This is something I would also at least like to see addressed in some form. I’ve tried to jump back into the game, and while I am in a guild that I can chat with, when I’m doing the personal story I’m crisscrossing areas and barely seeing much of anyone. It’s really a bit disheartening.

I tried chalking it up to the times I play, and that may still be it, but even Lion’s Arch seemed oddly quiet in the chat. It’s just odd.

On my server Lion’s Arch always has an overflow.

Anyway the player base is always going to gravitate to the new content. Forcing people into the under used zone artificially is not a great idea.

Also consider that with all the instanced content in the game, dungeons, fractals, wvw, pvp there is a large amount of the player base doing other things you just can’t see.

Every MMO has spots in the world where you are going to see less players. I personally don’t have a problem with that.

But to those that say they want to see more people, step one is to make sure you are on a high population server, and step two would be to go where the people are.

I certainly don’t want to be forced into zones that I don’t want to be in because Anet is trying to make it look like all the zones are populated.

The living story events have content that get people out into the zones, but when there are big events going on it is bound to pull most of the people away from the world content.

There is nothing wrong with this.

It is just not realistic to expect all zones all the time to be filled with people.

If you want to see more people as you travel through random zones, join a high pop server.

On Tarnished coast I never feel empty in a zone. I went to a pretty low traffic zone just last night for a specific item vendor. I expected to be mostly alone, but I still saw people in map chat calling out events and organizing into groups.

Ah I think I understand now. It is a fine thing to make a thread and warn everyone just how small of a chance they have to get a precursor.

The thing is, that is pretty much common knowledge at this point. Further I would hope that anyone that was planning on invested a significant amount of their gold into the attempt would do some good research and find out just what they are getting themselves into.

I truly believe you didn’t fully understand that sytem, because you seem surprised at the result.

I think the system does a good job of keeping the Legendary weapons at least some what rare. No it does not truly give a Legendary feel since aquiring one is largley based on luck or grinding. This thread has been made 1000 times and there has been very lengthy disucssions that I have participated in and out of all the complaints I have not come across a good suggestion as to how to do it better.

Lots of suggestions as to how to make it easier, but none of those retain the rariety that a Legendary status weapon should hold.

It is my fear that even this crafting system they are working on is going to make Legendary weapons much more common then (in my opinion) they should be. All this new system will be anyway is another big long grind.

What will be really interesting is if Anet doesn’t do the math right and it is actually sitll easier adn quicker to grind the gold and TP a precurosor then to do through their new time gated crafting system. Now that will be for a laugh.

Your original post just seemed silly to me that you played the odds and lost and were now quitting the game because of it, but before you left you wanted to convince us all of what a terrible system it was.

It is not a terrible system. It may not be the best system, but to me it does it’s job. And if you don’t play it right it will take you for everything you’ve got. I’m just not sure you should be blaming the sytem for that.

I also don’t think people truly realise what they are doing when they are gambling this way.

Now I am the first person to tell people that real world examples don’t usually apply well to MMO mechanics, however the amount of gold you are gambling for the amount of gold you stand to win way off in terms of risk vs reward considering your chance.

Everyone knows how unlikely it is to win the lottery. No one would spend 1 million dollars for a small chance to win 2 million.

No one would spend 100 million dollars for a small chance to win 200 million dollars.

No one would go into a convenience store and buy $5000 worth of scratch tickets for a chance to win the $10,000 max prize.

The OP was about half way there to saving a precursor. He risked it all for a short cut. He played the game wrong.

What I risk in the mystic forge is about on the same scale to real world lottery. I throw random rare’s I pick up every day into the forge instead of selling them or salvaging them. Every once and a while when it is the daily I’ll spend 2-3g and take a chance at the precursor I want.

I NEVER expect to win. I always expect to leave that forge with nothing, and so far that has been true. But what I gambled an amount I was comfortable getting nothing in return for. That’s gambling 101.

In the mean time I’m saving up my gold I earn through all other efforts to eventually afford a legendary.

You are correct when you say that it is hard to get. I experienced that first hand? However, I will reiterate that I spent my summer break grinding (seriously, I grind til my arms went numb) to save that up. I am fortunate to have even been able to save up that much. Again, I chose the way that worked best for me because of my lifestyle. I can’t grind for months a year without worrying about the other priorities I have, which I was fortunate enough to be able to set aside for the summer just for this one goal.

