Enough with the zergs already...

I thought the small instances in the tower of nightmares was a nice idea (the chambers) – especially as it was much easier for a Zerg to run up the tower so it was nice to break off and party up with friends or even solo a chamber if you fancied a break. They were a little visually repetitive as every chamber looked the same, but I still enjoyed them a lot.
I think it would have been kind of fun to have something like that with this update too. Maybe you could speak to a certain Npc in one of the camps and volunteer as a solo player or with a party to go on a mission to rescue civilians who were trapped in an instanced area, like in the sewers or even in a sunken building or something. It would make sense that you’d only need a small team to rescue people from a small area.
I guess from a story point of view it would seem a little odd to have the airship just hanging out in a cave within easy walking distance of the rest of Scarlet’s Air Force. Leaving the cargo floating all over the cave does make it seem a bit more of a bug though.
I tried jumping on the ship and noticed it was gone and not just invisible, too. Has anyone tried using a jump skill to try and cross the cargo? It looks pretty solid to me but I don’t know how to get up there.
The original GW1 had dwarves as one of the main races of Tyria, but I think there’s only one in the modern world. Here’s my thought…if Scarlet’s massive airship drills down far enough into the ruins of old Lion’s Arch, do you think she might discover the lost race?
If I remember correctly the dwarves underwent a physical change in the original story so I think they could have survived down there for centuries.
I think it would be great to have the dwarves back. The lore is already there and the number of times I’ve heard ‘By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!’ implies that they’ve not been totally forgotten by Tyrians.
Anyone else think this could be a possibility?
A little over a year ago a giant karka showed up in Lion’s Arch and players had to fight it off – the trial run for LS. I remember after that event Arenanet invited everyone to fill in online feedback forms. The forms were simple to complete (ranking things on a scale of 1-10 etc) and I imagine that the data was easy to analyse.
It’s almost the start of a new year and I think it would be a great time to collect some thoughts on how people feel about the living story now. I think this would benefit everyone:
- Players will feel like their opinions are appreciated and will ultimately find the living story contains more of the things that they like and less of the things they don’t like.
- Story writers and developers will have a clearer picture of what has worked the best and what could be improved. This might make their jobs easier.
- Arenanet staff in general…I’ve seen so many complaints on this forum recently that it must be quite demoralising for the people who spend hours working on the material. A lot of the threads are about the same issues that could easily be fixed.
Some people might disagree with me, but I think that offering a survey is one of the best ways to get an overview of exactly where the problems are and what keeps people playing the LS. We already have forums to voice our ideas and complaints, but a multiple choice questionnaire would allow thousands of people’s opinions to be collected quickly.
Anyone else up for another feedback questionnaire?
The spinners are still broken even after the large update. There are so many different threads on forum about the puzzle, too. Maybe Arenanet would pay more attention if all the posts were under one thread…
Please fix the problem soon!!!
We helped Kiel to settle a trade agreement with the zephyr sanctum so she could win a seat on the pirate council, right? So, have the zephyrites just abandoned the agreement or will they be coming back soon?
The zephyr sanctum was my favourite part of the living story so far. It was beautiful, added some new elements (no pun intended) to the way players could travel around the area and the zephyrite npcs seemed fleshed out enough with their culture/back stories to make them interesting. Even if the sanctum isn’t ready to return yet, I’d be happy with just the lower labyrinthine cliff section back as a place to practice sanctum sprint skills.
I imagine my next suggestion might be unpopular, but I’ll suggest it anyway…
I think it would also be useful to have at least one node to harvest quartz from at the cliffs. Not to undermine the home instance nodes, but even when I harvest mine I usually only get 3 – 5 crystals. Having one other node for everyone would help new players who only have the access to quartz through the trading post (and it’s not cheap) and would still give players with quartz in their home instance a significant advantage as they would be able to harvest at least twice as much – the home instance could always be tweaked to provide more if necessary.
What do you think?
Thanks for the replies! I decided not to use the website because I’m still not 100% certain that it’s secure. Even if it doesn’t ask for a specific bank name, I think that a criminal could do a lot of damage with a name, address, date of birth and partial credit card number. Paypal was a good suggestion – I’ll try an alternate payment method.
I tried to purchase gems and was unable to complete the purchase without confirming my identity so I followed the link provided in the onscreen error message and it took me here:
https://guildwars2.zendesk.com/anonymous_requests/new
It’s asking for a lot of my bank details for a helpdesk and has ‘zendesk’ in the address? Is this site legitimate? I don’t want to have money stolen or my account hacked!
I had a problem with buying gems a few months ago (same thing about confirming my identity) and the website I was directed to that time set off all the security alerts on Internet explorer. I didn’t do anything, but the next day I could buy gems again as normal so it seems like I didn’t have to confirm my identity in the end. I’ve waited a day this time and still have the same problem, though.
Can anyone help me? I really want to buy some gems for the logging axe….
