Yes. Why do you need so many earrings? They’re not that much stronger than exotics, you don’t need them for EVERY character, and I’m pretty sure you can get them through Guild Commendations and Fractal Relics too anyway.

Flame and Frost leading to improved Southsun

Chessrook.8643

If you go to the refugee area in LA and ask around, you find out that the Consortium has showed up and is helping out. They’re providing food and water, and there’s talk of building houses in Southsun for the refugees.

This would lead to a small town or colony. Which would lead to a greater NPC population in Southsun. Which would lead to more events as the people there try to survive. Which means there will actually be things to do there beyond farm karka.

It may not be PERFECT, but it’s a bit of variety from Orr, it’s closer to LA (meaning lower travel costs), and shows that ANet is listening to some people asking for a reason to go to Southsun now.

Guildcraft: Applying RTS logic to WvW

Nice to see input on the strategy that there IS in the game. I look on the forums and… I know there’s small groups here and there, but you hear about people talking about the zerg so much, and the zerg is talked about so often in the Team or Map chat, you just don’t hear about the strategy very often. When I see a commander, almost every time he/she is just escorting a zerg about.

Maybe I’d just like to see one really effective use of tactics. Say a zerg attacking the NW part of the Garrison, or a treb assaulting a wall, distracting the enemy from the small group of four ramming down the watergate. I dunno.

Either way, the conversation has certainly been interesting.

Very true. What I’d like to see is real WvW guilds that actually have that discipline you speak of. Actually forming ranks and using the right classes at the right times. Guardians at the front putting up reflection walls to protect their elementalists raining fire and ice in the distance! Warriors charging to the front, screaming, distracting the enemy from the thieves sneaking up and stabbing them in the back! Mesmers mixed with the warriors, making the force seem bigger than it is! Rangers and Necromancers providing ranged support! Engineers…. uh… doing whatever engineers do!

You know, actual planning and usage of the different classes beyond “EVERYONE RUN FORWARD AND ATTACK!”

Chessrook.8643

Every time I hear the zerg argument, I think back to the origin of the term, and how that situation applies. I think back to Starcraft. Because WvW, big as it is, when you think about it is basically an RTS without a commander (Unless someone spent 100 gold).

Now think… Starcraft had three sides. The Zerg, who brought immense amounts of units onto the field with low health and cost… the Protoss, who brought small amounts of units onto the field with high health and high cost… and the Terrans, who were in the middle.

Here’s the thing though… in server war like this, you can’t control the “Cost” to field units. The only cost is the amount of manpower present in the server. Health and Power is also tossed out the window, as due to having to balance everything there’s no chance for different servers to have different stats. So no matter what, you’re always faced with the same sides facing each other. Zerg Vs Zerg. Protoss Vs Protoss. Terran Vs Terran.

Now those of you who have played Starcraft, or any RTS, think about what the battles were like when you had two of the exact same civilizations or races or whatever facing each other. I may not be an expert, but they eventually turned into a race of “Who can get the higher tech first?” Or, if starting with max tech level, “Who can get more resources first?”
Or, when all is even, when the tech is highest and the resources are turned onto limitless from the start… “Who can get the most forces out the fastest?”

THAT is the reason for zerging. Because we are balanced. WvW is Terran Vs Terran with limitless resources. We don’t have the benefit of choosing where to build our barracks and our bunkers. We can’t even choose how many marines we have marching behind the flamethrowers with ghosts sniping from the hill. All we’re given is a handfull of random units. The closest I’ve even seen to using a specific unit’s skill or ability is telling Guardians to put walls of reflection in narrow corridors or something, and the only unit control we have is siege.

So the few of you out there who are RTS players, think to yourself… when you have limitless resources, fixed points, and little to no control over unit production, with your opponent under the exact same situation….. how do you fight? How many options do you really have?

I dunno, maybe there’s more to it now that I think of it. Maybe I’m just rambling and want to start a discussion. I dunno.

I’m going for The Flameseeker Prophecies… hey, I’m a bit of an RPer, and thematically it fits the character of my Guardian (A historian who specializes in studying the period of time between the Searing and the fall of the Great Destroyer… yes, the original GW games)
I’m gathering things as I go, so not really grinding. That said, I have the Gift of Exploration, the Gift of Ascalon, and almost have enough for the Mastery gift: 198 skill points on my warrior and about 320 Badges of honor. I can buy all the Obsidian Shards I need at any time, I’m just waiting… just in case.
On the other hand, I have about 20 bones, dust, and poison sacs, with less than 20 of each of the other rare mats, and only about 30 ectos (I had used several to craft fully exotic armor and weapons for my warrior. I liked the Draconic.). Also across my characters I have only around 30 gold or so. Other mats though, like the various metals and the like, I’m getting plenty of as the game moves on. Still don’t have the precursor, and haven’t even TRIED yet.

Compared to many of you I’m barely on my first steps, but we all started somewhere. I got a big grin on my face when I got the gift of Ascalon last night, because… well…

Like I said. I’m not a grinder. I’m getting them as I go. I don’t make hundereds of thousands of gold, and even in GW1 I think I only had around 150-200 plat at most.

So for me, I’ll be happy when I finally get me my legendary. It’ll be a long time coming, but I’ll get it eventually.

I thought dailies would be a “rewarding Tyrian adventure” type of thing, where you get a list of world Events the player has the level requirement to partecipate to, i.e.:
- Kill Gargantula
- Complete 3 events in Bloodtime coast
- Defeat the Centaur King in Harathi Highlands

So you REALLY want to end up with 68 people standing around where Gargantula spawns, waiting until it appears at which point they all down it in six seconds?

Yeah, real good idea there. Top notch.

Parallels between the Elder Dragon defenders?

in Lore

Posted by: Chessrook.8643

Chessrook.8643

Pretty simple… I’m wondering if there are parallels between the current five races standing against the dragons and the five who stood against them last time.

Currently we have Humans, Charr, Asura, Sylvari, and Norn.

The ancient races who faced the Elder Dragons were the Mursaat, Seers, Forgotten, Dwarves, and Jotun. So my question is, do you think, from what we know of the ancient races, there are parallels to the current races?

While I don’t know TOO much, I feel like the Forgotten might be parallel to Humans, Jotun parallel to Norn, and Mursaat parallel to Asura. Would that make Sylvari parallel to Seer, and Charr parallel to Dwarves?

Really? I didn’t know that. I wonder why my fights are interrupted so often. I guess its just bad luck.

Oh well, thanks for clarifying that.

Most likely. See one person, you should usually assume he has at least one buddy with him. People quickly learn that running around solo can usually end with death. Especially if you’re in enemy territory.

Exactly. Which is why the Watergate is so dangerous. Four players running up, taking out the NPCs, plopping down a ram and knocking it down is a completely viable stealth strategy if nobody runs down to take a peek at what that knocking noise is.

Especially if they’re distracted by the massive trebuchet giving them white swords on the NE wall.

Name: Ying/Yang
Description: a matching set of daggers (one black one white) signifying the duality and change that happens in in nature.
Effect(s) They glow with a slight aura; each with it’s own color. These daggers make your footprints into the ying/yang symbol while wielding them.
Properties: Upon defeating a creature, thus changing it from alive to dead, make the user’s armor glow with a subtle grey outline.

I like this idea. Though I’d make one dagger named Yin, that’s a white blade with a black hilt, and the other named Yang, a black blade with a white hilt. Perhaps they wouldn’t have any special appearances UNLESS they were weilded together, causing something similar to that.
