CuRtoKy.8576

These are some nice changes and it is nice to have these discussions with developers. Love them

I will go over what I think of the Elementalist since it is my most played profession.

The staff changes are a nice addition and it could make staff a decent option in sPvP/tPvP. In WvW, staff is a strong pick already due to the amount of fields that an Ele can put down to support. For PvE it is useful for high level fractals but outside of that staff doesn’t do as much damage and the support it brings isn’t that useful since dungeons are about reducing damage (LoS, boons, reflects) and damage (might, fury, timewarp). Overall the small change on the staff is good.

Finally conjure changes will be nice. However, it would be interesting to do something new with conjures on the Elementalist besides increase the damage or add additional effects. I’m not sure if it is possible with the current tech but it would be nice if conjure abilities change with the Elementalist’s attunement. Like typically an Elementalist will swap attunements to gain access to different skills or to start specific combos. So making conjure weapons with different abilities based on attunement will bring an interesting dynamic to Elementalist and it might get players away from using cantrips or arcane utilities since conjure weapons will give players additional benefits if they keep it. In the current system you might use a conjure weapon but you will drop it as soon as possible since skills on the conjure weapon is on cooldown or your normal weapon is just better since you have access to more abilities through attunements. I’m sure this will require a lot of work but it might make things interesting and fun.

Focus on the Ele feels like a support OH however, it just doesn’t work that well and it feels significantly inferior to dagger OH or using staff as a support. This is the weapon that should get a rework so that it works better to support allies while being able to equip a main hand that gives you some offensive power. In a sense the focus feels like a OH that should allow you to support yourself and your allies (not as much as the staff) while giving you the ability to have some damage spells from your main hand weapon. Fire attune on the focus doesn’t help your team much and on top of that it doesn’t help you. Fire Aura only adds burning and grants you some might. However, Eles have high access to burning and the fire aura doesn’t stop players from not attacking you or finding different ways to counter like all the other auras. If you have shocking aura, you should not attack and if you do you get stuned. Frost aura if someone attacks they get chilled and you have 10% reduced damage. Magnetic aura reflects and other people can counter with melee attacks. Fire aura doesn’t give a large penality for attacking, in fact people will just attack regardless as if fire aura didn’t really matter. The other skills don’t offer much to support your team like: no healing, range cc but only 1 target which doesn’t help in group fights where a dagger OH can do the job better, Air 4 is nice but it isn’t helpful since in WvW where a majority of the damage comes from melee classes (war + guard) or it comes from fields (necro + staff ele). D/D ele, mesmers have a mix of these two things. Rangers aren’t used and valued much in WvW since they lack a lot of support abilities. Earth is nice on the focus as well but the problem is that you lack damage since the focus OH doesn’t have much damage unlike Fire 4, 5, Air 4, Earth 4, 5 on the dagger OH. On top of that if you run S/F then one of your nice damage moves is hard to hit (Dragon’s tooth [fire 2]). Focus just feels very strange and it is hard to make it effective in its current state so hopefully it gets a good look in the future.

I believe you lol.

The real gate at the beginning is the daily account bound materials and leveling to crafting 500 (since the recipe and stuff for ascended requires crafting 500).

After a while I feel like some people will sell their common crafting materials on the TP and others will use it to make stuff so in theory after maybe a month or two you can craft new ascended stuff faster than you can now.

Luck starts at x/100 then it goes up slowly like x/110 to x/150 which was seen on the stream at around 19% MF. So I’d expect it would take a while to get to 300% MF if Luck scales continuously. This is like WXP in concept (where lower levels are less wxp needed and the max atm per level is 5000 wxp).

a) I believe everything will be account bound so nothing bad will happen if you are still wearing it. Although, there could be bugs on the first day but I’m sure any major bugs will be worked out relatively fast

b) That refers to crafting those stats. So now you can craft say a Explorer’s Pearl Staff with a specific recipe. Post patch that recipe will exist except it will create a different stat combo. Traveler → Dire, etc.

Some of the items are account bound and some aren’t.

