There is nothing that is skill gated in GW2 yet.

This couldn’t be more true, it’s sad…

And don’t get me wrong, I am all for more challenging content. I get that guild wars is more about the expirience and there are a lot of players who treat the game as more of a sand box adventure and not a test of skill so I don’t think anything unique should be gated behind skill.

With that being said, I’m all for more challenging, dungeons, jumping puzzles, world bosses, you name it, bring it on.

I think it should be fairly obvious however that gating the legendary skins being skill is not the answer here.

The people that do not want to play the RNG game have the option to save up gold and ‘be rewarded for time spent’ by buying the precursor, or hell, even the whole legendary off the TP.

This doesn’t change the essential inequity of the system.

And your suggestion is?

Make it quest based, a series of hard quests tied into the theme of the legendary, heck its what I thought they were going to do when they first announced legendaries instead of the meaningless RNG and grind that we got.

And its not like once you get a precursor you’ve got a legendary there’s still the grind to make the actual legendary.

Ok so you don’t care if Legendaries are rare. If it meant the Legendary was easier to obtain you’re OK with everyone walking around with one?

I guess that is one side of the argument I didn’t consider. I just love the idea of the Legendary class of weapon actually having some rairity to it.

You make obtaining a legendary quest based and every other person in Lions Arch will be walking around with multiples inside of a week. Not to mention you say they should be ‘hard’ quests….

Hard quests? What are those? Look at the amount of people that find the Antherblade JP too hard? Do you remember what happended when they revamped AC? If I wanted to read the dungeon form I had to roll up my pants cuffs in order to wade through the tears.

There is nothing that is skill gated in GW2 yet. That is your solution to Legendaries? Or when you said ‘hard’ you didn’t really mean hard.

Selling complete Legendaries..

Hello all,

I’m in no way an economist, but I do like reading these forms now and then because I find the whole concept of playing the MMO economy interesting..I’ve even learned a few things about the real world economy by reading through a few disucssions here..>.>.

Anyway I was curious about the people selling complete legendaries on the TP and thought I’d ask about it here.

Is it wise? Is it profitable? I’d assume most people that wanted to sell a precursor would just sell it in the precursor state and be done with it. Can the time investment of completing and selling the entire Legendary be worth it?

What people want, but won’t come right out and say, is this:

I want a legendary weapon so that people will see me with it and be jealous. I don’t want them to be easy to get, I just want ME to have it. Because I see other people with legendary weapons and I am jealous of them, so I want other people to be jealous of me.

There are thousands of players out there with legendaries, and more of them every month. The problem for the complainers is that they don’t have their weapon now and don’t want to wait to get it. But if the system were to be tweaked so that it was easier, a lot more people would get them and then they wouldn’t feel special, so they would still complain because at any given moment there are 50 Twilights running around Lion’s Arch.

They will complain no matter what, so just ignore the complaints, they don’t really mean anything.

I have two legendaries… I still think the amount of RNG is silly; I’m extremely unsatisfied with the current approach. I’d be happy to see others able to get them through things that actually rewarded time spent, not something that gives one person the item in 1 try and the other person still doesn’t have it in 200.

The people that do not want to play the RNG game have the option to save up gold and ‘be rewarded for time spent’ by buying the precursor, or hell, even the whole legendary off the TP.

There are currently two viable ways to obtain your precursor. Gambling for it, or farming for it.

Again I’ll say, what are you asking for? Do you want Anet to just put all precursors in a vendor for 500g each? What will change?

Or do you want it cheaper then that? 100g? If everyone has a legendary, no one has a legendary.

I don’t have a legendary and I feel the same way. It is a TREAT to see a Lendary every now and then. Especially the non-great sword ones because they are even more rare.

It is fun to see people with them, and I do want one of my own at some point. I certainly won’t feel that way if Anet makes them trivial to get.

So what are people asking for then? You just want the legendary’s to be flat our easier to aquire? You want them to be less rare? Should Anet just throw the legendaries all in a vendor like the Teir 3 armor and assing gold costs to them?

What people want, but won’t come right out and say, is this:

Aye this is what it seems like to me. I want one to, and I have not quite come to the point in my game yet were I want to throw a lot of resources at one. I’m OK with that.

But the minute that I log into Lions Arch and see Legendary’s everywhere, is the minute I cross them off my ‘to do’ list.

The jumping puzzles have always been one of my favorite parts of the game. This new one included. (I will admit I don’t like them as much when they are so crowded, and because this one is not sticking around I don’t think I’ll get to see it when it is not, so that is a shame.)

My main is a mesmer, I never use portals to get to the end of a puzzle but I do offer them to others. I reconize the fact the the jp’s are not everyone’s favorite part of the game and I don’t begrudge them for wanting whatever is at the end of them. If it is really more fun for them to take my portal then do the puzzle themselves, that is not for me to judge.

