perma stealth is bad form too.
Has no one mentioned the culling/lag issue? He was probably owned by 5 people and never even saw it coming until it was over.
Also, the Alt+F4 issue seems to be getting worse. I’m finding it done more and more. And, I’m not even maxed out or a glass cannon build. If I’m planting a stake in you, I earned it!
exactly. one good cheat deserves another. if a thief is cheating with perma stealth he deserves to get alt-f4’d every time.
Do you guys really think that ArenaNet is going to distribute ascended items in a less grindy way outside of FotM?
What would happen to FotM then? Nobody would ever bother doing it because its boring as kitten, only reason anyone does it now is for gear don’t kid yourselves.

Yes kitten straight they know what they are doing and they know that they have already alienated everyone that isn’t a grind addict, they ARE smart enough not to alienate the last group supporting this game.

loved it before the fractals and ascended. now, it’s a way to pass the time. there are still many good elements. sorry, but the new gear is mandatory in wvwvw. if you like to zerg, perhaps less critical.

easy. simply compare the items side by side. include the added stats you get from the infusion (most people thing that infusion only helps with agony resist). add up the stats and divide ascended by the base. voila. this excludes the better synergies with ascended pieces too.
The actual math shows it really doesn’t matter. Gear is less than a quarter of the stats that matter for your character. Most comes from traits and levels.
The most common ring you see adds 5 power 5 pre. That’s 1/4 of 1% crit rate and about 1/5 of 1% to your damage.
The improvement only matters if what you’re looking at is stats on items in your paperdoll. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking at in-game performance.
It depends what you put in the denominator. I exclude base stats, and I am looking at item to item stats. Thus, my point stands. I never said over character stats. I specified item stats. It’s your call on how you wish to represent the facts. I am focused on the items. Whether or not it matters is a purely subjective argument. I think these do matter.

i realize this really depends on what class is facing what class, and using what builds, but i’m talking about in general here.
the only place where ascended gear may make a difference is in pvp, namely wvwvw. considering how little gear contributes stat wise compared to traits and levels, ascended gear may have negligible impact there. the numbers will still remain the number 1 deciding factor imo. the server with the bigger zerg will still win. if i have 50 warm bodies to throw at you, and you have 40 people, even if you guys were all in full ascended gear, i will still win.
You can assume whatever you want. Not all of us Zerg in WvWvW. How about this? If the stats truly don’t matter as you claim, why not make them equal to exotics? After all, fractals are so much fun and worth the time to do all of them, right?
It’s completely legitimate against perma stealthers. Can’t see them? Alt f4!
ANET should remove stealth until they have a game engine that can support stealth.
Not let stealth be in the game while they try to fix their game engine.There isnt any other MMO where they have made stealth so powerful like they have in Stealth wars 2.

I certainly hope so! The game is broken the way they can perma stealth.
I always ask people to do a Warrior sweep after capping keeps/castles. Wouldn’t want them 1v1ing people to death. >_>

Thieves. Highest dps, best ranged, fastest, perma stealth. Too opd right now.
I find this pretty lulzy, considering that both powerful thief ranged skills, Cluster Bomb and Sneak Attack, are almost always used at melee or near-melee range. If you’re getting killed by thieves at a range they’re either amazing or you’re standing very very still. Heck, thieves only have one max-range weapon skill, and it isn’t very viable to use from 1200 range.
at least their ranged attacks aren’t obstructed half the time as rangers’ are.

Ascended gear is going to be rolled out into other aspects of the game. Im assuming you, me, and everyone has no real idea how long it will take to get the gear when that happens. So the difference can’t really be known now can it?

The back pieces are somewhat difficult to make, ill give you that, but again everyone has the tools in front of them to do what’s necessary to acquire it. Its just a matter of how much time a player has or wants to spend doing so.
Just like when making the jump from rare to exotic, albeit taking a little less time.
If you’re taking forever that’s YOUR experience.
And again, once the gear is distributed as a reward across the game, WvW will be no different. There’s hardly any difference in the time to get a rare vs exotic, plus I can buy both. I cannot buy ascended. So again, the comparison is laughable.

