Upgrades too expensive?

I dunno, I have 6 stacks of 250 sitting in the bank now because I have to keep emptying. Granted this is from mostly repeats of zone one, and doing the Tribulation modes.

Sure the Trib modes take a long time, but each Trib chests gives you over 250 baubles.

Should the original SAB skins be rereleased?

I wouldn’t mind myself if the original skins were re-released. I’m all for certain items being limited release so that they become rare items later and identify who was here when that happened.

With the SAB skins though it just seems unnecessary. SAB skins for all!

World1 Zone1 Tribulation Mode Chest Problem

You have to open the chest for sure, the tokens are not added right away. Which is why I hurry and grab my chest even before collecting the baubles around it.

Even though you were zoned and did not open the chest, the chests are still once per day per account. So if you ran it again before the daily reset, you would not see a chest at all.

I found that as the natural difficulty of the level itself increased, the difficulty added by Tribulation mode decreased.

I think this is mostly because at some points in the levels the path becomes very linear. If there is only one way to go, that way can’t be blocked with a trap.

In the earlier levels there is so much open space, which allows for so much more room for traps, lava, spikes, ect.

I found this with World 2 as well. The dreaded World 2, Zone 2 rapids don’t have a whole lot added for Tribulation, because there isn’t a whole lot of room for error to begin with.

Oh I also wanted to say this.

In the big huge “Is it too hard post.” I argued against the fact that World 2 on normal mode was too hard. I said that those of us looking for a challenge wanted it that way.

I was wrong. Tribulation mode was so much fun for me and I realized, that is the content I was looking for. Those of you concerned with normal mode difficulty were right. It doesn’t need to be as hard as it is. Tribulation mode is where I belong If I want that challenge and not force the majority of the player base to a similar level of frustration if they don’t want to be there. I apologize.

So I just went through World 1 tribulation mode for the first time. What a blast. I will say though that all of the feedback and insight Josh offers on the forums and in the Blog post really add to the experience.

I’ve tried to read as much of his feedback as I could find and I think I got an idea of his sense of humor and high level thinking that went into the SAB and specifically Tribulation mode.

I watched the clips of Ninja Gaiden he posted, as well as some of the other ones and with that in mind I I took my first step into Tribulation mode… and died.

Each time I got caught by a cleverly placed trap, or a trap on top of a trap I smirked because this wasn’t just me against the game. With all his feedback and interaction with us, Josh made it personal and that added a lot to the experience.

I found myself trying to anticipate Josh’s thinking, and what was really fun is the confirmation of that. I would go the way I thought would be safe according to what I had learned so far. I am proud to say I was often right. Then sometimes I’d get lazy and when I was repeating a section I would think; “Maybe I don’t have to go all the way around that tree, maybe Josh didn’t dead…, ah.”

But that confirmation that I was avoiding traps with out having to first get killed by them was a very rewarding moment.

I think Josh would be proud to know that 2/3’rds of the way through his name was used in place of a curse quite a few times.

In World 1, Zone 3 about half way through I said aloud in guild chat; “Josh I’ve beaten you, you just don’t know it yet.” It was still quite some time before I could link all three coins into that same chat…

Thank you Josh, and team!

On to World 2.

Would a developer want and benefit from a ‘first time play through’ from a real players? Recorded like a stream.

I value all feedback. We do have several layers of testing that go on throughout the process. We have alphas all over the world who give us forum feedback, we have regular design reviews with Mike Z, Izzy, Colin, etc. There were several revision they requested to knock the difficulty back in several areas, which we did. But apparently we made them 5 easier when they should have been 20 easier.

I personally watched a lot of people play through their first time, but apparently those folks were better than average. Also, we did a fix to the waterspouts late in the process that ended up making a worst bug (getting KB when they go down) so I didn’t get to see people play through that till it was too late. But We’ll get a hot fix in to address the difficult sections soon.

Thanks for the response Josh. Oh and my offer was not to suggest that proper testing was not already done. Personally I am happy with the release version of World 2 and tribulation mode so far.