This doesn’t change the fact that you either didn’t make an informed decision or you plain out made the wrong one.

You obviously valued the gold you ground for very much, and yet you still chose to throw it all away with what you should have known was a very little chance of getting anything in return.

Most people wouldn’t come anywhere close to making a choice like that in real life, yet what is funny to me is that the concequences are not so different. The loss of happiness, and from your original post, so much so that you are giving up the game altogether.

So either you didn’t inform yourself of the odds corrected and so are therefor surprised at the result.

Or you knew full well what you were risking, and your chances of getting anything in return, but instead of owning up to your own choice you seek to pass blame on the system.

What you did is like going into a casino with a whole paycheck, walking up to the roulett table and betting it all on 00 and then proceed to yell at the dealer for taking your money.

You are correct. I fully knew the risk. However, I don’t know how many times I have reiterated that getting a legendary was my ultimate goal and that due to the fact that I have other priorities, saving over 600 Gold isn’t something I can do here. Saving 300 gold was already… pretty exhausting.

So you blame the system that you couldn’t ‘buy’ a precursor at the mystic forge for 300g, when it is being sold on the TP for over 600g?

You blame the system because your 300g guarentee something worth far more? Your 300g should have guarenteed you that precursor because it was all you were alb e to grind?

You gambled knowing the risks and you say the system is terrible because you lost?

I am willing to gamble something. I bet that you wouldn’t bet me 100g on the results of a coin toss. That seems silly right? And the chance of you winning that are much higher then pulling a precursor from the forge.

You still didn’t answe rmy other question. Do you have the rest of your precursor complete already? All your T6 mats? All your gifts? Because if you don’t, and that 300g was the total you were willing to invest in a Legendary..What did you plan to do about the hundreds of gold that it costs to get the rest of it?

It’s an issue of whether people can save money or continue to spend their funds when they have them. True, OP may have crafted/bought 1600 GS over a long period of time, but OP chose that over avoiding the MF completely and save 100%. I have little sympathy for people taking the gambling route AND gripe about it.

Opinions are opinions but I chose the way that worked most for me. I don’t have the time to grind and grind another summer break (which is almost up) to getting the rest of the gold I need. If you can and is willing, great. But, I was fortunate enough to set enough time with other priorities I have in life to even save up to 300 Gold.

What you wanted is more for less and you gambled for it. Knowing or should having been known full well what your chances of success were.

If we all could have the legendary we want for 300g gold, we’d all have the legendary we want.

You say you had the time and resources to get the 300g, then you should have been happy with what you had the time to earn. You had a choice, take that 300g and spend it on things you could afford with in the game.

Or you could risk it all for a small chance at doubling your gold value.

We all know what you chose, and you chose it knowing the risk. The system is what it is, but if you use the system knowing what it is and loose, you then blame the system.

Like I said, my one goal in the game is to get a legendary. Yes, I knew the risk. However, I spoke up about my failure because of how ridiculous the chances are. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Yes, I’m complaining a tad about how disappointed I am and you have proven my point. The system is horrible and is worth complaining about.

That is where we disagree. I don’t think the system is horrible. I think the way you played it is.

That is the funny thing about people who gamble more then they are willing to loose.

You said you knew the risk and you took it anyway. The funny thing is if you would have got your dusk on the very last attempt in the forge, this thread would look a whole lot different.

Do I think that the current implimentation of the Legendary system is the best way to do it? By no means.

But the system as it is now, is what it is, and you play at your own risk, and you did and you lost and now you are sore about it.

As much as the precursor is worth, it is still only one part of the Legendary and the rest of it costs just as much if not more.

….and not a single precursor. It has been a very long and tedious road Arenet, but this is probably the end of the line for me.

First of all though I don’t have a whole lot of reason to doubt the validity of the OP’s claim in does make me wonder when people send that much gold when they were a step away from buying the precuror itself.

So did the OP really put 1600 great swords into the mystic forge? shrug.

Anyway, while I do admit that it is a frustrating sytem as it stands now; Legendaries and precursors is far from all Guild Wars 2 has to offer. So if the OP is quitting over that singular system, he/she truly was playing for the wrong reasons.

If it came down to me dumping 400g into the mystic forge and getting a precursor or quitting, I’d save myself the trouble and just quit.

Especially when they are at work as we speak implimenting a way to craft them..

Thing is I just can’t out put enough damage to been the pirate team before the time is up.