Until the problem is fixed, if you really want to do the puzzle you can stock up on teleportation guns in timberline falls and use them instead of the spinners. Best of all, you can take others along with you as the guns leave a sort of portal. You still have to do the puzzle as normal, but it’s not too much harder using the guns.
It’s also possible to reach the diving platforms using this technique. I did it earlier by jumping from the rocks to the first spinner, teleporting to the second and jumping onto the pole that sticks out at the front of the diving platform section. I would definitely recommend bringing some friends (especially mesmers) along to revive/portal you if you miss.
Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon. I think this is one of the harder jumping puzzles in the game, but teleportation guns make it even more extreme. If you make it to the top successfully, you’re probably ready to take part in takeshi’s castle.
I tried to buy some gems from the gem store which I’ve done several times before, but after I clicked confirm I got a message saying that I have to authenticate my identity at the support website. It had a link which I followed, but the webpage set loads of red warnings off on internet explorer because the security certificate was bad.
It seems like a scam? I clicked the link so I’m really worried that someone will get my bank details from it. Can anyone tell me if it’s actually an authentic Anet page? I’ve never had problems buying gems in the past.
_______
While writing this message I went to the gem store again to take a screenshot and now it is letting me purchase gems like normal. The only difference is that I was in SAB the first time and I am in Rata Sum now. Same question though, is my bank information safe?
I agree. It’s nice to see so many Anet responses to the topics in the bug section today. Thanks Josh!
Same problem…I guess I won’t be getting the daily achievements today.
Since the patch on Wednesday the steam and fire has become invisible in the ‘not so secret’ jumping puzzle. It still causes damage, but now it’s hard to dodge because it has no visual or audio cue.
It doesn’t prevent people from completing the puzzle, but it is kind of unsettling to have your character burst into flames for no apparent reason.
I’m not sure if it’s a problem on other servers or not. I’m on Aurora Glade.
I think the point of having rewards for completing achievements was to get people to try some new things. The scroll is useful for people (like me) who want to try out new characters professions.
I’ve got over 5,500 points, but I’ve pretty much only played as a ranger. Having the option to raise one of my long forgotten alts to level 20 is great – they can instantly use traits, have two weapons and a couple of extra skills slots. I’m motivated to try and learn how to play them if I can check out more than just the weapon skills.
It was a nice freebie
I’m not great at jumping puzzles either, but there were a lot of helpful people on all of them when I tried so they weren’t that bad. I’m on Aurora Glade where the population is quite high. If you’re on a less populated server, it would be harder. You could always guest maybe?
I had trouble in Spekk’s Lab between the second and third station because I’m too slow to make it to the end. I made it by stopping on the cliff face and getting someone back at station two to restart the console for me. You might luck out and get a Mesmer who can portal you up, too.
I think it’s worth getting the quartz node. And you can get charged ones from the home node because I got one yesterday from mine.
(edited by CoffeeMakesMeSmile.8172)
With the quartz nodes available to unlock for our home areas, maybe we’ll see more customization there as well. It could also be an option to have cut scene/memory items available in our home instance, too. It could be a bit like the bobble heads or snow globes in Fallout 3.
Ah – another player has helped me. The problem seems to be caused by asking the NPC to explain the game before you try to go to the mini game. If you just ask him to take you there straight away, it works properly.
It’s still a bug, but at least I can access the sprint area now.
Thanks! I managed to get to the sprint.
Every time I try to go to Sanctum sprint the game teleports me into a PvP match in the mists! I can’t complete half of the achievements because I can’t even access the mini game area.
I’m playing a level 22 Mesmer on the Aurora Glade server, but the problem doesn’t seem to affect anyone else on my sever. Can someone please fix the problem.
Marjory’s journal/Zephyr Sactum model: Items that allow us to view past cut scenes are a great idea, but it’d be nice to have a space to store them in the collectible section of the bank.
They’re not practical items, but they are collectible memories – you could add a ‘Scrapbook’ section under the minis or something.
It’s hard to find information about events and guilds for a specific server because the forums mix them all together. All you’d need to do is add some subfolders. You could put all the existing posts into a general folder called ‘Mixed’ or something.
It would help a lot because people don’t always put the server name in the post title due to the 45 character word limit.
A norn/human hybrid doesn’t sound like a bad idea as they look fairly similar. Not too sure I’d ever want to see an asura/charr hybrid, though.
Maybe if Lion’s Arch can establish trading ties with the ship it’ll come back at regular intervals in the future… I hope that’s what happens.
This is by far my favourite part of the living story. It reminds me a lot of Cantha and the treasure hunt aspect is really fun. I really hope some of the other concept art get turned into larger wallpaper sized files. There are several that I like.
I’m terrible at jumping puzzles, but I think a lot of the sky crystals can be reached with simple jumps once you’ve figured out a good path. It’s like a giant logic puzzle Good work Anet!
Every time I talk to the guy he sends me into battle in PvP. The first time I ported into a match on the new map so I thought it was working correctly, but I’ve also been sent to Spiritwatch and other PvP maps. He mentions collecting crystals, but I didn’t see any while I was playing.
Is this supposed to happen? I’m on Aurora Glade. Anyone else having the same problem?

