I think what he’s saying is there is an opportunity to respawn every 20 seconds.
If you die with 19 seconds left, you wait 19 seconds until the next “spawn point bus” comes.
You need to see the stomp before you know there’s one to interrupt.
“In addition, 2 of the remainder fire in a narrow line, and it is a waste to fire them without being certain the target is going to remain in front of you for 1 second”
But isnt the thief stomping? And standing still? And arent you certain that they are right there, where your mate is downed? And for a lot more than 1 second? Not sure if i follow this, but ure just a usual costumer of the Cry Shop, so…
The one will miss stationary objects a lot of the time, it’s so hard to make hit. You have to be facing right where the stealthed person is standing, really close. The other will do 3% damage to his hp as it’s water’s auto attack, which is the weakest one and still may miss if you aren’t sure where in the circle around the ally the stealthed person is. I could have left those 2 skills out to strengthen my argument but for completeness and fairness I listed them. I have never shed a tear playing this game, in case you were concerned.
Haha back away slowly!
Sometimes it’s 3s, sometimes it’s 18s. Why?
What makes you think you need to bypass the front guards in the first place?
Thief is the only class that really needs to because 1 stun = death.
Go watch Teldo’s stream or something. I’ve seen him tank all of the minions and not even blowing his elite.
Thief = same base HP as ele but with medium armor. If something is deadly for thief, it’s deadly for ele.
Also, the only reason a stealth thief can bypass the guards is because of rapid stealth, causing them to run to him and return to their positions when he’s cloaked. If they intelligently attacked the location around the lord, it would be balanced.
Edit: I just found an abandoned Foefire map and tried attacking the Lord without touching the guards. I got him to about 90% health.

Well on my S/D ele, there are 8 that require targets out of 18 skills that can affect an enemy. In addition, 2 of the remainder fire in a narrow line, and it is a waste to fire them without being certain the target is going to remain in front of you for 1 second.
Of the 4 auto-attacks, 3 will do no damage without a target, and the last is a straight-ahead line attack that is the weakest of them all.
I could understand for classes that can swing a sword until the thief is visible, but it’s quite difficult for other classes.
Today each match was half filled with rangers.
1-2 pets each, it’s a like a zoo!
it is only a visual effect bu stealth DOES NOT GIVE any other kind of buff. stealthed ones can be hit, can be killed can be CC’d.
Not true. the buff is that the thief is immune to all targetted skills while stealthed. That’s a huge buff.
I don’t like stealth stomps. The others aren’t so bad because they have a high recharge. A player has to decide if it’s worth it to use Mist Form for a stomp in order to guarantee the kill because they’ll lose their panic button for 45 seconds.
I’m sorry but most of that puzzle stuff wasn’t relelvant here.
So you’re saying elementalists can solo a Lord without killing the guards because of the new smoke field. In fact, the smoke field is an underwater ability and won’t work. Even if they did have a smoke field on land, it would have a 10s cooldown at least and 5 NPCs on 1 ele = 5 NPCs on 1 dead ele. Can’t comment about engineers. Mesmers aren’t able to make guards turn around and relax repeatedly in combat with their stealth.
There’s nothing that has made me want to play with thieves in this thread, rather the opposite. It has been a positive change.
It seems he has gotten your aggro. XD
Geez, there’s no reason to put Oglaf on trial. He was just putting his experience out there. Nothing to take offense with.
I might switch a couple of toughness jewels for vitality jewels to see if this has any effect.
One place that bugs me is in the Claw fight. The vet elementals on either edge of the cliff seem to fire their ice missiles at me no matter how many golems, npcs, other players are walking right by them. The range on them is probably 1500 and if I leave range, it remembers me. I wish it would spread around because I can’t even move forward to attack the pillars a lot of the time. 3 of those and I’m downed. That’s with my MF gear that has 43 toughness + no tough traits.
I have a feeling they have special aggro that attacks a certain area preferrably.
More insulting responses. Very interesting. No mudslinging coming from me.
Yeah it happens to me. It sounds like an echo gone out of control.
The strange thing is, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it while the game is alt-tabbed out. All of the other sounds are muted when alt-tabbed but this still gets through.
