I’m pretty amazed how tight they are with glory at this point. Boosters don’t even help.
The pvp part of gw2 is so limited, I don’t know how people get ranks above 20 without getting bored.
Agree with OP so much. One of my worst experiences in this game since launch was trying to get that Monthly.
The reward is 5 salvage kids, boosters and tournament tickets. It’s really not worth the nightmare of trying this as a pug group.
I think I needed to do 14 attempts to get 3 victories, and even when we did have a match with pug groups, we were outnumbered because not everyone entered the tournament when called.
Remove it from monthly or change to 5 tournaments participated please!
Disagree with point 2. it may make sense, but given the game mechanics, it would never be possible to hit a thief with anything channeled if this didn’t happen exactly the way it does.
So your supporting why the game should be holding your hand , great. You see I actually like to play the game, I’d rather not have the game play itself for me. If that’s the case I might as well go watch a movie because that is something I know I’m not involved in whatsoever. As long as any game continues to do hold your hand, and reward you for things you should not be rewarded for. Then it will never reach it’s potential to be a great game.
Well that was condescending. Did you make the topic for discussion or to hate on people who disagree with you? If the second, it’s against the rules and should be deleted. If the first, then you should be glad to hear the experience of others.
It seems like a big easy way to grief other players by taking away their kill. But it’s too obvious to be a mistake.
Why did they design it like that??
check it
has a change been made?
I like downed state. It makes more sense that you don’t operate at full capacity right up until the moment you drop dead.
I think finishers are stupid though, as you could be healed to 99% and an ally could be healing you or attacking them but they still can wipe you out. I’d love finishers to only be available when your health is like 25% or lower.
I decided last night that I have a lot less fun in bigger teams. Am going to go into smaller ones for now on.
Well for scepter/dagger there’s not really any improvement. Most of what they improve every time is dagger mainhand. And lots of traits which I don’t use are in the patch notes. Some totally useless ones into adequate ones, but I’ll still not use them.
Really, very little has changed for me except for the might trait.
If the losing team lost the first round by a lot they wouldn’t even try for the next 2 rounds. Currently, if you lose the first round, you are spared from future rounds against harder teams.
Personally, as a solo amateur-intermediate sPvPer, I’m pretty much going to lose every tournament match unless I’m with a full group of people like me. Having to play 3 times for last place is a big turnoff.
Good to get the thoughts of those more experienced than I.
Though I have just started pvp this last month, I am not loaded up on bags, and now that they are out of chests, I won’t be. But I guess there’s nothing else I’ll spend glory on.
Since I can’t see all of them, and the info isn’t posted yet, can someone with a high rank list the bag prices at the vendors?
10-slot and higher in particular since those are the ones not visible to everyone.
Even when I am not in a fight, there’s too much to look at.
Dec 14 update:
•Items: Improved the drop tables for PvP rank chests by removing bags, and added bags as purchasable glory items.
How do you feel about this?
Personally, what I look forward to most from chests is bags. Armor skins in PvP don’t appeal to me, as I don’t think anyone has time to notice what I’m wearing, including me. The bags aren’t 20-slot but they are better than what my alts have, and save me a bit of money.
Are the drop tables improved for you?
Why not just make it so people can only enter a match if:
a) there’s an odd number of players, or
b) there’s an even number of players a second player is entering the match with them for the other teams
Especially the case for low numbers, where 2 v 1 is impossible to win.
And for tournaments:
Make it so it doesn’t start until all spots are filled on each team. So many times I’ve tried and people won’t warp into the tournament, and because we are outmanned, we have little chance. There needs to be a way to still let someone new in if the original team isn’t complete.
Disagree with point 2. it may make sense, but given the game mechanics, it would never be possible to hit a thief with anything channeled if this didn’t happen exactly the way it does.
At the end of a match, a lot is happening.
I’m usually in a fight, and a screen pops up, disorenting me, and I have to look up to see if I am on the winning team, then there is the score table, all of the ranks appear, the stats on the bottom, daily achievements show up, chests show up, purple trophies show up.
I’m trying to just notice every thing that appears when we get pulled into the next match and it’s all gone.