See I’m torn on the whole precursor thing. I think Anet really wanted to create a class of weapon that was rare, hard to achieve and thus rewarding and something to be saught after.

I understand the frustrating people are having trying to obtain one, ( I have yet to seriously try myself yet.), but at the same time I can’t think of another way to truly make a weapon class rare.

Because we have no ‘harder’ content or vertical gear grind, the options are limited to create a rare weapon class. If everyone could obtain whatever legendary they wanted at any time they wanted, they wouldn’t be very legendary. You’d see everyone standing around Lions Arch with the same gear.

As it is now, legendary’s are still fairly rare and I think that is how it should be. People keep asking for a way to ‘earn’ their legendary. I’ve seen requests for some crazy grind that people say they would be happy with because at least they know they would be working toward something instead of gambling for it.

This exists though. Because they made precursors tradable you CAN grind gold to buy a precursor. They could have made precursors a ticket that was bind on aquire and you could trade it in for the one you wanted.

So you can gamble for it, or you can grind for it. There are sure fire ways to progressively work towards a legendary.

So what are people asking for then? You just want the legendary’s to be flat our easier to aquire? You want them to be less rare? Should Anet just throw the legendaries all in a vendor like the Teir 3 armor and assing gold costs to them?

1. Maps are empty – After players have done their 100% completion, there’s virtually no reason to come back. It’s not like, “I just logged in, I feel like doing a dynamic event in Caledon forest” or “I should hop on my alt and do some hearts at Metrica Province.”.

I have many spots around Tyria that I enjoy returning to in order to complete my daily.

I have favorite events that I enjoy returning to in certain zones, and not just world boss events.

I enjoy redoing and taking people through the many jumping puzzles around the world.

I always have at least one alt on the go.

The thing is, your perception is going to vary depending on the server and time you play at.

I see threads reporting the world is empty and then I see threads complaining about PvE culling and getting thrown into over flow maps.

Because Tyria is quite a nice size and there are multiple map for each level range, depending the time you play you will encounter seemingly empty zones, some zones are quite large so it is also quite likely that you could be sharing a zone with multiple people and just missing them.

Personally I play on Tarnished Coast which seems to be a high population server and even leveling up I rarely go very long at all with out seeing other people.

As for using that information to guess at the total population of GW2; Active, inactive, daily, casual.. I would have a better chance counting the cars I see on the road on my way to work and attempting to approximate the total number of vehicles owned in the country.

That is the though part I think for Anet. People’s tatses vary so widely when it comes to the personal appearance of their character it is going to be tough to come out with skins please a majority and then people can’t help be disapointed when a big event like this comes out and the skin that is released for it doesn’t suit their taste.

Just try to keep in mind that the skin you hate someone else is loving right now.

If you were not slowed down at all by being engaged by a monster then they would have no chance to catch or damage you at all. So it is either that or speed up the monsters.

This also increases the challenge for jumping puzzles that involve monsters, when are engaged you are slower and as a result you jump distance is decreased.

Increase rewards (seriously, no drops or junks from more than half the monster with even perma 112% MF?!) and remove DR and then I will engage them, right now mobs on the outside are just there to prevent you from walking around the beautiful maps by clogging view and attacking you, or for events.

I hear ya. I do wish there was more insentive to kill random monsters around them map. Even leveling up the xp reward is so low for killing a monster that if you are not completing a heart it seem like a waste to kill anything. I understand that they didnt’ want leveling to be an xp grind killing monsters.

Problem is I am not too sure what the solution to that is. I don’t think removing the speed decrease is really required. The maps are pretty convienent as they are with all the way points around.

Getting through the monsters you don’t want to engage with out getting slowed down just requires a little pratice. Knowing when to use which skills combined with dodging (latency permitting) I don’t find myself slowed when I don’t want to be all that often.

I think the idea is that you are not intended to be able to just run by monsters in the open world. Certainly from a lore/rp perspective I understand it. You mention Orr specifically, it is not an easy thing to just be able to weave in and out of undead as if they were pilons, so you are slowed down so that you are forced to deal with the monsters, or at least be slowed by running through them.

If you were not slowed down at all by being engaged by a monster then they would have no chance to catch or damage you at all. So it is either that or speed up the monsters.

This also increases the challenge for jumping puzzles that involve monsters, when are engaged you are slower and as a result you jump distance is decreased.

I agree that it can be annoying when you are just trying to travel through a zone, but I do understand why it’s there.

But compared to other MMO’s personal stories, it has been a breath of fresh air. It does get dull when repeating it with multiple characters, but the first time through I had lots of fun.

CryxTryx.9208

That being said I have really enjoyed the personal story on all my characters so far. IMO opinion it is a feature that sets GW2 appart from other games. How do you think the personal story can be improved?

I do wish their were more rare crafting recipies, but I have used my crafting skills as I have leveled up in order to ofit my character with upgrades. It has been fun and rewarding to not just buy all my upgrades from the TP. It makes me feel more invested in my character and that I am contributing to his growth.

