That I think would be better, or just a total redesign of the entire system.

Very few Traits actually depend on any specific stat anyways, and just as few traits depend on the actual theme of the traitline. In what way are our signets actually related to Marskmanship in any way, for example? How, are our traps related to Skirmishing at all, if precision and Critical damage don’t actually do anything for them, because none of them even do any damage of note? Skirmishing is just a name, and most of traits don’t actually contribute to the flavor value of that name, so if thats the reason, its a lame reason. If the reason is for balance, I don’t see how having both grandmaster traits in Skirmishing is overpowered.

The way the Trait system is currently designed is just like the Armor types in this game (light, medium, heavy). They seem more like a habitual vestige of past MMO’s and is what is keeping Guild Wars 2 from ever setting itself apart as a game that throws almost everything out the window as far as traditional MMO’s is concerned (secret world for example)

Maul is the hardest hitting skill in the game for Rangers..Its a waste to play totally defensively

Then don’t? Maul, Swoop, Counter Attack, and Crippling Throw all hit with some serious damage behind them, and any one of them hurt more than any other Ranger weapon, but, The Greatsword also has an evade in GS#1, a movement skill in GS#3, Blocks in Gs#4. It also has a knockback and a stun. You should learn to use the Defensive and Offensive parts of the weapon together, because there is almost nothing that can stop you if you do. Trying to make the weapon 100% damage is not going to make it a better weapon, neither is adding a gimmick like what you suggested.

I think they simply had no where else to put it and keep a relative balance in the number of traits available even.

Which makes me wonder why there has to be exactly 12 traits in each line? This game isn’t going to be looking very good in another year or two if everyone still has the same old skills and traits they did at launch, with one or two exceptions.

Yes. The Gemstore kins should be Unlocks, like Zenith skins.
Would not brake the income, since there is very very very small amount of people who buy the same skinpack. So then, why not making a kind step towards loyal and supportive users??

Having Gem Store Skins become an unlock like Zenith skins would make me buy them alot more often, that way I don’t have to worry about using them only once.

Of course, Anet likes the money they make off of those transmutation stones/crystals/etc. Not that there is anything wrong with wanting more money, but, I am guessing there is a realistic reason why all the Living story skins and gem store skins are one time use only.

I have to agree with some of the points made on this thread, especially when it concerns scaling events.

Anet, I know it gets kind of crazy when an event scales down so far that a single skilled player can tackle an entire temple event by themself (especially Grenth or Melandru), or even take down a Dragon Event with enough time and effort (not anymore obviously with the time limits). If you had atleast 5 players then you could always tackle any event out there in the world. Thats just crazy that a big bad god-like boss gets downed by a small group of players, but, the thing about these scaling events, is that….its part of the dynamic event system, thingy….stuff…, and your entire event system was literally one of the big selling points you made about the game time and again long before release.

Current PS4 and Xbox One games released take up pretty much all of the 50Gb dual layer Blu ray Disk. Even early PS3 games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII did the same thing, taking up every last bit of space available. Guildwars 2 has good graphics, but if GW2’s original release and the Living World updates came with ‘That’ kind of graphical and sound fidelity, then the original release would have been atleast as big, if not bigger, and every Living world update after would have been 2-3 gigabytes each.

Even then, we wouldn’t have to worry about the game ever being ‘too’ big.

(3) – New Stat Combinations!
This section is more for fun, so, you can stop reading here, or feel free to reply and add your own, I’ll add them to this list. The question here is “What new Stat Combination would you like to see in Guild Wars 2?” They can be any of the traditional Stats that are already on armors, or you can add in new ones

Druid’s
Primary : Precision
Secondary 1 : Toughness
Secondary 2 : Healing Power

Reason – I want this armor set because as a Ranger, I can use the high precision to almost permanently have 25 stacks of might on my pet, as well as keep effects from on-crit sigils going constantly whenever they recharge. The Toughness and Healing Power is for survival, healing my pet, and using the higher toughness to keep enemy attention on me instead of my pet so they can keep dealing damage for longer without dying. Also, I would take toughness over vitality any day, since on a point to point basis with professions with already higher health, its more effective. (also healing is easier with toughness over vitality)

Expert’s
Primary Profession Attribute
Secondary Power, Precision, Toughness, Vitality, Condition Damage, Healing Power

Reason – This Stat Combination is actually the same as Celestial, but Critical Damage is replaced with a Profession Attribute bonus, cut in half. That is roughly a 30 point bonus to your Profession attribute. Thiefs steal can recharge 30% faster, Engineers can use their toolbelts 30% more often, Ranger pets get an additional 300 point bonus to all their attributes, etc. Its probably way too impractical, but it would be kind of neat to see an armor set like this in the game.

Explorer
Primary Movement Speed
Secondary Power, Precision, Toughness, Vitality, Condition Damage, Healing Power

Reason Okay, I guess my originality is running out…. I think it would make sense though, to replace Critical Damage (or another stat) with Movement speed. Across all armor sets, it shouldn’t go higher than 25% so it is balanced, and doesn’t stack with other sources. I want to see this so it gives us another option to pick over Signets or Runes that increase movement speed.

Sorcerer’s
Primary Vitality
Secondary Power
Secondary Precision

Reason This stat combination is like Knight’s armor. Even though I prefer Toughness, sometimes it makes more sense to have high Vitality instead, such as when fighting enemy’s that deal alot of condition damage. Also, we only have two armor options with high vitality, both of which are hard to get (one being nearly impossible). We should have more!!!!

This is a topic describing my opinions on the current system for aquiring gear in Guilds Wars 2, what I don’t like about it, and my suggestions for how to improve it. The Three things I want to address are::

(1) : Incomplete Armor Sets
(2) : New Upgrade Suggestion
(3) : New Stat combinations

So first, I want to talk about Incomplete Armor Sets, because there is alot of them in the game. First we need to define what a complete armor set is. I would define a complete armor set, as one where you can fully optimize the three stats that particular armor set has. In order to do this, you need to have :::

  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Trinkets
  • Back Item
  • Jewels (Exotic Jewels for trinkets)

This is only in Exotic gear. I’ll address Ascended later. The only Gear Stat in the game that can meet the definition of a full armor set, is Berserker’s. Some of the other most commonly used gear stats in the game such as Cleric, Assassin, and Rampager, lack a Back item, while other Gear Stats like Magi, Dire, and Settler have Back items, but do not have an equivalent Exotic jewel.

Because of this, it becomes difficult to fully, 100% optimize my stats. If I equip all Cleric stats, then, I have to use the Magi Back item to maximize my healing power, even though there is 16 precision and 16 Vitality that mean nothing for my stats, and I don’t want to use it. If I equip all Magi gear, then there is no equivelant jewel, so, the only way to maximize my healing power is to equip Sapphire(Cleric) jewels, but then, thats 84 Precision and Vitality that I lose (14×6), and instead I gain 90 Power and 90 Toughness(15×6), neither of which I even need for my build, so I am forced to equip Crests of the Magi, which has less overall stats than Jewels do, meaning, my build is not optimized.

