Ok, just finished it. Not sure of your age but something hit me while listening to your video oddly enough towards the end. If you are still in college or considering it, or starting, or maybe going back
Consider taking a aptitude test, in fact, take a couple. Point being if you like to talk, discuss, and teach, maybe being a teacher is right for you? I honestly mean that in a good way because I think teen(s) could use someone who actually cares and can deliver.
[snip]
I think you pretty much covered everything. I know you mentioned food but not about the sharpening stone / maint. oil? If there are food options outside mango pie that could be cool to talk about or blub it in your text box?
I’m actually in college now and have, in fact, considered going for a career in teaching. I have a few other interests which I’m currently exploring, though.
I went ahead and put a bit about food and utility choices in the description of the video, as per your suggestion.
Great vid!
Shave Yourselves! Nice recover =).
Thanks, I tried. :P
I’m reactivating it as I post this. No worrehs.
Edit: Video is back up.

Hah, you couldn’t pay me enough to try to do her with 5 gambits.
The only time I intentionally did multiple crystals was on the third vortex. Right after I threw my second crystal, I would use bind and hit either 2 or 3 visions (usually 2, since the third is still obstructed at that point). I’d then run to the next vortex, pop Stand Your Ground so that the new rift wouldn’t pull me, and then pull the visions. I also use Shield of Wrath to protect myself from Liadri while I throw the second crystal.
If I got any other multi-spawns, it was just because the stars happened to align sometime during P2. Either way, it’s still perfectly possible to do it one at a time and still finish.
P.S. I’m posting my Liadri mini-guide for Guardians on my channel tomorrow morning. :> Will include a regular kill and an 8-orb discussion.

Nope. If it had changed we’d probably have noticed a lot earlier.
It scales with Healing Power, so if you’ve removed some from your gear, that’d do it. Absolute Resolution also increases it by 25%, so traiting away from that if you had it before will also produce that effect.
I usually just panic and run away.
No, but constant pressure is pretty much the trick to downing Mesmers. Find the real one early and do your best to stay on him/her as much as possible. Force them to play defense first and you’re pretty much guaranteed a win as long as you play smart.
Thieves are tricky, since most of them are S/D now. I usually just play triple meditation in structured PvP these days in order to boon starve them (and not give Necros stuff to corrupt). That usually makes it a lot easier. In WvW though… I feel like my build is just capable of outlasting them as long as you can get used to blocking/blinding/dodging their larcenous strike and their burst. Between that they’re pretty much garbage.
It’s too bad they have the greatest ability to disengage currently, on top of all of their boon hate stealing and burst.

Most of my MMO background is hardcore raiding/raid leading in WoW, so I find some amusement in static, scripted gameplay. So long as it’s reasonably challenging.
Liadri is actually pretty fun, Amins.
Anyway, I see all of these posts about the pirates… I don’t really get it. What is it that people are having trouble with? I’m genuinely interested in knowing. Like Amins said, from first to last, it’s pretty simple and can be done with pretty much any gear. It’s just knowing the mechanics and being able to dodge, block, etc.
Have done 8-orb twice now with the setup from my original post here. 15 kills thus far, including 2 with burning and the 2 8-orbs. Currently working on 10-orb because lol.
Either a time limit OR a one-shot mechanic or two should be a requirement for any reasonably challenging fight. Maybe not both, but at least one. Or at least a few extremely high-damage abilities. Otherwise, you could just go full-on bunker and pretty much cheese the fight that way. There always has to be some kind of mechanic to force tactical play.
Anyway, yeah. Great fight. Preferred Lupi solo, but good.
I pretty much throw away every ticket I get now. I wish they wouldn’t drop out in the world, since I’m not going to go to that arena while I’m gathering in Orr. I’m not going back. That boss is one of the worst designed fights in this entire game.
I thought it was pretty well done. All you have to do is carry condition removal and learn the patterns of P1, then run in a wide circle in P2.
I do sort of wish that the definition of difficulty in this game wasn’t “one-shot mechanics” though. I mean, maybe every once and a while, but all the time?
First kill within 5 attempts. 7 kills since then, including 1 with the burning gambit. Have not attempted 8-orbs yet, but will soon.
Guardian, 0/25/10/30/5
Knight’s armor, Zerker weapons, Zerker/Soldier trinket mix
Sword/Focus + Greatsword
Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew & Superior Sharpening Stone
Heal: Shelter
Utilities: Hold the Line, Save Yourselves, Stand Your Ground
Elite: Renewed Focus
Did this on my first attempt without paying a lot of attention to it. I was using Knight’s armor and Zerker weapons with a mix of Zerker and Soldier’s trinkets. I used Sword/Focus and Greatsword, both with Sigils of Energy on them. The dodges made it easy to move to the meat quickly before the dog could (dodges move at normal run speed, even in combat). I believe I may have also had my Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew active from my most recent Liadri fight, but I could be wrong.
Start moving as soon as you see the norn turn to throw the meat and you’ll always get there first. Have stun breaks, blocks, or stability to stop the norn from CCing you while you run for the food. Focus the dog first, of course.