How would you improve the current crafting model?

The RNG can be pretty rough, but I will admit it is hard to think of a creative way to make certain things, ‘rare’. Every MMO needs things are rare IMO, those things are the most rewarding things to get.

Even the precursor thing to me is debateable. I see lots of people asking for a way to just ‘work toward’ a precursor. If that were possible though I think it would devalue the legendary status. If anyone could get a Legendary simply by grind, there would be a lot more out there and they would seem less special IMO.

And no I don’t currently have a legendary, and I am not sure I am willing to invest what it will take to get a precursor, and I’m OK with that. What would be the point if anyone could just reach out and grab a legendary?

Not sure what your problem is with loot. Again to my point above, if you increase the drop rate of rare’s and exotics all you do is devalue them. Every MMO, every game has trash loot, that is the only way to rare loot..rare.

Anet has lots of room to grow with GW2 I agree, but your complaints do not seem to have much foundation, and no where do I see any suggestions..

It can be pretty tough to find a group for a story mode dungeon. I want to complete the story mode for each dungeon so that I can initiate the explorer mode for each dungeon if I need to.

I have been in more then a few groups where a member of the group will have to log on to a different character to host the dungeon because none of the players have completed the story mode. Kind of sad really. I would certainly do them off if they were soloable though.

I am looking to make a character that is more WvW focused. I’d appreciate some advice as to what kind of class to role. I had just leveled a Warrior to 40+ and then started to hear things about them not being so great in WvW.

Here is what I am looking for in a WvW character;

I’d like to be a class with a decent roaming capability, and good for small group battles. 1v2, 2v1, ect.

I’d like to be a class that can make the fights last longer. I don’t want to depend on ‘burst him down before he bursts you down’. I’d like to be able to out last my opponent vs, out burst him.

I just tried an engineer and really didn’t have fun doing it. I’m thinking about trying out a ranger for the first time..

I’m level 26 now and I am noticing that white items are still selling for much more then their vendor cost. For example a regular white long bow sells to the vendor for 20c and the lowest price on the trading post is 88c.

Why is this?

I thought at first that maybe these items were not actually selling and they would just sit there, but nothing that I have put up is lasting longer then a day or so.

Am I missing something here? Enlighten me please.

I currently have my Guardian up to level 40 and I had been thinking about getting him going.

Which are the best weapons and skills to be able to just smash through the leveling content?

Also a future question as to how Guardians at max level play. I understand they have a lot of support and defense built into them, but does a Guardian also have the option of building and gearing more offensive? Is it viable to build and play a Guardian who is more built around high damage?

Hello fellow Mesmers,

I’m looking for some direction now that I have hit 80. I realized that since I have hit 80 I did not really take the time to take another look at my traits and skills, and I have no idea what kind of gear I should be working toward.

I mostly PvP. I want to be as effective as I can be in dungeons, though I have not done any fractals and don’t know if I will any time soon.

I don’t do a whole lot of PvP but I do like to jump in WvWvW every now and then.

So those are the areas I would like to be as effective as I can be.

When I did 80 and did the Blathazar event for the first time I just ended up buying a few suit of the Armeggedon Blathazar gear. I knew it probably wasn’t the best but I had the Karma and it was a great way to get a full set of 80 gear.

I have been running some dungeons already and I already managed to pick up a dungeon great sword and regular sword, working towards a focus.

So what should I be working towards? Should I have a full suit of Berserkers?

My traits are 10/10/0/30/20, should I be making some changes there?

My ultilties are blink, deocy and timewarp and then I switch up the last skill based on need.

I would really appreciate and guidance or advice on how to improve my character from here.

I think people are over thinking this dodge jumping technique. When I do it, my dodge button is the default ‘V’ and my jump is the default ‘SPACE’.

I use my left thumb and I press ‘V’ and ‘SPACE’ at the exact same time. This has resulted in a dodge jump for me every single time with out fail.

So you don’t have to try and time press jump and then really quickly pressing dodge. I can see how that would be hard. Try just pressing them both together.

I think it has to do with latency.
I’ve even tried binding it to a single button, and even with computer controlled exacting accuracy it still fails randomly for no apparent reason. And 1/10th of a second didn’t work, I finally ended up with 0.02 seconds just to get it to work at all that’s kinda crazy, and it still doesn’t work right!

I did this after a week of trying it normally with a 1 in 20 success rate, and a whole lot of deaths, because I don’t like using macro’s anyway.

Most of my guild has given up even trying to get it to work, we are all pretty convinced that such a small margin of error does not lend itself to the potential of lag.

I would like to know the answer to this as well, is it strictly against policy?
Because I would prefer it be added to the actual keybinds in-game. I don’t mind doing it normally, jump+dodge, IF it actually worked for me.

I don’t really see how it can be an exploit, since I haven’t found a jump yet that can’t be made normally, and haven’t found anywhere I could get to with dodge jump that I couldn’t get to with a little more precision without it. I mainly like it for the awesome animation on my asura.