Less than an hour in pvP is rank 9? Surely we are playing a different game!
I’m not saying I know what balance is. I’m saying no one does, it is still under heavy construction, but with situations like these, it is glaringly obvious even to a rank 9er that something is wrong.
I’m also not telling anyone else to change, I’m saying I’m going to do something to improve the game for myself instead of just complaining like everyone else.
Well.. with a lot of bosses, they hold their weapon over their head when it charges, which is covered up by their name, the target symbol and all of the attack numbers & critical blood splat.
Disclaimer: I have read the wiki page!
I want to know why monsters will just chase me down, even though I’m not doing the most damage and am not the closest one to them. They will not leave me alone in some cases, and i can even get out of their attack range but once i re-enter, they resume hitting me.
I can’t figure this out and would love to know how to avoid aggro more as a light armor class.
lol of course it’s not like a piano scale. They have to include the notes used by the game music and are only allowed 8 of them. If they made a strict Do Re Mi… it would sound totally wrong.
Icebrood Wolf
That initial attack that makes it lunge at superspeed, cracking the ground, can take me down to 20% health. And that’s just the regular version. Vet & Champ can down me in 1 shot.
I dodge a lot and even when I see it running at me and ready the dodge button, the timing is very strange and I often get hurt anyway. It’s like it hits before the animation reaches you.
Mainly it’s bad in the Claw of Jormag fight because they haven’t even been rendered and I’m already downed.
We are desperate for bug fixes. They should be happy to give us what we want. It’s in their best interest to post every little fix they do to make us think they’re actually hard at work pleasing us. But they don’t.
Are any bugs fixed? Were the changes something that would make everyone angry?
Saying “fixed bugs” in the document that is supposed to list the bugs fixed is unacceptable, and it just breeds even more paranoia amongst the already paranoid user base.
Please list all changes from the past patches and from now on. If it makes us angry, let us get angry. At least we’d be able to rely on you to tell us the truth.
I have been downed a lot of times in PvP. The number of times my mist form got me to safety so I could heal: 2. Once because I was near the base and ran through the door to safety. The other time, it must have been a noob who thought I was dead and they ran away. Every other time it did nothing to save me. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying it’s not as great as it seems and the cooldown is 20s. Also downed penalty gets +1 each time it’s used.
Downed mist form is futile in PvP. I only use it to delay my enemy by 3 seconds (like it’ll make a diff) or to try to combat taking the point by a sliver.
Who says the devs know what perfectly balanced is? If they did, it would have been balanced from the start. They’re just guessing at numbers and figures, taking feedback from us.
You might ask me what kind of build I use instead of assume I use glass cannon.
The devs also might say I should learn to play the Clock Tower jumping puzzle, which is a multi-hour bad time for me. Instead I learned to choose a better time by not taking part.
You may also want to send an email to the Keep Lords about how to fight thieves, since they seem to be very bad at fighting them.
My god what a reaction. Coming from a thief. What came first, the class choice or the unkindness?
I don’t give a crap about icons and cosmetic crap.
But collections changes deserves a jump for joy.
I feel that there have been negative changes as well that are either not being stated (like when they change dragon timers) or indirect (like buffing everyone but not equally, therefore making some weaker) and am most certainly not going to thank them in general for giving me 5 after taking 10.
Sounds more like hacking to me than anything a ranger is actually capable of.
Quite possible.
But I talked with a ranger last night with a build that let them dodge 6 times in a row. Was quite insane. Tried a duel with their ele, we were both even and couldn’t damage each other much. They switched to Ranger, I had the same success with them (barely dented their HP) but they had me at 30-60% most of the time. If we kept going I would have lost for sure. Definitely more tank than the pretty universally-agreed-upon OP ele tank builds.
You responded to:
Also, 52 silver isn’t practically free. It’ll buy a lot of waypoints and armor repairs.
Not that I’m complaining, I don’t even want them, but thought I would ask.
With:
You are complaining about 50ish silver…? Really?
I don’t even.
