Rumor has it that the same designer who brought us the Mordem Invasion is also in charge of the Dro0d and Forge…taboutit.
As it is, this event served as a powerful piece of antimarketing. It makes me and others nervous about the potential quality of HoT. Has A-net downsized to the point where they can no longer design events properly? Does A-net realize that frustrated customers tend not to buy gems and/or expansions? Can A-net find a way to make lemonade out of this lemon?
Suggestion: find a way to fairly and retroactively compensate players for their time and frustration. A-net has had many great in-game events before, and players have been (largely) happy with them. This one just feels like it was done on a rushed time-table and a shoestring budget. The pre-purchase blowback was salved by the addition of a character slot to the packages. The hard feelings around this event could be similarly fixed by a reward of blooms/gear. It seems obvious to me…
As long as we’re crowd sourcing game development (for free)…
1) Each event that a player tags/does the minimum should reward 1 bloom only.
2) Each event location should reward blooms on a sliding scale, up to 5 blooms for each location if done start-to-finish. Players should be incentivized to complete events rather than ride to rewards on the backs of those who do.
3) The end boss/vine at each location should drop a chest with a bloom + champ bag as a reward for those remaining, but only if they contributed past a threshold level.
4) Any player reaching a reasonable threshold of participation (20 minutes or 5 events) should receive a bloom bonus and a reward chest appropriate to character level (equivalent to the chest a world boss drops).
New/lowbie players especially must feel frustrated and abused by this event, as they basically get nothing of value to them. Anything that rewards players for selfishness, that encourages players to ‘not waste time helping or rezzing others’, is counter to the game’s philosophy, and frankly deeply offensive to those of us who came here seeking relief from all the selfish griefers and mindless grinding in other MMOs. Please do better next time!
Here’s a suggestion: design events that at least match the rewards we’d get if we spent the same amount of time farming the Silver Wastes. I’m sure it is still possible to give everyone who participated some form of reward for doing so beyond the paltry blooms we earned.
17 Lv. 80’s (2 of each profession except 3 warrior), with 160 tomes of knowledge ready to make two lv. 80 Revenants on launch day. A serious case of altoholism here.
Got it! The advice boils down to: do the bare minimum to get credit, and let the losers/n00bs who are not in the know do your work for you. That attitude is exactly what made me leave other MMO’s and come to GW2. I’m sure you’re glad that others finish the events so you can get those blooms for yourself. Thanks for the pro tip!
I hope that A-net will announce what, if anything, they plan to do about this event’s abject failure so that I can decide whether to hold on the blooms I have. I’d like to get enough to earn a decent reward so that I don’t feel that all my time has been wasted.
My suggestion would be to :
1) Announce that the event will run again next weekend (or sometime soon).
2) Patch the event so that it’s worthwhile by following some of the suggestions given above.
3) Give everyone who has participated some kind of extra loot/blooms/reward compensation for the time spent.
If no announcement is made, I suppose I’d have to spend the blooms I do have on something, so that they don’t go completely to waste (like all my continue coins and other tokens from past events).
This event simply rewards players who WP/sprint from one event to the next, tagging mobs but not staying to do the ‘real work’ of clearing the event. They get much larger rewards by being kitten -bags than by cooperating in a group. Even so, the rewards are ridiculously small for the time/effort invested. I feel like I’ve wasted hours doing this mindless and pointless event. NOT happy.
Everyone should have the right to play as they wish so long as it remains within the laws of the game. If they’re minding their own business and not queuing your home map then leaving them alone is the best thing to do. If however they’re toxic, condescending, abusive or they queue the home map. There are certain things you can do…. cough treb cows from spawn cough
Why, oh why did I leave treb mastery for last? Brilliant idea!
Disrupting what players from another server are trying to do is the whole point of WvW, GvG ‘rules’ notwithstanding. I am sick and tired of my own BL running a queue, with over half of it in enemy hands. When I finally get in, it’s just guild blobs standing around, doing nothing. Those guilds are recent transfers from T2 down to T3. I’m not ‘crying about it’ (thanks for the trolling insults which prove my point about how obnoxious some GvG people are!) but I will play the way I want…
(edited by Daddar.5971)
Exactly, yes I’m in T3. I suppose I’ll have to start trolling them or bringing a large force to teach them that they don’t own the map. Still, it isn’t working as intended, and it won’t be as much fun as WvW should/used to be.