I just didn’t know that first time play through were something you watched, I should have though. As always I’m happy to contribute in anyway that is helpful.

I think that a lot of people that are really complaining about how hard this is are doing it wrong. Simple as that. You’re not looking for the right places to jump from, you’re rushing jumps or you just have no patience.

If I had the software set up I would love to run a stream just to show how wrong you are. Wait till the walk through videos come out and follow them.

I’d really like to know what some of your tolerance level to difficulty is as well. I just did the rapids again, I fell 5 times. That isn’t a big deal. I have a feeling that for some people this is worth complaining about.

There is no insanely hard jumping, most of it can be done with little to no concentration, just run and jump.

The only challenge jumping wise I can see is in zone 3 when you have to climb up that really tall room. However with a little patience, taking your time, it can be done with little trouble.

I’m really tempted to get a stream going, It’s not too difficult.

Edit:

Also, Josh has already said he is working on a nerf. Are people not even reading the Dev responses anymore before posting?

I’m going to to go play it some more before it’s washed in tears.

The only way you ‘need’ the continue coin is if you don’t want to take breaks from
SAB to farm coins.

Continue coins are a 100% drop from each chest inside SAB and they drop from jumping puzzles around the world. You can also buy them with bubble babbles. There is not shortage but if you do run out this content is repeatable daily for these same drops.

Using 5 continue coins at once gets you 25 lives. 25. Not sure how much using 10 at once gets you.

So if you don’t want to have to take a break from SAB to farm some coins you can buy the continue coin, otherwise take a short break, run a some puzzles, save up the coins you get from the chests from with in and you’ll have plenty.

World 1 can be run in like 10 minutes from start to finish, between the chests and the bubble babbles you can earn over 50 lives in no time flat.

@Josh

I have a question pertaining to feedback on future releases of SAB and maybe other content in general.

Would a developer want and benefit from a ‘first time play through’ from a real players? Recorded like a stream.

I thought about this as I was going through the content for the first time today. Would it help the developers see how I reacted to this or that as I was seeing it for the first time. How I was able to figure certain things out, what I died repeatedly too and what I didn’t. What short cuts I took, where I was able to circumvent content maybe you didn’t intend. (ie: Killing yourself intentionally quickly after releasing the gong and meeting it at the bottom, avoiding the whole ‘gong run’.)

I thought about doing it for this release but I was just too excited to get into it, to set myself to record.

Would a dev like yourself have or take the time to watch something like this? Or is feedback on the forum all you need?

This actually happens to me as well. At first I thought it was awarding me infantile mode along side academic, which made sense to me at the time. Why have a player go through infantile mode if they can beat it on normal.

I’m not in game now I’ll have to check my achievements again, but it seems I’m in the same boat. I’ll go through it again tomorrow and see what happens.

P.S Josh, it scares and saddens me a little when the content has not been out for 24 hours and you are already saying you might have made it more difficult then you intended.

Any time now people will be competing with youtube speed runs of this content. Hold on tight.

I had a gut feeling going in that it was. But since I wasn’t hearing it confirmed by QA or alphas I let it go. So the main reason I’m paying so much attention to this thread is because I suspected there was a problem to begin with. I really, really don’t want to alienate a ton of players by making them miserable and frustrated. We made a whole mode for people who like that sort of thing!

Fair enough, but you have also made infantile mode for the players that don’t want a challenge.

I guess I’m glad I got to go through the content at least once before you nerf it. I’m not the game developer here, so I know I don’t know what is best, but you always go into this thing saying you want to bring back that old school feel where games actually had a learning curve and the people who are complaining here are the ones refusing to learn the game.

Complaints about long zones before they find the short cuts, complaints that they can’t just up and buy everything they want as soon as they see it in the store.

I remember farming for days for things I found in Legend of Zelda shops or Final Fantasy shops.

400 baubles takes a half hour to collect even if you don’t know the dig spots.

The ones who complain are always the most vocal, that is why your QA and alpha’s were fine with it. Because they didn’t expect a free ride.

99% of the content in Guild Wars you can do with your eyes closed, all people like me are asking for is that you leave that 1% alone.