Even though some of it you can trade I doubt there will be that many on the Trading Post at the beginning because everyone will be holding on to it to craft their ascended item.

And the daily refinements I believe are account bound.

Celestial is good regardless of MF. Depends on what you need to build. Celestial Armor has more critical damage so the price per 1% critical damage is less if you don’t use condition damage and healing power.

To your examples of a few players using Celestial trikets: I’ll definatively give you that the odd piece or two of celestial can be okay, but that falls into what I said about mixing and matching. For all the rest of your wall of text, I just have to say that massive amounts of writing doesn’t make you right. A full set of Celestial gear is never going to be the best allotment of points, unless of course you want to specialize in being really good at mediocrity.

Where did I say going FULL Celestial (weapons, armor, trinket) is 100% always good? Nowhere. If you read my post I said distribution. And Celestial is a viable in itself in terms of distributing stat points when you are going for multiple stats like power, precision, vitality, and toughness along with critical damage.

So what you are saying is that you are agreeing with me, because 6x Celestial Armor = / = running full Celestial. One would swap in different trinkets and weapon stats to get the desired levels of power, precision, toughness, vitality, and critical damage that a person wants. OP continued to say that Celestial is just plain out bad which I strongly disagree.

To my argument about Celestial stat. If they offset more stats to “make up” for Magic Find it would just make Celestial a better choice. An example is Celestial Coat: which is 45×6 all stat with 6% critical damage and magic find. So 3% MF is 50% of critical damage so say they give an extra boost of 3 stat points to everything to replace MF. It would be 48×6 with 6% critical damage. Total stat would be 288 points and normally a chest piece like knights has a total of 245 points. Difference is 43 which is free stat and the rest you can calculate into critical damage (considering you don’t care about condi dmg). Now that is less than 50% if you replace MF with <50% of one stat and distribute it over 6 stats. If you increase a bit more to like 49×6 then you get a difference of 49 points. That is a free stat and when you calculate critical damage you get ~8 stat point per 1% critical damage (that is low). So in this case if you are already building power, precision, toughness, vitality, and critical damage why would you choose anything else? If you need more power or something after your armor set then just use trinkets where ascended Celestial trinkets give less critical damage than normal ascended Cavalier or Zerk trinkets.

Except you are wrong. Mixing Knight and Berserker evenly gives almost double the Power, much higher Precision, slightly higher Toughness, and a little less than half the crit damage. If you want those 4 stats you are better off mixing Knight and Berserker than using Celestial.

Any build attempting to use all stats is simply a bad build. Bad builds can be effective in open world and/or zerg content, so can bad gear. I’ve been running around for days on my Mesmer wearing a green set of Explorer’s with all MF upgrades doing just fine in open world content and invasions. That doesn’t mean Explorer’s is a good combat set, open world content is just that easy.

Where is your vitality? When I said 4 stat I mean everything not critical damage. Ok so say 5 stats you won’t do better with zerk + knights.

So lets see, a Warrior from Redguard (a very well known WvW guild) uses Celestial trinkets so that means he is a bad player huh. Osicat uses Celestial Amulet in his latest Shattercat 3.0 build. That means he is a bad player huh. Excala D/D Ele uses Celestial trinkets for the longest time. That must mean he is a bad player too. I’m sure nobody in their right mind would say these three players are bad by any measure. And they use Celestial. Why? Because they thought about it in depth, worked out the math and figure there is a benefit to it and used Celestial to distribute stats.

Again I said the less stat you want/need you will not consider Celestial. Like in PvE if you want full glass pure damage then you only care about power precision critical damage. Then you only build zerk (not even knights). Full bunker is just the reverse. However, if your build needs toughness and vitality or even those 2 plus another stat (condi dmg or healing power) then Celestial is a worthy consideration.

Just adding total stats together means nothing. What is important is the weight of those stats which you can bring to bear in combat, and those stats don’t have the same weight (they are not worth the same in combat). If all of the stats had the same weight then everybody wouldn’t be running zerker gear. It’s really not that hard to figure out.