I have 2 stun breakers, but I’m not waiting on an attack to press the button, I’m running to get somewhere. There is time between deciding where to go next, noticing you are immobilized, rushing to hit the panic button and if the thief hits their 2 buttons before that, I am dead. And no, you shouldn’t need to be an expert with his finger always over 7 in case a thief is around you at all moments in PvP, that’s crazy. No other class requires that.
Also, stun breakers have 40-45s cooldowns. If yours aren’t available, it’s instant helpless death.
For the Lord: I did run to the base, catching the thief while the door was still up. and doing a bit of damage, but of course stealth + 33% speed means they have no fear of dying, and they raced up to the lord, bypassing guards (as only thieves can) and got to work. I had used immobilize and 2 knockdowns + aoes, and only a couple hit because they were dodged or blocked. I managed to get his health down to a sliver (with practically no help from the NPCs), but he vanished, healed, and resumed until Lord died.
There’s no reasoning that makes this is a sensible behaviour. Until it is made sensible, I’ll choose away from Thief.
Care to counter any of the reasons I posted or just laugh?
Braxxus, I have no idea how she revived herself the first time. I saw the pet healing her in battle but it didn’t finish, and they were attacking her still. A few seconds later she revived on her own.
The second time it was that Spirit or Nature tree thing that revived her. Her pet came back but wasn’t attacking anyone, strangely. Then she died and stuck around a while before finally succumbing to the army. I would have said impossible too.
A guildie says he gets about 1/2 mystic forges resulting in an upgrade.
For me, I was getting 8 bad forges in a row before an upgrade. I try now and again to see if things change but haven’t gotten an upgrade in days. I also get an average of less than 1 ecto per exotic lv70+ salvage now. Other say they get 2 average.
It could be that people are extremely unreliable in their retellings. A scary and real possibility is that there is a personal luck mechanism that limits what certain players get. Could be that ones who have made a lot of money over a short time get hit with it, could be that accounts are flagged permanently, could be that some kind of behaviour like doing a lot of forges or logging for many hours causes a personal luck nerf. An current MMO with a big budget has the capability to do stuff like this.
At the beginning I was making lots of gold selling the Shadow armor set, crafted from a recipe from a Renown Heart. No one else was making it. All at once, I saw stacks of 10 of each piece being posted on the TP for half the price I was selling for. They would sell off rapidly. Then 10 stacks for half that price. Counter-intuitive to a player wanting to make money, going cheaper the easier it sells.
It went from 35s each to 2s each, appearing to be by the same person using the same stages of lower prices in huge numbers that would be very difficult to manage given that armor doesn’t stack in inventory. Keep in mind the minimum crafting cost was 6s, so someone was posting in bulk at a huge loss. I asked Anet and they didn’t expressly say they it wasn’t them. They said something like “Sorry we can’t remove listings”, avoiding my question.
Since then, I’ve wondered if my early success has placed me on a bad luck list. Considering their transparency, I won’t ever know.

To be fair, to join in the game now with current loot rate and difficulty making money on the trading post, they can have their bonuses! The best part of the game for me was september, and I wouldn’t trade a september for the current discount.
I’m talking about the 1-second insta-kills before I even realize there is anyone around me. And the ability to solo a Lord + 4 guards via abusing aggro mechanics. And the ability to abuse the culling issue.
The only thieves I can respect and enjoy playing with are ones who aren’t built around stealth most of the time. But since I can’t divine which players these are, I’ll be fine with not playing with any thieves.
For the same reason a giant flaming spike of rock shouldn’t float over a person’s head for 2 seconds pointlessly when it doesn’t help the ele by leaving it there. Also for the same reason said flaming spike of rock does no damage when it crashes on the enemy’s head if the ele dodges during that 3s.
If things worked as realistically as you asked, stealth wouldn’t be fully invisible, it would be hiding in plain sight. We’d still see footprints, sounds, the look of someone CCed in stealth who can’t control their appearance, we’d see water that is coating them when splashed with water, or dust, or smoke when burning. We’d also be able to target everything where we want it instead of where the skill feels like targetting. We’d also be able to start channeling before a thief became visible again and unleash as soon as we see it.
So you see, being able to channel and connect if the thief goes into stealth partway though, despite being unrealistic, makes up for these other ways that we are unable to damage a thief where we should be able to realistically.
