is happening to my entire household out in queensdale. im hopeing there arent other chests that are doing it as well
I think Dante was referring to the pet being a “choice” in GW1. You had to build for pet use to make it a viable option (but you are correct that until later in GW1 life, it really wasn’t).
No doubt the issue here is that the Ranger class is defined by having a pet as a secondary weapon (CAN be speced for a primary one), but that weapon can be removed from play by specific content mechanics. I’ve never seen where ANet even acknowledges this as an issue (tho, I’ve not actively searched for it…Ranger isn’t one of my favorite classes), so I’m not sure whether any kind of “fix” is even being looked at.
I get the OPs frustration, but the sarcasm and extreme exaggeration being presented by the thread’s title is not likely to garner Dev support for this cause.
thats exactly what i was referring to. in guild wars 1 the ranger could optionally build to make the ranger a viable companion, if the player didnt want the pet they could build to something else.
Why have levels anyway? EQN is getting rid of them. I dont want something like this level locked. because it forces people to speed level to endgame just to unlock this feature. if needed to speed level to unlock this, why have levels if I cant enjoy them?
You would IDEALLY be able to unlock more skills as you level up. This helps give the player a feeling of progression. If you got it all at once, as you did all your default skills to your weapons, then you’d be in the same boat of having all the same skills from level 1 (so to say). Then, again IDEALLY, you’d be able to hunt down weapon masters at level 80 for an extra skill, maybe two, per weapon. This way you still have something to progress your character with at level 80 besides cosmetics and slight gear improvements. As it stands, when you hit level 80, nothing new really becomes available to you to make it meaningful. At least not that I can remember.
the only thing that gets unlocked is the arah dungeon for explorable mode.
make it so that each jumping puzzle has one at the end…it would get me to do them, anything to get more variety thats for sure
Or maybe new jumping puzzles that are a part of the difficulty to getting to these masters?
hmm no i wouldnt think so, i mean there arent many places where new jumping puzzles can be added unless they added new areas

or make it so banners cant be picked up except by the people in the persons party or the person who dropped them! boom problem solved!
i wont even try it as my ranger, the pet just sucks away all my damage when its dead. i mean honestly why the hell isnt the pet like it was in gw1. it worked didnt it?
Please god no don’t let people dye weapons. If you ever do this, please make it restrictive.
Example:
-metal parts can be colored metal colors, like various gray tones, gold, dark steel, etc.
-wood parts can be colored wood colors, like mahogany, yew, oak, etc.
-leather parts can be colored various leathery colors. As soon as I see pink greatswords I am quitting.
in guild war 1 it only dyed certain parts, it should be the same way here
i have multiple dyes across multiple characters, and i have spent about 50 gold for dyes on 9 characters. i want them account bound i dont care about the money or ever getting it back.
yes please, i was so excited to start the game with the fellblade skin…and now i barely use it because it doesnt look the same as the one in gw1
i would like an invite, today is my last day to finish it!
i really hope so!
Rangers seriously need to be looked over. I was kicked out of an AC story group yesterday…for what other reason? For being a ranger. The funny part is my ranger is level 71, but everyone else in the group was level 35 and 36. Rangers just don’t have the dps or support to make them needed in any group and are incomparable with other classes.
it has gotten so bad on my server that i can hardly find a group willing to take rangers into dungeons.
Fergussons crossing takes about an hour as well, but then it always has
and the last time i did it, the champions respawned way to fast for players to allow the golems time to get to the dragons.
i bought guild wars 2 hoping it would be at least a resemblance of guild wars 1 i wasn’t disappointed when it first came out that is…
there needs to be end game content that requires time to do, in guild wars 1 i spent hours even days playing to get a voltaic spear, tormented weapon, as well as several armor skins.
the dungeons in this game need reworking, they are far to easy to speed farm. in guild wars 1 the farming groups could often fail if the assassin, ele, or warrior was bad. there is not a point to fighting the mobs as they all drop horrible loot or nothing at all. the bosses are far to easy to kill “spam F to win”. in guild wars 1 the harder dungeons took coordination and a lot of planning to do efficiently as well as time, it should be that way here.
each named boss in guild wars 1 had a unique item that it dropped, in guild wars 2 the champion events around the world(kill the champion skale before it leaves as an example) should have the possibility of dropping a unique item. this would get people out in the world and give them something to do. guild wars 1 used to host design a weapon contests, these should be brought back.
