How rude OP. Just how rude. To someone who is new to MMOS this game can be overwhelming, i know i invited a few people who NEVER touched a MMO in their lifes before, they had no idea what to do, some still dont, and this was after the NPE.

So shut up and take your rudeness elsewhere please, and get off your high horse. Others have said it and ill say it again, Just because YOU dont have a problem playing MMOs doesnt mean that others dont.

Give it a rest.

There are people including myself that have gotten hardly any as drops since the launch of this game.

I have gotten exactly 1 yes that is right 1.

I have played this game since it was in beta.

RNG was favoring you now it is just acting like it does for everyone else mostly. Deal with it.

Your rage is irrelevant. Your friends are just as small a subset of data as my data is yet what your is valid?

I hardly get crap for drops in this game and if that is the reason you play this game it has been like this from day one. The RNG is just a poor excuse of a lazy company, like most of their content.

I call bullkitten

I dont. Up until the introduction of the silver wastes my drop rate was exactly the same after 2 years of playing. 1 exotic drop, And not even a good one, it was serpent stone. Every other exotic i had to buy with gold and dungeon tokens.

then silverwastes came, and i got 2 bonnettis rapiers(when they where worth 40 gold) 1 Truth, Multiple armor pieces, and another bonnettis rapier this week.

It’s not that surprising. Most video games don’t tend to delve into deep psychological or philosophical issues; they usually function more as escapism and empowerment fantasies. This common perception of video games is also why most people don’t think of them as a media channel for serious commentary, because the general idea is that games are still “childish” and “for fun”.

I can think of three games off the top of my head that really affected me emotionally.

Planescape: Torment – This is an old game from the 1990’s, but it’s probably the best of the three on my list. It centers around a single question, “What can change the nature of a man?” It delves into many themes including responsibility, regret and redemption. You can pick it up from GoG.com for fairly cheap, I believe.

Spec Ops: The Line – I can’t really go into details about this game without spoiling it, but let’s just say that this is one of those games where if you complete it once, then replay it again knowing what you know, EVERYTHING in the game changes when you see it in a different light.

Katawa Shoujo – This is a free indie game in the “visual novel” style developed by a group that sprang from 4chan. Don’t let that discourage you though; it’s very well written, and offers a very moving look into the lives and issues grappled with on a daily basis by disabled people. Note that this game does contain sexual content, so that may be a factor in your decision on whether or not to play it. (Could be encouraging or discouraging. )

Sadly this is true, and when games do try and make it matter to the player more often than not they fail because its not done correctly, and in a game like GW2 not doing it correctly just isnt an option, because if you fail the outrage is going to be huge.
Hmm, ill look into those, thank you much! And Well, im sure you can take a guess which way ill be leaning based on me being a furry! xD

I don’t know if i like these rumors. Since the sylvari are a young race, in its childhood so to say, and as it seems without any choice to wether join or deny mordremoth it’s not right to treat them like criminals. However, this may be part of the motivation to finally run down mordremoth.
What i’m really curious about is how they will solve the problem for sylvari players. I have a feeling like the pale tree won’t survive HoT, maybe sacrificing itself or something like that to shut down the dragons influence for her kind. Just an idea. Or do we already have some more specific informations about this?

We do not, this is the OPS speculation idea on what will happen to lions arch, and if the community agree with him or not.

I have to disagree with you over video games not being a good medium for teaching/talking about weighty real life issues. That’s like claiming that books like the Diary of Anne Frank or movies like Schindler’s List are not good ways to teach people about the horrors of the Holocaust. Of course they won’t provide the same experience as going to a Holocaust museum, but they can be powerful and moving experiences in their own right.

It all comes down to whether or not the audience is willing to listen and grasp the lessons that are being imparted. Sometimes they will get it on their own, sometimes they will need guidance or instruction from others. And sometimes they will just not be receptive at all, or even take the wrong lesson away from it altogether.

And im going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that, Its not the same. I have never ever once felt the emotion i have felt in a video game, in ANY video game. than i did from watching Schindler List, or any of the other Holocaust movies ive watched. Can video games? Yes they can, i suppose if done right, im an emotional person for various reasons, but i have never once felt anything like i did when i was watching Schindler’s list in a video game, Movies, literature, and museums yes, but never a video game. Although, this would get me outraged to no end if it was implemented… and then again, i typically dont play story driven games, i split my time between RTS games, wot and GW2…if you do know of any games that may make me change my mind, do PM them to me though

But as you said, this is a MMORPG, you are going to get ALL kinds of players, those that wont feel anything, those that will affect positively and those that affect negatively, and the trolls who will take this as chance to abuse those players who play sylvari, and thats not a good thing, period.

