I hate dungeons and refuse to do them. I am levelling Alts and grinding rares. It’s lonely.
IRL I would actualy say work hard to get rewarded. But the problem is I play this game for fun. I have already payed 60$ to have fun and I would prefer not having to grind to have fun when it would be possible to create an option that wouldn’t force me to grind before having fun.
So you would have a problem in real life about an option that would allow you to be rewarded without working hard?
I am curious why you think an online game should have easy access to fun while real life shouldn’t.
Because it’s entertainment, not a job, lol. I don’t think we mind investing time into something that we actually enjoy, versus the accursed dungeon grinds.
lol. try dividing the total gear stats by total gear stats. then you might understand.
Add up the stats. the new gear is at least 20% better than is the equivalent exotic.
lol i have looked closely. it’s hours and hours of a grind in content some of us hate. How difficult is that to understand. the rings don’t always drop. How can you say what is a grind for some of us? It’s not optional. stop saying that. the stats are at least 20% better than exotics. not optional.
What would you like in the game? Would you like the rings mailed to you? Would you like the mats you need to craft ascended gear for free?
And where did you get the 20% better? Did you read that somewhere, or did you calculate it on your own?
What you need to do is decide for yourself what feels like a grind and what doesn’t, and you’ll feel better about how you play the game. The people here are not a sample of the majority. Progression in all of its forms are as much a part of this game as it is a part of life. If you choose not to progress here, you go somewhere else and progress elsewhere. But make no mistake. Fundamental design requires character progression and reward. Anet has provided additional ways to progress, that’s all. It doesn’t violate the ToS, it doesn’t violate some vague promise they made 7 years ago. It’s the natural order of the development cycle, and it only helps to improve your enjoyment of gameplay. So, don’t listent to the masses, don’t jump on the bandwagon until you listen to yourself first. What do you feel you want to accomplish in this game? That’s more important than what anyone else tells you.
I want the ability to earn these new items on my own, doing what I enjoy. Dungeon grinds don’t cut it. I enjoy wvwvw. I was happy before this patch. I never asked for it.
Go add up the back pack stats and tell me they don’t total 20% more than the best exotic one.
I spent more time writing reviews on Amazon, Target.com, etc. I loved this game before this patch.
Wow. Good point. Going to go do that right now.
Encourage others to do the same. The recent reviews are quite enlightening,
Being forced to run dungeons for the best gear so you can remain competitive in WvW is not unique.
I keep seeing this comment everywhere.
Have you possibly considered that maybe you just suck at WvW?
I don’t mean to sound rude, mind, it’s just that I was always plenty “competitive” in WvW at Lvl 80 while wearing just magic or masterwork-level items. I never once felt heavily disadvantaged and would regularly kill other players in head-to-head combat. So, either I’m just that good (which is unlikely), or you’re doing something wrong.
Ergo, I’m inclined to think that if you honestly believe a few extra stat points are going to make you suddenly perform better at WvW, you’re in for a lot of disappointment. Stats help, but are hardly as influential as people seem to think.
this is what all the grinders say. They say so because they know that they will have the gear and others will not. 20%+ better stats aren’t trivial.
You’re either a fool or can’t read.
I very clearly stated that I first started playing in WvW with blue and green gear, having never grinded the game at all, and was doing FINE. I’m fairly certain that the difference between a player in mostly blues and a player in all exotics is a MUCH bigger gap than exotics vs ascended will turn out to be. Yet I was able to get over that hurdle. And if I can do it, anyone can.
Heck, I tried it again just before the patch went in, and I was still doing pretty well. And I still don’t have anywhere close to a full set of exotics. In fact I just earned my first two exotic armor items during the weekend event (one as a drop, and another by trading my finale chest rewards with another player). I’m no “leet” player and I’m not the “grinder” you want to pretend I am. I’m just the opposite, and yet I’m telling you that you’re full of kitten. The gear isn’t the problem, YOU are.
Sorry, but your narrative is entirely false. Gear can certainly help, but it doesn’t make a kitteny player suddenly turn into a powerhouse player. Stop lying to yourself and just admit that maybe you’re just not as good as you think you are.
I read perfectly well, thank you. You were defending the new gear grind. Sorry kiddo, but gear makes a difference. Try to pretend otherwise. I know it’s easy to dismiss the concerns of people like me who have little time to grind.
I am completely relaxed. focused and intent, but relaxed. thanks for being concerned about our welfare.

