Later, I was told that ANET employees can down rate an account so that it gets worse games.
This is just straight paranoia. While Anet can almost certainly change a account’s rating, there is no motive for them to active try to throw players under the bus.
YouTube
So now that you are talking, Gaile, I have a question:
Does ANET punish accounts by downrating them during the season so they get worse games? Was my account so punished? Is that why I got 68 straight losses?
I got inspired by this post. Id give 1k gold to see someone lose 68 games in a row and be able to prove it. I dont think itd be possible even if you tried.
It’s actually not that inconceivable. There has to be at any given point, a “worst player in the queue” that player presumably will be losing nearly all their matches, and if for whatever reason that player is really determined and does not give up, they could end up with a loss streak with no upper bounds.

ahh yes the “if you don’t play the class you can’t comment on it.” argument.
An argument that is completely false. You don’t need to play a class to know it’s capabilities. I know how every single traitline on thief works. I know the capabilities of each of their weaponsets. I know what every single thief utility skill looks like and what it does. I know the exact capabilities of every common thief build both current and past. I can easily figure the behavior and damage profile of any arbitrary thief build and do so on the fly.
Yet I don’t play the class.
The capabilities of both thief and FA ele are well known. Assuming the thief isn’t kitten ing, the thief should beat a FA ele. In a realistic conquest situation where trying to anticipate the alpha isn’t a thing, the matchup is even more slanted in the thief’s favor.
YouTube
I’m not certain but don’t Necros have highest amount of Unblockables, considering this meta?
In terms of damage meditrapper DH has the most unblockable offense. (ToF, LB3, F1)
Necro unblockables are staff marks and wail of doom. However I’m going to point out that staff doesn’t deal much damage and is a pure utility weapon. Most guardians will just shrug off necro marks.
This isn’t to say necros can’t beat guardians. But people need to stop overestimating necro unblockables.
YouTube
(edited by Crinn.7864)
Main problem with thieves is they are the test between what is meta and what is not. If the build can’t deal with a thief than its not worth using. Not the thief’s fault, its just their initiative mechanic offers more damage pressure. Teams with 2 thieves can take advantage of this to quickly kill opponents. Blame anet for wanting unique mechanics when the game was created. Not allowing 2 thieves is just a band-aid fix. What you should be asking is why their mechanic gives them a dps advantage.
Then what was defining meta when nobody was playing thieves in s1 and s2?
(pulls out bucket of popcorn)I was deployed and did not get to play those seasons so I can’t really say.
So you make blanket statement like this without ability to back t up?
Do I need to back it up though? Thief has always played a large role in defining the meta. You think anyone is going to play a berserker lb ranger when a decent thief is around? You think anyone is going to play FA ele when a thief is much more affective?
I am not saying thief is OP by any means. It has plenty of counters. I am saying that it limits builds other classes can play. I will retract my statement that initiative is the reason for it since their are many factors that go into thief being strong vs other dps builds.
Also, quit being a jerk and maybe we can have a constructive conversation.
Yes, you do. And no, thief did not always define meta. As stated before, in s1-s2 nobody played thief. The meta is defined by conquest and whatever is OP atm. You don’t play zerker LB ranger because you will get instagibbed by about anything not just thieves….
Nobody played thief in s1-s2 because in s1-s2 power revenant did everything a thief could do, while also doing everything a warrior could do, while also having the best boonshare in the game.
Now that revenants aren’t Thief 2.0, we are back to what can and can’t be meta being largely determined by thieves.
s1 and s2 where extreme outliers where the meta functioned in a completely different manner compared to all other metas. Just because thief was neglected for two seasons doesn’t mean that thieves should get affirmative action for the rest of the game, otherwise my necro wants affirmative action for being C-tier for the majority of this game’s history.

