This is really annoying. I have fired it at point blank range for 10 seconds while an enemy is chomping me, and not one hit landed. It’s not every time or any specific enemy type. It has happened a lot to me with barracuda but also with other types. It just seems to think the enemy is higher than it is.

Clark Skinner.4902

Well we just did it again. We tried pulling from the corner and dragging him under the entrance. Some people died and we wiped. Lots of adds came and as we pulled him behind the pipe and towards the start, they flanked us from behind. And this was a 1500 range pull with everyone else & pets staying behind. Still couldn’t lose the adds, and we didn’t attack them while they chased.

Then we tried the same thing again and pulled them all to the corner under where the entrance is. We killed a couple of adds to get them away from us. Then Boss killed us.

Then we just decided to kill the 2 rows on Spur’s Left (from Spur’s perspective). Then we pulled him alone (no other adds followed him) into the corner and fought him there. Standing pretty close to him seemed to make the fight quite a bit easier. Then we killed the other half of the room’s mobs, pretty sure we got out of combat before engaging them. We got the achieve after killing the rest of his army.

It might be worth noting that we didn’t kill the 2 guys on the upper level. They were there when we finished the dungeon.

So we kind of did everything wrong and succeeded. What a buggy achieve. They should just give it to everyone to make up for all of the successful groups who weren’t rewarded.

Camera is manhandled by TA generators

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

In the Aetherpath, when someone walks near the generator, their camera flips around and I think it may warp them away from the generator a bit.

It can glitch out because depending on the angle you approached it, you can press forward, walk to it, get flipped around, and while still pressing forward you walk back into it, get flipped around and it repeats.

The character gets caught in a loop. And during the Oakheart fight, that’s the last thing we need.

I think it’s probably an effect from when the shield is around the generator, so that effect can be removed once the shield is down to fix this problem.

I tried a nightmare potion on an aetherblade inside the Aetherpath. It had no effect on damage using the same test as above.

Didn’t get to try on the final boss because I’m not nuts.

So unless my test was wrong, I think the theory that potions affect everything in the dungeon is out the window.

Clark Skinner.4902

I just tested on Aetherblades in the JP. I used ele scepter air 1 skill. The last 4 attacks do the same damage 4 times in a row. So I switched to Outlaw potions halfway through the attack, so the last 2 hits should have been 8% more damage.

36 damage
36 damage
36 damage <—- Potion in effect starting here
36 damage

Tried again switching to dredge potion halfway through

39 damage
39 damage
39 damage <—- outlaw potion replaced
39 damage

So at least in the JP, Aetherblades don’t count as outlaws for potion purposes.

Can’t test in the dungeon though since a group would be needed.

What about the people who say every enemy in a dungeon are affected by the dungeon’s potion?

And then there was the time at the start of CoF where I killed an Icebrood Goliath and got Ogre Slayer.

This is why we need someone who programmed the dungeon to clear this up. This is a part of the game we should be using strategically but it’s being wasted because of misinformation.

Do Nightmare Court slaying potions work on everything in there? Or is it Outlaw potions for the pirates?

People might actually use potions if you made this crystal clear for us.

Instant Trait Reset?

in Twilight Assault

Clark Skinner.4902

I once played a game that charged monthly for enemy health bars. I quickly quit.

Trait reset is also a feature that should be a core game element, out of combat. It’s not a good sign that they’re charging for it. Even worse, it guarantees that the suggestions by all of the people since launch to allow out-of-combat retraiting will never be implemented.

It only hurts the game, as changing one’s setup for the situation ahead adds strategy to the gaming experience. One build for all situations isn’t conducive to this new punishingly difficult direction Anet is heading with its new content.

I think 70 MF is a good break even point. If you plot on a graph the essence required to gain 1%, the curve approaches zero around 65-70 and from there and you spend a lot to get a little.

Salvage-o-matic is just a way to make it a much bigger expense than it already is. It takes skill to get MF up at minimal cost. Since essences aren’t affected by kit type, Crude kits are most cost effective. Optimally, finding a TP near a cultural weapon vendor for crude kits bought with karma is your best bet *cough*blackcitadel*cough*.

