To me, the elementalist’s versatility is their special mechanic, not attunement swapping per sé. No matter what build you pick, you’ll always have damage skills, conditions, cc and heals.
I do agree with your final point though: it does seem that the other professions (and namely the warrior) kinda ruin the game for the elementalist. Maybe if the other professions were toned down a bit (don’t make healing signet equal immunity against everything but bursts for example) the ele would be in a good place.
Either that, or increase ele health by 2-5k. Anet doesn’t like it, but 1 numerical change would solve all the elementalist’s problems in one go.
I really dont get the versatility argument. ALL CLASSES HAVE VERSATILITY. All classes can heal all classes can get boons all classes can do conditions all classes can do dmg. So what is so versatile about the ele that other classes don’t have. They have more bad weapon skills with long cooldowns and as the op pointed out double cooldowns due to attunment swap awesome.

It’s an Entrapment by this class to make their mobilities and bursts more OP than it is. Ride the lightning already output Super Extreme Op burst than it should be. Reversing this lock-down would be a suicide to your vision for class balance.
They are already in The Holy Trinity, why make them more?
Instead, Elementalist are Overly OverPowered and are in serious need to be Nerfed/Balanced more.
You gave them Invincibility (Diamond Skin), what more?

Lol diamond skin is awful. Also the video doesn’t show anything other than an organized guild rolling over awful pug zergs in wvw that happens every day on every class.
Yup its really bad in our matchup sos/db/mag. Sos has a 100 man map blob running around all 4 maps. Whenever the blob is anywhere even remotly close to you your skills stop working then all all at once everything registers and you just die. I been loging off out of frustration.
Anet simply can’t do it if they wanted to due to performance reason. We can start doing some things though such as. Remove rally or make it 1 person rallied per kill. Remove hard rezing if you get spiked you waypoint period.
Don’t feel bad sor dude my server DB worked there butt off to get into gold league to place last every week and not get enough tickets. Good job db having so much fun this week with 100 man sos blobs on every map and horrible skill lag.
Please anet devs fix ride the lightning for the april 15th patch. Its probably the single most wished for thing all ele’s want. No other mobility skill in the game punishes you for using your mobility skill to get out of harms way. It was a poorly thought out nerf. Other classes have been buffed a lot since then as well. Warrior can leap with sword 8 second cd whirl with gs 10 second cd rush with gs 20 second cd. Please fix rtl.
I applaud these changes as they will hopefully influence the meta in a positive way. These minor nerfs, + the new traits, + rune and sigil changes will hopefully all come together in a positive manner.
My biggest concern now is Conditions, especially with the introduction of Perplexity Runes into sPvP.
I just wish ANet would have reached these conclusions about balance by themselves instead of having them force-fed to them by the community.
This. Conditions were already way out of hand. Now critical dmg is getting nerfed hard with ferocity being introduced. Personally I didn’t feel any class besides thief was doing to much raw dmg and the thief problem was more the fact of there being no cooldowns on thief especially backstab. Also with 2 handed weps getting more sigils and the new runes I think conditions will be even more out of hand.
Versatility. If you make an elementalist build that excels in just 1 thing, you’re not playing to your fullest potential. It’s not bunker or glass cannon. Builds that are a mix of both perform best in PvP. As for PvE, ele dps is among the highest out there so there they get extra damage.
See arguments like these could also be why we don’t get fixed. If you make an ele build that is a good mix of all stats. The ele will be sub par at everything. If you make a warrior for example with a good mix of all stats he is good at everything. As for the high dmg argument. In pvp an ele only has high dmg if speced full on glass cannon with no defensive mechanic to survive and your enemies all clump together and don’t attack back. Anybody with even a smidget of a brain will just move out of your aoe or attack back and kill you in seconds. This threads title is also the reason almost all ele’s are forced into using cantrips. Because its absolutely necessary to use those defensive utilites/cantrips to attempt to survive.

Pretty sure the devs just don’t play ele so they have no idea what its like having to be either a bunker ele that does 0 damage or a glass nerf gun that does only semi decent dmg and dies in 3 seconds.
Took a long time to kill some terrible players and up levels. Ya ele is in an awful spot right now.
My other classes cus its clear ele isn’t getting any good changes and the new gm traits are awful.
Lol…..wrong. We probably got the best new balance changes out of everyone, not to mention hambow warrior, s/P thief, and Decap Engi just got some more nerds today so we might actually have a chance to have a viable role in sPvP now.
An evade on burning speed and a blast finisher is really gonna make ele all of a sudden amazing lol.
Or they could like make healing power useful and scale decently.
Prepare to get constantly chased around and destroyed by thieves.

