Poor Rangers….Then again, a large majority of the class relies on passive mechanics (spirits, pets, signets, etc.) and doing boring things like laying down traps that do nothing until triggered.

Welcome to Guild Wars!

The place where OP builds get nerfed, because you guessed it…. They’re OP.

From their ashes, other OP builds rise up. Then, they too get nerfed after awhile.

It’s the circle of life!

except for warriors. They somehow escape the circle of life and have Arenanet’s loved ones held hostage to prevent any new nerfs to their class.

I agree with Volkon. This is an MMO, with an ever changing world. There should be no finish line. There should be no 100%.

And also. Why would you even count Dailies and Monthlies, and even Living World Achievements in your quest to get to the finish line? The Finish Line should only include permanent achievements anyhow. Dailies and Monthlies are meant to be distractions, not something to be religiously done every day, and if you are really not concerned about leaderboards and only a finish line, there is no reason to change the way achievements work.

I think we just need more variety overall. I always prefer “sex-appeal” over “practicality” in games so long as it’s not outrageous/beyond ridiculous, but what constitutes as outrageous and ridiculous to me may not be the same as someone else. I’m quite liberal, so I’m not really ever offended by sex-appeal in either direction. I prefer skirts to dresses just like I prefer corsets to coats, and heels to shoes. Armor can be very stylish without being too skimpy, but a lot of the time a little bit of skimp is required for style. Figure hugging, etc.

I’m not sure that 99% of the armor in this game even qualifies as Skimpy or having sex appeal, especially by Terra standards for example.

also, I bolded that part of my post on accident, just meant to have one word underlined and bold, but I was too lazy to fix it, and still am. To clarify anyways, there isn’t really much of a problem with any of the armor in this game. Heels and Skirts, and breastplates that don’t even cover the breasts…. woopdee friggen doo! Each armor class has plenty of fully body covering armor, and not actually that many revealing armors, even compared to GW1.

The only thing that gets me (And what was the originaly point of this thread) is that some of the female armor looks so much different than the male versions, its like two entirely different people had a different vision for it and designed the two sets differently….why? Why even bother to name it the same when it obviously looks nothing like its counterpart?

and also also, So long as the game stays the way it is now, and the characters actually look like they are wearing clothes, and it doesn’t devolve into what Terra looks like, I think the armor in guild wars 2 is fine.

little late,…finally getting around to this….

  • Pin Down: Added a telegraph animation to the skill. Increased the cast time from 1/4 second to 3/4 second.

Finally, I was getting tired of getting a sudden 5 second immobilize and not having any idea where it came from. However, I do not consider this a nerf on the Warrior profession since it still applies a 3 second immobilize without any condition duration, and when combined with ‘Throw Bolas’…, and you compare your immobilization options with those of other classes….., yeah, just run around behind the player and attack away since they cant turn. I find it hilarious that there were comments on these forums complaining about this change. Don’t worry guys, you can still defeat all us lesser professions with no problem still! (sarcasm)

all other profession changes I have no opinion on except for Ranger.

On the Ranger Changes…..

  • I don’t see any benefit or nerf to Viper’s nest getting a poison field, only that it adds another option to how we put down a poison field.
  • Spirit of Nature is still a very powerful skill after this ‘fix’, I agree with that, to a degree. Its powerful, until it gets killed 4 seconds after summoning, then its a useless skill, not powerful, until it comes off of cooldown.
  • Keen edge change is a good change.

On the ‘Amazing things coming to the Ranger and all classes’ that you can’t talk about yet……Yeah….Anet has said similar things before, so, Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice ,…. you know the rest.

Until I know what exactly those changes are that you cannot tell us, I refuse to hope or wait for any ‘amazing’ things unless physical proof shows that they are amazing.

The conversation might have evolved a little, but the solutions sure haven’t gotten any better.

I still think that the best system would be to have Leaderboards expanded and make it to where we have seperate leaderboards that track Total, Permanent, Daily, Monthly, and temporary Living World Achievements. Let people filter out what they want to and don’t want to see. This way, the most dedicated will still be the highest achievers in all the land, and those that don’t want to do all the dailies anymore, will still be on top of their respective leaderboards.

Oh, and frankly, the idea of full plate heavily hindering movement is a myth. A fit, trained person used to plate armor will be able to move just like a normal person. Maybe hindered slightly in flexibility, but movement would not be harmed. A mesmer who probably doesn’t work out as much would actually be slower then a warrior or guardian who spends massive amounts of time exercising and keeping in top shape.

Fun fact about full plate armor. Despite the fact that Plate armor covered the body from head to toe by the 15th century in Europe, someone who is trained for combat in full plate armor actually has greater freedom of movement than Samurai of the same time period, similarly trained for combat in their armor.