I didn’t mind having had to spend half a million Karma to buy the full Magi set in Orr. That’s why I wanted it. I didn’t have to craft it, and that gear combination was hard to get, and the things you can do with it (especially as a Ranger), is Amazing! but, there wasn’t a full set, because there was no upgrade components for Magi that matched the other gear stats.

It gets even worse when you see that some equipment stats (like Magi again), don’t even have any ascended Trinkets to use, so, currently, my build that uses all Magi gear, isn’t even close to being optimized. The way it stands right now, all the gear stats, except for one, cannot be 100% built to the max, because the items just do not exist in the game for them.

there are other minor things as well, such as the Knight stats not matching up with its Jewel counterpart.

(2) – New Upgrade Suggestion

Obviously, suggestion number one, is to make a back items for all gear stats. Its just makes sense to do it. That would fix Optimization for Valkyrie, Rampager, Assassin, Sentinel, Carrion, Cleric, Apothecary, and Celestial stat combinations. That’s 8 armor sets fixed right there.

Next, we need to do something for Soldier, Rabid, and Magi armor. These armors are almost complete, but they do not have Jewels in which to fully maximize their stats with. Instead we have Crest of the Soldier, Crest of the Rabid, etc. For these three, I suggest that we be able to craft a superior item above Crest that we can only put in our Trinkets and Back item, so 1, their balanced, and 2, that way these stats are equal with all the others in terms of how optimized you can get them. You could call them for example Soldier’s Escutcheon, Rabid Badge, or Order of the Magi.

Now we get to the more incomplete armor sets, such as the ones with no crest or Jewel (Dire, Settler), and ones with no back item or Jewel (Shaman), and those with no equivelant Crest or Jewel, or Back Item (Knight see above). We also have very incomplete armor sets like Cavalier. My First suggestion is to make a back item for those that need them, as well as fully completing the Cavalier set of stats to give them weapons and armor. Next, you should introduce Universal upgrades for those stat combinations (Seal of the Dire, Medallion of the Dire, Crest of the Dire, etc.), then make the superior version of that item to be put in jewels. (Dire Badge, etc.).

Basically, if this is too long; Didn’t read. The one idea you should get from this, is that….

“Anet, Please complete all the armor sets!”

I am pretty sure that Centaurs would not want to have anyone riding them, because no matter the circumstance, the Centaurs would probably feel they are being treated like some common working animal. Not only that, but humans would be riding them. I mean, how would you like it if a bunch of skritt suddenly jumped on your shoulders and started riding you…as hilarious as that would be….please no.

Also, Why the heck is that Centaur still being held at gunpoint in Lion’s Arch? Its been like a year and a half! If the world was truly living, then atleast the Lionguard would have realized by now that the Outcast Quindova comes in peace? Maybe change his dialogue a little to reflect that. I bet that on Dec. 10th, even while I am throwing snowballs at Tengu, Quaggans, Kodan, and all the other races ten feet away…, that poor centaur is still going to have a gun pointed at his face.

Do rangers need their pets?

in Ranger

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

If both of your pets die, its like a minute before you can bring it out again. You have to figure out how to survive until then, and many, many other players have done it, the ranger is not helpless without their pet.

If you are fully specced out in DPS gear and you don’t know how to use your skills properly, almost anything will destroy you, pet or not, it doesn’t matter. If you still suck at using ranger’s currently, You can actually prevent most of your deaths in PvE by using Devourer pets until your skills improve. Their total toughness is greater than your combined toughness and armor defense at this point, and therefore will draw the enemy’s attention.

If you invest any into defensive gear, then enemy’s will almost always attack you because your combined toughness and defense value is higher than any of your pets’s toughness. BUT, its kind of difficult to die in PvE if you know how to use the skills and pets given to you. You have to purposly screw up to die in that case.

Dissent!
Over the last few months, there has been alot of popular uprising, if not outright revolt from the humans around Ebonhawk because of the treaty with the Charr. It became even worse when they found out that a spy changed the wording in the treaty at the last minute, and is at the center of all their troubles, or so they think. It turns out that the terms of the treaty have been the same for years. Now the Humans are in outright revolt against both Charr and other humans, and they are on the hunt for the person they think is responsible! More and More humans, and even other races, are joining them every day! You have the choice to help them, or crush them!

Achievements
I Blame Blush Bramble! – (Meta 1, 50 million points), Complete Achievements that involve hunting down Blush Bramble and helping out the Seperatist dissenters, retaking Ebonhawk from those that would deny you what you deserve!
I Blame your high expectations! – (Meta 2, 25 points), Complete Achievements that involve crushing the Seperatist Dissenters and reuniting the Human city of Ebonhawk!
He’s DEAD!!!! – (1,000,000 points) Kill Blush Bramble. (Recieve “Blush Bramble’s Head” as a reward)
No, Seriously, He’s Dead! – (Over 9,000 points!) Use {Blush Bramble’s Head} in Ebonhawk and all other Major Cities.

What if I told you….. (resets achievement points) It was just a dream. Complete ‘The Status Quo’

Events
Hunting Blush Bramble (Instanced)(Available only after completing the “I Blame Blush Bramble!” Meta Achievement.) You recieve a letter from Ellen Kiel showing you where Blush Bramble can be found. When he’s dead, hopefully the Seperatist rebellion can be calmed, and a full scale war between Humans and Charr can be averted.
Destroy the Seperatist Bases (event/Instance) There are 5 Seperatist strongholds inside the city of Ebonhawk. When you find them, you can enter it on the side of reason, and wipe them out!

Defend the Citadel! (Event/Instance) The War has spread to the Black Citadel. Join the Charr in defending their city.
Retaking the City of Rin (Event/Instance) The War has spread to the Black Citadel…GOOD! Kick those smelly charr out for daring to hide the truth about Blush Bramble, and re-establish the Capital city of Ascalon
The Status Quo (Unlocked after completing either meta achievement, mandatory!) You wake up, and realize that you had just volunteered in an Asura Experiment to see what lengths someone would go to to erase from the world, those they deem responsible for their troubles.

Character’s
Blush Bramble an innocent Sylvari (Figuratively) that got caught up in the uproar. He is currently trying to do anything to make the Seperatists not hate him, but they wont accept anything less than his head on a (Very Literal) silver platter…maybe with a side of Ranch or French dressing…..hmmm, I wonder if there’s a version of France somewhere in the mists…

Aftermath
-You (The player), either see the error of your ways concerning Scarlet or,
- You (The player) never cared either way, or,
-You (The player), Just hate Anet that much more,
- Scarlet is still on the loose because her story still has a few months to go. Hang in there, Citizens of Tyria!

