Farming the Giant outside Arah

in Dynamic Events

Crossplay.2067

Personally I feel this is a problem Anet created. When ascended, legendary and even exotics need 100 to 250 of a rare material, you’re going to have farmers. I’m not talking about gold farmers. I mean legitimate people that WANT to gain each and every piece for their “shiny” the hard way. As crazy as that is to most of us, me included, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, Anet keeps taking away their farming areas and there’s something seriously wrong with that.

I understand that they want to get rid of goldfarmers and I can respect them for that but it should NEVER be at the expense of legitimate players! There’s a point where all the restrictions end up doing more harm than good. I don’t care how many graphs they show me or what convoluted, algebraic equations they toss my way to prove otherwise. The fact that Cursed Shore and Southsun Core are nearly empty while Queendale has a healthy population shows that they have clearly crossed that line and it is hurting the game.

Basically, the average player doesn’t like challenge and would rather take the quickest and easiest route to the “end game” so they can whine and cry about how there’s nothing else to do. Er, that’s also quick and easy.

I think it’s more about risk vs reward. The high-end zones have almost been completely stripped of loot (and I can’t believe ANY dev would do that to their own game!) so people flock to whatever is the next best thing. If you get tired of running CoF1, you have world bosses that are stupidly easy to kill and guarantee a rare.

If people really wanted the easiest route, they would play another game. There are too many split second decisions in this game to be considered “easy”. As much as people wish to claim that it is, starting areas are the only place I can auto-attack mobs and go afk with little worry. Even then, I can’t do that to all mobs or even a group of 3+. However, there are other MMOs where I can auto-attack, actually get up and use the bathroom and then come back to finish fighting. That is what I consider easy.

Has GW2 ruined other mmo's ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crossplay.2067

Guild Wars 2 has ruined other games for me because of one, simple thing – combat. I’ve always been a fan of WoW’s open world where it’s theoretically possible to walk from one end of a continent to another and never see a load screen. I sorely miss that. What I don’t miss is buffing up, auto-attacking a common mob, leaving the computer to use the bathroom and coming back to finish the fight. And I did that on a priest. That just shouldn’t be possible. I also don’t understand why so many people loved the first Guild Wars. Granted I have a… sorted… history with the game do dating one of their network managers and that relationship ending very badly. However, I found the combat to be no different than WoW. I stood still and pressed a few buttons in a specific order. It was so “engaging” that, even when under-leveled, I fell asleep no less than 3 times getting from Kaineng’s docks to the city’s center.

This game also has a far better leveling system than any other I’ve come across. I LOVED City of Heroes but it took me 3 years before I got 6 characters to max level. Here it took 6 months.

And then there’s the music! Need I say more?

This game does a lot of things wrong. Temporary content that isn’t seasonal, RNG used to cultish levels and the devs in charge of profession balancing are the biggest issues. However, it’s getting close to a year and I’m still here. I only played WoW for 7 months.

Ascended gear Acccount bound/unsoulbindable

Fours hours isn’t enough. Maybe four days is enough, but two weeks is much better.

If it was longer than a 12 hour period, you could just keep it in a constant transfer phase and just make it whatever stat you want whenever you want.

Considering it takes at least 20 days to buy something with laurels, I don’t see a problem with that. Personally, I would prefer all ascended gear to be account bound so, if you find a particular piece doesn’t work for one character, you can at least put it on another. I’m also in agreement with the OP about anet nerfing builds. Right before the confusion nerf, I was strongly considering making a glamour build just for wvw. My mesmer is my main and, if I had started using laurels for ascended pieces for the build and got hit with that nerf, I probably would have quit the game.

I am also voicing my opinion, yet again, that this was a stupid nerf. If Anet was truly concerned about new players not understanding how confusion worked, they should have given it to pve mobs or reworked a skill point or two to explain it, not nerf the hell out of it. Dumbing down the game for new players just makes a game dumb. It’s laughable that they’re trying to turn pvp into a serious e-sport while doing stuff like this.

Yes, they drop rares with a ridiculously small chance at exotics. For those of us that are tired of running CoF1 until our eyes bleed, this is a decent alternative. Since you don’t have to build a party for meta event bosses, it’s even better for people that prefer to play solo.

Personal-CLASS-story

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I agree that professions should affect story missions but, to save on resources and to do it in a more realistic manner, not every class needs to have an alternative for every fork in the road. For instance, take the human story mission where you need to infiltrate a bandit lair to find out their plans. I feel a better way of doing that would be giving all professions two options. The first is to kick the door down and crack some heads together until you get answers. The second would be meeting one of them at a bar and getting them drunk enough to talk. After that, you get some alternatives based on your profession.

