Dungeons have a story mode, which is very easy, and the explorable mode which is a bit more difficult and gives better rewards, so people run explorable mode paths to farm gold. If you want to run ascalonian catacombs at lvl 30 you need to look for groups advertising for story mode.
Now, about the explorable mode dungeon paths i dont recommend running then before lvl 80, because it will be significantly more difficult since you will not have a complete build and traits and good armor set, and people running exp mode generally want a fast run. But if you find a guild and/or friends willing to run dungeons with you then it will be much easier to run exp mode, because pugs normally lack patience and skill to teach lower lvl and new players.
I would start with necro. My main has always been warrior and i’ve never had problem with being kicked from dungeon groups or struggling with bosses or skips. I always see people complaining that they get kicked on sight when they join groups on necro so i would like to see if thats really true or people are just QQing, specially that youtuber Nemisis, he was always complaining that zerkers kept kicking necros and so on.
I once got a pug ranger with 9k ap on my arah run and he was completely clueless, we had to explain everything to him. At the end of the run i asked if he bought that account and he replied that it was his brother’s account, but since his brother went to college he gave the account to him.
Once i got a lvl 80 pug that didnt know he could weapon swap in gw2, he never used that second slot for weapons, it was an amazing discovery for him when we told he could equip a gs together with his staff and swap during the battle.
For that defense event in CoF p2 the best way to improve your survivability is by actually going full berserker’s build, so you will be able to kill the mobs before they start to become a threat to the group. I’ve never done that event on a guardian but i believe those mobs recharge your f1 skill when killed, so you can spam blinds while running around killing then.
You said you stood there for 3 secs and got wrecked, if you keep running around and using your gs auto atack it will be much safer because the melee mobs cant walk and atack at same type like the players, so bring a stun breaker and trait for blinds and recharge on f1 skill on each kill and you will be fine ^^
Double staff guardian, thats interesting.
People that say that dungeons is just about stacking and pressing 1111 are too used to get carried by good groups. I was watching this video from woodenpotatoes where he was using his tank warrior in a SE p3 run, and i was cringing seeing how his group was helpless against that first boss that keeps stacking bleeds on the group, even his tank warrior was getting destroyed, and that boss can be killed very easily in a more coordinated group. So people saying that a non-meta build only adds like 2secs more to a speedrun pug dont really know what they are talking about.
This is the video
Do they have any reward except jumping puzzle chests?
Last time i did one of then i got a rare popping up as a reward, just like the rewards you get from doing world bosses like maw, and there was a chest at the end like the jumping puzzle ones, with blues and greens, but i did it quite a long time ago.
You mean that mini dungeon in Diesa Plateau? If so its the first time i see a thread about mini dungeons here in the dungeon forum :P
The old TAFU path had a bug on the final boss where it spawned infinite waves of spiders during the fight, making it impossible to beat the boss if your group wiped on the first try. So when they launched the new aether path they used it as an excuse to remove the TAFU path instead of fixing that bug.
At that time on the livestream about the new path the dev gave an excuse that TAFU was the least ran path from TA and it was a “lore-breaking” path, because on each one of TA’s paths its a different boss that merges himself to the nightmare tree (Leurent, Vevina and Fyonna), so according to him that was a lore-breaking problem so they cut the path down.
This is the video where the dev talks about it and presents the new aether path

You dont need to be fractal lvl 10 to get a pristine fractal relic. For doing fractal lvl 1 once a day you already get one pristine fractal relic from the final chest, the only advantage of being higher than lvl 10 in fractals is that you can farm 2 final chests a day (one chest for 1-10 tier and another for lvl 11-20 tier).
So if you do fractal lvl 1 for 5 days you will have enough pristine relics for the mists stone.
What happened? You tried to farm champions in fractals but your group refused to cooperate?
I think the best instance for champion farming is SE p1, and the speedrun record for it is like 4 minutes, so if you dont kill Tazza you can farm the other bosses and champions in a pretty short time. I think the other instance with lots of bosses that are fast to kill is AC story.
