Who says elder dragons have to be evil?

I never said that Genocide was good. I also never said that Drowning someone because you think they are evil is a good thing either. I meant that the Dragon Minions acts of evil are excused, but only to them from their point of view, since they probably don’t think or care that what they are doing is evil according to our, or our character’s point of view.

Infact, The Dungeon you keep refering to showcases their twisted point of view perfectly, and also shows their religious dedication to the Elder Dragon. So, not only do they probably not think or care about our or our character’s point of view on what is good or evil. They Don’t Care. Their Judgement is that those Women, Children, Mothers, Fathers, etc. must die, and it is a good thing that they die. They think that what they are doing is the best thing that ever happened.

All I’m saying is, is that there are multiple points of view, and multiple ways to view what ‘evil’ truely is in all its forms, not just ours. There are literally hundreds of different Moral Standpoints on this. Perspective, (relativism, whatever you want to call it) has everything to do with it.

If we are going by our morals as human beings in the real world (such as Americans and the rest of Western Culture),….well jeeze, we’ve gone to war because other Nations have done things like that, obviously WE think its Evil. Our Characters in the game are the same way, you have a bunch of dragons and their endless minions doing some very terrible things to them, so obviously to the Characters WE play as, they think of the Dragons as Evil.

I dont want to bring Religion into this, but, isn’t that the same as Christians and Muslims claiming to have “Peaceful” Religions, yet throughout history, they have killed, pillaged, assaulted, and tortured, not to mention the general treatment of women throughout history in both Religions? At the time (and still today in some cases), these religions didn’t just think, they “knew” that their totally “evil” actions were justified, but they never saw them as “evil” until long after the fact (and still don’t in some cases). Many Germans in WWII never saw their Genocidal actions as Evil. Many others did, but that doesn’t change the point of view of the ones who thought their actions were totally justified.

The only Reason why the Races of Tyria would say the Dragons are Evil is because there is no justification for what the Dragons and their Minions are doing to them and the rest of Tyria, but only in their minds, not the Dragon’s. But, put yourself in the mind of the Elder Dragon (or a real world fanatic, or Iran, or choose Germany or Japan during WWII) . They would think that not only are their actions Justified, but totally 100% not “evil” to their point of view. Only cliche Cartoon Villians would ever openly say and think that their actions are truely “evil”, otherwise, in the real world, and in 99% of all videogames, its an infinite number of shades of Gray inbetween.

What about Scarlet? Its Obvious she’s one crazed, wacked out, evil kitten, but does she think she’s the “evil” one from her point of view?

Edit: And What about the Sons of Svanir? Do they think that they are the Evil ones?

Thats why the Dragon Minion’s ‘evil’ acts are excused, because they themselves don’t see those acts as evil.

I think there are two questions here. Are the elder dragons we have seen evil? Are elder dragons necessarily evil?

For what we see in game the Elder Dragons are evil. They construct evil minions, recruit evil servants, and command them to persuade evil actions. This is shown for Zaitan everywhere, for Jormag on Honor of the Waves, and for Kralk in some personal stories.

I don’t think there is clear evidence that all Elder Dragons will be evil. However the known and recorded Elder Dragons have been devourers and this may be an innate part of their nature. They may all be greedy, avaricious, and jealous. Since they can devour or corrupt almost everything, perhaps nothing is worthy is respect. Any Elder Dragon that is not evil might have to limit its own devouring nature.

Evil is as much a matter of perspective as Jedi and Sith view each other, and as much a matter of perspective as Tolkien’s point of view on Technology = Bad and Nature = Good. Many people would find it hard to Agree with Tolkien because Technology has made our lives better in so many ways (better health, longer lifespan, better nutrition, etc.), but there are also many people who do agree with that point of view that technology is evil because of all the bad things it has brought with it (‘Climate Change’, cancers, poorer health in some cases, wars, famine, general laziness, etc)

Have you considered that the Dragon’s might view Humanity as the Evil ones? Maybe Zhaitan woke up and said ::: “These Dirty Pestilent Humans come to Our World, and they waste Our Food source? (magic). Oh no. Its on now! We need to Kick Humans Off the face of Tyria, and get rid of any other races affiliated with them. They are the evil ones!”

The above paragraph might be more important than you think, because what if the Dragons were the original Residents of Tyria, long before any other Race or creature came there through the Mists? Anet will never tell us about Tyria’s history that far back, but In this particular case, if its true, We’re the agressors, and the Dragons are just getting rid of the Invaders.

- I have the Sony HMZ-T1, and I use it sometimes to play some games in 3D. It is literally a 720p Oled screen for each eye, which is far better than regular old lcd. The whole setup is really well done, with the exception of the built in speakers, which are,…not so great.

-This thing is Great for Playing Skyrim and other 1st person games. Racing Games are also kind of awesome too, especially those that have vehicle interiors when in 1st person view, like Gran Turismo 5.

- I played Assassin’s Creed on it, and, like everyone else has said, 3D headsets like these are not the greatest for 3rd person games. They are totally playable though. I also Tried Guildwars 2 and Eve Online, and didn’t like it that much. Guild Wars 2 was playable, but would have been infinitely better with a 1st person view. Eve Online was almost impossible though.

- The biggest downside to most current 3D headsets is the limited field of View. Yes, Sony’s does give the illusion of watching a 150" Movie screen, though its also from 12 feet away, so there is alot of black darkness surrounding the screen.

- If You want a great gaming experience for Guild Wars 2, you just buy a larger computer screen and get better speakers, because without a good 1st person view, a 3D headset would be garbage for a game like this.

I want to move away from the intelligence argument for a moment, because it shows in the game that Kralkatorrik has to be Intelligent to know that his Champion Glint Betrayed him, and then went to go kill her. So here’s my theories on dragons being good or evil…

Maybe the Dragons are like Honey Badgers (Or their more Badkitten flying cousins, the Honey Buzzards). They just don’t give a kitten either way. They just want to consume all the Magic on Tyria, and will destroy anything that gets in their way. They don’t care that other life exists, but they will destroy them in order to get to that sweet succulent magical energy that they crave so much!

Or, maybe Tyria is a Ticking Timebomb, gathering Ambient Magical Energy from all across the Mists, it all goes there, and if the Dragon’s did not consume the magic, then Tyria would go Hypernova, its destructive waves of Magical energy would fly through the Mists, destroying the entire Universe along with it!…Okay, that is the least likely theory, but it shows a case for why the Dragons could be “Good”, and are doing the entire universe a service,…by ending all life on Tyria.

Here’s how I look at it….

If its all Temporary, then I won’t care much for the October 1st update, because all it does is add a new path to an already existing dungeon that will last for a grand total of about 28 days. Why spend the months of hard work on something that is only temporary? I will play it for about a day, depending on how hard the content is, then probaly forget it ever existed in two weeks, like much of the other Living Story/World.

Whether you play it or not is your own thing, but the fact that I absolutely have to log on every time an update is sneezed out to understand the story (also load up the guildwars2 webpage to read out of game short stories), just spells out ‘FORCED’ with great big letters to me.

If Anet is going to atleast put some sort of Living Story overview in the game somewhere, then the content wont feel so forced anymore, and I wouldn’t mind it at all because I wont have to log in every other week just to keep up with the story and other players. Since that wont be happening any time soon, I don’t care for the these updates all that much (also, Achievement Points don’t matter much to me, since the time it take to get those rewards you would have gotten ten times that amount just playing the game (except for a pitiful boost to experience, karma, magic find, and gold, and also some weapon and armor skins. Im not going to miss those!)