i am not a furry.. just sayin. I play charr cause i like ork\ogre like races…heck id play an ettin if i could. I wouldnt touch charr if they would be something along the lines of “cat girls” like you know em from every other mmo. I like the somewhat clumsy feel of them a lot and it really feels like you navigate a 440 lbs mountain of teeth, claws and muscles arround tyria…and they are sorta steampunk as a bonus what i happen to like a lot. But yea..sylvari prison camps? Heh.. i really dunno why people pull that out of their minds and hence why this is just chuckle worthy

Thats not the point though whether you are a furry or not, People see a charr and instantly think furry. Furrys are a very hated group. Orks and ogres are exempt from the furry hatred, but you get a huge walking cat, and the player behind it is instantly seen as a furry.

mostly players though you get enough obvios racism from ebonhawke and seperatists and actually humans in general if you really wanna search for it. As for players..yea mostly “human purist players” really do hate charr…cant blame em though…ya know.. gw1 and stuff. Not like it bothers me personally too much but its there. Sylvari actually never had this and it amuses me to no end having the topics pop up and people whining about it.

Players do it because dont you know! every single person who plays a charr has to be a furry(like me! im a furry!) but didnt you know that! If you play charr, you are a furry! welcome to the furry crowd! the most hated and despised group on internet, because well we are different.

The racism from ebonhawke and separatists as much as i hate to admit, is kind of ok, the Charr have been attacking the ascalonians for 250+ years, thats a long time to set hatreds in and make prejudices almost a guarantee, but you dont see prison camps now do you? I can understand where you’re coming from, tekfan. (And personally speaking, I would be appalled at any Sylvari-oriented bigotry or “ethnic cleansing” that occurs in HoT.) However, this may also be an excellent way for older generations to teach newer ones the horrors that can come when racial, religious or political hatreds are allowed to go too far. I have faith that ANet will not be portraying such behaviour or attitudes in a positive light, and the story will have our characters trying to prevent such inequities (or worse, massacres) from taking place.

Through video games? The only way that works is to actually go and be in that situation or someplace you can experience that. My brother is 18 now, but when he was in 8th grade the school was doing fund raises for a trip to go to Washington DC. One of the places he went to was the Holocaust museum not exactly sure which one, but by the end of it, every single bully in the school was crying, and they went around telling the kids who they bullied they where sorry when that got back. THAT is the way to teach kids, not through a video game…..

(Yes i read your post and saw you areagainst this, im just pointing out that a video game is going to be a horrible way to do this, as these are the kids who play many many games about Killing human beings of all colors, types, shapes.)

And To the person who got the message about the “Dirty Rotten Cabbage” thing, ive seen similar things posted in map chats across FC, its disgusting and horrible, and the people who do it are the worst kind of troll, and or human being. Especially when some of us write back-stories for our characters and put time into them….

Grind?

Go play Pac Man, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, or pretty much any of the video games that introduced the world to computer gaming. That is what grind is.

If you feel you are being forced to grind in this game.. You are either looking for grind, or just outright doing it wrong. With so much to do, I see this argument as insane.

I grind when I want. I “non-grind” when I want.

Like life, the right mantra may be:

“Play smarter, not harder.”

6300 hours
7 world completions
13 legendaries
3 ascended armor sers
one 30g random drop precursor (rage)

And I keep having fun every day by mixing it up.

You have 13 legendaries? GAH! Gratz. lol I have five, and I’m debating a sixth.

I only have one T.T How do you both have so many!! Like really, please tell me your guyses secrets, cause as it is, im looking at never getting another till the expansion because of how much gold ineed for the pres.

Meanwhile, over in Plains of Ashford, there’s a heart, I forget the name of the NPC, despite having done this twice recently. Sigh. Old age. Anyway, used to be, you fought animals in an arena, and could choose the animals and the level of difficulty. Now, the NPC gives you a gun and sets you off to capture drakes or minotaurs for the arena. This, of course, replaces your skills with the weapon’s… er, skills. Wasn’t that something they were trying to avoid, to avoid newbie confusion? As in, isn’t that the reason we are no longer able to feed the cows or water the corn in Queensdale? Or is there some other reason we now dance for the cows? Anyway, before, that heart was fun and not particularly tedious. Now, however, if there are several people hunting the drakes, well, are we not directly competing with each other for content/resources? Thought that was a design philosophy no-no. Hmm.

I just want to point out, that the heart you speak of, and i know it well as it was one of my favorites to do. You could ALWAYS do the capturing part if you didnt want to fight in the arena, it was slower and took way more time. but it was always there!

