The Krait Obelisk shard, Its not in the game yet. Its just from a screenshot posted by Anet. you can find the original screenshot in this section of the website:::
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/media/screenshots/

And here is the actual Screenshot:::
https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/a2d9102-Krait-Obelisk-Shard.jpg

I noticed the cut down trees, the illusion, the construction sounds comming from the center of the lake, the change in music. But the one thing that interests me the most is that screenshot showing the Obelisk Shard. Now I really want to know what exactly Anet is planning! Guess we’ll find out in 2 days, huh?

Also, The Shard might be related to the Solid Ocean Fractal, which is related to the Jade Sea in Gw1, which itself was created 450 years ago by Shiro when he died, using magic he took from the Emperor of Cantha when he was slain, which involved some dark rituals before the act was one. The magic itself ripped from the emperor was given to him by Dwayna (atleast the wiki says so, its been way too long since I wactually played the game), yet, people keep saying an Elder Dragon is involved. We know that the Salt Spray Dragons are Dragons, and the biggest, baddest saltspray dragon of them all, Kuunavang, is obviously a champion of an Elder Dragon, but, what do they actually have to do with the Jade sea?

The floating bows in the screen shot make this look like that Orr (the Lyssa temple specifically, although I could be wrong) so I doubt this is a new krait dungeon unless the krait are using the floating bows. The character is in light armour with a rifle, so that’s not an engineer but a light class using an environmental weapon, but I don’t recall environmental rifles being involved in the Lyssa temple event (maybe they are updating it ala Tequatl?).

The screenshots page has been updated. It includes an image called “Krait Obelisk Shard” with a glowing green rock inside what appears to be Divinity’s Reach, and another image called Antitoxin Spray which I think might be in Orr. I don’t think the second image has to do with the Krait (possibly a new engineer skill?). Looks like the krait are preparing to attack Divinity’s Reach.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/media/screenshots/

I give it a 1% chance of being a random new Resource Node with yet another new Gear stat!

That is possible. The NPCs in that screen shot don’t seem to concerned about the shard being there. They seem rather content to ignore it. If the krait were attacking, the people might be a little more concerned.

Another possibility is that the Krait Obelisk Shard is somehow related to the Solid Ocean Fractal? I included a screenshot for comparison (and also a random jade weapon to show that it doesn’t look similar but the other two do look almost the same…)

If you could create a vilain... ?

I want an actual Nemesis, and if the Nemesis has to be Scarlet, you have to be starting to get on her nerves after stopping her on atleast three seperate occasions already. I would want her to not only be a better, even more demented villian, but a villian that really irritates you on a more personal level.

I want a Living Story Release where she apparently knows everything there is about you, and she totally uses that to her advantage to get under your skin. For Example…

You get a letter from Logan, Rytlock, Caithe, Eir, or Zojja, saying that you need to go speak to them, Immediately!. Scarlet left a “Package” for you.

You go to them, depending on where (for this example, lets stick with Logan, you need to go to the Seraph headquarters), and you see a giant box. Well, you knew what happened the last time Scarlet sent you a package, so you take extreme caution. You open the package, and its just a holographic Scarlet, talking to you The Player Directly.

She says that she has taken an interest in you, seeing as you have stopped her plans on atleast three seperate occasions, she wants to speak to you. Logan says that this is an obvious trap, you shouldn’t do it! Then the holographic Scarlet keeps talking. She says that she thought that you might not want to come, so just in case…, she kidnapped someone important to you so your would be sure to come rescue them like the good hero you are! (In the case of humans, this would be Lord Faren, Petra, or Quinn, your friends depending on the social status you picked at character creation)

You go to the Location Scarlet marked on your map. (It could be an Aetherblade base in the Shiverpeaks for example) Turns out, it was a trap. You and Logan are attacked by Aetherblades almost immediately. As you make your way into the base, you find more Holographic scarlets telling you everything she knows about you and also about how much of a pain in her backside you’ve been.

(spoilers for those who havent finished these stories yet)

It gets really strange just how much she knows about you. She literally recaps every choice you made during your story, and make some random comments about things you did when you were younger (such the cute little drake hatchling you chose as a companion when you were just starting with your Ranger training). You get to the top of the tower, and there, ready to fight you, is an abomination. Magic locks the doors behind you, leaving you and Logan in that room to fight or die. How did she even find them?!?

Standing infront of you, is a twisted, clockwork and flesh version of your Mentor! (Tybalt, Sieran, or Forgal depending on the order you took). To complicate things further, because Scarlet really, really, really, really, REALLY wants to see you not just dead, but totally embarrassed, Petra, Lord Faren, or Quinn are there under mesmer illusions and also attack you. Since Scarlet is seriously demented and doesn’t think that is enough, She’ll put your sister under a mesmer illuson for good measure, or force a necromancer to raise your dead parents and force you to fight them as well!

So, what do you do, do you fight them? Logan tells you that you have to! Atleast until he can get that door open! And fight you do. You have to, atleast until Logan gets the magic seal on the door broken, and you two retreat out of the tower.

At the bottom of the Tower, there is another hologram. Scarlet speaks to you, saying that she doesn’t think she needs to say anymore. The message should be clear!

You get a reward for completing the dungeon, but this whole instance should not be designed to feel like a victory,…for you atleast. It is 100% a total defeat. Scarlet knows everything there is to know about you, and she knows a weakness that can be used to your disadvantage in the future.

…That’s what I would do to make Scarlet a better Villian, or atleast one I would actually care about happily dicing into little bits of red salad in the future.

Edit : I’m sticking with Scarlet because the design of her character is very good. She just doesn’t feel like much of a threat yet, atleast to me, the player, who defeats her every time I see her. If there was an instance where she specifically defeats ME the player, then I would like her as a villian a little more. And as a bonus, it would also continue the personal story a little!

Why does "Guard" shout have a cast time?

in Ranger

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Because Rangers have to take a deep, and really SHOUT at their pet in order to get it to do anything other than just stand there! ((SHHHH! – Don’t tell Anet that our other shouts are instant or they’ll nerf it!))(/sarcasm)

Also, the 15 second cooldown that many of you failed to noticed, or just didn’t want to notice (10 seconds shorter than any other shout), might be the reason. (okay, now its /sarcasm!). To balance the shout to have no activation, Its probably not as simple as just making the cooldown 16 seconds instead.