…okay I’ll leave now…

You get what u vote for… IRL also. Enjoy your 5 min “yet-another-asura-experiemnt” content. Can’t wait to see a “Scarlet or Dragons” vote, scarlet offering less teleport fees and dragons offering dragons. Guess what u broke ppl who can’t afford 1 silver will vote.

Which is kind of lame that players will always go for the cheaper waypoint fees. Some players have made the absurd claim to have saved 40-50+ gold because of that, but even with the most expensive waypoint (close to 4 silver), they still would of had to teleport over 6,000 times to save that amount of gold (spending close to 200 gold in the process on the teleport fees, after the reduced cost), and there is no reasonable explanation for why any player would have to do that across a month of gameplay, and at that point (well, at that point 10,000 silver ago), you deserve to lose that much of your hard earned gold.

aside from that, I actually enjoyed the Fractal, even if there were no titanic battles between gods anywhere to be seen! The part of the story that concerned Dessa was pretty good. Still, it would have been awesome to see some (nearly) all powerful gods come together and lay the smackdown on one of their own.

This fight can be solo’d, and Its almost stupid easy if your a ranger with skill. Also, the Cannon phase is the easiest part of the battle. Move as a group, use swiftness, and stay out of the red circles, or, scatter apart, so the cannon shots are spread apart, and stay out of the circles. Either way, so not depend on your dodges unless you absolutely freaking need to use them! its too easy!

Also, I am loving these titles we give to GW2 characters, since so far, we got Mai Trin & Captain Horrik Destroyer of Pugs, and we also got Scarlet Slayer of Lores!

WP has it (almost) right concerning Scarlet

Chrispy.5641

Before even listening to his video, I was glad that Anet is working on Scarlet instead of another Elder Dragon, or doing Elona/Cantha content, because, I was pretty much convinced that Anet would have screwed up the living story no matter who was at the center of it. But the fact that suddenly they are going back to the elder dragons (according to some people), and, of course Scarlet is involved somehow…..yeah, that just raises a big, giant red flag warning for me. I really would rather not see the Living Story go up in flames because they were careless and inserted Scarlet into everything for the sake of inserting her into everything. She finally became more interesting in the last few living world releases, and that’s on the edge of a cliff. The way Anet handles her and the rest of the story over the next six months is probably going to either make people finally like it, or just give up on it.

WP articulates it much better than I ever could though, However! …His incessant whining about a certain boss battle and assuming that everyone’s opinion on it is the same as his, is starting to get a little annoying.

It's Expansion Time

in Living World

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

I do think that there is room for improvement in the Living Story. I’ve actually been kind of a harsh critic of the current Scarlet LS in other threads (and a slightly less harsh critic in others). But the concept of the Living World is absolutely unique amongst all MMOs on the market today, and it is one of the most exciting — and daring — things a gaming company has attempted in years. So I want it to have a chance to achieve it’s full potential.

In my opinion, its just free updates under a different name to me, and there is absolutely nothing exciting or daring about it. Turbine did it for a long time with Lord of the Rings Online, releasing an entire expansion’s worth of content before they released an actual paid expansion, then released more free content after that (then they changed their business model, and that whole thing with Warner Bros….yeah, lots of stuff changed). Funcom did it for several months with the Secret World, until they changed their business model, because player numbers dropped off. Even Square Enix does it with their online games, but they don’t need any embellishments to the name like Living Story, Books, or Issues. They are just called “Patch 2.1” or whatever….So original!

The only difference between Anet and those three companies, is that instead of slowing down the pace of free updates, Anet has actually stayed perfectly consistent, no matter what the actual player numbers have been. Some of these releases have suffered big time for it (such as the Queen’s Jubilee update which I explained in an earlier post), some, were freaking near perfect, like Cutthroat Politics. Some were terrible, like the Southsun updates. The last three updates have been pretty well done, but because of Anet’s record of content releases, I am not currently expecting them to stay like that forever. While Anet has been consistent with the pace of the releases, the quality, has not been anywhere near the definition of that word.

And no, putting all resources into an expansion is not going to help the quality that much. That’s something Arenanet needs to figure out how to handle, no matter what the release is.

So, my math is right. You might want to go to your local community college and brush up on some simple algebra.

Your math is still wrong…. the math you showed just now is fine, but when the basis for your calculations is incorrect then as a whole the result is not credible and as such incorrect. You only counted maps and dungeons visited not content seen or experienced. Not to mention you discounted countless areas and instances that were part of Living Story, things like Guild Mission areas and instances not part of the open world or a dungeon as such.

Seeing as you yourself said that at the most, there is two hours of story content that other players have missed up to this point, its not alot, and it wouldn’t even put a dent in those percentages I gave. The reason why I left out personal story, is because unless you made all possible character combinations, and played them through to the end of the game, the percentage of content that you haven’t done (that I know of) would be much higher. (and since you haven’t even finished the game by your own admission, I highly doubt that you have that many characters)

So no, a Ratio of roughly 1 in 10 things that you not only not do, but refuse to do, still stands, and I will continue to not take your opinion seriously, until you atleast try those areas for yourself rather than experience them second hand.

Pale Tree and Yahk mention Scarlet now.

Huh, looks like Anet finally acknowledged the flood of complaints about storytelling LS characters introductions, and tried to fix it up.
Thumbs up for doing it ingame, rather that in a random blog post. And thank you for listening to your playerbase.

I agree, I think this is more due to the complaints but I’m glad they did it, although I wish they did it earlier so Scarlet would actually fell like she had history instead of ‘poof!’ suddenly her she is.

I hope they do this in the future, its helps give the characters more depth.

Does anyone know how long that stuff was actually in the game? Or are we for sure it was this Living world patch? If so, ABOUT TIME ANET! If not,…heh heh heh……, Anet pulled a fast one on you, and no one noticed!

Thats 11.1% of all dungeon content (1 out of 8 dungeons + 1 fractal), and 11.5% of all the PvE content in the entire game total (3 out of 26 zones). Why should I, or anyone else take anything you post seriously about Expansions and living story, if you refused to even try that content yet?

Nice math there, but entirely irrelevant, also incorrect. They may have been the numbers originally but with the living story patches they are no longer correct the fact that some content is no longer accessible is not the same as if it never existed. Also it is funny that you separate dungeon content and PvE content as far as I am aware dungeon content is a subset of PvE.

1 divided by 9 = .1111

If you multiply that by 100, you get the percentage that 1 is out of 9. So, 0.1111 × 100 = 11.11%, and that was including Fractals into the equation.

