigil/sharpshooter/shrapnel and nades can make very good use out of krait runes. It just depends what you’re going for
D/P trickery is an spvp build and is extremely squishy and difficult to play correctly. Id advise you not to use that in WvW.
As for not doing enough dmg, the solution to this is at least 5 in SA, strength runes, a strength and air sigil, and power of inertia. This setup allows you to permanently sit at 15+ stacks of might which makes up for the ferocity change
In Dark Souls, I ran the heaviest, sturdiest armor and shield along with the war pick because it’s a war pick.
I’ve never played dark souls, but thats not how this game works. There is absolutely 0 point in being tanky in gw2. Different games are different :/
Ok. But its completely worthless for PVE since you won’t be doing dmg, wont be helping heal or support your allies via boons and such, and you won’t even be able to take the heat off of them because there are no aggro mechanics in this game. So why exactly do you want to do this?
bomb and grenades are really different. I had always used bomb but bomb are static and are much slower to land . in my opinion bombs are great for node figthing but with bomb a shield is near to be a must for the combo you can do. Instead with P/P grenades snyergies really well and toolkit is a must, you have no block and no defence skill in your build . Obviously i am thinking at PVP … not at PVE …
Why do you need a defence skill when you can dodge? the toolkit seems useless to me, the toolkit’s toolbelt skill is really useless, toolkit is in more melee range then bomb kit, and i prefer the elixer gun for coni clearing every 20 secs and stun break in the toolbelt skill.
I really dont understand all the hyp over the tollkit…
Prybar is awesome power and condi dmg, magnet is a great chasing ability and can even pull people off of towers in WvW, gear shield is the best block in the game, 3sec block on a 20(16) sec CD is amazing
I have a trolly build in my sig. Never die while trolling mini zergs
Your sig is like a swiss army knife full of little treasures.
Noice! Glad you like it
This game doesn’t have tanks/healers/dpsers. Everyone needs to do enough dmg to kill things, be able to keep themselves alive using various blocks, blinds, and evades, and be able to heal themselves with their #6 healing slot. Going for a pure tank is completely useless and is a hassle to your group, especially as their are no aggro mechanics, so even if you do build extremely tanky, your still not even holding aggro for your group

Support doesn’t rely on stats like healing power and boon duration, as a full dmg setup will still have all the boons, reflects, mighstacking, and aegis/protection a normal group would while still dealing top tier dmg. In other words, you should rethink your definition of support into not being purely healing based. Every class already has their own #6 heal and anything you can give them would be very lackluster.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.

Need link to updated hammer + greatsword pvp guide.
Is it worth farming fractal swamp over and over again?
Whats fastest way of lvlin now when train go deleted?
Ask in whatever classes specific forum for builds
Have someone tested this out in WvW?
Also do you think this would work with soldier armor? I already have 1 set of that with Traveler and I don’t feel like investing on a new set of armor and runes :/As the OP, yes this works very well in any solo or small group (2-9ish) setting.and here’s what you would gain and lose by using soldiers
+150 power
+2k health
-150ferocity
-150 toughnessIt seems like a valid option to me. Do make sure you use all zerker weapons and trinkets tho, as without these you just wont do enough dmg. However there are some things you should change than what i had in the OP. first off use omnom berry ghosts/pies for food as they pack quite a bit of dmg and sustain. Second would be to use master maintenance oils, as 35% crit chance isn’t quite enough.
I disagree with the 35% Crit Chance not being enough because with the Fury boons you get from using Meditations, you’re pushing that up to 55%. I run with 35% and crit hit plenty of times.
You’re assuming whats plenty to you is also plenty to me. 35% isn’t plenty to me. Therefor i use oils
It’s terrible.
Everything kills me, everything counters me leaving me chasing someone swinging the mace like a madman. The warrior can do NOTHING in pvp, absolutely nothing, everything it uses is countered with cure conditions or stability.
I’m going to be a kitten and just make an ‘i win’ build with a mesmer and thief which both have a ludicruous amount of damage and survivability.
Its not the build then bro
Hambow warrior
How did you name the character with that in the first place? You obviously knew how at one point, and then you made it again while posting here. So why can’t you type it in the delete box?

Skullcracker is moslty good because of a master trait in the arms tree which increases your crit chance by 50% against stunned foes. There is also a sigil, called sigil of paralyzation that increases your stun duration by 30%. That adds a whole other second to skullcracker so that its actually 4 seconds long, which is extremely long for this game. There is also a sigil called sigil if impact which adds 10% more dmg to stunned foes. Putting that on your greatsword is huge as it basically gives you a free +10% dmg on your burst combo. There is also a trait in arms called forceful greatsword which reduces all the cooldowns of your greatsword skills by 20%, but it also grants you might for each critical hit you do with your greatsword. So each hit with 100b will just keep getting more and more powerful as you stack more and more might. The 15 point minor trait in discipline also synergies greatly with this build, reducing the cooldown on your weapon swap by 5 seconds. That means you never have to wait around for your swap to come off CD, you can always be swapping. This is what i personally use
Strength runes are currently the top dogs DPS wise for runes, and they synergies amazingly with forceful GS. Battle sigils as well synergies very well with the whole thing and its not uncommon to have 25 stacks of might after you use 100 blades. You should be hitting for a minimum of 15k with the whole skullcracker?100b combo. Also thanks to your very high fury uptime (boon that grants 20% critical chance) + unsuspecting foeyour 30% crit chance you built for you have 100% crit chance on every 100b. Its also extremely durable thanks to the blocks on mace and shield, evade and mobility on GS, 3k armor (very high in this game) and healing signet.
Just be careful and watch if people have the boon stability on their bar (immune to CC). Search gw2 skullcracker build on YouTube and your sure to get hundreds of results
