Where do Necro’s stand in dungeon effectiveness?
(The reason this is not on the Necro forum is because I believe the dungeon posters here, can answer this question better then potentially bias Necro players.)

I already have a Mesmer, Guardian and Warrior at 80, but for some reason I have an itch to create a Necro.

I don’t really want to waste my time though if they are useless. I understand they may not be ideal, but is there a place for a well played Necro in dungeons or Fractals?

..and I was pretty happy at first, but then I started trying to figure out what I would use it for..

I have a Warrior, Guardian and Mesmer at 80, all three run full Berserker Gear.

Even if you are not of the persuasion to run full zerker and you have a different armor set, almost everyone runs zerker weapons, no?

So I’m here to ask. What could I get away using this for with out sacrificing too much? It is Sentinel stats. How much dps am I really using, or should I just use it for the skin incase I want a different looking Ascended skin. It is blue which is kind of cool.

Alternative ways to farm gold

Yes I did one day when I completed all dungeons during the night so I had nothing to do and decide to farm it. I made around 40g in 4:30 and I got surprised how rewarding spamming 111 truly is .

Basic math fail? Figure on an average of 40 boxes per hour. Now those boxes have between ZEROOOOOOOOO and 10 silver per box. Split the difference shall we and call it 5 silver per box. 5×40 = 2 gold and that is being GENEROUS considering I have had runs of 10 boxes of ZERO silver in a row. Even if we went the other way and nailed the RNG lottery with all 10 silver boxes it is a massive 4 yes FOUR gold per hour. Which after months of doing this … does NOT happen.

If you spam 111 you are part of the problem. There will always be some like you doing it but the reason events get done is there are enough of us that find the energy to move past 1 to the other skills as well.

Anet should take a tip from Blizzard D3 in forums and make it so people can see what the poster has accomplished in game. When Blizzard did this posters like you went the way of the dinosaur since everyone could see they were blatant trolls and barely played the game beyond trolling of the forums.

If you are only farming this for the gold then why don’t you do dungeons? Honest question. Dont’ get me wrong I’m not telling you how to play, but if you are telling the truth that this champion farm is only worth 2g per hour before the nerf, why wouldn’t you farm dungeons instead?

I can run AC P3 in about 15 minutes, CoF P1 in about 10 minutes, SE P1 – 10 minutes. and the list goes on.

Now I know you can only do the dungeon runs once a day, but there are quite a few easy dungeon paths you could be completing daily and no including any drops at all a dungeon run will net you 1.50 gold for that daily run.

Am I missing something here or is that not way better then 2g an hour?

As you mentioned … once per day. The people seriously running the champs are doing it trying to get a legendary and tend to be more dedicated than once a day type people. Not faulting anyone doing dungeons or their level of determination, merely stating that many that run the champs will be there for hours daily.

The champ farm doesn’t require you to spec a certain way or run a character you may not want to play. It is literally “run what you brung”. Which makes it convenient for both the hardcore grinder and the casual waiting on a Jormag spawn that just happened by.

There are always equivalent means for generating gold but bottom line, some people just like to grind for the OOOO AHHHH chance of maybe getting a good drop in a less than RNG friendly game. Dungeons to me are boring, running the same scripted path is worse than killing the same open world champ in my book. Plus Frostgorge has always been my favorite zone scenery wise. I guess it comes down to what you like or what is best for you … which is why when people try to dictate how others should play it makes me less than pleased.

Fair enough, thanks for the answer. I guess it would be quite fun to open up all those champ boxes too. Especially with the chance of the new exotics they introduced.

Nerfed Champ Bags/Boxes ?

I’m so sad. I was having so much fun running in a circle pressing 1 repeatedly, with occasional F’s thrown in to pick up my loot. Now I actually have to play a variety of content to get my payoff. C’mon A-net, just eliminate all the other zones and put 10 champions in a loop in LA and let us run around zerging them. Whaaaaaa! Pleeeeeease!

Nerfing champ bags affects people that don’t do champ trains more than the champ train itself. What’s a few copper less in a bag when you get a hundred of them? Who cares, but for people that don’t do champ trains, and get champ bags at a normal pace, the bags are a lot more worthless than they were before.

I agree, zerging is not fun, but punishing the people that don’t zerg because there is a zerg is just very strange.

Your logic is a little off here. It most definately hurts the farms more.

I don’t farm champs, I get maybe 10 or so champ bags each time I play from doing a few dungeons.