Cause right now, for me, even with it bound to a single button it is not at all reliable. Safer to judge the distance without it.

Well I apologize then, it was my mistake to assume that because it worked for me it would work for everyone else.

I am sure latency could effect it and those with a higher ping could indeed have to time it differently. That would make it quite a challenge especially if your ping is not static.

As has been mentioned, “Unique” is a standard term in many many RPG type games that indicates this behavior.

It might not be explained as well as it should be, but there don’t seem to be any serious ideas for how to improve it that exhibit both efficacy and ease of use.

The fact that it is a standard term means nothing to someone who has not played other games using it.

As stated it does not behave in such a way that the dictionary definition of unique would have you expect it to.

It was also pointed out that Guild Wars I did not treat the unique status this way.

So it is far from obvious or self explanatory. Why are so many people unable to look at this from anything but their own view point?

I’ve played many rpg’s and MMO’s, I know what a unique item is. I know I can’t equip more then two, I also know that is not made obvious by the in game tool tip and that 30 laurels is a devastating cost at which to learn this lesson.

There have been solutions stated. There is already a ‘buy’ confirmation window. Simply state in the confirmation window. “You are about to purchase a ‘unique’ item. You can not equip more then one unique item of the same name.” [Buy] / [Cancel].

This is a very easy solution that would simply involve changing the text in an already exiting pop up warning.

Alternatively you can offer a buy back option, even if it is only 10 minutes. Enough time for the player to attempt the equip the item and realize they can not. These seems like it could take a bit more work, and I don’t think it would work as well, especially if the player is buying multiple unique items for an ult and will not equip them till later. A longer timer would allow players to purchase the items, do a dungeon run and sell them back..though I’m not sure why you would do that.

You can also have a player be unable to buy a second of the same unique item of the same name if he currently has one in his inventory or equip. Again more work but should solve the problem. This would not affect a player being able to get the item from the loot table.

Many solutions have been offered.

I don’t understand why players who are in the know are defending against putting a solution in place. Does it hurt you so much to see a safe guard in place just because you don’t need it yourself?

What are the stats on the average ping? I get that some content is harder if you have a poor ping but if you are the minority I’m sorry but asking for content geared for those with a poor ping is quite selfish.

If they trivialize the content for people with average to great pings because people with poor pings that is just bad design. I am sure Anet has statistics that show the pings at which people are connected and I would like the content designed with those statistics in mind.

I think many people are taking for granted what they already know and calling it ‘common sense’ or ‘self explanatory’.

I know what it means when I see ‘unique’ in an item description because I have played many other games where it is used in this way.

Knowing the dictionary definition of the word unique does not tell you how the item will be treated in game terms. It could simply be a distinction of the item’s rarity. If the item was truly ‘unique’ in the sense of the word, only one player could have it, ever..

I wouldn’t want to make a 30 laurel mistake either, I think a sell back feature for these types of vendors would be a great option.

@OP I would open a support ticket and ask for a refund if the extra ring is still in your inventory and you have not salvaged it. The support people do sometimes show mercy.

So I got to work today and sat down at my desk, turned on my computer and attempted to run a program. I encountered a well known bug that might not stop me from doing my job, but it is kitten annoying. I was quite frustrated by this so I went to my work place cafeteria to get a coffee.

When I get in there I look around and notice the 3 or 4 ladies behind the counter are busy making bacon and eggs to serve to people for breakfast…

..I was outraged. This team of people, spending their time, using our company resources to make bacon and eggs when I still bugs on my computer?! Are you kidding me! My work computer is way more important then making people breakfast.

I called each one of them over and told them to follow me. I lead them to my office and told them about the bug on my computer. I told them that I wanted it fixed right away.

I left them in my office so they could work on it. I feel better now. I mean, I don’t care WHO fixes my computer, I just want it fixed. I’m confident that when I get back to my office tomorrow, those cafeteria ladies will have my computer working great.

Hello! I am not sure this is the right forum for this, but the dungeon forum is pretty active so I’ll take my chances.

I just hit 80 on my mesmer so now I have the opportunity to get some max level gear. I was wondering if it was a good idea too buy some Exotics from the Karma vendors to aid in my exp dungeon runs.

If so which type of gear should I start with?

CryxTryx.9208

I’ve read through this whole thread, and some of it more then once and one thing I can say for sure is neither side is going to convert the other over to their point of view.

I could make this really long winded but most people won’t read it anyway so at the risk of being blunt here is my opinion on the state of things as they are now.

Anet has accomplished exactly what they set out to do. They have actually created a skill gate for AC explorer, and here is the truly hard thing about discussing this on the forums. As players of different skill give their opinions on this, they project their skill level, their circumstances on to everyone else. It is a classic human trait.

Those that have an above average skill tend to view those calling the dungeon too hard as players who just want an ‘easy’ dungeon. Because to them, the dungeon is not too hard, and if it were made any easier, it would be ‘easy’ for them.

