Southsun Plot Spoilers in Item/Achievements [Merged]

in Last Stand at Southsun

Chessrook.8643

It DOES kinda spoil what happened in the last Southsun event, that brought Southsun into existance. As a lore fan I WISH I had been able to do it.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy dumped 2 feet of water into my house and I didn’t get access to my PC until after November had ended (And my laptop was 7 years old and failing).

At least I’m gathering together bits and pieces now.

The refugees won’t be in Southsun for another coupla days until they patch in that new content on the 14th.

One thing I’ve been wondering, though… I talked to the refugees in Lion’s Arch and managed to learn what they were planning to do with their lives now that the Molten Alliance has been driven back or whatever, but… where’s Malia?! I don’t know if I was just blind, but I was looking forward to hearing where she was going to next. Found Biron, Kirk, others… No cute cub.

Guild capes > back banner

Banners stick high in the air and allow people from much farther away to see your symbol.

Capes get caught in jet engines and cause you to die.

But seriously though, would be nice to have a few capes, if they can be figured out.

I think new ACs doing what they are supposed

in WvW

Posted by: Chessrook.8643

Chessrook.8643

Yeah it’s pretty clear. ACs weren’t particularly useful and didn’t really pose much of a threat outside of narrow corridors like Pang or the paths to the SM Lord Room. Now they actually pose a threat to those in more open areas too (Still contained, but more open), giving smaller groups a better chance of survival.

The problem is abuse. That pic of 12 ACs on one door keeps popping up, and that pretty much says it all. I don’t know how often you’d really be able to MAN all those ACs, or how useful it would be when dealing with multiple broken walls or ranged catas/trebs, but the fact is it’s getting overused.

Underpowered and never useful, or overpowered and abused horribly? Which is worse?

Pile of putrid essence.

Chessrook.8643

I think the reason they’re not worth so much is because there used to be a fair chance of them dropping from Risen enemies. And there were SO MANY RISEN in Orr, combined with the low amount of recipes that use them and the low desirability of them, that everyone got them, nobody needed them, nobody wanted them, so they all got dumped on the TP.

Eventually they started dropping less often, and with the lower amount of Risen in Orr since launch they’ve become a lot more rare, but the damage has already been done.

I think it’s similar to Ancient Bones. In Halloween, they dropped OFTEN from enemies in the Mad Realm (Especially skeletons), and the high numbers of skeletons made them easily farmable. Due to this, the price went down. However the only reason THAT didn’t crash was because bones are still highly desirable both for crafting various insignias and as a component of every Legendary recipe. A similar instance, yet not as extreme.

Supply and Demand, dude. Supply and demand.

I find it funny when people ask for my “honest” opinion on something. Why not just ask for my opinion?

Because we’re onto you, silly.

More because there’s a chance you’ll give an opinion swayed by not wanting to hurt a person’s feeling or else wanting to jerk around or get a rise out of them or to give some opinion that isn’t your ACTUAL opinion for other sorts of reasons.

And I find it funny that… um… I can’t think of anything here.

Raiding - endgame is there but never played

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chessrook.8643

Chessrook.8643

I think the big issue they’re not considering raids is as follows…

One: It’s in the open world.
Two: It’s not in an instance that is just the group doing the raid.
Three: (In words some guilders might use) Those annoying little Kittens could run up and do things that could totally ruin the work we put into killing the boss, making it ten times harder.
Four: We have to WAIT to do the raid.
Five: People succeed at the defense enough times and we’ll never be able to do it in the first place.
Six: They start on THEIR timer, so some of our people might not be ready or miss it!

Mind you, I love the temple events (At least the ones I’ve done… never done Dwayna) and being in a group that pulled off Balthazar from start to finish, getting everyone to work together for a few hours after several failed escorts to finally get through and get those Obsidian Shards I needed for my Legendary, plus actually killing the guy for the first time… that was bloody awesome. Raiders would get annoyed by people constantly getting in their stuff, ruining their plans, and then forcing them to wait for everything to start or else rush in to do it when people aren’t ready.

THAT, I think, is what the raiders are upset about. Because it’s not exactly like “A dungeon, but with 8 times the people in the party” it’s not good enough.

Finally someone gets the point of the thread!

“Paaaah… you young bookahs today… yeh don’t know how good ya got it. With yer gw2lfg and yer crafting systems… ah hear ya crying about zerkers taking everything, but that’s nothing! Back in mah day we had ta wait FIFTEEN HOURS just ta get access ta th’ Underworld! Then it took another 3 hours ta form a group if we were lucky, and by then th’ KOREANS took access away from us again! Yer lucky if ya have ta wait 15 minutes ter get yer precious COF access.”