Now using completely fabricated numbers here, if I get 10 silver less per champ bag. I’ll loose about a gold a day now. So less then a single dungeon run worth of rewards. No biggie, I’ll never notice it.

If you are a farmer getting 100 champ bags a day (which is probably a modest amount), you’re loosing 10g per day, which is significant.

All of these players are skilled dungeon players and with this thread they are basically saying they can complete any of the content with any character como, any build.

So while straight damage builds may be the best, you have all the options you want.

This was known though. We just knew it would take way longer. As shown in the video. So it just confirms what we knew. You can play how you want, but it takes a lot longer to finish material. This is why certain groups require zerker gear, so they can finish content quicker. Find like minded folk, and enjoy the game

I agree. Personally I like to challenge myself but I also like to find ways to complete content the best way I know how. If that means stacking and LOS’ing so be it. I don’t see much point in needlessly prolong a dungeon if there is a quicker way to learn it.

I do and try to find like minded players and group with them, but I am still pugging more often then not. I don’t require gear checks or anything like that, however I will give suggestions and I do ask most of my groups know the encounters if they are going to join me.

This is where I find we come under fire because we have the percentage of the community calling us elitiest because we wear beserker and want to play with other expirienced players.

Finding like minded folks to group with is considered to be elitiest because I’m excluding people from my groups.

I thought the point was to show, despite how vocal the community is about saying that you must gear a certain way to be successful and Anet is not honoring the ‘play how you want’ playstyle, Obal is showing us that it isn’t the gear at all that that makes the character, it is the player.

I wrote that wall of text because I wanted to give these guys the benefit of the dobut that if it was all actually explained it might provide some insight for them as to why stacking is a viable tactic, why it is done, what the risks are.

I did indeed, waste my time.

Alot of the posters that are saying how ‘sad’ it is going through a dungeon is ‘reduced’ to stacking together and smashing buttons just don’t run a lot of dungeons.

Maybe they don’t understand the posistion many of us here are coming from. You see, I can complete the content both ways. I can complete each and every dungeon with out a stack and with out luring mobs with line of sight mechanics.

I don’t use stacking and line of sight as a crutch, I use it as a strategy to complete the content the best way I can.

Is that true for all of you telling us we shouldn’t stack? If so, feel free to add me in game, we’ll go fight Queen Spider Legit, and we’ll go fight Alpha legit and I’ll end up having to finish solo while you take a long nap.

I don’t understand the people that say ‘this is not what the devs intended.’

Ok, I’ll explain.

You don’t design and balance a variety of classes and skills just to have people ignore most of them in favor of one “tactic”. You don’t design a huge dungeon full of mobs just to have everyone skip it all to fight the end boss in 5 minutes. You don’t design and balance a variety of gear options just to have everyone use one gear type. You don’t design a huge beautiful world just to have everyone grind in one area and miss most of it.

Whenever you see results like the above, you have a design that failed to some degree. We are not trying to be psychic and read the thoughts of the developers. That’s basic design concepts.

I dislike very much when people quote my posts out of context.

If you included the rest of my post you would see that the reason I say I don’t understand when people say stacking isn’t intended is because all evidence is to the contrary.

‘Line of Sight’ is clearly a designed mechanic. Monsters are programmed to move toward the target when they can no longer draw line of sight to it. It would be just as easy to program the monster to stay stationairy and fire a ranged weapon at the wall until you moved into view. Similar to what the eyes do in Arah because they can’t move.

They could even design monsters to ‘power up’ the longer you stay out of line of sight and build stacks of might until you came back into view.

However they have not done this. They desgined ‘Line of Sight’ to workt he way it is, and we are simply using the best tactics to defeat the current design.
*******

As for boss stacking, it is not the easiest the method by far for many bosses. It actually a high risk high reward method.

When you stack against Alpha you do so because it is the most efficient damage wise because you stack in a corner so when you dodge the aoe you don’t go anywhere. This allows you to continue to DPS.

The Aoe is just as easy to dodge if he is in the middle of the room and all spread out, however then you have to run back to hiim to begin to dps again and this will slow the fight down a lot.

When you stack he also stacks the AoE’s all in the one spot making one missed dodge often fatal. High risk, high reward.

The only caveat to this is that stacking also does makign ressing easier because you are all already right there.

Stacking on AC P3 boss works well because all your dps is right there and he goes down fast. However it is just as easy if not easier to fight him legit. It just takes a bit longer. Grast works well now, he throws up that bubble to protect you from the falling rocks which is a much bigger area then that little corner everyone hides in. However it takes longer because because you have to move aroudn, people get knocked back ect. But you all take less damage over all.