We could say the same thing about wow. it’s thatta way.
I love this game still and hate the community and how they behave… Or at-least the community on the forum.
It reminds me all too much of what I see in other games, players not actually reading what developers write, thinking about how changes actually impact them or responding in sensible manners. But then again you are all the 90% right, whatever your idea is EVERYONE holds the same idea.
I find it funny that people talk about grind in ascended gear, the rings drop and fairly easily with one guarenteed and if you cannot afford a black slot after doing over EIGHTY fractal dungeons I have to ask… How bad are you at this game… I mean seriously I get what 60silver roughly per three dungeons at LOW LEVEL DIFFICULTY in those dungeons… You get through 80 dungeons + to the level you are required to actually use the back slot item and you get a ring AND can afford a backslot item… It is that simple.
The stats on the item make a 1%-2% difference to your OVERALL character strength which is NOTHING and a lesser difference than rare to exotics. And makes no difference in world vs world, especially if we cannot select runes and have rune effects in play (and people who use runes for their stats only and don’t work with the effects are just bad players, like the glass cannon only groups, lacking in intelligence)
There is still no gear grind in the game that isn’t optional, none that effects the gameplay in a meaningful way and ascended isn’t even a grind atm due to how they implemented it.
All I see is a bunch of people having a kneejerk reaction without actually having a closer look at how it will effect them and the way the game is played.
lol i have looked closely. it’s hours and hours of a grind in content some of us hate. How difficult is that to understand. the rings don’t always drop. How can you say what is a grind for some of us? It’s not optional. stop saying that. the stats are at least 20% better than exotics. not optional.
If we got clearer and more straightforward communications, people might be nicer.

Playing less because the thought of grind dungeons to be competitive in wvwvw is disheartening.
Those who loved grinding in WoW see no violation of the manifesto because they didn’t really grasp it in the first place.
Most idiotic post I’ve seen in a long, long time. LOL at you and your belief that it will take “a couple days max.”
More like the most truthful post you’ve read in a while.
No offense but to support our war efforts in another mmo that shall remain nameless, we had upwards of half a dozen pve only guilds in our 0 sec zones (hint hint) supplying us. On top of that, we had regular corp (hint, hint) pve groupings for drops and rares.
It’s funny that there are so many inexperienced mmo players here, who at the same time, are filled with self entitlement. Super bad combo that leads to so many QQ post such as this one.
LOl. You hold that game up as the standard. I am sorry, but that just lost you any credibility.
The funny thing is people who are doing fractals in the hope to get ascended items are going to be sorely disappointed when they find out they’ll need hundreds and hundreds of gold to craft them.
Also false.
250 T6 fine mats is the bulk of the cost, and is pretty easy to get once you know which one you want. Just sell the T6 mats you don’t need. I had all of 40 silver in my bank when I got my vial. A quick liquidation of the stuff I didn’t actually need paid for the remaining T6 mats. Its really not that hard. I’d wager most people have a lot of valuable mats just gathering dust in the bank.
Also remember you can use the MF to upgrade T5 mats to T6 mats, and the drop rates of T5 mats are extremely generous in any L80 zone.
50 ectos? That’s extremely easy to come by with the rebalancing to loot. Just salvage rares you can pick up pretty easily anywhere and you’ll have it in less than a week.
Philosopher’s stones/crystals?
That’s just skill points. You can do literally anything to pay for these, and it won’t cost you a single copper.
How do you upgrade T5 mats to T6 mats? are you talking about improved drop rates in lieu of t5 mats?
I have the Tome of the rubicon. it is an ascended item, and i made it on my first day of doing fractals. (I also started that day with 60s to my name)
If you are having trouble getting the mist essence then try using full MF gear. I wasn’t when i looted mine, but the guy that got the 3 in one fractal had full MF gear on. Hopefully you guys get yours soon. Btw dont make the one with the powerful bloods or it will cost you 100G however if you go for the scale one (i think that one has same stats, but i can’t check atm) it will cost maybe 2 gold for 250 of them.
Hopefully you guys get your mist essence’s soon
I had +180% magic find. it still took me 5 hours.
That’s some bad luck. Really though, unless you are flying through the fractals like crazy and at 10+ where there is agony then you really dont need these.
I needed it for the god-mode backpack. I ground every mob.
I believe a formal apology is in order.

