What do you mean it doesn’t work? Getting the JP rewards without doing the JP is like getting the laurels without doing the daily.

Because there is absolutely no possible way to get Laurels without doing the work. That is a straw man argument.

thats an arguement for no portals in JP
there should be absolutely no possible way to get JP chests without doing the work (imo that also includes ‘planting’ an alt at a JP and ‘harvesting’ it daily)…

then there shouldnt be any way to skip dungeon content either, no more speed runs, no more skipping optional bosses anything.

On the pets thing, Mesmers and Necros have a similar issue. It is not as bad, but still not good. In a lot of dungeons or just bosses with AOE, my Phantasm Mesmer and Minion Master necro both use minions to do more DPS. Yet in most cases they are dead just a few seconds later. They can be recast in just a short time, however with a lot of AOE I tend not too bother. Perfering to use a Well build Necro in those cases. It sucks for AI, pets and minions in this game currently.

Also AOE seems to be the answer to large scale content, so expect more in my opinion. Though fights like Laidri and dungeons it needs to be more balanced.

yes but they dont account for a large portion of your regular DPS like the rangers pet does. the mesmers mirrors and illusions are meant to die rather quickly.

the minions though need some work, as they arent supposed to die quickly.

Why do we have 'town clothes'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

Part of the problem with the town clothes implementation is that the game doesn’t automatically switch you to town clothes when you enter a freaking town – it doesn’t even give you the setting option. It certainly is a strange design choice. Why include town clothes at all when no one will ever see them?

they could be the first step to a costume type system like in guild wars 1. at the moment you cant do anything in them but costume brawl, but later they might let you wear them over your armor in PVE and WvW, no PVP or SPVP however

This is a Charr from GW1:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Charr_ritualist.jpg

Part of my issue with GW2’s Charr is down to the odd choices in physiology and in-game appearance that have been made for them… the devs seem to have went backwards and taken the oldest Charr models (Prophecies-era Charr mobs), but that wasn’t enough… Charr in GW1 were tall, yes, but they also had strong posture, an air of feline grace and intelligence to them…

However the Charr in GW2 are even more hunched than their most basic predecessors; their arms dangle awkwardly from their lumpy refrigerator torsos, with a neck that arcs and bulges out over their heads unlike any known animal (tigers do not hunch like this). They squint to the point where their eyes are often indistinguishable pinpricks. Their heads jut out miles from their shoulders and they almost constantly look like they’re grinning about something. There’s no sense of dignity or menace at all really. I don’t fear or respect these beasts; I almost pity them. They’re downright QT pies.

So for me part of where the ball was dropped on the Charr comes down to just my distaste for their in-game models and animations, but that’s not all: the flavor and the lore of the species itself feels like it’s being pulled in three different directions, maybe a consequence of the game’s very broad target market. Are they goofy, are they threatening, are they mysterious or are they simple-minded? Are they wacky Starship Troopers (ala the whole Maverick buddy warband SeeD school sort of thing) or are they a sober and serious people with deep family ties? When it comes to the subject of Ascalon the Charr characters don’t react with roiling rage, or prejudice or feelings of regret; they’re just snarky and flippant. If they don’t treat the matter seriously then why should I? It’s not endearing, it’s just an opportunity for interesting writing wasted. Other instances where the subject material is taken as a joke by the writers include the Charr’s history (renouncing the false gods etc.), the total lack of introspection from the species about their fledgling, schizophrenic civilization (industrious and pensive on the one hand, barbaric and war-hungry on the other).

To get another sense of what could’ve been, take a look at the concept art that loads when you enter Fireheart Rise. The Charr models there look slender, graceful, somehow ferocious yet civilized, carrying this universal sense of hope, wonder and emotion. It’s perfect. (I also hold that the Grove’s concept art far outshines the in-game Sylvari models).

er what about pyre? http://images.wikia.com/gw/images/8/88/Pyre_Fierceshot_Armor_Charr_Front.jpg

pyre was what got me wanting to play a charr though…i really didnt like the other models they looked to humanish for me to imagine them being a beast race, maybe some experiment gone wrong. hell they could be all 3 from what i have noticed, the blood legion are the threatening ones, the iron legion are serious and ash legion is more humorous than the others. you also need to remember that the charr in GW1 where forced out of their homeland, had their army destroyed at orr, and then where reforged under the flame legion and the new gods, only to have that turn out to not work as well, and finally in gw2 they get there homeland back and are strong once again. they dont need to be war hungry any more, they got the one thing they truly wanted back. and with the threat of the ghosts they cant just go around making war on everyone.