If you’re a thief, you get the option to use stealth skills to sneak in and using the shadows to stay undetected while your skills are on cooldown. Eventually you’ll have to steal the plans off of a high ranking member and get out without being caught.

As a mesmer, you have the option of disguising yourself and a clone as bandits to sneak in. Then you have to keep switching between yourself and the clone to gather up info and piece their plan together.

No other profession would have an alternative choice but, during the next fork, perhaps the warrior and ranger get alternatives while the rest have to choose between the two defaults. I also believe that gender, race and social standing should play factors in alternative choices. Granted these alternatives will come to the same conclusions but the personal story is more about the journey than the destination. Also, people will be more motivated to play through it a second time just to see how different things are with other options.

I also feel the last thing this game needs is more dumbing down or we’ll end up with something similar to confusion’s ridiculous nerf.

Sanctum sprinter guide & tips on gaining gold

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I can’t use the Sanctum Sprint as a gold farm because it’s buggy. There have been times when I was clearly standing on an aspect mural, pressed the appropriate button and nothing happened. Then, because nothing happened, I ran straight off the edge. Then there are particular spots where the wind aspect triggers but I don’t jump. This usually happens to me 6 times in a row. And then there are the times when I get knocked off but don’t fall to the bottom so I have to jump off the edge on purpose. I can’t even begin to tell you how embarrassing it is to go from first to 9th place, not because of other players but because the controls just don’t work as intended. In fact, I’ve never gotten a first place win, even though I’m almost always in first place for the first half of the race.

I love the concept of Sanctum Sprint. It reminds me a lot of Mario Kart but, until it’s properly fixed, it’s too frustrating to play for anything more than achievements.

Most of the Mesmer’s defense is active. You have to know when to blink, block, dodge, blur, distort, stealth, mimic and/or swap with clones. Some even use portal while in combat. Once you get use to all that, you will literally be dancing around your opponents. One thing to keep i mind though. Always assume your opponent knows which one is the real you. That can be a life-saver.

I favor the Thaumanova Reactor for one simple reason – Even though Abaddon’s Fall would be far more interesting, a 20 to 30 minute fractal won’t come anywhere near doing it justice. I want to see how it starts, how it progresses and how it ends in as much theatrical flare as possible. I want it to be a full campaign and I’m more than willing to pay for it.

The Thaumanova Reactor, on the other hand, can be done in the usual time frame. My thought is we enter just as it reaches critical mass and have to escape before it goes boom. Throw in some new, exciting gimmicks, slap a bow on it and call it done.

Magic Find [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

You guys seem to have missed what was stated. Magic find isn’t completely being dumped into achievement rewards. It’s being taken off armor (hopefully weapons too) and focused more on consumables. From what I understand, these consumables will stack but you will need more to achieve higher stacks.

tl;dr: You get to have your cake and eat it too.

Don’t even begin to think I’m a fanboy. These days I am highly skeptical of anet’s actions, especially the devs in charge of class balancing and the idiots that keep putting rare skins in rng chests. That being said, I’m not going to start whining or jumping to conclusions until I see what they replace magic find stats with and how these new magic find consumables will actually work.

Fix legendaries effects and account bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I agree that they should be accountbound simply because of how much effort goes into making one. It makes no sense to bind it to one character when many of us use multiple characters to make one.

I also second getting them off the trading post. There’s nothing legendary about buying a legendary. I will make one exception to this. If they were placed in the gemstore for like $250 a piece and account bound, I would give anet the evil eye but then turn a blind eye to it. If someone has that much disposable income and decide to use it all on a virtual item, that’s their business and they can pretty much do it already.

A refined idea for Defiant

in Suggestions

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I would like to see Defiant changed to where powerful, raw damage attacks charges it but conditions and condition damage weaken it. As Defiant grows, champions will hit harder and nondamaging conditions like slow, cripple and immobilize will have shortened durations until, at max defiant stacks, they no longer work. On the other hand, an all condition team could apply enough of them that Defiant turns into Enfeebled; a state where champions do a lot less damage and all condition durations are eventually doubled.

My thought process behind this is to give players the opportunity to fight as they see fit. For instance, a hardcore team wearing full berzerker armor will be able to kill a champion in seconds but at the risk of one-hit downs and one mistake potentially causing a team wipe. On the other hand, those whom go full condition damage will severely weaken champions, thus making their defensive stats more useful but, since condition damage naturally isn’t as potent, the cost is a prolonged fight.