It’s not something that can be realistically fixed. It’s not a problem with the maps nor is a issue with the skills.
The problem occurs because of how videogames handle collision. Nothing in a 3d world is real. The game determines if objects are colliding by using math (remember high school geometry?) to see if the objects are intersecting each other.
However there is a issue with this. This collision check takes time, which means there is a gap of time between each collision check. Gamers sometimes refer to this as “tick rate”
People get stuck in the wall because the pull or push moves the player so fast that the player crosses the wall’s collision between the servers ticks. In other words the server is watching you, but the server blinks and during that blink you’s passed through the wall’s collision.
YouTube
Don’t exactly remember when or where it happened, but I recall a tournament where the counter to thief was simply “don’t pay attention to it” and that resulted in the win for the team without a Thief…
FeltBadMan.
That was back in the bunker meta when teams could bunk two nodes at the same time, since the bunkers of that era could easily hold nodes outnumbered. This made the rotation game irrelevant.
However with the death of bunkers and the continual nerfs to supports, we are back in the 3-node meta where bunking multiple points simulteaously is no longer a viable strat, and thief is a mandatory pick.
YouTube
Can developers please add one sec COOLDOWN to shroud disable? It is most annoying thing when you accidentally hit button two times and get killed with full life force pool.
No they won’t, they fixed rev facets, and engi turrets but they won’t fix shroud.
Why? Because fixing it mildly inconveniences shroud flashing builds, despite the fact that nobody has used shroud flashing builds in over 2 years.
YouTube
It wouldn’t be as frustrating. It is enough that you are put on team with goldies vs legend players (which shouldn’t be happening on first place), you also get punished at full extend because system assumed it was a fair match.
Does it?
I played two matches yesterday against top 50 players that easily had 100 rating over me. I won one of those matches, and lost the second. I got +16 rating for the win, and -10 on the loss. Which given the rating discrepancies seems appropriate.
Once again, the issue with glicko is that it is based on assumption that teams are even which they are not because gw2 pvp community got killed off by poor handling/decisions.
No it doesn’t. Glicko does not need good matchmaking to work. Glicko wasn’t even designed with matchmaking in mind. Glicko can work just as well with near random matchmaking.
Also blowouts are actually better for getting accurate rating than close matches. Why? Because in a 100-500 match you can definitively say without any doubt that the winning team is better. But a 499-500 match you don’t have a definitive answer to whether one team is better since that 1 point difference hinges on the tiniest of things. Honestly if you want the most accurate rating possible it’d be better to throw out any match with closer than 50 points, however the playerbase would probably riot if Anet ever did such a thing.

For 1 season just try implementing no thief stacking, please.
You are allowing for really awkward situations when both players can’t multi-class
I pretty sure Anet’s solution is too keep nerfing thief counters every patch until thief stacking becomes meta.
LMAO, pretty much. Incoming META in 9 months….. 3 Thieves, 1 Engi, and 1 Guardian. Guess I’m going to have to start learning Thief now aggh..
This is actually wrong. Anet has been buffing thief counters (see DH patch notes) and nerfing thief every patch so far after initial buff to AA (once again read patch notes). The only reason why thief is viable again is because we moved away from bunker horror of s1 and revs got nerfed thus allowing thieves to play again. This will probably all change anyway once xpac comes out.
The number of nerf/buff doesn’t matter, what matters is the class’s position in the metagame. Every single patch in the last year has moved thief up in the metagame.
The most recent major balance patch was a buff to thief despite including thief nerfs. Why? Because the stability change combined with the introduction of Sigil of Absorption made thieves far more effective.
Also DH hasn’t been buffed in over a year, idk what you are tripping on.
Read patch notes /facepalm
No DH uses a staff. The buffs in prior patches only affected core guard and not DH.

In order to not inflate the population above a certain rating, they have adjusted the ratio of gain to loss to be so harsh to maintain the percentage of players they want in each league.
No, I’m sorry, but no that’s not how it works.
You gain less from winning at higher tiers because you’re typically going to be playing against players worse than you most of the time. If you where to say play against a team comprised entirely of higher rated players you’d gain more from winning then you’d lose from losing.
However if your in or near the top 250 the probability of you encountering a equal or better rated team is very low. And no it’s not a population problem, because the top percentile will always be the top percentile regardless of population size.
Also there are many articles about glicko and matchmaking that can be found with google searches. So there is no excuse for players to keep spouting these fearmongering wives tales.

Having just condi stat and expertise does not give you damage parity with a full berseker’s power build.
Condi builds still do 20% to 40% of their damage in power. Also most condi builds have on-crit traits making precision necessary.
For a condi build to get damage parity with berserker’s they need to have viper’s, which is a fully offensive stat allocation.

Open world, no profession is very complicated. In fact almost every enemy you can just stand in front of an autoattack to death with no skills or dodging.
While this is strictly true, it’s rather misleading. For many classes such as Mesmer, Ele, Engi, and most condi builds, autoattack spam is extremely poor damage and most people including the extreme casuals will end up pursuing more complex rotations simply so they don’t waste as much time killing trash mobs. Thief being the one exception here since autoattack spam is highest dps.
I also disagree about thief in sPvP. Mesmer, Druid, and Rev are significantly more demanding classes in terms of mechanics, rotations, and map awareness. Most of thief’s skill requirement comes from knowing what to dodge and what to interrupt, and rotations. However none of those things are unique to thief, and thief has a far easier time managing those things than other classes.