The same with GW2’s story. I don’t need to be called “The Slayer” every minute. I don’t need someone who is supposedly a super heroine in the game’s lore to tell me how much I’ve taught her after she goes off throwing a fit over petty problems. I don’t believe that 40+ ships that can overwhelm a fortress brimming with elite soldiers, stone walls and war machines, by launching near endless waves of undead somehow can’t stomp all over Lion’s Arch because we found the power of friendship.

buu..buuu.but the power of friendship can overwhelm anything! what i want to know is why this fortress doesnt have a kittening gate on the beach to stop crap from getting in!

Anet needs to realize that killing off characters that people like is a bad thing when its done so soon…. Tibalt is a perfect example! hes awesome, and funny….and they kill him off way to quickly! why? what was the reason for that? its not needed at all. the GW1 storyline had its moments at least. in Cantha your mentor dies to make Shiro vulnerable. in Tyria, Prince Rurik dies fleeing Ascalon with his people and then comes back as a undead slave. where are those elements? there is no surprise to the story line in this game. i fully expected that almost every single person in the story would die.

You didn’t earn anything in GW2. Not a single thing. You only got your fancy fellblade because you had HOM points. And the fact that you answered your own question where people had to spend hours and hours in GW2, while GW1 users get a free pass to unique content that belongs to GW2 already answers it.

We spent effort and time to get the Lord Taeres’s shadow sword model and effects. GW1 players did not spend time in GW2 and demand to get the same effects of the weapon in GW2?

If you want that particular shadow effect from the Lord Taeres’s sword, go out to GW2 Tyria, play the content, and get that effect either through killing champion mobs or buying it with gold.

1. i dont want Lord Taeres sword, that purple glow crap on it ruins it for me.

2. i do play the content quite a bit actually.

3. as i stated several times, dont give us the shadow sword effect but rather give us the one in the first game!

5. you are right we didnt play guild wars 2 to get the fellblade we didnt have to spend a single moment in the game, instead arenanet decided to give a gift to those who played guild wars loyally for the past 7 years. and the gift they gave us looks nothing like what was promised. so if anything you are upset that we got a couple free “skins” that dont do anything other than appearance for “nothing”….oh wait we still didnt get if for “nothing” now did we! and saying that we got it for “nothing” is just silly.

6. we spent a crap ton of effort and time to unlock those HoM points, more time than most people have even put into this game yet.

You spent time to rightfully get an item that’s in GW1, not GW2. Did you spend XX hours or XX gold to get it in GW2? Nope. So why should you get an effect where users have to spend a copious amount of time in GW2 to get Lord Taeres’s shadow sword effects?

no i spent time to get an item that is in guild wars 2 that should have looked like the one in guild wars 1 to begin with.

the few people i have seen with lord Taeres shadow sword want the sword because its a one handed fellblade, you know how the fellblade should have been in the first place. not because its a rare sword or hard to get, they want it because the fellblade in game looks like crap.

If this topic had been out since the start of the game, it would have been a valid request and not because of some jealousy towards the new shiny in-game weapon. If it had been inadequate in the first place then you should have came into the forums to “demand” for it like what you’re doing right now.

Why is it that a new shiny weapon that requires effort in GW2 (over 25 hours unless it’s RNG luck) is awarded to a GW1 player where he didn’t need to spend effort and time in GW2?

If it’s not enough with the achievement points, the titles, and the fiery dragon sword, you demand more shiny? I’m not sure why playing 7 years in GW1 should net you some form of respect in GW2 or entitlement of a shiny new effect, when they are two completely different games.

because as the post above me says they got ignored at the start when the game came out, and as new people started posting and demanding new things people had other things to worry about

I completely disapprove of this topic.

we dont want the same weapon, we just want the shadow cloud effect added to the existing weapon. so it looks much more like the one from GW1.