I agree with many complaints here, especially the never ending Champion faceroll that goes on during many Living World Events. Some Living World releases seem completely inconsequential to an actual living world, and I don’t see Living Story actually meaning what Anet meant when they spoke about it at the begining of the year….

….except that Anet might actually be starting to actually “Change” the world. All of the Trees around Viathan Lake has been cut down. Theres a giant illusion preventing us from getting to the center of the lake to see where those construction sounds are comming from. Its a great lead up to the next living world release in a few weeks. We’ll see if it has everlasting Zerg faceroll mechanics or not, and hopefully it isn’t.

It’s funny how everyone noticed some trees that got chopped down, but really few noticed the whole kittening fishing village was wiped off the face of Tyria… But I am really happy that they revisited this area, besides from the tengu and the wizard’s tower, sadly there is nothing really interesting to see here besides ettins here, centaurs there… Really pleased with the secretive approach, here’s hoping we get amazed with the next story

The before screen is from the wiki, and here is some more stuff for you guys to read up on if you’re interested. I remember seeing the concept art even before this, on the blog they had before the game came out. Luckily, the text has been saved on the wiki.

Actually, the first thing I noticed was that the music abruptly changes from generally happy Kryta music to something you would normally hear in Orr and other Wastelands. I am pretty sure it wasn’t like that before.

Also, my crazy theory for next week::

It involves the Tengu. They think they are safe from the outside world, living happy behind their walls. Well, the Krait who believe themselves superior to everything want to send a message to the rest of the land dwelling races, that not even the isolated Tengu are safe,,,,or something like that…

That, or Red Salad is involved.

Sword better than Greatsword? Explain.

in Ranger

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Uh….Lets use some math, so everyone can understand why the Sword does more damage.

(all damage numbers, activation times, and Cooldown taken from wiki)

Sword
Slash : 202 (1/2 sec)
Kick : 202 (1/4 sec) and a cripple
Pounce : 235 (3/4 sec) and might for pet

202 + 202 + 235 = 639 / 1.5 seconds = 426 DPS Gives might to your pet. Also a cripple

Hornet’s Sting : 235 (1/2 sec)
Monarch’s Leap : 336 (3/4 sec) and a cripple
also an 8 second recharge

235 + 336 = 571 / 9.25 seconds = 62 DPS

Serpent’s Sting : 235 (1 second) + 504 poison
Also a 15 second recharge
235 + 504 = 739 / 16 seconds = 46 DPS

Greatsword
Slash : 203 (1/2 sec)
Slice : 203 (1/2 sec)
Power Stab : 240 (3/4 sec)

203 + 203 + 240 = 646 / 1.75 seconds = 369 DPS Plus 1 second Evade

Maul : 434 (3/4 sec)
also a 6 second recharge

434 / 6.75 seconds = 64 DPS

Swoop : 327 (1 3/4 sec)
also a 12 second recharge

327 / 13.75 seconds = 24 DPS

First off, Autoattack is King when it comes to DPS, forget the other skills. Second, The Sword does more DPS, especially after you add in basic pet DPS for both, then add in the Might you can give your pet from the Sword’s auto attack. You pet also gains might for each enemy you hit on Pounce (up to three stacks each time). After you add the damage from the Torch or Warhorn, the Sword’s total damage will end up far outdoing the Greatsword.

I have fallen for this bug a million times before, even though its been covered on the forums for months. So, I’ll say it. All The tooltips for all Pets are Still bugged.

Pet F2’s scale with their stats, and their stats only. Your Stats do not affect their F2’s in any way, even though the skill itself always shows otherwise.

You have to Trait Malicious Training For extra pet Condition Duration, Pet’s Prowess for increased pet Critical Damage, Expertise Training For pet Condition Damage, Concentration Training For pet Boon Duration, and Compassion Training For increased pet Healing Power.

The highest you can get your Fern Hound to Heal is for 1350, and 15 seconds of Regeneration that will heal for an additional 2,606 health. That’s it.

If I am reading the numbers right from NCsoft’s Quarterly reports and doing the conversions properly(the numbers are in millions of South Korean Wons, so 1 would equal 1,000,000 wons, which equals 941 u.s. dollars currently), They made 36,382,000,000 KRW (34 MILLION u.s. dollars) in Q1 2013, and 28,899,000,000 KRW (27 MILLION u.s. dollars) in Q2 2013. That is off of Guild Wars 2 sales, (not accounting for royalties, labor, or anything else.)

Openly saying that you refuse to buy gems is not the way to go dude. You wont even make a dent. Not anymore than making a fool of yourself on the forums would do. Making sure you stay on top of your complaints about the Ranger Profession, and keep updating Anet about what you like and hate in their recent balance patches (which for alot of people, is nearly everything!!!) is probably the best way to go, and even if Anet decides to redesign the class (they might be working on it right now), it could be six months before we even hear anything about it because of how long that stuff takes.

Sigh.. If only Anet admits they have a horrible pet system and redesign the whole thing even more with the new ascended gear making pets more useless, but we all know they are too proud and stubborn the flaw of almost all game designers.
Anyway good jo with your ideas, I love everything except the sword 2 I like they way it is now gives an impressive escape mechanic.

Its not that Anet is Too proud or Stubborn to redesign the whole thing. Its that in order to redesign an entire Profession, they have to put out massive resources in order to reprogram everything involved with the Ranger, then they have to spend months just balancing the new and improved profession with the seven others in PvP, and with everything in the rest of the game. They also have to take every single living story update into acount during that period (lets call it six months), and Anet hasn’t even started work on Living Story six months from now.

What I myself am most disappointed in is how the class plays, not necessarily how effective they are in the game. I’m not only disappointed in how Ranger pets act currently, but other than the fact that Rangers can tell their pet when to attack and run away, I see absolutely zero difference between them, and a Necromancer’s minions, or summons from other professions. For the fact that Pets are supposed to be the Ranger’s Class Mechanic, that is literally half of the class, that lack of distinction between pets and other minions is not a good thing. Its a terrible thing.

I am also not going to be too optimistic that it will get improved at any point in the near future.