On the armor looks so I’m on topic, I will always prefer practical looking over sex appeal, even in a game which is clearly a fictional world.

bare minimum, you need double-digit results. So 10 rare dyes. For decent results, you need triple-digit (100 rare dyes). good results needs quadruple-digits. I’m not talking how many kits you opened, I’m talking how many rare dyes you got out of it.
It’s like precursor drop rates. You can’t say “I found 3 precursors in 3000 hours of playing, therefore the drop rate is 1/1000 hours”. that just isn’t enough sample size. bare minimum, when someone finds 10 we can guestimate the drop rate.
it’s hard finding the drop rate for rare things like this, because the sample size required is much larger than it at first appears. Look at the dragon coffer, to get the claim tickets. Some people open thousands and never see one, others open 10 and get one. you just can’t open 10,000, get one, then say they have a 1 in 10,000 chance to drop. it’s not a large enough sample size. When you receive 10 tickets, then we can start to talk. 100 and we can state percent drop rates.
wiki estimates you’d get 5.4 tickets from 6,000 dragon coffers. I would say that 6,000 would not be enough to get a good drop rate. By my calculations, you would have a 23.8% chance at 5, 23.3% chance at 6, 16.9% chance at 4, 15.6% chance at 7, 8.2% chance at 3, 6.8% chance at 8, 2.6% chance at 2, 1.8% chance at 9. It’s far too likely to get something other than the average.
6,000 is a really good sample size for ecto drop rates because you get more than 5,000 ectos out of it: 5,000 is a far better sample size than 5.

Oh, hey, lookie there! I was right, and you totally wasted that wall of text on me. I don;t even need to write any new text to give you a response. Just read what I already posted:::

I bet that during Dragon bash if I posted the exact results of the 6000 or so dragon coffers I opened, people like you will still try to say the sample size wasn’t big enough either, and people like you will forever be unsatisfied until Anet posts the exact chances (which will probably never happen). So…., you go on ahead and wait. I prefer REAL RESULTS, BIG OR SMALL, regardles of yours or others’ opinion on what sample size should be.

Seriously, if you disagree with my statements for dye kit drop rates, then go buy a few dye kits and prove me wrong, or post a link to someone else who did some research into the drop rates. Until then, without any proof from your side, my research is the most correct. Doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not.

Well I played Runes of Magic and most of your stats depended on the use of cashshop-items.

Edit: I’m not saying that GW2 is that way, I’m just saying that the argument that you can buy cash-shop currency with gold or whatever applys for many games (RoM is by far not the only one) which require cash-shop purchases to stay competitive in end-game and pvp. (RoM had a gift function, but the principle was similar: pay gold to someone and get the cashshop-item from him)

Can you elaborate on what exactly it was that you had to buy to stay competitive in those games?

….

Well I played Runes of Magic and most of your stats depended on the use of cashshop-items.

No more elaboration than that is needed. That cash shop let you buy stat boosts and other such things that puts you at a competing level with top tier players who grinded for many hours to get to that level.

Sure, people always try to argue (normally not very well I might add), that you can just grind your way through the game, and buy everything with ingame money without ever spending a penny.

That is generally a pathetic argument because the moment you have the ability to spend real world money for an advantage of any kind over another player, no matter how big or small, and no matter if you can obtain it by just grinding it out, the game becomes pay to win, because you don’t need to invest time anymore to get your power or advantage, or minor convenience. You only need a few dollars.

(edit, and yes, I think those unlimited gathering tools are pay-to-win because they let you do exactly that. I do not believe that is a bad thing, but, the PRECEDENT set by Anet in allowing people to purchase ever powerful gathering tools to give them even more convenience for less ingame effort is definitely a scary thing, and Anet needs to address it. We’re at well over 600 posts between this thread and the one that was locked. Its time for a response.)

Before people start arguing whether the pick is pay to win or not, you should probably define what “win” means. If “winning” gw2 means getting to max level, having best gear, and having the rarest items, then gw2 is already pay to win. Enter credit card, buy tons of gems, convert to gold, and buy legendary, buy materials to craft to lvl 80 in a few hours, buy full exotic armor, buy ascended mats to make ascended armor, buy all the super rare expensive skins to make your character look cool. These are the things most people are trying to accomplish as they spend countless hours playing the game, and you can accomplish them all easily by simply spending money.

You’re missing a key part of the definition on how that phrase originated. It was based on players spending real money to get items that put them at a significant advantage over other players who had no access to those items without spending real money as well.

The word I bolded in your definition is subjective. I don’t find it a significant advantage.