Saying that Celestial gear is good is just wrong. It’s okay for a very few builds, but only okay. So you need 4 or 5 stats? Then buy your armour pieces from two seperate armur types (Zerker and Knights, for example). Mix and match and you can get the exact stat allocation you desire, instead ofsettling for “everything has the same stats”. Decide which stats you need and how many points you want in those stats and buy your gear accordingle. It’s really easy.

Sorry but I’m tired of hearing this rediculous argument. It’s just wrong.

That is funny. If adding stats don’t matter then people wouldn’t complain about Ascended stuff coming out since obviously a few extra points wouldn’t matter. On top of that, if adding stats doesn’t matter just run 5 knights + 1 Zerk chest piece even though someone calculated the critical damage value and it is pretty poor on the chest piece. Also, it isn’t hard to figure out that not everyone runs Zerk build in a WvW setting. Have you seen a full Zerk Ele? Most likely not. There are reasons for that. More importantly, people don’t seem to understand the difference between total stat points and distribution. A 6 piece armor set that is exotic has x amount of stat points every time regardless if you do 6x knights or 6x soldiers. The total is the same, how you distribute these stats is what matters. Do you go 4x knight 2x soldier or 4x soldier 2x knight. The player distributes it based on their skill level, play style, and comfort level. If there were actual “weights” then I would like to know what the weights are for power versus toughness versus vitality versus healing power. I’m pretty sure such a number does not exist and it all depends on the player and their style of play and comfort level. If someone is comfortable with 2300 armor and 15k hp then they would get more damage stats. If they aren’t confortable then they would put more defensive stats (toughness/vitality) and there will be less stat points that can be used with power. It isn’t this hard or difficult to figure out and just simply asking people around you would have figured this out easily. Only a new, poor, and inexperienced player would not see this right away because they do not have a lot of experience in min/max, building characters, and theorycrafting.

Saying that it Celestial stat is bad is simply wrong and it shows a lack of in depth analysis.

Lets take normal shoulder armor for example:

Normal is: 34 Major – 24 Minor – 24 Minor (Knights = 34 Toughness, 24 Precision, 24 Power) | Total of 82 stat points distibuted in 34-24-24 pattern.

Celestial is: 15 × 6 + 2% Crit Damage | Total of 90 stat points distributed in 15×6 pattern with crit damage.

Zerk/Valk is: 34 Major – 24 Minor – 2% Crit Damage | Total of 58 stat points.

With Celestial you get 8 more stat points. And say you think Condition Damage and Healing power sucks (you don’t need it) then the remaining would be 15×2 – 8 which is 22 stat points. Say those are considered wasted stats since you are building power, precision, toughness, and vitality. Then the critical damage is 2% for 22 stat points or 1% for 11 stat points which is better than 12 stat points for 1% critical damage from Zerk considering you need power, precision, toughness, vitality, and toughness in your build. It can be armor, trinkets, or weapons but it has to come from some where and you only have a limited amount of stat points to use.

Exotic Armor has a total of 763 stat points.
Exotic Zerk Armor has a total of 538 stat points with 16% Critical Damage | ~14 stat points per 1% critical damage
Exotic Celestial Armor has a total of 840 stat points (77 stats above normal, this is free) | 203 wasted stats (if condition damage and healing power is considered bad) | ~11 stat points per 1% critical damage

If Celestial is really bad like you say then why do some good/top level players use/consider it?

A warrior from Redguard uses Celestial Amulet and 2 Celestial Rings. Osicat Shatter Mesmer uses Celestial Amulet. Excala D/D Ele has used Celestial trinkets for a while now and is now building Celestial Armor. There are much more calculations on the efficency of Celestial and when to use it. It is really easy people just have to do the work.

You sure are optmistic… we’ll be given the minimum – ascended weapons craftable at lvl 500.

One would hope since it would be really silly for them to make it where you have to craft a bunch of current exotics just to get to 500. And after leveling crafting on alts it sucks since Discovery yields a high amount of crafting experience and if you already discover or there isn’t really anything to discover then it could cost a lot and take a lot of time. Which sucks for most of the GW2 population who don’t have a lot of gold.