3 Divided by 26 = 0.1153 × 100 = 11.53%. And if you want me to include Dungeons as whole zones, and add them in with the other zones (permanent ones, and not including major cities where you do nothing), we get

4 Divided by 35 = .1142 × 100 = 11.42%. I even went to 2 decimal places on these for moar accuracy!

So, my math is right. You might want to go to your local community college and brush up on some simple algebra, or pay attention in math class if you are in high school. You still refuse to play 1 in 10 parts of the game. The ratio of the game you refuse to play (that I know of) is 1: 10. Do you want me to write fractions next? I can draw a cup with water in it to show you as well if you want!

Just because I did not play everything does not mean my opinion is any less justified or valid when it comes to living story or expansions. There are people who don’t play fractals or who did not play Super Adventure Box (as there probably are people who have skipped one or more of the living story patches) and yet you probably wouldn’t devalue their opinions about the state of the game.

No, actually I would. Whenever someone tells me their opinion about a movie or game, If their opinion is just too Glowing or too Critical, I ask them if they even watched that movie all the way through, or if they atleast finished the game. Normally I hear them say they didn’t even watch it or play the game, just watched a review of it on youtube or watched someone else play the game (like you said with the Zhaitan fight, you only watched it, but didn’t experience it yourself. I will agree that it is kind of lame, but the dungeon up to that point isn’t, and neither is the rest of that part of the game)…..

I can understand not making it through Super adventure box, or making it past fractal level 2, because you didn’t like it when you tried it. Guess what? neither did I. But outright refusing to do any content in a certain area at all is what makes me not take your opinion seriously. Its like people who say “Call of Duty is AWESOME!!!!” But only ever play multiplayer, and don’t even know if the single player campaign is good or not! You hated something without bothering to try it for yourself. Thats reason enough for me, no matter the ratio.

To Merge the Personal and Living Stories

in Living World

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

If Anet, for example, added unlockable event Hearts in Orr (and Southsun Cove) after Completing the Personal Story, that would be alright by me. They would be totally invisible until then. And then, you would complete those hearts by killing Undead “To make way for a settlement” or something. Or you could talk to an event NPC that only unlocks after you beat the game that triggers a set of events that relate to things that happened after the fall of Zhaitan. (These events already exist in parts of the game, like the Krait witch in Caledon forest, you have to specifically speak to someone to start the event chain. New event chains can be made to unlock after killing the dragon).

After completing the event chain, it would fill up the event heart, and after doing several of these chains, the heart is filled up and its done. Or, you could just kill X enemy to make it done too, like every other heart in the game. You would recieve some ingame mail thanking you, you would get some money, or a special “Pact Token” that you would need to collect all (lets say 30, 10 in each map) of in order to buy a new weapon/armor skin. You can also buy them off of the trading post, and they are tradeable since there will only ever be 30 per character, so there would be a martket for these things, so new players just beating the game for the first time, and completing these events, would have a source of income beyond random dyes and rares they pick up from dead enemies.

None of these events would be instanced, even people that didn’t finish the game can still do them, but they wont get credit for the event heart until they beat the game, and it wouldn’t even show up on the top right of the screen, or on the map.

Southsun Cove could add in some event hearts for the same thing. You could even add some in other parts of the game that you can do after you defeat a Dragon Champion. And make these new event hearts seperate from world completion, make them optional, for achievement points, and weapon/armor skins. They don’t have to be mandatory!

Something like this, The Little Things, would do more to help quiet down the community and the perception that Anet ‘Forgot the Dragons’, than just about anything else (and more than anything, other than, maybe the original idea in this thread)

I take issue with that, because, Anet does not release some of these living story releases When they are ready. Anet relies on a very strict two week release schedule, and they give their different development teams 4 months to work on them. The problem with that is, is that some of the living story releases werent just broken and riddled with bugs on release, they were sometimes broken in spectacular fashion.

Want an Example? During the Queen’s Jubilee, in the Queen’s Gauntlet, there were lots of bugs, I would say legions of bugs, a nice army waiting to pounce on Anet’s perfect game when they got the chance. I would say my favorite one was the Deadeye Triple Threat!

That bug triggered when there was a large number of Deadeye Dunwell’s on the map in the various cages. I would be fighting one deadeye, and then suddenly, when it comes time for his teleport, he would switch places with another deadeye, and I would be fighting someone with a completely different health amount that I didn’t before. It was actually kind of funny one time, because all the other players died except me (which was a miracle, since I had to take down his healthbar past 150% because of the bug), and they all teleported away to my ring, where I revived them all.

That bug aside, there were also oversights too, such as when fighting that boss, my pet would sometimes spawn next to me, and the mine that was next to me would go off, taking away some of my health at the very start of the match (thank god that was fixed!). And all the Mines and Bombs, and teleporting Deadeye weren’t in the same position in all six rings. The Locations of everything in some rings were offset a little from the others, so while certain tactics would work in one ring, like flanking, they utterly failed in another, because the boss would port to the very edge of the ring instead of a couple meters from the edge like normal. This also happened when Fighting Liadri the Concealing Dark, where it was worse in my opinion. Those white circles you had to stand in, wouldn’t always spawn the same distance from the edge of the ring. Sometimes it would be good, and you could still manipulate the camera so you could still see the shadow clones, and lead them into the circle. Other times, the camera got so bad because of the location, that, you couldn’t even see them at nearly all camera angles.

The Queen’s Jubilee Living Story was not release by any possible definition of the word Done. Thank that fallen Spider God that Anet got a little wiser, and we don’t see these spectacular game breaking bugs and oversights anymore. My experience playing Guild Wars 2 has gotten much better since then because of the lack of glaring bugs, but, that inability to spot those bugs before release has to me, placed a little bit of a stigma on Anet. I go into each living story release now, fully expecting it to not be done and have those same bugs as it did before. That’s the impression that Anet left on me, and their Totally Awesome, Two Week Release Schedule that gets a Whole 4 Months of Development time!

In that case it wasn’t enough, and the game was not released when it was ready. From then on, I said that 4 months is not enough. If 6 months of development time would have saved us from those bugs, it should have been done.

In terms of story once Anet solves how they are going to handle progression of time in Orr, then we are at a point where we can start talking about dragons again, in my opinion. Besides Zhaitan fight is still abysmal I don’t want another dragon to be like he was. As a matter of fact I haven’t beaten him yet because of all the bad rep Orr got at the time I was ready to move there. I haven’t even set foot or seen the Orr related zones at all (just the Zhaitan fight second hand), when it comes to level 80 zones I am Frostgorge Sound all the way.

Completely agree. I think that we may have to wait until Wildstar releases though. NCSoft may not want them competing like that.

