Founding member of [NERF] Fort Engineer and driver for [TLC] The Legion of Charrs
RIP [SIC] Strident Iconoclast
(edited by Chaba.5410)
Ran into SIC for the first time while roaming today and lemme tell you, these guys are atrocious. No wonder they don’t wanna do anything that requires even the minimum of individual skill.
LOLOLOL, no you didn’t run into SIC. You ran into my little NERF group, first time NERF group in WvW on IoJ, who had two SIC hovering around them. GG on beating up on a Pve engineer who entered WvW for the first time and wasn’t even on VoIP with me and another who was running in WvW for the first time with me.
P.S. NERF had a lot of fun. Thanks for helping me with showing new NERF members a good time.

(I don’t do math well because I’m a woman, but OH MY GOD.)
You don’t do self-effacement too well either.
OP’s issue is not really with kits, but with the lack of weapon swapping, as I observed in the other thread. Lot of kitten arguing over the wrong thing.
“the tool belt is what we are supposed to be … creating our builds around”
That’s absurd. Absurd in context of other classes. Absurd in context of the engineer. Name some builds from other classes that do that. I can only think of one of the engineer: SD rifle burst build, and consider it an abuse of the profession mechanic, a creative way that people have come up with to work around balance issues of other skills, not something we were “supposed to” be doing.

Arkham,
Please point to a post, any post, where I said kits are the primary profession mechanic. Will not be found as I posted the opposite.
Preemptive addendum? LOLOLOLOLOL man, you continue to assume a certain position is being taken by others.
Who is it not dealing with facts again?
(looks like jimmies have been rustled)
Arkham, you remain highly disingenuous by ignoring established design patterns that do not fit your argument, such as the traitline certain traits are placed in. And rather than take time to understand what others are saying, you immediately assume they do not agree with you.
Well you are right that I don’t agree with you about right and proper ways. It’s absurdism to tell people in an online game that they are not playing right and proper because they are not doing something the way you would, as if everyone is supposed to play the same opening move you use in chess. Hacks would be the improper way to play a game.

Best looking mace in the game for engineer…
I have auto-attack turned off of FT #1 on purpose. Nothing like auto-attacking a target that has the retaliation boon up and burning your health away.
Please, when you don’t back your opinion up by describing what you think is the right and proper way to play something, you just look like an elitist fool best filed into the ignore pile. I do improper things with my engineer all the time and am loving it.
/facepalm

TBH I have not seen this supposed “high percentage” on the sub-forum complaining about engineer being non-viable without kits. It’s a vocal minority doing that.
Bird’s eye view of what it looks like when 9 charge into 20.
The bags! You might find yourself getting that extra inventory slot after all.
Fun fights at NW tower/garri on NSP BL tonight guys
Out of all the players across all the servers of Tyria, some friends of mine from FA unknowingly performed inappropriate antics over my corpse outside that NW tower. They didn’t know it was me and I didn’t know they had transferred to NSP. We had just randomly met each other on the field of battle! Awkward! (But good for a laugh.)
Now if only the RNG gods would bless me with better loot.
Also, I maintain that at its core, the toolbelt is just additional skills, which is also exactly what kits are. Maybe that should not be the case—maybe toolbelt skills should have things that make them feel more defining—but as it is right now, the engineer’s mechanic is having a lot of skills available to use at once.
^^^^ This!
The Tools traitline reduces the cooldown on toolbelt skills. You can reduce the cooldown on other skills using traits. Nothing real unique here. You have to take a trait to do something special when using those toolbelt skills (i.e., Static Discharge). You also have to take a trait to do something special when using other types of skills. So yea. There isn’t that much special about toolbelt beyond existing as extra utility skill slots. Bad design?
saw an anet guy on sor during oceanics and then during sea again…. we all left the fight and started chasing him for some reason XD. there was like 10 people chasing that poor engi all the way from lake to bay…XD.
well next time i see him, ill 1v1 him on my mes ;-)
Wait, a dev on an engi?
I gotta say. 12k gold was a nice offer. I was just going to take it and buy my guild legendary weapons
Oh please yes. Quip for Chaba. ;-)
If you don’t run four kits, you no longer have more skills than an Elementalist.
Which is why the weaker damage output by our main hand weapons hurts, why HGH in an elixir build is rather crucial.
It is my observation that the intent for the creation of this thread was to QQ about the lack of engineer weapon swap. That line of thought again leads to the elementalist class mechanic, attunements, as a useful analogy for kits since elementalist also cannot swap weapons. I do not think this analogy is accidental. Mistake in design? Perhaps. What would your opinion be about elementalist asking for weapon swap?

[SIC] on reset night.
This guild isn’t just any guild. It is lead by Brother Alaric, best commander from Fort Aspenwood. Other guilds seek us out because they know they’ll get a good fight.
No, they are not passive statistical buffs. If you narrow the terminology down enough, you can exclude anything to prove a point. Yet, as a friend says, if you only watch the finger, you won’t see it pointing at the moon and you shall miss out on all the moon’s wonder and glory.
So you’re suggestion we ignore an established pattern set forth by the developers, refuse to use it as a baseline for judgment, and use the wrong terminology all so that we can pretend something is what it objectively isn’t?
Hardly, and if you re-read my posts above, I agree with you that kits are not a primary profession mechanic. Please try to prove a point without projecting the opposing opinion on others. As for patterns set forth by developers on that class mechanic trait line, you cannot selectively pick “passive statistical buffs” and ignore the traits to prove said point.
Finger. Moon.
Teq? Tequila? Nah. I stopped drinking regularly awhile ago.

