Welcome to the club. 80% of GW2’s population has been waiting for you.
Source, please.
Take a look around the forums. 80% of the posts about the Living Story are negative and 80% of the population wants improvement. Based on those forum posts and the negative comments I’m getting from my guild, I can safely say that the Living Story is hated by the majority of the population. My guild has nearly 500 members and there was a poll awhile ago on their website that asked how many people liked, disliked, or hated the living story. 74% hated. 17% disliked. 9% liked.
I’m going to have to disagree with your assessment of how well the material is liked. On the server I play on I’m seing more people than I’ve seen in months. Whether you like it or not, the latest chapter is a success. Lions Arch is always queued, the invasion map is always queued, and business is picking up in the pavilion again. There are a lot of people playing these days.
This many people wouldn’t be playing if they didn’t like the game. Therefore, I disagree with your position that 80% of people don’t like it. Besides, your source doesn’t reflect the population of GW2 as a whole.
I really think guys just learn to deal with it. Women have been through it for decades and longer. We had to deal with it, why can’t you?
Is that what you consider equality?
Don’t forget Vorpp, he looks like a candidate for Destiny’s Edge 2.0.
Patch has been out for two days. Give it time padawan.
Given other patches haven’t really updated anything other than bug fixes between the fortnightly updates, I don’t see this going anywhere else.
As Scarlet is a “personal nemesis” I reckon she’ll be popping up here and there for years to come. One of those people you “just can’t pin down” (except y’know, when you kill her over and over in events).
I was expecting far more of a conclusion than we got, and I’m feeling a bit disappointed.
I’ve yet to be in an event where Scarlet is killed. Just before death, she goes invulnerable and portals out. Apparently, she knows a lot about portals. I still think she was at the Thaumanova reactor when it blew up.
However . . .
What should be done is some way of finding things out without getting it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Other people, clues, journals . . . sure, they might not be entirely accurate (“She graduated from all three colleges! No way was that a clerical error or a database hack.”) . . .
Agreed, and from the coy comments from Dev Stein above, I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll see something along those lines. We’ll just see how well they execute :-).
She loudly announces the fact that she has bombs in Divinity’s Reach during her attack. A smart terrorist wouldn’t say that.
You’ve never heard of a call-in bomb threat? Announcing you have the capability for destruction is a time-honored terror tactic. Regardless of to what degree the actual bombs (if any) succeed is usually secondary to the main goal that you made someone do what you want them to do. Namely, react to you.
Quite obviously if she wanted to destroy Divinity’s Reach, she’s quite capable. The entire watchknight militia could have been activated without a peep, coupled with hidden bombs, and underground destruction from Molten Alliance. The entire city could have been reduced to a charnel house in a day. It wasn’t, thus that isn’t her immediate goal. What that goal is remains to be seen, and as noted, we’ll see how ANet executes on the rest of the story.
I have heard of bomb threats, but if you want to maximize casualties, I don’t think one would state their intentions so blatantly.
Unless you just want to create a diversion to keep people busy while your real plan goes into action.
Asurans have been known to claim other’s peoples work as theirs. I wouldn’t accept the infinity ball revelations as truth until verified.
As a side note.. you do realize you can only get the completion reward once a day, right?
With that said and I was doing the map invasion for the second time that day, I would rather farm champs for loot than work towards the completion and get nothing. Just putting that opinion out there.
You can get up to 13 a day technically. It’s once a day per map. So the first time you do Frostgorge, you get the award, the second time you don’t. However, if you wing on over to Bloodtide Coast, you can get the award for that.
There is a saying in moosh kama kama land…
Fifteen and five is twelve.
Solve that riddle and you will know why she is all over the world.
She does her math in Base 18?
I’ve noticed the events tend to start at the beginning of each hour, when it gets close to the top of the hour go to DR and watch the meta for the update and port immediately. I’ve never ported into an overflow not running the event by using this method. I’ve also never been in a failed event, but that depends on the group you’ve gotten in with.
This has been my experience also.
don’t know. you’d THINK someone would have mentioned that there was this one single sylvari in the thaumanova krewe if she was there. i mean, she’d stand out like a sore thumb.
it’s one thing to never have heard of this prodigy student that’s, oddly enough, not even asura. it’s another thing to have the entire thaumanova krewe (well, those that survived) forget to mention that they had a sylvari krewemate, especially considering how it seems like the other asuras are offended by her intelligence. they’d pin the blame on her in a heartbeat if she was one of the workers.
You make some good points here. I can see her being blamed for the explosion and a sylvari would stick out like a sore thumb. However, so would a sylvari that masters all three colleges and this is the first time we’ve heard. It would explain a lot about her though.
Also, if you had mastered all three colleges, where would you most want to be?
To me though the main problem with this idea is that if she was present at the explosion, I would think that she would be rather angry at the Asurans. So far her anger seems directed at everyone else.

I can only imagine what Overflow’s aunt is like.