AC Spider Queen fight for good players is easy to do legit. You range her and stay out of the AoE. The reason why we choose to stack is because melee is faster and it keeps the boss in one place so everyone can dps her together. This also allows the boss to melee everyone and hit everyone at once with her cone web attack. You see many PuG groups still wipe on the queen while stacked because of this. It’s high risk high reward.

You certainly don’t stack lupi because it’s easier, unless your Obal’s Ranger group. Killing Lupi at range is mind numbingly dull. You will only down if you fall asleep. It also takes a really long time.

When you fight Lupi stacked in melee you have dodge and it is very easy to make a mistake and die. (I’m no pro.) But he goes down quick. Again and High risk strategy for a high reward.

I would like to know if the boat skip is a bannable offense thoguh, because it if is I certainly wouldn’t use it. The run is tough but it is actually pretty quick once you master it.

Solution: Stop locking every content in a “once a day” cycle
Solution #2: I understand they dont want something to be exploitable, but at the same time it does not justify nerfing what people do to make gold while ignoring other content when that content is locked in an account wide daily reward.

AC dungeon for instance, decent reward for 15-20 min run, 2nd time in … 10s, hurray!

Each dungeon path gives between 1 and 3g. I don’t think you are completing each dungeon path each day which means you have plenty of gold to earn via dungeons.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: CryxTryx.9208

CryxTryx.9208

I don’t understand the people that say ‘this is not what the devs intended.’

The major component to an ‘all stack’ stragegy involves using line of sight to lure opponents to the stack.

The developers programed the current line of sight system and it is working as intended. Monsters are programed to ‘look’ for the player they want to attack and if that player moves out of line of sight to move toward that player until they are again with in line of sight.

The monsters could just as easily be programed not to move and the players would be forced to go to the monster, or fight it with their own ranged weapons.

The other side of the coin is that stacking can still be difficult. Some less expirience players that try to stack still fail.

AC Queen Spider is a perfect example of that. She’ll wipe PuG stacks all day long.

Another exmaple from AC is p3 final boss. For many groups that boss is actually easier to fight legit then to stack in that safe spot. Grast works just fine now and will throw up that bubble every time. Stacking just makes the whole group get hit with that bosses melee attacks and knock back attacks.

Would I like to see Dev’s impliment content in the future that prevented players from stacking? Sure if it was done in a creative way. Only because I welcome the challenge though and would enjoy seeing the Devs rise to the ocassion.

Black Lion Ticket Scraps

Posted by: CryxTryx.9208

CryxTryx.9208

Personally I find the Black Lion keys fun, I do buy 25 keys every now and then. Usually once for every new Black Lion Ticket weapon sset.

I bought one for Aetherized, one for Halloween and just recently one for the dream Scythe stuff.

I did discover though that I had been luckier the first two times then my most recent time which is probably why I continued.

The first time I bought 25 I recieved 1 Ticket and 5 scraps. I thought that was normal and it did seem worth the value so I was happy.

The second time I bought 25 I recieved 1 Ticket and 6 scraps. So I continued to think that was normal, I was again happy.

That was the equivalent of 3 Full Tickets for 50 Keys. Not bad. If you wanted to convert that to gold to get any idea of what you are getting gold to gem wise. You could sell most of the popular skins for around 80g when they came out. So for 3200 gems I got 240g worth. (Not to mention all the other little nick naks you get with the chests, I do enjoy the boosters, the ktis ect.)

If I would have taken those 3200 gems and just straight up converted them to gems I would have got around 160 gold. So I was coming out ahead.

Of course I kept playing. Last night I bought another 25 keys because they were on sale. I only got about 4 scraps. I realised that those other two times when I scored to full ticket drop I was actually very lucky.

I’m not going to lie it did feel kind of crappy with spend 25 keys and come out with basically nothing to show for it.

At this point I have 7 scraps and I don’t really want to buy more keys. Problem is they’ve got me. If I don’t buy more keys to at least turn those 7 scraps into a ticket, I’ave wasted all those keys.

If the RNG was more at the level of my first two purchases of 25 I’d say it was a great system. With it as low as it seems to be judging by the responses here, and my own findings over my last purchase, I’m not so sure.

A way point that I could create anywhere on the map and party members could way point to it. It would disappear after a short time.

I was doing a lot of zoning and personal story with my brother and some of the places the personal story lead us to we did not have discovered. Or more to the point, both of us had not discovered.