I’m not saying it’ll never happen. In online games, Classes get not just balanced, but completely redesigned after release all the time. You can look at almost any MMO as an example. The only thing we as players can hope to do until Anet starts work on improving the Ranger is to keep these suggestions comming, and make sure we are vocal (but not outright disrespectful) about what we hate about the Ranger and what we want improved, and new stuff we want to see.

They existed in Guildwars 1, and acted like a mount,…sort of, were only accessible in certain areas, and didn’t really make you any more or less powerful, since Anet scaled the mobs in the area for the wurm’s power. You could use them only in areas where you couldn’t travel on foot.

If the Desolation(Northwest Elona) ever comes back to Gw2, I really hope Anet puts them in the game.

I like the Pet ideas. The weapon ideas need some work though. Also, a Legendary Collar that turns Canines into a Mistfire Wolf, complete with the armor it wears. That would be AWESOME!!!

also, ideas…

(1) Change Master’s Bond to also increase Secondary attributes on kill, that increases Condition Damage and Healing Power by 8 per kill, to a max. of 25 stacks like how it affects primary attributes right now (power, precision, toughness, vitality). Maybe even increae Critical damage, Condition Duration and Boon duration too (+1% per kill?). This will make the trait all around more useful.

I would also suggest that the trait be fixed so your active pet doesn’t lose all its stacks when going in and out of water, It only gets transferred to your active aquatic pet. This will make the trait useful in areas with alot of water areas (like, everywhere in Orr, and Frostgorge Sound).

(2) you messed up on Pet’s Prowess. That trait increases Pet’s Critical damage by 30%. That’s still a useful trait, and we don’t need it changed. What you want to change is Agility Training. (also, shadow stepping is kind of the Thief’s thing. I would rather Agility Training give the pet a 3/4 second evade whenever you dodge, but, that’s probably just me!)

(3) Pets still need to have their 71% extra health because of the lack of an armor stat or evade. Keep That, or give them defense like players have that adds together with toughness to make the armor stat, instead of just toughness. Pets still have their own skills and attack speeds, so maybe pets can have their own armor values as well that gets added with their toughness (light, medium, or heavy, just like players). Having more armor instead of health would also make it easier to heal them.

I like your initiative, but honestly why waste it here? You should be able to tell after that last couple patches that nothing is going to come from your work. Why not put that time and effort into something more productive? Like school/work? Hell even another game would be worth more.

It doesn’t take that much effort. Also, a more organized approach may be appreciated. What’s the worst that could happen? We theory craft and hope, best case scenario, we post our compilation list, and they take SOME of the suggestions. Its a low risk, high gain (possible) scenario.

Also, we can sit around, and complain or we can still push forward! A lot of people will look at this and go…“What a waste of time”, but, at the end of the day, whats more productive, complaining on a forum, or making suggestions?

I agree. Anet already took some of our suggestions and put them in the game, you can look at this patch to see it. We should atleast try to have atleast one civilized thread to put whatever the best things we can come up with in one place, so some poor guy at Anet isn’t lost in the forums reading ten posts of rage at the begining of a thread, then skip the one constructive post in the middle of it all because he was tired of the rage quitting going on earlier.

((Also, I have alot of crazy, borderline random ideas I posted before, but lets be realistic in saying that 90% of them were way too OP to ever be considered by Anet. I’m going to rework some of them and post them in this thread this weekend))
….((as well as the slightly more practical balance suggestions. I guess I could throw those out there too.))

Can you all clarify something for me:

All player-controlled minions, excluding mesmer phantasms and clones because they were already increased in a previous patch, now have 71.43% more hit points in PvE maps.

Does this indeed include ranger pets and they’re pets ant not really minions? Always thought there was a difference between pets and minions.

At one point in the past (like 2010 kind of past, not that long before the game was released) Anet said that Ranger pets were something special for the class. While pet level and stats would always be tied to Ranger, Level, Pets would have their own multiple evolution levels, that would give bonus stats. The pets would level up as you used them. There was even supposed to be the ability to customize Pet skills at one point.

Link ::: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Pet&oldid=142513

Fast foward, and all the features that Anet promised with pets kind of, just vanished, either because like other features originally planned and announced, they bit off way more than they could chew and just gave up on it, or they just didn’t see the point in going into that much detail for a Class Mechanic. Had Anet actually done it and not called it quits, Pets could have been something really special to the class, but instead, they are, just mere minions, not unlike the minions/summons/objects the Necromancer, Elementalist, Mesmer, Guardian, Warrior, Thief, and Engineers all have access to. In Anet’s efforts to generalize everything, every class became a pet class…..

How to make people want to do Tequatl

in Suggestions

Posted by: Chrispy.5641

Chrispy.5641

Its easier, and takes way less effort, to make gold by going to kill random level 80 creatures in Frostgorge sound and Cursed Shore than it is to even bother doing either Tequatl, or even the Karka Queen.

On the subject of how to make people want to do Tequatl. The problem isn’t getting people to do the event. People want to do the event. The problem is that a majority of Guild Wars 2 players, like Gw1 before it, are Casual Players. You know, not Hardcore, Dungeon soloing, PvPing, WvWing, super experts that can faceroll all the content that Anet ever throws at them. I’m not really sure if Anet realizes it or not, but there are actually people who play this game that aren’t like that.

I get that there’s a fine line between:::

Too Hard < — Rewarding — > Too easy
(hardcore) --—(sweetspot) —-- (Casual)

and that, Anet, like most game companies, try to find a balance in the middle, so all their customers can be happy, but lately, almost all of their content has been as far left of that as possible, to the point of sometimes alienating up to 90% of the playerbase (which they themselves even admittted on occasion, such as when they talked about Liadri during one of their livestreams). most of those 90% of alienated players, are again, casual players, and are players who don’t yet have a full set of Exotic gear, with an Ascended Weapon and a set of Ascended Trinkets, etc, that all the new content is designed for.

Another problem with Tequatl, is that it doesn’t scale (except for the extremely messed up scaling that happens near the Turrets). scaling world events used to be a MAJOR selling point for Guildwars 2. The more players, the more challenging. The less players, the less challenging. The Fact that all World Bosses now have a time limit (which in my opinion, limits the amount of scaling an event has now), just moves Guild Wars 2 even further away from what was one of its best selling points when the game first came out. Tequatl, Jormag, and the Shatterer, used to be doable with a small group of 5 players, and the fights were absolutelty epic at times, especially the Jormag fight…Not anymore though. On lower population servers like Anvil Rock, the only dragon boss that ever gets done anymore is the Shatterer. We just don’t have enough people to take on Jormag in the time limit.

