And the server overall. Part of the reason some of us choose to play for BG instead of another T1 competitor is because we assume people are better sports/more civil here. As soon as that aspect is shattered, it instantly weakens our image as a server.

As much as I’d like to see the Mursaat return, I agree with Konig. If they came back now it’d be shallow and overall disappointing. Maybe even super temporary. If they’re going to bring them back, they need to be a major plot device, preferably as a serious threat both in the lore and in-game. They weren’t exactly the easiest thing to deal with in GW1, and I would hope they’d be just as brutal in GW2.

We need them back, but not in the state they’d give them to us right now.

Runes of the traveler = useful in WvW

in Guardian

Christos de Soufre.3802

I roam in a Knight’s/Cleric’s mix with GS and Sword/Focus with Eagle runes. The only boon dura I get is from the Virtues tree, which means no permanent Swiftness. I get around the map by hard swapping Staff and GS for leaps and intermittent Swiftness. I engage with S/F and GS. My only “combat mobility” tools are a leap, a teleport, and 13s of Swiftness every 48s. All I do is solo roam and run havoc groups of 10-15 on guild nights. I’ve never felt that I was particularly “slow.” If a player is having problems with mobility, they’re either running Meditations (which you shouldn’t expect great mobility from anyway — it’s a far better style in sPvP than in WvW; why are you running medis in WvW anyway?) or they’re giving themselves their problems by running anything except at least one of GS, Sword, or Staff. And that’s fine, but even Hammer and Scepter at least have immobs and CC on them to help. Shouts get swiftness, Medis get teleports, Scepter, and Torch (generally).

25% movement speed won’t save you from chilled, immob, or cripple, and you give up too much potential damage or sustain from other, more practical runes. You think you’re helping yourself by giving up Soldier runes or Eagle runes (or double boon duration sets, even) for 25% movement speed and 15% boon duration? We shouldn’t have to get our mobility from runes, and it isn’t even that bad in combat to begin with. Is it moving around the map that annoys people?

There are better ways.

People put themselves into their mobility ruts by refusing to compromise on any part of their build to add some to it, and then they complain that every build doesn’t have perma Swiftness or something similar.. The Six forbid someone might need to run Staff on a shout build. As far as medis go, it’s always been my opinion that you should expect poor mobility when you try to play a build that relies on teleports for mobility and its ranged options to keep damage on targets in an arena as large as WvW. Medis are practically meant for s/tPvP, where the arenas are much smaller.

As a profession, our mobility is sub par, especially compared to many others. It could be worse though. We could be Necros. And we have a ridiculous amount of defensive capability (even on glassier builds) to make up for it. Trade-offs.

TL;DR, the only place a Guardian should be having mobility issues is in combat, since we have a lot of options for moving across maps OOC. If you’re having enough trouble with certain builds and professions killing you “because of your run speed” that you need to consider running these runes instead of more practical sets that offer more to your overall build, then that +25% base speed isn’t going to be enough to stop you from continuing to be killed by those builds and professions.

Just my opinion, though.

I don’t feel obligated to agree with/sympathize with/respect/agree with in any way MERC’s decision to move to JQ. Any other server (minus SoR) would have been fine. Considering the transfers that have been pouring into the tier though (and the transfers off that BG has been having), it’s little more than a reach for the easy way through leagues. It’s bandwagoning plain and simple. It’s betrayal.

As much as I used to respect Tarkus and the rest, and appreciate the work they did for us, this pretty much nullifies it all. You should have moved to T2 like RISE if you wanted a “challenge.” A few more moves like this off of BG/SoR and/or to JQ and it becomes HoD v3.0, the old JQ being v2.0. So I hope the boredom is worth the money.

Kudos to those who stayed.

The way I understood the mail mentioning the “current invasion” was that, despite Zhaitan being defeated, there were still hordes of Risen roaming about. The invasion couldn’t just end right after Zhaitan and be called a success. As far as we know it’s still on-going for the sake of thoroughness.

But again, that’s just how I’ve been understanding it.

I have to admit I’m disappointed in you BG. You used TS to coordinate the teq fight. All the other servers are pugging it like how it was ment to be played. BG may have been the first to beat him, but having the coordination over TS is an unfair advantage over other servers who can’t get so many people in a voice chat. Beat the event with pugs like how all the other servers are playing it and how it was designed to be played and then I’d consider it the actual world first.

What is considered high healing power?

in Guardian

Posted by: Christos de Soufre.3802

Christos de Soufre.3802

You can achieve around 1,000 with Cleric’s trinkets and weapons and 20-30 points in Honor. That leaves 40-50 points to trait into a higher damage build (AH or MF) and room to run Knight’s or similar main-set with DPS-based runes such as Scholar or Eagle. This also ignores sigils, oils/stones and food. That said, you can get your HP pretty high without your damage being “ignorable.” People just get too used to spamming red splashes when that’s the first way they ever built their character. They feel “weaker.”

