What about a shortbow?!?!?!

So we can shoot unicorns while our clones explode in butteflys?? Yay for being a 1 man zoo!!!

You know what’s wrong? I would come back, work twice as hard to get the Dreamer and would rock it everywhere I go, even shortbow skills for mesmers sucked! There’s something about shooting rainbow unicorns at enemies that’s so insulting and humiliating that I just can’t give up the opportunity!

I think the problem is they don’t give the elder dragons any character. It’s hard to imagine anything as immense, powerful and as old as they are don’t have any personalities. They should at least have motivations for what they are doing and I would LOVE to hear it directly from them!

Besides, if Anet really wanted us to fight a force of nature, they could have been hurricanes like Jupiter’s Red Eye.

Would you guys still be mad if she showed up under your tree dressed only in a ribbon?

I would likely go blind after my eyes bled out and, after weeks of recovery in a hospital, be transferred to a psychiatric ward where I would be treated for PTSD. My loved ones would come to visit me every week for over a year, weaping and consoling one another as they left, unable to cope with how warped a creature I had become. Eventually, when my scarred psyche reached its breaking point, I would become the image of the monster that appeared under my Wintersday Tree. I would reek havoc across the face of Tyria until I was finally subdued by a band of brave heroes, my body burned and ashes scattered to the wind. Tales of my horrible life would echo throughout eternity as bedtime stories to frighten naughty children. Shiro Tagachi would have nothing compared to me.

And you would be a better living story villain than Scarlet.

WP has it (almost) right concerning Scarlet

Crossplay.2067

I’ll tell you why Scarlet is a bad character. She doesn’t have a defining moment that explains why she is the way she is. At conception, she walked away from the Pale Tree and her destiny without even asking what it was. She wandered around learning things with not clear goal or reason. She doesn’t form any emotional ties with anyone. She already displayed sociopathic tendencies long before the asuran plot device tinkered with her head. How am I suppose to believe she’s been altered by it when she’s practically acting the exact same way?

And then there are the things she’s done after that. It’s never really explained how she keeps the Molten Alliance from imploding. Scientific intellect surely isn’t going to work against racial, religious and social bigotry so her control over them doesn’t make sense. I have yet to hear where the Aether Blades came from, nevermind why they take orders from a plant that’s getting them slaughtered by the thousands. Why weren’t the watchwork shutdown at the first sign of tinkering? How was Scarlet able to gain control over them? Why didn’t anyone think to install a failsafe on them in case they ever got out of control? There are just too many unexplained plot holes. If Anet is trying to build mystery, they’re doing it wrong. You’re suppose to give a few facts that have several logical conclusions, not a clustered mess of info that seems like it could have been taken from several different games.

That moves us into Scarlet’s current plans, which are…. what? The biggest problem is we don’t know what the hell she’s trying to do besides some vague statements about toying with the fate of the world. How does throwing all three of her armies at random maps help this goal? How does cooking Faren do so?

To me, nothing about Scarlet makes much sense. Add to that her Villain Sue nature of having a hand in most of the current conflicts while always being able to escape whenever we get within half a mile of killing her. Plus look at ANY version of the Joker and you will see that he has moods. Sure he’s all grins and giggles most of the time but sometimes he’s angry and sometimes he’s sad. He even has moments where he hides his pain behind a smile. He’s a complex character with a realistic field of emotions. Scarlet, on the other hand, has one emotion: psychotically jovial.

On a related note, what made me stop playing is how the story is shifting away from the elder dragons. The logo of the game has a dragon in it. I expected to learn more about them and possibly get some setup for taking on another one. I want more than the too often repeated, “they are forces of nature.” At least explain what kind of natural force they most resemble. Hurricanes? Volcanoes? Tsunamis? Inquiring minds want to know!

As for Scarlet, I say ditch her. While it is possible to rewrite her as a more balanced character, asking the playerbase to accept her as is is asking way too much.