If its Permanent, which some people seem to point to, then Great! I’ll get to it when I get to it. It might be in October, It might be July next year, whenever. I will go enjoy the story when I want to go enjoy the story, not when someone else tells me I have to. I Enjoyed the Gw2 Personal Story, and I remember characters like Tybalt Leftpaw really well, because no one was trying to force the character down our throats. Scarlet? I still don’t know what she’s all about. Canach? wth ever happened to him? What about…whoever, it was that, we captured in the Aetherblade retreat? Ellen? So, since she’s been elected to that position, she’s gone from the Living World for now? if so, GREAT! I was getting tired of getting her story shoved in our faces, and constantly stealing the spotlight from the players anyways!

If Guild Wars 2 is a Great game (which I and other people generally think it is), then let the game speak for itself and stand on its own, leave worrys about player numbers, $$$ from the gem store, and the temporary illusion of full servers every other tuesday out of the equation.

everyone

/RAGE
My Conditions aren’t doing as much damage as the guy in melee getting stomped by the enemies. I’m angry. Why am I not doing Damage for being lazy. Why am I not doing damage for applying a Burning skill then running away? HULK SMASH!!!!!!

That is what you guys sound like right now. You should consider the reason why Ranged does less damage than Melee, then after thinking about that, consider any possibility why Condition damage does less than Direct Damage. Condition damage skills are ‘fire and forget’ in this game right now, and if the limits on Condition damage are removed, then that term will just become even more relevant. Why do you think you should be rewarded the same damage for doing less work than the guys doing direct damage?

…and Im not talking specifically about world bosses where every condition spec is totally useless. I’m talking about all parts of the game for this.

Your Staff #5 doesn’t seem too much different from the Longbow, except it adds the immobilize. I like the control possibilities it has, and that it would force players to stop and kill the thorns before they proceed. (I could see the possibilities in WvW, but in PvP, it might be way too overpowered in the form it is right now.)

I like your skill 1, 2, and 4 though

My staff idea from a few months ago. I had the idea that all 5 weapon skills change depending on whether your pet is alive or not(post is way too long to put here):::

Yes. As i said “unless the zerker is doing something wrong”. Using a useless buff certainly qualifies.

Hey, if a Zerker wants to use buffs that give him some survivability, he’s not playing the build wrong…

Loki.1092

snip

Except the original Guildwars, conditions were the same way…and Guild wars 2 is not ‘other’ MMOs.

Also, Some Damage over Time skills do Stack as well, just not in the traditional way (barrage as an example. Multiple barrages in the same area will stack their damage individually according to player, so will ranger traps, etc) They just don’t apply a debuff, the damage is out in the field that is completely avoidable.

And some conditions do need a hard limit. Vulnerability for example. If 50 players apply 10 stacks of Vulnerability each (actually kind of easy….), that equals out to 500 stacks of vulnerability, which means that every attack (including conditions) will deal 500% more damage. That would make Boss fights completely trivial. While it would be awesome to see a 100K Critical Hit that doesn’t involve killing poor defenseless rabbits, that will also make any champion and world boss extremely easy to kill, Champions that a large enough group of players can burst down in less than 10 seconds without conditions. Add in Conditions, it becomes even more ridiculous. If you buff Champions and boss’s Hp to compensate, then the bosses just take much longer, turning the bosses into infinite hp walls that you have to attack (which many players have complained about already in the game)

As far as other conditions go, The way conditions work in the game right now is that you have no way of reducing the condition damage you take, only regular damage. It works the same way for bosses. If Anet makes Conditions less effective on bosses (like Jormag when he’s not stunned), then it could work. I’m not sure if it is in the game already or not, but if it is, just disregard this paragraph.

But we also need to go back to my first concern in this thread, when I said that the limits of Burning, poison, etc, need to stay seperate from PvE and PvP/WvW. The reason for that is that there isn’t enough counterplay to Conditions. You have what? 2 dodges to avoid damage to begin with, and a very limited number of condition removals? Thats not enough to be taking 800+ damage a second of burning from 5 different sources, equaling out to over 4000+ a second, which will kill most characters in about 3 seconds, with no real counterplay to it.

Im pretty sure that greatsword is the Ascended weapon that has already been released.

It has the exact same model, but the only difference is the cloud on it. The cloud could just be a poison cloud and we are seeing it at an odd angle or something to that effect.

If that is actually the new GS, then Anet did a really poor job and just added a black cloud on top of an existing skin.

Isn’t that exactly what they did to Cobalt,….and actually alot of other weapons in the game already? A New weapon skin is a new weapon skin I guess.

As others have noted this is a GW2 exclusive problem. Many (most) MMOs have Damage over time classes and never have we seen a situation quite like this. It needs to be addressed and not just for Tequatl. Tequatl is just yet another point where this is a major problem.

So, how should it be addressed? Moving away from the people who are unable to read for a second….

I don’t actually see a problem with Burning or Poison right now because both are set up to where the effect with the hghest damage is always applied first, plus, all the condition damage that you apply with those sources will eventually deal damage. Bleeding however, that is a problem.

I can’t see it doing 25 stacks per person because then 50+ players could end up doing 175000+ damage per second, and make every boss encounter way too easy if you just fire off conditions and forget about anything else. I can also see problems with more than 25 Stacks, especially in areas other than World Bosses…

One possible Solution instead of 25 Stacks per person, or going over 25 Stacks,…

Instead, lets treat Bleeding just like how Burning and Poison are treated. The Way Burning Effects Stack is that only the Strongest Stack of Burning does damage until it runs out, then the next Strongest Stack of Burning does damage (I already talked a little about that above).

Well, why not have the 25 Strongest Stacks of Bleeding deal damage, then when that runs out, the next strongest stack of Bleeding will deal, and so on. The Stacks aren’t actually going anywhere, they are just in a standby queue waiting for their turn to deal damage like how burning and poison are set up now.

That way, Bleeding from Non-condition builds isn’t clogging up the bleeding that Condition Builds want, which is a big problem right now. Bleeding also isn’t dealing tens of thousands of damage per second and making boss battles easy.

There are disadvantages to that though, because while all your condition damage is now being counted, it could be a few minutes before you ever see it, especially if you don’t invest that much into condition damage, you might never see your bleeds do any damage at all, but the people with the highest condition damage will see their’s go off, and that’s what’s most important, is that the strongest bleeds are the ones dealing damage, not the weak, junk bleeds. There might also be the same bandwidth issues as the other two solutions have as well, which is why Anet hasn’t gone that route, but, its something.

Now that that’s done, lets get these two out of the way….

snip

snip

1) I was never just talking about Tequatl, but all non crit bosses, so your argument about Zerkers being able to crit for 40% of Tequatl is a pointless argument.
2) I am not comparing the potential of Builds on any equal footing, since, guess what? Those Zerkers could go full on into Precision, and the Soldiers could go full on into Toughness or Vitality, No Sharpening Stone, No food, no Sigil, and no Runes means that the Cleric is now the build with more power if that is what they choose. So…my point still stands, a Cleric can do more damage than those two builds in some cases. I never said all the time, which you also fail to realize, and have continued to FAIL to realize.
3) Once again, I said this:::

I almost never see Players using all three (Sigil, Sharpening Stone, Food), normally about half of all players actually use all three. I suspect its because the “Press [Faceroll] Button” if the laziest strategy in this game

so guess what? If that Zerker isn’t using buffs, and I am, that makes me stronger in some cases. And Like I said, the Math I did doesn’t lie and proves the point. The Maximum Potential difference in power between the Two classes is that the Zerker can have roughly 1200 more power than the Cleric, but the Cleric can have roughly 650 more power than the Zerker, depending on how the individual builds are built up, whether there is any additional investment into power, or not. And once again, since you failed to read this point before I will say it as clear as possible once again. The Cleric, as well as any other gear set with power as a seconday stat, CAN do more damage than a Berzerker IN SOME CASES (such as against bosses that cannot be Crit), BUT, NOT ALWAYS. Can it be any clearer to you?
4) …Would you like to keep pressing the /rage button? I’m kind of bored right now, and I don’t mind doing this all week if you want.