Here’s the question though. Does it give them a single advantage at all, no matter how big or small it is?

1: We need to keep thread and post sizes more manageable. Should we put a limit on the word length of posts?
2: How are we going to chose topics moving forward, for example, by votes or by Anet choosing them etc?

Chris

1: as much as I like posting walls of text that requires peope to hire a sherpa and buy some oxygen tanks, just so they can read it through to the end…….it definitely doesn’t make it very accessible. There are always posts that say “I haven’t read everything yet”, then we get duplicate posts saying the same things even though we might have already ground that topic into dust and moved on. The giant length of the posts is definitely one of the causes (also the several thousand replies that you have to read through). I have no solution for this one. I’ll leave it for other people…

2: Combination of the two? Anet chooses a few that they think would get the most feedback and make the most sense for the game, then asks us which one we want to do next, and we vote?

That way, we don’t get an entire CDI on flying mounts that make no sense in a game like this.

I stared reading this post outraged. And then I stopped be outraged and started being smart. The amount of Watchwork Sprockets you will get from this pick will be tiny compared with just buying gems to gold and then TP. There is nothing wrong with this pick at all. It’s a cosmetic skin, with COSMETIC loot. No one will buy this skin and make money from it. They will buy the skin for the looks, and the way its passive fits its theme.

tl;dr. the pick will LOSE you money, making it pay to LOSE.

Perhaps you should have continued to read, as you missed the point entirely.

The issue is the precedent. What is to say a new pick doesn’t come out in a month which gives a 40% chance at sprockets? Then in a year every hit.

The issue is TRUST and customer satisfaction. Right now I have no reason to believe any purchase I make will not get trumped and therefor have no reason to buy from the shop.

Yes, technological progress sucks. We should stop getting new things because they might be better than old things and that will make old people mad that their old things aren’t new things with new things added to them.

You would have a point if technology limited these items. Instead it’s artificial limitation, or lack of foresight on a net’s marketing team. These are not washing machines.

if you honestly have that little faith in the devs. Then go find another game. Every “slippery slope” argument operates of the idea that the devs are permanently looking for ways to cheat us. Anyone who genuinely believes that this is their goal should go find a different game.

The devs aren’t trying to cheat us, that is not the problem here, and never was. Neither is the fact they are just trying to make a buck or two in the absence of a subscription fee or paid expansion(big full featured expansion or small dlc pack sized expansion).

I see no reason to buy this new item that is better than the old mining pick I bought,….if Anet is just going to make another mining pick in 6 months that ends up being even better. Thats an endless gear treadmill in a way, one you have to pay for in the gem store no less, and it is something Anet has promised would never happen in this game.

Me and many other people just want some clarification on what Anet’s plans are as far as these items go.

Thanks, Aquila, I was about to respond to that.
I got the 3% value from: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flame_Dye_Kit/Drop_rate
on that page, contributors reported from 97 dye kit openings. the number of rares dyes they got: 3, 3, 0, 1, 6, 5. I average that to 3, which is about 3%.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Frost_Dye_Kit/Drop_rate reports 1.5% each (based off 34 dyes)

it would be a mistake to assume these seasonal dye kits have the same drop rates as unid dyes. it may be the case that they do, but we can’t assume that until shown to be true.
Either way, it’s a lottery. in a lottery you pay $1 for a small chance at $1,000,000. you shouldn’t be disappointed when you lose because you will lose 999,999 times out of a million. a million is huge. a million hours is 114 years. this is the same thing but smaller. you pay 7.5g for a small chance at something worth 40g. you’re going to lose at least 4 out of 5 times.

now I really want to celebrate my million-hour birthday! mine will be on 7/10/2098

Your math is….kind of…awful. How did you go from 3% to 18%? And if your chances are 3%, buying 5 dye kits instead of 1 doesn’t suddenly make your chances of getting a rare dye higher. They stay at 3% for each individual case, no matter how many you buy.

There are 6 differentrare dyes. So if the chance is 3% each, his calculation would be right.
But I don’t know if it’s 3% chance per rare dye or 3% chance for one out of 6.

here’s the thing with that though..

If each of the 25 dyes in a Flame Dye kit has equal chances of dropping, then each one would have a 1 in 25 chance, or 4%. If that were the case, then yes, indeed, you would have a 24% chance of getting a rarer dye, a 1 in 4 chance roughly.

Since we can safely establish that you have a better chance of getting the common dyes before you get uncommon dyes, and uncommon dyes before you get rare dyes, what would we put the actual chances of a new dye at?

We can figure that out by buying 100 unidentifies dyes, since the chances of a common, uncommon, and rare dye are probably similar to that and all other dye kits.