I play most the classes and find ele to be the least fun. DD ele could be fun if they weren’t so underpowered compared to my other classes. If i want to do dmg I am way better off playing my thief mesmer or warrior than dd ele. Staff ele is probably the most boring class/wep set in the entire game. The other ele weps are awful as well.
I would do this for gold league but remember the days when internet was so slow thats all you did was lag trying to play an mmo. Ya its pretty much the same thing in gold league thanks again for pushing hard to get into this awful league.
I just dont like any of the new gm ele traits. Some of the other class traits seem pretty nice though. 3 second invul on kill would be awesome but the class that already has stealth and clones gets it. 300 more vitality would be nice. Parasitic contagion would be nice some of our condi dmg healing us. 1000 toughness when stun fear disabled etc for 4 seconds would be nice. However what we got just seems poor.
I doubt it honestly everytime anet has ever given us a preview or patch notes before the patch. It is always 100% exactly what they previewed or was on the notes. They never change anything afterwards.
Very dissapointed. Ele been underpowered for awhile now. The devs kept going on about an elepocalypse and this is what were gonna get. From past experiences I now know what they showed us is exactly to the T what is gonna get changed for ele. Basically added no survivability to us. No defensive gimmick. Cooldowns are still awful on almost everything. I would much rather have several of the other classes new traits then the junk we are getting. The cooldown on blinding flash will make it useless. A few seconds of weakness dosn’t make a difference. Earth attunement is awful. I don’t give a crap about healing my allies when I am dead cus ele has no hp no armor no defensive mechanic poor self heals. Arcane trait is really bad and almost the same thing as a major trait we already have.
I just find it funny that the class that has clones and stealth got more survivability. While ele’s who been complaining for a long time that there surive sux. No clones no stealth long cooldowns on everything is pretty much getting nothing. All the new ele traits are pretty awful. Earth was the only semi decent one but its only while your in earth attunement which is the worst attunement.
Thanks for clarification. Still not even close to worth being a gm trait. The ele just simply doen’t have any big ally heals. Water fields tick for very minimum. 25% more won’t matter to something that ticks for like 120 a tick. Evasive arcana doesn’t heal that much either so 25% more wont matter much and it requires you to be right next to your allies for them to get any healing. Ele are backliners that aren’t near the allies that need healing except on a reroup where they toss down water fields FOR ALLIES TO BLAST THEMSELEVES NOT ELE. As for regen ele has one skill that gives allies regen to benefit from this trait healing rain. Unless there are some big changes in the balancing patch giving the ele worthwhile healing this trait is just plain awful.

It sound, meh, 25% more healing power to other people and exclude you from get that healing. Traits for other classes seems much better, except warrior. Hope others traits will be better
It might sound meh to you but I actually find it being pretty kitten scary. Well organized groups already heal for a lot already, an elementalist boosting their parties heal by 25% and guardians boosting everyones vit by 300? Are havoc groups going to become the new meta? Will there be a new havoc group that kills more people than SPCA ever could? 5 vs 40? lol
Read the notes again bud. Ele trait will only boost ele healing to allies. Guardian trait will only increase guardian vit.
Completely agree. Who’s bright idea was it to put a selfish trait like that in a supportive line anyway? The only guardians who would want this are damage-centric ones, and why would they ever go near honor?
I’m so jealous at what the elementalists are getting, that totally should’ve been on the Guardian. Heck, I’m even a little jealous at what the rangers are getting.Not to mention this trait is just boring and unimaginative. I couldn’t come up with a more boring trait if I tried. I doubt ANet will change anything about it despite all the complaints.
Um maybe on a guardian the ele trait might be ok. As for on the ele its absolute trash. Ele has no armor/health to stick near allies in spvp or wvw. Staff only has 2 heals which don’t heal for jack squat they are strictly used for others to blast heal themselves. DD ele has one heal on a long cooldown. Combining it with evasive arcana might be the only use the triat could possible have 10 second cooldown dodge small heal. Which will only make the heal ever so slightly stronger. Plus NONE of the healing effects the ele at all. IMO tied for thief as worst new trait announced. I would love to trade ya 3k more health on my ele would be nice.

