Suggesting TC teamed up with Goons of all people is just ignorant. Most TC WvW players hate Maguuma and especially Goons. We have never teamed up with anyone or ever will. I feel insulted someone would even suggest it.
I wouldn’t say never. I mean I would have suggested it against Dragonbrand, but then again remember just how badly they managed to trounce us. In a case like that, yeah, I’d suggest teaming up. But in a close match like last week, even if we were losing, I wouldn’t have.
We have defeated the might of EBay.
We have stood firm against the Goon Zergs of Maguuma.
And we shall defeat Sorrow and overcome Madness.
We are Tarnished Coast, and we shall overcome!
FOR THE TOAST!
…………yeah after seeing who we were going against I just wanted to make some sort of motivational speech post. Move along.
One way to start would be to view the map from within the Heart of the Mists. You can see all the maps from that location, you just can’t see who owns what.
I’m bitter over how if one team has all 3 orbs, they’re strong to the point that you’re never going to get all 3 back easily.
Yeah, when you think about it, 15% more health adds up to having attack one more time. Which isn’t much really when in the heat of the moment.
If this thread gets sent to the “Players helping players” forum I am going to laaaauuuuuuuggggghhhhhhh……….
Why are gathering items soulbound? Account bound would be nice...

When the game started, you could sell them back to the vendor for a pro-rated amount. At some point right after launch, you could no longer sell them and they became soulbound. Additionally, there is no warning that they are soulbound when you purchase them. I assume this was a “fix” for some sort of problem that was discovered with selling them (maybe they sold too well?) and no further action has been taken to date.
I think I actually remember hearing about this problem. SPecifically, they would sell back for the same price no matter how many uses were left. So someone could use a pickaxe 99 times, sell it back, and buy a new one and ended up spending no more coin on it. Or something like that.
Want a punishing game? Play DayZ. You die, you lose EVERYTHING and start over from the beginning. And things aren’t doled out willy-nilly. You gotta HUNT.
That WOULD be cool, but considering the structure of MMOs and such, would be tricky. I imagine the best chance you have would be the dragons landing in one of six or seven different spots on the map, randomly chosen every so often. But then those areas will be camped.
There’s also the issue that… well… you kinda need ROOM for the dragons to land.
Wait, there’s a chain that opens that door? I went a level up and jumped off onto the side of the platform and ran up in what may have been a glitch…
I would like to sign the petition for an in-game kitten filter.
So outside of scripted events or the like (Such as dragon battles), what sorts of self-made moments of epicness or awesomeness… or NEAR-epicness have you had?
The other day I had a near-epic moment. I forget the name of the location, but it’s a crypt located in the north part of one of the Kryta areas. I ran in and died on rapidly-respawning traps. As I lay there a Guardian ran in to try it out. Despite the long time of reviving me, and me dying on the same trap about three or four more times, he finally got me back up and we fought our way through. We got to one of the last rooms, which had a floor COVERED in those high-damage traps (That could potentially one-hit-KO me) and a Champion-level spider. We snuck to a door to find it locked and decided we probably had to take out the spider. So despite it being an Elementalist and a Guardian against a Champion, we started the fight.
It was long. It was hard. We even nearly died a few times. But in the end… we got him down to about 1/8th health before we both ended up finally killed.
We parted ways then (And I ended up with my first ever piece of broken armor) but I’ll always remember that moment of near-epicness.
Gear rewards suck. Beat the game for level 40 gear. Clear the entire world for..nothing. 2 gifts of exploration. Sure, thats nice, but come on man. Map clears give garbage loot, and I absolutely despise all the kitten useless tonics taking up space in my inventory.
yeah, I can just delete them, but inventory space is not the problem. Useless rewards are. At least let me sell them to an npc or something. Utter junk.
Map clear loot should scale to the level of the map at the very least, and the game completion reward is a complete joke. Cost me 1 gold to finish the last mission, they gave me 20 silver and a “present” full of blue and green junk items.
I’m level 80 by this point most likely, so give me level 80 gear.
OK that’s the Worst… now mind giving the Best?
I was wondering how long it would be until someone did only half the topic…
So let’s have a little criticism and praise here. What ONE thing would you consider the best part of GW2, and what ONE thing would you consider the worst?
Please try to be honest, try to be calm and non-flamey, and pick only ONE thing for both. And “Everything” is not a valid response.