I am running a PVT toughness set right now, so I am not all that surprised. But I have not played my Mesmer in a long time and I think I could use a total over haul.

I’m looking for a high damage, but not total glass cannon PvE build.

Event skins comeback

I don’t think all old skins should always be brought back. There are some prestiege to owning skins that others can no longer obtain.

There will always been cool new skins to get, but there is also something cool about being able to tell how long a guy has been around because of the skins he is using.

I’d like you to consider kindness instead of seeing the situation as “prestiege to owning skins that can no longer obtain.”. I have all three unlimited gather gear, I also have the dragon wings and helm, no one AFTER the event will be able to get them, but in my head I’m not likr “Tsk, look at me with something you’ll never get.” I enjoy having them nothing more nothing less. Again I’m saying this as a “present” for the community to the people who have (here I say again.) had the misfortune of not having it because they couldn’t. Don’t take my comment as offensive either, not attacking you. Just suggesting you see it another way.

I understand your point of view but you are inserting arrgonace into my stance where there is none.

I have been playing MMO’s for close a decade now and I understand the value of including limited time things players can gain. It makes the things you are gaining feel that much more special.

I am not saying to restrict everything, but it is also a ‘kindness’ to reconize the vets of the game in some way. Something that you can be proud to show that you have been around since the beginning.

Even if it is just subtle changes. If next dragon bash the helms and the wings look a little bit different, that will add to the prestige of owning the old ones. Players that obtain the second gen ones will then feel proud to own their set when the 3rd gen ones come out.

I’m not saying that players coming in later to the game should be restricted in the gear they can obtain, but having little things here and then that can denote a players logevity in the game is valube also.

I guess my philosophy is never gamble what you are not willing to loose. The reason why I have 60+ dyes is because I was going to save up to 100 and then open them all. Then I came across a video of a guy doing just that and he got nothing in return.

I have about 70g to my name total. I don’t flip the TP or anything like that, so the 16-17g that 100 dyes is worth is significant and I know that I’d feel pretty crappy if I opened them all and got nothing. So I won’t take the risk.

Sure I could open them up and end up getting 20 or even 70+ gold, but the chances of that are slim.

‘d have to say in my experience and most of the MMO’s I have played, the pet based classes are always weaker then the classes without a pet.

The class is balanced with the pet in mind of course so that is a certain percentage of your characters effectiveness. Now regardless of the pet controls available you are still taking a certain element of the character out of the players control and relying on computer AI for your effectiveness. This will always result in a less effective class then a class that has full control over his character and all of his abilities.

Your pet does not use its abilities with the timing and precision of a player controlled character, so you are at a disadvantage.

This is why personally I always stay away from pet classes in MMO because I don’t like aspects of my character that I don’t have full control over.

The game of 3 classes....

CryxTryx.9208

You guys are completely ignoring what the op is saying. All classes are viable. But warriors, guardians and mesmers are in such a strong position in pve thats for any decent group with multiple alts to choose from they are always going to pick those classes. Mechanics need to be radically changed for the other classes to be on equal terms. Debuffing and condition damage is so kitten in pve and thats what the other classes do pretty well, therefore they are much less useful than a warrior/guardian/mesmer.

We are not ignoring what he is saying, we are explaining that this is a non issue. GW2 is now a power gamer game and there is no reason to power game unlewss that is your style.

There are always a few classes that out shine the rest in any MMO, that is just how it works. Show me a perfectly balanced MMO between all classes.

If you are a power game you will play one of these classes. There is no content difficult enough in GW2 to even reward power gaming this way. If you want to shave a couple minutes off your CoF speed runs then play a Warrior.

Otherwise play any class you want, the class you find the most fun and don’t worry about the fact that the warrior is out dps’ing you.

This isn’t the type of MMO where your groups are running dps meters and booting you if you are not pulling your weight.

Play the class you find fun. I have yet to run into any groups that have descriminated based on class.

There is a reason that you can just use the looking for group tool to find a group for any dungeon and no one is worried about which class you are. Half the time I don’t even look at what classes join me before we start the dungeon.

That means PvE is balanced enough. I’m just as happy to get an engi in my group as a mesmer.

If you are a power gamer and you want to play one of the ‘top tier’ classes, then you are going to have to play one of the ‘top teir’ classes.

Also Anet is not balancing around speed runs, and nor should they be.