For science, I spent 34 gold for 100 unidentified dyes. Here are the results:::
12 Rare Dyes
11 Uncommon Dyes
76 Common Dyes

Even though 100 dye kits is a small sample size and the results are a little warped (as evidenced by me getting fewer uncommon dyes than rare), you can already see a pattern developing.

So, for this post, lets say the chances of getting a common dye is 70%, an uncommon dye is 20%, and a rare dye is 10%.

There are 181 common dyes, your chances of getting any one are 0.38%.
There are 119 uncommon dyes, your chances of getting any one are 0.17%
There are 82 Rare dyes, your chances of getting any one are 0.12%

…..(intermission, went to fight Claw of Jormag with only 8 people……, killed it with barely 60 seconds to spare……second most epic boss fight ever!)

Alright, now, since the gemstore dye kits have only 25 dyes, your chances of getting any one are a little better. Now, assuming that the unique dyes are thrown in the same group as the old rares, we have these chances ::::

  • There are 6 common dyes, but still a 70% chance to get anyone of them. Your individual chances are 11.6% every time you open a Flame dye kit.
  • There are 5 Uncommon dyes, but still a 20% chance to get anyone of them. Your individual chances are 4%, every time you open a Flame dye kit.
  • There are 14 Rare dyes, but still a 10% chance to get anyone of them. Your individual chances are 0.71%, every time you open a Flame dye kit.
  • Since there are only 6 unique dyes in the Flame dye kit, your chances of getting one of the new dyes sits at 4.26%.
  • Even if the chances of getting a rare dye was doubled in these dye kits, the chances of getting a unique dye still sits at less than 10%.

- So, using the smaller number, in putting gemstore prices at about 7.5 gold, you would have to buy 23 dye kits, 176 gold worth of gems to reliably get, just 1 dye.
- Using the bigger number, lets put the chances at 1 in 10 instead, you would still have to buy 10 dye kits, or 75 gold worth of gems to reliably get just 1 unique dye. thats 1000 gems for one dye.

That does not coincide with trading post prices, especially with the newer dyes, because the market flooded with them at first, regardless of how much gold and money players spent on them, and excess supply is still being sold off. If the chances at a unique dye was really 1 in 4, or even 18%, then the prices of all of them would be much lower right now.

I’m not trying to say its a bad thing that the RNG works like this, I’m just saying that people need to be warned about the realistic chances of getting something inside of these boxes. I’m not disappointed, but there are way too many posts that talk about how disappointed they are because they didn’t know what the chances were.

and also, since you can’t buy those dye kits anymore, the prices already went back up. I reccomend investing in some if you haven’t already, and offload them when the price atleast doubles.

The problem with Ranger damage is that too much of the Ranger Profession relies on Passive effects, traits, pets, and spirits.

That’s what I’m attempting to fix at least with the spirit changes. I’m straying away from traits right now because even though traits are entirely passive effects, they require skill activation to trigger them. If I can change the feel of how ranger skills contribute to the battlefield, I can indirectly balance traits without directly addressing them for now.

Yeah, except that some of your changes make no sense.

Like the shortbow for example. Right now, it takes roughly half a second inbetween damage ticks when using autoattack. You want to increase the cast time to 3/4 second, and aftercast to .25 seconds?

Well, cast time and aftercast together are already roughly 1/2 second because of the animation when using the skill….., and you want to double that to 1 second. You want to double the time inbetween damage ticks, but only increase the physical damage it does by about 16%? And since you didn’t specify how the bleed works, Im assuming it stays the same, meaning that the bleed aspect gets a 50% damage nerf?

uh….where’s the logic in that? I see that you want to increase the damage that skill 2 does, but, its not enough to offset the damage reduction from the autoattack, meaning that instead of encouraging more active play, it just makes the weapon all around weaker.

Assuming that the description on the kits is an accurate assumption of the probability of receiving an exclusive dye, the the probability on each kit is 24% (6/25).

Drop rate research on any dye kit confirms that your chances to get common dyes are higher than uncommon dyes, which are higher than the chances to get rare dyes. Its just like opening an unidentified dye. It might not be as low as 3%, but, it is considerably lower than a 1 in 4 chance that you and many other keep trying to insist, when its clearly not the case.

500 gems for 5 dyes
100 gems cost 7.8g
that’s 7.8g per dye
looks like the rare ones have about a 3% chance of dropping = 18% chance of a rare one = 1 rare one every 5.55 dyes = 43.3g for a rare dye. So 43.3g should be the average price of one of these rare dyes. let’s head over to spidy:
charred dye = 75g
cinders dye = 40g
flame dye = 70g
flare dye = 30g
molten dye = 35g
pyre dye = 100g
average = 58.3g
buying dye kits is a good deal!