Tequatl and conditions...

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Technically, all the Zerkers are useless too, since they do just as much damage to a mega boss as my Soldier build does because you can’t crit them, and depending on how my traits and sigils are set up, My Ranger’s Cleric build does alot more damage to world bosses than a Zerker does because of my pet.

First, if your ranger cleric build does more damage to the boss than a zerker warrior, then that zerker warrior is doing something very, very wrong (like, being dead – but then if you can’t stay alive, then you shouldn’t be bringing a zerker to the event). Second, Zerkers indeed do not use their crit damage in boss fights, but their base damage is still high – as high, or higher, as any other build’s. They may be less useful, but still their dps is at least as high as anyone else’s. Condi builds, on the other hand, lose their main damage source, just because someone else stacked some conditions before them.

What would happen if the boss could receive only 25 melee attacks within one second, and all additional ones just bounced off? Because for condition builds the situation is very similar.

Which is the point I am making. But the Zerker isn’t doing anything wrong if he isn’t doing more damage than my Cleric build. He’s just not geared for power because he likes to see those big critical hits, or has a different Strategy.

Also…MATH!!!!!!! Its going to be Mathmatical!!!!
(using info from wiki, and assuming full exotic gear)

Cleric Total Power : 1614
Zerker Total Power : 1919
Soldier Total Power : 1919

Adding 300 Power from Traits:::
Cleric : 1914
Zerker : 2219
Soldier : 2219

Adding Bonus from Superior Sharpening Stone Tougness::: (if they use it)
Cleric : (916 + 698 = 1614 toughness), 1914 power + 6% of 1614 = 2010.84 power
Zerker : (916 = 916 toughness) 2219 + 6% of 916 = 2273.96 power
Soldier : (916 + 698 = 1614 toughness) 2219 + 6% of 1614 = 2315.84 power

Adding Bonus from Superior Sharpening Stone Vitality::: (if they use it)
Cleric : (916 = 916 Vitality) 2010.84 power + 4% of 916 = 2047.48
Zerker : (916 = 916 Vitality) 2273.96 power + 4% of 916 = 2310.6
Soldier : (916 + 698 = 1614 Vitality) 2315.84 power + 4% of 1614 = 2380.4

Adding 100 power from level 80 food::: (if they use it)
Cleric : 2147.48
Zerker : 2410.6
Soldier : 2480.4

Adding 250 power from Sigil::: (if they use it)
Cleric : 2397.48
Zerker : 2660.6
Soldier : 2730.4

Adding 165 power from Runes ::: (if they use it)
Cleric : 2562.48
Zerker : 2825.6
Soldier : 2895.4

So…What’s the point of all that??? Well If that All Powerful Zerker does not have Power Runes, or Sigil of Bloodlust, or Power Bonus from level 80 food, or the 91 power or so from Sharpening Stone, that is a 606 Power that the Zerker is missing out on, and I almost never see Players using all three (Sigil, Sharpening Stone, Food), normally about half of all players actually use all three. I suspect its because the “Press [Faceroll] Button” if the laziest strategy in this game, and I am not sure about Runes, so lets say 441 power (606 -165)

Well, the maximum possible stat difference between the Cleric and Zerker gear set, assuming Exotic only, is 305. So Guess what? I can end up with alot more power than Zerkers, and when we are fighting Mega bosses that can’t get Crit., I, a Cleric, do More damage than Zerkers. And assuming full buffs and everything, and fighting a boss that can’t be crit, a Soldier will always outdamage a Zerker. Plus, both Soldier, and Cleric have way more survivability than the Zerker, so we can stay up longer, and deal damage longer once you go down after the boss breaths on you.

On the Argument of Zerker Warrior vs. Cleric Ranger, I can’t say too much without factoring in the damage, power, etc. that my pet does (lets assume Jaguar), and that would take up a whole post just doing the math for that, so lets just assume that the classes are the same….A Warrior in Soldier’s gear can and will outdamage all Zerkers when it comes to non-critical damage which is all that matters when fighting world bosses. A Ranger in Soldier’s Gear will outdamage a Ranger in Zerker gear when in fights where crit damage doesn’t matter.

Math don’t lie, and I am sure that the numbers are slightly different in the game, but they aren’t that far off.

My whole argument before was in response to an uninformed post made earlier arguing over how much more useful Zerker’s are than Conditions, and I made the statement that Zerkers are actually worse than Soldier builds, and my Cleric can outdamage them in many cases, which the math just proved.

so…anyone else? Or can we get this topic back to the discussion about Condition Damage?

Why do people keep talking about zerker dps on the boss? You can’t crit tequatl… precision and crit dmg useless so PTV or cleric’s for power builds. Condi builds also shouldn’t be defending the cannons because unless you’re organized and spiking condis on 1 mob then epidemicing it (lol coordination in pug pve zerg?), you aren’t going to take them out fast enough compared to power based dmg spiking.

People keep saying this… It’s like they have never actually fought teq… or I guess they are so zerg minded they just spam 1 and never actually look at their damage.

While it is true that you cannot crit teq during the first part of the fight, once the laser goes off it enables crits to take place. That’s the whole point of the giant laser. That’s why his health goes down very slowly at the beginning but then plummets to 0 when the laser goes off. The laser does no actual damage, it just enables crits.

And guess what? I’m still doing more damage across the whole fight than your puny little Zerker build. So, crit builds are Still USELESS in a world boss fight. Seriously, get off the crits. You guys are just as Useless as Condition builds are right now!

I would love for you to enlighten me on what build does more damage than zerker even without crits. Also i’m a condition build… and I assure you, I am much less useful than a zerker build.

In order for Zerker’s to be doing that much damage, they need all 3 armor stats. Condition builds only need Condition damage. And during most fights with World Bosses, Crit damage doesn’t count for much anyway.

And actually, now that I think about it, Zerker’s are more useless than almost any other gear combo, since they die whenever a boss so much as breaths on them.

So yeah,

  • Zerker dead. Can’t do damage. They are probably all the downed people you are stuck reviving during events like Jormag, which cuts into your ability to deal damage and and get parts of the event done too!
  • Me alive. Can keep doing Damage all day. Normally I will pop a spirit of Nature, and if it misses the downed guys, well, maybe they should learn what Toughness and Vitality is while I am reviving their sorry kitten.
  • Zerker dead. He can’t!
  • Me alive. I can!
  • Condition Builds are more useful then zerker’s too, because except for one or two gear combos, they have some sort of survivability, and won’t die when something breaths on them.
  • So, Zerkers dead. I’m alive. And Condition Build is still killing enemies while the Zerker’s Corpse is stinking up the place, well, until the 25 stacks gets put up, then your kind of standing there yawning, while sitting on the Zerker’s rotting corpse while me everyone else is doing damage.
  • In review,….Zerkers are just as Useless, as Condition builds, but with Zerker its a playstyle choice, because they want to see big numbers as fast as possible without understanding what happens when all you can do is make big numbers in the first place.

Awww, you should have kept developing the class until It was its own thing and not basically three other classes already in the game rolled into one.