Learning when to swap is just something you have to do. While many people will swap, burn all their cooldowns and then swap again, I usually swap only before battle and then only in battle if I switch tactics. I pace my skill use so they’re not all on cooldown at the same time. The rest of my time is spent positioning while auto-attacking. The only time I would purposely blow all my cooldowns is when I’m desperately trying to get enemy aggro. It’s possible to do this, even with melee weapons, when you learn enough evasive tricks to stay in melee range and practically never get hit. Blurred Frenzy is one of those tricks.

As for focus reflection, it’s been a while since I played so I can’t quite recall the name but there is a trait that will cut 20% or so off its cooldowns and make them reflect projectiles. It is quite delicious.

Slow out-of-combat movement speed is a problem ALL mesmers have. Until anet ever decide to address it, it’s something you’ll just have to deal with.

Just like the focus, there are traits that will make illusions cause status ailments when they are killed (but not when shattered). One trick to take advantage of this is to purposely spawn clones in the line of fire. The Deceptive Evasion trait will have you spawning clones faster than Kamino. It’s the basis of many builds.

As for berzerker, don’t even bother until you can dodge just about anything thrown at you. While it is powerful and way too favored by the game’s mechanics, it turns you into a glass cannon. All that power means nothing if you can’t stay on your feet long enough to take advantage of it.

As for berzerker vs rampager, pve favors raw damage while the current pvp meta likes conditions. In fact, the game places hard limits on conditions because the coding can’t handle extreme situations involving them while raw damage has no such problem. I prefer rampager though. Mostly because I’m being a hipster but I also like the idea of constant pressure than damage spikes. Your mileage may vary.

MIMIC mesmer skill redesign

Am I the only one who doesn’t care for copying other people’s skills?

I’d rather just get the gw1 Echo, which turns into the next skill I use, so I can use chaos storm, blurred frenzy, more often, or stack phantasms more quickly

I would like that to be its own skill. it already has a name and effect that people from GW1 are familiar with. I would gladly go out of my way to earn that skill.

As for mimic, it should start off as a block with an appropriate tell. When hit while that block is active, it should teleport the mesmer to the side and create a phantasm of the attacker in place of the mesmer. That phantasm will mimic the entire enemy attack animation using the mesmer’s stats and then shatter harmlessly. As it doesn’t create a phantasm in the image of the mesmer and shatters harmlessly afterwards, it will not count towards the mesmer’s illusion limit.

In relation to this, the block and all similar reactionary blocks (not just mesmers) should leave the player immune for at least 1.5 seconds after it is triggered. It kitten es me off to no end that rapidfire and channeled attacks make blocking in this manner pointless.

I think it’s anet’s “low hanging fruit” way of storytelling. If they need a plot device, they go straight for asuran tech. If they want to explain an illusion, it’s always mesmer magic. I wouldn’t mind this so much if there was more thought put into it. For instance, if we have to use an asuran device, I would prefer a story where we tracked down a specialist, help them collect the materials needed, work out the bugs and kinks (which could be a way of unlocking the skills the device uses) and THEN use the device for story reasons. I would even accept an old device that was retrofitted to work in a new way. I just don’t want to be handed what I need from the start all the time.

Let me know if they ever decide that confusion should be more than a joke, that precursors need a definitive way of being earned, that limited-time skins shouldn’t be tied to ridiculously low RNG chests or that the living story actually involves elder dragons. Or Cantha. I would put up with a lot of foolishness to see an updated version of Cantha.

$60 for the pre-release
about $80 in gems
about $50 in armor skins
$30 for 2 server transfers
$20 for makeup kits
$30 for permanent farming tools
about $5 to find out how much black lion keys suck

I regret nothing save the money spent on black lion keys. What’s even more baffling is that I have posted, often, that I would have gladly bought several limited-time weapon skins if Anet would have sold them in the gem store after their related events were over. Apparently this has fallen on death ears. Due to that and the ridiculous grind for ascended weapons, I’ve stopped playing the game.