On my server, one or more borderland maps feature large guilds monopolizing the center of the map for “Guild vs. Guild Battles”. Most of the time, these large guilds are standing around in their separate zergs with no combat going on at all. Anyone ‘interrupting’ is sworn at and abused by the ‘friendly’ guild or piled on by the ‘enemy’ guild, which swarms and kills the ‘interrupter’ (while the ‘friendly’ guild laughs and does nothing) and then goes back to standing around. If you are not in one of these guilds you are told to go to a different map.
Here’s hoping that guild halls will put an end to this, but since Obsidian Sanctum was supposed to do that I won’t hold my breath. I used to like WvW, but this is ruining it for me. It’s obnoxious at best.
How about a 0.00000001% for bunny ears to drop from Black Lion Chests? Wouldn’t that be fun?! -_-
GW2: Attack of the Clones
Yes, this would solve it for me: if each outfit was in 6 separate pieces so they could be applied to one or several armor pieces of the character, I’d buy [b]all[/] of the outfits. Not holding my breath, obviously. Money talks, and if people are happy buying outfits, that’s what A-Net will sell.
I will gladly pay for new armor skins that can be mixed/matched. Outfits are vanilla, and boring. I know they are cheaper and easier for designers to produce (as armor has multiple pieces, etc). If you agree with the need for more armor sets, please add your voice. Maybe we can get A-Net to change their decision to only offer outfits going forward.
Think of it like a theme park. One of my favorites had lots of rides to go on for the price of admission. One year, they added a water park. They offered two pricing options: the same price as before for the regular park, and double the price if you wanted the water park admission included. What do you think they would have said if I complained that “it’s not fair that the water slides are locked behind a paywall!!1!” ? I’m sure they would be tempted to laugh in my face. OP, your complaint is beyond ridiculous.
It seems clear to me that A-net assumes that players will have 1-3 characters or so. For those of us with significantly more (17 lv. 80’s for me, 2 of each profession) this will be a huge PITA. At least A-net could make the unlocks account-wide. If a player has 3 warriors (as I do) then only 1 warrior character would need to unlock the specialization….
I like it salty! Sparkly, glittery salt rainbows for everyone!!1!
It’s time for glitter and rainbows, and stars glitter in space.
I want glitter and rainbows on my Chronoprancer toolbar.
Also, if I go to the trouble to get and equip a legendary or ascended weapon, that weapon is ONLY usable on the elite-spec build. If I run different builds in PvE, WvW and dungeons, then the elite-locked weapon is dead weight when I change off the elite spec. That’s a big disincentive to even trying the elite spec.
I’d suggest that when a character has the elite spec line fully unlocked, then the elite weapon should become usable on all specs for that character.
It was worth it to me to buy the Ultimate Edition. I needed the two slots for my 2 revenants, because my other 17 slots are occupied by level 80’s. Confessions of an Altoholic
But Mommy, I don’ wanna wait… I WANT EVERYTHING NOW NOW NOW!!! Also, I demand a free pony mount.
I have 2 level 80’s of each class, except warrior. I have 3 warriors. I have all these toons so I can have diverse builds w/o much time wasted. Whenever I am too tired to play a class that requires a lot of skill and timing, I just hop on one of my warriors for some nice easy-mode relaxation. The berserker will make this even easier. GG A-net!
I played beta as well, and got no email. Not that I WANT to fill out a survey… I’d be willing to do it to improve the design.
Basic questions:
1. How many hero points will a character need to unlock a full elite specialization trait line?
2. How many hero points will be required to unlock each new utility, healing and elite skill?
Please provide a reference with your answer to avoid confusion or second-guessing.
Looks like it’s fixed now!
Channeling delay + cool-down + energy cost on attack skills makes them, and the class almost useless. Utility, healing and elite skills all cost energy, so we are left deciding whether to use attacks or utility skills most of the time. Please remove energy cost from weapon skills (and adjust their power as necessary for balance).
As it is, I have characters of every class, and can’t see myself choosing to play Revenant over any of them. It’s simply to frustrating to have to constantly debate between using utility skills or attacks.
I’m sure they’ll announce these when they have the designs finished.