As for me personally, the best part would be the “no kill/loot stealing/ninjing” thing that was added in. You take part in the kill you get credit for it. I LOVE this.
As for worst? I’ve found it to be the money given out seems to be low, especially in WvW. Frequently I’ve found myself losing money when going into the WvW, from a combination of paying the fees for upgrades to repair costs to siege costs. It’s something that needs to be addressed.
Basically just a simple suggestion. When guesting is implemented, allow all players to have ONE free transfer to a server of their choice. This is because not everyone reads the forums or patch notes or so forth, and you wouldn’t want it to sneak up on them and trap them in a server they don’t want. Thus, this would allow people who may have swapped for a day to be with friends to go back to the server they wanted without getting locked out.
For those who don’t know, Yahtzee is a fast-talking British Australian who is generally known for ripping on games good and bad. People frequently hope he rips on their games (For some reason) and this week he decided to look at Guild Wars 2.

I feel he may have missed one or two things…
Combining jumping puzzles with defense? Try looking for the griefers in the WvW jumping puzzles.
They get so much rage thrown at them…
Plus, certain crafts let you make your own bags. And armorcrafting is the only way you can get a better underwater breather.
And of course there’s cooking.
I thought all those NPCs built the cannons and oil pots as the dolyaks arrive with supplies. Do players actually have to run around building that stuff?
Yes and no. What the Workers actually build are the locations where cannons and oil can be built. Players then take supply to those spots and build them up, much like siege units (Though they are unowned, so first come first serve.)
If you want more carrot, break out the sickle and start harvesting!
Sorry, couldn’t resist the pun.
Already joined the mumble after seeing Jadon in action. Really knows what he’s talking about.
And nice Charr impersonation on the video.
FOR THE TOAST!
But we already have dualing! You can have almost any weapon in your off hand, depending on your class!
Just a quick question I got, since I have friends curious about the game but not quite devoted to buying yet… when do you think trials will become available for GW2? Or invite-a-friend things?
Well there’s always the mid-range servers which have moderate queues in some lands and no queues in others and you have an equal chance of winning or losing.
Like us in Tarnished Coast.
So let’s hear the current matchups in WvW! I can’t speak for everyone now, so I’ll start with mine…
Ehmry Bay/Tarnished Coast/Maguuma
Maybe we’ll stand better against Ehmry than we did against Dragonbrand.
You do have achievements for WvW. Just none for winning the full match.
Yet.
Lyssa’s Blood… that’s a good one. I like it.
Aye, I was looking for Swears, Exclamations, etc. “My God” for example is used as a curse, a swear, or just an exclamation. You know, that sort of thing.
So just thought up an idea for a fun little topic… let’s come up with some Swears or exclamations the various races might use from now and then, or that you might have heard them use. I may as well list a few I’ve thought of/heard
Universal
By the Mists!
Human
By the Six!
Balthazar’s Axe!
Dwayna’s Wings!
Charr
By the Claw (Of the Khan-Ur)!
Norn
By the Spirits!
By the Bear!
Raven’s Wings!
Asura
My ears!
By the (Eternal) Alchemy!
Sylvari
By the (Pale) Tree!
By the Dream!
Yeah ok a lot of them start with “By The” but… hey I tried! Can you do better?
For those saying “Don’t focus on the score” or anything like that… I’m not. I’m focused on my repair bill. When I’m constantly dying to the zergs and being pushed back, my bill soars and I slowly lose money. More so when I buy siege or upgrades only to have them snagged away before I have a chance to get the cash back. Being unable to gain any ground at all and doing effectively nothing doesn’t help… and I don’t even look at the points.
Being able to hold ground? Hearing strategies? Fighting to keep what we have? Yeah that’s fun. But dying over and over and over…….. there’s a point where that just stops being fun.
And no, I’m not that good a PVPer. That’s why I instead do other things. Sieging, scouting, repairs, tactical advice, occasionally defense or attacking of NPCs and the like.
If I may, maybe it’s just me but I never noticed, not even in the original game, really. Humans are humans, people are people, and skin tone, body shape, facial structure, and so on pretty much blends together into one big mish mash that is “Human”. Even in the first game and all its expansions, I noticed the buildings and architectural styles more than the tone of some random NPC’s skin.
Somewhere in a graveyard, there is a tombstone. I forget the name of the person, but the epitaph is “She thought she could outrun a centaur.”
Seriously, it’s in the game. Graveyard just east of the entrance to Divinity’s Reach. Look it up.