I think a few people in this thread have had that problem. I’m guessing that the Arenanet team who normally answer questions on the forums don’t work at the weekend. That would explain the lack of communication. <sigh>
I think there are some pretty major connection issues at the moment. I’m sure there will be an update pretty soon to fix that. Hopefully the achievements will get fixed when the next patch comes out, too.
To avoid confusion, does this ceremony start at a specific time and do I have to be at a certain place to get the achievement? Is the achievement completed after watching the whole event or just for being there for part of it?
Also, will the effigy lighting actually take place at the start time or will it be linked to the daytime/night time server clock? I don’t mind not seeing the fireworks, but flaming dragon effigies sound like quite a sight, it’d be a shame to be AFK for it.

The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.
Why dawn? I guess most people would expect a firework to happen at dusk.
It makes total sense to me that the fireworks take place at dawn.
This way, when you’re adventuring anywhere in Tyria, and night falls, you know that you have 35 minutes to get your kitten to LA.
If the fireworks happened at dusk, there would be a 70 minute daytime window to cover.
This way it is much easier to time, without having to sit in LA for over an hour.
I think that was pretty thoughtful of the devs.
I don’t think that would work anyway. Just because it’s approaching dawn in another part of Tyria doesn’t mean that it’ll be the same time of day on the Lion’s Arch server. And the odds are even worse if you end up on an overflow server (which is quite likely).

It’ll be interesting to see what Arenanet’s response is to this problem. The whole event has been pretty glitch, so hopefully they’ll at least put out an apology – even if it’s just for the lack of information about timings of the event.
I suppose it’s not that important an issue that anyone will be fired, but they should definitely think more about how to make the game enjoyable from the players’ point of view.

Finally!!!!! I had to wait over an hour and 20 minutes, but eventually I got my achievement. No words can express my relief that it didn’t crash or disconnect while I was waiting.
I’m trying patience, too. I’ve been waiting for an hour now. Sigh.
I guess half of the problem is the lack of information from the devs. I didn’t realize it was supposed to start at dawn. They should hire a better team to release the information. There was a problem with the info they released about the karka queen, too.
Well, hopefully we’ll get some sort of bonus to smooth things over. I love the game, but my confidence in Arenanet is not too high right now. I hope I still love it in a few months.

It’s only just starting to get dark on the overflow I’m on. If a day is 70 mins I think I’m going to have to hang around for at least another half hour. I wonder what logic the developers used to state that the fireworks would be every 2 hours from 5pm(GMT), but in reality only have them go off when the server reaches it’s dawn. Does it matter if it’s day or night when they fire?
Anyone know how long I can be AFK before I’ll get disconnected?

I think you’ll get logged off for inactivity before you get the achievement. It’s a pity they don’t allow you to just hang around akitten the cities. Especially for events like this.

I wish there was some way to know when the fireworks would be coming – like a timer until dawn or something. The sky just looks red and hazy, but it’s been like that for the last 20 minutes. Still no achievement.