Maybe i should’ve specified precisely where I was going with all this but my main point is that WvW is not meant to be balanced player to player. It never was supposed to be.
We knew this prior to launch and the introduction of this new gear REGARDLESS of the jump from exotic and REGARDLESS of the time it takes players to acquire it, isn’t going to make a lick of difference in WvW.
That’s why I don’t understand why people are so worried about it. Obviously it won’t matter in SPvP either because it won’t be included or because if it is, everyone will just be bumped up on an even spread as normal.
I also don’t understand why you brought up the length of time it takes to get ascended gear as a counterargument to the fact that it doesn’t matter in WvW.
Gear never mattered in WvW. Ever. It was never meant to be balanced and it wasn’t before ascended was added.
Just the strength of your team/zerg and how well your server coordinates is what matters in WvW. Gear’s never been balanced in that mode. So why go crazy when ascended is added into the mix?
Again, if you’re concentrating on 1v1 scenarios, go play SPvP because why in the heck are you in WvW trying to kill individual players and not trying to team up and take keeps and castles?
And also don’t assume that because you can go from rare to exotic lickity split, everyone else can.
But again, that doesn’t matter in WvW.

Ranger is much much weaker now than it was in beta, and the pets are still bugged.
Prevent perma stealth by fixing culling.
Play naked if you feel too powerful.
It would be nice to know why thieves have higher speed, better me lee and ranged dps and better condition attacks than do rangers, in addition to perma stealth?
Perma stealthing thieves. High dps and cannot be hit. I just alt f4 on them.
I think some people are doing the math wrong. A 0.5% increase in equipment stats across all equipment is still only a 0.5% increase in stats. Multiplication is distributive…
Even if you had 40 people in Exotics vs 40 people in Ascended, the power difference is still 0.5%.
item to item it’s more like a 20%+ improvement. the math you reference includes base stats in the denominator.
I’ve found the best way I can play Guild Wars 2 currently and not quit is to simply pretend that Ascended Gear and Fractals do not exist.
… This is what I have been doing and it has caused me to become very happy with this game lately.
Sadly, I can only do this for so long. Once I get my equipment to pretty looking dungeon exotics, my story finished, and map completion…
After I reach that point it is just sPvP and Fractal Dungeons for me, I guess. I don’t enjoy WvW as much as I do sPvP, so I rarely participate in WvW.
We are already seeing the effects of roaming ascended gear groups in wvwvw. It won’t be long until it’s mandatory to get this.
Those of us who hate fractals are now nearly a month behind the dungeon grinders to get the best gear

Stats of +20-50% better per piece are not trivial increase. Last time I checked, fail is a verb too.
Whatever reason others Alt+F4 for I do it for one reason, I will not give a single honor badge to a thief class if I can help it. When that troll class starts crying about never getting badges in WvW Anet might do some fair adjustments (fair to the thief and their victims).

I just don’t understand the mentality of people buying a game marketed as a massively multi-player online game and then complaining you can’t do everything solo.
Some of us see the value of other people in MMOs as more targets to kill.

Fractals are great, Southsun Cove has the best farming in the game, and with world completion done and my alt complex out of the way I’ve found a new love for my main; I have been making at least 20g a week for the last two weeks, had a reason to actually use the mats I’ve been hoarding (quiver), and have been doing a lot more dungeons.
I guess the difference is I play the games I have, not pine for the imaginary games that others want.
I found the fractals the worst gaming experience I’ve had in many years. I have yet to see when the benefits will be available outside fractals, and I am disappointed that anet invested so much in a facet of the game that I personally abhor.
I am currently forced to grind dungeons so that I don’t get curb stomped in WvWvW. They haven’t announced when I can get the much better gear outside of dungeon grinds. Until I see it live, my position won’t change.

You are going to find there are people that are going to curbstomp you.
Class balance and player skill have a far greater impact on PvP then gear.
And there is never going to be class balance.
And there are going to always be players that are just flat out better players then you.
Just as there are going to be players you meet that you are going to curbstomp when you are lesser gear because you are better then them skill wise or your class has inherent advantages over them.
My point is that I don’t like playing at a clear gear deficit. What you think I need or how well you think I play are irrelevant. They are extraneous excuses meant to make me accept the overpowered gear that currently is only available through grinding. I don’t accept it, your opinions notwithstanding.
The OP asked a question. I answered it and provided my rationale. I am not here to argue what I NEED to enjoy a game. I know what I need.

20-50% higher stats per piece of gear definitely makes a big impact.
Too steep a gear grind to compete in WvWvW. I’d recommend dark age of Camelot for them, instead.