“Does the engineer’s fifth trait line, Tools, provide a passive statistical buff to kits? No.”
Not to be a troll, but the tool trait line has Kit Refinement in it (and Speedy Kits, Speedy Gadgets, etc.)
Hrm, I wouldn’t call kits our profession mechanic either, yet the similarity of kits to ele attunements and toolbelt to the ele utility slots is a useful analogy to provide to those trying to understand the engineer profession. Not sure why this thread needed making either. It’s an analogy. Take it for what it is perhaps? Ele is a profession played more than engineer, making ele better understood by that playerbase. Give them something they can relate to and they might try engineer instead.
P.S. In that video, the big orange charr Kagusaki Urufu came from Isle of Janthir. He’s one of our core members.
[SIC] had some great times this week.
Awesome leadership skills there. Nice vid.
That’s one of the reasons I joined.
Calling all engineers of the Isle of Janthir! Tired of being kicked out of dungeon parties just because you are an engineer? You didn’t need them anyway. You just need your fellow engineers.
The all-engineer guild [NERF] Fort Engineer has recently opened up recruitment on Isle of Janthir. Saturdays is our guild mission night (around 8pm servertime – guest over to Fort Aspenwood). We have bounties, rush, trek, and challenge. Mondays are our WvW night. On Thursdays we usually end up doing duels and small fights in a custom PvP arena to improve our individual skills in a no pressure environment.
There is no requirement to join other than you either main or alt an engineer and enjoy blowing stuff up. We do not have rep requirements. If you ever wondered what a 10 engineer supply crate drop looks like, this guild is for you.
[NERF] began life as a cross-server all-engineer guild. Send me in-game mail for an invite.

TC, go home. Your “help” for small servers stinks of imperialist snobbery.
shoutout to [SIC] (i think thats the tag) for an incredibly close fight at arah’s hope. that fight was more exciting then the blob fest at bay. i hope we can face just that guild again more often.
also cheers to CORE. it was the first time i have seen you run solo without pugs.
Thanks to you too. We’d much rather have fights than blob fests. Saw you headed to the camp so we met you around the back way.
It’s hilarious.
Lemme pull you with my magnet. Now go away! /rams head
Here is the latest video from NERF’s WvW night on Monday.
This was my last night on Fort Aspenwood. I am currently on Isle of Janthir and am opening NERF recruitment there. If you are on IoJ and would like to blow stuff up with me in small havoc fashion, pm me for an invite.
We are small but we fight like we got a zerg behind us
And we are recruiting!
Wait, a thief called engineer a button mash profession?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!
See my earlier post about traits in the Alchemy line.
Yea, detail I left out was that people couldn’t rez me. I had to waypoint.
Heh, remember the rubberbanding when dropping down a cliff?
It’s a bug.
That change will probably not be in tomorrow’s patch.
Selan,
I thought about that. Yes it was laggy, which could still be a possibility.
Look at the battle. You can see where I’m taking damage and conditions and boons and all that good stuff. The death occurs sometime after the battle, after I’m able to activate skills other than #1. There’s nothing in the combat log to indicate such a spike. I got XP and picked up loot after the battle. How do I get loot spread out all over if I had died?
I’ve been in the middle of a skill lag battle where everything freezes: friends and enemies, then comes back and I’m dead. This wasn’t like that. This was after the skill lag. Everyone but those in my party disappear, as if I get instanced out.
Seems more to me like one of those Alt-F4 effects where the game thought I Alt-F4’d out (because of the lag) and then when I “came back” it killed me.
i do’nt recommend traiting just for the elite. you put 10 points in there to get an extra rifle turret and 3 bandages every 180 seconds or 3 seconds on your elixir x every 90 seconds over traiting for something like elixirs and getting the benefits on a much much shorter cd.
I recommend traiting just for the elite. My two kits and one gadget provide greater utility in my build than an all-elixir build. Elixir X every 84 seconds. And situationally I switch to Supply Crate, or Acidic Coating, Backpack Regen, without having to redo trait line points.
This was reset night 9/13 on DBBL around 9:23pm PST. After a skill-lagged battle (where you see I try to activate guardian mace #3 skill a few times unsuccessfully), I got instanced out or something. Everyone but my party disappears and I am struck for an insane amount of damage that doesn’t appear in the combat log. The bug occurs at like 1:33 into the video.
Maybe this was a Friday the 13th thing!
You know what I like about not having signets? Nobody knows what to expect when coming across an engineer.
Real cool FA….
Looks like someone was just pining for the old days of TC arrow carts hitting the lords room of both hills and bay keeps.
I use Elite Supplies, Fast Acting Elixirs, HGH, and 409 with Elixir X.
In the video (which I’ll render over the weekend sometime) there is nothing in the combat log. Just normal stuff you would expect to see. It was definitely some game glitch. It was a zergy battle and at one point all I could do was spam #1.
I have video of the whole thing too.
Fort Aspenwood guardian in DBBL, 9:23pm PST, a few moments after collecting my loot bags after wiping a large TC force at hills outside the lords room I found myself suddenly dead…
These runes are over the top atm, but I find it hilarious that people are complaining about the least played class in the game. Before the patch the engineer had 2 damage weapons to choose from. What this rune did was turn the shield into an offensive rather than purely defensive weapon. They should limit the stacks rather than put an icd. If they keep adding icd’s to offensive procs, then I want icd on retaliation so I don’t get hit with 10 stacks every time I throw a grenade.
QFT!!!!!!!!!
Fix retaliation’s OP proc on multi-hit skills like grenades and flamethrower then I’ll sympathize with the plight of so many against Perplexity runes.