TL;DR On to the suggestion…I would say that the absolute best way to fix Tequatl, is to let the event scale again. Scale it to where even 5 players in a well coordinated group could complete the event in 15 minutes. Three people beat on Tequatl, while two players take control of the turrets. as more and more people get to the event, the event gets harder and harder,…you know, like how events in other parts of the game are supposed to work?

The rewards are fine if the event is changed to be able to scale again. The chance at an ascended weapon, as well as all the other stuff you get out of the various chests at the end of the event is fine. But the difficulty of the content right now does not justify the reward in any way, because there are alot of easier places to get the same stuff.

…And I learned how to dodge properly, so the damage I take in dungeons NEVER exceeds the amount I can self heal…

Healing is just not that important of a form of support in this game. It’s nice – it allows you to goof up more that you could otherwise, but since all of the content is geared to be done without a healer, there’s no scenarios where its required, and that in turn means there’s a real limit to how much it’s desired.

Don’t get me wrong, making a healer build for every class was the first big theorycraft into live testing project I had for this game. Rangers can heal adequately, but you can heal with Eles, warriors, mesmers, and engineers at least as well and often with less commitment of resources. Heck, my Guardian’s passive and eternal healing via Battle Presence is far less than what you’re describing and yet more than enough to put a spine of steel into most pugs.

Numbers, I showed you numbers for the Ranger. Now show me numbers for other classes, since you just mentioned 5 of them that can apparently heal for as much with less resources. don’t forget to account for the Moa bird and the spirit of nature when you decide to compare notes.

…And I laugh at every Zerker(well, anyone who doesn’t invest any into toughness) I come across in dungeons (especially Guardians) who curse out loud every time they get 1 shot by a boss, which is, quite a bit it would seem. I find it hilarious with how many times I ask these Zerker’s how good they are with dodging and stuff, only to find out five minutes later that 95% of them really suck at doing it.

I also don’t care so much about healing other players. You should be able to take care of yourselves. I also already said that the whole point of that long and detailed post I made, was to keep your pet alive, so it can keep dealing damage, since in most cases (actually, all cases, pretty much unless you have a lot of precision and crit damage), it will do more damage than you (or in rarer cases, tanking with a bear, devourer, or drake). It is good to keep pets alive, because, like those Zerkers who say they are Soooooo good at dodging, they aren’t dealing damage when they are dead, giving them lower DPS than even my puny 1,995 power and no crit chance could!

Oh, also….a few more pointers on that build….

  • Carry Signet of Renewal (I already described the other two utility skills (guard and signet of the wild))
  • For your bear, make it a juvenile Brown bear.
  • You should already have Healing Spring.
  • Replace your Runes of the Water with Runes of the Soldier. (It’ll remove some inportant things, like 15% boon duration, but its not that bad)
  • make sure you have Shout Mastery traited.
  • Have Spirit of Nature.
annnnd, BAM! Instant support in the form of a heck of alot of condition removal for your allies.

But, I don’t care about other players, since their own condition removal is apparently sooo good, and they are such gods at dodging and healing themselves, that they don’t need any support of any kind, unless its a Frost Spirit and a Spotter to make up for their lack of ability to even make a Zerker build properly!

It’s not even 2340 in 3 seconds, it’s 2340 in 18. The tooltip on Healing Spring is the total amount of health you will regen over the entire duration of the spring.

Cleric ranger is pretty much one of the dumbest things you can run in this game given that rangers have virtually nothing in the way of healing outside of their 6 skill. Cleric guardians/engineers/elementalists already get tons of hate and they actually have skills that heal for significant amounts in an area.

If I run Cleric. With all Buffs, and my sigil of life fully built up, I have:::

  • 1,917 healing power.
  • 1,232 Vitlality
  • 1,720 Toughness (2,784 armor)
  • 1,995 Power.
  • 45% Boon Duration (+33% more with Regenerations (with Nature’s Bounty))
  • I have 6 Runes of Water, which gives a bonus heal.
  • I have two superior Sigils of Renewal. One on my ascended longbow, one on my warhorn.
  • I can apply perma regen and swiftness with just Guard alone, and have perma protection on my pet.

1st, Everytime I use a Shout, I apply 17 seconds of regen, and every time I pop a healing Spring, I apply 4.5 seconds per pulse, or 27 seconds total. because of my high healing power, I heal for 369 health per second. Ingame, it says that the regen is only for just under 9000, but actual, its closer to 10,000, just with healing spring regen.
2nd, Signet of the Wild heals me for 177 health per second. It heals my pet for 604 health per second.
3rd, My Warhorn’s Blast heal heals for 1,703 health
4th, on weapon swap, I heal for 565.
5th if I take Natural healing. Heals pet for 125 every second, me for 133 every 3 seconds.

In the Span of 5 seconds, using healing spring, weapon swaps, and blast, I heal….

  • Myself for 1845(5 sec of regen) + 6837(Healing Spring) + 885(5 sec of sig of the wild) + 1703(water blast) + 565 (weapon swap) + 133(nat. healing) + 1648(rune of the water bonus heal) = 13,613
  • Allies for 1845(5 sec of regen) + 1703(water blast) + 565 (weapon swap) + 1648(rune of the water bonus heal) = 5,761
  • My Pet for 1845(5 sec of regen) + 6837(Healing Spring) + 3020(5 sec of sig of the wild) + 1703(water blast) + 565(weapon swap) + 625(nat. healing) + 1648(rune of the water bonus heal) = 16,243 This one is the important one! (for what I do atleast)

If you use Spirit of Nature, you can add 2400 to all of those.
If you bring a Moa, add 3,250 to all of those.
(Total if totally 100% specced for healing and support with spirit of nature, and Moa pet)
Yourself : 19,263
Allies : 11,411
Pets : 21,992

Okay,…all of that sounds kind of meaningless since most of those can be used by other classes, and when you add up the damage taken, its probably going to be for alot more than you heal (with the only exception being some pets). Also, the Moa’s healing skill is kind of unreliable since there doesn’t seem to be indication for when it uses the skill. Other than that, The reason why I run this build sometimes in Dungeons, is for these two reasons:::

(1) so your Bear becomes an effective tank when fighting bosses. With that permanent protection from “Guard”, and all the healing you can send its way, it is nearly impossible to get that thing killed. You can also use Drakes and Devourers for the same thing. Just keep in mind that if your goal is to control the boss’s movement for something (like in the new Dungeon path), make good use of F1 and F3. The boss will probaby follow your bear over other targets. If the boss is concentrates on your bear (or drake, or devourer), then the other 4 party members need only concentrate on DPS’ing the boss, and timing their dodges when the AOE’s come up.