Your math is….kind of…awful. How did you go from 3% to 18%? And if your chances are 3%, buying 5 dye kits instead of 1 doesn’t suddenly make your chances of getting a rare dye higher. They stay at 3% for each individual case, no matter how many you buy.

If you spend 7.8 gold for a single dye kit, and if the drop chance is 3%, that means that you have to buy 33 dye kits on average to get 1 of the rarer dyes. 33 × 7.8 = 257.4 gold. None of the dyes are worth that much.

….see, this is what I’m talking about here. People have no idea just how much of a gold sink this actually is.

People really need to stop throwing around words like con, scam, etc like it can be applied to anything you don’t agree with. A con would be for example someone selling you a pill they claim cures cancer, aids, etc when in fact it is just a Flintstones vitamin pill.

Actually, there would be some truth to that con, because getting your daily vitamins are known to reduce the chances at getting cancer. Since getting cancer at old age is pretty much inevitable for most people, delaying when cancer sets in could actually be considered a temporary cure.

I’m not calling Anet’s Gem store a con, but, all cons do have some truth to them.

Actually, i’m all for giving ranger pets power/condi scaling. I think it’s kinda silly when the ranger is able to go full tank/regen or condi and still have his pet doing high crits all day long.

That’s the point of the class though.

The thread I want a response to is https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Ranger-Balance-PvP-WvW-PvE-PvX/first

But I agree with this thread as well. We have been dealing with a broken mechanic since day one. Which other class has had a handicap of 30% of their damage for over a year now with no fixes? Just us. They finally admitted to the problem but they say that they won’t fix the problem. If they won’t fix the problem are they expecting us to be handicapped forever? I think after a year of this bullkitten we deserve to know what they are planning on doing for us.

Aside from pets which is between 20-40% of our damage, we also have to rely on traits for between 20-35% increase in our damage, spirits for another 7%, and Opening Strike traits for another 10%.

Its not just that Ranger’s can’t deal damage effectively when pets die, it that we can’t do damage effectively at all unless we rely on way too many passive effects that are loaded into only two of our trait lines.

And stop the worthless whining about Anet saying they aren’t going to fix the problem. Not a single person on Anet ever said that. They said that fixing pet AI without breaking millions of other things in the game was going to take TIME.

I would like for Anet to respond to our Ranger problems too, but unless they actually have something to say, what’s the point in responding?

Nope, sorry, Elementalists have also been largely ignored as well. Every profession that got a response has had 1 or 2 responses total. that doesn’t exactly show an inequality there.

And besides, this thread is asking Anet to tell us what amazing things are coming to the Ranger, when Anet already said that they can’t tell us about it yet.

What games are releasing in march?

as far as MMO’s releasing in that general timeframe, where release a nice big feature patch in march would make sense……
Wildstar has a Q1/Q2 release date (so march/april)
Elder Scrolls Online has an April 4th release date.

And those 2 are the biggest releases of the year as far as MMO’s are concerned.

Just wanted to add Final Fantasy XIV to that list. Its already out, but releasing on the PS4 on April 14th. There are actually quite a few people that didn’t want to buy the game until the Ps4 version was released.

So that’s actually 3. 3 of the biggest released of the year as far as MMO’s go is happening in March-April timeframe, which..I’m just saying, for any MMO,….its the perfect time to release a big, giant feature patch in an attempt to keep players playing.

I can’t believe they haven’t responded yet to any of our threads. Yet all other professions are getting responses on their threads. I think we’re the only class that hasn’t received a response on this forum yet. The silence we are receiving from Anet is what makes us apprehensive and mad because we are feeling ignored, yet the silence continues. I’ve been in retail business for a long time, been managing for a really long time. There is one saying that I truly believe in which this company seems to fail miserably at, and that’s ‘over communicate to dominate’. I also believe in lead by example, which is why I would love to see a dev play a ranger class in WvW. Which is something that I’m sure no one has seen, I know I haven’t. Speaking of which, can we have a list of the Dev’s that play ranger’s in WvW and what server they are on because I would love to visit that server and see these dev’s and how they play their ranger’s. Since they are not responding to our threads here that must mean it’s a L2P issue so I would love to see these guys in action so I can learn how to play my class.

also, Just want to say that since the livestream, they have responded to only two threads. The Necromancer’s Lich Form, and the Mesmer’s Deceptive Evasion threads. That doesn’t exactly scream “Rangers are ignored!!!!”

Last I heard, there were two – yes, two! – people working on the all-important class balance and 40+ – yes, more than forty – working on the Living Story updates. If that still holds true today then you should probably pencil Rangers in as second-class citizens for the foreseeable future.