Speaking of Wildstar, they Made a game that took the best parts of World of Warcraft, and cut all the fat out, to make a lean, mean, WoW killing machine. Then they said “Screw that! We need some fat!”, so they took some ideas from Eve Online and several other MMO’s, then they took a look, and said “MOAR!!!!!”, What we have now is a monster of a game rolled into a giant greasy Bacon Burrito-Pizza with cake icing and chocolate syrup on top. The Size of that game kind of worries me though.

Eve Online is lightyears ahead of Gw2 in terms of being a living breathing universe, even though all of it is player driven.

Turbine made efforts to overhaul some of the classes in LOTRO early after release, because they realized some of them just didn’t work they way they intended, which is something Anet is unwilling(atleast publicly) to do with the Ranger for example, where it has been known that pets and the class in general are not really working like they should, and quick dirty band-aids (like increased health) keep getting applied instead of fixing the root of the problem.

Almost all MMO’s add new areas regularly, and keep them in the game, but Anet adds new areas, then takes them away a month later in almost all cases. That leaves player’s scratching their head wondering is that is what Anet is claiming, “that’s what makes the world living!!!” Also, Even offline RPG’s like Skyrim and Dragon Age are ahead of Guild Wars 2 in terms of the ingame Lore and story.

Speaking of Story, most MMO’s release several living story releases worth of content in a regular update patch, or in one large expansion every year or two, and they don’t need to embellish it with “Living World” just to get players to come back to see what is in it.

Even Blizzard has seen the need for adding content to its game faster, so people will actually come back and play it more often, instead of “New Expansion, play for month, leave. Come back in 2-3 years”. Guild Wars 2’s model isn’t much better, since its “New Release, play for 1 day, leave. Come back in 2 weeks”.

The only thing Guild Wars 2 has going for it, is its quality voice acting, and the fast paced combat system. The living World is starting to get better, and my opinion on it is going towards that as well, but, its not getting better very fast. And even though those threads pointing out all the “promises Anet made and they aren’t here yet” seem ridiculous, they do have a point. It seems at times like Anet has made more promises, than actual content.

I agree we need an expansion, or at a bare minimum, new area that doesn’t disapear after a month of being in the game, just, you know, not forgotten like Southsun Cove was.

My mesmer build is the only zerker build I have Chrispy, and I was taking the boss down pretty fast solo. But no, they kept asking me to wipe despite killing it fast. Noobs, the lot of them. As long as the boss dies is all I care about.

Wait, didn’t you just say that they wanted you to wipe because the fight was taking too long?

also, I’m not saying that all Zerkers are awful, just that a vast majority of them are. Many can’t time their dodges properly, and get 1-2 shot by the boss. I will admit that I can’t time my dodges perfectly, so I do not use DPS heavy gear very often, instead going for survival heavy gear (Cleric, Apothecary, Magi, etc.).

Not just you Yamagawa, I’ve had it happen on my Mesmer. Usually because “it’s taking too long”.

And that’s what almost makes Zerker builds almost a necessity in Guild Wars 2. Most of the players are too freakin impatient, and would rather die and reset eleventy billion times than get it done right the first time.

…and also I’ve had that happen to me before too in several of the living story dungeons, having people ask me to res them or die to reset. Soloing the Clockheart was one of the most epic fights I ever had in this game, and I had to dodge electric fields, pull the boss around the map, while pulling a holo enemy to him, all with just me, my longbow, and my trusty bear (yeah, it was a Cleric Bearbow Build!…So?!?).

A High level storage unit is better than a low level storage unit….I guess…

What you say is true, but also other party members that go down & are struggling to get back up forcing the rest of their squad to stop & rez aren’t contributing consistent nonstop dmg & actually bring their totals down. So really what is the difference of having a medium armor class that does steady consistant dmg or a party of “spurt down spurt”? I am not talking of “elite organised parties” because truth is they are really few in comparison to average parties that prereq as if they are elite, yet are barely avg players themselves.

What you say is also true, and I have made an attempt or two to make that point on the forums before. But, the 0.05% of the players base that are Record Dungeon Speed Runners are louder than everyone else is, so, you tend to hear them talk about how awesome 5 Zerkers are (none of which are Rangers normally), referring to youtube videos. But, how many dozens, if not hundreds, of attempts were made at making that flawless video? And can they repeat the results, using the same immaculate dodging and skill timing that they had to do on the last run?…Not likely. (thats .05% of the .05% that can do even that) Those types of groups aren’t as awesome as they would have you think.

I don’t understand why ppl would choose to not have rangers in their pt, to me they seem pretty viable. Add extra def/attack from spirits which in case most of u don’t realize have a buff range of 1,200. Search & Rescue to pick up downed players in case of emergencies. Heal spirit for bosses, healing spring to remove conditions and heal players. And then a nice selection of pet abilities that can be applied as well such as condition removal, healing, buffs, on top of all that extra healing abilities in non controllable pet skills. PLUS… xD…. the nice vulnerability debuff that can be constantly added to bosses/mobs from lb

Nowhere in that paragraph did you talk about the OMG ITS SO EPIC! ITS OVER 9000! damage that Rangers can do. Groups only care about Zerkers and dealing as much damage in as short of time as possible.

Healing Power, Toughness, and Vitality are all not as effective on a point for point tradeoff as Power, Precision, or Condition Damage is. Rangers also recieve only half the damage increase from Power as other classes would because of the pet, so those groups do have a point, Zerker’s rule! (as long as they aren’t rangers!)

(…and Not that I agree with that, I use Magi gear almost exclusively now, regardless of what other people say, since some pets with 25 stacks of might and the appropriate traits in Skirmishing and Beastmastery can deal alot more damage, and survive longer than pretty much anything else)

Shall we give Kits to all other professions so they can properly utilize Rune of the Engineer?

I am going to assume for a second this is not a trick question or sarcasm, even though it is…….

YES!!! Other Professions should get Bundle skills. Engineers don’t need more than 1 class mechanic anyways! Necromancers should get some sort of Plague Doctor Kit that lets them heal allies and transfer condityions from them and allies around to their enemies. Rangers should get some sort of Trap Bundle that lets them use traps like they were weapon skills instead of having to waste 3 utility skills and 30 trait points, just to be viable. Thieves should get…..(My random ideas ran out after that, and so did my sarcasm, but you get the idea)

I looked around, and the only other rune that gives Aegis is this ::
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Monk

That Rune affects up to 5 players when using an elite skill, and has a 60 second cooldown. Hopefully the new runes have a reasonable cooldown, otherwise any class with signets (sorry engineers) could just pop off three rather quickly and avoid getting hit. You could also time them just right, and that would make you almost immortal, even with the longer signet cooldowns that other classes have.

These new runes/Sigils appear quite interesting…I’m curious as to whether they will be tradable and also if the sigil of momentum implies an effect like the sigil of bloodlust but with toughness (ie +10 toughness). Anyone know?