Often I’m involved in a good duel at the end and don’t even know if my team won or not.
Could we get a way to show all of that information longer, or after the match even?
I used to be like that. Enjoying a rank up when it happened.
But then I got to rank 8. Rank 9 to 10 is taking forever. PvP isn’t well-developed enough for me to stick around long enough to get through the next set of 10 ranks.
Every ele update seems to be centered around fixing/buffing D/D. Since I don’t like them, ele is pretty much nerfed every patch. With other classes getting buffed so much, I’m being left in their dust unless i switch to this not-very-respected bunker build I always hear about.
And also, the description of ele says they are meant for support and flexibility. How is that meant do do well in PvP? There are rarely crowds to use AoE on. Being able to switch from vulnerability to a might strategy (trading one for the other) doesn’t make us stronger against another player that is specialized. Jack of all trades is useless in places like this.
And ele has a hard time with enemy boons and conditions too, unless they give up their utility slots, in which case they have a hard time with everything else.
I have to say I love this activity. It’s what a minigame truly is to me. A side activity that you don’t HAVE to do, you can jump right in, it’s relaxing not infuriating like a jumping puzzle, it’s a lot different from the rest of the game.
The lag issue is annoying but not a huge deal. I’ve gotten perfect 3 times around the laggy rounds. And you don’t need perfection to get max reward. Interesting that the lag hits everyone at the same time…
Anyway, I have 2 points. 1) You either get 2 or 4 gifts. I can’t figure out how you get either of those. It doesn’t seem to be based on score, though a bad lag will knock you down to 2. How does it work?
2) There’s a PvP rank bar at the bottom of the screen, which makes it seem like you should be getting Glory. Also, when you’re top scorer in Notes Played, you get a glory trophy above your minimap. Yet not a thing in Pvp achievements/glory changes. Was this meant to give glory points?
I didn’t know every other class got speed buffs. I’m guessing it is a response to wanting mounts.
As an ele, our signet used to give 10% speed, and I never ever used it. Now it gives 25%. Still never going to use it as I really only have 1 utility that I can swap around(the other two are MUST HAVES), and the speed is far from the top of the list. I basically only use it if I’m gathering.
I was initially happy to see some improvements to ele, but it looks like it’s behind the curve in terms of buffs because all classes were, some more than others.
My Guardian is lv 20 and when I first started using greatsword I laughed at how god-mode it felt. Seeing the improvements here left me mildly feeling disbelief.
I tested fire gm trait , you can pretty much walk around with 20+ stacks of might with and I have gotten it up to close to 30 stacks in a very short time in a fight.
riiiiight. The max number of stacks is 25.
Why didn’t they increase Armor of Earth’s duration to match the description? It seems to only get changed for the worse.
Please release updates more frequently than once a month. The thought of having to stand and get killed waiting for my main attack skill to drop down on the enemy for another month makes me think “maybe this isn’t the right game for me”. And I “stand and get killed” because I’m not allowed to dodge or mist form or the attack will do no damage.
I try to get my guild to attempt dungeons, it’s not easy. When we do one and spend an hour getting wiped repeatedly, at least 1 will quit. I’ll never get them back into that dungeon again. It leaves a very depressing aftertaste.
Paths like AC3, SE1 feel like they are designed exclusively for hardcore players. I have learned that I have to go online to see if we even have a chance at a dungeon before attempting it, as well as learning the mystery strategy to complete it.
The Wintersday dungeon in the grove has pretty bad rewards to be honest. After a couple of attempts my guildies just didn’t want to do it anymore because 1 sweater and 1 gift in the chest was easily gotten anywhere else in the game for a fraction of the time. And the DR on the pop up reward is even less motivating.
well we were trying aoe but everything had insane health or regen and wasn’t dying.
I watched a video online and it was quite unreasonable what players are expected to intuit about the dungeon, as the mechanics are different from PvE in terms of how far they follow/notice.
How is a player supposed to know they they respawn endlessly?
How is a player supposed to know how often each wave comes?
How are they supposed to know that Inquest can’t see a bunch of people standing on a ledge in front of them?