The paragraph was written to ignore complaints and to evade responsibility. We demand clear and direct answers, not PR hand waving.
funny. it took me 5 hours of pure misery to get my vial of essence. I hated every second of it.
Thanks much. I worried that it too would fail after hours of toil.
lol. nice try. they can still achieve perma stealth. come back once that’s fixed (culling bug).
Perma stealth is doable without any culling abuse. While I hope to see culling fixed if you think that means there won’t be any more permastealth you’re gonna have a bad time. Learn how to counter it now.
Yes, but they will have to spec for it and give up dps. Right now they can max dps and stealth because of the culling bug.
Fair enough, but if your complaint is solely about culling it isn’t really a thief complaint.
In a way it’s a mesmer and thief complaint. they both disproportionately benefit from it.
I just gotta LoL at all the gear QQ’ing from so called full time WvW’ers.
If you want the hawt gear, ya gots to pay your dues to go get it. It really isn’t much (psst…that’s why they say there isn’t a gear grind…you don’t have to kill 15k mobs in the hopes of one single drop). A couple of days max doing that icky pve and then you can go pew-pew instead of QQ.
Much, much more hard core pvp MMO’s than GW:2 have pve gathering in order for you to have the resources and/or gear drops to up your pvp game. It’s just the way it works kids. Now let that sink in and get over it already.
And yeah, totally agree, the ascended gear that’s in game atm is not a substantial enough boost to be crying this much over.
And yeah, yeah. Agree that WvW rewards should/need to be better.
Why must we do things we hate to compete in wvwvw? Why? 20+% higher stats isn’t “nothing.” If you love dungeon grinds, go for it. Some of us have better things to do.
If i get all the right materials, is it a 100% chance to get the item produced, or is it another roulette wheel? Thanks.
Let the grinders play around all they want in their little dungeons. Just allow those of us who hate dungeons to get the same gear in more enjoyable ways. This should have been available from day one.
lol. nice try. they can still achieve perma stealth. come back once that’s fixed (culling bug).

And if they bring the current thief nerfs to WvW thieves will be a lot better.
I’m not sure if you understand the PvP-only nerfs that happened last patch, but they primarily targeted more conservative control-based thief builds. These rest of nerfs coming to WvW would, if anything, push more thieves into high-burst backstabby play.
Yes, but they will have to spec for it and give up dps. Right now they can max dps and stealth because of the culling bug.
More dungeons. I hate dungeons. It would have nice to acknowledge the near universal disgust at the gear grind.
Aye, thank you for answering. So from your experience, why does one need ascended gear then? Why do we need +stats and anti-agony?
You “need” anti-agony if only to buffer your survival in case you can’t dodge in time. It’s a safety net, so you can be a little sloppy and not be wrecked.
The stats? I’m not sure. I think the +Stats are there because the Infusions may . . . may . . . be overall weaker than gemstones/runes/crests since the Agony resistance takes the place of a stat.
Agony resistance does NOT take the place of a stat.
the infusions add agony resist AND more stats!
No. Getting the best gear should be an achievement or reward, not a given. My biggest pet peeve about gamers these days is they feel that just because they log into your game, everything should be handed to them on a silver platter. But actually put some effort into this? No. You can insert the typical reasons – lack of time, lack of desire to do what is required, etc. Sorry, that’s the way it goes – everywhere. Generally, you don’t get rewarded for doing nothing – unless you work for congress.
Who said anything about not putting in time. Easy doesnt necessarily mean faster. To me, it means getting it for doing things you love.
Oh my god, quit crying and go Spvp.
If all of you “Real pvpers” are leaving because of ascended gear, just know that the actual Pvpers are laughing at you because we know that gear isn’t everything, and the minuscule jump this gear makes is half a tier, not even a full tier.
It wont matter. If you are good, you will shred people in ascended gear still despite what you are wearing.
The Ascended gear is just what separates those who want to put in the extra effort versus those who put in the effort to whine about it on forums.
Because time = skills, right??!
I don’t think it’s “you people”. I think it’s a small knot of very disgruntled fans. This is the same kind of mentality as fans who will throw stuff on the field of a ball game when their team is losing . . . causing the game to be ended prematurely and with no chance to recover.
Those fans you are referring too are the fans who have either played GW1 and know the philosophy, or the fans who have accepted the GW1/2 Mission statement.

So let me get this straight… you are actively trying to get a subset of players to actively sabotage a game that a vast majority actually enjoys to play? What will this accomplish really? Aside from making you look a tad selfish?
Since when is writing honest reviews sabotage? If it pressures for the right change, then it’s good.
Writing reviews isn’t, but attempting to start an organized campaign to intentionally make a game sound bad is. If people want to write a review they can, but campaigning for it is childish. Why not let people play the game on their own terms, and let them make their own opinions? They pay for the game once with no sub fee so really what harm is there in letting people experience the game. Some will enjoy it, some wont, but attempting to force your opinion on others is not the correct way to go about it.
They are free to do what they want. I am suggesting a legal and effective outlet for their outrage. Forcing? How is this forcing? Lol
Telling people to flood online review sites is an attempt to force an opinion on the masses.
.
Yes I have a gun to their heads. Lol. Clearly they have no free will. Lol.