(2)….Thats about it, unless you think that the idea of Tanking and pulling aggro for your pet instead of the other way around is just as ridiculous as it sounds!

Suggestion for Flying pets

Chrispy.5641

The problem with flying enemies is that they don’t actually fly. Even when those risen knights, fire elementals, and griffons are in the air and ‘flying’, they are still attached to the ground, so melee players can still attack them, (unless they are using an annoying evade skill).

also, I have a solution for more ranged pets, because,…well, You’re a Master of Nature, right? Well, there’s some other types of Flying creatures and pets that you should have access to, that not only fly, but can also have long range attacks, like,…why not bees, wasps, and hornets?

Random Idea # 47
Bee Hive (for other pets::: Wasp Nest, Hornet’s Nest

How to Aquire : You find it like you would any other pet, out in the game world. Wehn you walk up to a Bee hive, and the Charm button comes up, you don’t charm one bee, heck no! You Charm the Whole Freaking Hive!

So, you take the entire dang hive of Killer bees that you just charmed, and you put it on your back, whenever you bring that pet out. The Bees will attack on their own when they feel their master is threatened, or you can order them to attack whatever you want. The attacks are ranged, and has a 1200 range.

The hive on your back has its own healthbar, and gets its conditions independently of you. Enemies can target it seperately from you as well. When you dodge, it also dodges though, so you can always have your pet beehive avoid attacks. It shares CC effects with you though. So, if it gets launched, so do you. If you get knocked back, so does it.

Examples of Skills
Sting : Send out a Soldier Bee to Sting your foe. (1200 Range)(5 second bleed)
Crippling Swarm : Send out a Swarm of Bees to Distract your foe’s movements, crippling them. (5 second cripple. Deals damage every second for 5 seconds)(1200 range)(15 second recharge)
Distracting Swarm : Send out a Swarm of Bees to Interrupt your Foe’s Next attack. (1/2 second daze. Deals damage every second for 5 seconds)(1200 range)(20 second recharge)

Examples of Pet F2s
Aegis Swarm : Command your entire swarm of Honey bees to surround yourself and nearby allies, Blocking the next attack, and absorbing 50% of all damage you and allies take for 10 seconds.
Frenzied Swarm : Command your entire swarm of Killer Bees to attack target foe, and all foes in that area, inflicting Vulnerability and Weakness for 10 seconds. (Also deals damage every second for 10 seconds.)
Deadly Swarm : Command your entire swarm of Wasps to attack target foe, Inflicting Poison for 10 seconds. (Also deals damage every second for 10 seconds.)

….dang, that was random.

Yeah listen to all the Pros! LB damage needs a serious boost. In WvW I could hit something forever and still not die. Definatelly some burst damage boost is needed!

PS: Opener, able to do from 1500 range http://i.imgur.com/aoO6WxW.png
Not to mentioned that it was followed by god knows how big rapid shot (If the target was still alive)

Just to be fair, about Ranger’s not doing any burst damage, You can get 15,000 damage Mauls pretty easily (after using every utility skill you have, using your elite skill, and your pet’s F2) against a Light armor profession that has no additional survivability. Against heavier armor though, you will never see a number that high. Also, that absolutely pales in comparison to what Warriors and Thieves can do with even less effort.

And also, Your 6,428 damage Long Range shot is pathetic! I’ve seen numbers as high as 9000 before! You need to work on your build a little more!

GS is far too predictable to use in pvp. Also the LR shot was with exotic weapon, no pet buffs, no might, 2 stacks of blood lust, none borderlands bloodlust and on medium armour. Yes it can go higher if you just wanna show off, although 6.4k can happen very often. It’s pretty much like an opener, where you don’t have time to buff yourself.

Very Predictable, but, use Hunter’s Shot -> weapon switch -> Swoop -> Hilt Bash -> Maul. Also use Signet of the Hunt just before Maul. That combination almost never fails for me in pvp.

And, if 6.4k can happen so often, show us a little more of that screenshot than just one line with one damage number on it?

Its actually kind of freaking easy for a Ranger to hit 25 stacks of bleeding by themselves. I’m pretty sure that other classes woud have no problem doing it too. You don’t even need 2 or more people to do this either.

Archer's Signet

The passive is still no good. They will never make a passive utility that only works under specific situations.

What are our signets?
Run Speed +25%, this is always true.
Drop a condition every 10 seconds, this is always true.
Increase Toughness, this is always true.
Regenerate, this is always true.

Increase projectile speed, this is only true for two two-handers, one main hand, and three other specific powers of three other weapons. This is only true for two pet groups.

That’s too limited.

I thought about that at first too, but the only other solution I could think of, was go for the standard when it comes to signets….

Passive : Increases Precision for you and your pet. (which at level 80, is 180 extra Precision, if it follows what other Signets do.)

we could have all sorts of Signets that do that, or have something that affects something else for everything,…for example…..

Druid’s Signet
45 second cooldown
Passive : Improves Healing for you and your Pet. (180 at level 80)
Active : Turn all Conditions on your Pet into Boons.
Active (with Signet of the beastmaster) : Turn all Conditions on you and your Pet into Boons.

or

Trapper’s Signet
240 second cooldown
Passive : Improves Skill Cooldown for you and your pet. (10% faster Skill CD)
Active : Instantly recharge all skills on your pet (including F2)
Active (with signet of the Beastmaster) : Instantly recharge all skills (except Elite)

Chrispy.5641

My Version of Archer’s Signet, so it acts like other Ranger Signets, Affects your pet, and doesn’t have any sort of lame movement reduction or 5 second channel time.