Mesmer Condtion build Q

Granted, I haven’t played for a month but I don’t agree with those above. Well, not entirely. Condition damage on its own is bad for pve. However, if it supplements power or you work with precision procs, it can be quite formidable. In dungeons, it can create an interesting effect with staff clones. They deal extra damage based on how many conditions an enemy has but they don’t have to be your conditions. Also, against enemies that have moments where they’re invulnerable, conditions may continue to tick away. If you’re good at dodging, condition damage can help you level as well because condition procs still work well on higher level enemies where raw damage won’t. I have killed enemies up to 8 levels higher because of this.

Newbie + level 80 + mesmer = confused!

Crossplay.2067

First off I would say embrace Orr and dungeons. If you even want to stand a chance against other players, you need to learn conditions, attack tells, what damage you can take and what you need to dodge. In open world pve, Orr is best place because so many enemies have CCs. Dungeons are the next step after that as two or three wrong moves will kill you.

Second, don’t expect to master this class quickly. In my opinion, it is one of the best designed professions because of how adaptable it is. One thing to constantly keep in mind is that most skills have a “good for me, bad for you” theme. Take Blurred Fury (Sword 2) for instance. While it does great damage, it also works as a great dodge. In situations where other professions have to evade to avoid a major hit, you can pop it and keep attacking.

You’re also not looking at the focus’ phantasm the right way. The fact that it remains nearly immobile makes it a great shield against ranged attackers. Thanks to how well we can position ourselves while in combat, its not hard to keep the phantasm between us and our opponents. Trait it with reflection and it can become a serious threat if not dealt with.

Greatsword/Staff is very compatible when you wrap your head around how they do damage. The greatsword is best with power but, because it has so many multi-hit attacks, it can be coupled with condition procs and work off of condition damage very well. The Sharper Images trait and the Superior Sigil of Earth are great choices. The staff’s auto attack seems ranged but it actually works best just outside of melee to take full advantage of the bounces. It scales pretty well with power plus it has vulnerability and burn procs so it also loves condition damage. On top of that, the auto attacks of clones do more damage to enemies that have conditions on them. Just be sure to stock up on precision to get crits so you can get those procs.

Do not underestimate staff’s Phase Retreat. It works even when you are stunned, it can teleport you out of crystal prisons and the clone it leaves can be bolstered with on-death shatters and purposely left in the line of fire to trigger them.

Basically what I’m saying is you need to change the way you’re thinking when you play a mesmer. You want to confuse your opponents first and/or punish them for acting without thinking. Damage comes second.

I feel you guys are looking at this the wrong way. It’s not so much that mesmer skills need to change (though if they brought back the glamour build, I would start playing again). It’s zerg vs zerg that needs to go. If they allowed scholar class AoEs to hit more than 5 opponents at once with reduced damage and/or effects, that could potentially disperse any zerg. Mesmers should be at the forefront of this tactic. While eles should do pure, raw damage and necros pass out conditions like they were cookies, we should be able to disrupt any unorganized blob so much that they’re not even sure what MMO they are playing.

Dec. 10th Balance Preview - Updated Nov 6th.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crossplay.2067

First of all, I want to thank you guys for FINALLY giving players the opportunity to discuss changes BEFORE they are made! This is a huge improvement that many of us have been begging for almost ever since the first balance update. They way you have implemented it isn’t practical though, as evident of how quickly this thread is bloating and how spastic the replies are. There needs to be a separate thread for each profession in the profession forums so replies, issues and inquires are more focused and easily understood. Still, it feels good to know that you guys are finally listening in a proper manner.

Second, I suggested long ago that you should first ask players what changes they want and what they are willing to give up for those changes to be made, should you feel it necessary to avoid power creep. I still feel that is better than making changes and then asking if the reasoning behind them is understandable.

Third, numbers mean nothing if it doesn’t feel right and no matter how great a handful of testers are, it’s always better to have the opinion of the majority. Basically, you ***need*** an ***open*** beta test server! I cannot stress that enough! How you restrict access to it is up to you but all players should have a chance at getting on it.