How are they supposed to know that they won’t patrol back and ambush?
How are they supposed to know to skip that dialogue part?
Why would it be designed that we miss the story in order to rush back to the ledge?
How are they supposed to know that only the boss should be attacked?
How are they supposed to know that that stops further waves?
How are they supposed to know that you should rush forward, killing turrets and leaving those attacking them alone?
If a dungeon absolutely requires players to go online and learn a strategy, there is something wrong with its design.
Of course a safe is easy to unlock if you know the code. But expecting players to intuit this code from no clues is silly.
My group JUST tried this for the first time and lost about 20s each in armor costs before giving up.
Finding a strategy guide online wasn’t any help because the tips were not helping us.
Would have been nice to know it was broken.
I am only concerned with getting my monthly. I’ve been avoiding fractals because of this issue and want to be able to do it before January.
Hate to rain on the parade, but have you seen the updates to other classes? Increased damage and combos all around.
By comparison, our few improvements have left us pretty weak.
And that part about thieves being frail but in return they get the highest burst damage. Hello! Elementalists have the same HP but with Light Armor! We’re more frail, and have worse DPS. If AoE is our strength, we’re useless in PvP duels, and considering they’re going to reduce AoE further in PvP, it doesn’t look good.
oh i see now. saying “sometime today PST” = “our deadline is 11:59pm PST”
Well that is actually helpful as it means it’s not coming any time soon, so I can do other stuff first.
Why do you keep saying “sometime today, Pacific Time”?
Is that a hint that the patch will be ready at Sometime+3hrs EST?
Nothing positive for the weapon sets I use. Buffs to the conjure and dagger mainhand, as always.
I feel like (maybe with all classes) they’re trying to make them ever so slightly weaker with each patch. The more desperate we are in battle, the more willing we will try for ascended or gem store items.
I really don’t like the Dragon’s Tooth changes.
It’s near impossible to get it into a combo field because it’s not targetted. I liked it better when I would cast it from a combo field, then I had some control over it.
It also needs fixing so it does damage when the caster has dodged/mist form/dazed/knockeddown/downed. It’s hard enough to get the opponent to stand still underneath it, and for it to do no damage when it drops is just sad. Dealing with this bug also has me putting myself in bad situations trying to stand still until it lands instead of dodging.
And RTL not firing me backwards is another change I’d love to see.
I’d love to have the 2 extra weapon slots just so that i don’t have to switch in the hero panel and have my dagger getting mixed in with my looted equipment when switching to staff.
Not sure if that’s a bug as it’s not a targetted spell. Pretty harmless as it never actually hits anyone anyway.
I think if Anet gets around to it, they’ll nerf the lightning flash + churning earth skill.
As for the Glyphs in mist form. The elemental elite works for me, but I do have points in Arcane, which makes attunement bonuses linger after switching, which should make them last through mist form. I wish I could change attunes while in mist form though, as I’d like to set up my next attacks.
The Arcane trait that causes an effect on dodge based on attunement, I can’t remember its name.. When the Churning Earth version pops, it doesn’t do any bleed damage, just the initial hit.
A company I used to work for had a motto “Under-promise, over-deliver”. That way customers would never be let down, and sometimes they would be impressed.
It would make the player base happier if you completed these updates in advance and announced a date you were absolutely sure you’d make. If you announced the patch to be the 15th and events starting the 16th, no one would complain about wasted time, and you’d be ready to release it early.
Pictures of animals don’t affect me.
I have wasted 2 hours in Lion’s Arch. Can you at least say “not for another 3 hours at least”, so we know we have time to do a dungeon or a tournament or something?
Thanks for telling everyone what you think their options are. I’m sure we’ll all change our mindset now.
Actually no, it had no effect as I still feel like there are lots of ways they haven’t tried to deal with botters.
And joining in with bad behaviour is lack of integrity by definition. Most of us prefer our integrity to gaining video game currency easier.
I’m sick of people who use “QQing”.
Strangely I never see anyone express this kind of sentiment to another person’s face.