Here is my idea for an Archer’s Signet:::

ARCHER’s SIGNET
60 second cooldown
Passive : Improves Projectile Speed for you and your Pet. (50% more speed!)
Active : Your Pets Next Attack becomes a “Power Attack”, that, if sucessful, deals 3x more damage.
Active(with Signet of the Beastmaster) : Your Next attack becomes a Power Attack, that, if sucessful, deals up to 3x more damage. The type of power attack depends on the weapon.

  • This would benefit any projectile that you shoot/throw. It would also greatly benefit Devourers and Spiders, as well as any pet attack that uses projectiles, such as the River Drake’s Lightning breath F2.
  • No change to movement speed, projectile speed, or weapon range. Also, activating a signet also shows the graphic, like other signets, allowing players time to get away, block, etc, so you are going to have to outsmart the player, like any other skill in the game.
  • This skill does remove all Range, Flanking, and Targeting restrictions for the Longbow, Shortbow, and Axe. (see below)
  • Signet affects all of a Ranger’s 2h and mainhand weapons. (longbow, shortbow, axe, sword, greatsword, spear, and harpoon gun)
  • 60 second recharge time is the minimum, since Signet of the hunt has a 30 second recharge time, and does a tiny, 50% extra damage.

Power Attack (pet)
Double Casting Time. 3x damage.

  • This replaces your pet’s regular auto attack skill, so that even if its doing its own thing (like its other skills, some of which deal no damage), your pet will still be able to use this attack to do damage. After using it, this skill disapears and your pet’s regular autoattack skill comes back.
(Example : A wolf would have to take 1/2 second to attack instead of 1/4, but deals 3x damage. A Jaguar would take 1 second to attack instead of 1/2 second, but deals 3x damage. This would greatly affect your pet’s ability to hit moving targets, which is why CC, chill, and cripple would be very important. It would also, of course, stack with other signets and effects)

Examples of power attacks for different weapons:::
Power Shot (You)(Longbow)
Fire an Arrow that deals more damage the longer you aim.
1/4 second : (0.3 coefficient)(no range restriction)
3/4 second : (0.9 coefficient)(regular longbow attack, no range restriction)
1.5 second : (2.7 coefficient)(3x damage)(no range restriction)

  • Press 1 to aim, press 1 again to fire. Fires automatically after 2 seconds. Max damage stops at 1.5 seconds though. The Longbow has this only. Other weapons do not have this, because a 1 second cast time is kind of doable. 2 seconds isn’t.
  • in comparison, the Warrior’s kill shot has a channel time of 1.75 seconds, and has a coefficient of 3.25, making the Ranger power shot still deal less damage, but Rangers are more about movement than burst, which is why you can still move around while using this attack.

Power Shot(You)(Shortbow)
Fire an Arrow that deals three times as much damage.
1 second (1.2 coefficient)
3 Stacks of Bleeding (no Flanking restriction)

Power Attack(You)(Sword)
Attack your foe, dealing three times as much damage.
1 second (1.8 coefficient)
(This skill is also the start of the attack chain, so after using this, it goes straight to Kick, instead of starting over)

Power Throw(You)(Axe)
Throw an Axe that Bounces between multiple foes. If there aren’t multiple foes, this attack hits your target multiple times.
1/2 second (1.5 coefficient)
3 targets, or same target 3 times.

Tequatl and disgusting, lingering elitism

I’m in TTS, when I reach the overflow, I like to represent my other guild so I can keep talking to them. I can say that I have gotten whispers from people in TTS while not representing, some of them ask if I’m in TTS, and some of them were nasty, vitriolic, and generally, comments you don’t want to say to other people for any reason….That being said, I have never been told to leave an overflow just because I was not repping at the time, or looked down on because I invited some friends from my actual guild over to paticipate in the Tequatl fight.

Oh, and OP, TTS isn’t going away any time soon, even if all the unorganized players find out how to kill him without a highly organized Zerg. If and when they update the Shatterer and Jormag fights, TTS will still be around, and thats the reason why I haven’t left yet.

Also, I want to say that Calling out non-guild people like PDG was talking about, only because you are on teamspeak and they aren’t, is still not right, and trying to justify that action because you are on teamspeak, so you are automatically better, and they aren’t, is kind of lame. Its the same thing with dungeons when players try to dictate what other player’s builds should be, and unless they act respectful about it, I look down on that without exception.

Its a game. If you can’t have fun with someone, even the elitist players who try to be an armchair general for the whole rest of the group, and even the unexperienced player that doesn’t know too much about the game yet,…chances are that your not going to have fun with anyone.

Where is the Regeneration in this calculation?

Guardians have shields/blocks.
And Mesmers/Necro’s have phantasms/minions.
engies have turrets that provide heal and such other things.
Thieves have stealth

the only person that your calculation directly applies to is a warrior.
as they have to rely on their damage and whatever boons they can get.

Evades! Don’t forget Evades! Rangers are filled with those! As well as having pets and spirits. They also have access to a great blocking skill when timed right. And they can go into Stealth!….And all I have to say to that is….so? That makes the fact that Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power, and Condition Damage are less effective than Power, any less of something that should be discussed,…because?

If Tripling Power Triples your Damage, then….

  • Tripling Toughness should Triple your Armor.
  • Tripling Vitality should Triple your Max. Health.
  • Tripling Healing Power should Triple your heals.

So basically what you are saying is that you’d love to see 45k health guardians with 2000 armor and 500+ heals ?
I’d run WvW with a group of guardians. we’d never die.
i’d run PvP with a group of guardians. we’d never die.
I’d run every dungeon with guardians only. we’d never die.

And besides that. EVERYONE would run the same armor.
screw power precision crit on a thief or a ranger.
i’ll go power toughness vitality on every build.
Go full shadows and just chip your health away.

The problem does not lay in the fact that stats don’t scale.
The problem lies in the fact that certain stats don’t scale higher towards classes that use them.
For example a guardian should have healingpower scale more and crit lower.
thiefs should have healingpower lower and crit higher.
Etcetera Etcetera.

Actually, since a Guardian’s Base health (+916 Vitality) is 10,805, if they got up to 3,000 Vitality (which is hard to do), and if Vitality scales Health in the same way Power Scales damage (triple the power, triple the damage), then, the Guardian’s health would only triple. In other words, it would be about 32,415, not 45K. Thief and Elementalist would be about the same. And, just so you know, its already possible to get near 30,000 hp with a Guardian with extremely high vitality.