I think what people are considering bad desgin may be intentional. I was doing my daily jumping puzzle today on a human character. Troll’s end in Lion’s Arch and as I was jumping through I was reminded of the complaints people have in reguards to character size and camera.

Yes there are times when you basically have to guess, or not so much guess, but ‘know’. You are looking through your model half the time, or looking through or at terrain.

To me this has always just been part of the challenge of jumping puzzles. You get the best view you can and make your jump. The camera works just fine.

Good to see almost everyone is negative about their crappy ‘waste of new content’ jumping puzzles and only a couple of fanboys who will consider anything delivered by anet as 2nd coming of jesus appreciating their jumping puzzles. Hopefully they see this thread and start delivering the rpg element of this game instead of yet another mini this and that… How is it that in close to a year we received only one significant thing, fractals? Stop adding goofy crap and give me the reason to log in!!! adding a flute to gem store isn’t one…

Almost everyone isn’t negative about this content. Just a few people who suck at it…and that’s pretty much okay. Not all content will be for everyone.

On the other hand, anyone who claims you must be a fan boy to like something obviously has an agenda of their own.

The more you say stuff like this, the less credibility you bring to bear on any topic. Most reasonable people would dismiss this kind of prejudice..and it is prejudice. You’re basically saying anyone who likes a jumping puzzle must be a fan boy. There’s zero basis for this kind of statement.

I don’t suck at it, and it still niche. Seems a bit of a reach to say just because someone doesn’t like content they suck at it.

It’s a good thing it’s in the game, because it gives more people more things to do, and occasionally everyone likes to step outside the box and do something a little different. They are done for the reward (achieves for LS or chests with exo’s or daily/monthly), not because everyone likes them. All you have to do to see the truth of that is look for the amount of Mesmers offering ports.

It’s the same with the meta boss fights, that content isn’t popular either, not to say it can’t be fun. But it’s being done by the majority for the chests.

There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be in game, but the content releases seem to have a lot more focus on these kind of niche areas than with what makes a RPG strong.

Story/Combat/Character development will always be the core content of an MMORPG. These are the things which are the core experience, and these are the things that have been lacking.

More jump puzzles than strong instanced content? I think that points out a weakness in the devs content development.

Story in MMOs has always been excuses for what you’re doing. MMOS are about killing and collecting and always have been. What do the stories give you? A reason to do those things…nothing more.

All Anet has done is made the killing and collecting part of the game and added jumping to it. And a lot of people like it. Not a few…a lot. Sure it’s niche..the whole game seems niche to me.

But what does that mean?

I think you’ll find that there’s just as large a percentage of people who enjoy jumping puzzles as there are who enjoy dungeons.

It’s just my guess, but I’d wager it’s true.

It’s possible, I can’t say it’s not.

I’m not sure I agree that story is the excuse for why I do the things I do in game. I would like to see the story be the driving force and everything else flows naturally into it.

If there were story bits hidden inside jumping puzzle (there is some, but nowhere near enough), or at the ends, it would make them much more compelling. As they stand currently, the puzzles sorta stand outside of the core experience and not tied into it.

I fight to see the next bit of story, to get to the next plot line, to see what is in store for character X/Y/ or Z. Story is a bit lacking in this game because I often feel I am fighting…just because I’m fighting. More things need to be tied together into lore and story progression.

More people would enjoy the JP’s if they were tied more fully into the game instead of just feeling like tacked on content. It was the same with SAB, it just felt tacked on, not an actual part of the world. Why not tie these content releases into the overarching story lines? Why not when finishing JP’s you are shooting for continuing the story or plot progression? Instead you just have an instance (a decent instance) outside of any other part of the game, not tied to anything, no plot, no story, no reason to do it outside of the achieve and the box at the end and the challenge.

Sometimes the game can feel like a big box of parts without any coherent whole.

The reason the JP content is just ‘tacked on’ is so that it can remain optional for those that do not enjoy that type of content or for those who have a poor internet connection can not complete the cotent with any sort of reliability.

With the heavy critizisum jumping puzzle content is already under I would shudder to think what the response would be to story or character progression actually requring the completion of jumping puzzle content.

In my opinion GW2 is turning into a C rated platformer

Jumping puzzles are easily one of my favorite features in the game. Something that I am excited for every time I encounter one and certainly something I am excited for in furture content.