Now, I have leveled new characters through the NPE, but being a veteran and having leveled characters before, i can say my play through wasnt much different, you gain levels so much faster now that its not to much of a loss of time to go back to do skill challenges or vistas.

Skills that need revision.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Dante.1763

So with this expansion and with the new profession and new mastery system I see this as a golden opportunity to revisit the multitude of horrible abilities, particularly with our utility/elite skills, and consider a revision for them.

I don’t want to come off as sounding bitter but I am astonished by how some of these abilities even made it to live. Almost as if they were scrambled together at the last minute as fill in skills without even taking into account any form of usability or creativity.

A lot of these are racial skills some are okay and others are just perplexing to me.

For example Avatar of Melandru – Costs 10 skill points and you turn into a tree, and get stability. Really? Who came up with this? Why do I turn into a tree? Because you were too lazy to make this ability, at the very least, look distinctive? So you copy pasted a tree model. Good, nice job.

I think we should make a list of all these inept skills to make it clearer because I am rather surprised that there isn’t more people voicing concerns about this.

To be fair, in GW1 the different Avatar abilities transformed you into well a Avatar of said god, the Avatar of Melandru did in fact turn you into a walking tree in the first game. I wish there where more of the Avatar abilities those, one per god, and what god you chose on creation allowed you to have that ONE avatar.

Inepts skills: ALL Racial elite skills, and if i remember right, almost every single Racial regular skill is bad too.

You caught me pre-edit. I agree, if PvE dueling is implemented I would have no problem with it if it were in arenas in designated areas. I think that is a fair compromise for the people that want to duel in PvE and for the people that don’t want to see dueling be a free for all duel mess in PvE.

I noticed that the OP changed their original post to state that people against PvE dueling don’t want to discuss a solution that both sides can accept. I have seen several examples discussing a compromise in this thread alone and in most other dueling threads. Unfortunately, many of those that want PvE dueling seem to dismiss those ideas and simply refer to the anti-dueling crowd as naysayers .

Quite a few of us(Myself included) Who are against open world dueling have NO problems if it was confined to arenas around the PVE world, GW1 had instanced arenas, i have no problem with this what so ever.

It would be kind of cool actually, i do not however want to be asked to duel while im walking through a city, or doing a heart or map completion out in a map (even with an auto decline system, ive had bad experiences with trolls and kittens).

PVE is supposed to be PVE, not with PVP elements added to it(My opinion, one im very strong on, and wont budge on either). Games that have PKing and open world pvp, or duels are games I stay away from, and if anet ever adds dueling and does it poorly, then i will move on, to what i dont know, but my time with the guild wars universe will come to an end.

But as i said, i have no problems with arenas scattered around the open world, Instanced or other wise. The Bane, The arena out in Plains of Ashford, ANY of the Training ground areas for seraph, wardens, or blood legion soldiers would work well too. there are quite a few areas where arenas could be set up in scattered maps around Tyria that could serve as dueling grounds.

The camera distance increasing in those fights is for situational awareness. With the shorter standard distance, it can be hard to notice everything that’s going on.

Its not so bad for the world bosses ill admit that. but that last LS boss however, ill argue that to the end of the world, that FOV they have set up for that one is horrid and the closer view would be much better. Id like it to be a toggle option, because as it is now, i have to hand my computer off to a friend of mine to do that final boss.

I’m talking about the new ones , that are not out yet , the old ones are a lost cause and yes like every other ele out there I have a Bifrost. Regardless are you honestly telling me you’re happy with the current state of legendaries? anyone who really wants one gets one which is not a rare item.

Every other ele…really? i dont have a bifrost yet, i want one though, and unless someone is going to give me the legend its never going to happen. Now i have the minstrel, so i do have a legendary, but its pre is cheaper and very few players seem to have that one, same with the torch and the horn, you seldom see those.

You are wrong “Anyone who wants one gets one” not true, my dad really wants the rifle, and he wont ever get one because he doesnt do the big gold farms, nor can he do the big world events because his graphics card crashes the game out when to many people get on screen.

“Regardless are you honestly telling me you’re happy with the current state of legendaries?” the ability to straight up buy them, no im not, the ability to buy the precursors though, yes i am.

I disagree with you on the silly legendaries too, i want the pony bow because of how cute it is, i wish they had some more silly legendaries in more categories. but at the same time, dont want more over the top ones like the moot. the pony bow is okay effects wise, and quip is downright funny. i have a hard time raging at someone when they kill me in pvp with quip.