Oh well….I guess the Chronomanceris still the only Class Idea on these forums that I support…

First of all, forget everything that could be, directly or indirectly, to anything that sounds “asian”. Anet stance right now on the subject is pretty firm; bet they won’t change for a single class.

Second, ANOTHER scholar class ? Yay…

First, you can see plenty of “Asian” themed stuff in the game. You just have to know where to look for it.

Second, why not? If you are going to argue about the lack of a third Heavy Armor class,….so?

In the Original Guildwars : Factions, Weapons Spells could be made to be used on allies as well. So why not make it to where Weapon Spells Affect you and all Allies around you. Do that and just increase the Recharge time…

Nightmare Weapon – Applies “Nightmare Weapon” to yourself and all surrounding allies. Next three Attacks steal health.

Ghostly Weapon – Applies ’Ghostly Weapon" to yourself and all surrounding allied. Next Attack is Unblockable.

etc.

Maybe a rank system, the basic tag you buy fr 100gold starts off white then ranks as you WvW with it active to blue > green > yellow > orange > pink > purple. Then you can see which commanders are more experienced. Ofc.. then this would lead to people ignoring the less experienced ones so they wouldn’t have chance to lvl.. hmm.

This. The system Op proposed would make the highest ranked commanders go higher in rank, and the lower ranked commanders stay low in rank. It would not do one single thing to help the problem, because there are commanders with alot of WvW experience that still suck as commanders, and there are some newer ones who just got their tag that are actually pretty good.

Everyone seems to forget why this game is GW2 and not just an other expansion on GW1. They started a whole new game because some of their plans just didn’t fit into the lore. So the next race(s) will have to fit in. Races that don’t want to work with the current playable races, like tengu, kodan or largos are not the obvious choice. Their position may change in the future and I do expect the tengu to become playable some day, but they won’t be the next race.

I think the next race will be a race that is at war with the dragons and working with the playable races, so the minor races seem most likely. They may seem/be dumb or strange, but for RPers that’s just an other interesting thing to work with and for non-RPers, what does it matter? You don’t RP anyway.

They seem unpopular on this site, but on my server everyone seems to love skritt and quaggan so I guess they could be concidered to be in the pool. I for one can’t wait to play as a skritt.

Wow, for a post that started out so well you tanked fast. The Tengu WERE not ready to work with us, but by the time they release them as a playable race they’ll be ready.

It isn’t a question of if, it’s a question of when. Like I said before, the zones already exist, they just need to link them for us. You can see them quite clearly on the map, both a city and a starter area. The Kodan and the Largos are also in a position to be willing to play with the other races, they just need the story to explain what tipped the scale.

The lesser races can’t make sense because of the personal story because they have to be convinced to help by the orders. What we need are races outside of the story ready to commit and the Tengu, Largos and Kodan are ready, they just need to be tipped. But only the Tengu are actually in a position to become a legitimate playable race right now.

I think the lesser races make sense because of the personal story. They already have the story that shows us what tipped the scales for them. I expect the next personal story to involve a quest to establish a better relationship between Tengu and the other races, which would seem weird when you are a Tengu already.

We should also keep in mind Coriolis Plaza, which has 6 new Asura gates. Assuming the Tengu don’t need one because Dominion of the Winds is directly adjacent to LA that leaves 7 new races in Tyria (the continent). My guess would be Skritt, Quaggan, Hylek, Grawl and Ogre because of the personel story and because they already live in LA, Tengu because anet has mentioned the were concidered as playable before and Kodan because they seem most likely to be the seventh.

Races that don’t have their capital in Tyria seem more likely to be added after their continent becomes available, like Largos, who live in the unending ocean between Tyria and Cantha.

Or…You are the Tengu trying to Convince your Isolationist leaders to open their doors.

(Post was long, here’s part 2 for more stuff) ::
I can see the Largos comming into the picture more and more as Anet eventually moves on with the story and we go kill the Deep Sea Dragon. Thats basically the home of the Largos, and some Largos will tell you about how dangerous it is in the deep oceans, and how they managed to survive there. I could totally see the Largos as a playable race when that happens, whether its with the next expansion, or 5 years from now.

  • As far as Visual Possibilites, the wing can and will clip with every piece of armor like the Tengu’s Tail would (like the Charr’s tail does), but if clipping is not a problem, there are alot of customization possibilities with just the wings alone, with a wide variety of colors, patterns, and shapes. Maybe you can choose the option to have no wings, and have a story explanation for it? And if they wear those masks to breath on land, then they could wear regular helmets underwater, as many have previously stated, which would also be awesome, if Anet gives us more visual possibilities with those Breathers (and there can be some seriously awesome possibilities too, just look as real life to see what could be possible!)

Ditto with the Kodan. While they are scattered, many are Corrupted and are almost gone because of the Elder Dragon Jormag, There is no other race that Anet has introduced us to that lives anywhere near that Elder Dragon. And what better way to Introduce a new Playable Race than as the Kodan themselves as they help the other Major races of Tyria fight their way to Jormag, and retake their homelands?

  • It would also be interesting to play a Bear Race because of the visual possibilities. They have thick fur, but maybe you can have a furless option, like the Murellows. They can also have big, heavy frames like Grizzley/Kodiak bears. Some can be smaller and more agile like Black Bears, or more sloth like like Sun Bears. Or you could go for the classic, Big Badkitten Polar Bear like they are in the game! And some Kodan seem to have tattoos as well. Panda bears even. I think that having an Ursine race that doesn’t look like a ridiculous cartoon character would be freaking awesome!

The closest one that could be a playable race other than those three that I mentioned, would be the Hylek, since they are able to build somewhat large structures, are somewhat united under the same beliefs, have enough intelligence and technology to not be entirely primitive, and have a lot of fighters, but they just aren’t quite there yet, unless Anet has something special planned for them in other parts of Tyria.

The second Closest is the Dredge, is we can find enough that are friendly to the ‘Major’ Races. It will probably happen (maybe) when Anet introduces an expansion where we go fight Primordus, but its more likely that the dredge will just attack any stone dwarf they see on sight rather than helping them…

  • Visually, the Dredge would be as varied as you can see Moles in the real world. Even work some Meerkat and Prarie Dog in there for more visual variety.
That’s about every thought I have on the possibilities of new races (except undead which I covered extensively in a previous post, and to some, offensively)

This is a long post, so please forgive me, but I want to write a little more on why I think the Tengu, Kodan, or Largos are going to be the next playable race. Here are some points why….

  • The Tengu, Kodan, and Largos are all races individually united by their beliefs. The Grawl worship anything that moves.
  • The Tengu, Kodan, and Largos have shown intelligence that is on par with the ‘Major’ Races. The Skritt don’t even know what 1 + 1 is without getting a massive headache, unless there is more than one of them around, and the Jotun have lost all but shreds of what their great race once was.
  • The Tengu, Kodan, and Largos all seem to have combat Abilities that are atleast on par with the Major races. The Quaggans are cute puffy little balls that turn into uncontrollable killing machines when angered yes, but are totally useless any other time.
  • The Tengu and Kodan have Structures in the game that are Massive, so they obviously have the technological know how to be on equal terms with the 5 ‘major’ races. With the exception of the Skritt when theres hundreds of them around, none of the ‘minor’ races could build something half as big without having some serious advances in how they operate as races and cultures. Even the Krait and Centaurs don’t really seem capable of building on such a massive scale as the Tengu and Kodan have shown.
  • The Tengu, Kodan, and Largos are all friendly to the ‘Major’ Races. Yes, the Kodan don’t really have a choice anyways because of the threat of Jormag, and the Tengu are more on a ‘We won’t kitten with you if you don’t kitten with us’ policy, and the Largos don’t really care either way, but that’s still far better than any of the other ‘minor’ races. The Krait, most Dredge, and Centaurs all hate the major races with a serious passion, and I don’t see them as being playable anytime soon (a shame too, since I like the way Centaurs are presented in the game!).