Well, you see. Balancing Professions is something that no other MMO has ever done before in any form, so, there’s a learning curve behind it. Arenanet is still learning how that process works. Once they perfect the never been done before process of balancing professions, then you’ll see skilled Rangers able to take on skilled Warriors, and maybe, possibly, the more skilled of the two will win the battle instead of the one with higher armor, hp, and dps. (/sarcasm)

And also, Anet promised that “Amazing” things were coming to the Ranger in the future, but they can’t talk about it yet. So just wait, maybe in a year, Rangers will be the ones telling everyone else how pathetic and utterly broken the Warrior class is!

(okay, I’ll admit, I couldn’t keep a straight face as I typed that, because none of it will ever be true)

No Destiny's Edge 2.0 confirmed? Is it true?

Maybe we should post a P.S.A. in the Living world forums whenever something like this releases (dye kits, southsun supply crates, etc.) and make sure that players 100% know their poor chances of getting soemthing?

Anet’s not going to start releasing dyes or anything else for a quantifiable value anytime soon, even if it does make more sense, since people have a tendency to spend more money on things they know they have a 100% chance of getting. But, if they respond to that comment, I bet they’ll probably say that they are still ‘learning’ how their own gem store works like how they are still ‘learning’ how their own living world works,…over a year after they started it.

…although, they would get alot more actual money instead from me if their microtransactions actually gave me ‘something I wanted’, instead of a random ‘chance’ at something.

Just want to point out that I never said March, I made a not-serious statement about Anet releasing a balance patch in march in response to other MMO’s getting released (there is no timeframe in there) so don’t try to get technical on me.

If Anet really is releasing a big balance patch in March in direct response to other MMO’s getting released (as people are suggesting on this thread, and many other places too), then I will leave and stop playing Guild Wars 2 anyways. Finally commiting the resources to Release a balance patch with stuff that should’ve been fixed over a year ago in response to the possibility of losing customers is quite a pathetic thing to do and it is not going to save Anet or Guild Wars 2 in the end, no matter how hard they keep trying to push “Free to Play” and “Expansion pack worth of content!”

…Luckily for us, that isn’t Anet! However, for Anet’s statement about “Amazing things for Ranger, and other professions” to be anywhere near the definition of Amazing (causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing) and also be true(in accordance with fact or reality), they have to fix some serious problems that have been crippling the Ranger profession since day 1.

I spend 80 gold for 10 dye kits, got 1 illumination dye 2 Charcoal dyes… and milion common dyes…. if that is normal… kitten me..

Its actually 100% normal to open 10 dyes and not get a single one of the unique colors. The odds were even worse with one particular item during the living world last year. The Southsun Supply Crate was the item, and the chances at getting the Sclerite weapon claim tickets were quite freakishly small. Infact, I’m pretty sure that those microscopic odds were the reason why they cost 3 black lion tickets instead of 5.

So, I had 3000 gems lying around, so I decided to buy a bunch of those Dye kits. I bought two of each that was on sale (Flame, Frost, and Toxic), try my luck, and see what I would get. depensing on what I got I would spend 3000 more gems on more research.

The Attached Screenshot shows exactly what I got for paying 3000 gems (or about $37.50 if you buy with cash instead of gold). Since the dye kits had about a 3.3% chance to give something new (and what little drop rate research that can be found on the wiki confirms this as well), I decided to not try to spend anymore since the chances were pretty darn small, and I didn’t want to spend anymore gold on trying.

To Players that have cash and gold to spare ::: (like me!)
Go for it. Maybe your incessant gambling habits will pay off someday, or maybe it has paid off already!

To players who want this stuff but not much cash or gold:::
You need to think very, very, very, very, very, very, very, Very carefully before you spend actual money, or ingame gold for a “chance” at something. the chances are so ridiculously small that you will be disappointed roughly 97% of the time. Research from me and other players confirms it.

If you don’t like RNG (which stands for RANDOM Number Generator), do not buy these things. You will end up with more ingame gold if you just trade your gems for gold instead and buy these dyes off the trading post, rather than buying anything that has a random chance at something. They are not worth the disappointment.

Chrispy.5641

After posting some comments here, and reading the responses and reading a little more of the thread, there are 5 things I want to say:::

(1) – No one on this thread is a Troll, Low AP guys or High AP guys, and the fact that there are posters saying that someone should be ignored because they don’t even have 10,000 AP, and the fact that there are posters saying the opposite is not really helping this discussion at all.