This resulted in one waiting for the other to make a run from Lions Arch to Timberland Falls for example.

I would have paid some gems to be able to port him to me.

I agree, people do not have to play with me. But starting a dungeon with me in their party and then kicking me halfway through because of my gear is reportable. I am not entitled to much of anything. It is an mmorpg and I should be able to play however the hell I want to play. That’s what an mmorpg implies.

If I felt entitled, like you said, I would be kicking literally every single full berserker player that tries to party with me. Do I do that? No. All I want is equality for all types of gear. I do not kick people because of the gear they wear. I simply report the ones that think they’re better than me because they wear different gear.

Half way through is not against the rules. It takes time for people to realize you have on clerics. My guess is they say zerk only, youjoin the group, then they find out halfway through and kick you.

You DO feel entitled. If others can’t play however they want, then why should you? Quit forcing people to play with your crappy build.

You DO realize you have compared racism to kicked people from parties right? Kick people from parties is the same as brutally enslaving a race of people? Got it.

If people say “Zerks only”, then I respect their wishes to play with people that have similar playstyles. However, NOT posting that and kicking people with non-zerk gear is childish and I report them for it. This is an mmorpg. Someone could be wearing all blue armor and blue trinkets and come into my party because they need dungeon gear. Would I kick them for it? Hell no, they’d be contributing something to the group – even if it is a small amount of contribution.

You do realise that you are telling a group of people to respect others right to play how they want, by telling them they should play a certain way.

You like to wear whatever gear you want, great. You like to play with others no matter what kind of gear they are wearing, great.

What if I don’t? If I have the same rights as you, to play however I want, I can also choose who I want to play with.

Anet has designed the vote to kick feature to only need two votes. And unless I am missing some documented rules about valid reasons to use that feature. Using my right to play however I want allows me, with the help of one other party member, to kick a player for any or no reason at all. I could kick you for joining my group as a Sylvari and It would be with in the rules.

Alright, I’m going to keep this thread on track and try to keep it as civilized as possible. I agree with you guys that are stating similar arguments like this. If you want to play with only other people that are similar to your stats, that’s fine. If you want to play with other people that are exactly similar to your stats, SAY IT. If you start a group with a simple LFM for AC part 2, I will instantly join that because I assume that it’s open to anyone. If they kick me from that group, THEN I will report them for wasting my time. That is what I’m saying.

You are imposing rules on my playstyle by telling me I am required to state exactly what type of group I am looking for up front.

So how about this. If you join my group and don’t ping your gear as soon as you load in, and if that gear is not optimal I will boot you and report you for wasting my time.

Please note, this is not something I do or intend to do. However your argument is easily reversed. You can’t impose rules on who or when I can kick people from my group with out going back on your ‘respect everyones playstyle.’ You’re telling people how to play, while telling people not to tell people how to play.

When can we expect raiding

This game’s style of PvE revolves around 5 Zerker geared players bursting down a boss while ignoring most mechanics. You want 10 (20) more of these trying to burst down a raid style boss? For what? Skins?

Yes lets drag the zerker argument into every post so that we can’t discuss anything constructive.

I’m taking a stand here and now and saying I will not go berserker no matter what. I may continue to get kicked out of parties, but I will report each and every one of the people that vote to kick me, because this thinking is utterly wrong and is harmful for an mmo. I encourage every single player that does not use berserker gear to do the same. Report any players that kick you from parties because of your build, insult you, or demand that you use berserker gear.

This is an abuse to the reporting tool. You will be banned if you abuse that system.

Quit being spiteful. It is not against the rules to kick people because you don’t want to play with them.

No, it is not abuse. I will be improving the game by reporting those elitists and getting them banned. So far I’ve reported many of those elitists, and guess how many times I’ve been banned/suspended? None.

Kicking people because you don’t like the gear they’re wearing is right up there with racism. It doesn’t belong here, nor does it warrant kicking people from parties. Kicking people because of their gear is not only rude and disrespectful, but it completely ruins the community. Take a look yourself.

Dungeon kicks are akin to racism? I’m reporting your post. Either you’re straight up trolling, or you simply need a break from the forums for awhile.

My goodness. You may need to grow some thicker skin if that little comparison upset you. And congratulations by the way. That report you already sent in, or are going to send in, is going to do absolutely nothing Welcome to GW2.

You think gear preference is on par with racisum? Nice, not that this thread held any weight before, but you’ve just descredited an possible semblence of validity your opinions held.