I’m going to take a guess that it is like Bloodlust, Perception, Corruption, and Life Sigils, but it does say momentum, not somthing that actualy relates to toughness or armor at all, so, I can also take a guess that if you fail to kill an enemy in a certain amount of time, the stacks might be lost.

I’m also going to guess that the runes atleast are tradable because they are already a rare find as it is above fractal level 30, and at the rate you find rare items, it could be a year before you get a full set if its account bound.

Also, Different Classes are going to benefit from that set of runes differently. Classes that have signets with long cooldowns wont have as much benefit as classes with quicker cooldowns. Since I play with Ranger and Necromancer, I probably wont be investing in this rune set.

Elen bought her votes by offering waypoint reduction. Also she did nothing in dungeons 0 helpfulness. So for 50 silver over course of 1 month people voted for her which for any 80 player by now know is worth nothing.

Some people gave off the wall numbers of 50 gold that they saved because of the reduced waypoint costs. Lets say the average waypoint cost at level 80 is 2 silver (the cheapest is 1s39c, and the most expensive can run up to around 4 silver)

2s – 20% = 1s60c, a 40 copper savings. That person would of had to fast travel 12,500 times in order to save 50 gold!!! Seriously?!? Many people say they spent 8 gold a week fast traveling, and they would need to travel an average of 400 times a week to spend 8 gold, and in order to save an average of 2 gold, they would need to fast travel an average of 400 times. That’s a little crazy, and maybe at that point, you possibly deserve to lose that much money, traveling around like its free (even though it isn’t!)

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

As far as Evon goes,…What we should do, is try to organize an ingame event in support of Evon and the Abbadon Fractal. This is a living world after all, and Anet does like to talk about how important the players are in changing the world. I think that if enough of us stand up, shout, and make our voices heard, then Lions Arch (and by extenstion, Anet) has no choice but to listen to our voices, and research a new fractal (and also create a new seat on the Captain’s council for Evon Gnashblade in order to avoid riots in the street) Sure, it would have to be a massive * , cross server effort in order to get their attention, and even if Anet listens to us, it would be 6 months to a year before we see it, but that is what it will take.

- * When I mean massive, I mean, we need Lions Arch in all servers to be filled into overflow with no one but Evon Supporters. Thats quite a few thousand of players.

Players have caused developers to make changes and add stuff in other games in the past. You can read about Eve online, and see a dozen examples. Of course, Anet isn’t CCP, so, probably nothing will happen either way…

And, almost every Television Show, in the entire history, of, Freaking EVER, isn’t on the same Cycle? Is the Joker supposed to not get away? Is Megatron supposed to die at the end of the 13th episode, instead of at the end of the series? Since the Secret research lab blew up, the Zombie outbreak should be automatically over then, right? I guess that everyone lived happily ever after at the end of the first season of [Insert Fantasy/Sci Fi series here]? That’s how T.V. works, at the end of the season/start of the next one, pretty much everything goes back to the status quo, no matter who won the victory at the end of the season, and no matter who the villian was.

Wow so naive. This also worries me who I am talking to – joker, megatron? – how old are you? Plenty of movies have developed. Have you ever watched breaking bad? yeah its the one that got all the awards. Why? Because every session Walt passed a point of no return (its called development). This is why it was so acclaimed. Sure you cheesy sitcom can be cyclical but other movies/tv shows pass a point(Prison Break for example). Maybe I should watch more transformer cartoons to understand where your coming from.

The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad didn’t have a status quo in the same way that a serialized show did, though. At the end of any episode, characters have grown, their relationships have developed, and in general things have CHANGED. No, Walt sticking to cooking is not the same as a show setting everything back to default because it’s serialized. He still changed, everyone around him changed, the story developed. Same with TWD. You don’t need to end the primary conflict (the zombies) to progress the story or to make it NOT serialized. That doesn’t even make sense.

And you see no character development in Guild Wars 2? I still say you guys are all angry because the central character isn’t developing at the pace you want, but nothing more. There’s been plenty of development all over the place with other characters and places.

And one more thing. What do you think Guild Wars 2 is rated? Oh yeah, its rated T for Teen in America. Now, I might not have been a Teen for 6 years, and I am still a fan of many shows and comics that I grew up with, but I think its more Absurd that you guys are Expecting, worse, Demanding, a M for Mature story on the level of Game of Thrones instead of taking it for what it is. That’s actually moving away from Absurd, and more towards “Then why the kitten are you still playing this game? Its obviously not sophisticated enough for your palette?”

You really don’t see much character development, no. Rox is still the exact same “i hope rytlock notices me!” character she was six months ago, Braham, Kasmeer, and Marjory have had a little bit more character development, but then, the main villain, and the actual story itself is in a state of stasis. Scarlet has not changed at all since she was introduced. None of the Alliances have gotten any development despite being the focal point of their respective updates. And the living story and living world are exactly where they were in February. GW2 isn’t a sit com, it doesn’t need to keep their world in stasis and reset it at the end of every episode, but that’s what the living story is.

And no, you don’t need to be “M for Mature” to tell a story that’s not serialized. There have been kid’s shows with an actual story to them, you know. It has nothing to do with being “mature”, and everything to do with not wanting to be lazy with your story telling.

There is quite a large difference between returning to the Status Quo, and Reseting everything, but, I am starting to see that trying to change your mind, is like trying to teach a fire hydrant Russian. It can’t be done.

But I will say that you must not watch very many sitcoms, because even the most basic of sitcoms on the disney channel have character development every episode. And I still don’t get what’s wrong with a serialized story telling. I keep hearing you guys mention it like it is a bad thing, but you have failed to explain why so far.

As for Character Developent. If you don’t see it, you don’t see it. I could explain all day how the Aetherblades have developed a little from mysterious sky pirates to Scarlet’s lackeys that she forced a majority of them to work for them, because hey, they like living better, but, you’re still going to ignore that sentence like its in ancient Latin and should eb ignored. Something tells me that even if Scarlet was involved in the reactor explosion, and if the fractal proves it, and even shows character development with her, you will still be the one to say it doesn’t exist, and trying to prove you otherwise brings me back to the fire hydrant.

Those aren’t the right shows to compare this too. :/
The Comic book hero/villain way still exist and always will. Nice thing is they’re darker and more violent and serious nowadays though. Unfortunately GW2 isn’t a gory game.
Those are TV Dramas which have also always existed as is.. o.O

actually what is the right show? some cartoon network show or something a ‘little’ more complex. I would hope this community is has a bit more depth than some after school tv show.

Well, why do we have to use a television show? Why not a Comic Book? One similar Character I can think of to Scarlet, is probably, Vandal Savage (Minus the immortality on one side, and minus the crazy on the other). That’s one of the most popular comic book villians ever, And,….

….Actually, nevermind. Someone is going to disagree, and reply to me saying its different no matter what I type.