The actual stories for those Three Races could all also be very interesting, and could also very easily be worked into the Lore as it stands in Guild Wars 2 right now, especially the Tengu.

The Tengu are Isolationists. It doesn’t matter who you are. Even if you are another Tengu, they will not let you into their city. I don’t Blame them. They have no reason to trust the Humans of Tyria, or any other race affiliated with them. They would rather the other Races and Elder Dragons destroy each other, and they want nothing to do with it. However, under the Threat of an Elder Dragon, they might finally have to accept their place in the world alongside the other Races, and join together with them. Its basically already in the game as well, if you talk to some Tengu, like this guy:: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Yuki_Honestcrest

  • Visually, the Females would be bigger than the Males instead of the other way around as is stated on the wiki, and being Birds from all over the world, there are many different possibilites for face and color customization as this illustration shows:: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Tengu_concept_art.jpg . There will be clipping with the Tail, just as the Charr is, but I don’t think there is a way to work around that unless Anet actually remodels much of the armor in the game so the clipping becomes less apparent. You could have Tengu look as different as a Cardinal and an Ostrich looks, and the Cardinal could be blue, and the Ostrich one pink, because, why not?

The funny thing is that I am on no such treadmill. I WvW and do the scarlet events when they happen, which for me is around once a day. The fact that you think im on some sort of serious grind is laughable at best. They really are too easy to obtain.

I am not worried about ascended armor right now, just the weapons as that is currently what is in the game. I didn’t stockpile champion bags or do anything crazy, I started playing in wvw and did scarlet events and I already have half my bank full with bloodstone. I play maybe 2-3 hours a day.

I already said that I was more worried about dragonite ore, as that seems to be the kittene to get currently, and proposed a different method to achieve them, but instead you call me a no life champion grinder, not understanding what my post was saying. Please get back on topic and try not to troll.

You play 2-3 hours daily.

Even if you opened every Champion bag, and you got the maximum amount of bloodstone dust (15), you would still have to kill a minimum of 150 Champions to get enough bags for the amount of dust that you stated (2250). Since the number is actually somewhere between 5 and 15, its more realistic to say that you have to have killed atleast 200 champions.

Its been 10 days since release, so you would have to kill 20 champions a day to reach the number you stated. If you play for 2-3 hours a day (lets say 2.5), you would have to kill an average of 8 champions an hour, or one champion every 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

I’m not being a Troll. I am being a Realist. And I think that everything you have said so far is either not true, or is leaving out some very important imformation, because killing a Champion every 7.5 minutes is just not possible during regular game play unless you are purposly going after Champions and pretty much only Champions. I am not calling you a troll, but I also don’t think you are being entirely truthful with us.

Its definitely possible to get 11~20~30 champion bags (average of 20) during Scarlet’s invasions, which means that you were doing atleast one a day, and not only that, you were following the Zerg around in hopes of killing Champions, otherwise, you might be lucky to see 10.

3 hours a day is some of the longer dungeons, and it is not possible to get 20 champion bags from one of those dungeons. It is possible in WvW if you captured a Tower or Keep every 7.5 minute, but that makes me wonder because you would also lose those same keeps every 7.5 minutes, which is kind of fast, even on the most lopsided matchups.

In 10 days, In addition to the 600 or so Bloodstone dust I got from champion bags I saved up, I got about another 400 or so, and I play for alot longer than 2-3 hours a day, but I also wasn’t looking for them either, but I certainly was not avoiding Champions just because I didn’t need the dust (I would have to open a minimum of 27 bags). As far as Dragonite Ore and Empyreal shards, I can get about 100 a day, and that’s normally in the first 2-3 hours or so of my game time per day, since all the chests are kind of once per day.

Most people have a massive stock of Bloodstone Dust because they knew that it was in Champion bags, so they saved them for when the update hit. Now, instead of slowly gathering the 500 Bloodstone dust you need for an ascended weapon, you instead have thousands more than you will ever need all at once. Other people got them because killing champions is all they know how to do in the game anymore. They don’t care for Jumping Puzzles or World Bosses, Dungeons or WvW.

oh, and 2250 piles of bloodstone dust will turn into 22 Bloodstone bricks, enough for only 4 ascended weapons (and I am guessing 4 ascended armor pieces), and that is 8.8% of the storage capacity of Bloodstone Bricks in your bank.

Griffon, you should probably level yourself in crafting so you can start refining that bloodstone dust, because you are barely 2/3’s of the way there if you were planning to make a full set of ascended armor in a few months, and you are going to need alot more. You will also need 3000 Dragonite Ores, and 3000 Empyreal Fragments, as well as 180 Obsidian Shards….might want to get to work on doing something other than the endless Champion Treadmill,…..its not healthy dude!

…snip…

My math is indeed slightly off.

An ascended amulet has 295 attribute points and + 5 from infusion slot, to a total of 300, whereas an exotic amulet has 283 attribute points (I had erroneously set this to 273).

This corresponds to ascended gear being +6% better than exotic gear. (283*1.06 = 300). This may increase with higher tier infusion slots.

I still find it to large, and ascended armor is coming, so every piece will have an ascended equivalent.

You must remember that if you increase all stats by say 1%, then the power increase is higher than 1%.

A simple example is two warriors, they only have normal attacks, and the weak one has 1000 health, and deals 10 damage every attack. The other has +10% stats, and therefore has 1100 health and deals 1100 damage. After 91 attacks the weaker warrior is dead, whereas the stronger warrior has 190 health, remaining.

190 health of 1100, is 17.27% remaining health, and a better way to determine power. So, you see a 10% stats increase would in this case lead to a 17.27% “power” increase.

All true, but isn’t that why PvP is made to where all players have the same stats anyways (or same potential atleast?)

I can see this being a problem in WvW, but in a Zerg, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is which Zerg is more organized and stronger. And as far as just roaming and doing 1v1 battles, you should remember that there are players who still run around with Rare or worse gear, and there are some that can still regularly beat the ever living kitten out of exotic equipped players. (I ran around WvW with a Rare Soldier setup for a long time, and I doubt that every single player I killed was wearing Rare or worse gear! Atleast 25% of them had to be wearing exotics, just because of what the armor looked like).

At that point, a 6% (currently more like 3% because of lack of top tier armor) increase in a Stat bonus (which actually makes the total stat increase more like 1.5% after adding in base stats, traits, food, and sigils) becomes meaningless, because if you are good with dodges, timing your skills right, etc, it doesn’t matter if that person is 1-3-6-10-25% better equipped than you, you’ll still kill him (though the extra stats do help!)

In PvE, having better gear certainly helps, but that isn’t the deciding factor. I started to solo champs with Masterwork Cleric gear! Higher level gear has since made it much easier, but everything in the game is still doable.

I still don’t see ascended gear having as much of an impact as people say it is, since in 6 months, every player that wants it will have it, and they will still get their butts kicked in WvW by players wearing lower quality gear.

Tequatl and conditions...

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Conditions will be viable for the chunks where players have to defend against waves of mobs, especially as they’ll have to spread out.

There will always be mobs attacking the cannons, so condition users should focus on those to get the most out of their stats.

This is the answer to the problem, and the entire reason the OP will NEVER do it. He wants to go toe to toe with the boss like a zerker build DPSer, but he wants to do it as a CD build support. Basically, he’s trying to take a tossing flashbangs and wondering why the heavy machine gun is killing more people. He’s playing his character wrong.