The title can be “Alone in the Darkness.”
Yep. Went there.
Thank you for this.
Was still trying to figure out how I’d go about doing this achievement.
The canon answer is just “faith.” That’s what they said when the profession was released. What that faith is placed in doesn’t necessarily matter.
That said, TECHNICALLY the majority of (if not all) magic used by the mortals of Tyria originates from the bloodstones. A lot of our magic would come from the Restoration stone. Don’t quote me on this though. Someone will split hairs with details.

They took it away when HTL did this for us. I’m sure they’ll be evil and take it away now, despite how nice it’d be to have in the currently quite unforgiving condition-heavy PvP meta. :< Likely a bug, I’m afraid.
Grats, eekzie. I don’t know if I have the willpower to put up with the likely-high amount of frustration that comes with doing that achievement.
I did just finish my 7th kill though, and this one included the burning gambit. :> Still using the same setup from my first post.
I expected this fight to take hours and tear my soul apart from how difficult people make it sound. Took me 5 or 6 attempts running my usual S/F and GS. Used a wonky trait distribution of 0/25/10/30/5 though.
I pretty much went in knowing that I can never let myself get hit anyway, so I focused my traits on burst damage and condition removal while trying to keep just enough sustain in for her phase 2 attacks. I used Knight’s gear with Eagle runes, Zerker weapons with Energy sigils, and a mix of Zerker and Soldier’s jewelry (I only have Soldier’s rings and backpiece). As many people have suggested, I used Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew for extra dodges.
It felt a little weird not having a ranged weapon at first, but once I had phase 1 down, it was a little more fun than just kiting in a circle and wanding til she died. The GS is also great for pulling the visions into the pools and forcing her into a better position to spend some time DPSing in P2. Oddly enough I didn’t feel a need for more Swiftness than what SY gave me.
I’d really like to see Focused Mind removed and all meditations to be made instant baseline. Half of them are already instant and the ones that aren’t have sub-1s cast times anyway. That said, I can’t actually think of a way to justify using FM over something else.
I’m still struggling with the pirate crew
Try Healway (mix in soldier’s, zerker, or knight’s somewhere) and just leave the gunner up for last. I pretty much destroyed them.
There are more fights after Ms. Impossible? I haven’t actually tried her yet myself, but I hear she’s exceptionally difficult.
Great play as usual! Subbed and liked.
Constructive crit~ Check the color and contrast on your output before upload
Would like to see some mix gameplay, do you have a hammer war or other cc you can run with? You would destroy.
Thank you, and oh yes, haha. By the time I had started rendering and previewing each version outside of the editor, I was working with so many pre-comps that I would have had to start all over from the raw clips to tone it down. Odds are I’ll not be using any curves adjusters in the future, but I’ll likely continue searching for a CC filter that I enjoy.
good stuff!

