To be fair Mighty. You have not demonstrated any useful knowledge of the game. Nearly all your posts beg the question, you spend a lot of time telling us how good you are as if that should have any consideration whether the mesmer should be nerfed, and you constantly propose false equivalencies. The person who seems to know the least about how the mesmer works in pvp is you. However, you do boast a lot about being an expert. Perhaps it is time to show rather than tell.

DaShi.1368

Here are some good mesmer fixes:

MindWrack: Range of damage increased, damage scales based how close target is to illusion when it shatters.
Cry of Frustration: Doubles application of confusion to 4 per illusion.
Blurred Frenzy: Target is now dazed, if hit.
iLeap: Increased range to 900
Spatial Surge: Removed damage scaling. Weapon does highest damage no matter the distance from target.
Mirror Blade: Creates a clone for each hostile target it hits. Can not longer bounce off of illusions
Phantasmal Berserker: Hits a single target at least three times to a max of five.
iWave: Causes all enemies within 1200 range to do the “wave” emote.

Etherbolt: Applies confusion
Confusing Images: Creates clones that instantly shatter on target while channelling. Up to five clones created. Shatter effect is cry of frustration

Into the Void: Now sends targets to a random location on the map.
Phantasm Warden: Now follows target before activating attack.

Phantasmal Mage: Doubles attack frequency. Now applies a random condition on attack for 5s (poison, bleeding, confusion, cripple, agony). Conditions are five stacks or three times their duration. Attacks also strip boons.
The Prestige: Burning and blind conditions are reversed in timing.

Phantasmal Duelist: Now insults target when attacking.
Magic Bullet: Can hit Queen Jenna if fired from any library in Tyria.

Mantras: Reduced cast time to one half a second.

Decoy: Invisibility now stacks with other forms of invisibility. Duration increased to 5 seconds.
Mirror Images: Forces all nearby enemies to target one of the clones.
Portal: Once exit is set, can be activated to pull all nearby enemies through the portal
Mimic: If doesn’t absorb a projectile, steals random utility skill from target.
Illusion of Life: Fully rezzes downed allies. If nearby enemies fail to down one of them in 60 seconds, the enemies are downed.
Phantasmal Defender: Now uses Shield Bash
Phantasmal Disenchanter: Summons any other phantasm to replace itself
Signet of Midnight: Boon duration improvement increased to match other professions. Active effect now creates a smoke field.

Mass Invisibility: Now gives mesmer all boons for five seconds so they can use other runes.
Moa Morph: Target no longer transformed. Instead target is forced to use the “cry” emote for ten seconds.
Time Warp: Now works as a shout

Deception: Mesmer vanished for one second. Creates two clones nearby. Mesmer is randomly swapped with one of the clones.
Phantasmal Rogue: Now instantly defeats all nearby enemies.

Mesmer is not squishy. They have alot of mobility, and alot of clutter. Blurred Frenzy is over kill.

i dont think you understand the problem with mesmer melee?

Without blurr frenzy, there isnt much reason for a mesmer to stay in the melee range for long periods of time. Many of mesmer active defensives have a quite long cd. The cooldown are migrated due to the fact that there is a weapon swap and the invulnerability remove two seconds to the cooldown. Which means, changing blurr frenzy will kill any melee mesmer build.

However, I think anet messed up when designing the class that caused them to add that powerful effect.

Of course, the alternatives are quite bad too.

If mesmer added extra evade to their weapon set, then they are effectively copied the ranger

If the mesmer have more mobility, then they copied the thief

Adding more damage copies warrior hundred blades and anet will might nerf it later on

Adding more range will mirror the d/d elemental which is not a true melee weapon

This is a very good point. TheMightyAltroll doesn’t understand these kind of mechanics of gameplay. Despite his arguments being countered, he just repeats them over and over as if they will suddenly make sense. There’s a reason that he regularly compares the mesmer to warriors and necros. Those professions make any of the other professions look OP. In fact, I’d target the weakness of warriors and necros as the major balance problem because it creates the kind of unreasonable expectations TheMightyAltroll posts here.

All the professions, except the warrior and necro, get these kinds of complaints. They come from two kinds of players. Those who die quickly to bursts (warriors, necros, and poorly designed/played builds) and those who expect their build to kill everything as quickly as they can kill warriors and necros. Thus, rangers get complaints about being too hard to kill and their pets doing too much damage. Guardians are too hard to kill. Eles are too hard to kill. Thieves are too hard to kill and do too much damage. Engineers are too hard to kill and do too much damage. Mesmers are too hard to kill and do too much damage. I’ve seen them all. When necros and warriors get the defense they need to survive the bursts from the other professions, we will see a lot less complaints. There will still be some. Bads are bad, afterall.