To those with average to below average skill actually find the dungeon too hard! So when they say it is too hard. It IS too hard to THEM.

Because here is the thing, Maestro’s group DID prove something. They proved it could be done with minimum level classes using modest gear.

So another group using the exact same resources CAN accomplish the exact same thing. The ONLY variables are the players themselves.

Maestro’s group also did it with out a single wipe. You know what, if it would have taken their group hours and hours, and 20+ wipes I would have had to say, “You know what, it probably is too hard.” But if a group of skilled players can do this with out a wipe then there is a whole lot of breathing room for players with less skill.

Now if you don’t have the patients or the time to wipe a dozen times to complete a dungeon, the dungeon isn’t putting those limitations on you, you are putting those limitations on yourself.

(So far in all the dungeons I’ve completed I have not done so with out wiping at least 5 times.)

People say Maestro’s group wasn’t a PUG, it was organized. Honestly it wasn’t anymore organized then going to the LFG website and getting 5 people, BUT even so…

..if exp more is not PUG friendly, does that make it broken? I say ‘No.’ I say, maybe you have to start amassing a friends list of like minding people with similar skills to call upon when you want to complete a dungeon.

You need to pick and choose your people. And I don’t meed say “Only 80 plz.” You can craft yourself to 80 so how smart is it to make that a deciding factor in who runs this skill capped dungeon with you? It isn’t level capped at 80, it is SKILL CAPPED, so find SKILLED people.

If I need 5 people to move a washing machine from my driveway to my basement and I had a house full of people of all ages, all sizes all strengths. I wouldn’t pull in the driveway with this washing machine in the back of my truck and yell from the driveway..

“HEY! CAN I GET 5 PEOPLE OUT HERE TO HELP ME RIGHT NOW!? 5 PEOPLE, ANY 5 WILL DO, JUST GET OUT HERE.”

No because I know I need people with a certain amount of strength to be able to lift that washer and no one get hurt. If I get even one person that can hold up their side of the washer, we can all go for a ‘wipe’ down the stairs.

So why is it surprising to you that PUG’ing an skill capped exp dungeon. A dungeon that was just made intentionally harder by the Dev’s is like getting your 12 year old niece to help you carry a washing machine down the stairs?

Now I know we live in a world where no one wants to hear they aren’t as good at something then someone else. I know we are all good in our own ways. I know that everyone has the ‘potential’ for greatness. I know that we try to be so politically correct these days that anyone who says they are better at the game then someone else is an ‘elitist’, but guess what; There ARE people better then you at this game! They CAN do things you can’t. And AC exp might just be one of them.

That is what Anet has created here. A skill cap. A line in the sand. Does it separate the player base? Yup. That is working as intended.

That is what this small small small portion of the content has been created for. Highly skilled, highly motivated.

So you can either invest what it takes to get there, or you can continue to play the 90% of the content that has been created for EVERYONE to enjoy.

… kitten that was long winded. shrug.

Otherwise you can circle kite with a ranged weapon and only have to dodge his axe throw. As for the elementals themselves, if you are getting overwhelmed they cannot enter the npc bubble.

I’m not sure when you did this and if it has changed since then, but this was part of the problem. We were getting overwhelmed during the elemental phase. I’m only level 73 and the greater embers were hitting me over half my health and knocking me down.

All of the other elementals are ranged, so inbetween waiting for dodge energy to come back you are getting pelted.

Hiding in the bubble is just fine, except you can’t attack from the bubble and you stay in combat while in there so you don’t regen health. If you pop out to getting some attacks in you’re targetted right away and pelted with fire.

Take too long hiding in the bubble and he just seems to reset. The elementals disappear and he starts all over again.

Just got my butt kicked by Drakin Cinderspire a few times. We had about 4 people trying to down the guy and I guess he is intended for much more?

I looked for tactics on the guy and I was surprised that I couldn’t really find anything on how to beat him, or how many players you need ect.

So I’m here! I’ve got a grudge against this guy now, help me out!

Hey I just want to thank the group that did the run and the people that supported them. I tried to post a thread from a new players perspective and I think I did it with the wrong intentions.

I think I actually expected to enlighten a few people as to how a new player actually feels doing these runs, I described my experiences and let people know that it might take a few wipes, but stick to it, and with a group going in with the right attitude and the right expectations you’ll do just fine and you’ll even have fun doing it! _.

For my trouble I was basically just called a liar and a troll, so thank you for going a step further and showing it being done. You may not be new players per se but some of you were new to your class, and you also did it with out a wipe.

I also want to make it known that I would love to be involved in a future run, or just a normal unfilmed run if any of you guys are doing it.

You see, I think my experience in guild wars has been great so far is because I was lucky enough in the groups that I did get that people will willing to teach and willing to rez and willing to wipe if need be.