Aether lightning field's red circle

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Clark Skinner.4902

I could see in the twitch preview that this was still an issue.

The lightning field, which appears like an ele staff 5 field, appears to be friendly fire for a second before the red circle appears. Smart players will take this as a field to run into and use combo finishers. But the red circle appears late and smart players will get punished for no reason.

Also, since it is a different field than the elementalist one (it does damage standing inside), it should just have a different effect altogether. Maybe tint the lightning and place a glow on the ground to show that it is part of the effect area too.

i get about 10 luck (one blue one) per salvage. So in 300 salvages, that would be 3000 luck. The point where it takes 3000 luck to get an extra percent is at 89%.

Don’t forget to count the cost of the mystic kits. A forge stone can be counted as the value of a rare in calculations.

You could count the value of returned items by counting the t5 and t6 mats in a given batch, as well as sigils/runes. Don’t forget tax fees if you are selling stuff on the TP.

It happens when you do anything that would count as an attack while harvesting. Any instant skills (even just a blind) or arcane shield’s explosion will count and ruin any mats. Perhaps retaliation will do it while you’re being attacked. Maybe one of the “5% chance on hit” runes. Could be a trait.

It’s definitely not a random chance, as I have learned the things in my build that used to cause it and stopped doing them, and have never had a ruined mat since.

Before releasing the new TA

in Living World

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

please fix the targetting bug

It is most irritating in TA with the blooms that are killed but remain targettable and attackable. They still have a health bar and there’s no way to know if you’re wasting your attacks on an object that is dead, not to mention that the attacks don’t explode/bounce to other objects, and Tab targetting is like spinning a wheel of fortune.

It happens on many objects and some creatures with death animations, and was introduced with a patch, so it should be possible to revert.

I will be sure to rage heartily on the forums if you release the new TA with this months-old and acknowledged bug still in play. And you won’t be able to say I didn’t warn ya!

Not getting rewards at the end

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

Every time I do it, I hear of people who didn’t get a reward. Then people say something about a bug where only 50 people can get a reward (which is stupid if true, as the event is meant for 80+).

I figured it was because they had already done it for the day, until it happened to me. I was a participant for the entire thing, doing different activities and it was just after reset time. The rewards are already a paltry insult, but no reward at all is just unacceptable for the time it takes to get into the home server and wait and attempt and co-ordinate.

I feel like everyone who has done more than a couple of these is owed something big.

Shockwave graphic is behind danger zone

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

I did this on a really low overflow just now and got to actually see the shockwaves.

It doesn’t even give you the chance to jump over the visual part of the wave. The knockback hits you before the visual part does. So you can jump ahead of time and land halfway inside of the wave for 0 damage.

You could say it’s something people should learn but really graphics should indicate where the danger is, and I think the solution is to match them up and be intuitive for players.

Annoying loss of target

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

Yeah the camera issues are the problem. It resets the camera mutliple times throughout the fight and you have to zoom out repeatedly. And also there’s a change where targetting only works if your character is facing it, which is new to this patch.

I can’t target tequatl with Ctrl+T at all.

And when on turrets, you turn when using a cleans on your own turret and that messes everything up. Same as when you get yanked off or downed.

Problem with floating chests

in Tequatl Rising

Clark Skinner.4902

Since this event gives 4 floating chests..

The wiki says it will display 3 chests max and a 4th one will be queued. But beyond that, any chests will be deleted.

So if you start out with a floating chest (say an achievement chest and you havent’ decided on a skin), or if you get your daily at the same time, wouldn’t one of the chests get deleted?

The "Please, DON'T nerf" topic.

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

please don’t listen to the people asking for a nerf when they didn’t even try to stop that kitten autoattack, plug the brain and think about alternative ways to face him.

No one in the game has attempted just standing and autoattacking for this event. You’ll do better in your argument if you accurately portray the opponents.

Everyone has tried new strategies, everyone has fought hard. Some still don’t enjoy it. Some don’t feel this is the game for this kind of content. Others feel that there are too many problems in implementation that make this a bad idea.