There. I said it. We’re all thinking it. I’m going to call it out.

YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!

CD is support, not DPS. Go help defend the cannons and batteries against the adds. You’re useless on the boss because all the zerkers with incidental conditions in their attacks are already using up all 25 stacks of whatever you inflict on the boss. Go do something useful to the raid. Or go play a zerker alt.

Pick one and quit whining about not being able to DPS as a support. Seriously, if you can’t add anything to the fight against the boss, go find a target you can add to. You’re still going to get rewarded for the encounter. Be useful to the event, or go away.

Technically, all the Zerkers are useless too, since they do just as much damage to a mega boss as my Soldier build does because you can’t crit them, and depending on how my traits and sigils are set up, My Ranger’s Cleric build does alot more damage to world bosses than a Zerker does because of my pet.

So you know what? You get your weak self back there and take care of those adds because I do more damage to the boss than you do! You ain’t no DPS class in this case, I am, plus I don’t die in one hit from the boss’s attacks, unlike you, so GET OUTTA HERE!

Sarcasm aside, the Condition builds do have a point. They can easily outdamage Zerker builds if built properly, and they should be able to do that damage to almost anything in the game, not just a bunch of weak enemies that no one cares about.

here’s the thing Israfyl,

Playing as an undead would be cool. Playing as a giant bird that looks like a Charr with feathers and a beak would be cool too. Playing as a sentient Polar/Kodiak/etc. bear would be cool as well. Playing as a faceless being of the deep oceans that wears a mask and has butterfly wings would be cool as well. But…can you make any point to justify their existence in the game?

You can justify Tengu, Kodan, and Largos because they are almost large enough to be on equal footing with the 5 major races. They don’t have the same Influence across Tyria that a Human or Norn, Charr, Asura, or Sylvari would have, but they are also not weak minor races that get instantly stomped all over the place by everyone else (Dragons and Major Races). They all have their own cultures, customs, and beliefs that while not entirely in the game, it would make sense if they were. even Skritt, Centaurs, Hylek, Ogres, Grawl, Jotun, Dredge, Krait, Yetis, and Quaggans could eventually be put in there in some way, if they weren’t so primitive/unintelligent/weak/evil/etc. by comparison to the major races, which could easily be expanded on in future guild wars games.

But Undead, which is just a mixed up mismash of the other races, and have no actual culture or religion (except worshipping their evil Necromantic masters, Palawa Joko or Zhaitan, Can’t leave that out), and there is absolutely nothing that makes them stand out from an actual race (other than their undying loyalty to their evil masters). An undead in Guild Wars 2 is no different than the Minions that the Necromancer Profession controls. They are easy to raise, easy to control, and above all else, expendable.

Now, if anyone on this thread wants to justify the existence of an Undead race that would be unique enough to warrant its existence and stand on equal footing with the 5 races already playable, then go for it. But, until someone does, I’m here to disagree with undead as a playable race

Math!!!! yours is slightly of (though some of mine might be off a little too)

On this webpage : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exotic#Quality

It shows Rares as being 145% better than basic
It shows Exotic as being 165% better than basic
It shows Ascended as being 175% better than basic

Assuming that Ascended is the new 100%…
145/165 × 100 = 87.87878787…% rounded to 88%
145/175 × 100 = 82.85714285…% rounded to 83%
165/175 × 100 = 94.28571428…% rounded to 94%
and for kicks…. 100/175 × 100 = 57.14285714….% rounded to 57%

(numbers are rounded to 3 significant digits for easy reading…)
Rare equipment is only 88% as powerful as Exotic.

  • Difference between 88 and 100 is 12.
  • 12/88 = 13.6. Therefore, Exotic is 13.6% Stronger than Rare.
Rare equipment is only 83% as powerful as Ascended.
  • Difference between 83 and 100 is 17.
  • 17/83 = 20.5. Therefore, Ascended is 20.5% Stronger than Rare.
Exotic equipment is 94% as powerful as Ascended.
  • Difference between 94 and 100 is 6.
  • 6/94 = 6.4. Therefore, Ascended is 6.4% Stronger than Exotic.
and for kicks….Basic is 57% as powerful as Ascended.
  • Difference between 57 and 100 is 43.
  • 43/57 = 75.4. Therefore, Ascended is 75.4% Stronger than Basic. (this is why newer players get their butts kicked so often in WvW, Dungeons, PvP, etc….)

The Difference is 6.4% between Exotic and Ascended gear, which does not make a single bit of difference in the world when so many aspects of the game rely on your skill as a player, not your equipment. Since players only have Trinkets and weapons, the difference is actually barely over half of that number, or 3.2%!!!!! The difference is actually much smaller when you factor in the fact that you already have 900 something power, toughness, vitality, and precision to start with (as well as Trait bonus and Sigil bonus). At that point, the difference is less than 1%.

If Ascended gear is the final step in the Gear Treadmill, than I have no problems with it because the difference in power is basically nothing. I am actually pretty proud of myself that I was able to make Theodosus’s Greatbow. It took 7 days of doing all sorts of Dungeons, Jumping Puzzles, WvW, and every World Boss several times over, as well as the hours it took to gather all the crafting materials (If you are lazy and didn’t gather materials, it would have costed around 70 gold to buy everyting except for the account bound stuff).

I don’t feel that stats should be able to be switched on ascended because they aren’t worth anywhere near as much as Legendaries, and I don’t feel that any new tiers of equipment needs to be introduced.

What I think was pretty darn stupid was the 200 Gold or so you need to level your crafting from 400 to 500, but that’s also if you don’t save any crafting materials or anything and you just buy everything off the trading post. I learned from this mistake, and it wont be happening when crafted Ascended Armor and Trinkets gets introduced. The thing is, the progression from crafting 400 to 500 is the same as crafting from 300 to 400, there’s just no inbetween weapons, just the exotics, and the crafting refinement. it just got blown out of control because of how the economy in the game works.

Hint::: Gossamer is used in all crafting professions and in making Insignias. It will cost more than Ancient wood and Orichalcum does. I suggest that you stock up now (even though it is expensive even now. Players are right in speculating that the price is going to go up, because IT IS AND WILL!), stock up either for profit, or so you aren’t caught with your pants down when you decided to level from 400 to 500.

I will say this once….

THIS IS NOT WORLD OF WARCRAFT. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY UNDEAD OR AN EVIL RACE, GO PLAY WORLD OF FREAKING WARCRAFT OR WILDSTAR WHEN IT RELEASES!

Indeed, this is not World of Warcraft, so why assume all undead are evil?

I am sorry for the fact that books filled with glitzy teen vampires and werewolves has made alot of people confuse what is good and evil. Instead its all about the ‘shades of gray’ inbetween.

that being said, the Undead in Guildwars, are all evil. Palawa Joko’s Undead Armies,…EVIL, but only slightly less evil than a Fallen God, or an Elder Dragon hellbent on consuming all magic in the world, just slightly less evil enough to free him and work with him, then 60 years later, probably regret that decision because all of Elona is conquered under his control.

Also, thats two undead factions in the game. Zhaitan’s, and Joko’s (not in the game exactly, but the lore is there). What? You want Anet to make everything stale and magically pop a third one out of the middle of nowhere?

There are some good ghosts in the game, but in what way is that going to be a faction big enough to make a whole new race out of? Not only that, but the Undead and Ghosts are just zombified (or transparent) versions of the races that already exist. THAT’S BORING!

We should have TENGU or KODAN first.

UNDEAD?…..NO! NO! A THOUSAND TIMES NO!