CuRtoKy.8576

So you added up the stats…wow. That will surely work out in practise.

lol it does if it didn’t I’m sure everyone would have said it was crap when Celestial Exotic Armors were released. You know if you thought outside of the box and look at the math then you would understand.

If you need Power, Precision, Toughness, and Vitality in a build along with critical damage then Celestial is a good choice to consider. If you already need these 5 stats then you are already building it into a non-celestial based armor set. So say the armor set gives you 1000 points normally (this is without critical damage). It would be divided in 3 stat areas (1 major, 2 minor) then you will mix stuff to get your desired levels of power, precision, toughness, and vitality. And if you want critical damage then you would have to take some stat away. Shoulders are 34-24-24 and if you get Zerk then it is 34-24-2% critical damage. You gave up 24 stats for 2% critical damage. This is important. That is why someone posted the 1% critical damage value of every armor piece, trinket, and weapon.

For Celestial it is just distributed differently. Say Celestial is 1100 points (cause all stat gives you extra stats) then it would just be divided by 6 different stat points which for 4 of them you would have to use anyways. The other 2 stats part of it you will get for free since you get additional stats for Celestial based items. For the remaining stat you can calculate for %critical damage since again you want that in your original build.

So my original argument is that if you give Celestial more stats it will just become the #1 choice for anyone that is not building a full bunker/glass cannon character and they need 4-5 stats in their build. The key is that things are just distributed differently but overall an entire armor set gives X amount of stat points for you to allocate. Same reason why some people mix knights, valk, zerk, and soldiers instead of just goings for 6x knight or 6x valk or 6x soldiers.

The math works out and GW2 uses these mathematical calculations to determine damage and damage mitigation. Feel free to do the math yourself if you don’t believe me.

CuRtoKy.8576

Actually, Celestial gear is good if you do the math. And if they added extra stats to offset the MF then it will automatically be the gear of choice for anyone that doesn’t focus 3-4 specific stats (Full Glass/Bunker builds).

Example:

Say normally you get 200 stat points and it is divided as 90 Major, 55 Minor (x2). And Celestial gives you 210 total stat points divided into 35×6 + critical damage. If you increase the total stat then it becomes an automatic choice for a lot of builds. Say it was 40×6 to offset then you get 240 stat points. That is 40 stats more than a normal triple stat gear. Therefore you get a free stat and have critical damage.

Celestial is fine with or without MF. People like myself bought it because the math showed that it was a good set to use if you need at least 4-5 stats in your build.

Well I think the complaint is that some people saved up certain things and it would be nice to know so that they can do certain things with it. It is like if you have say a weapon ticket (even BL weapon ticket) so that you can get any weapon (cost=1 ticket). All of the sudden they change it where they require 3 tickets to get a weapon that would be unfair since some people save their ticket because they don’t know what to buy at that moment. If ArenaNet came out and said they would increase the price or that you can’t buy the weapons after a certain time then that would be fair.

Things that don’t need warnings are like fixing the Ember farm which exploited the fact that you can just fail or not do the event and it will be worth more. Or fixing exploits that people may use to earn money, karma, or make achievements easier to obtain. I think there is a fine line and for Karma I think it was a legitimate complaint.

Living Story takes away from the world...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CuRtoKy.8576

CuRtoKy.8576

To add: Seeing zergs of people in a mid level zone is not making it alive. Those zergs do not care about the dynamic events going on around them. All the development time spent on some of the gorgeous zones is just simply wasted when they are empty, or zergs of people run by to get to the next living story carrot. That content is left to the people leveling. Or, better.. it is shelved until the invasion is over.

The problem is that dynamic events don’t add much to the world. They are something to do but they have nothing of value attached to them (reward or story).

Most people do events in most areas when they are leveling up a character so that they gain experience. However, these events leave nothing noteworthy to write home about. Like personally I don’t care about what happens during these events. I know most people don’t even read or care why they are escort a person from point A to point B or even why they are helping this person.