Could Scarlet be a by product of the thaumanova reactor explosion? It wouldn’t be a stretch for her to have been there at the time. It would explain her link to the steam creatures. It could also explain her portals and her apparent mental state.
One Sylvari =/= All.
Not to mention she is also from an alternate universe. Likely one where sylvari are smart. ;p
She’s not from an alternate dimension. She was trained by the asurans. Vorpp knows of her.
Aren’t gauntlet tickets soul bound?
This guy must work for Anet because she’s one of the most annoying characters yet and this event is horrible so far.
But for some reason, an incredible amount of people are playing the events. I would say the character is a success.
Don’t forget, briskets taste best when smoked over sylvari.
At the very least they should do it the GW1 way again: do not force people out of the game when a new build is released, it gets downloaded next time you restart the game.
This lets everyone finish what they are doing and doesn’t interrupt major events, especially freshly introduced events. It’s flat-out bad form to force people out of content that isn’t even a day old yet.
GW1 ran instanced events. It’s not the same in GW2.
I thought the Gauntlet was open another 2 weeks. You just have to get Vorpp to open the doors.
You got a Sylvari that needs killin’? Time to smoke some brisket.
The Branded Devourer isn’t too difficult to kill, actually. All you need to do is kite it in a circle with a ranged weapon, since it likes staying at a distance and hurling rocks at you, which you can easily outrun with a 25% speed boost, or just dodge out of the way. The most annoying thing is when nearby monsters spawn and attack you (although the Devourer usually one-shots them with its AoE attack soon after).
If I remember right, this guy is real easy to melee. He’s only seems to be able to attack ranged targets. Get underneath him and it get super easy.
3) Tons of people still play, even after almost a year, because the game (despite its shortcomings) is actually pretty good and enjoyable.
It is a good and enjoyable game for primarily people who aren’t part of the original GW1 fanbase. (that is a red flag)
2) I know a good majority of people who are making those “busy servers” busy merely because there is nothing better out and they are waiting for that next game.
I never quite understand comments like these.
Do people really HAVE to keep playing because there is nothing else out there? Isn’t that quite silly?
If I start playing a game and find that I don’t like it, I won’t force myself to play it until the next game comes out, I’ll simply uninstall the game and do something else.It is silly, but people do it.
Anecdotally, I played GW1 for 5 years and I love GW2. Do you have any solid numbers to back up your claim that as a group GW1 fans don’t like GW2? I bet that you don’t.
Snaff’s not dead, he’s just AFK, BRB.
In the immortal words of Austin Powers, “She’s a man baby!”
Asura infinity ball personal store tells you exactly were the steam creatures came from.
That because we all know that evil maniacs never lie.
I’m intrigued by this, but one question springs to mind:
We’ve also noted many non-humans among the Aetherblade attackers…charr, norn, even an asura or two in their hideout in Gendarran Fields.
Would the White Mantle be willing to work with these other races (other than the Unseen, of course)?
You pose a good question. I would think the White Mantle would be Xenophobic, but they don’t have to be. However, I can only recall human bandits. Does anyone know of any non-human bandits?
No, but I don’t see a reason for the white mantle to be xenophobic, as long as you believe in the Unseen Ones.
Well, the White Mantle didn’t like charr much for a while. Other races may be seen as a threat to kryta. I can’t recall any non human in the ranks of the white mantle or the bandits.
Has it ever occured to anyone that the maniac that comes through the portal trying to kill you while claiming to be the grand high poobah of the universe and creator of the steam creatures, may in fact be lying?
Not all non-nightmare sylvari are goody good two shoes, just look at Canach. The dream doesn’t control the sylvari, so nothing stops one from going power mad, crazy or Disney villain.
But there are reasons behind his actions. He’s sort of an unwitting villian. Scarlet, on the other had, seems to have an all out crush against Jenna and Divinity’s reach. She’s also had time to organize and gather resources. That’s an awful lot to accomplish even for a first born.
Also, Sylvari seem rather aloof to the affairs of others. Not really goody two shoes, for the most part they just don’t care if it doesn’t threaten them. Dragon’s threaten them, so they care.
Now I understand.
We’ll get more sci-fi things. Why? ANet said that if they’ll create new class, it will be Soldier class. Any soldier class without guardian and warrior weapon? YES!

Vehicles? Helicopters? From nowhere? They have to introduce it with living story.
Did you read the disclaimer at the top of your link?
I’m intrigued by this, but one question springs to mind:

I would think that if Livia was still hunting White Mantle, then the White Mantle wouldn’t be so open with their insignia at bandit camps. Her lack of a presence in the game seems to be an indicator that at best she has gone independent, at worst she may have gone rogue. Then again, she could just be dead.
If Livia is still alive, why isn’t she actively hunting down and killing White Mantle bandits? They were always here enemies and I would think by now, being under the influence of the Scepter of Orr, she would be in full scale vengence on my enemies mode.