“You can’t catch me, I’m an elementalist in Air attunement. All I have to do is Ride the Lightning and i’ll shoot forw—- waaait no fair!”
But they’re all in China. How many people in China actually play gw2?
They could compare the account info to the IP address and if the IP is in China and the country in the account info is in the USA, ban ban ban, the ban is the word.
—typical defensive insult by person who is still playing, akin to ‘you can’t fire me, i quit’…. goes here—
Can’t they ban the IP range of the botters?
So we know if a certain rune set works now, so we know if a skill is working, so we know if a trait is working, so we know we can go back to that map and complete it, so we know a certain recipe will produce the right item before we craft it….
“C’mon, there’s only 1 wolf.”
We’re going to need a list of these bugs that were fixed.
(not asking about exploits, just the bugs)
I think this was including that big bot ban they did before Lost Shores and for some reason the update was given now. Bots have resurged since and it’s not great timing to post the Mission Accomplished^ announcement about having beaten them.
They are a lot harder to spot now and even harder to report.
Providing too many details is slightly ruining events for me
in Wintersday
Posted by: Clark Skinner.4902
I don’t want spoilers but i’m worried everyone else got hints on what is going to be in demand and will buy up 2000 of every wintersday item and when I let the story unfold, prices would be sky high. I’d prefer they kept it tight-lipped until the event starts, and to avoid confusion, provide very CLEAR and CONCISE info in-game about what activities there are.
But that ranger attack is one long string of 1 attack, right? It baffles me that a weapon that is realistically the hardest to target of all weapons is an auto-curve-to-definitely-hit weapon. Especially at the speed at which these arrows fire off.
Tab only works if you’re facing where the thief reappears, and are often turning the camera to look everywhere to catch that tiny window to attempt a target skill. And often the targetting will switch to a freakin moa in the distance that is more of a hinderance when your true target does reappear.
I remember this bugging me on the 3rd day of pre-launch and I thought “god I can’t wait for them to fix this”. I can’t say how many times I’ve shouted at my screen “HOLY COW SHUT UP ALREADY!!”. It’s so kitten grating. I want to stab the Asura by the tailor station in LA.
And that robot at the caledon forest crafting stations with its terribly-told jokes over and over. A bad joke repeated is torture.
Stop abusing the report feature. They’re not botting, if they were botting, they’d be out killing stuff, not idling in a city.
Actually I have seen an honest-to-goodness obvious bot in LA at the trading post. Cycling through all of the skills repetitively on and on, overnight and into the morning. I reported it here and it was gone later that day.
But that wasn’t just 1 skill on auto-cast, that was the full complement of them.
Botting the TP… sucks thinking some of the undercuts we’re enduring are from bots. And there are bot spammers in the city too remember.
A couple of days ago, Anet told me “if you ever run into any other players in-game you feel are botting or exploiting in any way, you are free to send the report”. The onus of proof isn’t on the person reporting. Anet will be able to tell and it’s better to report just to be sure.
Also, turning off dialogue audio has resulted in me missing parts of story mode because I couldn’t change the option back while in a cutscene. The put the audio in on purpose and to just turn the sound off is wasting all of the good sounds.
it basically splintered the community pretty hard too soon and forced people into running on the FotM treadmill for fear of being left behind.
You used to be able to log in and have fun at 80 running around farming in Orr. Once FotM dropped its a ghost town, so new 80s cant really get group events done there since no one is there they are all in LA waiting for fractal groups.
THIS. I feel so strongly about this. I took my time with this game. Put in lots of hours but I read the NPC dialogue, didn’t rush, walked to most places, enjoyed things as I went. I had faith that the path ahead of me would still be there when I reached the end, so I let everyone rush past me and burn out.
But I was stupid, as so many things were taken advantage of by those people and subsequently removed or nerfed. So now when I am reaching them (at a pace that Anet would be happier with), I am being punished with DR, untradeable karma items, longer timers, lower population, dungeon shortcuts removed, higher gem price, much difficulty finding a place to make a profit in trading (as others have found all ways to make money).
I barely cracked Malchor’s Leap and can’t get any further because no one at that level is doing anything other than Fractals.