You didn’t see the last team nerfing Liadri day 1, or at all for that matter.

@Josh

This is going to be as short and too the point as I can make it because I am currently akittenside SAB and I want to get back to it.

The new SAB content is not TOO difficult. It is difficult, and it is a welcome challenge.

I started World 2 today and it took me 6 hours to get through all of World 2. I was disconnected half way through zone 3 so that took a little bit more time then it should have.

Along the way I was able to complete the Ambush achievement, and the skater achievement. I must have missed an assassin somewhere.

I did not go for bauble or secret room achievements this run through.

I died a ton of times, but I had fun the whole way through. I encountered to content that I found overly frustrating except the rapids which a few people have mentioned. I have a feeling though that they will be much easier my second time through.

That brings up a good point. I feel many people who are saying this is too difficult are posting after dying a few times or after their first time through. Things get a lot easier after just completing them once.

That jumping puzzle in zone 3 that you have to climb straight up was quite difficult for me the first time through. After I was disconnected and had to repeat it, I was able to do it with no trouble, I only fell twice.

As for the darts in the assassin place. They were tricky, but if you look for them they are very obvious. Look for the dark shooters along the wall and spot the safe vectors. I will admit I cheesed the gong run. I died purposefully after releasing it and ran back from the check point and met it at the bottom to guide me out.

I post this only to say, Josh, please don’t be swayed by all the people saying this is too difficult. It is not. If someone can sit here with no walk through and figure it out for this first time in 5 hours, that is much quicker then any old school NES game. You are doing the right thing here. The people asking for difficult content like myself are thrilled with this and are looking forward to more.

I will post a more detailed review from work, but right now I want to get back into SAB.

Thanks Josh.

New keyboard

Most of you didn’t actually read the entire keyboard description..

The ‘macro’ keys located behind the F-key row are raised so that you can basically slide your finder down from one of those keys while pressing it and land on the F-Key underneath.

This fits exactly with what Anet considers acceptable. It makes it easier to press two buttons with one physical action, but you are still pressing two buttons.

As for the keyboard itself, I agree with the above poster that this is NOT a gaming keyboard. There are much better choices out there.

What you paid for is to have it first, before many other people had the chance or were willing to take the chance.

What you paid for what to be guaranteed the skins you wanted.

In the future you have an option now that you know how things go. You wait and take the chance that the skins do make it to the TP. We don’t know how Anet will continue to run things.

Also, these skins are still limited. Once they sell off the TP they are gone. So a few more people get the opportunity at the skin, but once they are gone from there they are gone for good.

Does the zerg care about the dynamic events happening in the zone? No. Why should they? Can’t you see there is an invasion going on?

No one cares about the brood mother attacking the game, the whole kitten map is being invaded by 3 allied enemy factions.

Were I that new player I’d join the nearest group and fight to stop the invasion in my zone..

Creating the Fractal Guardian

in Guardian

Posted by: CryxTryx.9208

CryxTryx.9208

Hello fellow Guardians. I first apologize for making a selfish thread about this, however my situation is fairly specific and my search for current information has been fruitless.

I have fallen in love, so to speak, with the Guardian class and I now want to gear myself out for every situation. My current project is The Fractal.

I know there are lots of Fractal builds out there, but I would like to insert a few personal preference that I seek help in working around. So while this build may not end up being ‘optimal’ it will suit my style of play.

In order to beat Liadri I crafted a full suit of Knights with Superior Rune of The Eagle. I had previously been running full Zerkers with Superior Scholar. So I have both sets however I just applied a new skin to the Knights in celebration to my victory so I would like to use the Knights for this build.

I most commonly use Great Sword. I have two, one with a Superior Sigil of Energy, and one with a Superior Sigil of Night. (For when it’s Night >.>)

I off-set is a Scepter and Focus, and more recently a Sword and Focus. All weapons are berserker.

I am open to off-set suggestions, however the Great Sword stays.

**What I need help with.

*My Amulet/Accessories/Rings/Back are a mess. I have only started Fractals. (Reward Level 15). I have no AR.