The very fact that they said they are discussing the option of more revealing male armor/outfits highlights how conservative they are in this area as they feel armor that shows male skin requires discussion in a way that armor that shows female skin does not.
Supply and demand. Do you really need that to be explained to you?
So the problem then is that men don’t want to have exposed skin in a video game? And why is that? What is it about exposed male skin that there isn’t a demand for it? As a female I have no problem with exposed female skin. If it’s supply and demand, why do men shy away?
Because men are generally valued by how successful they are and how much power they wield, rather than by physical attractiveness and approachability.
In human culture, the more skin you show the less power you have. This is why businessmen and politian’s always wear full long sleeved suits even in the middle of Florida summer.

It may have been your opinion you were trying to express but it came across as fact.
Which is irrelevant. In a debate you argue on the merits of your opponent’s statements, regardless of whether those statements are a opinion, statistical fact, or a vociferous diatribe. -Malice + Geomancy are the best sigils for the pve meta build (on both weapon sets) while Berserker rune are the most damaging, but i suggest you to run hydromancy sigil and keep Krait runes if you can’t get an ascended gear, only for budget.
Just wondering how exactly Geomancy could possibly be better than Hydromancy sigil. Hydro is a soft CC that triggers Deathly Chill for 3×5 s bleeds, whereas Geo is just a 10 s bleed.
Geomancy is 3 stacks of bleed for 10 seconds.

Don’t sweat it. When PVP’ers who championed this change don’t get players to fill out teams they will only have themselves to blame for even longer wait times. And Anet don’t change things back unless it really breaks the game.
Have fun “serious PVP’ers” with the choice you asked for.
Somehow I doubt the daily room players where going to be filling out my team. The whole point of the daily rooms was so that players could complete PvP dailies without the PvP. Why would a player that wants to avoid doing pvp be interested in filling out my pvp team?
YouTube
According to what?
I elaborated it in this post a bit more:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/this-cadeceus-fight/first#post6551985
and apparently, I’m not alone with this opinion.
The caduceus fight is not a example of Nintendo hard. While difficult, all of the fight’s mechanics are telegraphed.
For something to be Nintendo hard it has to have mechanics that can not be avoided without prior knowledge of those mechanics. Tribulation mode on SAB is a good example of Nintendo Hard. However I was able to 1-shot the caduceus fight, which indicates that it’s not Nintendo hard.
Anet is fairly good at avoiding Nintendo hard. The only real examples of Nintendo hard in the game are SAB (where it’s intentional) and a few of the raid mechanics.

DH has 4 actually: Medibow, Symbol, Shattered Aegis, and Burn.
Then you have my mesmer build which just bombs teamfights and runs Paladin, along with no Portal/Blink since taking one of those ruins the fight potential.
You can’t use some obscure build that you use as evidence of build diversity. Also Burn guard is awful after patch because it has no cover conditions.
I see more burn DH in plat than I do Symbolic and Shatter Aegis guards put together.
Also burn DH does in fact have cover condis.
Also we all know warrior is in a bad spot, but please stop trying to drag discussions about other classes into the abyss of your despair.

My guess for what the OP was doing is Dailies, which is a very bad idea to shackle oneself to. If a daily is frustrating, those 10 AP, 3 Spirit Shards and 2 gold is simply bot worth it!
Given that the OP has been posting vociferously on the PvP forums for years, and has constantly complained about both ranked and unranked, I’m pretty sure he is much more dedicated to sPvP than simply wanting dailies. I’m also fairly certain based on his comments in the pvp forum that he does not perform well and might have some handicap that is inhibiting his ability to be competitive with other players even after all his experience in the mode.

lel
It was possible, you just needed stab. That said, it’s silly strong and I fully expected it to get changed somehow.
Well you needed a crazy amount of it. The daze ICD is not shared between instances of choking gas. So if you put three of them on a down, anyone trying to rezz would have their stability ripped at 3 stacks a second.
Also thief does have a stability rip in the form of steal.

BS that it can’t be fixed. More than likely it would be resource intensive, and people prefer to create new content vs troubleshoot bugs like this. Unless people really start pitching a fit it won’t get fixed.
No it’s not easily fixable. Every single game struggles with this, it’s why the “player fell through terrain” is a bug that occurs in almost every game in existence.
However if they made it so that objects only had single sided collision rather than double sided collision, a player launched into a wall would simply be able to walk out.

