this video is a nice example of 2 things that dont belong in pvp.
-1) first of perplexity is to strong atm. ( and its never gone get into spvp seeing they are trying to nerf condition meta …., )
-2) CLEARLY shows what is wrong with BP/HS combo. ( trait should change to : get 2 ini when you enter stealth by using a skill, not when you already in stealth)
CLEARLY shows BP+4HS really takes skill… very very few can do this stuff though, another Nerf for thief? ah i don’t think so… better Nerf the player’s skill

Just out of curiosity, what was his utility spec? He seems to have a lot of stealth for a P/P.
Was he using stealth on steal in combination with steal cooldown reduction + daze trait? And I think the blind on stealth too? Seems like a good combo with Perplexity runes. He was stealthing a lot (I think he got HiS and BP too?).
The Thiefsmer build seems like a good way to make P/P interesting and I’ve been wanting to use P/P on competitive picture for ages, too bad they will probably end up nerfing it and that it isn’t a real fix for P/P that needs a fix as a set instead of some runes you can specifically exploit with it, so I don’t think I want to get too excited trying it just to see it nerfed with P/P still being bad.
everytime i backstab him he just goes automatic invisible so i think he has this II trickery trait instinctual response
perplexity thief is really tough in 1 vs 1 situation confusion stacks reallykitten@! me up!

infiltrator’s strike>shadow return removes 1 condition and singet of agility cures condition for each nearby allies 600 radius. see how i managed to remove his conditions to me by using 2>2 Sword and signet of agility.

. so judge our fight if S/D is OP? hell no! he can kill me with just 1 eviscerate 13.4k dmg on my 2.4k armor and 3k – 4k for every axe’s normal attack

great video! i usually quitting pvp room when i know the nxt makitten kyhammer but now i wanna try this stuff! but in D/P perma stealth then scorpion wire LOL
all ascended zerker trinkets, (power,tough,vit) head and Coat, Valkyre Shoulder and gloves, Zerker Leggings, Boots
S/D 3 is so easy to land anyway. I say we take away all weapon sets except d/d, remove stealth, but wait…that still leaves skill slot 1…hmmm. need to rethink this.
Easy to land? I hate that spec BECAUSE of how hard that is to land. It’s prefaced by a moving dodge and has a slow animation.

There is something about the balance here that’s lost in 1v1. Consider this:
You and the warrior both live quite a while in that fight. His survivability is regen and raw tankiness while standing in the open. Yours is high evasion, stealth, moderate recovery, and lots of immunity frames.
In a team situation, that warrior isn’t gonna go anywhere. He’s gonna sit there, and the damage of 2-3 players will make his regen irrelevant, and he’ll die. You, however, might survive by pure benefit of mobility and evasiveness. You’re not tanking one source of damage, but escaping all sources of damage.
I’m not saying sigil of healing isn’t too high right now, or that thieves and warriors are equally balanced. However, I don’t think whether or not you can 1v1 a regen tank warrior is indicative of changes these professions may or may not need.
Well you’re prolly right. U have a point but i don’t use stealth in double s/ d build unless for finishing and escaping.
i really miss the Guild Wars 1 balanced pvp kitten that was the best MMO PvP ever. but my team/friends left the game.
learn to play Scepter/dagger Ele. they’re really good! but ya when a very good S/D thief is around… he can tear you to pieces cuz when u rely on boons he can steal it repeatedly… all i think is BUFF the Ele’s elite Glyph of elemental.. more dmg and faster attack speed. and their skill’s cooldown shud be lessen
S/D is o.k., but it still loses to most professions and doesn’t provide enough to his team. You either burst then die, in which case a mesmer/thief bursts nearly as hard w/o using every utility, and have plenty of survival mechanisms, or you try to hop in and out with sustained damage, but can’t even out-damage a warrior running healing signet b/c they heal more than you dps. That is why I say we need more damage.
well warrior’s heealing signet with banner/condition is healla too OP! with shaman’s amulet ANET shud review that case i think they’re not aware and don’t expect theres a single ele build that can dominate all classes’s different build unless if you’re a pro engineer. ya pro engineer can dominate all in 1v1.. sad to say.
S/D Thieves…. ya i usually playing double S/D thief and i find Larcenous strike OP if and ONLY if im facing a boon dependent class (Ele, guardian) why? i can steal 2 boons everytime i land my Larcenous… so to be balance make LS steal 1 boon but retain/gain 1 initiative on Larcenous strike HiT!.. this 1 init retain will always makes s/d thief player to use their FS/LS skill wisely! not the spammable way!
Saying ele is ok just tells me that you don’t play the class and don’t really understand what being an ele is like – a poor man’s thief or a useless sack of potatoes are you 2 options.
Maybe you think shaving other classes will help, but that means you are planning on nerfing all 7 classes, as currently ele loses to all of them (see the old matchup comparison thread).
You could always put RtL on an 80s cooldown…that would fix the issue.
Seriously, we need to be given either more survivability or more damage. The only way eles could stay alive before was by going 100% defensive, and you nerfed that into oblivion. The only option now is to go balls-to-the-wall on offense, and do it worse than a thief/mesmer. I don’t see how you could say we are o.k: poor damage, poor survivability, poor utilities (due to excessive cooldowns), the worst elites, and the most telegraphed attacks. For all that, we get some burst-healing that has been nerfed into the ground and a mobility skill that is buggy and performs worse than most other class’s mobility skills. Don’t even try to justify staff, as you have said it isn’t meant for pvp. Sounds like a fair trade-off.