Living Story isn’t perfect but I like that they are trying to add something to the world. Because of certain events, people build additional settlements in Southsun and you can still see the things on top of that. In addition this patch they add the invasion which they said will occur even after the patch but it will not be as frequent. That is interesting because it progresses (something change) and you can see the impact of fighting against Scarlet, over time as you defeat more of her army or as the story about her progress you will see less of her forces in the open world.

I’m sure they are experimenting with different ideas in these updates but these things are much better than the old Dynamic Events.

This is incorrect because people doing the invasion are in the open world PvE areas. Some of these are mid level areas too. Low level areas are excluded since it can cause problems with players starting the game for the first time.

WvW on top tier servers are populated regardless of the Living Story updated. The case where it is empty could be a problem with WvW itself. Servers have WvW population fluctuation on low population servers or people don’t show up due to a poor matchup for the week.

Prior to today’s update Orr, specifically Cursed Shore was a farming area at least this was the case for high population server.

I have a feeling that the playing experience differs on different servers and your problem could be playing on a low population server.

Except no matter the QA you will still have bugs regardless. There is nothing that will ever come perfect. It could be worse where there is a bug that exist but it doesn’t get fixed for an extended period of time. The fact that it gets fixed fast is a good thing. At the same time QA will never pick up everything that players in a live environment will pick up because there are people who play in very different ways and do different things. That is how some bugs are discovered. An example is glyph of elementals on Elementalist where you can apply a condition to yourself under specific conditions.

Likely possiblity is that people are crafting their legendaries now since people can acquire gold easily with this patch.

Celestial gear IS obsolete. Magic find isn’t the reason why. Why bother crafting exotic celestial armor now when the ascended equivalent is going to roll out in a couple of months?

Because nobody is sure if they’ll have that particular stat set or the time it takes to make it (the ascended stuff are time gated).

If you need all-stat for your build then just make the exotics now.

I think it’s a bid on the future of crafting, if quartz, and expecially charged quartz, will be a mats used to craft up to 500 for any profession, who bought it in time will do a crapload of money, otherwise if quartz will be used only for celestial exotic stats as now, it’s price will be stationary or be subject to a slow increase.

I doubt it’ll be used for crafting up to 500. I think it will be new materials that ArenaNet will introduced that are daily bound that will be used to progress to 500 on top of the existing T6 mats.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: CuRtoKy.8576

CuRtoKy.8576

Its hardly screwing anyone using quartz in ascended recipes.. its barely the price of a t5 material and the only reason its climbing so much is hundreds of people stashing away 50 stacks… it would seem stupid to have made that home instance for absolutely nothing so I’m betting it gets used.

Yeah but the problem isn’t supply the problem is how would a player who didn’t do the event or came into the game now acquire it outside of the TP?

If they make the sellers come every year then it would take a while and we know crafting 500 is coming out by the end of the year. If they add the nodes or allow you to enter the map but the merchants and stuff aren’t there cause the event isn’t happening then it would be pointless to buy Quartz because people would have the means to acquire it.

The thing with the home instance is that it still serves a purpose for people that need to create celestial exotics since they are account bound. Under that case it is similar to Azurite which were used for a particular stat set. Azurite wasn’t used for anything again and on top of that I’m sure nobody thinks that Azurite will be used for 500 crafting.

I think these are the possiblities:

1. Quartz are used exclusively for Celestial exotics. ArenaNet put in the home instance node to test how people will use/like stuff in their home instance (similar to early Living Story).

2. ArenaNet adds Quartz nodes beyond the home instance and makes them a part of 500 crafting. Prices will stabilize at a price depending on the use and amount of Quartz needed.

3. Quartz are only used for crafting Celestial Ascended and not for progressing to 500 in any crafting profession.

To me I think there are better investments and I don’t think Quartz will pan out based on these reasons.

