So I started a new elementalist yesterday post patch…

Wow.

I’m not sure how much thought went into the level gating system. It feels like someone who really didn’t understand how GW2 plays made some arbitrary decisions based on existing abilities and level structures. It doesn’t teach the game and its systems, if anything it keeps the game from feeling cohesive.

And it isn’t fun.

Running around the starter area pressing one button over and over again for a level is… not fun. You’re asking people to do this for 5-10 minutes until they unlock… another button.

People don’t want to wait 5-10 seconds for a web page to load, why would they want to press one button for 5-10 minutes? The previous experience had unlocks too, but they were much more incremental. The indicators were clear. A new user might not understand everything right away, but at least they weren’t bored.

What the old user experience lacked was an inline tutorial system, the unlocks were balanced. Knowing things like holding down ALT to split a stack would have been good tool tips. A dumb arrow over my healing skill isn’t useful.

This is really bad. I love the game, but these changes are really a step back in design. I can’t honestly tell my friends to buy this game now. That’s heartbreaking. I have things I want to spend gems on, but now I don’t feel right supporting the game. That’s terrible.

Anet, reverse these changes. This is not something that will shake itself out. This is a burden to every new player. Maintaining version parity might make sense from a development stand point, but this is too far. You’re killing the cash cow. You’re making a quality experience feel like much less. Don’t do this. Stop this.

I’m really only interested in PvE play, and I don’t have long to play each day. Previous dailies had enough options that I could do the PvEs and be fine, sometimes without even planning it.

Now it feels like a chore because I have to break my stride to make sure I meet my dailies before running out of time each evening. I know that mechanically it isn’t awful, but it feels awful.

Like being in traffic going 35 on the freeway. It’s frustrating, but I’ll get there. It might take me longer going 35 on the surface streets, but in doing so I feel better. I feel like I have more control.

Just add more dailies, you have an AP cap so it’s not like it matters how many are available. Make it a reward for logging in and playing, because I feel like I’m getting punished if I log in and want to do anything more than my dailies.

In my experience contested waypoints are normally open for most areas, closing them off from outside map travel adds additional in game cost and load time delay (my big concern).

The system was built with the idea that those contested points were placed in relation to open waypoints in a way that made sense. If additional waypoints were placed near contested area, but just outside the range, that would make more sense. Or maybe move the existing waypoints out of the contested area, have them always on the fringe. As proposed the plan is going to make getting around a chore, and it already is.

Compare WoW. Running somewhere sucks for time, but you get to see the world between point A and point B seamlessly. In GW2 you get loading screens if you try that over distance. It’s decidedly worse. But GW2 has the leg up on WoW in fast travel. The waypoint system is fast and efficient, but suffers from loading screen downtime. Flight points in WoW are pretty, but ultimately a time to sort your bags and get a drink. Nearly as bad as loading screens. I I could have windows open during loading screens, things might be different. I frequently have a 3-5 minute wait on loading screens, though usually somewhat shorter in map.

Something more has to be done than locking down contested waypoints. This is the easy solution, but there has to be a clever or at least elegant one.

Opposite over here. I read all the material, followed the releases and couldn’t shake the feeling that this villain just didn’t hold water.

She’s SOOOO smart, and SOOOO persuasive, and SOOOO dangerous, and and and… here’s a dragon.

Seriously, she basically made play things of some of the pillars of Asura culture. Did we learn anything about the eternal alchemy because of this? No, really it was just sort of a totem to show us she’s really smart. Ignore the fact that doing that cheapens the implied complexity of the concept of the eternal alchemy and makes all those Asuran “geniuses” who can only handle one school look pretty dumb.

And you can find plenty of threads on Google about how people are scratching their heads over some of these alliances and why it makes sense for them to follow Scarlet. You won’t be able to read them because the majority get a permalink error when connecting to this site…

And she’s so dangerous not because we’ve seen some subtle and careful build up of power and influence, but because she has more industrial capacity at her whim than all the heroic nations of Tyria combined. Maybe more than the entire planet combined if you consider how fast she turns around these schemes. Massive structures, massive weapons, seemingly endless armies. She pooped out a giant flying drill for Lyssa’s sake! How, where, when? Nope, just is. She dangerous for real.