so is this going to be your new channel?
Yessir. No more videos will be posted on the old channel. I might put a “hey, go over here to THIS channel” thing up, but that’ll be about it.
Updated with a new video 8/20/2013
Aaand we’re back. High frequency of new content not guaranteed, but I’m certainly back to the drawing board at least. :> This time I’m on a new channel which should allow me to more easily expand to different kinds of content and other games that I’ve been dying to really get into. This space will contain any and all Guardian content that I put out, including montages, guides, demonstrations, whatever! So, without further ado…
Build Videos
1. The Healway Guardian
What is there to say? This is my bread and butter build and I’m here to help people learn to play it more efficiently. :> Don’t mind how nervous I sound.
Montages (WvW, PvP)
1. “Make a Move”
My first video in 5 months and my first experiment with After Effects. More of a test video than anything. Not viewable in Germany (sorry, guys).
PvE Videos
1. Putting Down Liadri
Here’s a video explaining how I defeated Liadri. It offers some helpful advice for people looking to either get their first kill or pick up their 8-orb achievement.
2. Lighting Up the Darkness
This video includes both my first and my second (much cleaner) 8-Orb Liadri kills.
WvW Videos
1. Tagteam Tuesday
I teamed up with an Elementalist bud (my guild leader) to knock JQ down a peg.
Posts are welcome here, but don’t forget to support the videos and channel directly with comments/ratings/favorites and such!

That’s a little extreme. What do you take issue with?
1) Skill Lag. There is ~zero~ reason for this in today’s environment.
2) Preaching a player vs player focused game: Clearly it is not as they just hired 4x’s thier current “Living World” (PVE) development team while WvW / PvP only see updates every 2-3 months (where pve see’s full content + updates every month, sometimes twice).
3) Uselessness of traits, among ALL classes, as “fillers” to make the appearance of diversity among builds…. where we all know this is not the case.
4) Inability to bring the same content into WvW: Legendaries, titles, progress…. etc. Contrary to belief, there has to be some kind of non-useless carrot.
5) Uselessness of the items we recieve in WvW… badges… really? do I REALLY need 4,000 badges sitting in my bank?
6) Certain classes are so overly broken… luckily the meta doesn’t even grasp it yet, because once they do, group wvw is going to be ridiculously lopsided w/ just a select few classes….
Guardian Specific:
1) The fact that IF you truely want to go out and roam (solo) when there is any decent population on the opposing servers you either 1) have to equip GS + S/F w/ JI and then either Centaur Runes/SY/Retreat for any kind of swiftness. ON top of that, we have ZERO “snaring” ability…. take into consideration every other class does not have to spec like this just to go out and roam (minus Necro, they’re still as horrible at it as us); Or 2) eat it when 3+ see you, eat it when 2 players of equal skill see it, eat it if you’re not tower hugging.
2) Lack of any reliably applicable Chill/Cripple if you did want to deviate from scenario #1 above.
3) Pigeon holed into 2 tree’s unless you run scenario 1 above… if you’re not tanking up, you have to have mobility/escapability… other classes ~still~ have this one attribute built into 90% of their weapons, not just 2 (GS / S).
4) Our Burst DPS is a very Gimmicky build and severely telegraphed.
….. Just to name a few issues. The list is ENORMOUS.
QFT. However, I don’t feel that there’s as big of a mobility problem as people let on when I’m roaming in WvW (especially with medis). I’d be lying if I said I disagree with the need for more snares though. Like, more than just two super-short immobilizes and a traited chill that replaces far more useful traits if used.
I’d probably give my Sunrise for either RoJ or Flashing Blade (maybe both) to cripple as well as blind. I also feel as though Mace could use a daze or stun somewhere on the bar.
So this is going to sound really obvious and you’ll probably hate me for it, but: practice.
Guardians are bad and need buffs and by the Six Anet pls make us heal for more and do more damage. And more mobility and CC too please, like cripples. Thx.
I guess I’ll just have to agree with that assessment. Everyone and their mom said Healing Power was garbage and that I should just run AH for WvW when I started playing.
The point of the game is to have fun, after all.
The only problem I have with that is the rarity of only fighting one guy in any competitive format, or having sufficient recovery time between each engagement.
It might just be my play style bias, but that’s my opinion. I figure you’d want to focus on direct damage for bursting someone down quickly enough for it to “not matter” as a Guardian though. Every second of Burning we rely on is just another second for someone else to show up that we can’t sustain ourselves against while we finish the first guy.
I can probably imagine playing this in PvE, but for WvW or sPvP you seem to be missing any real amount of sustain. No MF (Monk’s Focus) for medi heals, no reduced shout cooldown for SY (not as big of a deal), and only one form of condition removal with the option to trait into a second passive instead of Retributive Armor.
I’m sure the damage is great, but the only things keeping you alive—at best—are two passive condition removals and the vitality and toughness from gear.
Edit: My bad, you also have CoP. Two passives and one direct condi removal. It just doesn’t seem like enough to me in the current, condition-heavy meta.
(edited by Christos de Soufre.3802)
Hrm, 20 in Zeal with no AH, MF, PoV, or AR…
The way I see it, it heals you, and then teleports you and you receive the healing from the healing field. Base of two heals.
MF is just adding another heal to the two that already exist.
It’s simple, really.
Yes, it’s full power in WvW and in dungeons.
I feel pretty weak when I try to run it on Medis in sPvP, so I don’t. I wish I could though. WvW’s just a different beast entirely.
It also turns out that the horribly inefficient Cleric’s/Zerker shout build is actually pretty enjoyable (and reasonably effective) when roaming with a buddy or two. Not missing too much sustain, but the damage is certainly high enough to contribute some burst. I’m not so sure it’d be very effective for solo roaming, though.
(edited by Christos de Soufre.3802)
The first build is trash, to be honest (that’s what happens when you play with build editors at 5 AM). I don’t think I actually intended to use it. I already have a shout build. Will probably just remove that.
The second build is trying to abuse the increase in MF scaling with healing power and somewhat emulate the enjoyment I get out of playing Soldier’s/Zerker triple med in sPvP. I can’t justify running full zerker in T1 WvW. My entire purpose in WvW is either group play or 1vX, and I don’t expect to catch groups of people well enough off-guard as a Guardian.
I’m also super lazy and don’t feel like farming up a millionth set of weapons, which is why the Cleric’s weapons are probably going to stay if I actually bother using meditations. I’m also spoiled to Selfless Daring really badly, which is why I sacrificed RHS for it in the medi build. I’m not super worried about doing tons of damage at once in WvW anyway.
(edited by Christos de Soufre.3802)
They’re it’s for roaming.
Discuss, if you so desire.
(edited by Christos de Soufre.3802)
I think it’s worth it for the marginal stat increase. But I’m a loony min/maxer.
He does so much damage to himself on WoR. Wish I’d thought of that.
In light of the slight disappointment that was ABR (at least in my opinion), I’d like to bring this thread up. This post was about an older dungeon (the Molten Facility), but I feel that all of the points still apply. Now, I’m not trying to say that ABR was an “easy” or “bad” dungeon, just that it wasn’t quite as interesting on challenging.
The final boss was actually pretty decent, but I’d be lying if I said my first group hadn’t figure out all of the telegraphs within the first minute and proceeded to faceroll the entire thing by simply blocking/dodging the captain’s lightning teleport and simply stand-and-shuffling the cannon barrages.
That said, I don’t think any of us are expecting “hard” Living Story dungeons. I just hope that some of these points are taken into consideration when developing new, permanent dungeons—hopefully something that’s already being done, haha.