I say lucky because the forums would have you believe that this doesn’t really exist in game. Well I would like to take out this element of ‘luck’ by actively surrounding myself with like minding people to play with.

So to Meastro, and to all those involved in this video, here is an open invitation from a GW2 noob, invite me on some runs and maybe even add some legitimacy to them that way by inviting a real noob!

I’m on the Tarnished Coast server, my highest character is a level 70 Mesmer named Rekuta. No obligation but I would be very excited to hear from any of you in game.

CryxTryx.9208

Well anyway I think I’ve said all that I can say on this topic. I mostly just wanted to share the perspective of a new player going into this new AC since a lot of people seemed to be speculating on it.

It boils down to this. If the new AC is an example of how Anet intends to redesign all of their dungeons, they are intending for exp dungeons to require a lot of team work, good communication, willingness to learn and willingness to teach. They are not going to be easy.

Personally I am excited for this.

I understand that there are many players who find this increased difficulty tedious, and not fun. I don’t think any amount of debate or discussion is going to change the minds of those players.

Here is the good thing. They don’t have to change their minds. There will still be plenty of content out there that is story driven and allows for more relaxed game play.

Only a small percentage of the content is being geared towards players who want that type of challenge.

You see I like content that is designed to kill me. The Fire Elemental event in Metrica Province is not designed to kill me. All I have to do to complete it is how up, target, and press 1.

I’ve done AC Story and I’ve done CM story. Those dungeons are not designed to kill me. They are designed to tell a story. There is some fighting involved to keep things interesting and the rewards given are proportionate to the amount of effort required to complete it.

The jumping puzzles in Lions Arch are not designed to kill me. They are fun, they take about 3 minutes and I can to practice accurately moving my character around, but there is no risk of death.

This content is fun, it passes some time, and that is good enough for many players, but it is not challenging.

Up until the new AC the only content I felt was designed to kill me was the second jumping puzzle after the spiral in the Sylvari land. You miss a jump when you are high up there, you’re dead, and you have to complete the spiral again to make another attempt. When I beat that puzzle the first time as a new character, I was kitten proud, and I liked that feeling.

Now AC provides that feeling. I would like to see the bugs fixed, and after that it will be a fun dungeon to run when you want a challenge, and I am hoping there is more to come.

Ok to all you New AC lovers. I just ran AC with a random group. I decided I was going to do whatever they wanted/there strat no arguement no fuss. After a few mins of looking I found the group I was looking for they said get off your 39 and on a 80 or KICK. I said ok and got on my War that was spec’d for CoF not AC and I said that, they didn’t care. Skipped the borrows with 2 of them and 2 stayed behind at the starter burow. They whipped twice trying to kill it instead of skipping. “I was laughing”. Everyone died on spider queen in about 20 secs. So rather than have 3 wars,1 guard, and a ele they had 4 glass cannon wars and a ele. My guardian would have been much better suited for that dungeon/group because that is what I have him spec’d for to boon and keep the team alive, my warrior on the other hand is designed for a CoF p1 4 wars and 1 mes build to burn bosses down as fast as possible . Needless to say I felt no reason to stay in the group or give any effort after the first whipe I knew it was a fail team because nobody even tried helping the one nub we had that was screaming he didn’t know what to do. I felt bad and wanted to help him but I was there soley as a follower and didnt want to take the role as a leader. This is the type of stuff the new AC is inspiring and you are all defending it??

That group went in with a handicap as soon as they let you into the group. You went in there with a bad attitude from the start. ’Let’s just see how bad this is going to be and I am not going to help out at all.’

You admit to laughing when the people in your party are dying, you admit to not helping out a player who is saying he doesn’t know what to do.

They might as well went in there a man down because all you contributed was a negative attitude.

I’ll say it again. Content isn’t the problem here, it is attitude, and in this case, your attitude.

Cryx Sooo your a nub that explored the dungeons, without any experinced players, and you were a pro at it. Either your the best GW2 player on earth or your a lying troll. I’ll take the 2nd on that. And Spekin you made a better point than me. Its not fun to anyone atm other some of these people… The old AC was perfect the way it was it could’ve used some fixes here and there but this.. CoF is gonna be the most popular now.

I wasn’t pro at it, if you read my posts we wiped quite a few times, I even specifically said that more then once the wipe was solely my fault.

You don’t have to be pro to get through AC explorer. You have to have patience and the willingness to learn. I followed my party, I targeted what they targeted and I tried to avoid damage by dodging.

I had to use my heal every time it was on cool down and I had to get rezzed mid fight more then a few times.

I never said I was pro. I said I had a good attitude about it and so did my party and that was the key to our success.

Most of the people complaining about AC right now have spoiled, entitled attitudes that feel like everything should be geared down so they don’t have to go outside their comfort level to complete a dungeon.

Thankfully that doesn’t look like the way Anet is going, and that is part of the reason I created this thread, to show Anet that even new players can complete their content and have fun doing it.