That should really have been made clearer…
I tried playing Dragon Ball last night and no one joined my team. I thought maybe that other new people would arrive, but they all ended up on the other team. It ended up with me being chased down constantly by a mob of the other team.
Has anyone else had this problem? Do people only get added to the teams at certain points during the match?
I like the change! It gives people an extra window to get over to the holograms and get some hits in. Besides, it only adds a few extra seconds to the amount of time you need to kill them.
It might not be true for everyone, but overall I’ve been able to kill more holograms in less time since the update.
I lost 50 silver due to a disconnect.
I don’t have that much gold on my account, but it’s not too hard to earn another 50 silver by selling the reward items from the various meta events around the world. Anyway, while it’s annoying to have lost the money, I had a 40% chance of losing it on the races in the first place.
To decrease the chance of disconnecting after I’ve bet, I just make sure I place my bet right before the race starts now (the logic being that there will be less time where my money is on the line).
The idea of the Dragon Bash festival is good. I can see how the population of Tyria would need a break from the evil dragons… but to really appreciate all of the different activities you need to be powerful and have a lot of resources. Um… like the Zaitan? I know the festival is run by pirates, but it seems a little illogical.
I really liked the Dragon festival in the original Guild Wars because I always felt like I could participate and it was fun – even when I was a new player there were a lot of things I could do. I think this festival has lost the fun element.
100,000 pieces of Zaitaffy for a back piece is unachievable for most people because it would require either huge amounts of gold or an endless grind. Even if players participate in Dragon Ball – which I do find very fun – the prize is just a single coffer. I imagine that the cost to bid on the moa races restricts a lot of people from getting that achievement/mini, too.
The whole festival seems to promote “every man for himself”. High level characters are having a much easier time of the coffer farming in newbie areas and the holographic battles usually last for less than 5 seconds. I see other people have posted about hologram etiquette, but I don’t think it’ll catch on because the rewards for just killing the mobs and getting on with the grind are too high.
It’d be nice to have a more balanced festival. Especially because the developers have obviously put a lot of time into the update. The music and decorations are great (and I think the loading screen for Lion’s Arch is awesome). It just seems to be missing the fun of the original festivals.
On the bright side, the main event is yet to come. Maybe there’ll be something good to even the odds a little. I wouldn’t mind some Zaitaffy raining from the heavens.
If only they blocked incoming projectiles, too…
One of my ranger’s downed skills, Thunderclap, doesn’t seem to be working anymore.
It used to interrupt enemies who were trying to finish me off, but now it has no effect once the finish animation has started – the time I would normally have to trigger the skill. I’ve noticed the problem in both PVP and WvW.
Anyone else having the trouble with it? My problems started about a week ago. It’s made the skill useless against other players because it does nothing as far as I can see.

I’ve been having the same trouble – same message as you have posted about, but my screen always goes white when the error message pops up. The problem seemed to start after the May 17th update. I’ve noticed quite a few similar threads have appeared on the forum since then so at least I know it’s not just my computer.
It’s making WvW almost impossible to enjoy because the disconnects are too frequent to complete a major siege or anything. It’s also closed down about 4 times while I’ve been doing jumping puzzles.
Also, I’ve noticed that the error reporting box (the white one, not the in-game bug menu) doesn’t appear after the game has crashed.
I hope someone can fix this problem soon.
It’s happened to me again! I guess no one else has had trouble with this, but it really does seem to be linked because the only times my game has crashed have been right after sending a bug report.
I don’t understand how that could cause my game to crash. Maybe someone at Arenanet doesn’t like me.
Mine is now working. I think it was fixed with the 26th update. Yay!
There are a few threads with this problem – I’ve just posted in one on the events forum. This is the first one I’ve seen with a solution. Hopefully it works.
No, didn’t work for me. Oh well.
(edited by CoffeeMakesMeSmile.8172)
Hmm… I’ve managed to pick up the third item in Diessa Plateau without any problems. Still no luck with the sword belt. Hopefully it will work after the next part of the living story is released.
I’ve reported two bugs in the last two weeks and had a major problem afterwards:
After sending the report, Guild Wars 2 totally freezes and I have to force it to close using the task manager. Both times a message about error reporting to Arenanet has appeared afterwards.
Has anyone else had this problem or have I just been unlucky?
I am having the same problem with the dirt covered object in Diessa Plateau.
It’s supposed to be the sword belt, but I’m not able to pick it up because it says I’ve already returned it. I checked with the refugee and she still wants me to find it.
It’s really frustrating because I’ve tried killing the invaders in several places and haven’t found a way around the problem yet.
I hope they have a survey after this living event (like they did after the lost shores one). I find parts of it fun, but the time scale is WAY too long and there are too many bugs.
Maybe they could add an NPC in the bank that exchanges currencies.