So rather than nerfing, I’d like to see all professions made as competitive as the ranger, engineer, thief, and mesmer. These are the professions that are doing it right. They do enough damage to take out the defense of other professions and have enough defense to survive attacks. Plus, they each have unique styles of play that make the game interesting. Decreasing their damage or removing their defense (or if TheMightyAltroll gets his way, both) will just create more imbalance. If the game was just warriors and necros, they all just be one-shotting each other as soon as they meet. Maybe some people want that kind of game, but I’d imagine they are in the minority and don’t seem to be the type that Anet is catering to.

Here are my rankings:

Balanced:
Thief
Ranger
Mesmer
Engineer

Need more damage:
Elementalist
Guardian

Need more defense:
Warrior
Necromancer

This is not a flame. This is a legit question. I’m a lvl 31 mesmer and loving the profession but don’t understand all the GS love. It’s single target, has a range requisite or the auto gets weaker, #3 is useless in open world, and its phantasm seems lackluster.

I’m no mesmer pro, so explain to me why GS is a better ranged option than staff or scepter/x.

Actually, it is not a single target weapon. The beam skill hits up to three enemies in it path (and often adjacent to you and the beam as well). Throwing it bounces. Mind stab can hit multiple enemies. iBerserker is great to throw in the middle of crowd for lots of hits and is capable of beating the 5 limit of most AoEs. Finally, the knockback can hit multiple targets.

I’d rather Moa be replaced with a more useful skill.

DaShi.1368

Ok. Phantasm build is superior to shatter build in 1v1. This is true, however that doesn’t make Phantasm build OP. What makes it OP is bad players who sit there getting fired at not knowing what to do. Blinds totally negate phantasm summon. Unless traited, phantasms are relatively easy to kill as well. Those are just two easy ways to deal with phantasms, you could spec for blocks, reflects and much more on any given profession. Hell AoE spamming works well too. People who say phantasm build can’t be used outside of 1v1 is wrong. It needs context, does a phantasm build work in WvW where zergs are massive? Nope, does it work in 5-10 Mans, you bet it does. I’m tired of people calling things OP, there are plenty of counters, use them.

This. I’ve lost against many classes until I learned how to fight them. Depending on my build, there are some I do avoid fighting alone. However, mesmers, now that I know their tricks, are no longer much of a threat. In fact, I can’t remember the last time one killed me 1v1.

What’s the reasoning for buffing something else, if the skill is being adjusted, because it is overperforming?

The reasoning is that it is not overperforming. But you refuse to see that, just because it has become, like another user said, the whine of the month.

No the whine of the month currently is the mesmers who refuse to see when their class is horribly overpowered, and always was.
Like seriously, you say, they got nerfed every single patch. Yet they are considered, according to the long running thread in this forum, the second best class at the moment, and always have been in the Top3.
If all these nerfs were unnecessary, how can it be that they are still more powerfull then 75% of the classes? If these nerfs were so uncalled for, and all of them are class destroying nerfs, then mesmer should be in an unplayable state, with damage numbers like other classes using steady weapons, and incoming damage of naked necros.

Guess, it is because those few still playing mesmer have godlike skills at playing GW2. Every single mesmer player is just so much better then everyone else, that they make this class, which got constantly nerfed and is the absolute bottom tier of every MMO in existance or ever made, working.

I wholeheartedly support that the mesmer class be left alone as is. As well as the thief and guardian.

That guarantees that more of the remaining pvpers will be leaving the game for ESO with me.

Have fun dueling your own mesmer/thief class in arenas.

This isn’t a concern because mesmers and thieves don’t dominate the arenas despite the hyperbole over their skills and mechanics.

Blurred frenzy is the one and only reason a mesmer would enter melee. It offers the damage and risk mitigation to make it worthwhile.

Sounds like mesmers need more reason to go melee then. Also, since when does Blurred Frenzy need to be used in melee? You realise the immunity doesnt have melee range, right? Sounds like we should change that eh.

The only reason to go melee is to go immune. And you wonder why other classes go ‘wtf’.

This is not what I said. And a lot of it doesn’t even make sense in any context.

Without blurred frenzy, a mesmer would never enter melee because the risk would far outweigh the reward. In essence, they get about 2 seconds of effective melee time every 8 to 10 seconds. How would a warrior feel that if 8 out of 10 seconds in melee it is a complete sitting duck doing no damage?

You’ve got:

1) Stealth in utilities, which also works as a stun-breaker and clone generator, as well as stealth on (albeit lacklustre) weapon sets
2) Ports on both weapon sets (staff and sword, only the GS is lacking in that department), good port on a relatively low CD in utilities (but no stealth then), AND the portal, which is obligatory anyway, and virtually the best mobility skill ig (and also a combo field, if I remember correctly).
3) Good access to boons, especially because of the nice combo between n2 and n5 staff as well as n2 staff and null field/time warp/portal.
4) Decent access to interrupts/pulls/knockbacks, depending on which doublehand and offhand weapon you go with. Mind the staff field is AOE interrupt, and so are sword offhand n1 (although it is somewhat lacklustre compared to the rest) and focus pull, which makes them all the better.
5) Clones, which give you at least somewhat of an advantage (depending on your positioning), especially while in stealth, because the opponent has to manually look for you and re-target you in the midst of 2-3 clones (the trick of unticking ‘show npc names’ isn’t fully reliable to find the real mesmer, because clone names will still show if you randomly hover over them).