Last, as for the “on paper” changes, I only have one complaint: stop trying to insist that all elementalists should swap between all of the attunements to be effective. That should be an option, not the norm. Give ALL elementalists the ability to weapon-swap and the press of a button out-of-combat and then give the option to do so in-combat at the cost of 2 elements. This way elementalists will still have 20 skills to choose from but some can go 10 fire and 10 air instead of 5 of everything. They will also gain the option to switch from melee to range combat while in combat, which is another major complaint.

I know you said by December 10th but have faith in your players. If you announced this was going to happen right now and told them it would take 3 months to properly implement, you would still see a party on the elementalists forums.

Take some time to watch this. I know it’s rather long, but it’s worth it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSicD-CA4lM

The living story is anets way of introducing new character and new stories, it’s much more enjoyable if you’re able to follow. The living story is still something they’re working on, it’s not perfect. The players have been dissappointed by the living story (like the first impression of Scarlet) but have also been nagging om this forum about content that’s not nagworthy. You’ll find that we’re all tempted to nag about the smallest things.
But overall I’m still a fan of the living story and anet is trying to fulfill the players wishes. I find the new characters very promising and engaging and even though the living story still seems young, I’m hooked.

An other unpopular opinion of mine: I liked Trahearne and I liked being his commander. I think Logan is a boring character. Shining armor, long hair, handsome face, uneneding heroism, unquestionable love for his queen… He’s the prince charming of guildwars. But I haven’t read the books yet so who knows…

The novel started off well with Logan being an easygoing scout taking care of Ebonhawke and caring little for Divinity’s Reach. I even liked that his older brother was a seraph and felt like Logan was wasting his potential as well as tarnishing the family name. I can even buy Logan falling for Jennah on first sight but it’s really at that point where the story starts stumbling hard. They only see each other face-to-face twice during the whole novel but act like they’re newlyweds. So much of the story relies on the strength of their relationship that it all falls apart.

It would have been a lot more believable if Logan kept sneaking into the palace to see her throughout the story and they actually had written and detailed romantic buildup. He would have to be more flirtations and carefree for this to work. Jennah, on the other hand, would easily see through his one-liners but fall for him anyway because he’s brash enough to do what every other guy would be too scared to. It also would have helped to show the ministry pressuring Jennah about getting more security and her appointing Logan as her champion because he has few ties to the city so she knows they haven’t gotten to him. The last major change would be having the death of Logan’s brother (ugh, I can’t remember his name) be partially Logan’s fault. That way, he would have a reason to be straight-laced and obsessed about protecting the queen as she would be the only important person he has left.

Revamps for Claw of Jormag and Shatter?

Crossplay.2067

Personally, I think Jormag is near perfect. Since we can’t hit him constantly, there’s no reason for him to be a bag of hit points so cutting his health by a third would stop the fight from being a slog. Another option would be to give the bazookas some serious damage. My PVT-stat elementalist can do more damage than 10 people using bazookas and that’s just silly. His ice field is great for zoning but needs some indication to tell players where it starts. If the enemies he spawns don’t drop anything, they don’t need to be there. That’s not adding to the challenge. They’re just in the way.

We all know what will REALLY happen.

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I have two problems with this new event. If champions drop nothing then they will mostly be ignored. It’s the same problem every champion had before the loot drop patch. I say give them a guaranteed luck essence drop. Either 50 or 100. That’s small in the long run but perhaps just enough to give players reason to take them down.

My other issue is balance. If Tequatl has a 3 hour spawn time, a tough battle AND a timed fail condition then it is possible that people won’t have enough opportunities to learn how to defeat him. It may not be long before enough people are fed up with failing and just don’t bother which could lead to a lack of numbers to take it down. It’s possible that it will end up being ignored just like the Karka Queen is on my server.

My other fear is that Anet upped the difficulty but not the reward. if I have to work twice as hard to defeat Tequatl than Jormag but get the same reward, I’ll just do Teq a few times for giggle then skip the rest.