The whole issue could be nullified if they made ascended gear available they wvw.
Make it purchasable thru badges, make badges auto loot when the target is downed, remove badges from pve stuff (jumping puzzle awards more badges then actualy fighting. Really?)
I thought they said they have plans to, but hadn’t rolled it out yet.
“Over time…” Whatever that means, they should have done it from day 1.
@Tobias Trueflight.8350
I’m sorry but I did not read your life story. I played GW1 from day one until my final deployment to Afghanistan in 2010. I stopped playing GW1 and tried WoW then went back to GW1. I stopped playing GW1 other times as well to either, enjoy real life or other non-mmo games. Either case, from the start, I always came back to GW1. I promise, that if Anet continues in the direction they are going, when I leave GW2, I wont come back unless they, at Anet, revert back to their Mission Statement. I did not go back to WoW, I went back to GW1 and now GW2.
“Has ArenaNet put something in the game which is against their manifesto? Are
Ascended items something they promised they wouldn’t do?”First question yes, and it started with Legendary Weapons, hence so much animosity. Next question, I do not know. But I do know it was not GW1 and its not what I payed $80 for the game and another $50 on gems.
“Same answer to both situations. I don’t think it matters, but I can’t say for certain. I am neither clairvoyant nor am I capable of peering into alternate realities.”
It does matter, otherwise the forums would be flooded with, “fix your bugs” and “your dungeons are still too hard” instead of, “WoWzerz Bowzerz Anet, OMG for real?”
I didn’t really expect anyone to read my life story. That’s just a selected fraction of it, mind you. My life story is quite boring and uninteresting, and I am relatively certain once I close the final chapter there will be nobody wanting to hear it. I made peace with that long ago.
Again, I disagree about “does it matter?” because I honestly don’t think it will make a difference. Legendaries didn’t make a difference, for all that they were highly grind-y. They’re there, you need to invest time and effort to get them, but in the end I’m not seeing a big compelling reason to chase them other than “because it’s there”.
Legendaries didn’t have 20+% better stats.

20+% higher stats isn’t slightly.
Aye, thank you for answering. So from your experience, why does one need ascended gear then? Why do we need +stats and anti-agony?
It’s there to help those who either mess up with the dodge rolling and the +stats are just to help make things run faster. I imagine the trash mobs do eventually scale up in difficulty to how some trash mobs of the harder mobs introduced (lvl 84 veteran karkas I’m looking at you). As for the bosses themselves, the agony mechanic is rather shallow if you do avoid the hits.
And yeah I don’t have Ascendant(Ima call Pink) Gear. I have a ton of those vials though. Those things drop like candy. Pink Gear themselves are too expensive to craft outright and I am not one to farm T6 mats for such a minor upgrade in stats. I’d rather save it for my legendary I’ll eventually get.
I think my only wish if they had rolled Pink Gear into Exotic Gear (Like throwing in your Exotics with a Gift of the Mist and it spits out an Pink Version of it) and having infusion slots added with the minor points added from the Infusions you can get via crafting the way Sigils and Runes are.
20%+ higher stats are why this gear will be mandatory.
“Not acceptable?”
Unfortunately, you are going to eventually have to accept it and move on.
Nope, he can avail himself of various online buying sites to bring justice.
You asked a question, you didn’t like the answer, so you changed the question. Ok
Isn’t MMO in the name itself? Why is this a debate? Massively multiplayer online. Lol, look to the name.
gw1 isn’t mmo…. lol. its role playing online game only.
You didn’t specify mmos in your question, and yes, it is an MMO.
20%+ higher isn’t slightly. We want justice!
There is no way that you can contort that manifesto to justify this expansion.
Which games isn’t about Grinding? name one pls. other than FPS-type.
Gw1.
flood all online buying sites with complaints and bad reviews. if they can’t sell anything over the holidays, someone will get fired and things will change.
Done; one-star review submitted to Amazon.co.uk, and I’ve up-voted a few other one-star reviews too.
Let’s hit them where it hurts.Metacritic is a good place to vent too. User reviews do mean a lot to developers and currently they have done pretty well in this respect. If their rating starts to drop due to unrest it could have a negative impact on further players buying and joining the game.
I’m not really sure what you hope to accomplish. Attacking Arenanet isn’t going to achieve anything except convince people not to buy GW2, which will lower their income, which will cause them to have to lay people off and ultimately shutter the game. Are you wanting them to FIX the game? Or are you so hostile because of this patch you’re just wanting to destroy it?
If they are smart, they will listen. If not, then yes, sadly, the game could lose sales and be hurt. I only want justice.
It is clear that they want people to shut up and be a good little gamer. Here is a cookie/precursor.Didnt get one to bad shut up -we dont know what we are doing.
Well let me tell ya : I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore- I am going to my windows and opening up a game site and yelling “I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore”.
I will make sure that my voice is heard since they want it to go away. That is how this works.
I advise you to flood online buying sites with your opinions. With lower Holiday sales, perhaps they’ll listen.