Both sides have a point.

Content requiring 3rd party software

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

There’s still communication that’s dependant on timing, which will not be helped by knowing your role. You can’t let people know you need a cleanse or find out which areas are getting overwhelmed without voice chat.

I said I also didn’t think there was anything wrong with voice chat. I said the difficulty shouldn’t be decided assuming the server is using a voice chat.

And other games have nothing to do with guild wars 2. Comparing Peg A to Peg B doesn’t change that Peg A doesn’t fit into Slot A.

Content requiring 3rd party software

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

The only reason our server could have possibly succeeded at this was that we have a server-wide voice chat program. No one can type out messages directed at certain areas of the map, and most can’t afford the visual distraction of looking at their chat window. Communication between the turrets and front line is a necessity for this to succeed.

Unless I’m mistaken, that means that this content is impossible to complete without third-party voice chat software.

Personally, I think designing content requiring something outside of the game is unwise and unreasonable. I would vote against this in future content releases. The difficulty should be such that the majority of the player base trying their best and communicating via in-game means will succeed. Voice chat should be for people going the extra distance to make communication better.

I’m not saying voice chat is bad, I love it, but content shouldn’t be requiring anything outside the game to be completed, at least without including it in the system requirements of Guild Wars 2.

Petition to raise map population!

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

Higher pop = worse performance and people getting disconnected

It’s not the solution. I don’t know what the solution is though, since people need to play together to succeed here. And overflows will just not work because voice chat is a requirement.

I think content can’t be this hard when those problems exist. If Anet can figure out a cure for the terrible performance/lag/DC and overflow problems, then content this hard is reasonable, but until then, the players shouldn’t be put through so much frustration by having new content that is at agonizing difficulty.

Stop adjusting my camera!

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

I have to adjust my camera so many times during this event. It happens when you get downed (you zoom in super close), and at other times I haven’t mentally noted, and when manning turrets as well. Often I don’t have the attention to remember to zoom out until I’ve just been hit with something and wonder what just hit me.

Can’t we just make the camera retain it’s max zoom in all of these cases so it doesn’t keep changing? Turret cameras have been really un-user friendly since always. Making them not snap would be a good help against Tequatl, without nerfing the event.

3 Problems and 2 Solutions of the new Tequatl

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

AFKers are still a problem with scaling. Dead players too. IMHO that is a fundemental problem that needs fixing. The overflow problems encourage players to linger, which curses the next event.

You can’t really blame people for wanting to stay as it’s very hard to get into local servers. So the solution has to be to make their Akitteng not affect the event. This can of course be done, since there are AFK counters already in place.

Is it intentional?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

When attacking Teq from the turrets, every shot was hitting the fingers instead of the dragon.

I had my party break the fingers when they could manage it but they respawn a lot, and absorb every attack aimed at Teq.

It seems odd that such a thin thing would absorb every hit, and the turret does very little to break them.

This was on the far west turret btw.

I’m not sure if this was an intentional mechanic or a bug for this turret alone. Has anyone paid attention to where their attacks hit on other turrets?

Needs a nerf

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902

Clark Skinner.4902

I have to agree. 4 attempts and we’re only getting a few percent better each time. The learning curve is flattening out. I can understand not wanting to release soemthing too easy and then making it harder. It makes sense to ease up once they see how it goes when the patch is live.

I tried to talk strategy before each attempt, and I talked to others about how to learn after each attempt, but it isn’t working. The event should take into consideration human nature, and not expect human nature to adapt to the requirements of the event. Each map will have newbs and we can’t control them, as hard as we try. Nor can we control people who are unwilling to WP or those rezzing defeated. Those of us that are doing it right are meeting the same loss as those doing it wrong. That’s why we can’t have challenging things.

I am going to wait for a nerf before trying again. Either uncontest the waypoint or reduce health.

Lots of people say dead players (who don’t waypoint) scale the event up and make it harder for the living to defeat. Some say that’s a bunch of fooey.
