Interesting Idea on Precursors

in Crafting

Posted by: Cormac.3871

Cormac.3871

At the moment the mystic forge effectively puts a ceiling on the price of precursors, and it does an ok job of that.

What it does not do is offer an individual player a reliable way of obtaining a precursor, because it is played for that one RNG hit. It only makes sense to play the forge if you are wealthy enough to do it large scale so RNG evens out. This is why a token system would be an improvement.

I personally agree that the overall drop rate should not increase. If precursors drop every 100 forges now, make them drop every 200 forges and have 200 tokens buy a precursor. Have forging rares give a token one time in five, but halve the drop rate of precursors there too.

I think there are probably better systems for precursor acquisition mooted (no pun intended), but this one is less soul destroying than the current system where a played can drop 1000 g in the forge and be no closer to getting a precursor than before.

I am still pondering whether or not I think tokens should be tradeable.

I have to admit that I’m scratching my head over this one. I am sure that they could have sold easily twice as many of these if they had priced them at 1000 gems.

Maybe they are just testing the waters to see how irrational the gem buying public is likely to be. Maybe it is something even more cynical, where they offer a good deal like the Zephyrite rescue kit and then offer this one to try and hook people in assuming they won’t do the maths and guess it is of similar value. Or maybe their anticipation of the value of the colour swath was way off because they made long term assumptions before the wardrobe changes were implemented and they haven’t recalculated.

Whatever the case is, they have hurt the reputation of the gem store, which is a shame.

I keep telling myself that going into events like these working for a single drop is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Then I start hoping for a drop so I can make something I like and I rage for days not getting it.

Then I sulk and say to myself “fine I don’t want it anyway, I’ll just use up my last keys and leave!”

Then I get what I was after. And I still complain because I don’t have enough geodes after having bought the clay pot.

In short, I think I need to grow up.

I didn’t think about the crafting rares! Is that less expensive than just buying them at offer price?

For the more desirable items, yes. So staff, greatsword, hammer, sword and dagger (possibly others too, but I’d have to check). My guess is currently if the precursor is over 800 gold then the price of the rare will make it worth crafting.

The floor price for rares is based on the price of ectos, but this is sufficiently low that crafting things like spears and tridents are not worthwhile.

It has been that way as long as I can remember, so it isn’t down to when you crafted them. If I had to guess as to why it is that way I would say that they had a change of heart between weapons and armours as to which pieces they wanted to make sellable, but didn’t want to make any retroactive changes. Or they forgot. Either way it is an unexplained anomaly that has been around for a while.

This game was marketed as a no-grind game (because Anet doesn’t make grindy games), with horizontal progression for cosmetic rewards as end game. I bought into that hype and I’m not at all happy with the direction this game has taken since then. Everything, absolutely everything has gotten more grind as time goes by, and we’re still stuck with either RNG your mats away to obtain a precursor, pull out your credit card, or grind your face off.

But, legendaries are largely cosmetic. Admittedly, that has become slightly less true now that they are account bound, but you can get the same level item with way less grinding. Legendaries have always been there for people who like the grind which is why you can get everything except the cosmetics elsewhere.

Broham is in my opinion a very annoying character. He says things out of left field that contradict how everyone is feeling. Like when you go to stomp scarlet and she asked," dont you wanna know why I did all of this." Of course broham responses says," NO, we don’t like to be pushed around!" REALLY BRAHAM WE DON’T WANNA KNOW THIS VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL ABOUT THE STORY? Then when the master of peace says hes going to leave and braham asked him where is he going then he says no i can’t tel you braham seems totally ok with that? DA FUK he seems like a complete moron.

I agree with you on the first point, but with the master of peace I read it as him being sarcastic.

Braham and Eir's "Reconciliation"

in Living World

Posted by: Cormac.3871

Cormac.3871

It’s funny, but I felt this was the best handled part of the Braham/Eir story. It has been established that Braham feels resentment towards his mother for leaving her. What Eir feels is less clear to me, maybe a mixture of guilt and resentment (for making her feel guilty). So they are not on good terms with each other.

Then they go off and fight together and it goes really well, they are Norns doing what Norns are good at and they do it better than the average Norn. For the first time they are together and nothing feels forced. Then they stop and the things that they felt before are still there, they still haven’t resolved their issues, and are unsure of the other, but they have shared something. So it’s awkward.

Yeah, gets though is gets to the end of the room. Which usually happens when one of those darn spheres spawns on top of my poor head. Generally when I’m using the barrier with staff, I can keep him there for a couple seconds while I hit him with Wave and Sphere, and when it goes down, i drop my aoe on him. usually can get him down by mid room, then back to statue, then back to mender, until something breaks the rhythm then it’s back to the drawing board.

For this sort of content consider using scepter/focus for ranged attacks. Guardian staff is good against multiple opponents at once, but does very little damage against an individual target. Scepter on the other hand is only a single target weapon, but does decent damage. Also, you have the number 3 skill which chains an opponent and is quicker to cast than the line of warding.