@Anet, I’m looking forward to seeing the changes you make to the explorer dungeons going forward. It seems that I joined the game at a good time and I am excited for the changes to come.

@CryxTryx Sheesh. So if my opinion isn’t the same as yours my opinion is invalid? I don’t want easier content. I want fun challenging content. Some battles in AC are lacking that fun factor. That was what I was saying. Do I think they should change AC back to what it was? No.
Want suggestions? Okay then.
AC paths. Each path start the same. Make them start differently (not always the same first boss for example).
Spider Queen room. Hatchlings are too powerful or too many. Lower the power or lower the amount of them.
Spider Queen. She is not that difficult (unless you get really unlucky with poison). The fight just isn’t fun. Maybe that’s okay because she is the first boss.
Howling King. (Path 1 Boss) It is lacking the fun factor. Also, why is fire involved? Lower the amount of adds he calls upon. Make his super howls shake the room and rocks fall down. If rocks fall on adds they die otherwise players have to kill them. If they fall on players they are knocked down and stunned.
Other. Make it so that skills that (champion) mobs have are on a longer timer till they can be used again.

@Kanako Spider Queen wasn’t much fun to fight in my opinion. After the first try we understood the Path 1 Boss mechanics just fine.

I would like to iterate, we just did AC Path 1 and 2 and I enjoyed most of it. The Ghostbuster fight was pretty sweet – it was fun and interesting. The above I mentioned are things I think should be fixed to some extent.

Saying the hatchlings are to powerful tone them down is not a creative suggestion, it is just asking for easier content like I said above.

Saying the Spider Queen just isn’t fun also isn’t a suggestion, it is just a complaint.

Why is rocks falling on adds better then running them through the fire? Because you don’t have to do anything to make it happen? Again, you are just asking to be able to afk the dungeon, I don’t think that is the direction Anet is going.

Giving champion mobs skills longer cool down is not a suggestion for making fun challenging content, it is just yet another request for an easier dungeon.

So even when you make a post with the intention of giving suggestions, all you give are complaints and nerf requests.

wow…. I had no idea there was such a backlash against the “new AC”

I was going to post this in a new thread in the general discussion…. but figured it would be better suited for this forum…

and then I saw this thread.

Anyway….

I knew they reworked the dungeon encounters for Ascalon Catacombs….. but I had no idea it would be so cool.

Detha’s Path is my favorite.

As I’m sure you are already aware, the end boss now requires the usage of the traps to make the boss vulnerable.

The entire thing seems like you are a ghostbuster, trying to get ghosts into traps using the positron glider.

I had an AWESOME time doing this with a half-pug half-friend run, and the boss died fairly quickly once everyone was able to understand the mechanics.

Don’t cross the streams!

haha

Thanks Anet!

You did a great job with this one.

Rofl, that is what everyone said the first time we went in. “Ghost busters!”, I think next time I do it I am going to a quick alt+tab and put on the theme song.

They added more adds to bosses and made some of them harder. They added in more champion beasts and changed what skills they used. AC is a level 35 dungeon and it feels more difficult than higher level ones due to the changes in the mobs. The dungeon should be “easier” than those that come after it.
People I play GW2 with have little raiding experience. The changes that were made DID make AC harder but also made some bosses less fun (Spider Queen and Boss path 1) – and made it feel like WoW raids. I have no qualms about more difficult/challenging content but it needs to be done right – meaning, fun. Boss in Path 2 was super fun.

I’m looking for fun in the games I play along with challenges. Not something that just gets irritating with time. I feel like some players actually want WoW like content in GW2 which is something I was trying to escape from by going into GW2. Guild Missions showed us that WoW like content is already starting to spill over and I feel even more so with the recent changes to AC.

GW2 actually has interesting and challenging mechanics, unlike WoW. The mobility you have in GW2 is amazing, add that to the dodging mechanic and you have some tools at your disposal for some interesting fights. Not to mention switching your weapon set.

When I’m running around with in an inch of my life, rezzing my team mates, switching weapons when I know my cool downs are up. Using stealth, using blink, getting downed, getting back up. That is a challenging fight.

People are always saying things like, ‘adding more health and more monsters isn’t adding challenge, it is just making it take longer’. Well no, it is making you have to sustain your team in a fight for longer yes, and that takes a little bit more skill then being able to stay on one weapon set and just spam skills for 1 minute.

Also this type of criticizing never comes with a suggested solution. How do you think they should have made AC more challenging? Put a jumping puzzle in the spider queens room so you had to jump from block to block while fighting her? Admittedly that would be cool but there would be no end to the rage on that one.

Na, SkyChef is right. You just want easier content. You don’t want to be challenged. AC is too hard for you now, admit it and move on. There is still lots of easier content out there for you.