And how does that relate to the Charr and Asura? The Charr who invented Fire Arms and are 100% at home with all things mechanical. Do you really think an Iron Legion Ranger wouldn’t be into guns, just because he has access to nature magic?

The Asura are all about all things science and magic. They should have laser rifles, let alone the standard flintlock type. Guns don’t interfere in any way with someones attunement to nature. Simply put Rangers are hunters, and every hunter in the game uses a rifle, so it should be available to Rangers.

The only legitimate argument against rifles for a Ranger is the question of what they would do that would set them sufficiently apart from Longbow, or Warrior.

honestly a ranger with rifle would be cool but i dont think its going to happen.

i could think of something for the ranger with a gun
skill 1 hunters shot, strikes a weak point making target vulnerable
skill 2 poison shot, inflicts poison for XX duration
skill 3 some sort of area attack sortof like barrage
skill 4 snipers shot, hits the target in the head stunning them
skill 5 again not sure.

it would be a condition type weapon mainly, but i think it would work.

But in my opinion they should give the Ranger a rifle. Why the hell does a Ranger, a Hunter of the Wild, have no clue how to use a rifle? Give him that, with 1500 Range with the Traits in a perfect scenario my Norn can be a Sniper.

the ranger as defined as being one with nature…the ranger would basically get rid of that i think, although i do agree they should have some sort of longer ranged weapon. how are guns in this game but not crossbows?

you could simply ask for volunteers to voice characters! id voice act for free if given the chance! im sure others would as well!

Voice actors are unionized, and union rules make this almost impossible for a non-indie developer to do.

oh well thats stupid then!

It’s not just a general “they’re unionized” that’s the problem, it’s the specifics of their union rules that’s going to cause problems. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe voice actors have to be paid a minimum of about $800 for a four hour session and an addition $250ish for each additional voice after the third. This, along with the quick release schedule of Living Story content, means they A. can’t justify paying ten voice actors $800/each (it’s going to be much more for established voice actors) to come in for a few lines of dialogue and B. can’t let content pile up before bringing in the voice actors to knock out a bunch of work all at once.

would that also apply to volunteers? i mean if you are by yourself volunteering to take time out of your own schedule to come down and voice a character, wouldnt that be our choice as a volunteer? you as a volunteer are aware that you wont be paid

no i think they will add new weapon types to each class instead
warrior would get the great axe and a melee spear
rangers would get a throwing spear, recurve and hornbow.
engineers would get an actual sniper rifle
necromancers would get scythes
elementilists could be given one or two new elements(darkness and light)
mesmers would get the rapier. i do suppose they could be given the throwing spear and the great axe as well
guardians would get the throwing spear and the great axe
thiefs…im honestly not sure about here…i suppose some sort of claw type weapon or something like that

aw but it isnt the same is it? my warrior can have up to 4 different items in the two weapon sets therefore clearing out 4 inventory slots. my engineer can only have a max of 2 items sitting on my character while the rest of my items have to sit in my inventory. so two weapon sets should be added so that all classes have the same number of equipable weapons, but the engineer and possibly the elementalist should only be able to swap weapons outside of combat

bring back the ritualist and the dervish or something close to it, as well as give some of the classes throwing spears. because honestly very few people fight under water enough to make the underwater legendary weapons worth the time it takes to get them.

I don’t have a problem with the weapon system as it currently is. I don’t necessarily care for the skill system that Guild Wars 1 had. That said, having the ability to swap out weapon skills for different skills, as long as it is restricted by slot and not a full on mix and match, would be a nice addition to the game. I think it would also go a long way toward appeasing the GW1 players who really liked that, as well as the MMO players who were looking for a more robust system in general.

I think the search for the weapon master type people at level 80 for special and flashy skills would give level 80’s something more to do and give them the feeling that they are still progressing after level 80.

This is only true if they made the trainers like the Guild Bounty Hunters who wander around their specific zone. Incidentally I think that would be a really great idea. I would also like to have to fight them with the chosen weapon in order to even get them to offer.

i like this idea, so long as it isnt attached to a guild mission or something like that though.