It is an issue that turns people off, though, and that’s kind of serious, at least from the perspective of someone who would rather enjoy content and have fun than get burnt out on repeatedly running instances. Anet built this game up as being anti-grind and anti-loot treadmill. Having to park myself in an instance and run each path for 8 days to get a set feels very grindy, it’s almost no different than farming an instance in WoW to get items to drop, the difference being that the time sink is somewhat mitigated, but even in WoW you could get lucky and get your item on the first run sometimes.

It’s not that we want easy gear, it’s that we don’t want to feel arbitrarily constrained in how we obtain the gear; it goes against the whole design philosophy of this game.

Except it doesn’t take 8 days o.o . In the past if you wanted to farm a dungeon for tokens you couldn’t just do AC p1 on character x swap to character y and do AC p1 again for a total of 120 tokens. Either way you would have to grind it out.

What I don’t understnd is if someone needed tokens why would they stop doing it after getting the daily 60 for each of the 3 paths. For easy dungeons like AC you can run in 35-40 minutes (3 path total) and I’m sure if you swap characters there hasn’t been enough time for you to get the daily 60 again. On top of that if you really needed the tokens then you would continue to farm it unless the real problem is that gold rewards are good after running it second time.

Either way it isn’t a grind you just have to wait. For <45 minutes you can get 180 tokens or you can grind for more. Tokens aren’t time gated it is just if someone cares about gold then it is rewarding a second time. Plus, if you hated token grind now then I doubt you would have done multiple hours of the same dungeon (outside of CoF p1).

So they went through the trouble of adding a personal node to our home instance just for the heck of it then? No, they added it, at least in part, knowing they needed it to be of not too limited supply when ascended is released.

The problem is that people who missed the event cannot acquire the home instance node anymore. So if they up crafting to 500 you likely won’t see the use of quartz because it is unfair to newer players or players that missed the event who want ascended items.

If they do end up using quartz then they will likely add additional ways to acquire quartz crystal so it’ll be pointless to invest in it since there would be additional ways for people to acquire it like a daily reward for doing JPs, mini dungeons, some WvW, or something similar like they stated for account bound materials needed for crafting 500.

Queen's Gauntlet Farmers and (not) Reviving

in Queen's Jubilee

The fact is non farmers are greedy as well. I have seen domes that are empty or they have 2-3 people doing the achievement. If you want a revive go there since people will have time between fights to revive you. If you go to a farming dome don’t expect people to revive you when they are trying to speed clear. It is like asking for people to not skip in dungeons because you want to fight those mobs when other people are in fact trying to speed through it.

What non farmers do is they go to domes so that they won’t wait long but in fact they have to waypoint afterwards because there will not be a res. Instead why doesn’t the person just go to one that other people are doing the same thing so that they will get revives? I have seen populated domes on different servers and overflows but instead the people trying to get the achievement are greedy and lazy to wait.

Like I res people and try to find farm domes and ignore the domes people are trying to complete the Gauntlet. But often people just go to a farm dome and try to take it over.

I even got a PM from someone trying to troll me (20+ minutes after I left):

X player: come back to crown pavilion
Me: come back without a guildie lol
X player: mad?
The player you are trying to whisper is not online.
(I think you are since you message me when I finished farming a long time ago)

TLDR: Non farmers are a problem too.

Soulbound on Acquire and the Account Wallet

With the introduction of the Account Wallet shouldn’t most items that are soulbound be account bound now since their currency is account bound. Like badges of honor items, dungeon items, and karma items.

I wonder if this is an oversight or a technical limitation. Since it doesn’t make sense to have to switch characters to buy these things when the account wallet was created to make it easier for you to use your currency on any character.

the red circles are a problem, the floor along with the bad camera not to mention if you are colorblind then red circles won’t be as obvious.
you’re just gonna alienate a player base because YOU don’t have a problem?

the adds will spawn behind you out of your line of sight, W,A,S,D has nothing to do with the kittening problem.

