For a well rounded class i would recommend either a Warrior or Ranger. Both are fairly easy to play (as far as mechanics are concerned). The warrior can use just about every non magical weapon in the game (except Short bow) and the ranger has a good variety of both melee and long range.
Also a sidenote: Just about every class can fit most roles in a group
(My personal preference is to stay away from the class specific forums. True you may find some helpful info here and there but its mostly people flaming how either the class is useless or how badly it needs a nerf.)
Ive put in a few more looks that ive dabbled with, i dont own the armors but its something that ive had my eye on
(from what it sounds like is you like the barbaric look, so you might like the 2nd one more than the 1st.)
I know I am not a big fashion guy, so I need a little help.
Just to give an idea how terrible I am at making the Warrior look good here’s the current one:

If you feel this is good enough, suggest me some good dye combos please
I have looked at the norn heavy armor gallery but can’t really decide on a good one. The ones that really attracted me were the barbaric and some parts of T2 cultural armor. If there are any bits and pieces of different armor typed I can combine to make a good looking Warrior I ’d really appreciate. I have around 140 Gold and enough transmutation crystals to cover a full armor replacement.

Ok here is my "Main " set that i use for the guardian. its a Mix of T3 Norn Armor (The Chest + Legs) Armageddon aka Karma (Boots, Gloves and Shoulders) and the Primeval (Gem Shop-Helmet)
What kind of armor are you into? I can help you out with some good stuff…
Are you into the flashy stuff ( like the COF armor you have). Or do you want something cool but subtle?
I have a few good sets i use on my norn guardian( uses same armor as warrior) but i wont be able to give you and screenshots until i get home( in maybe 90 min or so).
It doesn’t really make much of a difference, ive played Warrior (Heavy Armor + High Health) Guardian (my main, Lowest HP high armor) and Ele ( my 2nd main Lowest armor lowest HP) and the playstile for each is different. Each class has a way of compensating for the lack of armor or health. While the warrior may have high armor and health he will have to work harder to get that big heal off. Where as a guardian for example will have many ways of mitigating damage either through blocking, or boons or dodge heals.
Ranger is a great class , especially for a begginer. A lot of people do hate on a ranger though but dont let them get to you its a great class. Unlike other classes (thief for example) that have high burst, rangers are about sustained DPS. If you are having a hard time with PVE content get a fat pet out (Bear) and have him tank for you. If you use “Sick Em” you can get it to agro the add 1st while you pelt at it from far away.
As far as Fractals are concearned… basically its a group of mini dungeons so to say that are chained together. Meaning that 1 run in FoTM(Fractals) is either a grp of 3 or 4 of these dungeons (depending on which level you are doing). Its also a level 80 dungeon so you have a bit ways to go before you have to worry about it
Well if you use troll then you shouldn’t use QZ and I find QZ to be too valuable a utility to give up just so I can use a more sustainy heal. Also, you are so glassy anyway if you get hit you will pretty much die so an extra 2k heal won’t help much. Same thing goes for the fern hound. With no healing power on the fern hound you will get the 1k burst heal and then 130hp/s from the regen which won’t amount to much in the end. You’re better off sticking with spider and fear wolf to fear/immob who you’re fighting when you can’t to help mitigate damage instead of trying to heal through it with this build.
Good Point,
Thanks

