GW2 causing GPU to melt since patch

Unhelpful. Occam’s Razor would agree. That isn’t to say there couldn’t be underlying hardware issues or to have a debate over how software can overheat hardware, only to say that it is not coincidental that so many people suddenly flood these forums with the same issue after the patch. It is extremely frustrating to install a patch and suddenly experience these issues only to be told by some person on the Internet that it is a hardware issue.

Aridia,
Please re-read the last sentence of my original post.

Kyllaa,
I submitted the output of Game Advisor and ArenaNet.log to support with all the details because it is clearly a game patch issue. I do not find it coincidental that people posting here with the same problem all have an Nvidia card. Every time there is a patch with a graphics change, Nvidia card owners seem to get screwed. Game ran fine for me since release on auto-detect graphics settings until culling was removed. That was the first time I had to lower my graphics settings WAY down and from then on I have always monitored temperature and fps. This patch is now the second time, which is what makes it so frustrating.

For reference for people reading this, my laptop is an Origin PC 15-S Pro, only 1 year old. The CPU is Intel i7-3720QM, 16G of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I am sad to report that after about 20-30 minutes of play tonight, the system shutdown. I monitored the temperature while I could. It was 102-103C the whole time. I took video of my gameplay experience with the graphics options ui open and will post it later. Seven FPS just from standing still. That ain’t right. Ain’t right at all.

I may try with the Nvidia beta driver tomorrow.

SolarNova,

Your post is extremely unhelpful. Do not disrespect the facts that are being reported to you by the original poster. GW2 cannot alter fan speeds, but it can place greater demands on the hardware than it did before.

I have Nvidia 675M on a laptop that is only 1 year old. On lowest settings I am used to getting around 30-40 fps in WvWvW.

Tonight I basically cannot play. Framerate is averaging 12 fps just from standing still. And yes, I already reset the graphics options back to low.

Somehow I don’t think it is supposed to be stripped either considering the fact that it isn’t a normal boon. It is not affected by boon duration since it only lasts as long as the transform. Would love there to be a dev answer on this.

What Soryuju just wrote is very honest, explains a great deal why engineer is hard to play in larger fights, and echos my own observations.

P.S. I’ve been using Elixir X. It is the only really good and reliable access to stability that the engineer has. The least Anet can do is prevent that stability from being stripped while transformed.

I think it is important to make that distinction, because when someone writes “organized zerg” I just have to laugh.

you must’ve never seen one then

Because there aren’t any. As size increases, the frequency of undisciplined actions increase. Zergs can be semi-organized in that a commander calls for fields and blasts, but they usually are a mess. Someone always manages to drop the wrong field and just forget trying to drop the right field in the middle of a battle. A zerg always manages to become amorphous on a field. Maybe some in the zerg are using VOIP which gives the appearance of organized play. Most in a zerg are not and, given enough numbers, do not need to be.

Compare with organized groups who strive to remain disciplined and coordinate on VOIP. Wrong fields and formation issues are mistakes in these kinds of groups rather than a feature.

Another distinguishing feature is that in a zerg, people don’t know what builds others are running while in an organized group, members should know each others builds. I’m talking about beyond just a zerg field commander calling for all warriors to run battle standard, etc.

^ this. But in a way, FA brings it on themselves by trash talking so much in the forums. IMO it fuels the SEA players even more. People may think they don’t read these but they do.

^ This is one of those perception-based posts. The first page of this topic was filled with trash-talking by everyone but FA members. An FA member finally chimes in on the second page with a negative opinion about this match-up in general and not trash-talking. With a bias like this, I’m not going to change this person’s mind, but at least I can show that it is a bias and nothing rooted in actual facts.

Egineers unplayable without toughness (pvp)

in Engineer

Posted by: Chaba.5410

Chaba.5410

I play a lot of WvWvW and not so much s/tPvP and I can tell you that you still need some amount of toughness in your build, whether through gear or through the traitline, because your mitigation skills like blinds and cc will all be on cooldown eventually (Thank you Anet for giving engineer an escape via Rocket Boots!). You are NOT going against onesies-twosies opponents like in PvP. You WILL blow all the tools at your disposal at the optimum times and STILL have to deal with more. That little extra toughness, extra vitality, that Stabilized Armor or Leg Mods, will save you while you wait 1-2 more seconds for your FT #5 blind or static shield to be off cooldown.

Keybindings: What is your layout?

in Engineer

Posted by: Chaba.5410

Chaba.5410

I read Taugrim’s keybinding guide and made my own utilizing the principles he outlines: http://taugrim.com/2011/04/07/guide-to-strafing-movement-and-keybindings/ Basically the idea is to be able to move and activate skills at the same time. I use my thumb a lot more. Lay healing turret by double-tapping with thumb then quickly detonate with the pinky all while moving forward with the middle finger.

Green is movement: fwd, back, strafing (Taugrim doesn’t backpedal but uses that for dodge. I never got used to using a dodge key.)
Purple are class mechanic skills (F2-F4 are arranged right to left!)
Yellow is utility slot skills (also ordered right to left, you can see it on my videos!)
Red are weapon skills.
Orange is elite.
Bright blue is healing.
Tab is swap weapons and the other dull blue keys are related to targeting and interaction.

All camera related movement is done on the mouse. About face is bound to a mouse button.

Tested on engineer, mesmer, necro, guardian, and warrior.

Some people like the hobosack look and skins like the zephyr sanctum sack would still meet that look.

It would not make sense to me if like the flamethrower or elixir gun were a fanny pack. There’s no reason why such kit backpacks have to look like a hobosack. A proton pack does not look like a hobosack.

Looking For A Quirky New Build

1. Grab a deck of index cards.
2. Write an engineer skill on a card, one per card, and sort them by healing, utility, and elite.

4. Flip over three utility cards and slot the skills.
5. Flip over one healing card and slot the skill.

That should be pretty quirky.

Lighten up on the zoom hacks…it’s getting excessive.

Many “zoom hacks” are merely the way you can place siege and look into holes of doors. Some use Eyefinity, and some are legitimate.

Not knowing where you’re from, who you’re talking about, or what instance you’re talking about really put a dampener on trying to find out which it is.

The rules of this forum prevent me from saying too much. There are definite ac zoom hacks being used. For example: hitting lords room of Cliffside from in front of gate outside of range of ac above gate…….or….hitting poi at bay from outsideof nw inner gate

I could possibly see the Cliffside one, but the Bay one doesn’t seem right at all.

There’s some sort of map problem at Bay that allows AC fire through from a point at nw inner gate into the Lord’s room. Whenever FA has fought TC, we’ve typically lost Bay due to that AC fire at that location.

If you are interested in coming to FA, we’d be happy to help with that. If not, I see no harm in adding you as one of the non-FA members. You just won’t receive any guild benefits since Anet’s all-server guild support is annoying.

I know I generally only see one big ol group. Have your main group off doing X, and your second group doing Y. It requires both groups to tighten up their play, as obviously you have less numbers, but you can get more accomplished than when you’re confined to one large group. You’re essentially hitting multiple objectives at once, and forcing the opposing team to choose which they wanna save. Pretty much being a pain in the butt.

Respectfully,
Mother Superior, her Grace, Zhonnika
(I love my guildies, I love my guildies… maybe if I keep repeating it…)

Yea, that’s pretty much how FA gave TC a very hard time on TCBL last matchup’s reset. The TC presence there just ran around in one big blob. TC has “natural clumping” as my guild used to call it.