well i can’t blame ANET developers on this…. i dnt think they have at least one skillful pvpers who works on them.
Phantasmal Fury ADEPT Trait…. what kitten ed me off is a pure soldier (power,tough,vit) Mesmer with no critical chance can still do 4k-6k dmg each Phantasmal Duelisit and Swordsman cuz of this ADEPT trait Phantasmal Fury, it wud be more balance if they move this trait to MASTER trait.
NOTE: this Phantasmal Fury grants phantasms a CONTINUALLY refreshing 10s fury boon.

If they are using zerker trinkets they should have no surviability, only high damage. In the vídeo you have more health than the warrior almost of the time and he is build to bunker.You were also a bunker in that vídeo?
in this video im just using zerker trinket zerker gem… 1,980 armor 17k hp…. poison? i asked him last week about that fight he can remove condition easily so poison is not a problem with him… just watch the rematch held in private server room.
so if they did nerfed it again… bye bye thief… id rather play mesmer and quitting thief for awhile and i prolly play thief D/P build roaming in WvW. only

well double s/d is evasive and ya high dmg but not too bursty. sacrificing your range weapon (shortbow) just for this s/d main and s/d 2nd set is not OP. and Larcenous strike’s 0.5sec casting time is hard to land just like Cloak and dagger,
venoms with their 45secs cooldown not worth their effect. like this skale venom 3stacks torment for 6secs!? and cooldown 45secs!?? unlike other class can cast their torment 5stacks for 8 – 12 secs. and their torment skill is not utility skill. basilisk stone is the only venom that im using.
So the general concensus actually seems to be that all other trees are more or less okay except for deadly arts which is bad.
I wonder if devs did this on purple to screw over burst thieves from becoming too strong.
no they wont gonna fix it… cuz no anet devs playing thief and ranger period. or if theyre playing thief i think theyre not that good. nothing but some BAD thief in spvp. just a guess LOL
deadly art trait is the worst trait in GW2… all of em are useless except the MUG… ya the only good trait which arena net nerfed it! thats why i see no thief will gonna use deadly arts trait above 10

I’m having a lot of difficulty chosing between S/D, D/P and D/D for WvW and or sPvP. What’s your take on the weaponsets?I’m getting a bit sick of the AoE condition spam builds so I figured S/D to get in and out, but it feels a bit weaker unless you go S/D + S/D (and I love my SB