Its simple….stop whining and buy all the materials you need now before they go up in price any further! These materials are going to shoot way up in price in a month or two, especially the Gossamer, since all three armor types need it to craft. Buy a bunch now. Sell it when ascended armor gets introduced, then buy what you need to get from 400-500. There, you spent about 20-30 gold at the most, and you even got to be lazy because you didn’t have to go out and find the materials yourself.

The only thing I take issue with in your Build is your Pet choice. Drakes are fine pet choices, but its freaking hilarious watching them try to hit a moving target. Also, many Pet F2 attacks hit multiple enemies, and Canines have some of the most useful (like the wolf)

Anet could’ve removed the airships, and replace it with a bunch of Aetherblade’s or something. There could even have been a Lionguard ship parked just off the coast, where every 4 hours or so, the Lionguard plans a huge assault to take out the Captain at the very top of the Spire Then when its time for the Bazaar to come back around, Players have to do one last event where they wipe out the Aetherblades if they want the traders to come out of their ships and airships and open trade back up.

Ahh, its fun to dream about what could’ve been. Seriously though, I don’t think Anet had any other intended use for it other than for that Living World event, and thats fine by me, so long as all those resources didn’t get wasted and they bring it back every year.

Anet already has the systems in place to Craft Ascended Armor and Trinkets, and I bet that all the materials are already in place. The reason why they weren’t implemented all at once, I suspect, is because it would completely destroy the economy in one go, instead of just send it out of balance like the weapons did.

Wow, 197 gold to reach Huntsman 500.

Also, the Leather Thingy will become very useful in a month or two when Ascended Armor is introduced. If you use medium armor, and you craft the Leather now, you’ll already be halfways there! You just have to make the Damask (which requires Wool, Cotton, Linen, and Silk).
Or,
1) you can make the Elonian Leather Squares now,
2) save them up,
3) ?
4) Profit!!!

More Math calculations that I’ll put here since this thread does cover healing. Make sure you read my previous post as well….

first off, I forgot about the blast Finisher you can use with Healing Spring, which at 1900 healing power (what Im normally at), it can heal for an additional 1700 health, which makes it equal a total of 496 health per second. Then it also removes one condition every pulse(3 seconds).

If the bonus heal from Rune of Water or Rune of the Flock worked, at 1900 healing power, the bonus heal would be an extra 1640 healing (690 + 0.5 + healing power). If you add that in (again, if anet ever fixes it)…

Heal as One : 10,060, or 473 per second
Troll Unguent : 12,480 total, or 480 per second
Healing Spring : 16,765 total, or 550 per second (plus condition removal)

Or, you can add in the Bonus Health Regen that superior rune of Dwayna gives (which I think does work), which is an additional 6 seconds total (with effects from rune #2 and rune #6). Again at 1900 healing power, that is 367.5 hp per second, or 2205 total.

Heal as One : 10,625 total, or 500 per second
Troll Unguent : 13,045 total, or 502 per second
Healing Spring : 17,330 total, or 568 per second (plus conditon removal)

When the on heal bonuses start to stack up, Heal as One does start to seem like just as good a heal as Troll Unguent, and might even be better in a few cases that I didn’t show an example of, but if you don’t use those, then it doesn’t count for anything. Don’t use Heal as One unless you like the healing spike, because on a side by side comparison with the other Ranger healing skills,….well, it sucks.

These Numbers will be useless for a vast majority of you anyways unless you use Cleric, Magi, or Apothecary gear, and these numbers can be very easily cut down without healing power, but with that I don’t think anyone can dispute it. Healing Spring is far and away the most efficient heal the Ranger has.

Math!!!!!

Heal as One : 6,520 (1.0) 20s (no special effects.) (1.25s activation)

Withdraw : 4,344 (0.6) 15s (also 3/4s evade, and cures immobilized, cripple, and chill, control conditions)(instant)

Mirror : 3,915 (0.33) 15s (also 2 second reflect)(1.25s activation)

so,….at 1900 healing power, which I run on my ranger because I almost always use Cleric or Magi Gear….
Formula for healing is :: (healing amount) + (coefficient x Healing power)

Heal as One : 8420
Withdraw : 5484
Mirror : Forty Five Hundred Fifty Two (I couldn’t use number because of Anet’s censors, seriously, wtf?)

Every second…..(across recharge time + activation time)(numbers are rounded to remove decimals)
Heal as One : 396
Withdraw : 365
Mirror : 280

Those two healing skills do not really compare to Heal as One. Withdraw comes close because of the 3/4 second evade and condition removal, but you need to remember that the thief has a lower maximum health than the Ranger, so thats why the thief’s heal is that high….

…..But I do agree that Heal as One is a little lacking compared to other Ranger healing skills, if only slightly…..

(Other Ranger Skills with 1900 healing power and no additonal signets or buffs, across their recharge times and activation times)
Troll Unguent : 10,840 total. Across 6 seconds, its 417 per second.

Healing Spring : 6,820 (+ 18 seconds of health regen equalling an additional 6615 healing (13,425 total), plus condition removal). Across 30.5 seconds, it is 440 per second.

Signet of the Wild : 176 per second.

  • Take from that what you will…

(one final note is that Heal as one does not actually heal for 8420 health, its more like 8600 in the game itself, and Signet of the Wild actually heals for 183-4 per second at 1900 healing power. I suspect that the other two healing skills are also a little higher as well.)

Tribulation Mode Status

STATUS UPDATE 2

  • I finally made it through Stage 1!
  • Started with 812 Deaths.
  • Ended with 857 Deaths (I’m not sure the vein poking out of my temple can handle anymore deaths right now…)
  • 9 of the deaths were just getting to the second to last checkpoint which I was able to get to last time with over 90 deaths. 1 of them was by an exploding flower, 1 of them was by the unavoidable exploding barrel just after the checkpoint. The rest were by Spikes and lava.
  • It took 145 deaths total to get to the end of the first stage. To put that into perspective, I don’t think I ever died that much through every playthrough of Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Battle Toads, Mega Man, Double Dragon, or Ninja Turtles until I finally beat each game the first time. (possibly any three of those combined).
  • Fun Level : 4/10 (The Novelty is still sort of there,…..I think.)
  • My Scientific Analysis : so far, I say that if Hitler were still alive today, I predict that some people would rather just shoot him in the head instead of forcing him to play through the abomidable horror that is Tribulation Mode.
  • A competing hypothesis suggests that Judges would prefer to sentence the most heinous criminals in the world to 10 years of Tribulation Mode rather than the death penalty because that would be considered too soft.

Summary

  • If you didn’t cave in and purchase the Infinite Continue Coin like I did (because I knew it was going to be required), then you would need to spend 29 regular continue coins to get as far as I did….That’s alot….

Tribulation Mode Status

Chrispy.5641

So I decided to post a Status for how far I get into Tribulation Mode for every 100 deaths (Honestly, I think I should do it every thousand deaths, but whatever…). I’ll update this post every 100 deaths as well. I want everyone to do the same, and show everyone how far you have gotten. I am sure some have gotten much farther than others, and some people haven’t gotten past the first level (like me)

So…

STATUS UPDATE 1

  • Barely halfway through Level 1.
  • Started with 712 Deaths.
  • Gave up at 812 Deaths because I have stuff to do.
  • I wasted 54 Minutes to accrue 100 Deaths, and use 10 continues. Something tells me that I will die 2-3 times more and 100 times faster in this game than I would have through all of guild wars 2.
  • There were 3 Exploding Flowers, 1 Exploding Barrel, and 48 deaths by Lava/Falling, and 48 deaths by Invisible spike traps.
  • Playing Guild Wars 2, it takes me several hours of playtime before I do anything stupid enough to die.
  • Fun Level : 5/10 (The Novelty is starting to wear off, but not quite yet)
  • My Scientific Analysis of Tribulation Mode : If it were its own game, and if it were 1980, this would be a perfect game. Since this is 2013,….Something tells me that by the time I get to the end, I would prefer to play Superman 64 than this game….Lets find out, shall we?

summary so far
The Novelty of Dying every 30 seconds on Average wore off about 10 minutes in. Also, I am so glad I have that Infinite Continue coin. If I didn’t, I probably would have wasted hours to get the 10 continue coins I had to use. I really have to wonder why Anet wouldn’t just let players have infinite continues to begin with for Tribulation Mode.