I dont think the example that the OP is bringing up is very relevant. He basically had to drag his girlfriend into playing gw2, he even had to buy the game for her. I bet that after 20 hours of playing the game she will get bored and stop playing, and no matter what changes you recommend that wont make her hold more attention to the game.
The game should catter to people that are interested in playing it, if you buy a game you should do a little research about what you are buying before spending money on it, and not expect to be hand-holded all the way through the game.
So, basically she doesnt know how mmos work, didnt even bother in buying a copy herself and after only a few hours she felt overwhelmed by everything the game has to offer so lets dumb down the game even more so more and more people that dont give a kitten about the game can complain less until they reach lvl 80 and get bored anyway.
Your account may end up being terminated because of that inapropriate name.
Why gw1 females have such long necks?
Arah p3 is good to solo as a warrior. I haven’t tried to solo the ritual yet, but crusher+hunter and mage are pretty fun to solo.
And i think now all story mode dungeons are soloable or at least duo-able since anet made then easier in this last patch.
Just make a Warrior. There are many portions of the game where players will not accept you unless you are a Warrior.
Man those days are over. That’s like living in the past. The only people today who won’t except you if you’re not a warrior are people who can’t adjust to a new meta.
I still come across dungeons parties where people will only accept zerker warriors.
I come across people still asking for a tank and a healer, but their information is at the very least outdated. Numbers run by someone in the Reddit community doesn’t put the warrior at near the highest damage output anymore.
Making a Warrior is still guaranteed to get you into parties. I am not saying it is right, but if you are the sort who only wants to make one profession, you should make a warrior.
Make your own parties then.
For dungeons the only change was the nerf on fiery greatsword, so no more rushing against a wall to do a ton of damage. Rangers got buffed, necros are still trash, warriors got nerfed a bit, ANet devs said in a interview that there aren’t any plans of making new dungeons or hardmode or anything dungeon related, and thats it at least for dungeons ^^
From what i’ve heard its better to camp gs than swapping to axe+mace for solo’s dps, because gs can stack vuln on auto atacks, and all the might stacks you get from camping gs are more beneficial for soloing than the vuln you can get with axe+mace, so your personal dps is higher if camping gs.
But this changes if you are in a group, the vuln from axe+mace is more beneficial for the group’s dps than stacking might to yourself from camping gs, so in group you go 6/5/0/0/3
Necro is not helpful, they are a selfish class. Maybe an asura guardian? A mini mini asura wielding a hammer can be funny.
They changed story mode dungeons on the last patch, now you are always 2 lvls above the dungeon lvl, so in AC you are lvl 32, CM lvl 42 and so on. And on top of that we do way more damage now since the change to how ferocity scales down to lower lvl areas, so you do a lot more damage and you are 2 lvls higher than the mobs.
If she wants to be tankier she should run an AH build, its the build the guy in this thread is asking for
Of course, its not even close to the meta builds but i think this is the build that fits the archetype she is looking for. Altruistic healing trait heals you when you give boons to allies, so when she uses empower on staff 4 or the symbol on 3 she will get healed a lot.
There are not many people running arah because the dungeon community is dying, so there are not many veterans around.
Just see the speedrun guilds how long they can survive in the game, and if you dumb down even more the last real endgame dungeon we still have then there will be nothing worth to be doing for the experienced players.
Just look at this forum, one year ago this was so full of new posts every week, its true that most of then were about “NERF TAFU” or “SPIDER QUEEN IS TOO HARD” but that also indicated that there were more people interested in dungeons, now even the more casual players know how to fight spider queen, there is nothing left and even the dungeon tournament thread is empty :/

I dont recommend gw2 anymore for people looking for a mmo to invest their time in. I think gw2 cant be called a mmo, this is just an online game. A mmo needs to have thousands hours of replayability, its a type of game where you invest years playing it, and gw2 simply doesnt have it, it lacks longevity, lacks content.