To top it all off, when the whole thing comes down to an instanced showdown, we find out she meant just about jack because the whole thing was all about waking another dragon. Now we have a full set! One being in less than mint condition…

I have no problems with waking up Mordremoth, or as I think of him, Veggie Tail. I know he’s been there for awhile and all signs pointed to a sixth elder dragon. Cool, awesome, serve him up. But now that dragon has to have his own “Raising Orr” moment to flex his giant vine covered wings and show us how dangerous he is.

Scarlet was meaningless, to be frank, poorly written. I got the same feeling from the Living Story season that I get from blockbuster movies that have an army of script doctors. Too many rewrites, not enough consistent narrative. An obvious lack of vision.

Here’s hoping the production will be a bit tighter next time around and the characters less of a stretch. For now I just hope we focus on Mordremoth and never talk about this Scarlet thing again.

Hey Xaiku,

What hours do you guys normally play?

From first impressions, you seem like you’d be good to game with. So we’d be happy to have you in Cynical on Tarnished Coast. My only concern is that you’d have enough people to play with if you play in the middle of the North American nighttime. We have a few that stay on mumble until about 6pm ACT (not sure if that’s your zone). And last time I was up all night, I think there was 3 people online at the lowest point. We get around 10 in the NA daytime and 30 at peak NA nights. So I’ll leave that to you to see if it’s a good fit for hours.

As for dungeons, we do 2 organized regular dungeon events and 1 fractal night per week. And then lots of ad hoc groups as requested in /guild chat. The fast ones get done every day. We have an LFG area on our forum where you can say what you want to get done and find others who are interested in the same.

When I joined a year ago, I had only done AC and CM, so I made a topic tracking the ones I hadn’t done, and got steady progress on getting my dungeon master title with guild groups.

It really breathed new life into the game, finding the right guild, and one with enough people to play with. You should definitely try a bigger guild before giving up on the game.

Hey Dietere,

Cynical [CYN] on TC is mostly PvE but we do have WvW and PvP nights.
HotW gets done a lot, often by people asking in guild chat. Arah is something we usually post about on the forum to get a group of people who need it done together.

I think most people in the guild would prefer to make a quick plan before charging in, unlike a lot of PUGs. Unless it’s a super common path like CoF1 that everyone knows really well.

If you want people to search for duplicates, you’re going to have to insist that Anet makes a working search engine. Until then, duplicate threads are rampant and regular. And again, you cannot make me or other people post the way you’d like, or say things you’d like. It’s basic respect for other humans. I did want an answer. I got an answer. It was given by people who plainly stated it without being insulting or ordering me around. And they spent less time typing the simple answer than you did mistreating me.

As to incorrect information, care to tell me what is incorrect? I said the nodes move at different times from different events. What is incorrect about that? You should be aware that a server reboot is an event

The nodes aren’t moving because of events. Ancient saplings have nothing to do with events. Saying that they are moving because of events is spreading incorrect information. And generalizing any occurance as an event, when the term is already defined clearly in game to everyone who plays, doesn’t make it less false.

The topic is solved. Thanks to the people who came to offer their experience and information.

There have been other discussions on this in the past. The game is working as intended. Some rare nodes will move at different times from different events. There is no reason to worry about it or discuss it as it is normal, and has always been like this.
If the third party sites are incorrect, just tell them to get their act together as it is their problem and not GW2’s.

I read this as “You’re not allowed to talk. GW2 is perfect.” It wasn’t relevant or helpful to the thread at all, and supplied incorrect information. P.S. I will discuss whatever I feel like here in the general discussion forum.

@others Thanks for the info about the map resetting when no one is there. Since it is southsun, I guess that’s the reason. I hadn’t seen that celsodantas website before. I have been using gw2nodes mostly, with orrmaps the odd time. But they are all done by users supplying info, so they are all going to be incorrect whenever this kind of reset happens.

I’m talking rare nodes, like ancient saplings. The locations of many things are wrong on gw2nodes currently. That site does start clean after a reset, yet many things that used to be correct are greyed out and marked incorrect. It shows others have noticed it too.

I found a solution for the thief steal one at least. I went to PvP with a new character, went to the practice enemies and used steal on it. Got it without a problem.

Has anyone else noticed the rare nodes moving positions without a patch happening?

I’ve noticed it a few times but wasn’t certain. But then after the last update, I saw 2 ancient saplings, and when I came back a day later, they were gone. No used stump even. Today I looked again and they’re gone. There hasn’t been an update since.