You deal with conditions with signet of renewal and your heal. That should allow you to eat 2 nasty condi procs (however if you fail a signet clear cause pet is out of range you’re dead). The rest is up to good dodges, stealth, CC, and blocks.
I’m fairly new at playing the ranger (in sPVP) i usally main an ele, so pardon my ignorance….
What about swapping out the heal and Wolf pets for a Troll Unguent + Fern Hound(regen active) combo for sustain ?
For the people having trouble landing Dragon’s Tooth remember you always have useful skills like Updraft and Earthquake to set them up before you light them up. Honestly in spvp Updraft>Dragons Tooth > Phoenix is Lethal
Updraft/Earthquake/Gale do not disable a target long enough for Dragon’s Tooth to hit, as an opponent can still roll away.
This is true, but it does long enough to make a difference. Most of the time when DT hits its a fraction of a sec after they get up. If the person is paying attention or is expecting it they can get up and roll away but its a lot easier to hit them this way ( especially if they are ranged because they wont be trying to roll out of the way most of the time ).
My recommendation is not to worry about leveling quickly, just enjoy the game by playing it. There is much to see. GW2 isnt like a traditional MMO where you have to be at MAX or NEAR MAX level in order to get to enjoy the content, instead its spread out fairly evenly across all levels.
That aside… Easy ways to level are:
Completing Hearts, Map Exploration, Doing Explorable dungeon Runs (each run should give you most of a level … I don’t remember the exact amount but its somewhere around 60-75 % of a level per Explorable path).
Other than that do your personal story or you can even attempt at crafting.
(Oh and Gather everything you see… gathering actually gives you more exp than killing adds)
I just checked the wiki for the Bonfire and to see if any traits increase the radius of the fire. It appears that it Offhand Training would give you something similar to the effect in the video. Although i dont think the radius is still quite as large.
“Off-Hand Training increases the radius to 180, though this is not reflected on the tooltip, and adds a “burnt earth” animation. "
These videos were made back when the game was in development, and were made for theatre purposes to show the mechanics of the class. The skills have changed much since then.
The Ranger skill used is no longer in the game (Spread Shot) and closest skill to it Poison Volley(Shortbow). The Fire AOE is probably an early version of Bonfire ( #5 Torch). It current does not have that big of an AOE. (if you want a very similar skill to that you would have to use Longbow on Warrior and use Combustive Shot)
For the Shield Block, the CD for it is a lot longer now :P
Edit: Added Warrior Bit.

I’m all for 1st person camera… my main is a norn… which means that jumping puzzles are a pain.

After hitting level 80 with everything unlocked I can now say that, elementalist is not a weak class if used correct.
I will admit, at first, I had difficulty leveling this class. I think the reason for the difficulty was, I gave up at least 4 other times and leveled different professions and it took a moment to get used to attunement swapping and finding the correct weapon set that fit my play style.
The more I play this profession and get useful information from experienced elementalist, the easier this profession is to play.
If you’re just starting off and feel frustrated by the profession, have patience and it will pay off.
After leveling a warrior, guardian, mesmer to 80 and thief to 71 ( I’ll get around to the thief one day ) elementalist, for me, has been the most enjoyable thus far.
I agree, i have so many friends that tried to play an ele but gave up before they really gave them a chance . Sadly most of them quit before 20 xD
I personally don’t mind us Eles being the underdogs, but that’s mainly due to me being attracted to classes that not many people play. I (personally) wouldn’t want to go into spvp and seing a cluster of eles the way you see warriors or thieves or mesmers now. I agree that we had a time back in the day when D/D was really strong but its not like we don’t have any viable builds anymore ( we just somewhat have to work a bit harder). And I’m looking forward to the changes to see how Diamond Skin changes things ?
So I play Guild Wars 2 off and on, when I’m on I’m usually on for months at a time, but lately I’ve been finding it harder and harder to come back to. The problem mostly is I don’t have any friends in game, I mean I have a guild…one of the largest in the server (OBEY), but I’ve found with these big guilds that they aren’t really for hanging out and making buddies, its all about business with them mostly. What I really want is a group of gamers or like minded GW2 players to play with on the daily, am definitely willing to switch guilds if they meet the criteria.
I’m in FA, add me and we can do a few dungeon runs now and then if you want.
Your easiest bet is to get Karma Gear(from the temples in Cursed Shore)
karma gear don’t have berserker stats.
Ah you’re right i was just looking over the wiki ( its been a while since i bought any)
For some reason i was thinking soldiers… lol

Make a guardian (joking)
Depends what you’re into ? WvW ? run some dungeons? Gear up to lvl 80 exotics/ ascended. Whatever floats your boat.