And anyone that has ever been a victum of racisum themselves should be offended by your ‘little’ comparison.

See, you’re not the only one that can be dramatic.

Never make content too hard for Exotics.

I’m not a spread sheet guy but if you made a dungeon, for example, doable for Ascended and not for Exotics they would be working with a very very small margin for error.

The desparity in stats is too small to be able to do reliably. They have to account more for player skill then they do for gear and as you said, aside for 48 Fractals, the content leaves so much room for player skill that it wouldn’t be possible to make a dungeon doable for Ascdended users and not for exotics.

So hows the lfg feature working out for ya ?

Better then expected actually. Most of the dungeons I do are pugged at this point anyway and I was a big user of the gw2lfg.com before.

I suspected that the LFG tool would attract more inexpirienced players because of how easy it was to access and for the most part I was right, but the ease of use and the frequency at which groups are formed has made it easier.

I have joined all dungeons through the tool and have had mostly sucesses.

With out even having to address your point, which I don’t agree with, there may be a problem with your thinking.

As far as I know you can not actually see which party member started the vote or which party member seconded the vote.

This would force you to report every member of your group. So you’ll be reporting innocent party members also. Assuming you don’t have a problem with this, the dev support team with quickly identify your reports as false ones.

If false reporting isn’t a bannable offense, they will simply begin to ignore your reports altogether. They may not even tell you they are doing this. Soon enough you’ll only be wasting your time. You will also put yourself in a ‘Boy who cried wolf’ situation where if you end up needing to report someone for a legit offense, your report may be ignoreed due to your history of false reporting.

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

I hope Anet scales the difficulty in direct proportion to the amount of whining and naysaying on the forums.

Now THAT would be a Legendary weapon.

An early dev post described precursors as “exteremely rare exotic weapons”. Further, it was even described as the frist step of the process, afterwhich the players would then go on to acquire the other bits.

Being the ambitious and efficient players that they are, many players found, and now find themselves in the position of needing the first step as their last. Contrary to the intent of the developers.

By the nature of the precursor, the intent really was to lockout the majority of the player base from even attempting the process.

Wow.

That is such a cool quote and it makes the idea of Legendaries to me that much cooler. You know if I had it my way the only thing I would change to the current Legendary system was to make precursors account bound.

The whole idea of something that is Legendary is something that is rare, an epic tale, or story, something we believe but don’t even really know to be true.

If Legendary weapons were only acquired by those who happened by chance to discover a precursor and then begin their quest to forge them into the weapons they were meant to become, they would truly be Legendary weapons.

They should not be something everyone can have. Something anyone can have yes, but not everyone.

The fact that many people currently believe Legendaries should readily accessible to everyone is contrary to the very idea of a Legendary weapon. The fact that people feel entitled to a Legendary simply by being a member of the Guild Wars 2 players base is ridiculous, and if the Devs cater to it will be the very thing that ruins the Legendary weapon class altogether.

There is nothing wrong with the current Legendary system. What is wrong is the sense of entitlement you have if you feel you deserve your ‘Legend’.

If every sword was Excaliber, “The sword in the Stone” would never have been written.

There would be no Legend.

Ran a noob group through AC p2

So I just ran a low level group through Arah p2. We had a level 44 mesmer, level 70 ranger and some other junk. I was on my 80 Guardian.

I did it because they were asking for help via LFG saying they were stuck.

I come in and they are stuck at the Spider Queen. ><

Anyway we did pretty well all things considered. Last boss only took us three attempts, and we didn’t really wipe we just had to ooc and reset traps.

And then.. at the end, after we kill the last boss one group member says..

“Arn’t we going to kill the other guy?”

me: “???”

“kohler.”

me: “Well most groups skip him but we can give him a try if you want.”

Unanimous vote to try Kholer

Lol, we actually hot him down to about 40% before wiping. We didn’t stack or anything because I didn’t want to explain it all. It was fun. We didn’t attempt a second time.

Reminds me of some weird sci-fi plot where the world is largely made up of incompetence yet instead of the elite rising to the top they are oppressed for being exceptional. They are sinful and selfish for having more skills then the rest and they should only use those skills to help out those less fortune then they.

Actually I think Terry Goodkind wrote a book on that.. I think it is called faith of the fallen.

the whole SoT’s series is a good read. Although at some point it starts to feel like the author explaining his disgust with communism through a story in a world with magic.

So what you are saying is that you believe that the ‘casual’ player base are communists..