I also want to make it perfectly clear that a chance to get something better is NOT an incentive! Regardless of my amount of farming, I have NEVER received a single weapon ticket from ANY of the previous events! I’ve been playing daily since pre-release and have never received a precursor. I just got my second named exotic a few days ago and that’s likely only because I’ve been salvaging every green and blue I get my hands on. I do NOT like how much RNG is used in this game!

Crossplay.2067

I came back to this thread after I was linked to it from another and I have to say, I’m shocked and appalled at how closed-minded and negative you guys are. I guess I have to explain a few things I thought were obvious.

I KNOW a cleric guardian isn’t the most effective build. I main a mesmer whom I’m a lot better at and has a more efficient build. But sometimes I don’t want to play her. I prefer more supportive builds so I made a cleric guardian and purposefully run headfirst into situations with her just to see if I can survive them solo. When I am with a team, I am more cautious but I like to see how well I can help them survive. I also use my Guardian when my guild does temples and someone needs to heal and protect npcs. You can claim it’s a bad build all you want but I have gone toe-to-toe with champions, without dodging, and survived. In fact, I often have to remind myself that dodging heals me.

I KNOW HotW1 can be done in 15 minutes. I also know that I was in a pug so it wasn’t going to go smoothly. I expected 30 to 45 minutes. Three hours is unacceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

I am NOT blaming the ranger for playing a ranger. I’m blaming the ranger for making poor decisions. Running in when the group wasn’t ready was a poor decision. Fighting in melee range with a ranged weapon was a poor decision. Taking action before then group even formulated a plan was a poor decision. In respect to her, I made the same poor judgement when I ran in after her.

I am NOT saying I am some sort of godly player that never does anything wrong. In fact, I have stated – several times – that I should have left when I knew things would be bad but I prefer to stick things through to the end. You can call it a noble trait as well as a character flaw. I’m also believe in letting others play the way they want to play. I wasn’t using an optimal dps build so I don’t expect others to do the same. This was meant to be a fun jaunt through a dungeon, not a self-inflicted test of tolerance.

As we all know, aggro has next to nothing to do with how much damage enemies receive. I have, on several occasions, played my mesmer, stood right next to champions and burned all my damage-dealing cooldowns in a desperate effort to gain aggro so they would stop attacking downed teammates. Even though I was outdamaging the rest of my team, it almost never worked. The devs have even stated that aggro doesn’t work that way. Now if you can show me a way that dps does gain aggro at least 75% of the time, I would love to see how you do it. There is no sarcasm in that statement. I welcome the chance to learn such a battle mechanic should I need to help a downed teammate again.

I after the first very bad wipe, I stated that we came up with a gameplan. When I said “we” I mean all of us. The ENTIRE team. That’s why I was rather… perturbed, when two members instantly forgot what we ALL decided to do just a few moments prior. Don’t you guys think that’s a reasonable thing to get upset about?

I do NOT like taking control of situations that I am not responsible for. It’s a personal petpeeve because of personal experiences. When I want to be in charge, I will start groups. When I don’t want to be, I look for groups and follow the leader’s orders. If the leader is bad or needs help, I offer assistance and advice, as I had done during the planning phase, but I do NOT take control from them unless it’s dire, life-or-death situation. Dungeon parties for videogames will never count as life or death. That is my personal philosophy. If you don’t agree with it, that is your right, but I’m not going to change it.

You can use it to teleport to some ledges that melee fighters will have a hard time getting to. It even breaks fear and gets out of crystal cages made by the Shatterer and Subject Alpha. I find it so versatile that I have a hard time playing any profession without something similar.

I do agree that Mind Stab should be a blast finisher. I’m okay with the damage now but it also needs a bigger radius or auto-targetting because it’s extremely hard to aim in zergs. As for the torch, it needs every bit of love it can get.

I really hope anet doesn’t change skills and utilities to match the present meta because, more often than not, they dish out nerfs and they never revisit these skills to improve them once the meta has moved on. That’s what happened to Portal and why it has a longer cooldown than even some elite skills.

I’m not going to bother with listing them all but I will say Phantasm mesmers can dominate 1v1 battles if opponents don’t know how to deal with them.