I see this implemented in a few very simple steps. First, all champions have their HP lowered as huge health bars won’t be as necessary and those whom decide to stack defiant shouldn’t be exposed to prolonged fights. In my personal opinion, heavy hitters should be able to kill a champion in 15 to 45 seconds while those that favor conditions take 75 to 120 seconds. Second, Defiant is rebalanced to allow conditions but shorten their durations when it has higher stacks. Third, higher stacks changes enemy AI to where they go after the damage dealers, not those with the most toughness. And Fourth, Enfeebled, working as stated above

Best of all is that the rewards for this are superficial but still worthwhile. Those whom wish to play hard and fast can and brag about how fast they can do particular pieces of content. Those whom prefer a safer and slower approach can do so as well with the benefit of knowing that their defensive stats serve a purpose.

The only foreseeable issue is what happens when players from these two aspects try to party together. The only answer I have for this is to balance the way defiant works so that it takes a lot more effort to push from 24 stacks to 25 than it does from 10 to 11 and likewise with enfeebled. This will allow a mixed team to reach an equilibrium suitable for them.

I’m looking for constructive criticism on this. Do you see issues that I don’t? Would you prefer this method?

100% Map completion solo ?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I did it solo and my story is similar to others. I was level 80 nine days after the pre-release and the only reason it took that look is because I was completing each map I came across. Back then, Orr was hell but it was far more populated so it wasn’t that hard to max. There is one skillpoint in Cursed Shore that’s guarded by a champion and I know you will have trouble with it. While it can be soloed, you have to be on the top of your game to do so. It’s much easier to sneak by it and grab the skillpoint before it walks back into aggro range.

WvW, is an entirely different matter. I remember my guildmate telling me that at one point, we had all 4 battlegrounds and I didn’t bother to grab all the stuff I needed then because I hate WvW for the most part. That was one of the dumbest things I have EVER done! I was on Crystal Desert then and we were at the top of the T3 rotation. However, we would then move to T2 and be the prison kitten of Blackgate and Isle of Janthir. It took 45 to 60 days more for me to complete WvW areas and I hated every second of it. It’s also the reason why I refuse to do map completion again.

Options for a "single atunement" approach?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I feel Jedi’s pain. The core issue with the class is that it’s expected of EVERY elementalist to do the attunement tango. The fact that so many players here support it (and some to the point of cult-like levels) while continuing to desire build variety is mind boggling. That’s like insisting all mesmers use all of their shatters or expecting guardians to burn their virtues as soon as they are off cooldown.

If you really want to be different than the ele standing next to you then you should be demanding attunement-focused builds and the ability to swap weapons while in battle. The fact that so many are reliant on 30 Arcane, not so much for the traits, but for attunement cooldown should be a huge red flag! Not everyone has or even wants to be the avatar. Some of us just want to be Zuko. Or Katara. Or Toph! Yes, PLEASE let me be Toph!

But I that’s not what was asked so I’m putting my soapbox away now.

The sad truth, Jedi, is that while you can stay in one element, the class is balanced around you being able to jump to another at a moment’s notice. I have a build I call the Mightmancer that sticks to fire and works fairly well… until you try to solo something that’s better fought at range. Until Anet and half the guys here wake up and realized that build variety would burst open at the seams the moment they lose the “Jack of all Trades” gimmick, you’re doomed to homogeny.

Why Devs FAVOR mesmers.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

First, mesmers cannot stay steathed after an attack. Even if one of our clones attacks you while we are in stealth, we will instantly be revealed. It’s one of the biggest flaws to our #2 down skill.

Second, clones are easier to kill than pve mobs in Queensdale. Just let the aoes fly. For example, when I was running a full Rabid mesmer, I had considerable trouble dueling with a thief that used a shortbow. The autoattack would constantly kill my clones while sometimes hitting me as well.

Third, one of the very first nerfs mesmers received is a hit to the length of our stealth abilities. That was when it was OP. Now stealth is only used to break target-lock and for setups. That is a matter of player skill, not class skills.

Fourth, mesmers are DESIGNED to be a pain in the kitten to duel! If you really want to win against one you need to play one, learn how the skills work and learn how to exploit the weaknesses.