Anyone else noticed this?

Doesn’t take more than one person to put up a couple of hundred thousand buy orders at 4c.

I removed a couple hundred buy orders today from months back. Clicking Remove over and over and over again took forever and made me wish I was watching Sally. Yes from the 90s.

The time it would take to do that is insane, as well as extremely lengthy. I’m sure you know if this was one person doing it that they used an automatic bidding management program. Is there any hope that these are going to be stopped? It makes me just want to leave the TP to the bots because I can’t compete.

Squishiest class, yet lacking block/evade?

I have experienced the stop-short bug with RTL. At first I thought it was because I hit an AoE and it stopped there (I remember reporting that tunneling wurms would crash into AoEs, in the same way). But it happens a lot on bosses. I dash towards them, from say a 700 range, I pause partway through (though the zap animation continues for the same duration while I stand in place), and then I come out of it without having hit the target. This doubles my cooldown, wastes the little damage I should have done, and when I use updraft at the end, it is out of range.

Another issue is how lag and rubber banding prevent the skill from connecting even when you reach the target. Happens most of the time when used in wvw. It’s quite broken there. And despite all efforts being made, and everything done right, we are still punished with double cooldown when using the skill as intended (not fleeing).

Another issue is how it can be fired backward. Many skills early on which were working when facing away from the enemy were changed to not work. RTL is one of the most necessary to make that change happen in, yet it was omitted. You can be running in PvE and get flung towards non-hostile enemies offscreen, way out of range, even at the bottom of a cliff, causing the skill to fire you to your death. I was desperate for that to be fixed a year ago and it still isn’t.

Another bug is how it randomly stops you at the end of the dash. Sometimes if you hold W, you’ll continue running at the end, other times you stop and are required to let go of the W and repress it in order to continue. This negates the point of the skill, which is to move forward as quickly as possible.

There are bugs also with targets moving. I’ve gotten trapped in walls and been zigzagged bizarrely to my death.

Lightning flash randomly doesn’t port you even when it appears you should(same with Renewal of Air). It can glitch out your animation. It can orient you in bizarre ways that cause you to move in a direction you didn’t want, which is another mobility negater.

Those are just the ones I have experienced.

Guild Boosts not working, queuing issues

We have had 5+ guild boosts active lately and right now only 1 is actually taking effect.

It is clearly shown in the Upgrade section that 5 are active right now, and the timers are counting down. Yet only one of those is shown in the tooltip when hovering over the guild icon.

Increased Gold for Kills for 24 Hours IS working
Magic Find for 3 days, Kill Exp for 24 hrs, Karma for 24 hrs, and Repair Cost for 24 hrs are all NOT working.

I can test the armor repair one by checking the repair price with the guild repped vs no rep, and it’s the same. It’s full price.

We lost a lot of Influence build time, merits, and the benefits of these boosts because of this bug.

Also, I am unable to queue another of some boosts that should be queuable.
We currently have none of the “24 hours” or “3 days” buffs build and ready to go. We have lots of merits and influence, that is not a barrier. So I went to queue new ones, but Magic FInd for 3 Days is greyed out.

I have triple checked, it is not in the list of built upgrades or in the Build Queue. It is one of the bugged active upgrades. But other bugged active upgrades are not giving the greyed-out issue.

I don’t think this is a bug. Some white items are not salvageable. They are the ones sold by armorsmiths in game. It was done so people couldn’t buy an endless supply of white items, salvage, and sell the mats for infinite profit. It would only be ones that have levels divisble by 5, as those are the increments of levels found at vendors.

I don’t know if it was always possible to get weapons from 10+ but it seems now that things are just scaled to be really unlikely but still possible at low levels. Which is a good thing, because it makes doing <20 not totally pointless for higher people, who are helping lowbies).

I noticed they always had a buy order of 4c and sell price of 6c, and huge stacks on each of those.

Today, the buy order is 2c. The demand went from about 950,000 to 184,000 in 6 hours.

I think it’s also noteworthy that the gap between prices I can sell my rares at and the price I can sell ectos at has gotten larger. It used to be a very close percentage, where it wasn’t any better to salvage than to sell. But lately rares are selling for 31s and ectos at 39.

There’s something telling about that, but what it is telling is up for discussion.