And you see no character development in Guild Wars 2? I still say you guys are all angry because the central character isn’t developing at the pace you want, but nothing more. There’s been plenty of development all over the place with other characters and places.

go on, tell us this “depth” and “development” since you are so in favour of the scarlet story please tell us. what makes her so interesting..

I already proved that Scarlet has depth and development as a character in a much earlier post. Don’t get angry at me, just because its not in the game. Why wasn’t it in the game earlier? Some subtle hints atleast? Its probably because Anet didn’t think of the Scarlet character until they started to think of the living story, which was near/after the game released. While I agree, they seriously need to put some stufff in the game so it makes sense, since Scarlet was just about everywhere before she became Scarlet, that doesn’t suddenly invalidate the character’s existence. As for the development of other characters. Yeah. There is no way I am going to list every single one, and I am not going to because one person says it doesn’t exist.

But, that’s where everyone gets the idea that the Krait are so evil, so xenophobic, that they would never work with another race (that you are still complaining about, two quotes down). Most of that material isn’t even in the game. Its on wikis and blogs. But the Scarlet stuff is out of game, The Krait not dealing with others is IN-GAME. how many alliances IN-GAME do you see the Krait forming besides this B.S Scarlet patch? they are taking slaves for mulitple factions, attacking all others that are near to them IN-GAME. why can’t you see that? are you playing the same game we are?

That alone that is enough. Why do you think the wiki says these things? do you think some random made it up for fun? no, it’s part of the lore and script from GW1 and GW2. it’s IN-GAME.

Video game stories aren’t like TV. There really is no reason for it to be super formulaic and serialized. Shoot, the most popular tv shows don’t even do that anymore. Look at Breaking Bad. Was that on the same cycle as the living story? Heck no. There was no “status quo”, every episode developed the story. I know anet specifically referred to using elements from TV shows for story telling, but do they really have to use the same format that saturday morning cartoons use?

Well, you didn’t noticed that I referenced the Walking Dead in my post, which is definitely not a Saturday morning cartoon (and I’m pretty sure its one of the most popular things on television right now). And sorry to say, but, Breaking Bad did follow the same formula, and you saw the main character for the first half of the show, giving his monologue about how he has to continue ‘cooking’, normally mid season, or sometimes at the middle/end of several episodes back to back. If The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad suddenly stopped doing the status quo from time to time (it doesn’t have to be at the end of the season of episode), and went in totally opposite directions, then no one would have watched them. Its why Doctor Who still exists 50 years later, and its why some series like Stargate have lasted so long. There is very few shows that actually break that formula, and I would have to say that, maybe, possibly, Battlestar Galactica is one of the only shows to ever break that pattern, (except for the fact that at the end of the series….well, yeah….)

1) Read the short story. It doesn’t matter that it wasn’t in the game. Fact is, they gave the character depth. Oh sure, complain that its not in the game!

actually it does matter, relying on sources that aren’t in-game is a terrible way to tell a story. So far we have information about Scarlet scattered amongst the game, short stories, interviews with writers, and random posts on these forums… and you’re saying it doesn’t matter. Not everyone knows about them and even still it doesn’t give the character depth instead that created a MarySue type villain which is worse.

But, that’s where everyone gets the idea that the Krait are so evil, so xenophobic, that they would never work with another race (that you are still complaining about, two quotes down). 2) Your telling me that a seemingly normal area in the game, suddenly gets an illusion in the middle of a lake and all the trees are cut down around it, then the tower gets revealed and there’s toxic spores everywhere, to you assaulting your way to the top of the tower then killing the Krait’s prophet god, isn’t a developing story?

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Its because the story is on a cycle, its an repetitive recipe. Step 1 – Scarlet creates an alliance, Step 2 – we foil her plans, Step 3 – she teleports away, Step 4 – go to Step 1.

And, almost every Television Show, in the entire history, of, Freaking EVER, isn’t on the same Cycle? Is the Joker supposed to not get away? Why is no one angry that the Char are working together with humans? They should still be killing each other. Oh wait, that’s right. Time is supposed to change things. a couple hundred years and elder dragons changed those two races to where they were working together.

So did 250 years pass from the previous patch to this one? No one knows how difficult the process was for the Char and humans to create an alliance. Even now there is the resistance so everything is not all perfect like you may suggest. The Krait have been always the most violent xenophobic race since GW2 was released, this alliance with the Nightmare court hasn’t developed over 250yrs like the Char/Human alliance has.

Uh, huh, so? In 250 years since the first time we saw them, a Dragon pushed them out of their homeland. You can argue for how xenophobic the krait are all day, but, if your getting your kitten kicked by an elder dragon from one direction, and all your efforts to enslave everyone else has failed in another direction, then I am pretty sure you will go for option C. Option C did not change the fate that the Krait are still the most xenophobic race, or that they wont enslave the Nightmare Court, especially if (and hopefully when) they find out Scarlet was playing them all along. It does show their desperation to regain their power back to where it was, no matter what they have to do to get it.

SPOILERS!!!!! (seriously, if you read this far into the thread, you know that already!)

Some more screenshots of the dialogue….

The 1st line is Petra.
The 2nd line,…I’m not sure actually. It might just be a random line of dialogue, or it might be referring to your unknown parents if you chose that at character creation.
The rest is…, when fighting Tybalt. It was the last fight before completing the achievement too, and now, I really don’t want to go back into those instances and have to fight him again…

Compound Bow Needed for Rangers

You can technically hit enemies at 1800 range using the longbow. While you are hitting them, start to move backwards while still hitting them, after a few seconds, you are already outside their aggro bubble, the enemy health regenerates, and they go back to their position.

If We had a weapon that could hit enemies at, say, 2100 range, it would never aggro the enemy. They would just stand there, looking at you like your stupid, while saying “Ha, ha, Ha! I have infinite health, kitten!” . And during events, if you were way outside the Champion’s range, his health would start regenerating, even if other players were attacking it, because he wants you for lunch, not someone else! That’s what is game breaking about the mechanic. Its not that you can’t hit something that far away, Siege in WvW can do that just fine.

Unless that comment was directed at Marjory or Kasmeer and not specifically at the player….

And, I do agree with Scarlet on atleast one thing. I do think the queen is a silly, fat-headed royal!
….
….Anet! Now you have me agreeing with Scarlet instead of wanting to see her chopped into salad! That is totally not the direction I thought the story was going!

I just had to fight Logan. That was actually a tough fight, but, I don’t think my character cries herself to sleep every night because Logan doesn’t love her as much as a silly, fat-headed royal.

I also had to rescue Petra, she was in one of the cages, but that’s the only other character from the story that I saw so far.

I specced entirely for defense, condition removal, and healing because of the crazy stuff this map had, and I was able to solo most of it, and I also didn’t die once. It took a little longer, but I didn’t die….Why?