Well I was trying to get a ranger bot killed today. She was standing in a lv 80 zone, SURROUNDED by grawl and a just-opened gift box full of dolls.
I had to keep dragging more and more mobs to attack her. She just stood still in her well, with her jungle cat dying and coming back, and her getting downed and recovering fully twice before finally dying about 10 mins later.
This is with no skill, no dodge, no movement. She stood still for the entire thing.
I have heard rangers are underpowered a lot. But bots choose them most, and from what I saw today, I will now be praying to Rangers before bed as they are GODS.
Bags aren’t cosmetic. To get anything more than 10 slots you need to do way more grinding than to get those bags in pve.
Elementalist? They get 1 save from a finisher. Thief & mesmer get unlimited. It’s actually faster to just hit them with auto attack than try a finisher.
Warriors I agree with though, since almost every time you are downed in PvP you are going to die anyway, it’s really like giving them a bunch of extra HP.
I don’t know about you but doing the Claw of Jormag since Wintersday started, I am getting next to no drops from the adds.
I used to nearly fill up my inventory, mostly with white & blue, but I just did one and ended up with a t5 tooth, a green rifle and a blue light armor from the mobs. I had lots of MF, was in a party of 4 who stuck together for the most part. Ele staff means lots of tags, and I didn’t spread very thin.
6 weeks ago I would have gotten at least a rare from them. 1 week ago I would have gotten 10 items at least from them.
I can’t believe how they’re treating us. This is why I quit Perfect World. Their actions told me “We don’t care about you or your time. We are going to make this game as horrible on you as possible until you give us more and more money. That’s all you are to us: wallets. Pay us as much as we can squeeze from you or GTFO.” And I never did return to Perfect World again. Didn’t move on to anything else for years. I’m getting that same taste in my mouth.
I have found the maps more empty than usual today.
Maybe there’s another reason why they were in sparkfly.
They have to tell us if they don’t want us to hate them. They also don’t have to give us any drops at all. But we would all stop playing, so…
How about some complete patch notes!
I see Twilight is still up for sale. What was fixed?
Well if someone has more burning than you, you might as well not even apply burning.
It also means that in a group, damage kills an enemy faster than condition can make a dent.
We were told before Wintersday that she’d be available through wintersday.
You can still hear her annoying voice in LA, but that’s a promise that was broken.
I’m sure she’ll return with higher prices and worse rewards. No karka sigils in the items I bet.
Please show us the list of bugs fixed.
ohhh someone told me it was a death pit. I never use it because I either never die or do so honourably.
Thanks for the info.
You owe me 1 jormag chest + event reward!
>:(
Just run around killing monsters for ten minutes, you’ll end up with better rewards overall anyways. :P
Actually I have noticed since Wintersday the adds give next to nothing now too. Least profitable dragon events lately.
It should, it’s just a bother loading each zone and probably causes them extra server load using LA as a hub.
You owe me 1 jormag chest + event reward!
>:(
Well it must be nice being a thief. For the rest of us who actually have to deal with taking damage…
Use stability before opening the present, smash F until it’s picked up, use any kind of knockdown/knockback, speed away.
I can solo the skritt ones. Possibly the dolls but it would take forever and there’s no point. The Ventari are the ones i have the most trouble with as they have retaliation. Cannot beat alone..
It’s obviously a bug in low level zones, hopefully fixed soon.
This was an insider preview of wintersday I believe.
Also, 52 silver isn’t practically free. It’ll buy a lot of waypoints and armor repairs.
Not that I’m complaining, I don’t even want them, but thought I would ask.
I read before Wintersday that they would be a free item in the gem store. Why did it change?
Is there any way to deal with perma retaliation? I can’t figure out any way to fight them without killing myself.
It helps with groups, but of about 6 that I came across, only 1 of them had another player around to help. Everyone is doing the activities in the city or FotM.
I’ve resolved to check who is involved in a match as soon as I get in for now on. If there are thieves, I’m just going to go out and try again until I find one without them. I’ll do this until something is done about stealth and their recent OPness is reverted.
It’ll make my gaming experience more fair, enjoyable, and give people an actual drawback to choosing a cheesy playstyle: fewer people willing to play with them.