sometimes i run double S/D somtimes D/P and shortbow. just use any build u want, if you feel comfortable with that build go for it
its totally insane how a class with stealth can just pop it and even when hit directly remain in stealth, classes like thief just stealth spam using cloak and dagger and reset a fight at will, it takes no great feat of skill to just spam stealth nonstop stabing a player who has no clue where you are.
How should thiefs then fight and overlife a fight?
And I know where thiefs are, also if they are stealthed.
Stealth belongs to one of the weakest mechanics in this game (after steal), because its very easy to counter and the next action from the thief 9 is in 99% predictable, a backstab in the back.yes I have an 80 thief.
After this logic:
I have 2 lvl 80 thiefs + 1 with “lvl 357” , so I have more experience and my sentences have more true inside than yours.
how can you predict my S/D?
or maybe the thief u faced really outplayed you…
bro try to watch the team paradigm vs CC grand finals of Mist League and tell me how thieves are incapable in teamclash 5v5 cuz theyre all skillful players they all know how to counter every class they faced. in this video thieves are very good at roaming capping around soloist but they can’t survive enough in team clash. so is that OP?
BTW. One more tip:
-You can cast Cluster bomb from 900 distance, then swap to sword and get an immobilize on your target with steal+inf strike OR inf signet+inf strike. Get you some more reliable damage aswell as immobilize etc.
i havent tried sthat cuz when i usually run double S/D ya without shortbow…. i did some cluster bomb before the nerf 1,200 range.. basilisk+cluster bomb then a quick CnD+steal+bacsktab! but i dnt have that video footage. well if the enemy is aware its hard to do that stuff.
The video was good except for the crappy music lol. This thread is something I wish I had when I first started playing, had to learn all this stuff playing against other thieves.
The thing is alot of this stuff seems unintended, I’m almost afraid Anet will fix alot of it. But who are we kidding anet doesn’t fix anything.

You didn’t give me credit for showing you the trick that I came up with 0_0 my Ninja strike, double stealth HS, Nor did I want many people knowing about it.

You can combo infiltrator signet -> infiltrator’s strike -> steal for a super shadow step which covers a lot of distance and it’s really instant even though it’s 3 skills and opens with victim immobilized and poisoned and weakened (depending on your traits)
ah i forgot that thing! the 3,600 distance +shadowstep utility. but i usually doing infiltrator’s strike and infiltrator’s signet . that distance is enough to catch enemy in spvp tpvp when im using S/D
I keep hearing how the meta is full of unkillable “condi bunkers” from every profession and that’s making things harder… yet I haven’t noticed it much :S
When I see that kind of opponent I tend to eat him for breakfast (and I’m built for support), but I guess it’s related to me being P/D with loads of Poison too so most times I never even notice that 4K armor as my damage is done through conditions and sometimes leeching armor ignoring damage through venoms (and I don’t even use caltrops, just P/D in a venom sharer setup) and I cancel a great chunk of their heals with poison (starting a fight with steal traited for poison and Spider Venom keeps it up a huge lot of time).
It has merit that you didn’t want to change your build and still managed to find a way to defeat him (I also refuse to change my build), but the Thief has multiple ways to eat those guys alive. Thief doesn’t need to be a zerker all the time, from my experience we can excel at conditions and at team support despite how many players sniff at that idea.
i changed my build to 10/30/0/30/0 with Mug trait and i can poison him everytime i use steal 5 trait on deadly arts. my previous build is 0/30/0/30/10 no poison at all
I’m not sure of the warrior’s build, but isn’t he running with Cleansing Ire? If so, it should take him about 2 seconds to realize that saving his burst for after your steal is the way to go. Even if he doesn’t have cleansing ire, 12 seconds of poison every 35s is going to help, but not change the game here.
You were not impressed by SHbow’s damage in an earlier post, but you’re not taking Shbow for its damage. You’re taking it for Poison and Weakness. Choking Gas + Cluster bomb, and you can use disabling shot to put cripple on him as a cover condition if need be – Now you’ve got 4 conditions on him (Poison, weakness, bleed, cripple), though the cripple is admittedly short-lived. You can also use Whirling axe in Choking gas to stack up some extra poison.
Also, as a side note – when I ran Jumpers double S/D, I switched Inf Sig for Assassins Sig and also ran 10 DA over 10 Trickery – the difference 280 total power makes is tremendous. You might also consider switching Sigil of Accuracy for Force, and if it fits your playstyle, side strikes for Signets of Power. A bit less init regen, but then again you’re hitting hard enough to not always need all that init for additional FS/LS
u wanna try him with your S/D and shortbow? are u in N/A server? i can pm him for duels. i wanna record the fight though its really hard to explain without experiencing his infinite insane heals. if i switched to shortbow just for poison and some conditions, i need to w8 for 10secs weap swap cooldowns before am able to switch to S/D for burst. so in this 10secs period do u think i can bring his HP down using shortbow+ poison? or lets say u landed critical hits cluster bomb for 1.5k – 1.8k ish