Each time I do a slew, I check to see if I’m above or below 0.9 ectos per. I did 20 with Mystic and got 14 ecto. Since then, I’ve been measuring the rate for each batch to see if it evens out, but every one has been under 0.9.

Guildies have been noticing it independently and asking if others have noticed a terrible ecto rate lately. I haven’t heard anyone say that in many months.

It doesn’t prove anything, but neither does saying “rng is rng” or “these threads happen all the time”.

Regular players don’t buy 1000 of an item at a time. It would only hurt the people that are trying to manipulate the market. Everyone else would be unaffected and fewer people would be kittened-over by the TP guilds.

Yeah I think Elemental Attunement is a must. I’ll spend however many points needed to get it.

I don’t use Evasive Arcana though. I’ve tried it twice because I hear it’s so great, but I just don’t find it that useful. I generally dodge away, not toward, and too many of them get wasted on red circles, not enemies.

It is my understanding that there are at least 2 types of tiers with fractals now. They used to be unified. But I’m confused.

I had read that the daily reward tiers were different now, like 1-10, 11-20 etc.

However agony starts at 10, and I’m assuming that level of agony goes from 10-19 (the old tier).

But I read in the wiki discussion page that someone got a fractal skin at lv 12. And 2 people told me they got an ascended ring from lv 10 in the last few days.

So does that mean that the “minimum level to get a ring” or skin, have changed? Is there a minimum anymore? Or is the old reward tier of “rings starting at 10” still active?

This happens in Toypocalypse too by the way. It makes you pretty useless for a long time until you can kill yourself.

Is everyone else doing right-click drag to move the camera while trying to pick up the bundle? I wonder if that’s part of why it happen.s

The fact that it happens in Toypocalypse, where there are only 5 players, makes it seem like a non-performance-based issue, and just a flukey timing bug.

It’s about similar functions not appearances. They didn’t want two skills that function almost exactly alike. PBAoE Blast finisher and PBAoE Blast finisher that heals, was too similar.

Warrior:
Endure Pain – Take no damage from attacks. You are still susceptible to conditions and crowd control effects.
Defiant Stance – Heal yourself. Absorb all incoming strikes for a period of time.

They’re both stances, they both cause no damage while active. One heals at the same time. It’s exactly like both arcanes blasting nearby enemies but one heals at the same time.

That can’t be the reason why they changed Arcane Wave, since they didn’t change Endure Pain. So what was the reason?

Popularity isn’t high on my list of priorities. I said it was my personal belief that limits like that should be in place to prevent abuse of the economy. If it was a fair sampling of players, it might be extremely popular.

The risk vs reward idea is more relevant if people are just predicting. The risk is very little if you take control of the market with a group of people acting together.

Hitting 1 over and over again in PvE for 30 mins gets you at most 1 world boss kill. You need to do a lot more than that to make any money, it requires movement, heals, 1+ attack skills, checking an external site/app, making sure you’ll get there in time, waypointing, making one’s way to the boss. No one can get 750g in 1 hr of work in any other aspect of the game unless they get a precursor drop.

And yes, there actually is a limit in PvE activities, called Diminishing Returns.

I do agree prices will not return any time soon if at all. Since there are no precursor armor pieces, we don’t even need to use exotics in the forge for something better.

It wasn’t a matter of people discovering they didn’t need that much gossamer. If you look at the spidy graph, and zoom it in to max detail, it shows it 22,700 buy orders were filled at the starting price of 8s94 and dropping it down to 5s93. This started at 12:15pm (right when the patch hit), and the near-vertical line crash ended at 1:00pm.

People sold massive amounts off ASAP. And it didn’t have a natural curve, the way it would if it was the whole community moving. I suspect it was a group of people, or a few groups who planned to sell as soon as the patch hit, and were just waiting to press the button.

Personally, I think there should be limits in place to prevent people from doing this kind of damage. Clicking Buy 100 times in November, and then clicking sell 100 times in December should not warrant a 750g reward.

The attunement recharge was never the reason I put points into Arcana. My build is the same pre-post patch. 20 air, 30 water, 20 arcana.

Until I can be survivable enough in other traits to give up either my condition cleanse synergy or my boons, I’m settling here. I don’t feel like I have much of a choice. I hate feeling like the liability to a party, and this build, while not helping the DPS at least saves me the embarrassment of getting picked up all the time.