There are patterns like the poster you quoted was saying. So like use the pattern it is not RNG or random at all. Both the AoE and the spawns. As for colorblind well that is unfortunately a game issue not a content issue. You can complain about not seeing the AoE circles for a lot of different content. So the suggestion should be that ArenaNet should develop a colorblind system. The content in itself is fine, mechanically speaking.

the crystals have everything to do with luck, nobody in the entire world has enough micromanaging skill to time and run everything perfectly in this fight especially since its a 2 min time limit.
not to mention the short time they exist not the ground, their entire being is time dependent.

and yes i do mean character, and no its not an excuse that W,S,A,D bullkitten is a stupid excuse to why its poor design.

the adds may move pretty slow but they all don’t spawn behind white circles not to mention you have to focus on killing liadri before the time runs out. and slow moving things are naturally going to be out of your mind before its to late, because they aren’t that big of a threat until theres to many of them.
and you may can range her but she still fast and mad and jumps at you all the time.

May I quote what you said previously:

i’m going to use dark souls as a comparison since its literally a perfect example, if you go into that game new and inexperienced you are going to die, die, die, die, die, RAGE, die, RAGE, die, SUPER RAGE, destroy something. you then look up what to do you come back and succeed somewhat but still die, but you make it farther and farther until you get to the boss.
where you die, die, die, die, die, die RAGE, die, RAGE, die RAGE, die SUPER RAGE, stop playing before you break something else, look up how to beat the boss.
find out you can get good and beat it the old fashioned way, get it to jump off the plateform, or cheeze the fight with an exploit or certain build.

its challenging but exploitable so EVERYONE can enjoy it, and not have it RNG gated.

this fight should literally be the same way where if you don’t know what to do you are going to die, waypoint, repair, runback over, and over, and over. or you can be smart and look up how to beat her, much like dark souls.
its still gonna be challenging but at least people will know what to do.
and not have to go VIGOR, VIGOR, MOAR kittenING VIGOR!!!!!!!!!

So why make the comparison when other people have already stated patterns and ways of defeating this fight? If you don’t follow the AoE pattern you waste dodges and eventually you die because you can’t dodge when you need it. Want to semi exploit it? Well run endurance food or Vigor. I personally did the fight with no extra endurance regeneration.

The adds spawn only at specific locations if you know them then you can avoid it 100% of the time. And when they move you can manage that through your own skills since they aren’t immune to CC. If you refuse to run these things then of course you will not have anything to use if they get too close or you didn’t notice one of them. So yeah it is about know what to do, being smart, changing your build, understanding the pattern, and practicing. If you refuse to do any of this then of course you would have a bad time. The content is challenging where you have to practice and understand the mechanic but it is not insanely difficult. I beat the final boss as a full bunker guardian.

Am I the only 1 in gw2 that plays glass D/F?

Lack of burst damage, lack of sustain, and mobility.

Focus isn’t that strong enough to warrent a change from dagger OH and this is coming from someone that plays a lot of d/f and s/f in the past. Focus has defensive powers like the dagger OH they are just different in how they handle defensive situations. However, Dagger OH gives you more options.

Anyone else stop getting gear bc of Ascended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CuRtoKy.8576

Nope because if a build isn’t good with exotics it wouldn’t be good with ascended anyhow. On top of that I use the build websites to see the numbers before I buy trinkets, armor pieces, and weapons.

Ascended is good but you aren’t going to like be useless without it. The only thing I can think of is if you want to min/max for like pure glass cannon then ascended may help in taking someone from 100 to 0 quicker. But I have seen people WvW fine on exotics it just depends on your build.

PVE'ers interested in PVP?

CuRtoKy.8576

Even though this is a PVP related question, I’m posting here because it’s directed GW2’s biggest population base (hence this forum) and their interest (or not) in PVP (not including WvW). Currently the PVP population seem pretty small and alot of people in that community are wondering how to get more people in and interesting. Wondering how many of you:

1. Have tried PVP? If not, why?
2. Tried it and liked it or not?
3. Are active PVP players?
4. Done both WvW and PVP: which do you prefer and why?

