They’ve already stated they’re gonna make obtaining Ascended gear possible for WvW… they just haven’t implemented it right away. Chill, I doubt your server will suffer because a handful of people have a piece (or all 3) Ascended items. Pretty sure it still takes a zerg and some siege weapons to take a point (other than supply depots maybe).

There is very little value in comparing the 2 tiers of items; instead we should compare the effects that these items can have on an entire character. This is nowhere near the 20% you claim, and there is no way my character that has 2 of 3 available asc. is near 20% stronger than yours.

But you cannot have all 18 pieces of ascended gear, only 3. Therefore, 20% per piece means nothing. We must compare the effect to the entire character. Infusion slots are so minor anyway. +5 healing power? +5 vitality? Even in “principle” that someone has an advantage, in real terms they do not. 50 health will never save you, it will never push a loss into a victory for you.

Man its a dying age I hope the world won’t end on december 21 because I really want to see this entitlement generation next years demands in mmo’s . This is the first mmo where you have everything handed to you on a plate and too many options for the casual crowd to get into high end gear. People in here saying they want rollbacks on gear now ? There is a difference between want and need. You can complete all the current content excluding fractals with Exotics. You don’t “need” the ascended items to complete them. But having the stat increase would make it easier and therefore more desirable to have them. At this point it still remains the only thing you “need” Ascended armor for is the infusion to mitigate agony.

In a way, the manifesto is still correct. You don’t need Ascended gear unless you plan to do Fractals past level 10. So you can still see and do the Fractals content up to that point . If you want to continue to progress, at that point you would need to get the available ascended items. Therefore, you don’t need Ascended gear to experience every element of the game. There is no gear treadmill. There is simply an optional Fractals progression and corresponding armor items.
But because these items are better than exotic, people feel they will be forced to grind them to remain competitive with those people who wanted to do the fractals content and have already obtained them.
I just wanted to edit and add that ArenaNet could have avoided this entire fiasco by simply making the new Ascended items have the same stats as regular gear but with Infusion and better looking/more desirable skins. Thus players would have only been affected if they wanted to do Fractals and collect those armor skins. But by increasing the stats, for whatever reason the devs had for doing it, they opened a big can of worms.

Its amazing how a small stat increase on the few items released made all previous dungeon content obsolete, very rare do i see anyone spamming for other dungeons now. Not sure if this was intentional on ANets part.

That’s a grind, not a treadmill. A treadmill is something where you keep running, but never reach the max armor, because they implement a new tier shortly after the last one.
Introducing one new tier is not treadmilling yet. It’s a new grind, yes. But it’s only a treadmill if they keep coming up with new tiers. And only time will tell if this will remain a grind, or will evolve in a treadmill.

If you want to spend that time to get the tiny amount of Ascended gear, feel free. Just know that it won’t make you stronger in WvW or other PvE content. At 80, you need (I think) 25 more of a stat to go up by 1. So the new tier will not affect 1 point, since you can’t reach 25 more of a stat.

It just is not an issue at the moment, unless the next patches introduce more of a full set, and still take that long. Then WvW and PvE will be affected. Which, we have been providing feedback on saying our concerns.
Right now, it is only tied into the Fractals, so it makes perfect sense to take that long. The Fractals are all about going up in level and meant to take time. Otherwise, there is no point to do Fractals or get the Ascended gear. They only synergize with each other.

Its funny that people are complaining so much that they are casual and have too much of a life to play towards earning a new tier. If you’ve got such a busy life then why are you here complaining so much about a game? And its not just simple complaints, some of you are taking it real personal like the whole world is ending. It’s a personal effort after all , if you are a casual gamer who maxed his exotic set and have probably second BiS inslot why would you want ascendant gear for +5+10+20 stat ? Where will you be using that “hardcore” gear , once a week in wvw or the daily dungeon ? It’s the same previous mmo argument and here it comes: play harder ( work harder ) then the rest get an extra edge it’s just like in the real life or is it not ? No one is forcing you to do it you will still be competitive either way. So why cry about an extra +5 stat you don’t need and won’t use ?

The post I quoted from you didn’t say you hated dungeons. It said “forced to grind” for the purposes of keeping up with everyone else.
I pointed out that there are lots of activities that players can grind for an advantage over players that don’t. And I asked if you felt “forced” to do those. Because if you don’t then it’s just being hypocritical. You were deliberately ignoring all of those other factors to shine light on the one you have the latest problem with.
Also, WvW always devolves to running with a zerg or standing on a wall raining AOE. Dress it up as much as you like to feel you are doing something more unique, but that’s what the mode breaks down to.
And the devs have already told us, more than once I believe, that the items will also be available in WvW for the people that spend most of their time there. If you decide you cant get it fast enough that way and need to grind a dungeon for it, that’s your prerogative. But like other posters have mentioned, nothing is forcing you to do anything…except maybe your own feelings of pixel inadequacy in an imaginary rat-race.

People keep asking why people are upset about ascendant gear. Here is a short asnwer.
It has to much impact on PvP and it forces PvPers into PvE. Something that should not happen when a game is so centered around a special PvP area.
It has an impact on
- WvWers.
- People playing with alts.
- People wanting to play some other games for a few months.
- People with little time.
Really, the only ones it doesn’t impact is the stereotypical “I play my main 5+ hours per day” content locust players that frequently pop into this thread to tell everyone how good this change is.

Try attempting WvWvW in 6 months without this gear. It will be at least 20% better than exotics. you will get curb stomped.

Well, more of a waste of time than a game with a gear treadmill is.
So, the locusts get to ruin yet another game with tons of promise and I get to put yet another game studio on my own personal black list.
I think at this point the conspiracy thing is just really wishful thinking. I think that we were just flat out wrong about Anet the whole time.
It has been real and it has been fun, but it wasn’t real fun. I have deleted all links that deal with GW2 now so. I won’t be back. Hopefully one day someone will truly make a MMO for the player.

Also they have said multiple times that ascended will be available via other means(such as WvW and crafting). They just haven’t released it yet.
So do you think we’ll be able to get them with Badges of Honor or Valor in 3-6 months?

I still am kind of baffled this discussion is going on now that the dungeon is out. You can complete up to level 10 in the dungeon without ever seeing Agony or any reason to have Ascended gear. Period. What content is gated? You’ve seen the content. 10 TIMES. Nothing exists for someone who has all exotics vs. someone who has Ascended.
The only legitimate concern I can see here is that it’ll have an adverse (albeit miniscule) effect on WvW, and they’ve already said there will be ways to get it through WvW. How is this even a discussion anymore? We have yet to know whether they will add more tiers (in which case there’s reason to worry since there’s no more time investment gap between Legendaries/Exotics). The only thing they’ve done is keep quiet about whether or not there will be new tiers, likely because of a kittentorm like this one. I’d be paranoid to say anything is out of the question too when I know that there will be a flock of angry forumgoers to man the flame cannons if something goes not according to plan. I’d be extremely surprised to know that there are more tiers beyond Ascended but would be happy to eat my words if there ever is one.