I just finished P1 with a PUG. Half the group died at the spider queen and at the final boss we wiped completely once. I asked them beforehand if they knew the boss they said yes. We went in and wiped. Apparently they knew the pre-patch boss. Next try, i told them the boss mechanic. Half of the group wiped in the middle of the fight. The rest survived and we managed to kill the boss. On of the last standing guys was a 55 warrior.
I just can repeat myself. Explorable mode dungeons are supposed to be hard. Expect to wipe. Expect that you have to adapt your play to the dungeon. Yes it may be hard for people who don’t know the dungeon but as long as you’re willing to learn and listen to other who know the dungeon it won’t be a problem. If you don’t like to do that then i would suggest to not make dungeons. You can have all the items you need without doing a single dungeon.

@Spekingur maybe you want to tell me where you had problems with “more” adds. Maybe you did not understand the mechanic? I just know that no dungeon is a problem as long as you understand the boss mechanics and know the attacks the mobs use.

Sounds like a fun run. I don’t understand when people talking about wiping in this game they say it like it should never happen.

I have to say, if I run a dungeon and we smash through it the first try through never being in any real danger of dying, how was that fun?

Beating the final boss to a dungeon run with one man standing? Now that is fun.

I think parts of it are harder and remind me of WoW raiding. If I want that feeling I would play WoW.
I’ve just finished going through Path 1 and 2. The way they make it “harder” is the formula of ‘more adds’ almost to the point of overwhelming. While it does make it harder it does not make it fun.

Well in Wow you can’t skip any trash mobs, and GW2 you can just run right by so I am not sure what the problem is there.

If you are talking about Kholer’s adds, all they did was fix it so you couldn’t exploit their pathing any more.

But again, out of all the rewarding content in GW2 only a small, small minority of it is actually challenging. I have not been through all of the dungeons yet, but even in this thread posters have said how easy the other dungeons are even on exp mode.

So you don’t like the challenge, no problem, there is plenty of easier content out there for you. Why are people asking for the one part of the game they think is too hard for them to be changed?

Where I am getting at is how is new person supose to know and have the experince to know when to rip bleeds off his/her allies from gravelings? How is a new person supose to know to take out the statues before going for spiders? How is a nub supose to know about the new ghost eater mechanic?

They are not suppose to know, THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO LEARN! lol.
You don’t give new players enough credit. We’re new, we are not stupid. As soon as I see that the majority of the enemies cause bleeds, I either choose a skill to remove them or I take the damage. Simple as that.

As soon as you jump into the spider fight with the statues up for the first time, you realize they are a problem. The game is full of jumping puzzles, from an early level I was already trained to look for alternate paths. Seeing that block to jump on instead of going down the stairs of death and realizing I can hit the statues from there took 2 wipes but I figured it out.

And again, please refer to the part in my post that states it is unrealistic to think that a group with form with ALL new people. With people who have never done the dungeon before, or have never done it with an experienced person. After my first run I knew the things you claim a new person wouldn’t be able to figure out.

That is alot of trial and error if a team will tolerate you for that long. And this learning curve you keep speaking of is unfounded. What team that knows what they are doing is gonna whipe 2-5 times just so you can memorize a bosses moves?

This is part of playing an MMO. I take it you never were the one of the first people in any dungeon, you have always been carried through by the knowledge of others, and that is fine, but you’ve been spoiled. Even a full geared group of 80’s that have never seen AC before will wipe multiple times figuring it out.

If Anet creates a totally new dungeon, I suggest you wait until it has been mastered by other people before you go in, because from what you are telling me, you couldn’t handle being one of the first to discover it. Let me tell you though, you are missing out.

I’ve never meet a pug group like that and I have kicked people from my party for less. A decent team might have the patients to explain it to you once and maybe point out what your doing wrong once or twice but after that KICK and pull somebody off of gw2lfg that knows what they are doing. People “like myself” don’t want to spend 50 mins in one path because something bugged or a tiny mistake was made and whiped the team

I’m going to stop you there, because we’ve found the problem. Read this part of your post, read it from a new players perspective, and ask me if I would ever want to group with you as a new player. I make more then 2 mistakes as a new player and you kick me? Actually you state you have kicked players for less!

Who is the elitist now? You don’t want to spend 50 minutes in a 30 minute path? You can’t take 20 minutes to show a new player how to do a dungeon? We are not talking about bugs here..

As a new player myself, not even 80 yet, I have spent hours showing people through the jumping puzzles in Lions Arch.

I am not saying this to be offensive, but I am glad I have not grouped with a player like you sir. Because I wouldn’t have learned the content, I wouldn’t have become a better player.

The players that I have grouped with have been patient and courteous. In fact so far I have been very impressed with the Guild Wars 2 community. It is leagues above what the World of Warcraft community had turned into when I left.

The content isn’t the problem, it is player attitude, it is your attitude. And please don’t invite me to any groups if you see me out there, because I may make more then 2 mistakes.

Hell what is worse for a new player experience, a difficult dungeon, or getting half way through a dungeon, making your second mistake and being kicked from the group for being a noob. Sigh.