If someone could explain the most efficient way to build max AR and the best stats to seek in these slots I would greatly appreciate it. I will do the research myself If I have to but Fractal reward system seemed a little complicated to me with all the Mystic Forge crafting and such. If possible I’d like not to mess around with lower tiers of things, I just want to craft the best and put the Max AR in it.

**Traits and Utility Skills – I am used to running ‘Retreat’, ‘Stand Your Ground’ and ‘Wall of Reflection’.

I am really not great when it comes to putting together Traits, this is what I need the most help with.

My play style likes to get into the fray and control the fight. I like to run in and Great Sword 5, pull everything together for my team to dps down where possible.

Even though I am wearing Knights I usually prefer DPS over survival to a point. I believe I’m a skilled enough player to mitigate my damage through dodging and placement over building it into my character.

If I have totally missed anything it is because I am clueless to it and would appreciate help with that as well.

I know this has been long but I really wanted to communicate what I was looking for. I am actively researching and testing this on my own, but I would appreciate the insight of a greater pool of knowledge and creativity.

To anyone who has decided to help, I Thank You.

I just beat her using this wonderful video and guide. I won’t be attempting her on 8 orbs, I am just not up for it, the kill was enough for me.

Thank you to the creator of this guide.

The only tip I will give is to take breaks. Don’t beat your head against the brick wall with this. I took breaks, went and made coffee, I even tried it on my mesmer for a while.

After I came back from about 50 attempts on my mesmer I got her on the 2nd attempt. I think it was just because it was fresh agian.

Over on my guardian it probably took me about 80 tries. Between my two characters about 120 tires.

It was fun, I’m glad I did it and I welcome more challenges similar to this. But not the same.

I think that unless all the gold made so far was invested to manipulate the tp, it is not going to effect the economy over all in any significant way.

I also think that a lot of the gold players are getting initially they will spend on big priced items, including gems which will then just take it right back out of the economy.

This is incorrect. The problem with this situation is like a country printing way too much money. The value of the currency goes down because there’s so much of it outstanding, and as a result, prices of goods rise. You don’t need to be a business major or market analyst to see that a lot of stuff on the TP is rising in price.

That’s a fine example if people in that country were also prone to burning the money.

When you buy gems with gold it removes it from the economy entirely.

Precursors already have the requirement of a 100 Gold purchase (Icy Runestones).

As for the state of the game with all this farming, clearly it was never intended. How would they know that with the right build, a certain hardcore boss could be farmed so often? It took a single person out of millions of players to share this information, and then it exploded. But then there’s the concern of mass Champion farming chains. Surely Anet wanted to reward players for defeating difficult enemies, but didn’t expect so many people to dedicate all their time to sitting on map spawns.

I wouldn’t go so far as to blame Anet for this, but more along the lines of them underestimating our resourcefulness in finding Gold making opportunities.

If we found it in under 10 days, then devs should be able to predict that behavior through play testing, no problem.

Yes, they are STILL dropping and they ARE robbing us of the rare drop in that spot because they ARE considered as a rare drop(nothing rare about them, they should be WHITES), just like the new bags that are now dropping deemed as a rares and exotics which in my humblest of opinions are all GARBAGE.

What is your source on this. I don’t think you know this for sure, and I am pretty sure you are just plain wrong.

They are not on the same loot table as the normal rare drop. You can tell this simply at the frequency at which they drop.

They are just an extra drop, just like Kite Fortunes. Kite Fortunes dropped the same way and did not override a rare loot drop.

They are still worth money, just vendor them.

It’s not JUST any mini, it’s THE mini. Besides, you have like a month to get this mini if you really want it.

But I thought it wasn’t about the mini. I thought it was just about being able to enjoy difficult content. Which is it?

Let’s say we made Liadri’s difficulty even harder, but we gave other players an alternative, easier way to obtain the mini. Would you be happy with that?

Basically, I’m asking which is more important to people who want difficult content:

1. The content itself, and the challenge of completing it;

2. Making sure that your rewards for challenging content are exclusive to you and that no one else can have them.

I notice that you don’t respond to post that already answer these questions for you so I’ll respond directly to you.