We no of one sylvari that isn’t from the pale tree. One that is apparently far away. If she isn’t from the pale tree, why would she travel all this way just to be mad at Jenna? I don’t think Scarlet is Sylvari. What is the possibility that Scarlett is associated with the Jungle Dragon?
I don’t understand why a sylvari would go to all this trouble. A charr, asura, or human I could understand, but not a sylvari. It doesn’t seem to jive with lore. Why isn’t she part of the nightmare court, and if she is part of the nightmare court, why would she care about Jenna and Divinity’s reach. Why would any sylvari care about Jenna and Divinity’s Reach?
A spoiler warning would have been nice.
This has been my opinion since about the 2nd Living Story update.
Enough with this stupid, insignificant side story crap.
Give us Elder Dragon content or GTFO Anet. I bought this game to kill dragons. Not to play politics and help emo norns/anime charr.
It’s too soon for any more Elder Dragons. It needs at least another year. IF you pulled out a dragon per year, then in five years you would have nothing left.
A little older? O i am sorry i am older than most people that play this game. I just speak my mind unlike the drones that play this game.
Are you a betting man Mr. Zeus? How much would you like to bet that I’m older than you? I also have spent time in the military. If you cursed at me in the game I’d report you so fast your head would explode. I’m not a drone, please refrain from implying that I am.
Didn’t people see the concept art that’s been out for years? Anet was very clear about the direction that this game was going to take with technology, they didn’t lie. If you don’t like this direction, then you have only yourself to blame.
Just drop the champs to vets. Problem solved.
They didn’t really tell us much. Just that there is going to be a speech (most likely an instance) and a surprise (which could range anywhere from a new dragon hunt, a new mini dungeon, finally breaking the sea blockade of Zhiatan and going to Cantha, or opening the door to the Elonia desert, or we all get a cupcake)
It seems too soon for a new dragon hunt. If they gave us a new dragon every year, then after 5 years, it would be done.
Hold on, I thought people were complaining because the 2 week updates were too much, too soon. Now people are complaining because this update isn’t big enough. I wouldn’t blame Anet if they didn’t pay attention to this forum.
There are a lot of people talking about the living story. It’s creating a lot of buzz. It’s not just a good idea, it’s a great idea.
About this..
I haven’t been on a lot n the past couple days, so I don’t know the current state of the zerg trains, and I have yet to participate in a CS train.
Personally, I’ve always been against abusing people who legitimately want to complete events that peeps are holding up for the sake of farming, if people get too abusive, I’d just log off, because it would leave a bad taste in my mouth.
On the other hand, there are many types of people in zergs, some are the abusive kind, some are just trying to relax, and hopefully get lucky and find a cool looking skin. In FG, none of the champs in the rotation are reliant on holding up events, so I have no experience with that, but occasionally there would be people who would specifically target the champs in the rotation, and kill them out of order on purpose, when normally they would have no interest in said champion. (it was obvious what they were doing, because they would eventually start making snarky remarks in map chat)
Maybe they are just doing it for the lulz, or because some people in the zerg had hurled abuse at them, but to me, and some others in the zerg, they appear to be just as kittenish as those people who fly into a rage all because a passerby killed a champ.
This. You have people that love to troll on purpose and annoy others and then complain that ‘’omg why are they so mad?I’m allowed to do w/e I want!‘’. You want to kill champs? that’s fine, you do it in order just like us, not decide that hey I want to solo this guy. The zergs focus very few maps while every single map in game has champs. Acting like that is literally asking to get cursed/insulted.
Curse/insult me and you will be reported. It’s now time for Anet to decide who they want to play their game.
Keep watching the skies.
Well, that was ominous.
Ominous winds are blowing…
Sorry about that. I’ll open the window.
Assuming that Divinity’s Reach will become a big battleground, how will new players deal with all this? If they’re just trying to go about their own business, will they suddenly find themselves getting attacked by randomly spawning Aetherblades?
New players are already being attacked by randomly spawning Aetherblades in Queensdale. In DR, it would probably be handled in instances. I don’t see new players being a problem here.
There are a lot of horrible guilds out there. You can go out and earn 1000 influence and no one will as much as say boo to you. Then they wonder why no one wants to be in their guild. Too many people think they can ignore their members once they join.
I wonder what would happen if ANet did something sneaky and starting adding small events to places like the Brisbane Wildlands. Make no announcements, just with each update add a small event to a chain that eventually climaxes into it’s own big event. what would happen and how long would it take people to notice?
Evon lost because he has bad breath. No one wants a guy with bad breath to be in charge.
I am having a total blast with this content. I enjoy the fact that there is new content every two weeks. It keeps the experience from going stale. Are the updates perfect, no. Do I enjoy all of them, no. But it’s nice to have something to look forward to. This update has been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed the arena and chasing of the sky pirates. I haven’t enjoyed the gauntlet though. I suck at it.
‘The Quiet Skies’ , maybe? You know, like a ‘calm before the storm’ type of thing.