How about this… this might sound crazy but hear me out…

Let the PvE’ers do their thing in PvE….
Let the PvP’ers do their thing in PvP….
Let the WvW’ers do their thing in WvW….

Have alternate ways of obtaining the same prizes, specific to your preferred game mode. PvE’ers should not be forced to PvP… and the other way around.

Nothing, nothing in the game forces PvEer’s to PvP or PvPer’s to PvE if you don’t want to do what is necessary to get World Completion, then don’t, no part of the game will be denied to you because you can’t be bothered to do what everyone else who want wanted World Completion did. There is no part of the game that requires you to tackle and accomplish World Completion no content will be denied you nothing that that you can’t play because you didn’t do what thousands of other players have done. If you want a Legendary then buy one or do what everyone else does and build it including a bit of mapping.

Thats where you are wrong, Map completion forces players of both types PVE and PVP to go into the places they hate if they want a legendary. I hate pvp, i hate it, i did map completion once, in 2.5 years, ive done it once. i wont ever do it again because i have to go into WvW to get it.

But i did do it. It doesnt take long, get into a guild who does wvw, there are many, and they are quite helpful if asked!

Or stop being so condescending to people who dont share your opinion. I dont know that there will be other TRAVEL modes, but Colin did say that there would be OTHER THINGS that use the mastery system, LIKE hang gliding. Im not saying there will be other modes of travel. i AM saying wait till they start going into detail on what the Mastery system, and the other systems that they announced, and didnt go to deep on, Will consists of. Instead of jumping the gun and saying its to small, to early. What we got at PAX was an overview of the MAJOR things, not even the MINOR things that will probably be coming with the expansion. But that doesnt seem to be able to get into your head, as im not the only person whos said that in this thread.

And a qoute from another thread that is relevant to this thread.

Yes, GW2 is subscription free, but so was GW1, and its expansions certainly were not the price of a full game, AND they brought sizable new lands, two new classes, entirely new storylines, etc. .

GW1 technically only had one expansion, Nightfall and Factions were separate games that could be played together and they were, as far as I can remember, full priced games similar to the original game.

Eye of the North was the only full expansion.

1. No new classes. Heart of Thorns has 1 new class.
2. 100 new profession skills (10 per profession). HoT has specialisations which have an unknown number of new skills and traits.
3. 50 new PvE only skills. HoT has the new Mastery system that seems to be similar I guess.
4. 10 new heroes. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t use the Heroes system.
5. 124 new quests and a new storyline. HoT has an unknown amount of new quests and at least 1 storyline.
6. 4 new regions. HoT is said to have 3 (I think I read that anyway, can’t confirm right now)
7. 41 new armour sets. HoT has an unknown number of new sets.

For reference, Eye of the North cost around $40 (£25) on release.

Teeny Tiny Expansion

As much as it’s nice to see the additions of new skins, I think I speak for most when I say I want new ways to play. I want more than just a few utilities, weapons, elites and traits. More ways to play the game with your current toon is a lot more fun than just new areas to explore. In my opinion

You mean like hang gliding? Cause thats a new way to play, and just from the pax announcement theres going to be other things like hang gliding. sooo…

Gonna post this here!

“We talked polearms. No polearms in this expansion. Colin said “We warned the art team what the community would think when they saw the trailer, but they chose to make things the way they did.” It looks like a polearm but it is not. No word if they ever will be."

Sorry, no polearms/land spears in HoT.

. Especially when the biggest piece of evidence that spurred this thread into being is the OP’s inability to differentiate a sword from a spear.

Thats the oddest looking sword ive seen, it even looks like theirs a pole sticking out behind the charrs body… Im not saying it is a spear, but its the oddest looking sword ive ever seen.

I don’t need to be lv80 either to do explorables. It’s fun to get carried isn’kitten

You know, i thought about it for awhile if i should respond or not…Because i really dont care about some random no name over the internet, but in the end, i went ahead.

Its nice to not now how well i play isnt it? you can be as insulting as you want! Whats even better is that im usually the player carrying everyone else! with my bad runes and stuff! For dungeons or for pvp(rarely as i hate pvp on everything but my mesmer), regardless of what class i bring. Yesterday i carried a dungeon group of level 35s through AC exp on a necro, you know…the class nobody wants. Just because someone doesn’t run the expensive runes and sigils doesnt meant they suck, or that they cant carry their own weight, or they cant do anything that people wearing said runes can do. all it takes is a little more effort on the players part. itd be nice if you realized that, otherwise keep on being a kitten . in the meantime ill be playing the game, as i always have, trying my hardest and doing very well.