I’m on Lud’s side by the mere fact that this theory is more entertaining than the present Living Story.

Queen Jennah isn't real

Anise is certainly powerful enough to pull it off. I remember a mission in prison where she summoned about 15 phantasms (not clones, phantasms) all at once and took out most of the Ministry Guard on her own. In another story mission, she was able to conjure an illusion on the player that triggered when they reached a bandit hideout. From this I can speculate that she is more than capable enough of creating a clone that she can control with extreme precision and from great distances.

There is other circumstantial evidence to back up this crazy theory. Jennah and Anise never seem to argue. It’s highly unlikely for a ruler to always agree with their bodyguard by the very nature of the bodyguard’s position. Anise has to constantly restrict Jennah’s actions to keep her safe and no one like restrictions but Jennah doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, she seems apathetic. Clones react the same way when told to suicide bomb enemies.

In Caudecus Manor’s story dungeon, Jennah didn’t save herself. I find it hard to believe someone capable of creating an illusion of Kralkatorrik while casing another illusion over all the human and char warriors to petrify them would struggle against a handful of bandits. What’s even more odd is that she didn’t even pant after doing it so she’s obviously a lot stronger than she lets on… or the first novel has some extremely bad writing. Either way, at the very least, she could have easily blinked away from the bandits’ field of view and ran away. The only reasons I can think of her staying was either waiting to be rescued or she was a clone whom couldn’t rescue herself.

Another thing Jennah does is keep insisting Logan rejoin the fight against the dragons. She said Logan would serve her better in that capacity but, if Anise is the one pulling the strings, she could be getting concerned with Logan being so close all the time. This can be supported with the fiasco at the Watchwork unveiling. If Anise is getting frustrated with Logan being too close, she would naturally try a more blunt, desperate measure to gain some distance. Changing the watchwork to Rytlock and opening old wounds would certainly qualify. Leaving Logan out of planning the Queen’s safety would qualify too. However, the most interesting thing is, I don’t recall Jennah objecting on either occasion. If she really had strong feelings for Logan, I imagine she would have strong words with Anise, regardless of how close the two are. Instead, she blew it under a rug and also asked Logan what he was doing about Scarlet’s invasion. Logan’s too much of a boyscout to leave the toilet seat up so there has to be another reason for Jennah’s change of emotion.

Here’s another interesting thing about the Queen’s speech. The language used implied that Anise made the clone of Jennah. If Jennah is such a powerful mesmer, why would she need Anise to make a clone of her? No matter how convincing Anise’s clone would be, Jennah’s would be better by virtue that it came from her. That is, unless Jennah is just another illusion.

Again, this is all circumstantial but it does make you wonder.

Someone has already pointed out that they didn’t announce rng loot chest. There is a part of me that is relieved about that and another part that is slapping the stupid out of the first because it should have been this way months ago.

I’ve come up with a unique solution. What if the skill spawned 4 clones, regardless of our clone limit. Three would spawn in at 120-degee intervals around the target, as if three mesmers were using the present version all at once while the 4th would spawn above the target and use the spectre finisher animation. The first one to connect does all the damage and stays while the other 3 shatter harmlessly. This would drastically improve the odds of the attack connecting while further confusing our opponents. Better yet, it can still be dodged because it’s really just one attack. It only looks like 4.

Mesmers made this game fun again.

I see no point in coming to the mesmer forums and complaining about a profession which are designed to fight by trolling their opponents. That’s like a soldier getting shot and then complaining to the opposing army because bullet wounds bleed. At best, you’ll get a, “well DUH!” followed by arrogant snobs patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

Yes, I am one such snob.

No matter what I do, I’ve been near useless as a staff wielder in melee and a dagger user at range. If I get caught offguard by even a decent opponent while holding the wrong weapon, the fight is over before it began. Add to this the pitiful active defense and low HP and my only realistic option is to run. For a profession that supposed to be a jack of all trades, that’s beyond shameful. The true beauty of said term is adaptability but eles don’t have that. Instead we have skills that do the same thing with a minor side effect that differs depending on attunement.