The mini? Are you serious? Who cares about the mini, I’ve never once activated any mini that I’ve recieved, and I only have them from completing achievments.

Give the mini to everyone, take it away entirely, I don’t care, I will still be spending all month trying to beat this chick.

Keep asking for it you get whats coming.

I would love to be able to say there in content in Guild Wars 2 that is too difficult for me to do.

So far I have only attempted Tier 3 Liadri a hand full of times and I have not come close to beating her. But I think I am up for the challenge and I play to keep trying until the content is removed.

You know what, if it comes to the point that this event is over and I didn’t get the mini because I want not skilled enough to beat her, then I will be happy to admit defeat.

I just really hope Anet doesn’t give into all the whiners when a little bit of cotent that is challenging comes out.

Most of the gauntlet is easy mode, Liadri represents such a small fraction of the content it isn’t even worth typing it out as a percentage and there is a big out cry and casual vs elite wars start.

If you can’t beat Liadri move on and let those of us who want to try keep trying.

Hell I wouldn’t even care if they just gave the mini to everyone to stop the tears and kept the content there for those of us who want to do it.

I hate the mini’s I never display a mini, I would have prefered a title. You think I am spending all this time and effort for a mini? Hell no, I’m doing it for the challenge and the love of the game.

Sad About Liadri

The OP’s post makes me realise how wide spread this ‘anyone can do it’ content really is. It has been a long time since any game, not just guild wars 2, puts out content that is actually challenging to do and requires skill to complete.

The fact the this little bit of content got such a strong reaction just goes to show that we need more content like this.

I am not asking for the majority of conent to be very difficult. Even if just 5% of cotent required this type of skill to complete, it would give those of us who enjoy it an outlet.

I’ll be honest and say that I have not yet beat Liadri, however I have only tried her about 5 times so far and I think I am up for the challenge, I look forward to it.

And you know what, if I can’t get it, I am OK with that too. It would actually make me happy if there was content in the game that was too difficult for me to beat.

It’s been my view from the start that there are too many leveling zones (also too many levels) and this is one of the consequences of it.

I think ilr’s commen has merit as far as solutions go.

The problem is, if there’s too few leveling zones, everyone will rage endlessly about how boring leveling alts is. Nevermind that in the real world they all stay in Queensdale anyway, once they’ve made up their minds about something that’s that.

Well exactly. I can’t help but smirk when people are complaining about the very opposite thing they would be complaining about should they get their way.

We are complaing about too many zones now? Really? Had they made us all level in the same 1-15 and 15-25 zones it would be one of the games top critizisum.

Personally I don’t get lonely if a zone is a little bit dead. I enjoyed running through a zone on my own, seeing people now and then. One thing that held true though is that when I needed help or called out a champion, players showed up every time with out fail.

Its RNG, what did you expect?

You had just spend 400G betting in your luck. Almost a precursor, so… you are doing things wrong. Soon A-net will introduce a form to craft precursors, so… stop wasting Gold guy.

After what the OP posted, you’re still gonna defend Arena.Net???

The guy wants his legendary weapon. Apparently that in this game, going on an epic adventure to build your legendary weapon = standing in front of the mystic forge and dumping items.

kittening Legendary.

+1
I’d rather go through a raid and do something epic rather than stand in front of the mystic toilet.

Oh really? Please describe in detail a ‘raid’ that could be done that would justify the reward of a precursor and still be difficult enough too keep Legendaries rare.

Do you want the Legendary status gated by behind skill? I’m all for it! I’ll bet you 300g that the community sets this board on fire should that happen.

We need “districting” back.
It’s just that simple…

Example: Is there only ~250 people in Sparkfly Fen, split across 12+ servers in the entire EU localisation? …okay, then you only need 3 Districts tops. (mainly b/c all them Candians can help fill up the French one…)

I think this is a good idea. The opposite of an over flow zone. That would be very cool, not sure how hard it would be to impliment.