In my opinion, the writer(s) of the lore is/are heavily influenced by the Star Trek universe. We have insanely powerful beings there, some very close to what we can call Gods (see the Dowds, The Traveler, 0 (zero), Q) to name only a few. Even the Greek Gods are explained in the Star Trek. What are they: powerful beings, having a lot of knowledge, inter-dimensional (or trans-dimensional). Some can travel in time. What all the beings have in common: They are not able to Create. They are not the Creator(s). They live in an universe not created by them and, when talking with a civilization advanced enough to understand them, they admit they are no Gods. The lifespan of these beings is long enough to be considered immortals by the common livings. But they can be defeated (by opposing them a greater force or by tricks).
This is exactly the definition of the Tyrian gods: powerful (inter-dimensional) beings, having a lot of knowledge, having a long lifespan, but not the Creators of the World. They can be defeated (even by humans).
On the other hand, by the way the Tyrian human “gods” act, we can make an analogy with the Angels in the Christian mythology: The angels were created by the GOD as a bridge between HIM and the humans, they are watching the humans and were granted with great powers by the GOD (as the Tyrian “gods”). They can interbreed with the humans (as the Tyrian “gods”). They can become fallen angels (as the Tyrian “gods”) by doing wrong actions. They can be defeated and banished (as the Tyrian “gods”).
I’m pretty sure the Six are not derived from any combo of Christianity and Star Trek. The Six are derived from the Greek Pantheon. There are simply too many parallels. For example the destruction wrought when the Gods first gave magic to the humans parallels the Greek legend of Pandora almost perfectly. The interaction between the Six and the humans mirrors how the Greek gods behaved. Moreover the Six gods each having different domains mirrors how the pagan gods have different domains. Christianity has none of those properties.
Also PSA to the people in this thread. It’s “god” not “God” you only capitalize god if you are using god as the name. The only religions where you actually use “God” as a proper name are the three Abrahamic religions. A member of the Six is referred to as “a god.”

I understand the usage of necro and also why it is in the current meta… Ele and necro (both meta class combinations also) are some of the best , if not THE BEST duo you can bring onto a team when played by good players and alone could carry team fights alone for cap coverage.
You don’t understand. You don’t bring a necro because you’re bringing a ele. You bring a necro because your opponent will always have a ele.
Necro is only brought to 5s because necromancer is the only class capable of bringing down support ele and bunker engi in a timely manner, since time is everything in conquest.
In pugland where supports are uncommon, necro is trash. No need to have a support killer when the enemy has no supports.
Every class has roles , if you haven’t understood that about PvP yet I would suggest first by learning that first.
Necros don’t complain about our role. Necros complain because we have limited agency in our survivability. We are dependent on our team providing enough support, and applying enough counter pressure for us to be effective. You can’t carry on a necro.
YouTube
except necro is in close to every top tier team and is meta despite bad necro players wanting to acknowledge the truth and continually call their class bad
Except no necro build uses any of the things that where buffed.
Also as for necros in 5s. I suggest you do some research on why necro is used in 5s, and the comp and rotation requirements of using that necro. If you do you might realize why the necro community’s complaints still have merits.
YouTube
Honestly it’s fine. It’s only crowded because it’s the new shiny toy. Once the novelty wares off it won’t be so bad.

i wouldn’t say blood magic is objectively that bad these days.
Curses would be a better slot over blood magic for power necro in sPvP. The only reason to ever use blood magic is for a well heavy build.

It shows that they aren’t fully cognizant of how the changes they make in one class affects another class.
But Elixer X isn’t related to plague at all.
old Plague was a corruption skill that granted a transform.
Elixer X is a elixir skill that grants 1 of two possible transform.
There is a difference between Plague the corruption skill, and Plague the transform.
Transforms aren’t class unique, just as boons and condis aren’t class unique. The plague transform was never changed, Anet just removed the transform from the corruption skill.
YouTube
This solves the damage problem.
You’ve added more damage to the build yes. But warriors and guards will still offer better damage while also bringing other tools to the table. Against a bunker or a support, you’d effectively be hitting your face on a wall with that build.
A necro needs to be packing debuffs and corrupts otherwise the necro is a wasted slot better filled by another class.
YouTube
Why?
Yes you’ve solved the necro survivability problem, but now you’ve got the problem of your build having no real point.
You’re not packing corrupts or much damage so bunker/support killing is out. 1v1 is out because it would take too long. You don’t have the capabilities to force a decap. You don’t have the mobility to roam.
The only role that your build work for is bunking a point, however it’s inferior to scrapper and guard for that role since your build is far more vulnerable to being decapped on due to the lack of stability.
Your build isn’t bad, but it doesn’t bring anything to your team that couldn’t be done better with a different class. Which begs the question of “why?”