Fast cast ground targetting is bad. It limits the things you can do with your hand by forcing you to hold that button. And it should be an option, where either works just as well, just depending on the user’s taste.

I also really dislike this change. Did anyone actually ask for this? It wasn’t broken or OP.

If the reasoning is that having a utility with a similar effect as one of the new heals, is that same reasoning not applied to other classes, like Endure Pain? Maybe that should have an arbitrary delay to make it different. Or maybe we should just leave unbroken things unfixed.

Ele has enough ground targetting. It feels exhausting in wvw trying to just get the target on the right pixel with FPS drops. Other classes don’t need to deal with this as much. This is the opposite direction that ele should be moving in in terms of quality of life.

As I wrote multiple times now, the WAYPOINT WAS NOT THERE, not when alive or when dead. I was dead and looking for anything to do to avoid getting kicked. I pressed M, clicked where the waypoint was, but nothing happened. The rest of the party didn’t have anything to click either.

However, the group I did it with today all could see the waypoint. So it seems to be a bug that happens to rare groups.

It just doesn’t show up on the map. Our party did it last night and no one could do anything once they died. The inactivity timer should be removed there as it logs the player out, preventing them from being rezzed between waves and getting rewards.

Once the party wiped, we returned to checkpoint and the waypoint appeared for a couple of seconds and then vanished again.

Yes, as I said I look at both the mini map and the big map.

There was no waypoint there for my whole party. I went in solo twice more and with 1 other person once, and never for anyone was a waypoint visible except for a couple of seconds after a party wipe.

I went in several times last night and the waypoint was not clickable in the mini or big map.

When the whole party wiped, I was ported to it, it appeared on the map for a moment and then vanished again.

So the bug must be in the rendering. Even double clicking on that area doesn’t activate the wp.

Is a bug.

There’s no waypoint. Only a “Retry from Checkpoint” button, which only appears if the whole party dies within 50 seconds of the first.

I have found this happens when picking up bundles on the ground. Especially in big fights. Like the karka eggs at Karka Queen, and repair hammers at Tequatl.

Skill stop working except instant skills. The only way I’ve found to fix it is to get downed and rally.

+1 reduce it. It’s so hard to get people to do it because it feels like the longest activity a group can do together. And there’s no way to predict how long it will take. Could be 45 mins, could be 3 hours.

People usually can’t allocate 3 hours to things, and don’t want to do 1 hour and let someone else finish and get their reward.

If you fall or get knocked off the platform in the FOTM molten boss fractal, sometimes you just die at the bottom instead of being ported in a downed state to the top.

I think if you land on lava, it will work. But if you land on the structure, you just die.

We had to use rez orbs to get back up down there, and then jump into the lava to get placed back into downed state at the top. Made the fight unnecessarily harder.

Also, the waves do not match up with the damage AoE. Just as with tequatl, you have to jump long before the wave comes. You can even land inside of it and take no damage. Mechanics like this should just be omitted if they can’t be done properly.

Something like that happened to us too. We just got kicked. We didn’t replace anyone, although someone did leave to repair armor and I thinkt hey were going to try to get an infusion by going in fractals solo to get to the vendor.

Then we were in the final boss fight and I think it was once everyone left combat we jsut got booted to Lion’s Arch. So incredibly frustrating, as we had been plugging away at it for a long time. Left people discouraged and some won’t do fractals again.

I think everyone is exaggerating about it being “extremely easy”. Yes, it’s nice that some people can do it using their feet to move their mouse. But for the average player, this is above-average difficulty.

When I first did it way back, I went down a couple of times (the duration was longer then I believe), and this time at lv 1 I didn’t. But in both cases, at least 2 others went down during cannons. Some classes have more vigor and endurance than others. Some have more swiftness, some have blocks, health, regen, armor, toughness. There’s more to it than just “I do it well so it’s easy and people who died shouldn’t count.”

It’s fine if that’s what their plan was. I just would have liked warning.

It’ll be even harder to get a fractal group now though, as we’ll have to escort lowbies up many times before they can do 11+. It feels like a lot of sacrifice for the higher level players to play with lower levels. I feel encouraged to say “sucks to the lower levels” and lump in with the elitist crowd. And the lower levels will just not bother doing fractals if they have to bumble through it without someone experienced. :/