@OP: Either way, if you’re focused on PvE you probably won’t need Healing Power anyway (unless that’s just how you want to play). Building a character for WvW is a different thing entirely, and sPvP is chalk-full of cookie cutter builds to play with anyway.

+1

I’ve been discussing this with my guild a little bit recently. I was a huge fan of the story of GW1 from start to finish. The complete lack of any particularly dark story elements (or at least the implementation of them) in this game is really upsetting to me. Tyria is a wreck and it’s beset on all sides by war and disaster, and yet it feels like I’m playing in a child’s pop-up book. SAB is fun, but it pretty much personifies this complaint.

Scarlet gives me a little hope, despite how little information we’ve been given on her so far. She clearly has no problem with out-right slaughtering civilians and getting away with it though, and that’s a good start. I hope she’ll be around long enough to do something that really matters and will negatively impact the world of Tyria (not the story or the game itself, but Tyria). Like, I don’t know, succeed in totaling one of the major cities? Maybe she murders Rox. Maybe she murders Countess Anise. I’d rather see her do something truly shocking though, like nuke Ebonhawke.

She claims to have seen/understand the meaning of life, the universe. Maybe she retrieves the Anti-Life Equation and places the world of Tyria under her control. /cough

All I know is that this game needs real conflict/tragedy/disaster that can’t be fixed with a resurrection spell (I’m aware that resurrection isn’t possible anymore as far as we know) or by spamming #2. It needs to be cold and it needs to have a lasting effect.

Hurt us, ANet. We’re ready. :l

Watch for him to lift his hammer up to his side. That is the wind up for either the whirling attack or his teleport. Either way, dodge backward as soon as you see it. You’ll be fine. If you can’t dodge, you should still have time to turn slightly and strafe away. As a last resort, you can pop a block or invulnerability to avoid the brunt of the damage.

Worst case scenario, just use ranged for the fight. Melee takes more practice and… well, skill to accomplish in some fights without dying.

in Guardian

Posted by: Christos de Soufre.3802

Christos de Soufre.3802

I agree with a lot of the points he made about the condition meta, but most of it seemed like common knowledge. I think adding the tag “best” will deter a lot of players from watching/caring about these interviews though; regardless of how much s/tPvP we do or how skilled or unskilled we consider ourselves compared to someone who happens to be on a team with 4 other solid players, some of us are going to feel depreciated by terms like that. Not to say he isn’t good, just that being the “best” is a group effort. It’s hard to say another Guardian of similar skill couldn’t fill his spot just as well.

Respect to the player for being highly ranked, less respect to the interviewer for slapping a subjective term onto the interview and putting it in our faces like we’re all lesser players. My point is that people probably aren’t upset about him being really good. They’re upset about a third party making the rest of us “worse” players when ranks are based on team effort/coordination and not on single player skill.

I hope that the interviewer will consider this when posting future videos. It will save him some bad press/dislikes/possible YouTube troll comments.

Can’t exactly put an empirical value on “enough” damage for a single build in WvW because of how many possible variations there are of any conceivable situation — number of allies, number of opponents, your team builds, their team builds, player skill, are any of them up-leveled?, how much practice you’ve had with the build, etc.

That said, the point is support and group sustain when playing with others anyway. If it were meant to be a DPS/front-lining build it would matter more whether it “did enough.”

+25% Movement Speed

in Guardian

Posted by: Christos de Soufre.3802

Christos de Soufre.3802

People don’t rely enough on their weapons for mobility. Too much worrying about perma-swiftness and whatnot. I’m pretty sure that I won’t be able to find a use for these new runes. They’ll mostly be for people that can’t get used to taking advantage of leaps/teleports/weapon swapping to staff for their mobility.

As far as mid-combat goes, sPvP arenas are small and your ability to chase shouldn’t need more than mobile weapons to supplement it. Triple or double med is pretty popular there anyway, which often entails at least JI being on the bar. WvW-wise, SY and/or JI in conjunction with any combination of staff, GS, or sword should be sufficient.

The cost is just too high (in my opinion) to settle for such random stat distribution. The only thing these runes are good for are for running away or moving a little faster when you don’t want to run staff for getting around the map. There are better ways to get around being kited. Different weapon choices for one, or subbing in either SY or JI or something (I’ve never run Retreat on my bar for a fight and I still have superb combat mobility).

Random stats + 25% movement isn’t a fix, it’s a crutch. One that you give up either a lot of sustain or a lot of damage potential for. That said, I’m sure there are people who are willing to give up as much as they will for that crutch. Our mobility shouldn’t have to come from runes though. It should come from either traits, utilities, or weapon skills.

Plus, 25% movement speed isn’t going to save you from cripple, chill, or immobilize.