“And th’ trading post! Ya don’t have ta wait fer anythin’. We had ta trade th’ old fashioned way! In person! Yellin’ till our keyboards were worn! And usin’ Ectoplasms an’ Ambraces fer currency! And we LIKED it that way!”

“An’ don’t even get me started on craftin’! Pah.”

[The old man spits into a nearby bucket, sitting next to a blue and red flame-stylized sword with a gold hilt.]

((For those who don’t get the joke, basically making this as a silly thread for us old vets of the original Guild Wars to act like crotchety old men talking about how good the old days were, or how good the people of today have it. Be silly.))

((And no, that Korean comment isn’t anything racist or anything about Koreans. But when access to the UW and FoW was restricted to whoever held the Hall of Heroes whether it was the US region, EU region, or Korean region… well, one of the three tended to hold it more often. And it wasn’t US.))

For amulets you will need laurels.

Well, practically speaking, there can be no need in the game. It’s a game. I could read a book or watch a movie or play another game.

However, if you want to maximize your toon, then you need to do dailies.

The difference between Need and Want

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chessrook.8643

This is something that has been bothering me for a while… the comments that seem most often common on these forums when complaining about things.

“Dailies suck because they FORCE you to do these things!”
“Ascended items suck because you NEED to do this and this to get them!”
“Why are you adding the gear grind? Now I NEED to get the best armor!”
“More Ascended? I have eight characters, now I HAVE TO spend WEEKS equipping all of them again! Thanks for the laurels!”

NO YOU DO NOT.

You do NOT need. You WANT. These things are optional, and in a majority of cases, you can get them through other methods. Ascended items forced? Nope, they’re only a small percentage better than exotics. Not enough to really be THAT noticable. Dailies? Look over the things you can get for laurels, and you’ll see that a majority of them can be gotten in other ways, the few exceptions being the minipets and cat tonic. (And before you point out the tools and boosters, really, they’re practically equivalent to similar types.).

You people need to learn the difference between “Need/Forced” and “Want/given the option”

Chessrook.8643

I have to say, if ANet does ban people for this, I will be very disappointed. It’s not greifing, it;s not an exploit and it’s not cheating.

I’m interested in how you think building multiple flame rams in locations where they can not actually attack anything is anything but griefing. Don’t say the person doesn’t know how to play or how they work, plenty of people have told him.

He griefed Borlis Pass for weeks, now he’s in Ebay doing the same. He even publicly admits that he is intentionally burning supply.

Even though I do not approve of such tactics, I can see why. Specifically, the same reason as spying: To give your home team an advantage, and make it easier for them to succeed. Sabotage, essentially.

Is it right? About as right as spying I’d say. Is spying right? I’ll leave you guys to figure that out. I keep separate from these kinds of things.

Oh really, so the asurans magiclly invented retro 8 bit arcade game items, ok cool, well maybe soon they can also invent a magic burger king where i can get a burger and win a chance at a paper crown.

Cause thats the world thats starting to get made, its already hard enough taking anything seriously when i saw a 8 foot tall charr warrior with a bouncing quaggan back pack on, an anoying sounding 8bit digital pet is even worse.

We already have hamburgers. And veggieburgers too. A comment made in Flame and Frost implied that the Molten Alliance is on the verge of creating its own computer. Asura themselves have created golems, essentially large robots with functional AI, so they have computers as well. Is it really so hard to believe that an Asura decided to use that computational power in another way and, through magic, bring those digital creations into reality?

I think the thing I’ve been frustrated with is that there doesn’t seem to really be any good area attacks in the weapon skills. No matter what, my attacks are focused on one enemy. The few times it can hit multiples, I’m forced to either line them up or cluster them in a very small area. Sword strikes are the closest I can get.

The way I’m playing that sounds like the things I want… illusions out the wazzoo, and confusion all over the place. A mesmer who confuses his foes in multiple ways.

I will say though, having glanced over the various trait lines the bottom two (Whatever they’re called) seemed most intriguing to me.

Scepter only has one way to cause confusion, that’s #3, unless you mean the clone creation for shattering.

So I’ve made a new mesmer, and having looked over the skills I’ve found myself having trouble picking a weapon setup. Or at least one for my secondary.

I’ve tried a few so far. Staff was dull and Greatsword was also boring, with very little happening or anything like that. I’ve also tried a sword main-hand (Not very happy) and a focus (eh). What I HAVE liked so far, though, is a scepter/sword. The mixture of two defensive block skills, along with the high refresh rate of lost illusions, means I almost always have doubles everywhere. And while I don’t know how that affects damage (Still trying to understand the difference between clones, phantasms, and so forth), it at least dumps a LOT of dummies for others to attack.

What about the rest of you? Opinions on weapons and the like?

For all situations, by the way. Levelling, PvE, WvW……not really sPVP though, I don’t do that much.