Well, its simple….Glass cannons are going to get 1 or 2 shot, and that’s by design. If you don’t want to die one one hit, you could give yourself some toughness and vitality. But hey, DPS is supposed to be king in this game, so why even bother, right?

Unless you are a warrior. I brought my zerker warrior to that place after playing a bit with other two professions and it was a faceroll like usual. Charge in, spam 100b, stuff is dead and I feel more tanky than my engi with over 3000 armor. Oh well…

I should note that I have ran through the Tower, as a Ranger, with These four gear sets already, and 1 death:::

Cleric(0), Magi(1), Berzerker(0), and Rampager(0). I’ve solo’d it with Cleric and Rampager gear, and was in a group the other two times. Sometimes, I like going full glass cannon, and just killing anything that moves. That includes trading out your precious bears for cats or birds, since you’ll kill things alot faster that way. Other times, I rather be a little more defensive and take things a little more slowly, since it is a literal faceroll if I build the character right, I don’t even have to dodge.

How about you make a post that proves : 1) Scarlet has no depth, 2) The Story Doesn’t Develop, 3) No questions are ever answered, and 4) there is no motive.

actually the burden of proof is on you. I not going to try and give you examples of things that don’t exist.

1) Read the short story. It doesn’t matter that it wasn’t in the game. Fact is, they gave the character depth. Oh sure, complain that its not in the game!

All these Story arcs are self contained, or bleed over into one or two others. I am pretty sure that is by design, but you can’t say it doesn’t move on and continue foward. What? Are you angry that you haven’t seen any development in Scarlet’s story yet?

3) Even if you answered all of the questions yourself, the game explained very well why the Krait are working with another race that is underneath them, and that cutscene/story recap that played answered almost everything else up to that point. But wait, most of the content that explains the Krait’s hatred towards other races is also not in the game. Why are you going to be angry about Scarlet’s story not being in the game, but you are perfectly okay with the Krait’s not being in the game?

Why is no one angry that the Char are working together with humans? They should still be killing each other. Oh wait, that’s right. Time is supposed to change things. a coupld hundred years and elder dragons changed those two races to where they were working together. I guess the same 250 year expanse of time and an elder dragon kicking the Krait out of their homelands isn’t enough motive yet to team up with someone else, but, it was enough for humans and Char? Are you angry that it was such a sudden change, or are you angry because you don’t know how long this was going on behind the scenes?

Here’s the oher problem Thobek. You, and dozens of other people on the forums complain about the Character’s apparent lack of depth, the lack of story development, the lack of questions answered, and the lack of motive, but you don’t offer up any specific examples. You say you hate the story, but just hating something isn’t really enough. What is the reason you hate it, and if its because of Scarlet, you need to offer specific examples so Anet doesn’t make your percieved mistake in the future. How the heck do you expect Anet to fix that problem if you can offer any proof? What, is it that hard to prove something doesn’t exist? Religion and Science have been doing that for thousands of years. It shouldn’t be too hard for you.

I hope one of ANet’s writers reads this. Hell, I hope Bobby reads it.
You wrote a bad story, Bobby. It feels like you looked to David Cage for storytelling and Matt Ward for character creation.

David Cage wrote the story for a game called Indigo Prophecy in 2005. That game went from simple, something’s possesing people to kill other people, and within the span of 30 minutes at the end of the game, escalated into something involving the mayans and something about the world ending. That story was as convulted as can be and made no sense at the end. Heavy Rain was alright for a story, and Beyond Two Souls was acceptable. But, just because you can write one good story does not mean you should write all of them. Anet, Stay away from that guy.

Oh no!
Someone has something good to say about the Living Story… About /SCARLET!/
Quick! Every naysayer come in and shout out their opinion /yet again!/ This horse hasn’t been beaten quite to glue yet!!!!

Sarcasm aside, what exactly are you are expecting? Shakespeare level writing for characters in an MMO?
Scarlet /is/ a comic book villain. Explaining how or why she does the things she does is akin to asking how the Joker manages to get enough explosives inside a building to threaten to blow it up without anyone seeming to notice. If anything, she makes more sense then the Joker ever does because at least in Tyria, you really /can/ use ‘magic’ to do all sorts of things (like oh… I dunno… combine things that don’t normally go together… Like Oakhearts and Clockwork…)

As for the cinematic itself… I liked it. Just as I liked Scarlet as a Joker-esque villain. That’s my opinion, which makes it just as valid as anyone elses here (minus the constant vitriol aimed at the Developers. :P)

Maybe Anet is targetting people like you – the easily pleased.

But there are others, the people that are complaining in the forums, that want something more; a character with depth, a story that develops, questions that are answered, a motive…

How about you make a post that proves : 1) Scarlet has no depth, 2) The Story Doesn’t Develop, 3) No questions are ever answered, and 4) there is no motive.

Scarlet has depth as a character. Everything that was showing in (and out) of game has proved that to this point. What, is everyone angry that there weren’t subtle hints in Beta in early 2012 about this? Is everyone angry that they didn’t know anything about scarlet when the first living story update hit? Is everyone angry that they didn’t know the character’s motives 9 months ago?

What? You guys are telling me that you automatically knew that there was a crazy guy named Sephiroth who has god-like powers that wanted to summon a giant space rock to destroy the earth, and the only reason he is doing it is because he found out that he is a clone of his alien space mommy that came to earth in order to suck out its life energy before destroying it, and you found this out on the very first cutscene of Final Fantasy VII?…No? I thought not.

(…this post comming from someone who HATED Living Story up until a month or two ago…)

On the subject of the cutscene, I liked it. I like the style, and I thought it was a good reward for going through two hours of Pain, Torture, Death, Unfair Stuns and CC effects, watching other players run into the spore mines and killing a dozen other players in the process, etc. I liked that it tied up, and explained the entire living story up to this point, even though I knew all of it already (….except for Scarlet’s attraction to Faren’s panties). I also like it better than getting the millionth back or helmet skin that I will get anyways, but will probably just sit in my bank unused until I can think of a character to put it on. (I have two bank tabs filled with unused skins right now…)

Is not solo'able

It took a zerg of 40 people 7 minutes to kill the spider queen and you claim to solo it…. I doubt you soloed the champion wurm since from that zerg of 40 around ~25 made it alive after killing it and you claim to solo it…. Cool stories uncle Kelnter. Tell us more.

You know what is event scaling, it simple means more players=higher difficulity, less player=lower difficulity.
Whit 40 players around bosses can 1 shot you, thats a matter of fact, try to go at it whit 2-4 ppl and you will see the difference.

This right here. Its why a group of 40+ can get wiped trying to do group events in Orr sometimes, but one person can /faceroll through the whole thing, if they are skilled enough.