Um…this is a thread about blurred frenzy and the effectiveness of a sword mesmer in melee. If a mesmer is not using a sword, it is not planning to fight in melee. Nothing you posted addresses these issues at all.

Entering melee is about risk/reward. For the light armored professions, the risk in entering is far greater than for heavy armored professions. Eles rely on boons and conditions to do it. These allow them to move in and out quickly, which is necessary because they don’t have the option of switching to a ranged weapon in combat. Necros have it pretty tough in melee, but their daggers offer them some support with conditions. In addition, they can churn out some good damage in melee, making the risk worthwhile.

Blurred frenzy is the one and only reason a mesmer would enter melee. It offers the damage and risk mitigation to make it worthwhile. Some are arguing that it should be nerfed but aren’t really making a case for it. I could call dancing daggers OP and whinge forever in the forums about it, but that won’t make it true. I could come up with argument that demonstrates how dancing daggers is negatively affecting the meta (much in the way RLT did). That would get more attention than crying OP. Anet doesn’t balance around hotjoin and they didn’t balance around random arenas either. There’s a clear reason for this.

Yes, in that case, the issue is not the mesmer because it is the same for all classes, which has been my point from the beginning. I really don’t see what you are getting at.

You were defending Mesmers based on the belief that these strong skills are ‘easily’ dodged. When I explained that they aren’t, and are infact easier to land than any other skill from any other class. Even if they were slow, they would still be landable.

You obviously have difficulty debating by not understanding the flow of logic from your opponent. Naturally your first defense towards this is ‘then learn to get your point across’. There comes a point in which you must also compromise and learn how to understand an opponent’s point. Which you apparently do not do.

I said that iLeap is just as easily dodged as other classes. You provided no argument that they are easier to land than other classes. Your argument is that in a hectic fight, slow attacks are harder to avoid. You provided no argument as to what makes the mesmer exceptional in this situation.

The problem is not Blurred Frenzy. It is the broken piece of crap that is Illusionary Leap. It’s nearly impossible to telegraph, and most of the time doesn’t leap, but just appears right in your face. UNAVOIDABLE. Shimmerless there is nothing distinctive about the animation, especially on Asura, which most Mesmers seem to run. How can Warrior leaps be so slow and obvious, but Illusionary Leap is a super speed run/leap that pops up next to you and says HI IMMOBILIZESHATTERRRRRRR.

It is not unavoidable. Both the animations of the mesmer and the appear of a the sword clone leaping at you are clear tells and not very fast. They give you more than enough time to react. Only swap is fast, but there are ways to avoid that as well. If you aren’t able to react to these, then every class will need nerfs on their skills to accommodate your abilities.

Funny… because Necromancer has the slowest and most tell-tale abilities in the game… yet I rarely see people dodge it in a group fight…

And Warriors’ Killshot doesn’t seem to be dodged much in a fight either… could it be that we’re not super human enough to look at what direction you’re waving your hand in?

By the way, Mesmer skills aren’t slow in the least.

Your complaint seems to be about the dodge system then and not the mesmer. As for iLeap not being relatively slow, I have to disagree.

The skill is fine. Certain players have difficulty with the mesmer and look for excuses as to why they can’t win. I can’t count the times I’ve hit blurred frenzy too early only to have an opponent walk into it. These are the players who want skills nerfed.

The fact is that a sword mesmer can’t survive long in melee without it. Melee classes have too many gap closers, immobilizations, and stuns. Plus, they can put out too much damage in melee range. Without blurred frenzy, the mesmer’s mainhand sword would become useless because it would never want to be in melee range. First, it wouldn’t have any defense to survive there. Second, it wouldn’t deal any damage to make risking melee worthwhile. If blurred frenzy is nerfed, then every classes melee attacks should be at the same level of the mesmer’s autoattack. Any other argument would be incredulous.

Finally, other classes are not defenseless against it. While comparing blurred frenzy to 100B is a bit ridiculous because blurred frenzy does no where near as much damage, the same counters exist. The initial casting of iLeap is an obvious tell. If you miss that, then you have a second chance to avoid it by keeping your distance from the clone for 5 seconds (or kill it in one hit and then dodge roll away or vice versa). Finally, if you are immobilized, you can you whatever skills you use to get out of every other class’ immobilization. This is all assuming that the skill even worked, which about 50% of the time it doesn’t. So it is not fair to say that the mesmer’s iLeap+blurred frenzy is uncounterable. You have at least three options to avoid it. And if you can’t, it is not as devastating as 100B or getting insta-gibbed by an invisible thief.

Mesmer’s problem is that they have 4 offhand weapons, but only 2 main hand weapons to pair them with. So they feel that they only have 1 main hand weapon to pair with their off hands.