the temporary content is just silly, honestly i was hoping that by the end of the first year guild wars 2 would have an expansion out with a new race as well as new weapon types added. where are some new skills? we should have many many new skills by now! several of the bosses should also have the chance to give the player a new skill.
there needs to be changes to the personal story, its boring and uninspiring. every person they introduce dies far to quickly(the order mentors, + several people later on). there is no connection to the people. in the original guild wars when the killed off rurik i was kitten ed off, i didnt feel that connection with any of the characters here. i was even more upset when the lich brought rurik back as his slave. see where im going here? the players need to feel some connection with people as well as the players character in the personal story, otherwise it should just be renamed to “the story” not “Personal story”
give us throwing spears back
I seeing as how no one has these yet it’s just a matter of time =D! I’m thinking Elona….
it should have been in from the start….same with the scythe, its like the completely forgot that people travel and will bring the skills with them!
that is never going to happen, the ranger will forever be stuck to using only certain builds forever in this game….
i played the ranger in guild wars 1 and i hate the ranger in guild wars 2 compared.
Ranger in gw1 was ‘rupt’ or ‘gtfo’. I had fun with a thumper build I made there but yeah… gw2 ranger alot more fun, i think…
However, I would like to see PvP and PvE using their own set of skills just like gw1 did.
i wouldnt know…i didnt do pvp in GW1, only pve and then only with my family and friends or mainly by myself…even hard mode i did mainly by myself. dungeons i took my ele or perma sin so im not going to go there
Hey, don’t let this thread die. I’m holding onto the vague hope a few Anet devs have ranger primary. Btw, while the melee ranger does work, you need to face that a dodgy ranger is like a thief wanna be. I am using it now, but I gotta say that I could be using my thief doing the same thing more effectively. Rangers were meant to be an adaptive class, but to take the range from the ranger and then argue that it wasn’t supposed to be it’s primary role seems a little dumb. I don’t want my to keep rolling with the punches I want to hit back and get a class that has more than a very few specific builds that only work in specific circumstances. I want ANet to let the ranger succeed like the other classes can.
Also, I don’t play my main (a ranger) in WvW anymore. I play my warrior and I gank rangers easy kills.
that is never going to happen, the ranger will forever be stuck to using only certain builds forever in this game….

didnt charr used to yell with the racial battle cry skill
“the charr need no gods!”
if so…that one

No. The arrow builds up momentum as it flies through the air, so a hit from 10 yards might penetrate the skin, whereas a hit from 30 yards is likely to pass through the body (assuming the arrow doesn’t hit a bone or become lodged in the chest cavity). It is really just simple physics.
aw okay, thought it might work the opposite…given that projectiles slow down as they travel further. but eh, i really am not good with science…
either way i think it should be removed or at least lessened, in general PvE i have noticed that everything ignores my pet and comes right for my….basically making the longbow worthless, and the shortbow a darn good weapon
Mesmer Greatsword has the same mechanic. It’s meant as an abstraction for how Longbows are meant for long distance and therefore awkward at close range, and I sort of like it.
I’m not raining on your parade, your post was well written and well thought out, just trying to be informative.
wouldnt a longbow do more damage at close range than at far range? i mean to me it seems that the wound would be more gruesome the closer the target is, plus you will be more accurate the closer a target is..therefore allowing easier targeting of weakpoints(the eyes, crotch, shoulders, knees etc)?
holy crap, this list has by far been the most well thought idea to fix rangers in awhile!
hopefully Anet sees this and takes these into consideration.
give us throwing spears back
Seriously people, the ones who defend this nonesense, do you really thik it is fair to someone regen to all your damage and other people damage and achieve inmortality unless 4 people make a focus on this person?, it is not, in no game achieving inmortality its fair, period.
our damage sucks balls, sorry dude but the one thing we can do well is heal.
the second one of your suggestions would probably be the best one to pick, frankly i havent touched the personal story on any of my alts….unless im looking to level outside of exploring.
everyone has been telling ArenaNet that the one sized fits all mentality doesnt work.
i don’t know. i turned off depth blur and kept it off.
aw alright makes sense
so what is the strongest trend so far?
depth blur has been funky lately. i noticed the same thing in timberline falls yesterday
was it also in certain areas only?
that would the hall of monuments, Gnarled walking stick.