Thanks for posting. I’ve been aware of the 0/0/10/30/30 with Cleric’s-main tPvP meta for a short time now, as I’ve been spending a little extra time in the competitive format since I returned to the game. It’s also why this build in particular is categorized primarily for WvW. I find builds outside of s/tPvP to be a tad more intricate and “deep,” per se, if only because of the increased level of customization that is allowed via gear.
I guess it also aids in the build’s viability that Selfless Daring, “SY!” and boon dura/HP runes aren’t nerfed outside of s/tPvP.
(edited by Christos de Soufre.3802)
A full bar of signets with Staff and Scepter/x is pretty much as lazy as it’s going to get.
I have plenty of Vit in sPvP.
:l
I’m fine with just the self-cleansing. I get set on fire enough by other Guardians, Dhuumfire Necros, spirit Rangers, scepter/torch Mesmers, Eles, Engis… well, everyone.
There’s a thread about this somewhere..
Edit: It was on the second page — https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/soloing-candidate-trials/first#post2480547
Much stronger than I figured it’d be. I haven’t tried it for WvW, but I’m loving it for roaming in sPvP and it’s alright for just dishing out damage as zerker in PvE.
I’m sure someone mentioned this already, but I’m going to say it. Torch #5 should remove conditions on the caster. I’d go so far as to say we need it in this condition-heavy meta.
It must be really hard to press Z (or whatever you have your sheathe set to) afterward. You have my sympathy.
Oh, and spirit rangers.
