The downward spiral of inefficient match making

Turns out djoeb, there’s actually been a group who’s been trying to take control and act as commanders in TC. The AWC, or Alliance War Council. It’s an alliance of guilds who intend to fight in WvW and prove that TC isn’t a pushover just because it’s an RP Server. It’ll be a hard-fought war, but we’ll make them fight for it.

Hang in there, baby!

First day of WvW, we in Tarnished Coast were up against Dragonbrand and Maguuma. They allied at the start and steamrolled through our borderlands, crushing all resistance. There was little we could do.

Evening of the second day, TC was last in point gain, DB had all three orbs, and we were struggling to hold our own territories on its borderlands, constantly ending up swapping supply camps with DB. Though towards the end we made a few jabs at the enemy keeps.

This morning of the third day I wake up, and what do I see? DB 320, TC 215, Maguuma 160. Everyone has one Orb. TC has its borderlands almost entirely under our control, and we even have Stonemist.

Moral of the story is, just because you’re getting trounced at the beginning, doesn’t mean you can’t pull back. We may still be in last overall-point-wise, but we’re starting to catch up. With some luck we may even catch second.

I just want to say, I’m on Tarnished Coast. Currently it’s at Dragonbrand 295, TC 235, Maguuma 165. We at TC have Stonemist, and our home borderlands are, at this moment, almost fully under our control.

A horrible start is not the end of the game. We may be fairly far behind in the points, but we’re pulling ahead.

Don’t write everything off yet.

A proposal for brackets....

Servers are still in the process of getting properly ranked, and with the recent reveal of all the match data I wanted to make a proposal for the various brackets and what they would be named.

There’s 24 NA servers and 27 EU servers (I’d call these the American League and European League). It pretty much would fit for a 6-6-6-6 bracket (With an extra three for the EL). As such, I propose the following…

Those ranked 1-6 would be in the Platinum Bracket. 7-12 would be in the Gold Bracket. 13-18 would be in the Silver Bracket. 19-24 would be in the Bronze Bracket. EU, unfortunately, would have 25-27 likely be called the Qualifying Bracket. The six servers within each bracket would face each other. If enough points move them up a bracket, the lowest in the higher bracket moves down, that way servers that are evenly matched would be fighting each other. I’m not sure what brackets ANet had in mind, but… well this is what I propose.

Wow, the complaints came in fast.

The way I see it is this… the “Brackets” weren’t quite FULLY set up by this time. I think the period shown there was still a training period, and the matchups seemed to be decided based on overall score… which is a HORRIBLE way to judge things. I still remember the arguments from one server on how another server shouldn’t be higher than them because that other server never beat them or won a game…

The Point Place system that was instituted here is the best method, in my opinion. It may not be fully accurate at the moment, but after a few matches which would move servers about in the rankings, it would become more accurate to how servers are doing.

The only other way you could rank things would be “You win you go up you lose you go down” but that just wouldn’t work in a 1 on 1 on 1 system like WvW.

I propose formatting this in multiple ways.
Way one: Ranking based on Overall Score (I think this is how the current rankings are calculated)
Way two: Ranking based on Number of Wins
Way three: Ranking based on what place one came in in a match (Say, three points for first place, two points for second, one point for third)

If we can get all these methods of arranging the info, I think we’ll better be able to judge how well the different servers are doing in multiple ways.

The fact that you threw random ingredients at them and they STILL managed to make actual dishes from them really gives points to ANet for the amount of stuff they thought to make.

Their “kway” pronunciation cracked me up, too.

Glad to know it wasn’t just me.

Is there any part of the world where “quay” is actually pronounced “kway” rather than “key”?

Wait… you mean it’s NOT pronounced “Kway”? I’ve been pronouncing it that way for YEARS!

…then again I thought it was “Xulani” until about two months ago, and I played Prophecies since launch…

Well you could potentially end up in an unwinnable situation, where you fail just because you can’t WIN.

Which is better than having to start the entire mission over just because a plot-critical NPC died five feet from the finish line.

Well let’s see…
Henge of Denravi is currently at the head of the board on the NA WvW list. On the one hand this means you’ll be among the elite in WvW. On the other hand you’ll be waiting five hours just to get into WvW.
If you like RPing, try Tarnished Coast. It’s the unofficial NA RP server. And in the WvW rankings we are smack dab in the middle. You might have a queue at peak hours, but usually you can get in.

Just one comment about your complaints…

Orr was sunk in a great cataclysm and was under the ocean for a couple centuries. Then Zhaitan rose it. So all that coral and stuff that seems just “Attached”? That really WAS just “attached”. Sure stuff may have grown around some of it, but still, most of the oceanic stuff grew on top of things.

It wasn’t meant to be underwater… it WAS underwater. It’s just not anymore.

I am seeing more and more bots. From the simple stand and shoot to the jump around in a pattern types.