Except they said specifically that they weren’t introducing it. So…

Like i said in another thread, ill be surprised if they convert them to land, its my one dream from playing with spears in gw1 as they where called(Which more than one of the current in game “water spears” have skins of spears from gw1), that they will be introduced or swapped from water combat to land combat, or both. they arent a new weapon, so its always possible, no matter how slim that possibility.

My brother who cant even play this game right now, because his computers graphics card cant handle it, logs in every two weeks and gets access to the living world…all he does, logs in, clicks the button unlocking it, and then logs out….takes maybe 2 minutes, and hes so busy with school and homework that he has almost no free time for anything.

Seera said nothing rude nor implied any hostility.

Im with Eye on this one, the way its worded is slightly hostile, at some points, but thats it.

Im against Eye however on removing waypoints and adding mounts. Just no, i like the waypoints, i hate mounts however, and hope to never see them in game in anything but a cosmetic thing that cant be used in combat.

Angry Joe Pax Review

These guys just nailed it.

All that stuff had to be there since release.
Like Guild Halls or the maps of the Maguuma Jungle.

Everything else is just illusion of new stuff. It’s not really something creative and new.
You don’t get new weapons like promised they just give you access to already existing weapons you never asked for…. Necro and Great Sword ??? really ????

The regular A-Net way…. lowest amount of creativity and effort but asking for the highest possible return.
And they needed 3 years for that ?? Wowwwww….

Every GW1 Vet is insulted by this.

What’s next 3 maps of Crystal Desert and Scepter and Focus for Norn Warriors ???
Of course with Sand Wulfs and Sand Plants corrupted by some Sand Dragon…….

This is a total let down.

The only highlight was the stellar presentation from the “How to present your product successfully” guide to the weak minded masses who clapped their Thunder Stick to most meaningless phrases thrown to the crowd.

From my view as an educated economist this was brilliant.
My favorite part were the influencing questions like…“We could have made the maps boring and uninteresting to play but do you guys want that” ??
And the masses erupts with a big “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO” followed by clapping Thunder Sticks………………….
An absolutely foreseeable reaction by weak minded.
You could clearly see that Colin didn’t feel good doing it but hey…. it’s marketing.

So yeah…. all in all what i expected. Pointless random stuff not worth of an expansion.

Sorry, Stop speaking for everyone. Im a 7 year gw1 veteran and i am not insulted at all, actually im quite thrilled.

They never promised new weapons, they promised that all classes would be able to use new weapons previously unavailable to them. we are getting that. Necro players have been asking for a greatsword for a long time. Again stop speaking for everyone.

Its to early to speak of if its not worth it or not(Unless you dont play this game anymore and just dont want to come back for any reason). Same with people saying it will be to small. Congrats! you jumped the gun!

My entire guild was/is super excited about this, and i expect that everybody with level 80s will be buying the expansion early, or the day of release, just because they want to see the new maguuma jungle region.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Dante.1763

Yeah. I’m well aware they didnt express anything regarding if Spears could be avaiable for land usage or not, and instead, just said that no pole-arms are being included.

And yeah, as I’ve been saying, its a disappointment that a weapon that its already in the game isnt a thing for land-usage when all logic, reason and expectations point towards such.

Yes indeed, it was the biggest let down anet has ever managed to do in Gw2.. favorite profession (Rit) and favorite weapon (Spear) arent in GW2.

On topic:
I do agree that an entirely new weapon would be a pain to add, as a modder for other games mainly sins of a solar empire, the trouble of adding a single ship, and balancing it, and making sure it works, is enormous, so i can only imagine how much harder it is for a MMORPG…

To the people saying no new weapons will be added, spears may be excluded, MAY, they arent new to the game, they are just previously locked to underwater only…something ive hated from the beginning as i played a paragon in GW1 and was hoping to have spears in GW2..

It has like a 30 min cool-down.

I havent even seen it spawn once…ive tried 5 or 6 different map instances in the last two days, and it hasnt spawned, ive stayed in those maps for an hour at the minimum.

Update..
The follow up event spawned for the third time in the current map im in, but not the firefly one.

Update 2.
Fourth time without the firefly event spawning.

Is this the one where you light lamps using essences that drop off fireflies? I just did that one (and the follow-up) a couple of weeks ago when Caledon Forest Events was one of the dailies, but I haven’t been in that area since. I don’t think much has changed between then and now, though!

Might be, its right outside the gate thought i know that, in the village near the trainers.
I just started playing 3 days ago after a good 2 month break and its refusing to spawn for me, and no one in my guild has seen it either