(2) – There does seem to be a disconnect with what was being suggested at first, and there are several different suggestions going around as well. There is one suggestion asking for a hard limit of 5 AP a day for dailies, no matter how many dailies you do, and there is another that is calling for a hard cap of 10,000 (or 5,000 or whatever) AP on Dailies period, and there are actually issues with both…

On the 5 AP cap a day, there is a problem with that, because there isn’t anyone who is going to do something for nothing*, and the reason why alot of things get done in this game is bcause of the dailies that award something for doing it.

*If you did something for fun, then it wasn’t for nothing. If you did something that wasn’t fun and still got an AP, then it also wasn’t for nothing.

On the Daily AP cap (that is in the many thousands somewhere) , that has issue as well, because if you cap it at 5,000, and there are many players that have 7,000+ from dailies will see a drop in their Achievement points very suddenly, ticking alot of them off. If you cap it at 10,000, that kind of just sounds like an abitrary limit that posters in this thread so far have set because they are kind of close to that number, and there may be players that are already at that number, or passed that number. If you cap it at 20,000, then no casual player will ever reach that limit. Some AP hunters are going to keep doing what they see as ‘unfun’ anyways and reach that number within a year, and others are just going to stop playing because of the unreachable goal.

Setting a hard cap on anything isn’t going to impress everyone, and any one of these solutions is going to tick off a large part of the player base no matter what.

(3) – Daily Achievements, are not really Achievements…. Oh look! I gathered 20 items….Oh Joy! I slaughtered 20 helpless rabbits, frogs, snakes, raccoons, and misquitos…. OH SNAP! I talked to a Laurel Vendor….wait, what?

Those are achievements? More like things I was going to do anyways. There isn’t really a reason for these to count towards a leaderboard anyways, but, that isn’t enough of a reason to get rid of them, not without ticking off alot of players….or is there a way to make everyone happy? Leads me to the next thing I was to say….

(4) – I want to suggest that Anet doesn’t touch the way Daily Achievements work in the game at all. Instead, I suggest that a Leaderboard get made for all Achievement Points, and a Seperate Leaderboard gets made for Permanent Achievements, Daily Achievements, and Monthly Achievements. The game tracks all of those seperately, and The Online Leaderboards Needs to be Expanded anyways.

You can’t really complain about that. You can stop doing dailies, and still be on top of a leaderboard because you did all the permanent achievements. If you don’t want to do all dailies…so what? you drop down the ranking in the overall leaderboard. You’re still on top in the Permanent AP board.

(5) – I have 7,714 AP. 5003 are permanent, 2013 are daily, and 698 are monthly. I’m not at the bottom, nor am I anywhere close to the top. I am in the top 90% of players with AP, though, anyone with over 3,500 AP is in the top 90%.

What does that mean? A VAST MAJORITY of Players in Guild Wars 2 don’t even have Achievement points at the levels we are talking about. That doesn’t mean that we should be ignoring anyone with less AP, or more AP.

It doesn’t matter if you have 20,000 AP, or 0 AP. Any changes to the system still affects all of us, and everyone should be entitled to their opinion on any changes made. It doesn’t matter who you are. But when you come up with a solution, it should be a meaningful solution to the problem that has as little of an effect on as many people as possible.

OP, you could always try the Dolyak Express. =)

Why are the arguments for more choice ‘bogus’? You want fewer ‘tasks’ to achieve, and others want more. You, too, have a choice. Remember, you expressly agreed (by accepting the ToS) that you had no issues that would cause you distress when playing the game.

Turning the dailies into a meta like the LS ones would be ideal imo. Have all the dailies worth 0AP and then reward 10 or so AP in the chest that has your coin/karma/luck/laurel already. With this system you folks that like to do them all in WvW can still do that(I probably would most days too) and AP hunters like myself and the rest of the top100 can relax and enjoy the game like we did at launch. Every day I do all the PvE achieves and 6/8 (or more if I have time) of the PvP avchieves, so already I don’t realistically see anyone catching up to me unless I stop playing altogether. So for someone to catch up, they’ll have to do the same or more work than me. With my idea in place, the same would still be true. A common argument to this being “Well what if I want more points in a day to push up to my next achievement reward?” Honestly I would love to push points up to 20k and get my next title but there’s already a hard cap on daily AP. Today it was 21. With the new LS it might be 22. Or 23. But those 21-23 points take, in most cases, several hours. There are easier and more rewarding ways to boost your AP. Do a JP you haven’t done. Or a dungeon. Or some activity achievement. There are, like all of you say, other options. Other choices. My choice is to enjoy GW2 as a completionist, as best as I can. My aim is to simply make it easier for us AP hunters and affect other players as little as possible.
Thank you all for reading thus far btw.

Your intentions sounds good. No one is debating that.