I report them, I encourage pothers to report them, and yet I still see the same names day after day.

There has got to be a way to auto detect these people by now. MMOs are not exactly new to the market.

Not quite sure how you’d autodetect those little birds that bob up and down due to the water in that bulb on one end, hitting a key over and over…

Hidden Gems

No no, this has nothing to do with the Cash Shop.

I’m talking about fun little hidden things you stumbled across while playing. GW2 is FULL of them, from references to jokes to lovely little touches they’ve added in. What have you found? Here’s a few examples I found…

Turns out, many of the gravestones in the game can be read, and I’ve read all the ones I’ve found… some contained references to the original games, like the graves of Alesia or Nicholas the Traveller. But then you find the silly ones. Like “Kah Meena—His is a sword that will pierce the mists”. Or a grave with the epitaph “She thought she could outrun a centaur”. It’s worth reading them.

Stumbling across ANet’s logo hidden within Lion’s Arch. OK actually I saw it in a video, but still… nice little addition.

Anything you’ve found?

11:40 PM: Guy continues to stand around glaring at gold seller waiting for someone to ban him while complaining about it on the forums instead of playing the game.

Seriously dude, just play the game. Let it go. Run around and do some events, or go to another city or something.

Oh no I’m not telling him to stop reporting gold sellers. By all means, report them.

What he should STOP doing is standing glaring at him and giving a minute-by-minute complaint of how long the guy is standing there. Send the report in and go on your way.

I always find it hilarious when people want others to stop reporting gold sellers. It makes me question their motives.

I’m crafting so yes, I am “playing the game.” If you don’t like the reporting feel free to stay out of this thread.

OK point made with the crafting, but if it pisses you off so much there’s five other cities you can go craft in. You reported him, and we don’t need to hear your minute-by-minute playthrough about how he’s still there.

Then don’t open the thread? What a novel concept…

See that wall in the SW part of your map? That’s part of the Domain of Winds. Just southwest of it you can see the western wall. The Domain of Winds is the homeland of the Tengu.

Also, if you played Guild Wars Prophecies, you may have seen a large floating “Wizard’s Tower”. When players asked if we would learn anything about it, he responded with two words: Tengu City. That tower, I think, is located a bit south and west of the area you link.

So yes, that area might be part of the Tengu lands.

A system in place? WHAT system? There’s no sub fee to keep them out, and there’s no way to track or find them until they’ve been seen. They need more than one person reporting them (Since if every person was banned because one upset jerk posted a report about them, even if unjust, then everyone would be banned) so right now, all that can be done is report them and hope it gets taken care of sooner rather than later.

Besides… you can buy gold legitimately in-game with gems and people know this. It’s only a matter of time before the gold farmers realize they’re not going to be getting that $60 they spent for a banned account back.

Personally I think Cantha will be first, and the reason is thus…

There are four Elder Dragons currently: Jormag, Zhaitan, Kralkatorik, and Primordius. Jormag guards the Northern Shiverpeaks. Kral guards Elona (Alongside Palawa Joko) from Tyria. Primordus is deep underground. And Zhaitan severed all sea travel and contact with Cantha.

Consider the fact that of these four dragons, the last one is the one we have known we were going to fight and kill. Sea travel will open up. Travel to Elona and northwards is still cut off, but we can now reach Cantha. In addition with all the development given to the Tengu and the rumors that they will be the next race, I feel certain that Cantha will be the next expansion.

HA! You think this is bad? Jute Scraps are nothing compared to the horror that is, as I call them, DROP MATS. But you probably encountered them… scales, totems, vials of blood… you’re going to need them to craft EVERYTHING. And they rarely drop when you need them! I’ve spent a full gold just getting my skills up that last 25 to the next rank so I can use the next level of mats.

The fact that you can’t craft anything in the armorsmithing or weaponsmithing crafts without using these Drop Mats (Except plain boxes, but those lose viability for levelling pretty darn fast) is utterly ridiculous.

Ouch! I wouldn’t know because I usually run out of jute scraps before i run out of blood.

Well I can’t speak for Tailoring but I’ve generally found there’s three stages for at least Armor and Weapon.
Stage one requires three each of one of three different types of drop mats.
Stage two requires three each of one of four different specific drop mats.
Stage three requires any drop mats, but now you need EIGHT of one of the mats.

Mind you I’m referring to “as a reasonable use for levelling up your skill” but you get the picture. As far as I’ve heard, the only exceptions to this rule that I know of is Cooking and Jewelry.

He’s got it there, but let me give you an additional tip:

Currently, each day the WvW setup resets. When this happens, Realms may end up in a different “Home Borderlands” and in different spawn locations on the various borderlands and EB. If you can get in at the start, you’ll be able to catch all the nodes and locations near your spawn, since they will already be secured.

This will take a minimum of three days and a bit of luck with queues, but it makes full exploration of the EB and all three Borderlands much easier.