April 15th is a month away. Is there still a chance we can get this first trait announced changed to something useful. Its total garbage and nobody will ever use it. Seriously might as well not of even wasted your time making it in its current form. Some tweaks though could make it useful.
Sigh new grandmaster traits that make classes that are already strong like engi even better and ones that need help like ele will be poorly thought out. I mean serioursly how many heals does ele have. With staff they have 2 water fields which don’t heal for jack squat. They are only used to blast to get decent heals. Dagger dagger has 1 heal on a really long cooldown which again doesnt heal that much. The only use at all this trait will have is for evasive arcana trait. 10 second cooldown small heal on dodge which again doesn’t heal that much so the increase wont matter. Plus you will need 2 grandmaster traits to do a slightly better heal every 10 seconds on a dodge and you don’t benefit from the heal at all.
SBI gives us good fights. SOR on the other hand hasn’t even shown up for 3 weeks. Tier 8 has more coverage than sor atm. It’s literly us vs sbi for the 3rd week in a row. Because of this we are gaining a mass amount of points. We might actually jump from 7th to 5th by the 28th if we keep end up playing this matchup. DB is simply not ready for gold league yet. We have nowhere near the coverage they do. Servers like sos run larger guilds on one bl then our entire map blob. If we had been playing fa mag sbi ioj like we should have been the past month we would be in the position we should be in. Not getting super inflated points because one of the servers we are playing is nowhere to be seen. Its now Wednesday and sor has 50k points. That’s less than half as much as any other server in any match up on either na or eu.

Mystforge weps can be made at the mystic forge with 1 gift of battle 1 heros weapon 4 bottles of elonin wine and 10 piles of crystaline dust. It looks like the gift of battle can be bought for 250 badges and the heros weapon is 100 tokens. So a first place server could buy 5 heros weapons using 500 tokens and 5 gifts of battle using 1250 badges.
You guys seem so sure FA is gonna be in gold. I am on DB and don’t really want to be in gold so it will probably happen. It all depends on the next match. If we get matched up with sbi and sor for a 4th week in a row im gonna claw my eyes out with a rusty fork.

As the title says, is there some super build that just allows a theif to come back from near death to full hp and still pump out damage at an unholy level?
Just happened to me. 23 bleed, 5 torment stacks, burning and poison from a sigil. I can’t see his hp bar and he just cartwheels away and full bar heals himself with a lunge back skill.
WTF is that kitten? What is the skills name? Oh btw, it totally cleanses all of my condis.
Well how else do you expect a thief to actually have a chance against you? Want him to stand out in the open and let you destroy him? Stop your whining and realize that thieves must have stealth (ninja escape alternatives) and above normal damage in order for them to actually be a freaking thief and have equal opportunity in the battlefield.
This is exactly how I feel about my ele but he doesn’t get stealth.

I found one right out in the middle of the spawn area in EB. He doesn’t seem to know how our server did last season, which is kinda weird, but I guess you can’t expect what little we get to work properly from the get-go.
Odd he is not there on my server Dragonbrand. We are green maybe they forgot us. Ok nm now all of a sudden he is there. He doesn’t seem to know anything though other than what server I was on last tourny.

I kept getting all squishy teams last night. Somehow though we kept managing to pull it off.
DB isnt even trying and still destroying sbi and sor sigh. We didn’t cap much of anything last night on eb. Just farmed deth by sbi keep. Yet we still held sor side the whole night and are destroying both in ppt. I think I may have seen 5 sor trying to recap some of their towers while getting held off by our random pugs.
If its not working. Use a bigger hammer. On a serious note though as many have mentioned. Hammer for warrior needs to be either a cc wep or a damage wep. Right now its both. Anet seemed like they wanted to go the route of making it a cc wep and reduced the dmg a bit. In the patch before that they buffed the #4 ability making it so you could use it while moving helping the cc even more. So they should just make some more nerfs to dmg of the skils and auto attack of hammer. It still hits way to hard.