The Problem with your idea is that suddenly limiting achievement points when getting daily’s will limit players ability to get more Achievement Points. This is probably made worse by the fact that a rather large fraction of many people’s achievement points (including your own) come from daily achievements. If, instead of 21 seperate achievement points, your idea says that you can only ever get 5 or whatever limit Anet sets, that means you and anyone else in the top 100 (…top 1,000) automatically have an unfair advantage over every other player in the game. And many people with 10,000+ AP have already completed every jumping puzzle, dungeon, story mission, almost all slayer achievements. There is nothing they can do to catch up to you. You guys can relax as you said, and keep your reign atop the leaderboards while millions of other players will never be able to catch up.

To that, and you whole suggestion, I don’t just say no. I say heck no! If you want to stay on top of the AP leaderboard, then you should be spending several hours a day in order to make it so. It shouldn’t be some cakewalk activity that you get to do at the same pace as everyone else, ensuring that they never catch up. It is your own fault that you are getting burned out spending hours a day getting every last achievement point so you can stay atop the leaderboard. It is no fault of the game or the design of the system itself.

I don’t believe that anything that has impact on the personal story line of any race will be affected. I read in one interview way back during the Queen’s Jubilee that they entertained killing Queen Jenna, but she was involved in the personal story line so they couldn’t. (Don’t ask me where or who. I don’t remember.)

I can see non-story events and areas destroyed. Maybe the MAW or Fire Elemental or areas of cities that do not impact personal characters or the like.

Killing the queen would have interesting so we could see what sort of crazy thing Logan does to avenge her death (and I’m pretty sure it would have been insane, over the top, even deadpool aint got nothing on this kind of crazy)

Yes Nar, I am, one and the same.

Mark, I’ve tried repeatedly on the forums to get a reply and have even chatted with Izzy directly a couple times about the dailies and how completionist players like myself feel like it’s too much. To date, none of the CDI’s have really fit that category well enough for me to want to post there. Lots of us have even come up with really viable, helpful, and fair solutions to it. I guess I would just like to know how the AP team feels about it and hopefully get some insight on how much longer I “have to” slave away every day. Thank you for the reply though.

At this time last year, players were complaining because the 5 daily achievements every day forced you to play the way Anet wants you to. So Anet expanded the number of different achievements you could do, but left the number to complete your daily and get the reward at 5.

Now, a year later, people are complaining that there are too much to do? Could you explain that logic to me?

Wurmslayer armor makes me very sad......

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Looking at any MMO that exists out there, 90% of all equipment pieces in any game, are reskins of other pieces that exist in the game already. It doesn’t matter if it is WoW, Everquest, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Secret World, Guild Wars 2, Star Wars, or Wildstar. Hell, even many of Eve Online’s ships are reskinned versions of each other. You guys (players. not Anet) need to do a reality check when it comes to MMO’s before you go off complaining about reskinned items every single time you see one.

Me? I think the armor looks pretty good with the Globs of Poison forming up then dropping off of the gloves. There’s not enough poison related stuff in this game. We could also use more Crystal, Water, and Ice themed equipment, but, I’ll wait. Take your time Anet.

So because other MMO’s use a lot of reskins I should accept reskins. I got this game because Anet, players and youtubers made it sound like skins would play an important role in this game unlike other MMO’s. Yet it took them 15 months to release a new full armor set that’s not related to the gem store. And instead of releasing a new armor skin they make a reskin of a armor that has been released for only 1.5 months.
I’d say that’s pretty weird for a game where cosmetic stuff plays an important role.

I’m aware that other MMO’s use reskins a lot but I bought this MMO cuz they (Anet, players and youtubers) made it sound that it would play an important role like for example dungeons, that it wouldn’t be something like other MMO’s and not only MMO’s but other games as well but instead they aren’t doing anything different. I don’t get angry or sad when I see another reskin in a MMO like FFXIV cuz the developers, players and youtubers never made it sound like cosmetic stuff would be something to aim for, I don’t get angry or sad when I see another reskin in a game like Monster Hunter cuz the developers, players and youtubers never made it sound like cosmetic stuff would be something to aim for but in GW2 they did and that’s why I bought Guild Wars 2.

The only reality check I needed, and I was ashamed when I realized this, is that what developers, players and youtubers say doesn’t have to be true. However that and your reason is not a reason for me to accept what I see as flaws in this “Cosmetic MMO”.

Yeah, because giant globs of poison spit rolling off the armor doesn’t make it unique enough because it uses the same mesh as a previous item. And Cobalt, one of the most common greatswords you see players use, isn’t that awesome looking either because its a reskin too,……with blue fire! By your logic, everyone should be abhoring that weapon and refusing to equip it. But, they don’t which makes your entire argument invalid.