The set on this list called Stalwart, anyone knows how I can get it?
The full set not just some pieces of it, and I mean how to get it in pve please
Once upon a time there was a stubborn Norn guardian who wanted a full set of armor (from story rewards) and he simply would take no for an answer, he searched all across the landy of Tyria until he ran into a funny little warrband of Charr that were willing to trade the pieces he was looking for , for a simple little task. (HINT)
Much like anyone above me has stated you can pretty much use anyone you want they don’t make a big diff.
The only thing i would consider (if you really want to get into it) is cross proff combos. So picking classes that have a lot of combo fields and combo finishes.
(EX: Staff Ele for the water fields and SB Thief for Blast Finishers)
a Couple of things,
according to wiki that is a Mesmer only store reward item at 39 and it is soulbound on acquire(meaning you cant transfer it to a diff character)
That is not the only item with that skin, its also called a “Slayer’s Coat” which can be obtained.
Vigil personal story reward for Quaestor’s Siege or Minister’s Defense.
Order of Whispers personal story reward for An Apple a Day.
Durmand Priory personal story reward for Mightier than the Sword.
My recommendation would be to play an Elementalist. The class features a good amount of melee(D/D), medium(Scepter) and long range(Staff) combat. The class is one of the most versatile in the game as you can adapt to any situation with relative ease.
They are in demand for WvW due to all the utility (CC, Heals, Water fields, Static Fields, Reflecting Auras etc.) they bring.
I don’t like doing FoTM personally but ive never had anyone complain about having an elementalist in the party. Also having one in certain dungeons (Ex: Frost bow on Burrows in Ascalonian Catacombs) can make things a breeze.
In sPVP you won’t see many elementalists or at least many good ones, since the D/D meta died out most people stay away from them. I personally still enjoy playing Ele in spvp and there are still viable builds.
The elementalist is not an easy class to learn to play compared to lets say a Guardian or a Ranger and if you decide to make one expect your face in the dirt a few times. But once you learn to play one and play one well it’s a lot of fun
I tend to swap between most utility skills every now and then. Usually i dont use most of the signets ( I use Bane signet for the Knockdown in sPvP). I dont usally use any spirits weapons ( I will occasionally use the Bow for PVE as the active with high heal power heals a ton).
Ah I see. So I’m guessing this like a pure damage build? like a 10/30/30 build?
Not quite,
I’m a firm believer in supporting my team through offense as much as defense. So i put 15 in Radiance (Fav guardian Trait).
ATM its 0/15/30/20/5
I haven’t had a chance to play the guardian since the last patch and am unsure as to how it changed ‘em (busy with college and work). So not sure if it’s viable at all anymore.
I should add too. For leveling do whatever the heck you want. Only when you start doing dungeons should you start trying to get an idea of where you should be headed. Until then, experiment.
@Countzu what is a Dungeon Mediation build these days?
I just run a standard build focused around the trait “Monk’s Focus” and a tripple Meditations depending on who the party/mobs are.
Usually something like Judge’s Intervention, Merciful Intervention and Contemplation of Purity.
Hello,
Just to clarify, you cant mess a class up. The traits you get are not permanent and you can reset them when you go to your trainer.
As far as what skills to get it really does vary especially if youre going with a organised group.
I personally preffer meditation oriented builds for PVE content, but a shout and concentration builds are nice from time to time too.
As far as elites go my favorite is renewed focus ( right behind Bear Form if you’re a norn ). Its actually usefull now because back in the day it was a stationary channel and you couldnt really do anything with it. You would get a lot more use out of it in sPVP and WvW than pve, but its nice to pop it to reset your virtues for that moment when you really need that extra block or extra little heal for the party.
Overall no real way to screw your character up, try different things and see what works best for you.