Fifth, the fact that you even think devs favor memsers shows your extreme lack of awareness. I’m hard-pressed to think of a class that has been nerfed more than us or even harder than us. Granted, I don’t keep up with engineers or rangers but all the other classes haven’t had to bend over and take it like we do. Hell, Portal alone has been nerfed on at least 3 separate occasions!

If the devs had a favorite, it would be warriors.

Personally I feel that confusion should be changed because it pretty much does the exact same thing retaliation does but from a different perspective. I really don’t see the idea of having both, especially now since they have both been nerfed. However, changing confusion into an interrupt condition would make full interrupt builds viable. Keenlam’s addition of duration instead of intensity would make it more fair. I say no damage because that can be acquired by traits. This would encourage a different kind of support build, one that focused on locking down an opponent.

Would you prefer confusion if, instead of causing damage, it interrupted your opponent’s next action? That would even be useful in pve against bosses and it would really make Halting Strike shine.

For an hour after the patch installed, I watched youtube videos while asking myself, “why should I bother to sign in when they keep pulling this crap?” Anet swears up and down that they’re listening to us but the majority of feedback that I’ve seen is completely ignored.

Are the Last Few Releases Filler?

in Living World

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I would say you’re both right and wrong. You are right about the recent plots not having much impact. The Aetherblades show up out of nowhere and interfered with a festival that’s about uniting to overcome the overwhelming threat of the elder dragons. Then they only get a dungeon, a jumping puzzle and occasionally pop up in very remote locations around the world. Worst of all, there’s no lasting impact. The world really hasn’t changed except for some pirate councilor dying and that was so trivial, I can’t even remember his name. If they really wanted to make an impact, they should have killed off a member of Destiny’s Edge, Queen Jenna or even Trehearne (though that will likely be met with fanfare) then have Lion’s Arch on high alert while an Aetherblades dynamic event has a chance to spawn in any highly populated area, including cities. That would have got people talking and made one thing clear: no character has plot armor.

That said, I must also insist that you’re wrong because stories need peaks and valleys. You can’t have something exciting happen every single update because it will be expected to be topped the next time. This pushes the creators to constantly clamor for something bigger and better, which always ends in stories ramping up to ludicrous proportions. It happens in shounen anime all the time. Dragon kitten, Fairy Tail and Naruto are extremely guilty of this. Bleach is the worst of the bunch as, when it began, it had a very good flow and focused on flushing out the main characters’ personalities, life views and aspirations . Eventually though, a female because the token damsel in distress while the main character suffered the incurable, “I must become stronger,” mental illness that affects every lead of the genre. That always ends up with said lead being able to blow up entire cities or even planets, just to be on the level of a villain whom had to be powerful enough for the audience to perceive him as a threat.

In short, bigger does not mean better. Downtime is needed calm down from the last story’s climax.

Timewarp is insanely powerful. When I was with the Meguuma Mesmer Mafia, we staggered it over 3 omega golems when attacks forts. Basically a team of 10 mesmers are able to take out walls and gates in 45 seconds while it takes a zerg of 30 at least 2 minutes. Now that it’s been nerfed, the same tactic will probably take a little more than a full minute but that’s still impressive.

As for Mass Invisibility, it’s been used to gank and flank zergs to devastating degrees. In 1-on-1 battles, it synergizes with other invisibility skills, allowing mesmers to constantly break target lock. If used with a phantasm build, it would be very hard to beat.

As for Moa Morph… I don’t see why it’s an elite. To me, it’s just a troll skill. When it worked on pve champions, it could potentially prevent a wipe but even that aspect has been nerfed.

A torment would be nice but, honestly, I have no complaints about Chaos Storm.

Find another goal. I’ve been soloing champions. There’s one in Cursed Shore guarding a skill point that I have yet to best. I know it’s possible as I’ve gotten him down to half health. The great thing (or sad thing, depending on how you look at it) is no one ever fights the guy so he’s always there.

Bunker build?

I’m going to disagree on Blazin’s facetanking comment. With the right build, you can literally facetank veterans and a handful of champions. I use full cleric armor and traited for healing symbols. I also use “Hold the Line” and “Save Yourselves” for the regen plus 6 runes of the soldier for condition cleansing. When the situation calls for it, I use mango pies. For damage, I spec for retaliation uptime and boon duration then I abuse combos that give retaliation. There may be a few other traits but all this amounts to a lot toughness and a lot healing.