D/D is a bit useless against semi tank or ya tanky skillful players in tPvP
D/P is better in sPvP, tPvP (but S/D still the best spvp, tpvp)
or why dnt you use D/D and D/P? some example
in WvW
D/D is good as an opener for CnD/Steal backstab burst (with basilisk) and when you’re at zerg’s behind enemy lines its easy to land your CnD and good for trolling 20man zerg w8ing for right moment to bacsktab but when you’re at the middle of small scale fights sometimes D/D will be a problem for landing CnD cuz of blocks, evades, blind so u cant stealth yourself anytime, unlike D/P “i can stealth anytime just gimme 8-9 initiatives!!” so u can prolly survive more when you use D/P
and D/D is the best choice for slaying 1 vs outnumbered squishy noobs in WvW or up leveled

id like to use D/D when im @ behind enemy lines of zerg! i can cast my cloak and dagger everywhere! + caltrops and caltrops on evade trait if you’re condition
while s/d thieves using their Larcenous strike (1/2 secs. casting time) that wud be the perfect chance to use your burst skill like Fire Grab… so its all about timing as swinsk said “if you attack at the right time you can blow that thief!” btw flanking strike (evading attack) sequence —-—> Larcenous Strike http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flanking_Strike_
well if you’re ele or guardians who depends on boons… S/D thieves will just gonna eat you.. way how to counter s/d thieves are tons of projectile conditions like engineers if i sit into their turrets im dead! or a good phantasm mesmers with lots of stealth utilities veil, decoy and elite mass and using their blurred frenzy for survival or D/P stealthy blinding thieves or mace/GS warrior if they caught me 3secs stun skull crack+hundred blades and when my breakstun is on cooldown im prolly dead!
healing signet can afford a nerf and wars will still be on top of their game. If you reduce the heal by 20% it will have a balancing effect moreso than a nerf.
So that the warrior in the video can lose even harder to an OP joke of a class thief that deals massive damage but has huge sustain because of all the evades (and stealth if it was even used)?

I’m not just talking about thieves. Every try fighting warrior using heal signet 1v1 as scepter ele? Impossible to outdamage the heal, you can try to tell me to use any tactic or pull all my tricks but it is a plain impossibility, even on most glass wars and Especially if it’s a mace/gs war.
with my 1,980 armor and 17k hp when that mace/gs kind of warrior caught me with his mace f1 stun
and when my breakstun is on cooldown! i prolly 100% dead! if i didn’t manage to evade his f1 mace
so anyone has a video or link can 1v1 any decent warrior with 1k heal/ sec + 4.1k armor with insane conditions and AOE burn!?? kitten even if he dueled with engineers this warrior just sitting and eating all of that engies elite turret… that warrior can really survive, engies cant even bring his hp down below 40% not even zerker mesmers or shatter mesmers, phantasm mesmers

i changed trait added 10 deadly arts so i can poison him somehow for 10secs whenever i use steal and Mug trait for additional heals and dmg.
Use Spider Venom instead of Troll for Initiative.
Hhmmm Spider Venom 45secs cooldown? i can only apply poison single condition which he can remove it easily so my 45secs cooldown utility wasted, im fine with 10secs poison from 5 deadly arts trait and look how many times this Troll of initiative saves me from 4secs immobilize/stun and also brings back my whole initiative
shortbow is not an option (or it would if there wasn’t a 15s cooldown to switch weapon), I don’t know why people keep bringing up this weapon.
well some scenario shortbow will be a good choice sniping and cluster bombing in clash while your teammates fighting @ Capturing point and for kiting