The Problem with Vitality is that it scales the same with all professions, which is, +10 health per point. A Guardian with 20,000 extra health is pretty awesome, and it increases his health by almost 200%, but, a Warrior with 20,000 extra health is not as awesome because his max. health increased by only about 110%. Therefore, it is not as useful for a Warrior to invest into Vitality as it would be for a Guardian or Thief.

So, yes, I am saying that a Warrior who fuly invests in Vitality should see a 200% increase in their health just as a Guardian or Thief would, and a Warrior and Necromancer should both have 55,116 health if they increase their Vitality as far as it will go.

I see no problem with Max. Health going up 200%, if your power can go up 200%, because it would make Vitality a Direct, and viable counter to an Increase in Power.

Also, 2000 armor is kind of pathetic. That’s like, Base Heavy Armor + 916 Toughness, and then you just subtracted 127 of that away. Base Armor with no added toughness for a Guardian would be 2127 (if the wiki is correct).

Now lets do some math to show the disparity between Power and Toughness…. I am going to make Toughness and Defense each equal 1000 for easy math, which equals 2000 armor total.

(Coefficient) x (Power) x (Weapon Power) / (Total Armor [Toughness + Armor])
(1) – 1.0 × 1000 × 1000 / 2000 = 500 damage

(2) – Lets double the power to 2000!
1.0 × 2000 × 1000 / 2000 = 1000 damage

(3) – Lets Triple the power to 3000!
1.0 × 3000 × 1000 / 2000 = 1500 damage!!!

Now, lets double Toughness to 2000, making total Armor stand at 3000…
(1) – 1.0 × 1000 × 1000 / 3000 = 333 damage

(2) – Lets double the power to 2000!
1.0 × 2000 × 1000 / 3000 = 666 damage

(3) – Lets Triple the power to 3000!
1.0 × 3000 × 1000 / 3000 = 1000 damage

Now, lets make Toughness equal 3000, making total Armor stand at 4000…
(1) – 1.0 × 1000 × 1000 / 4000 = 250 damage

(2) – Lets double the power to 2000!
1.0 × 2000 × 1000 / 4000 = 500 damage

(3) – Lets Triple the power to 3000!
1.0 × 3000 × 1000 / 4000 = 750 damage

Well, thats awesome! Having 2000 toughness reduces the damage you take by 33% from what it was, and 3000 toughness reduces the damage you take by 50% from what it was. COOL!….well, Lets take the three that are equal and show you what’s wrong.

Power and Toughness both equal 1000
(1) – 1.0 × 1000 × 1000 / 2000 = 500 damage

Power and Toughness both equal 2000
(2) – 1.0 × 2000 × 1000 / 3000 = 666 damage

Power and Toughness both equal 3000
(3) – 1.0 × 3000 × 1000 / 4000 = 750 damage+

Math don’t lie. 1 Point of Power does not equal 1 Point of Toughness. If power and Toughness were equal at 2000, then Toughness would only be 75% as effective as Power, and at 3000 power and toughness, Toughness is only 66% as effective. It continues down that path too. If Toughness = Power, then all three of those damage numbers would be equal.

I also got the math for healing power if you really want me to show you that.

Also, I’m not saying the game is broken or anything. I’m just saying that the game encourages DPS only classes because other Builds on a 1 for 1 point basis, are not as effective as just going straight into power, every time.

I don`t think nerfing crit damage is going to solve anything. They should increase the benefits of the other stats so they feel more inline and scale better. Then they would be more appealing to use and people would be a little more diverse in gear selection.

THIS!!!

as it stands in the game right now….

  • Tripling your Power Stat Will Triple your damage dealt.
  • Tripling your Toughness Stat Will Not Triple your Armor value.
  • Tripling your Vitality Will Not Triple your Max Health.
  • Tripling your Healing Power (adding 2000 healing power is about equal to adding 2000 power, even though healing power starts at 0) Will Triple Regeneration, but Will Not* Triple most of your Heals. (it averages to about 15% every 1000 healing power for most heals)
  • Tripling your Condition Damage (same as Healing Power…) Will Triple your Condition Damage, but, if there is One more Condition Build in the Party, it will CUT your ability to deal Condition Damage in Half, meaning that half of your stat investment is WASTED

If Tripling Power Triples your Damage, then….

  • Tripling Toughness should Triple your Armor.
  • Tripling Vitality should Triple your Max. Health.
  • Tripling Healing Power should Triple your heals.

…But Its not. In Anet’s Mission to rid the world of the Holy Trinity of MMO’s (DPS, Tank, Heal), they actually made every stat in the game, not quite useless per say, but definitely not as effective as Power on a 1 for 1 scale.

Instead, we must live our lives under the Tyranny of the most hated of the trinity, DPS. DPS goes by many names, some of the most common being Berzerker and Glass Cannon. We must either worship him, and strive to be like him, or we are not effective in a world where there is no god but DPS. DPS is King, and thus, we are not. We Shall Adapt or curse ourselves to ashes…In the name of the Father (DPS), the Son(DPS), and the Holy Spirit(…also DPS),…Amen…

Seriously though, I did the math, and Power is the single most effective stat in the game. Critical damage is the second most, and besides Precision which only determines critical chance, all other stats fall way behind. Ill post the math if anyone wants me to.

Not until that horse’s god decides to wipe us all out for our transgressions(mostly mine!) against all horsey kind!

I want it to be viable. If you consider having any CC, strong skill, or AoE viable is a copy of Warrior, then we won’t get to any discussion. Our traits (Remorseless, MoC) are already there, waiting for any skill that can make them more viable.
And, btw. Our best PvE build, melee, is already like Warrior with a pet. I want to be ranged. As profession descreption

Exactly like the Warrior!….except the evades on both our melee weapons that we can fire off much faster than other professions who have evade skills (that most people conviently forget when they complain about either weapon because they don’t know how to time them properly), and the two control effects on the greatsword that the Warrior greatsword doesn’t have,…and there’s probably other things that seperate the Ranger from the Warrior too, other than the damage gap, which can be made up by effectively using a pet.

Well, if you split up the staff, because no one in that link can decide between Robinhood style Quarterstaff, and a more magical Druid staff, then I think that the Rifle beats it, just barely.