I was a rage-monkey myself right up until A-Net fixed its mistake. Once it did, I immediately pre-purchased the Ultimate Edition. 10 years of great GW offerings is enough to give me confidence for the future. No-one HAS to pre-purchase, but I think the free slot is fair payment to me for doing so. Call it ‘interest’ on the ‘loan’ I’m giving A-Net by pre-purchasing.
Try logging out of the game and then log back in. I’ve read that this fixes things.
This community can never be pleased.
The pre-order crap with gaming companies is a scam. Sorry, but it’s true. So yeah, I’m not pleased.
Well, that’s an easy fix. Go buy a game that pleases you! No one is forcing you to pre-purchase. I admit it’s a bit of a risk, but I’m willing to take it. You’re not, and that’s fine with me.
I am quite happy with my pre-purchase in this case. Yes, it’s marketing and economics. The character slot is ‘interest’ on the money I’m lending A-Net upfront, and I know that. If you don’t trust A-Net enough to give them a loan, fine. But then you can’t complain that they didn’t pay you interest, can you?
I am quite happy with my pre-purchase in this case, thankyouverymuch! Yes, it’s marketing. The character slot is ‘interest’ on the money I’m lending A-Net upfront, and I know that. I’m quite happy with how this turned out, and I was very vocal until today.
I’m surprised anyone would delete a character to make room for one that can’t even be created for 3-5 months… but, whatever.
I went from being angry and resentful to a satisfied customer once again. The new-and-improved Ultimate Edition suits my needs perfectly. Thanks A-net!
Exactly why I just bought the Ultimate Edition. but then, I’m an admitted altoholic.
I’d use a suicide skill in WvW if I could take a whole zerg-ball down with me …evil grin!
I have 2 lv. 80 Necros. I’m going to wait and see what works. If it really is that bad for Necros, I’m sure they’ll apply an adjustment pretty quickly.
Not at all, BolkovonHarnfeldt. A-Net had good intentions, but horribly mishandled the rollout. they quickly fixed their mistake, and they should be recognized for that. Whether you spend the money is up to you, but I now feel that the price they’re asking is fair. I just paid it.
How do you know they had good intentions
It’s good for you that you think the price is fair, I don’t.
I don’t think the current deal is fair, because it transfers all the risk of the rollout from the company (who has to recuperate their investments they made beforehand) to the customer (who not only buys something unseen but also hands out free credit in the process.
It’s your money, and I won’t try to convince you to trust A-Net or expect a good value for it. 10 years of the GW franchise delivering good value is enough for me. I’m in, but I won’t criticize you for waiting or not buying it at all.
Still quite a bit upset. here is a few reasons why:
1. Anyone who just recently bought a deluxe edition or higher now has a less of a value for their money. Expecting plenty of others to agree with this. Can’t you guys just admit ya gone and goofed the different packages?Actually those who buy a Deluxe Edition or higher will have TWO additional characters slots added to their account instead of just one now.
Please read my post.
2 isn’t really a great thing. Especially when only 1 class is coming out.Oh, cut the carping. Be glad ANet did something, instead of whining about how it wasn’t exactly what you wanted. Some people will find fault in anything, I swear.
Are you kidding me? I just paid 100$ and one of the defining features was “Additional character slot”. Now I get another, redundant one? For what? That hidden second profession they haven’t revealed yet? As i said in my original post, I’m super glad they did this, I am. But I think it could be done BETTER with a benefit to everyone, not just to the 50$ pack which I outline in my original post so go read that then come use poor quotes and QQ on me more.
Contact customer service. I’m sure they’ll be glad to downgrade your edition to basic and refund the difference. Somehow, I’m betting you won’t though.
I can see why some people want to see more before buying. That’s fine. But the whole ‘unfairness’ thing has been (completely!) fixed. Good enough for me. I’m going to trust A-Net on this. Just pre-purchased, and happily.

I’m having a moment of weakness too! Just bought the Ultimate Edition after being angry the whole last week. I’m actually very excited now!
A-Net needs to pay their employees (and investors) in USD, not in-game gold. Sorry, but real money is the only thing that’ll get you HoT.
This was an incredibly fast, and incredibly wise response by A-Net. I’m 110% satisfied! But, if you feel the need to continue complaining, I feel sorry for you… Can’t you see you’ve won?
Yes. Confirmed.
Upgrade for sure. Ultimate Edition. Already done. And I was as mad as a rabid kitten about the initial offering. I’m happy as can be, now!