Pretty much spot on and addresses most the cheese as you call it builds in spvp. Not sure about ele burst though. In wvw I do ok burst but in spvp even with zerker I don’t do that much then have long cooldowns and a low healthpool and no armor to make up for that meh burst I have. Pretty sure a warrior with zerker amulet auto attacking with hammer will out damage ele burst and still be very tanky due to heavy armor and high hp.
I have no problem with it. Seems like a learn to play or learn to make a build issue. First off diamond skin is only good in one situation. A 1v1 vs a full on dire or rapid gear condi user. It is almost useless in a team situation. If you are running into alot of DS eles maybe its time to switch to carrion or add some power precision crit dmg to your build instead of full on condi dmg. Last maybe try not opening up right away with all your big condi spamming abilities when you see an ele to make sure they are not DS ele’s. I have fought both necros who ALWAYS spam all of there big condi skills right away no matter what then have nothing left. I have also fought necros who knew to wait till DS wore off then do the big condi burst.
That some classes really need more access to stability. They should probably just change one of the racial utility skills for each race to balanced stance.
Hoping for mag and fort aspenwood against us (DB). I know for a fact db isnt ready to be in the gold tourny. We would probably win silver pretty easy but we do get lots of good fights from servers like sbi. Gold would probably not even be fun. I was on SOS awhile ago and it wasnt much fun. It was all gvg with guilds running 40+ on each side. Basically just there warrior hammer melee train was larger than the guild I run with.
Condition removal counters conditions, actually.
Thats kinda like saying using your heal counters raw dmg. For those that claim zerker gives you so much more dmg then pvt in spvp which class are you talking about besides thief and or maybe mesmer. All other classes really just dont dish out much more dmg with zerker gear and become way squishier. Even a thief can just trait for 100% crit chance from stealth and still hit hard with pvt gear.
IoJ and SBI need to put aside any past differences and 2v1 the #7 server to keep things interesting for them.
If DB stays in 7th for the tourny. Come at us bro.
After playing around with a lot of different builds on different classes. It has come to my attention that toughness is one of the main issues with pvp balance. It scales to well compared to power. You are pretty much better off using pvt gear over zerker on just about any class to deal dmg. Using zerker makes you very squishy and doesn’t give you that much more dmg then pvt gear.
This is probably one of the main reasons conditions is the meta right now. You only need condi dmg to put out a lot of dmg. There is no stat that directly counters condi dmg like toughness does raw dmg. So you can get your dmg out put in condi dmg and two defensive stats like dire gear. Or you can get condi dmg and take precision for more on crit condi dmg and a defensive stat.
This isn’t a problem strictly against warriors but any class who runs a bunker style build.
If you take class running full glass cannon vs a class running full bunker, the bunker build will do more damage to the glass class, than the glass will do to the bunker which is a bit ridiculous.
This issue doesn’t crop up much because I think most people don’t run a full glass build, but for those that do should notice it. It does get mentioned here from time to time, and realistically it should be something Anet addresses.
Warriors obviously stand out due to their high damage output already coupled with their high armor and health pool. I’m ok with them having high damage with high armor, but realistically any class running full dps should be hitting a lot harder than a warrior (or any other class for that matter), in full bunker.
Basically full dps class should always do more damage to a target that isn’t in full dps. Right now, this is not the case.
Again this^ Thief and mesmer are the only classes that to me seem to actually hit really hard when build glassy. All other classes just don’t seem to benefit from a glassy build. They still dont hit very hard and are now much easier to kill.
If DB gets into gold half their population will stop showing up. They have a huge fairweather pop. How exactly is FA bleeding guilds? Please enlighten us. Lol
This is my concern. Looks like a lose lose for DB right now. If we go into silver league we will probably win and have easy boring weeks like we do right now. If we go into gold we will lose so bad guildies and entire guilds will probably quit or transfer like they did when we lost every week on DR back in the first season.
I have most all classes and yes warriors are kinda out of control right now. Problem is anet takes to long to patch. Warrior is slowly becoming the flavor of the year. Warrior has hands down the best heal. I will take healing singet on any of my other classes pls. But that would be op right yet its not op on warrior. They have great mobility for being a heavy armor class. 8 second savage leap compared to say ride the lightning 40 second cd 20 if you hit somebody. Plus warrior have rush whirl and even earthshaker. All of the strong warrior traits are in the defense line. Warriors have way more stability time than most any class which is a major factor in wvw fights. Warriors can get some pretty insane stats since they are heavy armor and high health pool to begin with. Last mostly defensive built warriors can hit really hard with hammer even after the nerfs. I do considerably more dmg swinging a hammer with the 1 key on my warrior who is defensive built than my ele who is pretty glass cannony while using his abilities.
I am still a little confused about this new tourny set up. So It looks like my server DB is probably gonna be ranked 6th going into the tourny. Does that mean we will face 2 other gold league servers who have much greater coverage then us the first week and lose. Then the second week we face 2 more gold league servers who lost the first week and lose again cus they still have much greater coverage then us and so on and so forth for 9 weeks. Or will at some point we will get to face a silver or bronze league server and get a win?
You stay in gold league for the entire season. If you’re the smallest server in the league, you probably will lose a lot.
The transfers may change up who is smaller and who is bigger.