its only available to people who played and linked there account to guild wars 1
you have Depth Blur on where you normally have it off. that’s my assumption. give it a go with Depth Blur unchecked
aw that seems to have worked, thank you!
here is what it looks like normally
this started with the last patch, i havent had any problems with my settings as they are currently set up ever. the game get very blurry in certain areas, as soon as i leave the game goes back to normal.
some more images of it being weird

i would love to see
1. pet skins(rainbow phoenix)
2. costumes(not town clothing which i will never use)
3. weapons from gw1(emerald blade, amethyst shield, working voltaic spear, etc etc)
ofc it didnt destroy the immersion in GW1 because in GW1 that were realistic armor costumes
and not some mad king costume or a witch costume…
there was a bloody suit, and a wedding dress for kittens sake!
No matter what attacks me I always fight them roughly the same way based on the weapon I have at the moment and the distance the person is from me.
Then you are not a very good player.
There isn’t much more to say than that.
In the original Guild Wars, costumes (the better designed version of town clothes) couldn’t be worn in PvP either.
simple, make them PvE only
im gonna support this! i bought literally all the costumes in guild wars 1, and each of my many toons had a different outfit. i bought a grand total of 1 so far, and i havent used it since i got it because i cant use it in combat.
1) It would destroy the immersion
2) It would hide very important information
it didnt destroy immersion in guild wars 1 when i ran around in my jade empire costume, white mantle costume, or shining blade costume.
i want to wear my mad king costume in combat like i could in guild wars 1, i am never in town long enough and almost always forget that i even bought the thing because i never use it.
i rolled a ranger because i wanted to shoot the living hell out of people with my bows, not beat them to death with a sword. i dont care if i can do other things with my toon. the ranger was advertised as being the best class at range being unparalleled with the bow. it isnt however, the rangers bows suck kitten damage wise because of the pet. i should have rolled a warrior so i can do damage at range, because as this games AI is, everything closes with you as quickly as possible. which basically makes the longbow useless….who thought it would be a great idea to make the longbow do less damage the closer a enemy gets?
here is a more recent picture of the same elementalist in cultural armor
I disagree with the blanket nerf to pet damage for Rangers.
I still dislike that there is not enough separation between PvP balance and PvE balance.
I dislike that the idea of balance is to nerf to the lowest rung on the pole rather than picking a baseline of a working build and bringing the rest of the builds up to par.
this..so much this!
And they need to play more than sPvP.
oh yes as well that as well!
no they dont play the game very much anymore…if they did…they wouldnt have nerfed rangers as much..
honestly they need a developer for playing every class in the game, and not just learning one build either, they need to use every single weapon, trait, skill, elite etc etc…and then and only then decide what needs to be fixed!
im not sure i remember this right or not…but wasnt there supposed to be a class like the ranger that didnt have a pet? it would have used a spear, shortbow, longbow, sword, greatsword, torch?
if so…add the spear to the ranger make it 1100 range, and have it do more damage the closer the enemy gets. get rid of the longbows stupid auto attack that does less damage the closer the enemy gets….and boom the longbow is viable as a weapon, the ranger has a ranged weapon for when enemy’s get super close(which given the current AI in the game…)
i dont know if thats a super fix…but i think it could help
the bloody rainbow phoenix, as well as the following; basilisk, tropical bird, rabbit(Jack-a-lope) holiday pets(jingle moa, jingle bear etc) a small dragon.
the ranger was what brought me into this game….i hope it wont be the thing that takes me out of it as well…
welp ill post mine as well, sorry for the image size…using it as a wallpaper
the pets should grow in size as the character levels, by the time you are level 80…your pet should be a full size one.
I agree with this completely.
As much as it’s nice to be able to switch pets freely I do miss the levelling and evolution mechanics from GW1, and the fact that pets grew as they levelled up was an important part of that.
Of course it should stay within the realm of realistic sizes for the animals in question, so it wouldn’t be a huge change, but it would still be nice to see them get bigger as they ‘grow up’.
yes of course, the max size would be what the regular ones look like.
i really think they need to bring back the phoenix and the rainbow phoenix, i worked my kitten off for that rainbow phoenix! why was it not added in?
most of the animals currently in game should be tameable, the gryphon needs to happen soon though wanted one forever!
Anybody notice how the Charr on dragon bash the armor is adjusted for them….
Armor has hole for the tail and the leather curves on top of the tail not thru it.
i wont touch dragon arena…so pics please!