Players were already complaining when the game released that there wasnt much stuff to do at lvl 80, now 2 years later we are basically playing the exatly same content.
So, if gw2 will be a good “mmo” for you it depends of what type of player you are, if you are a casual player that only plays once a week then its a good game for you, but if you want to invest in a mmo you will probably get bored fast after hitting the lvl cap.

No. It means that the skill points and vistas are not lvl gated to your alts, you dont need to wait to lvl X to do a skill challenge anymore if you are leveling up an alt.
I dont think thats a good idea. With the latest changes to the leveling system lower lvl players are so weak that i honestly dont believe that a group of 5 underleveled newbies can get past spider queen. The problem is not the difficult, but is because people just rage quit on the first wipe instead of trying to learn the mechanics.
You said you miss the pain pugs used to have before the stacking/skipping/zerking became usual tactics, i honestly dont miss that because that just made dungeon runs more frustrating, where most of the pug groups didnt get past the spider queen boss.
For new players to get into dungeons i think they should at least be lvl 80 and in full rares and do a bit of research about the dungeon like i did when i started running then, that avoid a lot of frustration for everyone.
And if you want to run dungeons just to help leveling your alts just run with your main character and swap at the end, pug groups should not be forced to carry you just because you want to rush to lvl 80.
I thought you moved to ESO because this game is trash and doesnt have any updates.
Forum bug…
And btw, listening to the devs have been making me depressed from playing gw2 lately, we’ve been dealing with game breaking bugs to dungeons for a long time and we even got a dungeon path cut out after having this kind of bug, but really? We dont have the right to protect our own instance from griefers anymore, and the griefers can now be rewarded by kicking the owners?
Seen how the lfg tool has been in beta for so long and still is a paradise for griefers (hatred anyone) i feel like anet doesnt really like to support instanced content.
Was doing CoE a few days ago and we ended up having to find a pug for the 5th man. A warrior joined so we asked if they could take both banners and EA. He replied “I use a might stacking build.” I then said “So If you are using PS you should also have EA.” We then pulled both groups and I immediately noticed he dropped Str and Tactics banner and no EA buff appeared. The pug was then promptly kicked from the group.
I’m always baffled by how stupid some people are.
EA is a boring build and no one uses it anymore. You can look at all the videos from nike or brazil or anyone and you will not find then using EA.
The pug groups i usually get are decent. I like to join groups with new players and help then learn the dungeon, which is fun for me and new players tend to have a better attitude and are more willing to listen to advice. Its nice how one player can make a dungeon run much more easier just by having the right class and bring the right utilities for each path, i always bring my guardian for TA and SE, my ele for AC, my thief for CM, and arah i only run it solo and sometimes i give the free slots on lfg or for friends and guildies.
What makes me angry when i’m in a newbie group is that sometimes i get a veteran that is so bad that it makes me believe he is sabotaging the run on purpose, usually this kind of veteran has like 14k+ AP and wear the dungeon master title, but he refuses to help the group with any utility that his class can bring, like mesmers that refuse to use reflects in CM, guardians that never stop using staff and run wvw meditation build and so on. And i feel bad because i can’t ask to kick these kind of players, because since its an inexperienced and low lvl group we cant be too picky, but these kinds of “veterans” really infuriate me.
And these same experienced players are the ones who complain how dungeons are so broken because everyone just skip everything and stack just to get the rewards, and claim that the dungeon community is full of “wannabe zerkers” that wipe in one hit if the group is not full zerk. I’m starting to believe that they really do try to sabotage the run to make their point about how stacking is just an exploit and not a valid dungeon tactic.
I wish I could say that you’ve missed too much to come back, but I can’t.
I re-installed the game, and spent like half an hour just blinking at my stuffed inventory, browsing the TP and seeing all the crazy new skins.
It’s pretty overwhelming.
Also kicking myself for using the Winter’s skins back in the day, instead of holding onto them – those things sell for almost the price of a Legendary. It’s crazy.