1. Yes

2. A bit of both. I like having smaller engagements (1v1, 1v2, 2v2, etc). No skill lag and the different objectives (secondaries → Spirit Watch orb and such). What I don’t like is the lack of rewards (both for PvE an PvP). You can’t get a lot of gold or anything playing PvP and on top of that the progression in PvP is very slow where you have to be a hardcore PvP player to progress to a higher level in a short period of time. As a casual player you’ll be at the same rank for a long period of time. Lastly, the lack of different stat sets in PvP. I know it is for balance but it would be nice to get a variety of stats that you can use to build your profession in PvP.

3. Somewhat, I try to PvP for a few days per week.

4. I like them both. However, I would WvW more since the rewards are better (e.g. going towards legendaries) and the progression is faster. WvW wxp is easy to acquire so you can progress levels and get upgrades versus PvP where the rank progress is slow. Finally, WvW I can use a wide variety of stat sets and this is fun since I can theorycraft and build my professions in a variety of ways.

"We know the Abaddon story" - no we don't

Wasn’t there a game called nightfall that was all about abaddon, it doesn’t matter how he fell. We know he did end of story. We know nothing about the reactor. The gods are long gone, why does it matter about them.

This is such a lame argument.
It doesn’t matter how the reactor blew up. We know it exploded and its rubble now. Rooba vacuums it once in a while. End of story. Why does it matter? Bulldoze it over and be done with it.
Seems to go both ways. Both events are in the past.

It was an Asuran city based on what the asuran npc said. People often mistake this simply as a reactor because they don’t read or look at the lore for gw2.

even anet wants evon to win.! you can see it at the representation banners part at the patch notes.. it would take a miracle for ellen kiel to win!!

And when the rewards were first leaked people were saying ANET wants Kiel to win. ANET as a development team has no preference for either to win. The community just loves their tinfoil hats.

That said I’m fully ready to believe a couple people HAVE spent that much gold/money for their candidate even if this particular screenshot is fake.

People just want gw1 lore and they are willing to sacrifice gw2 lore.

Why the Abaddon Fractal is Irrelevant

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: CuRtoKy.8576

CuRtoKy.8576

Abaddon is literally the most important character in the entire guild wars universe.

He is responsible for:

  • Gifting Magic to the races of the world (that means without him, you’d only have access to Warrior, Engineer, Non-spirit rangers and maybe thieves)
  • The Crystal Desert (sort of. The Crystal Sea was his domain and their is lore regarding the crystal desert and how it ties to him and particularly his fall)
  • The Jade Sea
  • The Echovald Forest
  • The Charr being the way they are today. (No titans, no magic, now war on humans, no hardened war veterans, no revolt against the flame legion. The Charr would be nothing without Abaddon’s intervention)
  • The Lich and in turn the honing of the Character’s skills which thus lead him to be able to defeat the Great Destroyer. (from a lore stand-point, the PC of GW1 in EoTN was the one from Prophecies, but it actually applies the same for each campaign). Had the Great Destroyer not been defeated we’d all probably be dead.
  • The Gods’ Exodus. Good or bad, this is a major part of Guild Wars lore.

And so much more. Abaddon’s Fall is literally one of the most important moments of guild wars lore, along side the last rise of the elder dragons, the arrival of the gods, the arrival of humans, the birthing of Sylvari, the freeing of Glint/Glaust.

To call the ‘Fall of Abaddon’ irrelevant is to blatantly admit you know absolutely nothing about the lore in even the slightest. Vote for the Thaumanova if you wish, but in terms of relevance, FoA is far more relevant than Thaumanova. This is objectively speaking.

tl;dr calling the Fall of Abaddon irrelevant to the Guild Wars universe is like saying the French Revolution is irrelevant to human history.

Except you don’t know much about the other situation and it could add a lot to the lore. Or it may prove to be important since we know very little about it. The place was once an asuran city rather than a simple reactor. The inquest studies dragon energy and they are in conflict with us on multiple instances. Aetherblade, the dungeons, and so on. I think this is more important to GW2 lore to cast it off as not important compared to Abaddon is just silly