@Chrispy – Longbow doesn’t equal my vision of Rifle. But we need some serious power ranged option, usable in game. There’s ninche for ranged weapon with short-cd AoE shot, for CC weapon in general and for serious one-hit ranged attack which may make 25 minor trait for MM and Remorseless to get any consideration. Enough to make new weapon of it.

So, you want a Warrior with a pet?…still not following.

So Rym…, you want everything the Longbow already does, but you want to change the range slightly, keep the CC and AoE, make Rapid Fire do all it’s damage at once at the end of the cast time instead through the cast time, then slap a Rifle sticker on it, and call it a new weapon?

And its funny seeing that there are alot of people requesting Hammer, since they are basically requesting a Ranger weapon that does pretty much the same thing the Warrior Hammer does already, if they are still thinking in GW1 terms (which I’m sure they are).

Bearbow this, Bearbow that. I want you to give me three reasons why it is a useless combination, otherwise, keep your peace.

Bears are speficially for tanking and absorbing damage. If you want an example, I used it in the new Dungeon path to keep the Clockheart busy while I went to go revive 2 warriors, 1 guardian, and 1 thief who all thought that survivability is for chumps and all got 1 shot by all of its attacks, cursing literally every 3 seconds wondering why I was still alive and near full health. Instead of wiping and having to restart the boss, we were able to continue the fight, three times. And these people were apparently ‘experienced’ dungeon runners, when everything pointed to the opposite. They were whining and complaining about my decision to bring the bear, however it was the freaking bear that ensured we made it through the dungeon to the end.

I was using a longbow most of the time, and my other weapons were sword/axe. I had full Cleric gear and I am always built for survivability (which is why I wasn’t 1 shot by any of the bosses in that dungeon). During that whole fight, I was using point blank shot to push the Clockheart closer to the holo, and using path of scars to pull the holo closer to the boss. The bear was also pulling aggro most of the time, so I used him to pull the boss wherever I wanted to pull him. It made the fight alot easier than it would have been if I took a squishy bird or cat along, and while I wasn’t doing any amazing damage, neither were the other 4 players who were dead for 50% of the fight.

If Gear stats don’t affect pets, then why is Boon Duration affecting the length of the Boon (as far as the pets applying it to themselves)? Also if Gear Stats aren’t supposed to affect pets, why does the skill itself say and show its affected by the boon duration (as is other F2’s show they are affected by condition duartion)? Still a bug.

You guys are thinking about Mounts in Totally the wrong way,

Example:::
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Junundu

You would take control of those Wurms for only specific parts of the game because they were Required in order to continue game progress.

If you really want some sort of Cosmetic Mount, wait for more of them to come through the gem store. Two of them have been released already.

So, I’ve been messing around with Boon Duration, and I noticed some wierd things. The Jungle Stalker, Fern Hound, and Blue Moa all have F2’s that are supposed to affect everyone with Might, Regeneration, and Protection.

The Problem is…, the Jungle Stalker and Fern Hound, with 90% boon duration, are supposed to apply 5 stacks of Might and Regeneration for 19 seconds. After firing off the F2, they apply it for the regular 10 seconds to me and everyone else, but, it lasts for 19 seconds on only themselves.

The Blue Moas should be applying a 7 1/2 second Protection, but only gives everyone 4 seconds, but gives itself 7 1/2 seconds.

…Add that to the list of Pet Bugs I guess.

I didn’t even know until I read this post that you could get boon duration that high. after reading this, now I have to go spend some gold and experiment with it.

Why we need an expansion.

Well, if you want some baseless speculation, either as an Expansion, or more Living Story…

I was watching a Gw2 advertisment on a website, and I noticed that after all the meaningless stuff, the Ad then showed a map, that then zoomed out, then panned east. The first part of the map matched up with the map in the game almost perfectly. It was of Claw Island, Bloodtide Coast, and parts of Sparkfly Fen.

The East part goes way across Tyria to the east coast of the continent. While all those X marks seem pretty pointless, it was interesting to see them go east instead of stay in a familar part of Tyria.

I am 99.99% sure that it means absolutely nothing, but I put up a picture so everyone can see it and draw their own conclusions. If it does mean something, then Freaking Awesome! I can finally move on to other areas of the game that I haven’t run through a dozen times. If it is meaningless, well, whatever then…

Who says elder dragons have to be evil?

Will we, the people of lions arch ever be able to have an alliance with a dragon, Mabey as a supreme gatekeeper or something, or are they instinctively definetly set to kill everything?

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Glint

It could happen again. I’m not sure about elder dragons though: it’s highly unlikely. They could possibly be played against eachother when more than one comes into play at the same time but I am pretty certain that they wouldn’t agree to an alliance (or be coaxed into one).

I gotta agree with this guy. We probably won’t ever be working with the Elder Dragons themselves. Dragon Champions is possibly (atleast I hope its possible!) Also :::

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Kuunavang

There’s another dragon that we worked with in Gw1, and its not stated anywhere, but I am assuming that she’s a champion of the Deep Sea Dragon, just, you know, not ‘evil’ like how Glint wasn’t ‘evil’ either. And since it was never mentioned anywhere that she was killed…..(or that she was ever in the service of an Elder Dragon anyways, or that she was saved by the Forgotten in the same way Glint was, and other unanswered questions)…..

Edit :: (Good Lord Anet, Atleast Announce a Cantha/Elona Expansion. It could come out 5 years from now, atleast we would know that you haven’t forgotten about those places)

another way to view the concept of evil :::

I wonder if anyone would consider me evil because a few months ago I took a can of Raid, and commited genocide on a nest of yellow jackets sitting above my porch, two ant colonies in the cracks of my patio, and I had enough left over to get rid of a little paper wasp nest sitting next to my door. A few escaped and I also managed to stomp on a few when they fell to the concrete patio, to ease their suffering. Call it sadistic if you want, but those things were pests, and had to die!

Hymenopterans probably think I am the most evil thing on the face of the earth right now, if they had intelligence. Good thing they don’t. (they would probably be worshipping me as some kind of twisted God, or plotting to take me down!)

I would have to say that the comparison between Dragons and the Major Races of Tyria is kind of the same way. They are pests, and whether good, evil, force of nature or not, the Dragons know that the major races need to be dealt with, and by dealt with, I mean, utterly destroyed.