Clearly the devs knew about the memeness of the line.
…the character i met in the p.story Sayeh al’ Rehjid reminds me so much of Tali from ME……maybe it’s the same actor who voiced them or whatever…
No, it’s not Tali’s voice actress. It’s Tali’s aunt, Shala’raan. So you were close.
Looking for a lost cat? Probably some humans wondering where that Charr warband went…
Reference to Anime:
There’s a gravestone located east of the entrance to Divinity’s Reach labled “Kah Meena—His will be the sword that pierces the Mists”. This is a reference to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagen (Or however it’s spelled).
Real Life reference:
In the Priory, you find someone named Wikki, author of a Comprehensive Guide to Tyria (May not be the exact name). I hope I don’t need to explain this reference.
There’s also NUMEROUS russian references by the Dredge that are basically massive puns, so just put “The Dredge Are Communist Russians” as a massive reference. “Moletariat” indeed…
The big problem I’ve had with rifles is when I stand on a wall and shoot at an enemy, two things usually happen… either the wall gets in the way of the shot and gets “Obstructed”, or the player is far enough away to be out of range. Rarely do they end up in that narrow area that I can actually shoot them. Quite annoying, personally.
Just one thing to add to those who are saying Warriors only DPS and nothing else… we DO have some other abilities. Hammers cripple, stun, and knockdown. Rifles can cripple and waken armor. Swords cripple, shields block, and a mace can stun, block/retaliate, and even confuse with the right trait. The big problem, at least that I’ve found, is that it’s hard to get close enough to use any of these skills in melee, especially since virtually everyone I face tends to kite me. I’ve ended up switching to Greatsword in PvP just to have more of a chance to fight, with a rifle also usually used.
And yes, I admit, I’m not the best PVPer… that’s why I do other things in WvW. Repair, operate siege weapons, man defenses, provide scouting or tactical info, and join in raids killing NPCs at camps or taking down walls in towers and keeps. I’m just not that good against the other players when it’s my blade against theirs.
To quote the line said in this comic… http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/829
“Fun is nice, but carrots are tasty, especially when they are unreachable.”
How to defeat Arrow Carts: Sneak up on them from behind, or just get close to them.
I’ve died so many times due to that…
Anyone know if they fixed the broken skill points in Malchior’s Leap and Cursed Shore with this patch?
Yes. I finally got my 100% this morning. All is well.
Did you not check the chest that drops in the area when he died?
Or did you already loot it?
Or are you talking about Event Credit?
Guesting is not yet available as Server Transfers are currently still free.
Wait… isn’t the PVP locker shared between characters like the bank?
Which means you might be able to play another character, have them join that faction, and buy the armor for your warrior?
Though i also thought the stuff in the PVP locker could be gotten by anyone in the PVP area anyway.
Many people thought the atkins diet worked, Many people think homoeopathy works, Many people still think pluto is a planet…
PLUTO WILL ALWAYS BE A PLANET DANGIT! In my day there were nine planets and there will ALWAYS be nine planets!
Now git off mah lawn! [waves cane]
plus this orb thing, which simply give a huge advantage to the already dominating side, making it impossible to get any ground back
Actually the orb in the Tarnished Coast borderlands bugged out, so we permanently have it now. Dragonbrand, despite its domination, can’t get more than two orbs.
So there’s that.
Dragonbrand. We at Tarnished Coast are getting crushed.
We’re against Dragonbrand, not Darkhaven
Oh right, wrong three-syllable-two-word-starting-with-D server. My bad.
And yet you’re still dominating Maguuma and Tarnished Coast.
Come to Tarnished Coast if you want. We may be the unofficial RP server, but we’ve been holding our own. In the Points Ranking we’re smack dab in the middle, not too high (So we don’t have hours of queues) and not too low (So we’re not trashed by everything). A little boost could help.
Especially now, facing against the goons in Dragonbrand.
There was no alliance between Maguuma and DB .. we were even camping their spawn for 20 mins or so, right before we turned our attention on your orb. Sorry to dissapoint you. The DB guilds in TC that night has a plan, and it worked. It’s been typical zerg chaos for the most part, since.
It had appeared like there was an alliance. All war in the south section of our borderlands stopped, and both sides started charging northwards at about the same time, taking our keeps almost simultaniously. If it wasn’t an alliance it was surprisingly lucky on both your parts.