In my opinion, drastically changing weapon skills after a year of operation is only going to kitten players off more. Either proliferate more weapons that have different ranges for different attunements or allow eles to swap weapons in combat. The second option is a lot easier to implement as well as faster.

I also wonder, what would be overpowering if eles had access to 40 weapons skills? I imagine most would find it daunting trying to figure out which of those skills is the best for the current situation. My guess is most players would only swap to adapt to combat with only a handful of pros breaking out spreadsheets to optimize boons and dps. Both are preferred behaviors.

Worst case scenario is someone finds a way to keep 25 stacks of might going infinitely. This can be fixed easily by tinkering with how weapon swaps are implemented. Also, If arenanet would open their test servers to the public or even limit access to everyone with at least 5 level 80 characters, scenarios like this can be found early and fixed before even reaching the live servers. It also means they wont have to patch 5 times after every update to fix bugs and exploits that players find within minutes.

I feel you guys and arenanet are looking at this the wrong way. The problem is every elementalist is expected to constantly swap attunements. That severely limits builds and promotes common combos that might as well be telegraphed on loudspeakers. Then there’s the weapon range limitations. Almost all staff skills are ranged so staff users have to stay at range to be effective. Almost all dagger skills are melee so all dagger users have to stay in melee to be effective. Combine this with traits that are only work when in certain attunements and the long attunement cooldowns and you have a profession that’s pulling players in many directions but not allowing them to stand where they want. In essence, we can’t play our way.

In my opinion, the way to fix this is to stop insisting all elementalists rotate through all attunements. While it is nice to have the option of swapping, it shouldn’t be mandatory just to be effective. Some of us want to focus on one or two elements and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The second thing is to allow in-combat weapon swapping at the expense of attunement swapping. One way would be allowing elementalists to disable 2 attunements to gain the ability to weapon swap. This will limit their available weapon skills to 20 but improve their combat adaptability greatly. Another is to create a new grandmaster trait for each elemental line that allows weapon swapping while in that attunement. Since there’s only enough points for 2 grandmaster traits, it will limit itself plus obtaining these traits will mean giving up on traits that benefit from constant swapping. I’m also willing to bet players whom choose them are likely to stay in the attunements with them so, even though they technically have access to 30 weapon skills, they will limit themselves to 20. The third option is to create a signet with a passive that increases the current attunement’s effectiveness with time (like stacking might per second while in fire) and swaps weapons when active at the cost of the passive buff. The cooldown and the desire to keep the passive up will make players think hard about using the active.

The third thing that is needed is either more active defensive powers with longer effects or more hp. The reason why few eles go with a full berzerker build is because they simply don’t last long enough to get the damage out. I would suggest EVERY aura lasting 8 to 10 seconds and providing 10% damage reduction on top of their usual effects.

Last but not least, eles need skills with faster casting times. This is a game with twitch-based combat yet several skills are so slow that opponents can casually walk out of an aoe’s target reticule. There is something seriously wrong with that. No cast time should be longer than 1 second and I’d gladly take a reduction in damage if a recharge reduction comes with it.

I’ll have to discuss other opinions later as I really need to sleep.

I agree with gathering the common components for now. Anet stated that they plan on adding more legendaries before the year is over. It may be worth it to wait and see if something better comes out.

From what I gather, it’s not that Anise is forming the 3rd end of a love triangle. She doesn’t seem bothered that Logan likes Jennah but rather the level of obsession he takes. I think she wants him to grow up a little. Being a mesmer, her choice of action is mind games.

Why would you want chill if you already have an ice combo field, an ice elemental elite and some random skills to makeup the gap (if the projectile combos don’t do that first)?

Hanging out in the AoE would be much easier if everything you were kiting was slowed. I just really like the idea of “good for me bad for enemy” aspects in AoE.

That’s your inner mesmer speaking. You should answer it.

I’m happy this was fix. The only thing I scratch my head about is why it wasn’t in the patch notes. Now if Anet would just revert the confusion nerf, or at least make confusion useful, I would actually start liking them.