If I’m careful with my shouts, I can literally stand toe-to-toe with the Champion cave troll in a war of attrition. I have taken on 8 to 9 risen at once and always lived to tell the tale. Today I fought a champion orc with a constantly respawning vet and 2 or 3 regular mobs without breaking a sweat. Veteran risen giants can make me a little nervous at times but I have yet to fall to one. As for the Searing Effigy, I purposely stand in front of his flamethrower attack just so he rapidly triggers retaliation. With another guardian or heal-specced ele, I have to remind myself to dodge to help heal them, not to avoid damage.

I can’t take on all champions. There’s a particular one in the Cursed Shore guarding a skillpoint and flat out embarrasses me if I come close. Still, I would say guardians can do some amazing things. And I haven’t even tried Altruistic Healing yet.

Mesmer portal: a Liscence to Steal

Keenlam, Last time I checked, I could use portals underwater. However, the skill has to be on your underwater skillbar to use it. It is possible that you didn’t have it equipped when you jumped in. I’ve done that a few times. The good news is, you can swap it in even after opening the entrance portal.

Mesmer portal: a Liscence to Steal

I really shouldn’t add to this discussion but I’m bored and there is a lot of ignorance about portal that needs to be cleared. There are a LOT of restrictions on this skill, which is why I find it ludicrous to ask for more.

1. Portal’s entrance and exit can only be placed at the feet of the Mesmer. This means the mesmer has to go through whatever situation they want to allow their allies to skip. This includes jumping puzzles, dungeon traps, walls to WvW camps… You name it.

2. The entrance portal has a 60 second time limit. If the exit isn’t created within that time limit, the entrance will disappear and the skill will go on cooldown. This means that the mesmer is under pressure in certain situations. This is also why most start at the end point and rush to get to their allies, even if said allies are only a few jumps away.

3. There is a limit as to how far apart portals can be. If the mesmer goes beyond this limit and opens the exit portal, they won’t link together. As a side note, there is no indicator for how far this limit is so it can be easily overshot. Every memser has to ballpark it and hope for the best.

4. When portals are connected and active, they require confirmation of use, even for the mesmer that made them. If you don’t want to use a portal, you don’t have to.

5. Portals are only active for 10 seconds. I can’t think of anything more frustrating than opening a portal specifically for people, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, and they kitten for over 10 seconds.

6. Portals can only tranport 20 people. Granted, I’m a pve person so I’ve never hit this limit. I don’t know exactly what happens after it’s met but I do know the counter is there and what it is intended to do. It’s kind of annoying that this was added but not a way to measure the distance. But I digress.

7. Portal has a ridiculous 90 second cooldown (72 when traited) that makes is very unwieldly for personal use. This cooldown starts after the portals fade too. This makes sense in WvW and PVP but in PVE, there’s nothing to do but twiddle your thumbs and wait. This too causes many problems as the urge for a person to lose all common sense skyrockets during these 90 seconds.

On a personal note, I can’t understand why anyone whom wants to do jumping puzzles the legit way would ever complain about those that don’t. Remember the Clocktower jumping puzzle? My experience with it is having to deal with a huge norn and char, both of the warrior class. The Char was just your normal, everyday player trying to enjoy content but the norn… Ugh, the norn… This guy wore biggest pale pink shoulder pads available and always, and I do mean ALWAYS ran right in front of me. It’s bad enough that I’m not the best puzzle jumper and the tower didn’t give me much time to prep every jump. Then I run into this guy that makes me mad enough to punch a baby. Oh, it gets worse. He was doing it on purpose. He admitted he wore the most obtrusive armor he could find just to make things harder for those around him and there was nothing I could do about it because he wasn’t breaking any rules. Sadly, being a jerk isn’t against the law or the game’s terms of service. And it still gets worse. He was ALWAYS on! At 3 am, he and his gender-questionable shoulder pads were still there, mocking me! To this day, I was never able to get to the top of that tower.

Why did I bring that up? Simple. People that portal to the end of jumping puzzles get what they want and move on. This leaves those that wish to do it legitimately. Wouldn’t you prefer to have less char and norn getting in your way when you have to do those stupidly hard precision jumps? I certain hope you’re not fond of annoying players with nothing better to do than troll for hours on end.

Dude, we get it. You like the scepter. I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is that you can’t seem to accept that others don’t like the scepter. You can argue your points until you’re blue in the face but that won’t matter to me. I go by my own opinion and my opinion is, the last time I used the scepter, it sucked. Now if you can actually show me a build that makes it shine and, more importantly, appeals to my enjoyment, then I’ll lend you my ear. Until then, I say the scepter sucks. You’ll just have to agree to disagree.