Given that it is mentioned in the journal my guess is that they are going to have things come to a head at some stage, either with Taimi taking exception to being thwarted by Rox, or Taimi getting in to trouble doing something that Braham should have stopped her doing.

That prices vary wildly for exotics based on looks and functionality doesn’t bother me. The anomaly is exotic and costs 120 gold because it costs a lot to make and looks good. Why do you think that an exotic with great functionality (ie, can be forged into a legendary) should be cheap?

At the moment Dawn is about the same cost in gold as Gift of fortune. If you have about 1 million karma, a lot of skill points, 500 badges of honour, have world completion and find Ascalonian Catacombs easy, then sure you may as well buy the mats and craft Sunrise. You stand to come out several hundred gold better off doing these things so it’s probably wort the effort unless you only have something like 20% world completion.

Capitalising the initial letter for each word in a title is quite acceptable, and is even recommended style in some areas. One website I use suggests that the proper capitalisation of the movie is “The Wizard of Oz” for instance.

For the record, my pet spelling peeve is “then” rather than “than”. I know that one’s already been done, but it’s worth mentioning again. I also hate it when my iPad autocorrects to “it’s” when “its” is appropriate.

Crafting is ridiculous

in Crafting

Cormac.3871

Crafting exotics is not ridiculous and ascended items are only slightly better in terms of stats. Ascended crafting is meant to be a long term goal for most players, though not as long term as a legendary. The game is getting towards 2 years old and in order to keep players going you have to expect the odd item that is going to take you a month to craft.

There is a base level for rares related to the price of ectos. At 70s I am guessing you are looking at one of the desirable weapons for a legendary. Greatswords, staves, hammers and (I think) daggers have prices dictated by the cost of precursors rather than the price of ectoplasm.

At this stage I would recommend you not rush things until you have eight deldrimor steel ingots crafted. That’s the number you will need for the dagger and you may as well craft them yourself while it does you some good.

Another way of doing things on the cheap is to use dungeon tokens. For any dungeon except CoF you can buy dungeon weapons with Magi, Rabid, Soldier or Shaman stats. Salvage these with black lion salvage kits for a chance to get inscriptions. You’ll probably end up averaging 6 or so runs per inscription, but you’ll also unlock skins and gain ecto’s and dark matter.

Two points Nerelith. Firstly, the gem store has always been “pay to look good”. They have to make their money on something and they decided on cosmetic and convenience items.

Secondly, if you now consider spending time online playing the game to be work, then you also consider things like dungeons armour to be paid armours. In fact all armours by this logic are paid for unless they give them to you for just logging on.

First off, I’m really enjoying the first instalment of LS2, both the story and new area.

One thing however really annoyed me, using aspects in combat. Aspects seem to be more reliable than when first introduced, but they still have a nasty habit of not working as they should 100% of the time. I’m not sure if this is a function of high ping (I’m playing from Australia) or somebody occasionally watching youtube while I’m playing, but the fact is that they don’t always work (even allowing for the fact that lightning jump seems to consistently overshoot). This means that while it’s ok for jumping puzzles putting them in combat makes for a frustrating experience rather than a challenging one.

I’m fine with keeping aspects for things like jumping puzzles, just no more in combat.

1300 is enough to buy The Legend, which is the precursor to Bifrost.

To craft Bifrost look here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bifrost

In short you will need:

A precursor.
500 badges of honour
340 skill points
1 million karma
500 Arah tokens
Lots of material that can be bought with gold.

If I were you I would buy the precursor first (though if you like gambling you can craft rare staves and throw them in the mystic forge to try and get one), then look at gift of mastery. Learn to run at least one explorable path of Arah and craft mystic clovers.

Twilight is much the same except you will have to learn Ascalonian Catacombs.

They should have been ascended. Considering the time involved and the fact that for many, WvW is their endgame, that would have been fitting. Most of us are using ascended anyhow and its not top tier.

PvP tournament players, of course, get legendaries apparently.

Legendary = 2500 gold approx
Exotic = 2 Gold if you are lucky

Don’t need to do the math to see which of these tournaments is more valued.

Yeah, you kind of do have to do the math. Multiply both gold values by the number of people who win a legendary in pvp and those who win an exotic in WvW.

On ruby orbs, remember that players can buy trinkets with zerker stats already using laurels, so don’t expect demand to jump that high.

My guess is that as people level up we will see a bit of a jump in ori and a jump in the price of any exquisite jewel that is cheaper to buy than make.

I am also guessing that people have a few mithrilium in their bank and so there will be more of a spike on t2-4 mats as the time-gate will be bypassed, but that spike will be small as it’s mainly masochists like me who will be crafting up when JC500 comes.

One unanswered question is how they are going to allow jewelcrafters to make stats like Soldiers and Magi. If you like long shots invest in crests.