I know I keep using Ninja Gaiden as an example in my posts, but there is a reason for that. And for this particular example, Ninja Gaiden gives you Infinite Continues. Infinite Continues means you don’t have to give up when you run out of lives. However, I don’t remember being charged an extra 7 or so dollars in order to have infinite continues.

Two-handed weapons need TWO Infusion slots

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Lol guys.. 2h weapons actually can have a bit highter base dmg, but its doesnt mean they do highter dps than 1h.

For warrior highter dps combo is axe+mace.

Many skills on 1h actually does highter damage than 2h.

No actually every single two handed weapon has higher total damage than any one handed…

Which explains why Sword on Ranger does more damage than the greatsword or Longbow, right?

LB is ranged, all ranged weapons deal significantly lower damage than melee weapons. And greatswords autoattack does strike harder than the 1h sword. check gw2 wiki for the damage coefficients and you can see:http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Greatsword
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sword

WRONG!!!!! (Partially) Lets compare auto attacks.

I am pretty sure the Damage Formula is ((Weapon damage) x (Power) x (coefficient) / (Armor rating)) (I hope I’m doing the math right…)

(assuming 2500 Power against 2000 Armor)
(and using the higher end of the weapon power)
1H Sword (1000 Weapon power)
Slash 1/2s : (0.6) ((750 damage))
((W. Power : 1000) x (Power : 2500) x (coefficient : 0.6) / (Armor : 2000) = (750))
Kick 1/4s : (0.6) + cripple ((750 damage))
Pounce 3/4s : (0.7) +might for pet ((875 damage))

2375 damage total, across 1.5 seconds, or 1583 damage per second.

2H Sword (1100 Weapon power)
Slash 1/2s : (0.55) ((756 damage))
((W. Power : 1100) x (Power : 2500) x (coefficient : 0.55) / (Armor : 2000) = (756))
Slice 1/2s : (0.55) ((756 damage))
Power Stab 3/4s : (0.65) + evade ((893 damage))

2405 damage total, over 1.75 seconds, or 1374 damage per second.

(all results are rounded down)

1H sword is 1/4 second faster which is what makes it do more damage per second than the greatsword, it also applies cripple, and gives pet 1 stack of might each cycle, which if you are using your pet for anything than to look pretty, that alone will make the 1H sword do more damage in the long run than the Greatsword. Greatsword only has evade on each cycle.

  • You can argue for Maul, which has an awesome coefficient of 1.5 and does (2062) damage and applies 3 stacks of vulnerability, but it has a casting time of 3/4s and a 6s recharge time, or (305) damage per second.
  • Hornet Sting and Monarch’s leap deal (875) and (1250) damage respectively. The first one also gives you evade, while the second applies cripple. It has a total casting time of 1.25 seconds, and a recharge of 8, so (229) damage per second.
  • Those skill #2 examples still don’t make up for the damage gap made with the Auto attack either, its still off by a few hundred damage. While Logic dictates that the Greatsword should be more powerful (as is the case with the Warrior and Guardian I believe), the damage formulas, and the time the skills take, just proves it wrong.
  • You can also argue the fact that the Greatsword can hit more enemies than the sword on more attacks because the skill Kick can only hit one enemy, in which case it will do more total damage to multiple enemies, but if you are attacking a single target, sword is always better, which disproves the statement that 2h weapons always deals more damage than 1h weapons.
  • None of that math was probably necessary since you can just add up the damage amounts on the wiki page, then divide it by the total skill activation times (426 for sword and 369 for Greatsword). plus I’m a little off anyways because I used the max. weapon power instead of the average, and there are other factors to consider (such as number of Targets which I already covered)
  • If we’re talking about absolute total damage, regardless of enemy number, if you have Piercing Arrows Traited, your Longbow and Shortbow will do more damage than any of your other weapons as long as you can aim the path of the arrow properly (shoot the enemy farthest away not the closest, etc.).

That was way off topic….

On Topic, I’m kind of relieved that two handed weapons get two infusion slots. That way Two handed weapons have the same agony resistance as two seperate weapons. I think that was the reason why, gotta go watch the livestream again. That or the stat bonus from having two infusion slots is so low that it wouldn’t have mattered either way.

Signet of the Wild + Signet of the beast master(trait) finisher bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Chrispy.5641

didn’t we get an official response as to why we cant do anything while the signet is active? if I recall it was said that the signet causes a “transformation” that prevents rangers from using any interact ability while it is active, this includes finishing foes and reviving allies which makes this skill very worthless in pvp if you cant revive allies or finish foes if you are traited for beastmaster’s signets, while it is active you are forced to watch you team mates die and you generally cant out dps someone who is rezing a downed foe.

Anet should get rid of the Size Change transform thingy and apply some other effect to the Ranger instead then, like the red stuff that comes off of you when you use Rampage as One, do the exact same effect, but make it green or another color instead. No transformation, just a particle effect, because it is kind of a horrible handicap that gets thrown on us.

What healing skill do you use?

in Ranger

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Just like most everyone else:

Troll Unguent for Solo/Mobility heal.

Healing Spring for Stationary/Group play.

I’d consider Heal as One if I ever used one of those rune sets with the “special buffs when you use your heal skill”, just for more up time.

If you ever consider doing that, don’t use Rune of the Flock, or Rune of the Water. Neither of their 6th Rune effects work, and Anet doesn’t seem to be fixing it any time soon either. I think they forgot about it, or haven’t found a fix yet.

…If they did work, then my current build would allow me to heal me and my pet for just under 10,000 health instead of 8400 health, plus it would send a heal of about 1600 to everyone around me, every 20 seconds, which would turn Heal as One from a great heal to an Amazing heal. Hell, it would make other heals even better than they already are!

Heal as one would see more use if it removed conditions on heal I bet.

That or reduce the casting time to be inline with the other healing skills. I’ve never had a problem with it myself, except for when you are poisoned, then it turns from a great heal to a very crappy heal….

What healing skill do you use?

Heal as one. Since Normally I use either Cleric or Magi gear, the amount it heals for and the quick recharge makes it more useful to me.

In Dungeons and WvW, I switch to Healing Spring like everyone else because of the many reasons people stated above.

You dont know that people will never kill Tequatl because nobody exept for 60 People fought the new Version with a hard handicap. ( They all had Cleric Gear and other handicaps ) In fact they fought the real hard mode of the new Tequatl and for us, it will be easier because we wont have handicaps.
Just admit it. All you want is free loot, nothing more.

Just gotta say Cleric’s gear is not a Handicap. When I run Cleric’s or Magi gear, I am unstoppable (as a Ranger), and my pet turns into a nearly unkillable machine of death. If you mean handicap by having lower level gear or lower quality gear, I agree with you on that part.

It remains to be seen if it is good or just another abandoned karka queen.

Hopefully Anet learned from the Karka Queen and they adjusted their future updates accordingly. If not, then I fear that every dragon boss will end up just like the Karka Queen.