The skins from the first halloween and wintersday are crazy expensive right now. I think it was on the first wintersday that the permanent hair stylist kit was avaliable, that thing is the second most expensive item on tp right now.
If i do key farm after the patch i will spend those instant lvl 20 scrolls. I heard the 2nd birthday ones dont stack with the 1st birthday scrolls. ANet said they will revamp the rewards from the personal story, i’m curious to see what they will change.
You didnt miss much. The lvl cap is the same, we have ascended gear but exotics is still good for everything, everyone has the same stats in pvp, and right now the gem store brought back some old items in sale, so if you start to play again your OCD may make you buy everything that is in sale :P
Thanks Chris.
Now, since you are reading this post, please bring back the TA f/u path, we miss it :/
I would love to be able to repeat the PS and do other paths without needing another new toon….. especially as some of the traits are locked behind different paths
I’m pretty sure there is no trait locked behind a personal story instance.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forceful_Greatsword
You need to do the story step “forging the pact”
So for PvE players it’s essentially chasing paper “achievements” and more Dress Up Barbie?
What else do you want to chase?
Nope.
- Nerf berserker builds
- Buff healing and toughness, make supportive builds more important
- Nerf reflection skills
- Nerf warriors
- Nerf eles
- Introduce more puzzles that require at least 4 players, so people will stop soloing dungeons
- Add more immersive npc dialogs in dungeons, like the ones we have in Aether path and in the living story instances, make then unskippable
I didnt know that the new living story could block your progress in the personal story like that. Thats bullkitten.
For dagger build you camp air auto-atack. Its better if you have the fresh air trait, which refreshes the cooldown to the air atunement on crit. I think this guide may help you
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Zelyhn-s-Advanced-D-F-PvE-Guide
That’s the problem with having these giant dragons as final bosses, you can’t design a believable fight with then using humanoid characters wielding swords and bows and staves.
ANet should remove the airship sections of the path, just keep that mouth of zaithan boss and after we kill it we go to the Elder Dragon’s Lair and fight Zaithan face to face, then we could use some giant golems like megazords and go fight Zaithan like in those japanese shows.
I recommend Brazil’s guide to solo Lupicus. In the video he shows what Lupicus does on each phase and what you need to watch out and stuff. In a group it should be easier because the boss will die faster, but its still useful to learn about this encounter.
This is frustrating. I’ve been having this bug since last week, i cant even do fractals anymore because it can randomly make me impossible to progress then. Right now i was doing fractals and completed the first one, but then the second one i cant even get past the loading screen, and i need those fractal relics for my obsidian shards :/
Most people cant even dodge grubs. They probably wouldnt have dps gear either.
It would be really stupid for anet to change a boss which has been considered challenging and well designed for the last 2 years.
Same type of argument could be made about Malrona. She was in no way a pug killer, but every time I pug (and I do mean every time) none of the pugs bother paying attention to the poison mechanic. I would almost get cleansed as soon as it was applied. By no means do pugs bring meta setup to TA all the time, so the boss is generally never 1shot.
Yet, we get a nerf to projectiles out of thin air after the ranger vid. I wouldn’t bet on anet not making another knee-jerk decision on altering lupi bc of this.
ed:grammer
I dont think Malrona’s projectiles got changed because of that ranger video, i think the change was because of that wurm boss where mesmers were one shotting it with feedback. ANet changed its projectiles and somehow it affected all the spider bosses that use projectiles (there are a few of then in Arah and so on).
I think its normal. I believe those risen in Orr have like 18k hp, and i normally can’t kill then with just 100blades, and i’m using the meta build. Maybe those regular mobs in Orr have higher toughness, because i never manage to land 20k 100blades on then when i’m not fully buffed, but in Arah i can do 30k 100blades on the mobs quite frequently.
I guess its engineers with bombs. I feel that bomb kit has a higher atack speed underwater than on land, but i dont have nothing to back up this claim.
Empower allies was meta for only a week, no one cares about it anymore.