Brings me back to my Asheron’s call days where significant parts of major dungeons required some jumping skill. You think that GW2 jumping is glitchy? Lol. Glitchiness and lag and bugs were just part of the game back then. Something that you had to factor into the skill of completing the content. Even with that said, those puzzles were not designed to be easy. You actually had a jump bar that you would power up that would determine how far/high you would jump. You also had a jump ‘skill’ that you could put expirience into to make yourself jump higher.

Failure was often death which resulted in the lost of gear or valuble items as well as a vitae penalty.

When SAB came out I ran it straight for 2 weeks every chance I got. I must have run the sanctum print close to 70 times now. I love this content and I look forward to it.

I enjoy the rest of GW2 so I don’t feel like I am playing a platformer, but to me the jumping content is a breath of fresh air, I even enjoy the challenging vistas out there, like the few in the straights of devistation.

I get that not every body enjoys this stuff, but I find people that don’t enjoy it assume it is the majority opinion.

Here is the difference between my attitude and the type of attitude that started this thread. Just because I love the jumping content doesn’t mean I am yelling and screaming for more, or demanding even more challenging jumping content.

I am happy for what does come out, but I know that it is not everyone’s cup a tea so I wouldn’t ask that it become a part of every dungeon, or every zone..

I also don’t make threads about the content I don’t enjoy as much as the jumping, like sPvP and call it a waste of development resources and ask that those resources be put into jumping content.

I reconzie the fact that different teams work on the different aspects of the game and the people that are desinging the PvP content are not the same people working on the next levels of the Super Adventure Box. I understand that there should be a wide variety of content to suit many differnt play stles and not just my own.

Guild Wars is a big game and caters to a diverse player base and because of this I know there will be future content that is implimented that I just flat out do not enjoy….yet someone else will. I’m OK with that.

Game feeling dead at low levels?

Not sure which server you are on but I have not encountered what you describe personally.

I just recently leveled a Guardian from scratch and there was no shortage of people in the low level zones, or any of the zones that I completed while leveling for that matter.

Any time I encounted an event that I could not solo I just called for help on map chat. With out fail multiple people would answer that call and the event was easily compeleted.

My vote can be bought..

No more Badges of Honor

Strange I did not interpret this as an attempt to get PvE’ers to PvP at all. In fact I saw it as the opposite.

I don’t PvP right now and when I saw all those badges I bough exotic weapons for my new level 80, saved me some gold, and I still have enough left over to get a gift if I ever need one.

No more trying to run the jumping puzzle during slow times just to get my badges.

Hey guys, brand new engi here and I need a little opinion help.

Human or Asura are my choices. I just can’t decide between the two. I know this is largely preference based, but I’d just like some opinions and reasons to help sway me one way or the other.

thanks!

Buying Acsended Gear with Laurels..

If you are not playing fractals you can just wait, imo. All the content can easily be done with exotic or rare gear without any problems.

True enough, I actually have not upgraded my trinkets since around level 65, I’m getting through dungeons and the level 80 zones just fine. At this point it wouldn’t hurt to just wait and see how things pan out.

Yeah I got the amulet, I was debating between the 20% Magic Find and the 15% Karma, with the accouncment about Magic Find I might as well choose the karma boost, because who knows what I will get stuck with otherwise, although I might want to hold off on the infusion altogether incase they replace that option with something better.

I don’t do fractals so I might get the rings as well, I might try and get the accessories through guid missions although if I just want the stuff NAOW I may just get it all.

So I just leveled my guardian to 80, and I planned to just buy all his acsended gear with Laurels. Amulet, rings, ect.

With these annoucements of all the changes and getting to craft acended items, would you hold off if you were me?

Now I know we don’t know exactly how far away these changes are, and they may not change the sytem for aquiring current acsended items, just new ones..

Thoughts?

I don’t see the tab in my achievement pannel under historical so maybe I missed out.

Sorry I guess that would be helpful. I do both PvE and WvW, but more PvE. I’ve got a full zerker set right now that I plan to throw scholar runes into.

But my traits are defensive. 0/5/30/30/5.

I also have a PVT set in case things get a little tough.

Weapons right now I run mostly Great Sword and Scepter Focus.

Hello fellow Guardians,

I just hit level 80 and I noticed that with all these badges we are getting, I can use them in the WvW laurel vendor to suit up and save some laurels.

Which ascended trinks should I be buying, and with which infusion slot?

I think I should have enough resources to get my ammy, rings and accessories..
